An Interest Check:

> Hello there
Presenting, once again, a Cyberpunk RP.

You will be playing as an Edgerunner, someone who lives the fast paced lifestyle of those looking to make a name for themselves in Night City. Maybe you're a Rockerboy following in the footsteps of Kerry Eurodyne, a Netrunner out to learn all the secrets of the Net, or a Solo who's just looking to have an excuse to blow shit up. As of right now however, you're a low level nobody in Night City. Maybe you like that. If you're still here however... You probably don't. You want to be someone. The first 'act' of the RP will focus on the crew forming, and learning to work together, and then later moving onto other jobs, missions, and assorted antics that may or may not make you some hard earned cash.

Cyberpunk very rarely has any happy endings, and can deal with some heavy topics. That said, to start with, I'm hoping to keep it relatively light hearted, and roll with the vibe players want to continue with for future story lines.

> The Hook
There's no place like Night City, the infamous city state in what was once California. Depending on who you ask, it's a vibrant, exciting city, a unique melting pot of cultures. A cityscape full of opportunities, interesting people, and home to technology once thought impossible. The City of Dreams, home to legends like Morgan Blackhand, Rogue Amendiares, Alt Cunnigham, and Adam Smasher. Of course, there's plenty out there who would disagree.

Some would dismiss it as a overcrowded dystopia ruled by unchecked megacorps, corrupt politicians and unabated gang warfare. Crime rates are sky high, cases of cyber-psychosis are a near every day occurrence, and even ordinary citizens can be driven to extreme measures just to get by. These are the people that voted Night City the worst place to live in both the NUSA and Free States. These are the people first to point out that real NC legends don't usually live long enough to enjoy their success.

But you were one of the dreamers. You headed to Night City with big dreams. Hopes of being that one in 500 million to beat the odds and strike it big as a legendary edgerunner. Ambitions to walk among the rich and powerful as a successful member of the corporate elite. Or maybe you're just trying to outrun your old life and scrape enough eddies together to pay the rent and keep kibble on the table.

And maybe you'll get there one day. Right now? You're holed up in a shitty apartment building in a sprawling mega-building. It's not much, but it could be a lot worse. It's a roof over your head - for now - and the gangs mostly leave you alone... for the most part. Best of all, you've got a message in your inbox from a local fixer who has heard you want to make a couple of eddies.

What could go wrong? Especially as you've yet to find yourself the right circle of friends, a crew to fall back on. Hey, all legends had to start somewhere, right?

I'd consider myself interested. Though i'm curious if the option is/will be available to play a character that was born in Night City.

I'm interested and happen to have a cyberpunk-themed character handy. I've seen the animated Cyberpunk 2077 show on Netflix, but have not played the game.

Hey hey, I'm back from some time away! I'll have a link to a discord server up pretty soon.

Definitely, you're perfectly welcome to play a native of NC if you so wish!

Sweet! The show is a pretty solid introduction to the setting so you should be good! :D

Consider me intrigued. I've played the game and read a bit of the lore, seen a bit of Edgerunners too. I've got two main character concepts swirling around; one's an old soldier from the Fourth Corporate War who went full-borg over the course of the conflict while working for Militech and is now living as a Solo who's just trying to make ends meet (how that works with cyberpsychosis I don't know, maybe he's just high-functioning like Smasher and completely devoid of actual empathy, but not completely batshit insane), and the other is a bit more out there. Namely an AI, playing on the fan theories and in-universe conspiracies behind the blue-eyed people, that's been placed in a humanoid substrate or body.

I'll admit that that latter idea may be a tad more problematic given how OP AI in general can be in this setting since everyone's hooked up to everything, my personal cybersecurity nightmare as someone with an associates degree in computer science, but it is one that I had. Not too sure what their overall arc would be however, as I haven't gotten farther than the initial concept development wise.

Those are two interesting character concepts, but I don't think it's quite the right fit for this RP.

Firstly I'm going to be adapting/streamlining the tabletop version of character creation, which comes with limits on initial Cyberware and stats. I've seen full borgs done... But generally to the deteriment of the rest of their build and in my honest opinion the rest of the team. OOC, this is super expensive high stat equipment. In universe, if you're fired or otherwise leave a corp, they brick the stuff they paid for... Bad news for someone without a meat body.

Secondly, I didn't clarify it before, but full cyberpsychosis is game over. If you hit 0 EMP (Empathy), we can discuss how you want to proceed, but if you want to continue playing, you will need a new character. Low empathy characters will start to experience symptoms of cyberpsychosis, but the mechanics and impacts of that I'm still working out. Smasher is canonically an outlier in his ability to be so chromed up/low humanity and still stay functional.

Thirdly I'm flat out denying non-human characters as player characters. No AIs, bots, or sentient/haunted vendits. Now, if you want to propose something as an NPC or future plot point, that's a different matter, but for now, I'm keeping this off limits.

But hey, I'm open to discussion! Grizzled old vets with shady connections are every bit as welcome (if not more so) as wide eyed kids who've just picked up their first disposable pistol.

All of that is completely understandable (I tend to forget that the corps are that dickish, that and Shaitan exists but he's as much an outlier as Smasher and the rest, one who's been in the game a while too to boot so he's got the connections and resources), although I'm not aware of any wars corporately that would give a vet with potential Militech connections their backstory - and I don't know nearly enough about NUSA lore to trust myself to write a retired vet from that side of things. I could shift and say they were a former member of Max-Tac maybe, have them make use of that skill which lets you fight full-borgs despite being an organic if that's feasible, or something scaled down but similar given their former job.

Really, so long as I can go for them turning to what is effectively mercenary work from a similarly military background, I'm happy. I like characters like David and Silverhand and all, but at the same time I feel most Solos and Edgerunners in general would be former corpos or people who did the kind of work one doesn't talk about in more, shall we say, polite society. Makes sense to put that prior experience to use, just in another line of work.

Thanks for your interest folks! Unfortunately I was relying on having a co-GM, but this person can no longer participate owing to serious illness. As such, I'll be putting this on the back burner (again) until they're better, or until I have the time to try and make this work as a more traditional forum RP. ^^
