Crimson Wing

As Miku exited the washroom she had noticed that the sky had gotten really dark,Then as she neared the table nova was sitting and Sat down ,Noises could be heard from outside as the thunder thumped loud then a Large lightning bolt Ripped across the sky. "whoa what was that all about,we shouldnt be having any storms at this time of year." She turned to nova grining wide as her curious nature was showing "its odd i dont think that this is natural somthings wrong like we had suspected Nova." Her tail swayed back and fourth faster as her looks out side at the sky more. "hey i know, lets go check it out what do you say Nova, I think it will be fun." her smile still large she hoped that he would agree and go with her to investigate.

Raven rolled her eyes. "Have you been personally blown up by an explosive and been forced to survive while everyone you were meant to command, and to more importantly protect, died?" she asked, keeping the slight anger out of her voice. She wrenched up the right leg of her jeans and showed him the mangled, rather disturbing scar that covered her whole leg. She forced the pant leg back down.

"Look, you might be the all-mighty engineer or mechanic or whatever of this group, but until you have hands-on experience on what those explosives can do, you don't have the right to say anything," she continued before turning on her heel. She began to walk away before one last thing struck her mind. She looked back at him, knowing she would feel no sympathy for him if he got himself killed. But then she decided against it. All he would do is laugh. While she had more important things on her mind, such as making sure everyone was kept safe and didn't get themselves killed through use of simple strategy, the only thing he worried about was the next woman he would flirt with and when he'd have a chance to down another can of beer.

He was approached by the mech operator, seemingly with a complaint. She was so formal and precise. It was unsettling. Her voice was cold and calculating. She regarded him as "ambassador", a title he's definitely not used to. She brought up a discrepancy regarding her name.

"Yeah I know your name." He lowered his voice down a little bit more, "But if you really don't want anyone to know I won't tell anyone." He turned around and marveled at what took years to build, even with the most modern of technology.

His bubble of pride and happiness was not meant to last, however. At the peak of his happiness, his own crew had already started to fight; the anger was directed at Engy for the most part. He felt a small anger burning inside him, but more in the fact that he needed to keep them in line, prevent this from happening. He needed them to stop fighting, arguing would get them killed and they hadn't even started. It was infuriating.

"All of you! Knock it off! We're moments away from becoming pioneers into the new world and fighting amongst yourselves. This is not the time, nor the place. For this to work we need to work together if we're gonna make it through. Engy, stop provoking the others. The rest of you, just drop it. We don't need to be fighting now. Let's just get this done."

The mood was definitely soured by the infighting, especially so soon within the project. In a few moments the portal would be generated, taking them to a place unknown in history. He lined up on the designated pads where they would be taken through the portal.

"Alright guys, this is it. It's time to get on with the show. Ready up and let's go!"

After a few moments and when everyone was ready, he took a deep breath and took the steps forward. As his foot went through he felt a sense of coldness and his breath being taken away. It was as if he was suddenly thrown into a cold pool.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just beyond the edge of the forest, in the denser areas that met the plains adjacent to the forest, a small, incredibly tiny small rip within time and space appeared. The colors and molecules were distorted around that one small area, all converging on a foot sticking out of it. Not only did it scare off the wildlife within the immediate vicinity, it also caused the the ongoing thunderstorm to rage on furiously.
Slowly trekking through the forests were the city's best guards trying to find the source of this disturbance. They were very close by this interdimensional hole, something unheard of within this realm. Naturally, the next thing that would appear through the portal was very foreign and aien to them.
Appearing before them was Issac clad in casual business wear with light armor under his dirty white dress shirt. He shuddered and blinked a couple times innocently. The human, however dressed very differently than the others of the realm, seemed to be looking around as if he were scouting the area. Close behind him even more came out. The bravest of the guards emerged from their hiding spots in the bushes to confront these foreigners.
"Hey You! State your business!"
So this man knew his name. He wasn't prying about it, and he didn't ask questions. Charlotte appreciated this, and looked to the squabble to her side. She stared coldly and let off a smartass remark in monotone; "Boys and their toys."
Charlotte had taken up her position in the Dasher mech she came with. The cab was open and she sat up, looking towards the portal, surveying the squad. Tensions were high, no doubt, these people needed her protection, but it would seem to be more from each other than the wildlife. Isaac was the first to go through. He simply disappeared through the vortex. Charlotte had decided she would go last, so the others could make it through without worrying about a destabilized portal, so her mech was in the back of the group, ready to go through.
"Good luck, everyone," she muttered before closing the cab to her mech and activating it. A mechanical voice spoke from the machine.
"Charlie Hotel Alpha Romeo Lima Oscar Double Tango Echo mechanized program, unit model designation Dasher-2, , unit individual designation Charlie forty-two, operative detected, designation number forty-two. Activating. Wavelength established. Engaged, ready and waiting. Warning, anomaly detected, recommend proceed with caution."
Even Charlotte had to admit, the mech's nearly useless AI was more talkative than she was.
'Bout time' He thought, exhaling a cloud of smoke as he stepped through. Looking around, he felt odd, slightly disoriented, it looked the same as Earth, but something in him knew that wasn't where they were anymore. People showed up soon after he'd popped through the portal, dressed, oddly. 'Old School guards? with swords and the like? Interesting......' He thought, taking the last drag of his cigarette, which he then dropped on the ground, before snubbing it out with his foot. One of the guards looked at him funny, as if to say Bob had disrespected the man personally somehow by stubbing out the butt of his discarded cigarette. He said nothing, and only returned the funny look with a raised eyebrow.
Nova turned to the direction of the forest. He was looking there with wide opened eyes and a shocked expression.
What the-? Something is wrong there.
Whenever there is something unnatural i can feel it, but this time it feels like something big is happening.
He stood up and put some money on the table to pay for his food.
His left hand began to glow. It looks like he is about to use a ability.
If you wanna go there too put your hand on my shoulder. We will be faster like this.
Miku blinked and did as he said. "ok but why?" She looked at him puzzled and then looked around, then she remembered him place his money down,So she did the same and placed her money down too. "so i take it we are heading there some how." the other customers start mumbling as they are worried,they look at the both of them.
'Don't trust the government at all... only difference between street grade and g-men grade is the blast yield...' This kid was some sort of super human, government hater, self justice, thing that had at least some bit of brains behind him. Really the kid had all the makings of a lawyer without a collage degree. Unfortunately he seemed to want to argue to the point of humiliation, "Listen hotshot, your starting off saying 'blast yield' which is used to describe the amount of energy released from a nuclear weapon. I'm not sure what black market you go to but most street men can't get their hands on something like that." He expected the kid to bluff and say he knew a black market that did but he would have to wait before saying that. "I could throw that bag that I tossed to you down a cliff and I still have doubts it would explode based on the type of explosive, and how they are packaged." Seriously, blast yield? The kid was probably talking about blast radius which still didn't make much sense considering all the variables put into explosives. Sure some street explosives had larger radius's but they were unstable and unreliable. He had tried to cheep out on a demolition project one time with 'higher up street grade explosives' and they came out to be three duds and a horrible concentrated explosive that could have killed someone if he hadn't taken an extra safety step just in case. Government stuff was just over all more concentrated and under regulations, much more reliable and stable.
Just then Mrs. Military popped in a word, 'Have you been personally blown up by an explosive and been forced to survive while everyone you were meant to command, and to more importantly protect, died?' He wanted to say, 'sorry I followed my guidelines' but she wouldn't have understood, 'Look, you might be the all-mighty engineer or mechanic or whatever of this group, but until you have hands-on experience on what those explosives can do, you don't have the right to say anything,' Was she serous? He wouldn't have gotten on this 'A-team' if he didn't know what he was doing. "Ok, listen up Princess-" He called any female that thought themselves to be 'higher up than everyone else' princess, "- I know what every explosive does behind its wrapper, and I have used every single one of these things one way or another. I may seem like a laid back, country hick looking for the next girl to take to bed but I have more collage degrees than you have ribbons." He was talking about the service ribbons that would litter her rack if she put on her uniform, "I wouldn't be on this team if I didn't know what I was doing so you should keep quiet until you know what your talking about." He was done with these people, he wanted another beer and to get this thing over with as soon as possible.
'All of you! Knock it off! We're moments away from becoming pioneers into the new world and fighting amongst yourselves. This is not the time, nor the place. For this to work we need to work together if we're gonna make it through. Engy, stop provoking the others. The rest of you, just drop it. We don't need to be fighting now. Let's just get this done.' Of course, the boss man blamed him for this petty argument. It wasn't like 'Silent' Bob had a short fuse and blew up at him for little reason and all he was trying to do was keep his credibility. "Yeah, whatever boss man, just get the machine up so I can get out of here."
He picked up the third bag and held it in front of him, if they thought they were going on a hike they must have been out of their minds, he could barely walk with what he had. After getting in position the portal turned on and he followed Issac. They came out into a forest, the same one they could see with the small 'window' as they called it. Off to the side seemed to be a small town, and he sighed, at least it wasn't a far walk...
Raven blatantly ignored his words. She was wisely or unwisely heeding Isaac's words and dropping the subject. She knew full well what she had meant by hands-on experience and if he was too wrapped up in his own little world to realize that, then there was no use in continuing the argument anyways. They all had their strengths and weaknesses, and she would respect them all for said strengths. But Mech could easily turn himself into a liability if he treated everything so recklessly. If she had done what he had done back at the Academy...
Gosh, she would definitely not be here today.
Sighing, she hefted her pack onto her shoulder more securely and made her way through the portal. She found herself standing behind Isaac, portal behind her...
and several armed medieval-type guards standing in front of her.
Ryan was frankly furious, not that his face showed it. To the casual observer he was the picture of serenity as he calmly sipped his tea at a booth in a small cafè off Guild Street. The Smith Guild had turned him away almost as soon as he'd stepped through the front doors claiming that the "were not accepting masterwork applications this year". Like a bull shit story like that was going to pass him with out scrutiny.
The guild had been a flurry of activity, with scribes carrying stacks of paper and maps every which way, and those in charge almost running form place to place as if there was a crisis large enough that they would risk lowering their social status by running though the guild halls. Ryan wasn't blind, anyone with half a brain knew something was wrong in the world. And most people with a full brain could see that the government was running in circles like a panicking dog trying to figure out what it was. The guild weren't technically part of the government but they had a large say in how economic decisions were made. And thy were were also centers of research in the nation. Even so they rarely actively got involved in politics. If something was stuck far enough up the government bum to make even the guilds run about like headless chickens there was a big problem somewhere. In retrospect perhaps he wasn't quite as mad as he was scared. Something big was coming, something that would change the world as he knew it, and he had no idea what it was.
But as lost in though as he was Ryan wasn't obvious to the world around him. A few minutes ago a young man had walked in and taken the booth behind him to enjoy a piece of cake and read the news paper. He hadn't paid him much attention at the time but when a Sugar Glider girl had joined him and they had started up a most interesting conversation he had started eaves dropping.
When they demonstrated to each other the problems they had been experiencing with their magic he really started paying attention. Ryan too had been having problems. The enchantments he placed in the metal of his gauntlet and coat (to protect his arm form extreme impacts and to absorb the velocity of flying metal shard respectively, hazards when you used magic like his to swing a smith hammer with ten times the force of a normal man) had been failing unusually fast of late, and the effort he had to expend for magic in general seems to change randomly.
Their stories seemed to match up with his in terms of the symptoms felt. He hadn't done much magical study, just enough to master the few enchantments he knew ans learn the math behind his abilities, but he was starting to form theories as to the cause. There was a resonance of some kind interfering with the worlds mana field, an as of yet unheard of phenomenon on this scale.
Ryan felt the change as the storm began to form the mana field seemed to collapse in on it self somewhere to the west of the city. It was easily the strangest feeling he had ever felt. It was failure though, in the sense that he had read of such events in his studies. A Chaos Eye was forming. There were described in vague detail in the older texts most ascribing them to legendary events on the precipice of immense magical feats, the brought about great historical change. Ryan felt true terror form in his core.
The man at the table behind him shot up and his hand began to glow with the tell tail signs of chaos
"What the-? Something is wrong there.
Whenever there is something unnatural i can feel it, but this time it feels like something big is happening.
If you wanna go there too put your hand on my shoulder. We will be faster like this. "
"Woh there boy!" Ryan said as he stood up form his own table. "I can't be entirely sure, but that feels like a chaos eye formin. The little I've of read of them, any magic or chaos used near them has a good chance of failing catastrophically. Lets not get hasty and go blinkin away to our deaths."
((finally. I though you would never post))
Nova stops his skill as he hears a voice speaking to him from the side.
I wasn't planning to go there directly. Just out of the city. We are almost at the center after all, and the crowd starts to get nervous.
And i guess you don't wanna sit here ether. How about you come with me? Something about you seems like it will get helpful.
Even though the situation starts to get hasty, he somehow manages to keep calm. He reaches his hand to the man that stopped him.
My name is Nova. Let's see what this is about.
"Yes sir." Nicky saluted and grabbed the bag with his name on it without another word. Through the rest of the time, he watched as the rest talked. He mostly watched the argument, however didn't dare to say a word. Just part of the blue sniper's personality. Not much that can change that, is there?
"All of you! Knock it off! We're moments away from becoming pioneers into the new world and fighting amongst yourselves. This is not the time, nor the place. For this to work we need to work together if we're gonna make it through. Engy, stop provoking the others. The rest of you, just drop it. We don't need to be fighting now. Let's just get this done." Nicky was glad that the leader came in when he did. Obviously, he didn't like the sound of arguing close by, as many people don't.
"Alright guys, this is it. It's time to get on with the show. Ready up and let's go!" He was already ready, so there wasn't much readying up to do. Nicky took a deep breath and went through the portal second-to-last... To be faced with guards. Not something that happens every day, but it was expected, considering that he, as well as all of Crimson Wing, are strangers to this Earth. And people coming through a portal like that one is also SUCH a common event*! The sniper looked around as if scouting the area himself. Reconnaissance and Observation are 2 of his skills, after all.
(*In case anybody can't tell, (I doubt the possibility, but anyway...) that was sarcasm.)
The last person through. It was her job to protect everyone, and as the portal was becoming audibly unstable, CHARLOTTE took a breath - causing her mech to visibly sigh - and walked through.
Energies ripped at her from within the portal as she made her way through. It was a task in itself just getting through, and no doubt, Mech would have a short project to keep him busy when they got there. C42 felt pain as her mech was damaged in the stream, but she made it to the other side okay, with only slight damage. She stared down the guards from the mech's optic as the portal collapsed behind her and a spark flew out from the mech's shoulder. "Charged Hardline And Riot Land Over Terrain Technical Escort designation "42" ready for duty, ser. Insertion was a success, minor damage received, nothing major. Proceed with caution." Her words were filled with megagaltasticities and officialities, and she had the general presumption some of her squadmates had no idea what a megagaltasticity was. "Unknown entities detected, recommend diplomacy. Individuals are armed with swords, and apparently they are able to manipulate a strange energy I'm picking up. Logging energy in internal computer, designation "Mana". Analysis in progress." Status updates were vital to the success of the mission and even moreso to the safety of the crew, so the actual mission itself granted her vocal chords much needed exercise.
Miku turned at the new persons comment and let go of nova's shoulder. "wait what we could have gone boom?" She paused for a brief moment then as nova talked it reasured her slightly. "oh we weren't going all the way that that's a good thing." Miku blushed and looks away embarressed about her previous Question, She then heads to the window and lets them continue talking, Her attention snaps back to the two as nova extends his hand. "oh and Im Miku, i don't mean to sound rude but if we dont hurry we are going to miss all the fun." her tail sway back and forth as she looks at both of them.
Ryan considered the boy, on closer inspection he want't much of a boy. He couldn't of been much more than 3 years younger than Ryan himself.
Ryan considered the man before him, a little bit rash if first impressions were worth anything, but there was a sense of confidence behind his eyes that was rare among the populous today.
Ryan met Nova's hand with a firm grip.
"Name's Ryan Chorven, there's something wrong with the world now days. Most folk seem inclined to hide from it. I say any man willing to confront it is worth calling a friend. I'll check this out with you, lets just not be rash about it."
Got it. Let's get behind this together.
Nova closed his eyes and began to focus. He focused on his own energy, and on the energy that seemed to be in the forest.
In his mind, he made a path from their point, to the closest possible destination. He began to let his chaos energy flow through his body, which was visible as a blue glow on his hair and hands.
Chaos Control.
The three of them were gone with a flash of blue light.
Almost instantly, they appeared in front of the forest.
Nova opened his eyes again and let go of Ryan's hand.
This is as close as i can take us without taking a risk. Let's get moving.
With that said he began to run into the woods.
The final members of the Crimson Wing had finally made it through, thankfully. Bringing along the mech was really pushing it, but the portal held up. It might have been his imagination or some trick of the light, but he saw a faint flicker from the steadfast portal. It may require further investigation, but there were more pressing matters that demanded his attention. Besides, it was probably nothing.
In front of him were what looked to be a sort of knights. It has been years centuries since anyone has ever seen a knight. Back home, knights were a thing of the past, only heard of in fantasy books and lore. So to his dismay, it was even stranger when not all of those that were in those suits of armor were not human. Most noticeably were men almost double the size of humans, others that looked to be as small as a child, and some were covered in fur. The humanoids in these suits of armor puzzled him greatly, pondering on how he their timeline had progressed compared to theirs. It was confirmed that this should be a parallel version of Earth, so it shouldn't be as different as it was.
Whilst he was pondering the mech had scanned the group of knights that confronted them. A particular thing that stood out was how she stated an unknown energy source. She called it "Mana," like in the books about magic and wizardry. "Peculiar," he thought.
Emerging from the crowd of guards was someone, a human, that wore much more regal armor than the rest of the knights. It was obvious that she was someone of note, a captain or commander of the guard. She was the only one to keep a nice and composed posture, acting as if their arrival was an everyday occurrence.
"State your business here! Who are you and where did you come from?" She spoke with a commanding presence that even made Issac take a step back in surprise. She was very inspiring, yet intimidating. From the four seconds he knew her, he could tell that she was worthy of a commanding position.
Gathering his courage, he stood in a business-like posture and responded coolly, "We are the Crimson Wing. We are...travelers. We just got here and we're just getting our bearings around the area." The guards looked like they didn't buy it, though he wasn't lying. They still stood on guard and were wary of him. So far this wasn't shaping up to how he thought it would turn out. At least they spoke in English.
He turned to his allies, to see if they had anything to add. Nicky seemed to be a little shaken up, though he already got back to observing the area and scouting around, even from his slightly obscured position. Bob and Raven were next to each other since they came in together. Bob was... silent throughout most of their encounter. Engy was near the Mech still looking a little ticked at the argument earlier. Mech was being her usual self, cold and calculating. Right now she seemed to be scanning and analyzing Issac and the guards' conversation, though the conversation wasn't going so well
It would likely not be a very good idea for the well-armed scouting robot to speak for or against anything. They probably didn't even know what guns were - unless they had an idea, in which case, she was ready to explain their preparedness. She wouldn't even have to lie, she would simply explain that they were armed to prevent any death on account of wildlife. And if they threatened them, she would have to use intimidation, and tell them they would also be able to eliminate any hostile sentients. Luckily, she was well versed in medieval etiquette - as was made obvious by her acknowledgement of males as "ser", and her overly polite manner of speaking.
She considered opening the cab of the mech and withdrawing to help ease the situation. She would require an order, however, as withdrawing from her cab puts them in a martially precarious position, but a diplomatic advantage.
Engy looked over as a girl came out of the group. Boy was she good looking. He was about to walk over to her when she started to speak which caught him off guard. He didn't like a woman who was so in charge... especially if she turned out to be another 'princess' like Raven. Still, she was good looking. Maybe he could give her a chance.
He returned to looking at the mech spotting a couple of spots where he could improve. He knew it was a prototype but from what he could tell they didn't exactly go over their work. With another glance at the gall who seemed to be in charge of the heavily armed beings he noticed Issac was caught for words, "We come from another world. I don't think either of us us looking for a fight." he was being flat out with them, no need to lie. They weren't even close to their technology. Still small talk was necessary to get them out of this topic.
It was natural, creating fake conversation that is, because he had to do it all the time with his fans. He also had a topic that might interest them both. "If you don't mind me asking, your sword. Why is it not wilting. With such a structure it should be weaker in the center. If I'm not mistaken that's a mixture of steal and... maybe some type of Iron and bronze filling. What did you do to create such a strong core?"
He noticed the others seemed surprise he wasn't hitting on her. They must have been ready to kill him when he started with the whole 'If you don't mind me asking,' line. Work was different from play. He knew what was what... sometimes...
~~~
Gain was walking when he notice some others arguing about something. He slowly walked over unnoticed and listened. They talked about a threat, something odd obscuring powers and unbalancing things. He was going to tail them. The one named nova seemed to be concentrating and at the last second hd joined in, using a small squid like tentacle to connect him in the teleport. He withdrew it immediately after and continued to trail them unnoticed.

Miku Blinked and as she opened her eye they had already been teleported,While she looked around the forest her natural Scout like abilitys kicked in and she scurried up one of the trees. "hmm i cant see anything" She sniffs the air, her tail sways as she rebalances on the branch. " well i smell lots of city guards, But what concerns me are the sents that im not used too." She climbs back down and looks at her Companions. "whats next im not the leading type so where do we go from here?"
