Adella is an extremely smart and calculating woman; some would say she is cold and unfeeling, and they would be correct in their assumption. Adella was born a kind and innocent person but as a vampire lost her heart and much of her natural compassion. She does feel remorse for what she does, and sometimes regrets what she has become, but ultimately feels that she will never be able to return to her previous human state. Adella is rather reserved and subdued in her personality, but is also very intelligent. Her strengths lie in combat and survival. As a quick learner, Adella possesses the intelligence necessary to comprehend any given situation and utilize the resources available to her. Adella may appear sullen and reserved, but with enough time and encouragement, she will ultimately express her true feelings. Although one would not know it looking at her, she is cunning, resourceful, and hard-working. Adella is incredibly loyal to those she trusts. She is known for her strong sense of justice, and she is also an avid reader of literature and folklore outside of her vampire duties. While Adella is an adventurer at heart, she always looks forward to taking new adventures, researching new locations, and getting to know new cultures. When she's not on the hunt for adventures, Adella is usually found studying, researching, or occasionally having a short break between the adventure.

Previously a member of a coven in Egypt, Adella gained entrance shortly after her death in Paris, France. Her master is an unknown vampire. Prior to her vampiric life, Adella grew up in a small rural village in the South of France. Moving to Paris to further her career in performance, she was engaged to her childhood sweetheart named Lorenzo Small in the early 1940s, during the Second World War. Lorenzo worked as a car dealer for a local dealership and lived a relatively quiet and happy life. Along with Lorenzo was Lorenzo's mother, Elizabeth Small who was just like a mother to Adella, and Adella always looked up to her for she did not have a meaningful relationship with her own mother. Adella was an aspiring playwright and actress; she loved to see Shakespearean tragedies and marvel at the costumes on stage. Though she wasn't a successful actress and only acquired minor theater roles, she enjoyed writing plays and performing them in the forest and later in life, to her fiance. Lorenzo and Adella were both fairly young, and their love strong. However, Adella always had a strong leaning toward women. The couple almost wed, but certain events that took place prevented their marriage from coming to fruition. Returning from a walk in the city one evening, Lorenzo was the victim of a brutal attack. The city had been experiencing a large number of strange and unexplained murders; by the time Adella returned, Lorenzo had been drained of blood. Rushing to his side, Adella was horrified to find Lorenzo's body. Frantic, she searched the area, hoping to find the murderer of her fiancé. She was not aware that the horrible creature who had attacked her fiancé was hidden in the shadows; Adella only noticed the creature as it moved closer. She remembered the moment when the beast stood inches from her face; she remembered its thick, matted hair and sharp, red eyes. Romantically, she was overcome by a feeling of childhood wonder as she looked into those devilish eyes, and they left her with an impression that would not easily be forgotten. Unbeknownst to anyone, including herself, Adella had been what the creature was looking for all along; what that was, she was not sure. Perhaps it was beauty, or her heart, or her purity that he sought. Whatever it was, she was not only the object of the creature's attention but the last of his victims.

The creature did not kill Adella, and she would have much rather he had for her fate , as it turned out, was even more terrifying than death. She had heard stories of bloodthirsty monsters who would kidnap and eat young women, of men who would howl at the moon until they went mad and killed. Darkness enveloped Adella's comfortable existence like a veil. Her memory of that night was as vague as the moment they happened, but she most certainly remembered the feeling. She felt as though her body was the same, her heart still beating, her breaths quick and frantic with dread. Everything was the same, except her mind. Her mind was a haze, clouded with thoughts of the beast and its murkiness, together with sharp, fearful images. No words could describe the sheer power of the fear into which she felt herself being pulled, and she had no understanding of what she was experiencing. For a brief moment, she kept her eyes open to find the creature staring back at her, and then the light was gone. Alone and in search of a blood source, she met another vampire a vampire of which would later be revealed as the leader of her Coven. Loyal and determined, Adella sought to gain entrance into the Egyptian Coven. She proved to be a gifted fighter and became a figure of great devotion among her fellow Coven members. Adella quickly adapted to her new life and found a way to keep her mind occupied. Memories of her past, though painful, did not emerge as the start of her new life blossomed. Adella, being a rarity among her species, possesses the gift of mind control. She has used this skill to both destroy those who threatened her clan, and to ensnare human prey; such a gift is likely why Adella is such a formidable opponent. While she uses her gift for duties, she also uses it for amusement from time to time.

Adella has since departed from her Coven in order to forge her own path.

A hungry vampire was never a pretty spectacle; and as Adella caught sight of her reflection in withering pond that afternoon, she saw not only the ravages of time but the unmistakable signs of an exceedingly rotten nature. Her skin had acquired an unhealthy yellowish tinge; there were puckered wrinkles at the corners of her eyes and mouth, and her hair, though still thickly black, seemed less lustrous than usual. She needed to find something to eat - and quickly. The growing moon would soon be up, and then she must seek out some living prey if she wished to survive another night on Earth.

Suddenly, the sound of laughter came floating down from the hillside; a mingling of voices with which that implied a large party - possibly a group of young people enjoying an excursion by the dying sunlight. The young vampire's spirts rose, for there was a strong possibility that one or more might prove attractive enough to satisfy her hunger. She stood up from her crouching position by the water's edge, and made ready to descend the slope. It was a relatively small town - would a couple of frat boys or sorority girls even make much of a difference to the dull lives of those who lived here? Surely a quick bite wouldn't do them any harm. With a smile of anticipation, she started down toward the hill, her slender legs moving swiftly over the leaf-strewn ground. It was a pleasant day. A cool breeze rustled through the leaves overhead, and the last of the sunshine bathed everything in a soft golden glow. It wasn't long until she discovered the little group of laughing youths, standing about a ragged old tree near the foot of the hill. No older than herself, they were obviously enjoying themselves immensely. One of them held a guitar, while two others laughed and jested around him. A group of young women huddled close together nearby, their laughter echoing pleasantly back from the steep hillside above. A redheaded girl whose face was rather sweetly contorted in a series of uncontrollable giggles, held hands with a dark-haired man, who was dressed in a khaki shirt and shorts. He leaned down to whisper something in her ear; perhaps telling her some joke he thought was funny, or making some erotic suggestion. The redhead's laugh became even more frantic, and she shook her head vigorously; trying vainly to suppress it. There was nothing so delightful to the vampire than such unbridled mirth, especially when expressed by young, healthy creatures like these. They looked happy, and free from worry. It would be a shame for anything to happen to disturb them.

The vampire moved forward, her steps silent upon the grassy slope. "You're not from around here," came the first remark, uttered by a short-haired woman smoking a cigarette. An odd way to start a conversation, thought the vampire, but what did it matter? She was hungry, and this was as good a place as any to strike her meal.

"No," replied the vampire, her voice low and musical; as pleasing as the tune of a well-played stringed instrument. "I'm visiting from out of town." The lie came easily, for vampires are experts at inventing plausible lies.

The woman raised a skeptical eyebrow and glanced at the others. "Your clothes look expensive, though. Who'd you say you're visiting?"

Adella smiled prettily and shrugged. "What does it matter? I'm only passing through. Now, if you don't mind..." The vampire took a step closer to the woman, and lowered her voice. "... perhaps we should leave this poor old tree and go someplace where we can talk more privately. Don't you think?" There was no reply, and the vampire continued smiling. She had been around long enough to know when to make her move. The woman's face was replaced by an expression of startled surprise; hynpotized lips parted, an involuntary gasp escaped her lungs. For a moment, she stood staring blankly, her astonishment gradually giving way to a look of placid contentment. Then, her right hand reached up to touch the vampire's cheek. Adella's smile widened, and she placed her own left hand gently against the woman's shoulder and led her away into the trees.

It was late, and all but the emergency lights were off at the dusty old boxing gym where Simone found her peace. Loud music pumped through her headphones, the thumping bass pushing her to hit faster, harder, until sweat dripped into her eyes and her chest heaved with exertion. The night was calling – wait, no, that wasn’t the night, that was Lauren.

Catching the punching bag with a grunt, Simone tapped her phone from its place strapped on her forearm.

“Hey, Lauren,” she answered, slightly breathless. “What’s up?”

“Sim,” Lauren replied in a clipped, serious tone that had Simone straightening with a small frown. “We may have a situation here.”

“Where are you?”

Already she was moving, snagging a towel from her backpack and wiping the sweat from her body.

“We’re out by the old tree, the one that got hit by lightning a few years ago.”
“I know the one.”

Simone tossed her workout gear into a locker, quickly unwrapping her hands. She rarely heard Lauren scared, but she could sense the fear under the younger girl’s words. Anger reared its head inside her: someone or something was threatening a member of her pack, and that was something for which she would not stand.

“Sim,” Lauren said quietly, a small shake to her voice. “I think there’s a vampire hunting us.”
For a full second, Simone froze. Then the anger flared into rage.

Simone was the member of a close-knit pack who had settled this college town in the Northeastern US generations ago. However, they were pushed out of the town, forced into the rundown, forgotten outskirts when a group of vampires decided to attend college in their town. Since then, a small stream of vampires had found their way to Simone’s home, keeping them away from the college and downtown area.
Simone would not let a vampire threaten her friends in their own territory.

“I’m on my way,” she said, ending the call.

Thankful that she was already wearing skin tight clothing that would stay with her after she shifted, she stepped out of the boxing gym. The moon wasn’t up quite yet, but it would be soon. Not wanting to waste any time, she began running.

The tree Lauren had mentioned was a mile and a half from Simone’s gym, and her hours of training had worn her out, so her progress was slow at first. Then, like the first breath of air after swimming underwater, the moon rose.

Simone felt her strength returning, and as the first rays of silver light shot across the valley, she shifted into a massive brown wolf.

The distance disappeared beneath her paws, and before long she was skidding to a stop in the shadows just out of view of the group of young people by the tree.

Tensing against the pain, Simone shifted back into her human form. It felt for a moment like an invisible fist clenched around her organs, compressing them back into a body she was never fully happy in. Panting, she took a moment to catch her breath and make sure she was still dressed in her tight sports bra and biker shorts before stepping into view.

Lauren spotted her instantly, and hurried over, dragging Kyle behind her. Simone couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Kyle was a newer werewolf and Lauren’s latest beau. Where Lauren was serious and calm, Kyle was jumping at every shadow, and almost yelped when he spotted Simone in the shadows.

Giving the boy an unimpressed look, Simone turned to her redheaded friend.

“I didn’t see much,” Lauren said, Kyle shifting uncomfortably beside her. “Just a figure out of the corner of my eye, then her back as she led Jez away. Jez looked totally out of it, talking to her.”

A growl threatened deep in Simone’s throat. Jez was a bit of a loner, but she was Lauren’s friend, and she was human. She stood no chance against a vampire.

“Which way did they go?” she asked. Lauren pointed into the woods, and Simone nodded.
“Lauren, with me. Kyle, text the group, tell them there’s a vampire situation by the old tree. Keep it to the crew only, no elders.”
Her voice dropped dangerously.
“We’ll handle this ourselves.”
Clearly having no problem with staying behind, Kyle fumbled for his phone as Simone and Lauren melted into the shadows.

Lauren pouted as they walked.
“I’m going to ruin these jeans,” she said. There was too much fabric, and they wouldn’t survive her shift.
“Then take them off,” Simone offered, matter-of-factly.
“Trying to get me naked, Simone Tyler?” Lauren teased, but she shimmied out of her jeans and stripped off her shirt for good measure.
“Just remember you’re in your skivvies when you shift back,” Simone laughed. The girls then shifted into wolf form. Laura was a reddish brown wolf, slightly smaller than Simone but with longer legs, capable of great speed.

As soon as she shifted, all of Simone’s senses heightened. The moonlight became bright as midday, and trails of scents wove throughout the forest.
It took a moment to sort through the sensory input, but then Simone found the trail she was looking for: nicotine.
Jerking her head, Simone signaled for Lauren to follow. The two took off after Jaz and the vampire, loping quietly across the forest floor. They were getting close when another scent joined the first, overpowering and stinging. Blood.

Without even exchanging a look, the two picked up the pace. Stealth was forgotten in favor of speed. If the vampire heard them coming it might get scared off, not an ideal situation, but worth it if it saved Jaz’s life.

Moving as one, Simone and Lauren crashed through the underbrush and into a clearing flooded with moonlight. In the center was Jaz, eyes fluttering weakly as the vampire fed on her. Simone zeroed in on the trickle of blood running down Jaz’s neck and saw red. Baring her teeth in warning, she shifted back to human form and strode forward, dark eyes flashing in anger. Her fists clenched instinctively, ready for a fight.
“Get away from her, vampire,” she ordered lowly as Lauren paced behind her in wolf form.

"You only hurt them more when you lead them into a false sense of security," her old master had warned her once, "You kill, yes, but you don't pretend to be doing them any kindness. Why should they believe in your goodness when you deceive them so blatantly?"

She supposed his words had been right, thought she was never the kind of woman to bother to wonder whether she was being right or wrong. Perhaps when she was a human, yes, she would stop to consider such things. But since she had become a vampire, it seemed she had become far less concerned with the advice of others. She did not like to kill, but she liked it even less to be hungry. She had tried to resist the urge to feed on humans, but for how long could a creature whose entire existence revolved around the art of killing keep from indulging its nature? It was like trying to fight off a fever, or a yearning for sleep. In addition, what joy was there in a classic bite to the neck? Why not drag out the pleasure, prolong the ecstasy? For a moment, to feel loved and cherished... then death. So the vampire had learned to let herself indulge in the pleasures of the flesh, just as she indulged in the pleasures of the mind.

She glanced over her shoulder at the woman who had fallen victim to her charms. Her face was quite lovely, she saw, and her body was strong, well-shaped. Adella liked her quick intelligence, too. "Jez," she drew out the name of the woman that she had chosen, "did you not know that following a stranger down a deserted path is a very bad idea?" the curly haired vampire smirked, her voice a soft purr in the night. The other woman merely nodded, her expression unreadable. She stopped when they reached a small grove of trees, and turned to face Jez. "I want to kiss you, Jez," said the vampire softly.

For a moment, Jez looked bewildered, but her face cleared instantly as she understood what the vampire wanted. "If you insist," she replied, and leaned toward the vampire; her lips parting. Adella's head descended, her mouth opening wider as she pressed against Jez's sweet, yielding mouth. A shiver passed through the other woman, and her hands tightened on the vampire's shoulders. Adella felt the warmth of the other woman's breath against her fangs, smelled the scent of her blood, and it was almost too much for her to bear. She let her tongue slip between those inviting lips, and tasted something she had tasted many times before: love. Only for a moment. The fleeting, lukewarm sensation of ecstasy passed swiftly, and Adella's hunger returned. She closed her eyes, feeling the bite begin, the warm flow of blood, the thrill of the kill. She heard a faint scream, and opened her eyes again.

The unpleasant interruption of ascending footsteps made the vampire start; she rose gracefully from the ground, and surveyed the scene. The sky was dark, and the moon had risen. Adella wiped her mouth, and ran her tongue across her lips. Something about the situation disturbed her; a premonition of danger. Then suddenly, two wolves burst from the trees on either side of her, and bounded straight at her. Adella whirled, scaling the nearest tree, as the pair dashed past. They were fast, but the vampire was faster still. The brown wolf then suddenly shifted, and with a burst of fur a human woman erupted. "Get away from her, vampire," came the low, menacing voice.

Adella let out a hiss of annoyance as she swung down the trunk. She opened her mouth wide, revealing her fangs. "What? Your little friend?" a soft innocence suddenly suffused the vampire's voice, "Oh... that? Why, I didn't do anything. I only took a small bite."
