Is it too late to make a character? D:

Did it? I must have suddenly lost the ability to comprehend English entirely then. ^^' My most sincerest apologies good sir! I shall move forward from my own illiteracy and carry on with the momentous task to create a character for this interesting and well made rp.

Sarcasm aside I had assumed the character sheets on the last page were meant for the last remaining spots. Didn't hurt to ask before I sink my time into making a character. Thank you for letting me know! c:

Eh, I just mentioned what the thread title said. I don't know if this is first come first serve or not.

To Brovo, although I don't agree with the nonsense subatomic suit, after having watched something discussing Ant-Man, I did realize that if the air inside the suit is circulated and the carbon dioxide converted to oxygen, there isn't a problem as long as the character didn't suffer a depressurization. Doesn't change the overall absurdity of the whole thing though.

Hey now. We're not GMs, so I'm pretty sure it's not our place to judge people's CSes. Well, in here at least. Everything's fair game when you're skyping with a friend or two.

Name: Samuel "Graz" Grazdan
Age: 32
Sex: Male
Species: Human
Appearance:
Ship Survivor or Colonist?: Colonist
Biography:

"Graz" grew up Samuel Grazdan, a Galileo 3 colonist and son to a corporate expedition pilot. His father, Robert Grazdan, flew for Tyre Pharmaceuticals conducting planetary surveys to find untapped natural resource locations.

Spending the majority of his free time in the woods with his father, Sam matured with a healthy respect for nature and the cycle of life. He saw death and learned quickly what a human needed for survival when all the gloss of modern living was stripped away.

During Sam's teenage years, Robert began bringing his son along on flights — though it was against his company's insurance policy — teaching him to handle various aircraft and exposing him to the oft dangerous world of frontier flying. The teenager achieved his pilot's license before his ground permits.

Not only did his father's expeditions give Sam the chance to fly, it also gave him the chance to survive. Sam's father often accompanied the company researchers on their expeditions, hiking scores of miles from their landing zone at times to locate rare resources. Sam came along on these as well, helping where he could … often as a luggage mule.

When it came time for Sam to leave for his military service, he had spent over 500 hours in the air (though many were not on the record due to his young age), and logically landed in the INEF's inner-atmosphere airlift wing. Initially he was pressured to join the INEF fleet, but Sam preferred the less exciting logistics flying to the romanticized fleet pilots up in space. With logistics, he could still see the incredible vistas of the planet speeding by below him. Space was just … space.

It was during his military service he came on the nickname "Graz" — a result of his flight leader refusing to say his entire name — and the name stuck.

After his military service period ended, Graz was immediately offered a spot flying alongside his father at Tyre Pharmaceuticals. Longing for the exciting bush flying he grew up with, he took the position and flew for several years with his father.

When Graz was 28, his father retired from Tyre Pharma and moved with his mother to Tyre's Valley. Around the same time, Graz began taking private contracts with non-pharmaceutical companies hiring for exploratory pilots in his down time. After a few years of balancing both worlds, Graz bought his own craft and went fully independent. His new contracts took him much farther than his TP expeditions generally went, and involved him in a wider variety of searches; rare planetary minerals; rare fauna; untapped springs; etc.

Being a bit of a workaholic — a way for him to avoid falling prey to the trappings of adult societal obligations — Graz took one job after the other, taking downtime only to rest. Eventually his reputation as a workhorse became well known among corporations utilizing exploratory teams, increasing his contracts, his compensation demands, and his friends in wealthy, powerful places.

Though his job leaves him with a bit of a grizzled exterior, Graz is just as much a businessman as an explorer. Beneath the gruff facade, Graz possesses a humble wit and charm he employs to ensure he gets the best contracts during negotiations.

Despite growing up an outdoor addict, Graz has been spending more time than he cares to admit in Bellsford's urban centers and his apartment in central Bellsford. The rigors of managing a business are best handled from an area with electricity and available caffeine.

Unfortunately for Graz, the city — foreign turf — is where he stands when the first sign of siege arrives on Galileo.

Stats:

  • [*]Strength: 5
    [*]Agility: 5
    [*]Marksmanship: 5
    [*]Intelligence: 5
    [*]Courage: 7 [Trait +1]
    [*]Survival: 7[Trait +1]

Traits:

Trait 1: Keen Senses (survival)
Spending the majority of his formative years in the brush with his father, Graz's attention to easily overlooked details — those that may give away a potential threat or evidence of a nearby animal or plant species — have been sharpened.
Trait 2: Flyboy (Courage)

Having learned to fly inner atmosphere craft from his father before he was even legally allowed to pilot common ground vehicles, Graz is a skilled pilot. As is the life of an exploratory bush pilot, Graz has often been faced with extreme weather conditions and unsafe landing zones, not to mention malicious fauna and dangerous terrain. Having frequent experience with danger, Graz's will has steeled.
Trait 3: Nanite Medic

As a private contractor, corporations competing to sign Graz on for contracts will often offer interesting "gifts" alongside the pay offered for his work. One of these gifts was a jacket — whose aesthetics he personally designed — which houses a network of medicinal nanite generators in key locations for rapid injection deployments. The nanites are capable of performing basic first aid functions up to stitching and very minor "surgeries". (For example, if Graz is shot, the nanites can break down the bullet inside his body and repair the wound. However, if Graz were to have a limb blown off or suffer massive brain or chest trauma, the nanites may be able to stabilize him but he would need proper medical treatment to survive. Likewise, the nanites cannot "create" blood, so massive blood loss will still leave Graz incapacitated.)
Trait 4: Cartographer

As is the case with many pilots, Graz has a comprehensive database of maps and satellite imagery detailing the city of Bellsford as well as many rural regions of the planet where he has previously operated.
Trait 5: Friends in High Places

Working and maintaining a strong reputation with wealthy companies has its advantages. Graz has a variety of influential "friends" in companies (often with political ties) that can prove useful when he is in a tight spot … assuming Graz is willing to pay back the favor later. Whether or not the friends will remain helpful during the siege remains to be seen.

Equipment List:

Ziz Aeronautics KWEST Light Aircraft

Graz's KWEST is a small, 3 seater VTOL aircraft specially designed for landing in tight, rural spaces. (such as dense forests or craggy mountain cliff sides) The craft is unarmed, as per government regulations for civilian inner atmosphere aircraft. Rather than weapons, the craft houses a variety of research and scanning equipment which aid Graz during exploratory scouting missions. Much of the onboard equipment is "plug in", meaning it can be quickly removed and swapped for equipment better serving Graz's current job. The KWEST, being a small craft, is primarily solar powered (though there is a thorium backup battery in the event of a system failure) and is stored at a launchpad several miles from Graz's apartment in Bellsford.

Alacran Military Solutions MRS-B Rifle
This is a mid range, bolt action rifle firing .30-06 ammunition, primarily used by Graz for scaring off dangerous fauna and, if need be in a dire situation, hunting for food or defending himself from miscreants. The rifle is equipped with an 8x scope.

INEF (mod) 9mm pistol
Graz's standard sidearm from his military days. He has (illegally) modified the pistol to increase the velocity of the projectiles at the expense of the pistol's rate of fire.

Bug Out Bag
Graz's bug out bag is simply a large, framed hiking pack. The pack is waterproof and heavily resistant to tearing and melting. This pack is always stocked with a variety of survival gear.
1x Advanced First Aid kit (bandages, disinfectant, nanite stitch gel, burn creams, flares, water purification tube, rubbing alcohol, medical multi-tool, bottle of vitamins, bottle of aspirin)
1x Survival Kit (flares, fire starter, 1 week of MRE's, 15 protein gels, GPS ping beacon, spool of mini-duracable [60 feet])
1x Omni-Enviro single person tent
1x TightRoll All Temp survival blanket
1x SolaGlow hiking head lamp
Job specific clothes, equipment, rations, etc.

Huntmaster Corp Active Bowie Knife
This knife is a 10 inch Bowie knife. It is considered "Active" as the blade can optionally vibrate at a variety of frequencies, aiding the user in cutting through particularly tough material, chipping rocks, etc. It has been said that some individuals use the vibration feature to aid in the breaking of locks, but Huntmaster Corps denies such use of its product.

Commtaxt Len-S /Pal-M
Commtaxt is a popular communications company specializing in all-in-one consumer grade communications technology. Their Len-S line of contact lenses is a wearable smart computer which allows users access to mass communication networks, personal calls, and social media environments. As most users do, Graz reluctantly bought the Pal-M hand accessory — a ring which both projects Len-S data and images onto the user's open palm and acts as a camera for transferring real time video alongside Len-S calls. He would switch service providers but the cancellation fee is ridiculous.

  • Name: Libero (formerly Vincente)
    Age:
55 as an AI, 89th overall
    Sex: Male
Species: Duplicate AI (unique AI race with complete free will), formerly Fonte (see bio for details)
Ship Survivor or Colonist?: Ship Survivor

    Stats:
    • Strength: 8
    • Agility: 5 (4 +1 from Built For Combat)
    • Marksmanship: 1
    • Intelligence: 4
    • Courage: 8 (7 +1 from Cool, Calm and Collected trait)
    • Survival: 7 (6 +1 from Silk Skin trait)

    Traits:

Trait 1: Cool, Calm and Collected- Libero spent over 50 years in and out of combat. He is more unnaturally calm than even typical experienced soldiers would be, giving him a 1 point boost to Courage.

Trait 2: Feeling Strangely Fine- The Fonte made bodies for the AIs to live in that kept the senses and sensations of organic bodies. Libero's body is capable of feeling all senses that organics feel, but his tech isn't made like typical AI bodies. As he is not a typical 'Type 3 AI', Libero cannot have new skills programmed into his mind or plug himself into tech to access them.

Trait 3: Speak Softly- His calm demeanor mixed with his extremely human-like face allows Libero to easily communicate with people, both as a calming presence in stressful situations and an inviting presence in diplomatic and political discussions. This is overriden when speaking to someone who hates or distrusts robots, AIs and non-their-race beings in general.

Trait 4: Built For Combat- Unlike the regular AI bodies most Duplicated AI have, the Birthed AI bodies were modified with combat in mind. This included enhanced speed and reflexes, which add a 1 point stat boost to Agility.

Trait 5: Silk Skin- To protect him in battle, Libero and a small number of Duplicated AI have an outer 'skin' layer made of Silk Skin, an extremely tough and heavy material that, while thin, protects the insides of the body better than regular human body armor. Humans cannot handle the weight, but these bodies are built to handle it, so Libero can move at regular speeds while getting a 1 point survival increase. The downside is twofold: first, he has no Silk Skin over his neck or joints, making them easy weak spot targets; second, he is very heavy, which can lead to a variety of problems in general.

    Equipment List:
    • Two Martellos, tonfa-like stick weapons housed in Libero's arms. Their ends are flat, but can be replaced with his Martello attachments. One special function of his Martello is that a button press causes the end of the Martello stick to quickly enter and exit the base, which works as a short-range jackhammer.
    • Two Martello round-end attachements meant for hitting organic opponents non-lethally. Stored in Libero's left hip.
    • Two Martello pointed-end attachements meant for lethal attacks on organics. Stored in Libero's right hip.

  • Libero was originally a Fonte, a humanoid race from the planet Parivin. His people are about a couple heads taller than humans with naturally thinner bodies, but otherwise look the same. They are peaceful, non-religious and very unified in their efforts. Before connecting with the rest of the alien races, the Fonte perfected a form of AI based on making an emulator of the Fonte brain and copying the consciousness of a Fonte into it, making what amounts to a virtual clone placed specifically in a robot body. Instead of making it somehow 'more' than a living Fonte, the bodies were designed to experience the senses and sensations of living as similar to reality as possible while making the shell protective and strong, so they looked like plastic versions of their old selves.

Furdah, one of the many powerful countries on Parivin, decided to go further with AI technology. Unfortunately for Furdah, and all of the Fonte, the efforts to making an AI from scratch, or 'birthing' a mind, ended in disaster. These new AIs that felt no fear of death and saw no reason to be kind to the Fonte eventually got out of hand, and after their endangering of Fonte lives lead to the Furdahn government trying to regulate their behavior, riots and uprisings brought chaos and violence to the peaceful peoples of Parivin. After Furdah fell to their creations, the Birthed AIs set their sights on the rest of the world. They took over the factories their creators put them together in, redesigning the bodies for battlefield use with armored skin, produced millions of copies of the same AIs to put in the warrior bodies, creating an army, and began their invasion.

Libero was originally a Fonte named Vincente, a middle-aged therapist, and he had a family he felt was worth protecting. When the Birthed AIs started getting violent, Vincente was one of the volunteers willing to join together with the government to defend his home country of Wahr as a soldier. In an effort to appeal to the Duplicate AIs, who as a whole were divided on taking part in this conflict, the Birthed AIs started taking Wahr soldiers captive and making AI copies of them against their will, offering the Duplicates a larger number of 'their own' in exchange for help. The Duplicates instead stood up against the Birthed, and started fighting back, side by side with Wahr and the rest of the world.

Wanting to make use of the hundred or so Duplicates they made, the Birthed AIs told them that they could get back the lives that were taken from them by being the only 'thems' left. Vincente was one of the captives, and his Duplicate AI was told by his captors that his life as a Fonte was over, that his family, his job, his entire life still belonged to the Fonte he was copied from. If he worked with the Birthed AIs, Vincente's Duplicate AI would be allowed to have his life back. He, and all of the other captives' Duplicates, refused to cooperate, and were told to watch their old selves' mass public execution and then make their minds.

Before the execution, the Fonte Vincente offered his old life to the Duplicate, telling him that his family needs him in any way he can be there. The AI told him that the Birthed were right in saying that his life was taken from him the moment he wasn't in a Fonte body, but that they were wrong in saying that he could have it back. Making peace with one another, they went to the execution expecting it to go as planned. As the Birthed prepared to begin killing Fonte, a large force of Duplicates and Fontes arrived and destroyed the Birthed that were there. Fontes all across the world had joined together and made AI copies of themselves, doubling their soldiers' numbers and creating an army of millions.

The war of the AIs had begun. Vincente was returned to his family, and his AI, going by the new name Libero, trained with the Duplicate AIs in combat. Unlike the regular Duplicates, who were made to be as durable as Fonte bodies, the body Libero and the other former captives had was in was designed by the Birthed to be extremely tough and ready for combat. His weapons, Martellos, were tonfa-like sticks that could move through the handle connection to function as forearm protectors in one moment or reach extending sticks in the other. The sticks had end attachements that could be rounded, flat or piercing, and they were stored in his forearms when not used. The Duplicate AI military added a 'jackhammer' function to Libero's Martellos on request, allowing the end of the stick to quickly move back and forth to thrust or stab a target and quickly destroy it.

Libero was in several large-scale battles and many skirmishes with the Birthed AI during the AI War, fighting on the front lines and using the Birthed AI's hardened body tech against them. After destroying the factories the Birthed AIs used to make more soldiers and hunting the remaining Birthed down, the war was officially won. The innocence of the planet was lost, however, and the search for life after death had been over for a while. Wondering what was 'next' for the world, the collective eyes of the Fonte and Duplicates looked up, to the stars.

When contact was made with other species several years later, Libero was there to help keep things diplomatic, sent with representatives of the Duplicates and Fonte to interact with their guests. When slavers, bandits and other antagonists of the galaxy came to Parivin, Libero was ready to fight man and machine alike. When Parivin had successfully established itself as a civilization worth respecting or leaving alone, things were looking up for the Fonte. It was finally time for Libero to go. He'd moved so far away from his old life without leaving his people, and now the final step in finding himself and his purpose in life would have to be found in the worlds beyond his own. He was not a family man, he was not a soldier, an ambassador or even a Fonte anymore. Libero, for the first time, didn't know what he was, only that the universe had limitless potential.

Libero spent three years of his life with no one over his head, no orders to follow or family to work for. His time as a therapist was long gone, he thought, but then Libero had the opportunity to travel with alien refugees. Their colony had been attacked by raiders of the same species, and most of their friends and family were dead. He was a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen with and a guide to advise for dozens of broken people, and Libero realized that his people were so very lucky compared to the rest of the universe, to only fight amongst each other in one conflict before facing monstrous people like alien raiders or godlike forces of evil like the Chrysalids. They had AIs to protect them, and were in no real danger, but the universe was so much weaker than his homeworld, where Fonte never fought Fonte.

One of the alien families convinced him to accompany them to a human colony, Galileo, where they intended to try and live amongst the humans. As they made their way to the colony, the ship Libero and the refugees were on was stopped by one of the INEF defense ships orbiting the planet. Libero didn't know this, but another passenger on the ship was smuggling some sort of contraband he saved from the destruction of his colony, and everyone was detained on the defense vessel so that the INEF could investigate the smuggling and determine who was and wasn't involved.

Then the Chrysalids attacked. Libero, being an AI of non-familiar tech, was voluntarily being examined by techies o the ship, away from the other detained travelers, and couldn't possibly get to them before the ship was destroyed. Hoping that the family also escaped, he entered an escape pod and shot towards the colony, into the unknown.
Approved.
Well in most cases I would agree with you but that feature was implemented because of Haven's cube, which is alien technology. Unless you are saying that no other species in this entire universe has the knowledge and technology to create such a feature...... if you want though, I could take out the feature and then implement it later in the role-play as a plot device? If not well, you're GM so I don't really have a choice in the matter. xP
Nope. That violates some core principles of the universe right there via sending physics into a head spin. It's a straight veto period. If the tech exists anywhere, it exists as technology sufficiently advanced that it may as well be magic, and isn't available for this RP in particular. :ferret:
I don't the impression that kind of tech is really meant to exist in this setting at all.
It technically can. Nearly any technology technically can exist: It just wouldn't be explainable or usable for the INEF. I take some of my tips from the likes of Clarke, or Asimov.

Ship Survivor or Colonist?: Colonist

Bios:

When a race is preoccupied with its physical survival and building up its power, some things are inadvertently left behind and forgotten. Things such as ancient history and the like, which were left buried on the original Terra, forever to be lost under the malicious terraformation. And when things are lost, there always come people, who seek them out, one way or another. Gaius Chernev is such a person!

Despite being a graduate of the TRAIDA (Terran Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Development Academy), his passion had always been history - ever since he was a child. There wasn't any chance for him to hone his passion, though, since the history taught at school was an abridged version and he soon found out that the extended version wasn't overly extended either. After the mandatory military training, which was a terrible experience for him due to putting too much emphasis on the physical qualities he so much lacked, ended his father - Boris Chernev - a professor of Applied mathmatics, who worked on a variety of governmental projects aiming at producing new technologies - was adamant "The Terran Federation doesn't need story tellers, son." he said "You have a great intellectual potential and should apply it where it will bring most benefits to our civilization." At the frail age of 21, Gaius could hardly put up an argument against that and thus enrolled into the academy, studying Applied quantum and molecular physics - a study which he finished with flying colours.

Nevertheless, while there, the young man also managed to grow as a person and put forward his goals, which had nothing, or at least very little, to do with the world of physics. Thus, much to the displeasure of his father, he used his graduation fund (an amount of money, scaling with the diploma grades, that the government gave to all who graduated from higher education so as to kickstart their careers) in order to travel around the colonies and gather data from both digitalised libraries, public records and the people themselves. Since the money wasn't enough, his father, reluctantly, had to also support him for a time despite dismissing his son's efforts as a youth's naive flight of fancy. Nevertheless, after about four years of research and a colossal amount of passing together of different pieces of data and drawing own conclusions, Gaius published his first book - "Where did we come from? A complete description of the Ancient world from the Stone through the Bronze Ages", which was immediately embraced by the scientific community and is nowadays treated as the most complete record man kind has of its most ancient history, since the majority of the latter was inadvertently lost with the loss of the original planet. Moreover, Gaius used advanced computer simulations to reconstruct images of places such as the gates of Babylon, the gardens of Semiarid or the pyramids of Egypt that filled in the book and are widely used in public education today. Despite his lack of formal education or authority in the field, a work so all-encompassing couldn't be disregarded - in fact the average citizen's knowledge of human ancient history is now solely based on Gaius' research.

His popularity still in its peak, he settled onto a more challenging, although not so fruitful journey - recording the secret symbolism and occult doctrines of the ancient and medieval world. This time he had the fund to support himself due to his earlier success having made him a modestly rich man and he abused that privilege to its full potential, spending a total of seven years, in which he made two updates over his first research and published his second book, called Mystery and fable: the secret teachings and doctrines of our ancestors. While people perceived this as a mere interesting reading and the scientific community placing its seal of approval, no one really regarded this work as highly as the first one, despite the time end effort dedicated. No one buy Gaius, that is. He regarded the ancients' obsession with stars and celestial bodies as a deeper enigma and thus declared himself to be the starter of a new branch of science - space archaeology.

When Gaius expressed his intention to formally take up space archaeology and even more so - to elevate it to the level of science rather than his own idiosyncrasy, his aspirations became the laughing stock of the scientific community - "There is nothing to study! Just dead space and high-tech hermit kingdoms." they said, dismissing any chances of this field ever taking off. Having learned to live with public disapproval, Gaius wasn't discouraged a tiny bit. He gathered some supporters and started several expeditions to the neighbouring empires, with varying degrees of success. Nothing was heard of him for many years, however when his latest book finally broke ground, it all but overshadowed the success of the first. Gaius' records and research of the ancient and modern history of various alien conglomerates are, until this date, the only official such data that the TF has. Despite the gravity of the achievement, though, Gaius was credited only as a good researcher, but utterly bashed and discredited as a scientist, because of the conclusions he drew from his research of the other worlds. His theorems, stated at the end of the book as a conclusion, were scandalising and, despite not being disproven, were judged to be little more than the mumblings of a mind too concerned with fiction and influenced by ancient epics rather than sound reason. Those were as follows:
  1. Due to the excessive overlapping of a variety of details, both of symbolic, metaphorical and metaphysical nature, in the occult doctrines of our ancestors and the alien conglomerate worlds, as described throughout my research insofar, we are left with no other option by to assume either contact with the same advanced entities or a common creator/ruler for all ancient human and alien nations alike. Whichever the case, the same highly advanced being or beings have had explicit and tangible interactions with the beginnings of every civilisation of the thus recorded.
  2. We have reasons to believe that aliens and humans share the same genome. Nevertheless, humanity is the only race to forge a federation on its own and bolster such a wide variety of cultures and teachings, which serves to indicate that different human races share genome with different alien ones, as described in the glossary henceforth
While these conclusions weren't accepted by the human scientific community, another such community was quite interested in them. Gaius Chernev was contacted by a group calling themselves the Ashen Verdict - an unorthodox group of scientists from many different highly-advanced worlds, working together to uncover the origin of all life in the galaxy and the reasons for the similarities that Gaius found so striking. Usually only much older or more advanced races had grown enough in consciousness to ask these questions and be ready to receive answers, as painstaking as those could be when compared to traditional belief systems, from where their motto - "There is no religion, higher than the Truth" stemmed. Needless to say, Gaius was the only human member of the organisation and the first human to learn of its existence. Their encounter was quite bizarre, actually - similar to the alien abduction stories of the past. As Gaius was having dinner at his apartment, two different beings with the same insignia beamed themselves next to his table and asked for an audience, apologising for their rather crude manners, as they were utterly unfamiliar with the human customs. To Gaius' queries as to how they had escaped the planet's radar system and the surrounding fleet, they explained that during their quest for truth, the Verdict had come across technologies that were above the baseline, even for advanced races, which the humanity was not. After conversing for hours on end, Gaius was more than happy to join them and was allowed access to the Ashen database, his task being to transcribe and match his finding of the human ancestry, mysticism and genome to what the group already knew, thus both expanding their knowledge and most effectively enlarging his own. He was warned against using implants, as they had the function of eroding the left brain's reach and possibilities and was handed a certain device.

Following the encounter, Gaius made quick press statement, describing those events, which led some to think him even crazier than he was already, after which he travelled to Colony Gallileo where he could conduct his studies of the enormous database in peace and quiet. Or so he though...

Trait 1: Seeker of the lost lore Highly experienced researcher, scientist and negotiator, spend the majority of his life solving and looking into things that were previously considered unsolvable +1 Intelligence
Trait 2: Free thinker Experienced at overcoming adversity, distrust, disbelief and negativity, able to persuade people and think critically, both of which on the fly, as has been required for him in his numerous public discussions or sticky situations on alien worlds +2 Courage
Trait 3: The Space Archeologist A renown public figure, albeit considered eccentric or downright weird by many, he is still one of the most highly respected minds of his time, making people much more willing and likely to listen to him as well as slightly more likely to get preferential treatment by virtue of his perceived genius. He is also likely to be recognised by most of the human characters or NPCs, if not by face, then at least by name.
Trait 4: Member of the Ashen Verdict - the Verdict doesn't get involved in conflicts, it merely seeks the Truth, but it also doesn't tend to abandon its own. I do not intend to have someone come and rescue him (lest you think it'd be a cool plot device) but the Verdict is a well-known, enigmatic, powerful and certainly very, very respected organisation amongst most of the alien world, especially the ones that are more developed. Membership of the organisation is sure to tremendously elevate a human's status in the eyes of any race, with all the bonuses stemming from that.
Trait 5: Veni, vidi, intelligi - from running complex simulations using a supercomputer, to persuading alien officials to allow him passage into their sacred sites and trying to make sense of the latter on his own, because of having been denied a translator, to memorizing intricate details of ancient stories for days on end, so that he could write them down in the exact manner later on, to finally coping with and integrating the frighteningly insightful revelations of the Ashen Verdict's database - Gaius Chernev has been there and has done it all. He has had to become incredibly well-versed in radically different fields of knowledge in order to try and unify them in the end, that his frame of thought and scope of mind are quite possibly the most transcendent of all of human kind to date (this is not to say other humans or AI are not better in specific fields or aspects than him, but his strength comes from intertwining them together). This trait has multiple aspects - his way of thinking would usually transcend the ways and patterns of thinking, that other humans would consider normal, which could result in friction and discontent, or - on the contrary - may seem amazingly insightful. +1 Intelligence
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trait 6: (Technically not) A Doctor [cosmetic trait] - despite never obtaining the proper university certification in the field of his exploits and thus never technically earning the title of doctor, every reference to him and his work, even those made by his critics, refers to him as Dr. Gaius Chernev. On the cover of his books, he insisted on his name being spelled without the honorific title, nevertheless any and all references to his works, including those in the public education textbooks, are references to Dr. Gaius Chernev's research. Ergo, a sort of impromptu unwritten agreement has been established in the academic circles to ascribe him the doctorly status so appropriate to his contribution and achievements.

Equipment List:

Ashen beacon - an almost indestructible device, allowing its owner full access to the Ashen verdict's database. The data stream is accessed by means of a concentrated thought and is given either telepathically or through visual representation.

Seal of the Ashen Verdict - a small, ellipsoid object that is running on free energy and is adjusted to protect its owner from all harm by means of shielding his physical and astral body against any potential hostile impact. This means it is also capable of stopping telepathic and sonic attacks. Extremely advanced technology, the limits of which are unknown. How to activate it is also not explicitly conveyed to him, however from what he knows about the Verdict so far, he gathered that it is probably going to react upon following his thought or instinct.

Also, I think it may be interesting for Dr. Gaius Chernev and Admiral Ariston Tychon to be matched in two separate groups and sort of leading them, so that the two leadership styles could collide when everyone is united in the end - like in every classical sci-fi. That's provided everyone agrees, of course.
Oh boy. This character will require a lot of changes to become acceptable. Still, I'll leave the list of issues in a spoiler here, so if you want to tackle the enormous task of adjusting this character to the RP's needs, you can try. The issues are divided into (major) and (minor) points. Major points need to change, no question. Minor points can be left alone, but don't expect the universe to conform if it wouldn't make sense.

There is also the option of remaking this character from scratch or making a new character. Once the IC opens you'll still have two weeks to finish polishing the character.
#1: Space archaeology is already a thing, it's called archaeology. :ferret: Still, he could be a contributor to it in significant ways, seeing as how there are plenty of alien civilizations with which the archaeological information on them is slim to none. (Minor.)

#2: Ancient history would have been taken with humanity when it fled from the Earth. Any information he could have "compiled" by wandering the colonies would have been information that was already publicly available and recorded by scientists. In short: There's no innovation there. He could have feasibly done a blockade run and smuggled himself onto Earth with a breather mask to get fresh information, but even then, the amount of data he could ascertain before he would have to escape would be limited. (Major--Conflicts with the history of the Terran Confederation.)

#3: Even if he compiled an entire book on the subject, odds are good that it would be part of the scientific literature on the subject rather than the sum total--evolution, for example, isn't just one guy's theory. Darwin started it, but there have been dozens of additions, subtractions, and parallel theories devised alongside it to get a bigger picture going. Being praised as a great scientist is one thing, but being the complete and total authority over an entire subject is highly unscientific. :ferret: (Minor.)

#4: "There is nothing to study! Just dead space and high-tech hermit kingdoms." <- This is archaeology and paleontology in a nutshell and that doesn't stop either from being a highly regarded scientific study. There is no reason that the scientific community would say "no" to studying other cultures--especially if it's implied that some of them may have had more advanced technology or greater understandings of the universe than their own. The whole nature of science is a child's curiosity personified and grounded by hard reasoning. They'd be thrilled with the idea, not laugh at it, even if they had some skepticism about it. (Major--Conflicts with one of the cornerstones of scientific reasoning, which is the pursuit of evidence, and may present plot conflicts later.)

#5: The first end point of his book would require an immense level of evidence and would shatter every conception of the universe--not just within the Terran Confederation, but in every major empire around them. Spirituality is still a thing in this universe--FTL ghosts that telepaths see are sometimes referred to as ancient spirits, angels, or demons, and there's still no evidence to disprove the existence of a deity. While it's true that Telepaths across every race share a similar set of characteristics that would be difficult to explain even with Convergent Evolution, this isn't evidence of a mass creator or "visitor" to every race. This kind of theory would be strictly personal on the part of your character and would not be feasibly backed up by sufficient evidence as to draw a logical conclusion. In essence: It's a mystery. (Major--Universe changing level event. Could be downgraded to minor if the theory has no establishing evidence.)

#6: The second end point of his book, that humans and aliens share the same genome, would be easily proven false by a casual, comparative glance at the genetic code of several species. Humans and aliens generally don't share the same genome. While Panspermia is a proven theory in this universe, it's not the sole life starting force. There are some races that can trace ancient heritage to each other from across the stars and others that can't--there are several species that humans share no genetic heritage with, and that includes the Chrysalids. Furthermore, convergent evolution sufficiently explains a lot of the physical similarities, even if the genetic code itself is entirely alien. (Major--Breaks the universe.)

#7: Everything involving the Ashen Verdict has to be cut. Unless they're staffed by sociopaths or the criminally incompetent, their technological level is so overwhelmingly powerful that they will just zap your character out of harm's way the moment they realize the Chrysalids are blockading the planet. That goes doubly so for your character's Ashen Verdict items--that amount of knowledge would not be left solely in his hands. The INEF military would have taken it by now for their own uses. (Major--Cannot allow a character to have connections to a near godlike faction.)

#8: I only allow 1 stat point per trait and it has to be a flat conversion. Ergo you can't have +2 Courage on Trait 2, it can only be +1 unless you spend two trait points on it. Trait 4 has to be cut entirely. Trait 3 is actually fine--fame is fine. (Major--Need to adjust and remove some traits.)

#9: You can be awarded a doctorate without actually completing one for merits of great service to the scientific community. See here. (Minor.)

#10: Ashen items in the inventory need to be removed in concordance with the editing of the Ashen Verdict out of your character's history. As a compromise: He could be noted among such a faction after going out to explore multiple planets, but think of it as more of a long distance relationship rather than close encounters of the third kind. He could still be going through a series of tests or something similar. This way, you can have associations to such an organization without having the power-ball wrecking level of direct connections to them. He may even have an Ashen Verdict item, but it'd be a trait, considering its level of potential power.

I know it may seem harsh to have this much levied your way, but if it means anything, you're not the only one getting this talk. I'm only trying to help you fit better, too. Just doing my job, buddy. :ferret:

Name: Devitri Prapavoidschek
Age: 28
Sex: Male
Species: Human
boss_1_general_vu_by_mitchellmohrhauser-d7xusot.jpg
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 220lbs
Devitri's torso and arms are covered in tattoos and scars he received in both military service and prison.
He smells slightly of fresh asphalt, cinnamon, and lighter fluid.
Ship Survivor or Colonist?: Colonist

Biography: Devitri was born into rough circumstances. With an impoverished family and a generational economic slavery to the industrial plants, his only escape was the military. Though he served with distinction he was forced to return back to the cog of despair that Galelio had always been to him. With his single mothers withering health he was forced to nurse her while moonlighting at factories and delving into other "unscrupulous' activities as a means of keeping food on the table and cancer out of the house.

It was with the "murder" of his only brother at the hands of an AI that Devitri's life truly changed. Though his brother had been drug running and deserved everything that had happened to him, Devitri's life has never existed around such lofty philosophy. There's only ever been those who are loyal to him and those who are the enemy. Devitri took his revenge with the savage murder of his brother's killer. When taken to trial, the evidence was inconclusive of murder but Devitri's history of drug use, robberies, and countless charges of assault caught up to him. In an unofficial death sentence, he was sentenced to 4 years in a maximum security prison where he was forced to fight for life every waking day. He became a scarred man in more ways than flesh.

During his sentence his mother passed. It was a moment of self-betrayal that haunts Devitri like a shadow.

Having served and survived his prison time in full, Devitri was returned to the streets homeless, penniless, and with a crippling smudge on his permanent record. His only saving grace was the companionship he found in a grotesque, hairless canine he named Mesh. Though often forced to sleep in sewer ways and abandoned structures, he has been able to find occasional work as a bouncer, thug, and street musician.

More than anything, Devitri needs a good restart button to push on life.

Stats:
  • Strength: 6
  • Agility: 5
  • Marksmanship: 7 + 1 (8)
  • Intelligence: 4
  • Courage: 4
  • Survival: 6

Traits:

Trait 1: Prison Scars- During his stent in prison, Devitri got into his fair share of fights. Crude, vicious, and with no semblance of rules or respect. He fights dirty, particularly with weapons of opportunity. Shanks, garrotes, and cudgels could be created anywhere in a seconds notice. Though situations have changed, he still holds this talent and the marks to prove his practice. (Increased ability to create and wield weapons of opportunity in melee combat.)

Trait 2: Companion- Mest: a foul smelling, foul acting canine-like mutt. Devitri has no real idea what the creature is but has no real desire to find out. Mest is Devitri's fiercest of companions and fights, sleeps and eats by his side at all times. Though not the type to be petted by nearly anyone, Mest gains respect for those who prove themselves in combat by his side.

Trait 3: Catch This- Devitri is incredibly talented at throwing, kicking, or otherwise sending an object hurling at a target by direct force. Since enlistment he has always been hungry for the opportunity of breach and clears. Whether this is a knife, grenade, cafeteria tray, or sports ball, Devitri's survival both in and out of prison has pivoted on this talent. (Bonus to marksmanship +1)

Trait 4: Intimidate- To the average citizen of the galaxy, Devitri gives off a distinct feeling of being someone who should not be "fucked with." Though not mentally unhinged, he is fully aware of how to portray himself as such when necessary. In prison, the most animalistic were the one who survived and in that place he saw many, many animals. Most everyone's initial response is to give him distance or to do what he says so that distance can be achieved. (Bonus to intimidate diplomacy checks against NPCs.)

Trait 5: Loyalty- Devitri is a passionate man. He is passionate about his drugs, his booze, his women, and above all else his friends. Those who prove themselves as loyal companions to Devitri will have his eternal bond. Those who betray him will have is unceasing hate. Though not particularly courageous by his own right, Devitri will risk life and limb to save a friend in peril. (Slight, temporary bonus to all stats when making an action to save/assist fellow PC in peril with whom he feels a connection to.)

You're getting the same as Bill Nye above you. Get ready.

#1: Public health care is a thing in this universe. A private health system wouldn't even function. Ergo your character's mother would have just gotten medical care, in a hospital, for that horrible disease she has there. (Minor, possibly Major.)

#2: There is no way in hell that a prison system would be that nightmarish on Galileo. It's an agrarian world. It's in a good condition. An "unofficial death sentence" doesn't last a meagre four years. :ferret: (Minor.)

#3: If he really fucked up his own life so hard that he had a criminal record, no money, and the government just dumped him on the street for some reason, he'd have been offered a temporary job in the military to get back on his feet. (Minor.)

#4: I remember your character in Animus Veritas also being an AI-hating near drug addict. Your character in Kad's RP was a drug addict. All three had dark pasts. Are you a writer for the Batman or something? Don't you know that you can only kill someone's parents so many ways? :rotfl: (Joke--this isn't an issue.)

There are examples of societies that SAY that they have done this, doesn't mean they did. History is biased as all hell, and I will bet you that any example of such a society you could find would in reality have had such people.
No need for philosophical debates in this role play.
Strength: 2/10
Strength scores help determine how fast your character is and how well they deal with firearm recoil. He may have the agility to get between multiple locations and slip through cracks and crevices and the like, but your character won't be very fast at doing it.
Trait 2: Accurate Run; Matthew has practiced quite literally running and gunning and doesn't loose any chance of hitting a foe while running/jumping (+1 Marksmanship)
You'll always have a penalty on firing while moving. It's just the nature of the beast, save in point blank range. :ferret:
Trait 3: Concussion Grenades; An explosive that stuns out any one in it's blast (10ft).
This doesn't need to be a trait and they would be less effective than frag grenades anyway. :ferret:
Trait 4: Lightweight Armour; When Matthew is wearing his Armour he suffers no loss of movement.
Light armour doesn't need to be a trait either, it generally won't affect your ability to do things.

Your weapons also are all outdated by about two hundred years. You can just list INEF equivalent stuff. Like "INEF semi-auto pistol." Et cetera. Remember: KISS it better.
Name: Phillipe Mordante

Species: Human

Ship Survivor or Colonist?: Ship Survivor, INEF-S "Improper Precautions"
Biography:
Phillipe wasn't the brightest of kids, but was determined to to let his parents poor standards and intelligence, but he resolved himself to his education intent on proving that he was not the idiot his father beat him for. And it took him a long while to prove it, once completing his high school education, three years later than most, he moved onto university specialising in nanotechnology, it took him four years longer than his peers to succeed, but when he finally did he was at the top of the class, and sporting the new Supplementary Intelligence.

He dived into the deep end of nanotech science, specifically weaponry applications and defensive options and was soon picked up by the military for his developments in the field. Unlike some self-glorified scientists and pseudo-scientists he kept his name quiet, he kept his achievements humbly satisfied in his own actions for their own achievement needing no public acclaim. At the age of 27 he married one Clarise Devont and built a small family for himself, his wife and three kids however, like his father before him, came second to his work and soon little Martin, Lina and Timothy considered their fathers face almost as strange as any strangers and Clarise filed for divorce when he was only 35, he hasn't seen any of them in person for nearly ten years and feels little regret, while he loved them his work simply always was his first love.

And now he finds himself on the way down in an escape pod to Galileo, his lifes work in the rifle he carries.

Stats: (Your character's stats. You get a total of 32 points to spend, putting you above average for most NPC human peers. Stats are generally broad reaching, and how you describe actions will help determine what stat is used to determine success.)
  • Strength: 3
  • Agility: 6
  • Marksmanship: 5
  • Intelligence: 8 + 2
  • Courage: 6
  • Survival: 4

Traits:

Trait 1: SI Implants (2 Points); The 'Supplementary Intelligence' Implant, a set of neural nanotechnology that serves as a mental supercomputer (as well as a regular computer) this is regulated by what is called a Supplementary Intelligence, a carefully designed AI subroutine that is effectively mirrored from the implantees personality leaving the person, and "ai" unable to tell the difference. (+2 Intelligence, Photographic 'memory'.)
Trait 2: Nanotechnology Specialist; (2 Points) Phillipe is a specialist in nanotechnology, specifically for the weapons technology divisions, as such he has access to, and the knowledge, to do similar things on a standard scale, his nanorifle being the best example of this. Though in order to make things, or other nanotechnology, he has to remove the microforge that powers his rifle.
Trait 3: Old Man; Phillipe is not young, he's not especially well off physically, he's small and not very young, as such others might prioritise other targets instead.

Equipment List:
Lab Coat
Nanorifle (Advanced Weapons Division)
Nanoforge (Required to make Nanorifle work, can be removed to do other nanotech related tasks.)

Approved.
Mathew Taylor is pretty much approaching disabled with that 2 in strength.
That's below average. Keep in mind that human average is 4. Here's some computer generated, average human males for comparison. 2 Strength is weak, but not disabled. This is someone who is either small and thin (ergo a significant weight disadvantage), or someone who is significantly overweight. 0 Would be someone who is wheelchair-bound or similar. :ferret:
Is nuts, moving at all and firing with precision is difficult to do, let alone supposedly losing no accuracy while moving. Also, even "lightweight" armor will slow you down, it's physics.
"Light" armour is typically classified as sacrificing as little mobility as possible whilst still providing maximum protection given its limitations. Even in the modern day (in which body armour technology is limited thus far), we do have different types of body armour. Riot Police wear much heavier armour over more parts of their body than, say, some guy just wearing a simple kevlar vest. Kevlar vests and other light armour of that type very rarely inhibit someone's ability to move around--that's their entire objective. The same applies even to ancient armour: A chain vest was easier to move around in than multiple layers of plate strapped to one's body, but the plate armour provided more protection and thus served a different purpose.

Armour is always playing two arms races: An arms race between mobility versus protection, and an arms race against the very weapons they're attempting to stop. The former is why we nearly always have multiple kinds of armour and uniforms, and the latter is nearly always innovated after a new weapon is introduced to the field. You can also see this in action in military uniforms--they often sacrifice protection on the limbs to maintain flexibility, and the main thing that slows a soldier down is the armour atop all the other equipment they're carrying. What it will do, however, is fatigue its user faster. A 20 pound vest won't stop a person from doing what they can normally do, because the weight is distributed over the majority of the body--but as they get tired, they will feel that extra weight.

The issue is more that firing while on the move is impractical because you can't keep your arms steady to take the shot and brace for recoil while on the move. It only works for, say, a shotgun in close quarters--because you just have to shoot in the general area of the target to hit them with a spray of pellets. Even then, still not as accurate, it's just the difficulty of the shot has been reduced. :ferret:
Especially if you aren't a very strong person, on both of those points, but lets stop picking at this character and instead just let Brovo do his thing. I trust his judgement and it is his roleplay, so let's give the guy a break. XD
Appreciate it. I don't mind y'all giving input at all, just, don't hammer at it too hard.
Volume decreases faster than area. To conceptualize: If you have a 1x1x1 block of air, you will have 1 unit of air. If you have a 2x2x2 block of air, you will have 8 units of air. If you have a 3x3x3 block of air, you will have 27 units of air, and so on. If you shrink someone down, the capacity of their lungs will drop faster than their area, and they will literally die of oxygen deprivation. The heart would also be affect in an equally detrimental way.

It makes for great science fiction, but according to the laws of biology, shrinking or enlarging a design significantly will nearly always end in catastrophic disaster. This is also why spiders back in the age of the dinosaurs were bigger than they are now--there was a higher concentration of oxygen in the air, meaning they could support a larger size without altering the overall size of their lungs. The same applies to why children need to breath faster than adults doing similar tasks--they don't have the lung capacity their adult counterparts do. :ferret:
Is it too late to make a character? D:

Go ahead, you can squeeze one in. The 15 cap is a soft cap--we can go a couple over, considering I know for a fact that we're going to have dropouts anyway, right?
[*]Survival: 7[Trait +1]
I'm not sure where this +1 is coming from. If it's coming from the nanite jacket trait, you can have either or--+1 to survival or the nanite jacket, not both.

Huntmaster Corp Active Hunting Knife
This knife is a fairly basic 10 inch hunting knife.
Most hunters generally don't want a knife that exceeds five inches. That's for big game, too. Just figured you might want to know, it's fine to leave it at ten inches.
Signature: AtomicItalian hereby gives permission to kill him, both heroically or shamefully, without prior consent.

As mentioned earlier in this post, people who aren't yet approved still have up to two weeks after the IC starts to get approved, so don't panic if the IC goes up and you aren't approved yet. If you have any questions, ask. :ferret:

Also, I'm often on instant messenger services. If anyone wants to contact me that way...
Skype: brovo196
Steam: Search for "Brovo" on the "add a friend" button. I'm the Canadian fellow, right over here. (You can also find me by searching "fightforever", and you'll only get three results. Add the Canadian.)

Concerning the "Chinese" thing, I assumed that ethnically Chinese would still exist, but if not that's fine I can change it.

As for the Survival trait, it's coming from the Keen Senses trait. Not sure if that's not allowed or if you just overlooked it.

As for the knife, I changed it to a "Bowie" knife, hope that's more acceptable terminology.

Let me know.

Gods above mate, please remove that highlighting you have on your sheet. It makes it night unreadable.
I don't have any highlighting on my sheet. Unless you're referring to the text colors I used to help differentiate the various traits and pieces of equipment. But I can't possibly see how that's "nigh unreadable" unless you're using a different color layout for the site from the standard black and white.

I do believe he is referring to the fact that all our text is highlighted and it does in fact hurt to read. Like what some child would do when they get their first highlighter in school and they highlight the entire page, that's your post. Not saying your a child just writing mainly because I like to babble. You probably don't realize you did it.

-edit- High five to #Kadaeux for posting at the same time I did.

Concerning the "Chinese" thing, I assumed that ethnically Chinese would still exist, but if not that's fine I can change it.
Personally, I think it's unusual to refer to an ethnicity as the maker of a weapon unless a nation is responsible for its manufacturing. To do so sounds very non-standard, as if it was cobbled together by a singular Chinese man.

Also, yes the highlighting is an issue for me as well. I don't know why it colored itself like that without you being aware of it, but next to the "Text Color" box there is a "[BCOLOR=#3366ff]Select Background Color[/BCOLOR]" box. The difference between using one and the other is significant.

Well I changed the Chinese thing so it's not really an issue.

Is it better now? I selected the white "x" box in background color which I assume means that all highlighting has been removed. Let me know if it's still off for you guys.

I don't know why we have different backgrounds,
At the bottom of the web page, beneath "Forum" and above "About Us" you should see something that probably says "Black Night." It is one of seven different background options, and the coloring of some of them don't agree with each other. If you didn't hit the select background color box, then the coloring error probably happened while copying and pasting (it has happened to me before as well).

Edit: Yes, it's totally clear now.
