Based upon the movie VVitch and the series Salem, and of course based on my looove of witches~ <3
I am a sucker for dark fanatasy folktale-esque horror~ The Witch has to be one of my favorite horror movies, and Salem with its use of old fairytales/Folklore on witches as well as new spins inspired me greatly as you can see~ I want this rp to have that sort of dark fantasy horror vibe to it.

The setting of this world is similar to our own, think of it as a sort of alternative universe. The countries are similar to the ones we have in reality with some different spins to them. The setting is also set sometime during the late 1600s.

Sorcerer, Enchantress, Warlock, devil-worshipper, devil's whore.

Witch.

Being the target of persecution throughout the globe, witches hide in secrecy in fear of their execution or worse. A light of hope shines in the distance, across the seas, settled just beyond the horizon. A new world, a new land. A young and recently discovered country, Shadowmoore, whose inhabitants are people from around the globe in search of new beginnings and opportunity. They managed only to colonize 100 acres of land in the past 45 years, dotting it mostly with villages and some towns. Shadowmoore has much to offer, perhaps more so in the witches favor. After all, why bother in trying to find paradise, when you can make your own?

General Plot

A small village, Appleglenn, had been dealing with a rather unusual problem. Several young girls, between the ages of 10 and 13 have all claimed to be cursed by a witch. They would convulse, vomit and screaming in pain, the village was terrified and it wasn't long when accusing fingers began to point. In the end, a young boy, no older than 9 years was found guilty of witchcraft and thus was hanged. Word spreads around Shadowmoore, some people seeing it as justified, others more skeptical, some being down right hysterical claiming that there needs to a witch hunt.

The leader of a coven of witches, known as Sanguinemalam, who reside within the oldest town of Shadowmoore, Willowdale, suggests an idea to her fellow witches. "What if our people, held a country of our own?" And thus creates a plan that will hopefully bring all witches together, all across Shadowmoore, the forests beyond and even across the world to reach this one goal.

A being either male, female or somewhere in between who is capable of magical or a supernatural abilities. Many witches hold the same or similar abilities, some carry a single unique ability.

Flight: Witches can fly only with the assistance of a broom stick, unless they can take the form of an animal with wings or another form that can fly without the assistance of a broom or wings.

Elementals: Ability to control fire, wind, and water.

Enchant: Incantations that can be used upon items or living things to aid them.

Curse: Incantation that can be used upon items or living things to cause harm.

Psychokinesis: The ability to use the mind or use simple body gestures to move objects or beings.

Potions: Liquids concocted by witches for multiple purposes, from healing to poisons, to charm or to disgust and much more.

Shape shift: The ability to transform into one animal. For the umber, they have three forms in general. One being their human disguise, second their true demon form, the other being a mundane earthly animal.

Possession: The ability to possess an object or being.

Animal control: The ability speak, control and see through the eyes of animals.

Plant control: The ability to manipulate and control plants.

Hair control: The ability to use one's hair as a weapon or tool.

Dream walker: The ability to astral project into another's dreams or nightmares, as well as bring others along to said dreams.

Seer: Can see or foretell the future via symbolic premonitions. The visions Seerers receive are not clear, as they are made up of symbolic flashes of images, the future can only be hinted at in these visions and can only be interpreted.

Shadow walker: The ability to travel and hide among the shadows of living creatures or anything that is to represent living beings (such as dolls, stuffed animals or taxidermy animals)

Necromancer: The ability to raise and control the dead.

Light magic: The ability to manipulate light energy turning it into a weapon (such as a knife, sword, staff, whip or projectile)

Age Deceiver: The ability to take on the appearance of an elderly person or child.

Doll walker: Ability to possess or take the form of a human doll.

Types of Witches

Umber Witch: Also referred to as Elder Witches, Umbras or True Witches. Umber Witches are demons who take on a human guise and roam the earth, they were the first witches to inhabit the earth and are respected among witch kind. It is because of the Umber Witches that Sanguines and Cradles exist. Many umbers were born in the underworld, finding a small opening that allowed them to leave and walk the earth among men. However, it is not unheard of having an Umber being born on earth. Umber witches are able to shift from their human disguise into their true bestial form, whose appearance varies based the individual. Some umbers' bestial form look beastly, some humanoid, others may even hold an 'angelic' look to them.

Sanguine/Blood Witch: A witch who was born human, but learned the art of witchcraft. These are the most common of witches.

Cradle Witch: A witch who is born from witch parents. They too are seen as 'high bloods' among witch kind as they are born with magic, though not nearly as 'high' as that of an umber. Witches can only be deemed as a Cradles if they have a Sanguine Witch parent or parents, or one Sanguine and one Umber parent.

Important Note on Witches: Witches become more powerful in the passing years of using their magical abilities. Umber Witches, though viewed to be the 'originals' of witchfolk, this does not mean they are the most powerful by default. An older Sanguine can surpass an younger Umber, simply based on the fact the older hypothetical Sanguine is more experienced in years in the magical arts. Umber are given high respect because of the blood that ties them to being the first witches and assist in spreading and teaching their supernatural and magical skills.

Witches and their Offspring: Humans and Witches (of any type) can produce fertile offspring, however the child will either be born human or a Cradle Witch. If a pair of witches copulate and produce a child or children, the offspring will be born as a wither a Cradle Witch or an Umber Witch.

Human + Any Witch Type = Human or Cradle Witch
Umber + Umber = Umber Witch
Cradle + Cradle = Cradle Witch
Cradle + Umber = Cradle Witch
Sanguine + Sanguine = Cradle Witch or Human
Sanguine + Umber = Cradle Witch or Human
Sanguine + Cradle = Cradle Witch or Human

Weakness of Witches

Witches heal faster than the typical human and based upon how old a witch is as well as what kind of witch, can depend upon how powerful they are and how quickly they heal. However, even with these great powers, witches are still susceptible to being gravely injured or weakened.

Weakness of the Umbers: Holy items, especially if it is related to the Lumen faith, can burn an Umber if it touches their skin, due to their demonic nature. If it makes contact with their skin for too long it can catch on fire.

Weakness of the Sanguines: Ingesting the hair of a virgin maiden, can make them severely ill and if not removed from the body, can kill within a day or two.

Weakness of the Cradles: Pricking the finger of a white rose's thorn as it can put them in a deep slumber, they can only awaken, from the sting of a queen bee.

General Weaknesses that Apply to All Witches:
-Fire: being burned alive, such as burning at the stake as example.
-Water: being drowned.
-Noose: being hanged.

History of Witches:

Countless centuries ago, when man still lived in caves and uncivilized, demons who managed to find an opening from their underworld home to the earthly realm roamed the land. They held magical abilities and hid themselves among humans as shawmen, speakers of spirits, sooth sayers and medicine men. Humans awed and feared these demons, giving them many names, but the most common was the title of Witch. The humans that marveled at these powerful beings made themselves apprentices and the demons their mentors, in the magical arts. Thus the common witch, also known as Sanguines, were born and after the Sanguines the Cradle Witches. As time moved on, those who feared the witches and their abilities grew in numbers, came more and more into power, till many witches found themselves being persecuted of evil doing, whether they were guilty of the crime or not. In the end, the few surviving witches of the world went into hiding.

The Lumen Faith"]

The religion of the Lumen is as old as man itself. It is a faith based upon an entity simply known as The Light or Lumna, a being made up nothing but pure, holy light that wants nothing more than to shine itself upon humanity, bringing hope, morality, and joy to all. The wide spread of the Lumen faith is the main cause of the witches' plight. There are many different sects and interpretations of the lumen faith.

The Light/Lumna: The all powerful (typically genderless) deity made up of divine light, creator and savior of all mankind as well as the creator the earth, paradise and angels. The different sects and various individual interpretation on Lumna can vary, from merciful god who wants nothing more than to spread joy and its gospel, to merciless and wrathful deity who punishes the wicked via torture.

Angels: Holy beings made from Lumna's light, they are messengers to help spread the gospel to man and protectors of men and women's eternal souls.

Paradise: A realm made of light, were all devoted followers of the lumen faith go to when they die.

Inferno: A realm made of darkness, filled with fire and the tormented cries of the tortured souls of the damned. Those how are not devote or who are seen to immoral go here when they die.

Demons: being made of pure darkness who only wish to bring havoc and pain to mankind.
Priests: A person who is the leader of the congregation, in charge of help spreading the gospel. Priest are given the highest respect of the church. Typically, only men take on this role, but in recent years a few women have taken this title as well.

Shadowmoore was discovered by a man, Ericus Nedard Striater, while he and his men were off exploring the world. They set foot on Shadowmoore, exploring its shoreline and forest, finding nothing but rich earth for crops, wide spaces perfect for livestock, and bountiful wild game. At first these men thought they were the first and only men to set foot on this new land, but they were so very wrong. Hidden among the shadows of the forests lay beings known as witches, eyeing them from afar. Some witches in the passing and going of the centuries found this place on broomstick or other means of flight and took refuge here long before Ericus and his men.

They tried scaring off or down right killing some of the men to ward them away from their safe haven, but to no avail, Ericus was a hard headed, albeit determined man. He saw this land as a opportunity for many and his mind was set on making it that way. So he and his surviving men, starting off with 50 on a ship only to leave with 20, set back to their homeland to give the good news of their findings, being sure to leave out the parts of the found witches. Word spread and soon, many ships were set off to the new world. The people began colonizing the land, successfully establishing towns and villages, however, many people are unwilling to explore the land further due to the forest. As many rumors go about the dwelling of 'demons' and 'monsters' in the deepest darkest parts, which is why in only the past 45 years, 100 acres of this wide stretching land have been colonized. The first town ever established within Shadowmoore and the first living area for many people was and is Willowdale, it was fully established 40 years ago.

Shadowmoore: A land filled to the brim with vast forests along with the unknown. Only a small patch of this country has been colonized by people across the world. Said small patch, all 100 acres of it, is well off and thriving.

Villages: Small villages make up most of the homes of the people within the 100 acres of Shadowmoore. Name of villages: (the names of the various villages can be created by other rpers)

Towns: There are only three towns as a whole within the country, the first and oldest being Willowdale, second Wulventale, third being Ashenkeep. All the towns are about the same size, not too large, nor to small, moderately sized, however Willowdale is a tad larger out of the three and is considered to be the center hub of all the towns and villages. Just outside of every town and village lays a graveyard for the people to lay their dead to rest.

Forest: Within the 100 acre patch of discovered land also marks discovered areas of the forest, simply referred to as the Known Forest. However, past the 100 acre mark is the Unknown Forest, is undiscovered land of Shadowmoore. The Known Forest looks like typical wood, ponds, lakes, rivers and creeks along with meadows and flower beds. There are paths made by the townsfolk and villagers to help guide them throughout their 100 acres. These paths connect all the towns and villages, it also is paved through the Known Forest. There is another path as well, much older as it existed long before the colonization of Shadowmoore, it bares white-ish dirt, lined with various marble stones, leading into the Unknown Forest.

Swamp: Deep within the Unknown Forest of Shadowmoore, unknown to humans, lays a sort of marsh-y swampland. Home to gators, cranes, ducks, swans and some witches.

Underworld: A realm hidden deep beneath the earth's surface were demons and other beastly creatures reside.

Views on Witches: Different culture hold different beliefs in witchcrafts and different views of witches. For the most part, the biggest foe to witches would be the Lumen faith itself, as many followers see witches as evil beings, worshippers of devils and such. Many cultures also hold these negative ideas, though some are more tolerant, few even hold witches in respect. Do understand, not everyone believes in witches or magic, but there are old superstitions that make quite a few people a bit on the wary side. With this being said, Shadowmoore's culture in general is very anti-witch.

Views on the Underworld: Many humans, whether they be devout followers of the Lumen faith or not, view the Underworld as a sort of a hell, or place where the damned reside. In reality and unbeknownst to humans, it no such place. True, the Underworld can be a rather intimidating realm, covered in mist and dark forests were creatures of all kind reside, but it is no place designed to torture impure souls.

Gender Roles: Men and women are seen to have certain roles based upon gender, women being viewed to handle domestic affairs, while men being the providers, protectors and leaders of the new country. However, times have been changing in the world, and traditional views are not safe from it. During Shadowmoore's first few years of being built into a new country, women assisted in the building and carrying about duties that were typically done by men. In doing so, some views and feeling have changed on the ideas of men and women, some women slowly getting more and more equal footing in terms of power (becoming business owners or politicians) and some men taking domestic or nurturing roles.

Relationships: Marriage is mostly done for money and high status among the wealthy, commonfolk typically do so out of love or to keep the family name running.

Class: There are no kings nor queens here in Shadowmoore, only dukes, duchess barons and so on are seen as not only the upper class but also the unofficial leaders of Shadowmoore.

Hive/Coven: A group of witches who work or even live together, lead by the head witch.

Head Witch: Leader of a coven/hive.

Second Hand: The second in command of the coven/hive.

Apprentices: Witches who are taught by more experienced members in witchcraft.

Familiars: Beings that are able to shapeshift from a human/humanoid form and a single animal form. They are partners, companions and pets to the witches, assisting them when they are needed. Familiars and witches find each other through natural means. Some familiar start out as mundane animals, only to gain instant higher intelligence upon meeting their destined witch. At this point they will not only be able to speak like a human, but think like one as well, this includes gaining the power to transform into a human disguise. Familiars can also be humans that become shape shifting familiars, however the meeting of a witch and their destined familiar can be a tricky as it means that human will have to become aware of the witches, magic and be accepting. In the end though, the familiar will not have a choice as it is fate for familiar to do as their witch's bidding in the end.

How to Become a Witch: Aside from simply being born into being a witch, there is one other way for witchood. Signing your name in The Book of Flesh. This item looks to be an old leather book, its brown cover worn, tan pages wrinkled and torn at the edges. The Book is about half the length of a horse's skull with quite a bit of weight to it, yet even the smallest of children can still somehow hold and carry it. The Book is as old as time itself, or so it is believed, and within it are countless signed names of human turned witches are written inside. This book is everywhere, yet nowhere all at once, appearing only when it is called by ritual and the calling of the deepest desires to write one's name within it. The ritual to summon the book must be held at night near candle or firelight. A fresh apple must be placed in the center of a symbol in the shape of goat's skull or pentagram, while all participants must disrobe themselves and chant these words. "Ahtha Kanta Morra." The apple with then decay in a puddle of rotten mush, emerging from the putrid liquid will rise the book. Pricking ones finger with the needle sharp quill that lay within the books pages, the signer must write their name in blood. After the signing, the book will close itself before igniting into blue flames, disintegrating till there is nothing left, even then the fire itself will die on its own. Those who have signed their names to become witches in The Book will then be official taught and mentored in the ways of witchcraft.

Night of Salem/Salem's Moon: Once a month when the moon is full, witches, regardless of type and coven, come together within the woods. It is a gathering with a roaring bonfire at its center. The purpose of the gathering is to simply allow witches to be among each other without fear of being prosecuted for being witches. This monthly tradition has been passed on since the beginning of the first witches and has spread across the globe to all witchfolk. On this night it would not be uncommon to witches wander about in the nude or wear revealing attire. It is also not uncommon sexual escapades to occur, however these are done away from gatherings were children are present.

1.) No godmodding/power playing

2.)Have as many charas and npcs as you can handle

3.)Never be afraid to ask questions~ via chat or pm

4.) No Witch hybrids, meaning no witch/human characters, no half umber, half sanguine, half, cradle witches.

5.) If you wish for your witch to have a special power, ask first. And please do understand, if your witch does have one of the special abilities, that means you must give up one of the general abilities. Note: Not all witches must have all the general abilities, but they do not have more abilities than 6.

6.) Want to make a coven? Yay! But understand I don't' want to see covens made up of 7+ witches. In past rps I've been in, I've seen people taking advantage of being able to make their own clans or packs and just running it with 50-100+ npcs just so they were the 'biggest, baddest and strongest'. The maximum amount of witches in a coven is 7 and yes that includes npcs. A large coven past this number will play a large role in the story and will come later.

7.) I don't' want a bunch of humans "discovering" the witches as that can, in the end, cause problems for the general rp storyline, sure somewhere down the line humans will become more aware/believe that witches do exist/live within the towns and villages of Shadowmoore, but till I give the say, there will be only one or two humans who find out about the witches' secrets.

8.)This rp will allow sex/smutty scenes, but these scenes will be placed in spoiler tags. There will be posts I will allow that have a sort of sensual feel to it. Note that sex is not the driving force of this rp, there's more story than smut here.

9.) Always ask before doing anything major that could deeply affect the storyline other characters of the rp. I do enjoy a good plot twist and drama, helps the rp's story continue to be interesting. However if done just out of the blue without consulting anybody particularly the GM can be jarring or even annoying/frustrating as it could interfere with the main plot or other plots that are to be established.

10.) I'm more than open to various myths and folklore associated to witches/other mythical being for this rp. If you know some interesting stuff on witches and would like to add them to your character or even to the rp's world in general don't be afraid to ask or let me know~

11.) Only Witch, human or familiar characters only please. Only one familiar per witch. If making a familiar character, you must make a witch character as well, the witch can be a simple npc. Note: not all witches have familiars but all familiars have witches.

12.) No character is perfect or free of being hurt/killed. With that being said, never be afraid to ask/discuss with other rpers if you plan on harming a character/npc that is not your own (such as if two characters are locked in battle). Its always good to talk it out so others know what to expect and can agree upon how the fight will end.

13.) The (hopefully) Last and Final Rule! This is a Dark Fantasy, Horror, 100% 18+ Mature audience only type rp. Don't like blood? I don't recommend the rp. Don't like smutty sexy sex scenes? I don't recommend this rp. Don't like seeing animals/kids/adults/teens getting hurt? I don't recommend this rp. This rp will have dark elements and some gore in it (not gore galore/gore porn, Less 'SAW' and more so Game of Thrones/Sleepy Hollow/The Witch/Salem series type gore.) I'm all for trigger warnings (hell there's reason why books and movies have ratings yea?) and more than welcoming and encourage those to let others know ahead of time there may be a gore scene. I also highly encourage those who are unsure if a scene is too gory to ask for a second opinion among their fellow rpers.

One extra little note: I consider myself a rather passive roleplayer, however when it comes to rps I've personally made i tend to be more aggressive and pushing the story in a particular direction. That isn't to say that I'm not open to different ideas/opinions with my fellow rpers, I just tend to be the one to announce time skips, the beginning and ending of scenes ect...

Extra Tags Just in case Iwaku doesn't have em ~ : dark fantasy, some gore, horror, murder, animal death, human death, mature themes all around, sex scenes,

If you read all of these rules, say this either as a pm to me or at the beginning or ending of your first post in OOC chat … Bayonetta is Bae

Why all the high detailed long arse rules?

I'm a simple pangolin who only want whats best for the rp and the enjoyment of the rpers and that is:
To have it run smoothly

To follow the basic plot and hitting all the points (with new additions and inputs from the fellow rpers of course~ <3)

And above all NO DRAMA

With that said, I'm sorry to say that in past rps, very few being my own and the other being in other's rps, I have come across so many irking things that just felt like stepping on toes, whether the toe-stepper was aware of this or not. I've laid down such rules I thought were 100% understandable and 1000% certain there is no way people can misunderstand/misinterprate or loop hole around them. Only to be taken back by how a fellow rper would somehow find a loophole around a rule just to be a little bit on the godmody side or behaving like they were the game master when they weren't or doing their damnest to find a way to make their character the "coolest, strongest, most badass" and try to be the center of attention. I try not to be a stickler or a perfectionist, so I would make suggestions or say nothing thinking it it was only me being rubbed the wrong way, big mistake.

And when the offender is politely called out on it, they simply shrug their shoulders and explain why their character isn't doing some questionably borderline godmody behavior (even though it was) which ends in an argument or rubbing people the wrong way (mostly the offender as they don't like being accused of breaking the rules, I mean nobody does right?). Sorry for rambling, it's just that this has happened waaay too many times to the point i went from making small simple rule to damn near paragraphs explaining every nook and craney as to what rpers were and weren't allowed to do within the rp. It only got even more frustrating.

Needless to say, in my years of roleplaying in the end I always think it's best to be 100% transparent and talk about every little nook and cranny about the characters and the where the rp will be going in terms of story.

Number One Rule Will Always Be Ask Questions. No such thing as too many questions or a dumb one. Nothing can run smoothly if there is no communication.

I'm open to rpers who would like to make up their own country and culture where their character's cam from so long as it is written in detail
_________________________

welp this is the gist of it o3o

oh and this~
I was going to make a long list of enchantments, curses and potion types, but in the end decided against it. Instead I think it's best, and save everyone time with reading a long arse list (honestly as if dont I have enough of those already in this rp set up lol) I'm allowing some freedom here. Hint on the some, before making a post with a witch character (be it main or npc) please do ask before doing anything with said character casting some sort of spell or using a potion. Run it by me first and or the other fellow rpers you plan on interacting with. I say this in case any 'accidents' of being unfair or loop holing around the godmodding/powerplaying rule. I don't want to see a witch casting an 'automatic kill/love potion' on another person's character without even discussing it with the rper(s). Kinda would seem unfair yes? It might even have a large impact on the story. So yes, I'm allowing peeps to come up with their own curses/spells and potions, but only if they discuss it with the individual rpers whose character will/may be affected by it.

I don't think I'll be making the rp soon, i wanna do a few more touch ups, just curious if anyone would be interested in a horror/dark fantasy/mixed with fairytale type rp. This is defiantly not a Sabrina the Teenage type story.
