After a huge war between any and all nations that were self sufficient enough to go to war, which happened to be the fourth major war since cross-continent relationships started deteriorating in 3042, the world was engulfed in clouds, and the sun was unable to break through to the surface below. It would be more believable to say that nuclear warheads caused it. Truth was that a massive fracture underground caused by intense and repetitive explosions set in motion a very massive chain reaction of almost all known volcano's in the world. Many of the dormant or inactive ones were awakened due to the fracture, which dove deep enough to suck molten rock violently into them.

[From this point forward, it is up to the first poster to decide which scenario is the starting point, or merge two of them for a more interesting survival experience. Once the first poster makes their decision, it is decided.]

1. Days before the eruptions all around the world, the biggest nations threw all they had at each other, missiles, nukes, you name it, they destroyed what thy could, though a nuclear annihilation wasn't the reason the world fell into darkness. The warheads still did damage enough, and it wasn't without disastrous results. The survivors were scarce, and food was rather plenty, but with an amazingly high amount of it, there also games formidable mutated foes to balance risk and reward, and make survivors think twice before venturing out for a score of food. All across the world, mutated abominations walked the earth, and put in their place a good many unlucky people who dared challengtpe them. The story follows a group of survivors, trying to make their way through an abandoned shopping mall, whose layout has tripped them up. All the while, they have plenty a foe around most every corner, making their time there a big uneasy.

2. After the explosions of one volcano too many, governments decided to use biological warfare, and since the clouds of erupted ash blocked satellite signals, and unspeakable interference with planes caused failures and crashes, it was reasonable the virus would spread. Of course, boats were still able to cross the oceans with no problem, and so the other countries would be destroyed also. Undead flooded the world and all its islands and continents, and before long, the world was, literally speaking, quite devoid of life. The survivors scavenged an old military base, established before the third war. The radiation in the area was relatively low, except for one major hotspot that seemed to travel with the wind that frequently brushed through the area. That, along with undead, bandits, and other dangers like crumbling buildings and near obliterated catwalks and the like, made for a rough search for things of use.

3. All went to hell after the bombs and volcanic explosions, as things that weren't supposed to be discovered, were let loose upon a destroyed planet, and crippled societies. Various adaptations of vampires and werewolves alike, roamed the earth. Unlike the stories of old, the only problems they had with each other were when the fought over meals. This made for a hellish recon mission in a destroyed subway megastation. Quite like a small underground city, The Sanctuary, as many called it, was a megastation that was highly sought after as a defensible survival base. Officially and realistically, it wasn't perfect, due to its' size, as well as the many hundreds if air ducts across the underground facility. Still, a group was willing to go further in than any one person would like to admit.

I hope people take a liking to this, and the ideas I've offered. I'll post an OOC soon.

Boredom. Death and boredom were the two things that shouldn't have been allowed, but were everywhere. People were always watching movies of nuclear war or zombies... but not both at once. Jason noticed that rather quickly. Nobody really knew much about radiation. It was a good thing Jason found the base. It was a bad thing that there was an area they were forbidden to go in. Some idiots died having a wander round.

But now things were running out. Food. Water. Medicine. Necessities. And with less and less was more boredom and death. Just sitting around, doing nothing. They needed some decent entertainment as well. The question was... who stayed and who left? Jason needed to go... he wasn't hanging around forever. He knew about bandits... there needed to be someone strong on the team, or they were doomed.

"Shh" Ina hushed, pointing towards a barracks close by. It was overrun by undead, the first place in the base she'd seen with such a number of them. Getting out here certainly had its gains, but it also had drawbacks. One of which was the ever present feeling of death. That feeling in your gut that maybe, just maybe, this run would be your last. Ina tried to brush the chills off, and kept moving with the others. It would be a minute before they could make their way to safety.

Ina was an outstanding five feet and five inches, with blue hair, and a small scar on her cheek. Surviving had not been easy, between the undead, and the living, and the memories of what happened haunted her every second of the day, but she never let them get to her. Ina was strong, and wanted to stay that way, especially in front of those around her. The group moved into a large structure that looked to be a weapon training facility, though the ransacked and destroyed building didn't make it easy to tell that. The only way to know was to see the targets and training course on the inside. Ina made gestures for everyone to fan out, and keep quiet.

Jason noticed Ina. He was friends with Ina. Sometimes. She seemed a lot stronger than him, which got on his nerves. And she was an inch taller. He saw what she was looking at; a barracks the undead were roaming around. He stared at her for a moment. She looked a lot brighter than him, with his chestnut eyes and his light brunette hair, that he'd cut away the fringe for practicality. Jason found it hard not to notice her. There was a few ways they could do the run. But probably Ina's ways were better. They always were. Jason had a good eye, but not as good a brain.

He was one of the few people who wasn't torn apart silently by grief or trauma. Jason tried to stay optimistic: they were alive, after all. Survivors. And he lived entirely to show he was alive and for nothing more. "Ina," he whispered, to get her attention, "Could we trap them somehow?"

Ina pondered the request upon hearing it. As Jason said, somehow. It wasn't much of could they, as it was how could they. Anything could be trapped, if you were creative enough. She just didn't know how. Ina thought really hard as to how to do it. As they searched the building and cleared it of its last goodies, her emerald eyes gazed over all the walls, and what ceilings were still hovering above them.

"J, you think you and a few others could hide in the bushes outside, on the sides of this building?" Ina said, getting an idea. Most of the group was made of men who had more than a little muscle, and Ina was fast on her feet. The back door was conveniently open, and double doors in the front made for a mass entrance of undead in the building. "I intend to lure them in, and those outside will bring this crumbling building down on them." She stated after a few seconds of silence.

A risky move at best, but there was surely things inside that barracks. More pillows with luck, she thought. Any number of things could happen. The building could topple down on those outside, the shuffling corpses could notice them as they passed to the front doors. The only thing she hadn't taken into consideration, was her own life. After all, it was her idea, and she'd take the blame regardless of the worst possible outcomes. Ina was just going out on a limb and hoping it was good enough to get it done.

I had to open my big mouth, Jason thought to himself. This screamed danger. "Sure," he replied, glancing at the bushes she was referring to with a gleam in his eyes and a sly smile. Make it a game, he said mentally. He knew that practically everyone was fast on their feet, and it wouldn't be hard to hide in some bushes without getting killed. Unless they were ambushed from behind. On that thought, Jason turned his head for a few moments so he could see behind. All clear.

Looking back front, drawing out the game plan given to him, and looking at the good scenarios. Of which there was only really one. Which was, the undead stayed dead, and everybody else stayed alive. He looked around at the people around him. The quickest with Ina would make sense. Letting out a hum of thought as the idea fully registered. "Okay." He gestured to a few people to come with him, edging his way around the building to not get spotted, before reaching the bushes. I don't think they saw. You can breathe now, he told himself, sighing, making sure to be as quiet as possible.

Kris followed Jason, absolutely silent on the rough ground. Personally she thought this plan was stupid but she was confident that even if everyone else died she could make it out alive. So she followed the orders, since she had yet to think of a better plan. Besides she would probably split so anyway, might as well have some fun. Kris smirked quietly, her thoughts quickly turning to something dirty when she thought about "having some fun." But for now zombies would have to suffice.

(Sorry guys, my previous post didn't make sense. Since I was to slow, just ignore the one I deleted.)

((No problemo))

Jason waited for something to happen. He wasn't always a patient person, though he tried his best. Hmm... Kris is fast. Perhaps she should have stayed with Ira. But she's stealthy as well. Shut up, Jason, he thought, watching the girl for a moment before turning his attention back to Ira, awaiting a signal of some sort. The plan seemed certain to work at this moment. Who knew what would happen in a few minutes. The boredom was already creeping back in.

"Wow you get bored easily," Kris said already seeing the glazed look in his eyes. She bounced all the balls of her feet, holding the handle of her hunting knife. "What are they waiting for?" Kris asked, if they waited much longer the plan would completely back fire. She blew wisp of black hair out of her face, getting annoyed.

Jason scowled as if to say so what if I did, but said nothing till Kris said something else. "Perhaps they want a signal from us?" he suggested in a low whisper, fixing his eyes on the collection of undead, almost expecting one to notice them. He had a knife to protect him, but Jason didn't have it in his hand and he was much better at throwing it. One zombie... would already be dead, but in these numbers, brains before brawn. The quicker Ira put her plan into action, the better.

Ina made her move, and closed on the massive amount of undead, shouting and yelling, jumping around, causing as much attention to herself as possible. The corpses quickly noticed, and shuffled after her. It was working so far, but she still had to get hem into the other building. As she rounded the fist corner of the building, a flesh eating maggot bag intercepted her, and they tumbled to the ground. "Shit!" Ina said in a hushed tone. She was struggling on the ground, and had a train of them behind her. As she got her hand on her knife, Ina stabbed the zombie in the skull, pushed it aside, and quickly jumped to her feet, shouting and causing a commotion, so those in the bushes weren't noticed.

She made it to the back of the building as the undead finally all came in the front. Ina slammed the door, and shouted out. "Now! Push the walls down!" Ina made her way to the side opposite Jason and Kris, and immediately started pushing.

Jason jumped up almost immediately after the word 'now'. It wasn't just the zombie's attention Ina had caught. He began pushing the building, watching as parts crumbled as the group helped out. On the plus side, the plan had worked. On the down side, the plan had worked and because of that, they'd destroyed a building. A broken building. If there wasn't undead, the place could have been restored to former glory. Now you're being unrealistic, he thought to himself. As if anything was being restored to any former glories at all. At the sound of falling debris, Jason seemed emotionless. Boredom and death. And we've avoided both, he thought.

Kris, rubbed her hands together. The sharp stones had bit into them when they pushed over the building. Their work done she came over to Jason. "Hey," she gave him a booty bump as her greeting. Something felt off, but she couldn't figure out what. Suddenly a gutteral growl met her ears. She spun to face the undead monster just as he barreled her to the ground. He was stronger than she was and it took all her strength to hold him back, even has he wrapped his slimy rotten fingers around her throat. Her brain stopped working as she tried to figure out what to do.

"Hi, Kris," he replied simply, just as she was pinned by an undead. She definitely wasn't protecting herself. What the hell, Jason, he thought to himself, bringing his knife out from his belt, and thrusting it downwards into the monster's head. Gross, he thought to himself, pulling the knife out. "That was close." He wondered if on the other side of the building someone else had been tackled. Nearly didn't avoid the death bit there. Just to make sure it was dead, he stabbed it again. Jason wasn't having any surviving rubbish from it.

"Ew!" Kris shook the nastiness off of her as best she could. Her white tank top now stained with gore, though her pant we're mostly unharmed. She was definitely getting a shower later, screw radiation.

Unfortunately for Jason, lots of 'nastiness' ended up on his own clothes. Fortunately for Jason, he wasn't all that bothered about himself, only about his weapon. So when he realised his knife was, obviously, stained, he wiped it on his t-shirt with a mutter on how messy killing was.

Ina sat down, her body sliding down what was left of the wall she had pushed down. They still hada few places to scavenge before heading home, and one place was on the other side of the complex. "Ugh.. Can we have a normal day please? Just once?" Ina said in an annoyed tone. She couldn't have a relatively uneventful day when scavenging, and her post, unlike some of the others, was restricted to mostly that. It would be easier if there were an annoying person to make it worthwhile.

Jason wasn't annoying, Kris wasn't annoying, nobody was. Nothing but the things Ina found herself doing daily. Last week she had to be live bait for the undead kill squad. Now this, though it was her idea.

"Nope, I doubt that will ever happen," Jason replied back to her, going back round so he was with the rest of the group. He found everywhere had something happening. He'd given up on 'normal' days. These days were normal. He wanted to say something assuring or something, but Jason couldn't think of anything, and therefore, nothing was said. "Is everybody still alive?" he asked the group, searching for a joke in his mind to raise the spirits, but none decided to pop round for a visit. Shame. Everyone seemed fed up with life. High hopes were required to scavenge.

"We could move out, hit another city," Kris suggested. "Life is getting a little to rough around here." She was tired of the same bull everyday and she didn't feel like putting up with it. Not when their was a whole world to rediscover and no one to stop you.
