Clumsy

Marie glanced over towards Nathan as well and smiled a bit before looking back up to him.

"Ah, I suppose that makes sense now. I mean if I had to come in for business only to have a wonderful party right after, I'd have a hard time saying no to that. Still though, I find it a little strange, especially if the business that had to be done was sad business, like talking about a loss of money or something...It'd certainly be hard to enjoy any kind of party after news of that kind." She commented on lightly.

"Also...I have another question, job related this time. What exactly will I be filing and do you have a preference for file types?"

Damon chuckled and took another sip of wine before answering.

"Losing money is not sad, it's expected. There are three types of news. Good news, neutral news, and news that will be remedied. Bad news doesn't exist in my world, Marie, because I do not let it. If something can be fixed, it is. If something needs to be done, it is. Sadness is an emotion not tied to business. It's much too personal."

He paused to consider her next question, then gave her half a shrug and a crooked grin as his eyes met hers.

"You will be filing papers, with any type of file you want."

"Oh...alright. If you are sure." She said when he said she could file however she liked.

Well then, he would easily have the most organized file system in the whole city. Though she did not seem like it, she could organize well. At least she thought she did anyway. She looked back out over the party as she found herself going silent. Marie couldn't think of anything to say now, mostly because she had run out of questions and she had no idea how to start light conversation with someone like him. She hoped that she wasn't making things awkward by not saying much, she didn't want to do that at all.

"But of course. I have confidence in your skill and am rather hopeless with keeping paperwork organized myself. Once you have worked out a system, you can explain it to me. That will be enough," Damon assured her, then waited for her next question. When it did not come, he took a sip of wine and turned toward her fully.

"We have a few options. You can sit and eat and drink wine here to your heart's desire and ask me as many questions as you like - however, I do not think they will play any more slow songs because they are all drunk or tipsy and enjoy dancing.. inappropriately. The other choice is to go elsewhere and get a real meal instead. Of course, you have the choice of going back home as well," he said, finishing off his wine and setting the empty glass aside.

Marie looked to him as he started to speak, feeling a little flattered that he would allow her to organize as she liked. Hopefully she would do it in a way that he liked as well. At the mentions of a real meal, she blinked a bit and thought about it. In all the excitement of preparing for the evening, she had no eaten most of the day. And though the party snacks all looked lovely, it would take a lot more to fill her stomach. She looked up at him and smiled a bit before speaking.

"You know...A meal would be very nice. I haven't eaten much today. Also, I'd rather not dance in such a mod of people...Especially with most of them having one to many glasses of champagne." She joked a bit before looking over the crowd once more. "Anyway, I wouldn't really know where to go for something to eat so any suggestions would be nice."

Damon smiled and nodded, moving back close to her side and placing his hand against her lower back again to gently guide her around the crowd and back toward the room with the coats and purses. Without a word, the man standing guard vanished and reappeared with her items. Nodding once to the man, Damon took them and held up the jacket for Marie to slip back into.

"I agree with your decision, by the way. Dancing to that sort of music is bad enough without worrying about toppling over a drunk," he said as he handed her the purse, giving her a small grin. He gestured toward the door and walked with her outside, waving Lukas off so that he could open the car door for Marie himself.

"I have many suggestions. First we must decide what sort of cuisine you're in the mood for. Seafood? Steak? Oriental? I have no preference."

Marie let him guide her to the coat room, smiling at him kindly as he held her jacket out for her to slip into. Putting it on quietly, she took her purse and looked up at him, his question making her think a bit. What was she in the mood for? Seafood did sound quite good at the moment. However, oriental did make her think of something as well. Sushi was something she loved but couldn't eat often, it was terribly expensive in the city after all. Still though, she could at least mention it, maybe he knew of a more money wise solution to the issue.

"Well, I have to admit that I'm craving sushi at the moment, so anything seafood would be nice. Of course, don't feel obligated to pay, I can certainly cover myself." She added quickly, seeing as the man seemed determined to treat her to lush and expensive things as if it was normal.

"Actually, that's something we won't need to argue about, because we won't need to pay. I own many restaurants in the city and get my meals for free. Not often, of course. I wouldn't want them to lose money. However, I don't usually dine out and I haven't had sushi in a very long time. You've made an excellent choice, Marie," he said with a smile, sliding in next to her in the car and pulling the door closed behind him.

Lukas got in, again staying away from them and muttering the destination to the driver. Once they were on their way, Damon offered Marie a fresh glass.

"Don't worry - this time it's sparkling cider. I believe we've both had enough wine and don't want to end up like my party guests," he said with a chuckle. "Unless of course you would prefer another glass..? I don't mind in the least if you do."

"Oh, well then...I suppose that really isn't an issue at all. Though, I'd fell bad for not paying, it would be like walking out and not giving a tip...but worse..." She said as she sat there in the car, him moving in next to her.

She relaxed back in her seat as they drove along to the restaurant, accepting the glass of cider that he had given her. She smiled a bit at his words before looking at him and shaking her head. She did not need any more wine, she had more than she would drink amongst friends, there was no way she'd have any more than that!

"No thank you, the cider is fine. I do not plan to stumble into my apartment this evening."

Damon chuckled and nodded, taking a sip of his own cider. It was nicely refreshing, and for a moment he watched the buildings pass by before he looked back at her. He was rather glad that she seemed more relaxed with him alone than she had been at the party. It would be no good if she was anxious around her new boss. Their work relationship would be horribly strained.

"A wise decision. Also, don't feel bad about the paying. They are tipped very generously every time that I receive service, regardless of whether I pay the bill or not," he assured her with a dimpled grin.

"Alright, I shall not feel bad at all...Though I am a bit excited now. I have not had sushi in a very long time. I am very fond of it so this is a very nice treat for me. Thank you." She said softly before sipping her cider. "So...which restaurant will we be going to? I had no idea that you owned any restaurants."

She looked at him curiously, waiting for his replay. After all, he certainly did no seem like such a varied business man. I fact, he seemed more like an oil tycoon, or like a mobster that she originally thought that he had been.

"You're very welcome. The name of the restaurant is Mystique. It's downtown. Originally when they opened, it was going to be a gentlemen's club with Asian cuisine served for those who had appetites for more than women. However, such an establishment was frowned upon by the surrounding businesses, so they changed to a simple sushi bar. Personally, I am glad that they did. The chef is too brilliant to be overshadowed by some dancing girls and men who can't think straight," he explained, then grinned.

"Oh, I own many businesses. Shops and stores of all sorts, restaurants, even a hospital. I think it's safe to say that I am in every field that I possibly can be. I enjoy having a variety and helping people who find themselves.. needing a hand."

He paused and took a sip of his cider, his expression mildly amused.

"Oh! I've heard of that one!" Marie said suddenly. "It's gotten great reviews, though the price also reflects that it is not average sushi bar either. This makes me a little more excited now." She said with a happy grin on her face.

She was a bit excited now, going to such a nice place. She had heard so much and knew that this place certainly would not disappoint her. However, she was surprised that he seemed to own just about everything in this town, save for the city hall and any family owned shops that might have survived the bad economy in recent years.

"So then...what is it that you really are? Just a Business man?" She asked as she looked to him, sipping her own cider quietly as she looked up at him from her seat.

Damon smiled as Marie's obvious excitement when she recognized the name of the restaurant. He nodded as she mentioned reviews and chuckled slightly as she mentioned the price. Oh, yes, the place was undoubtedly expensive, but it had to be. Not only were you paying for top quality sushi and the work of a skilled chef who had been featured in countless magazines and on television, you were also paying for the atmosphere. The privilege of eating around important people, downtown, in an exclusive setting. It all added up.

He gazed at her as she questioned what he really was. Honestly he hadn't expected her to dare and ask - at least not so soon. She was surprising him at every turn. With a smile, he turned his body a bit more toward her and half shrugged after taking a sip of his cider.

"Well, I am certainly a business man. I make millions every day, own thousands of businesses both here in the city and elsewhere. I have more employees than I care to think about and must conduct business daily, like the meeting you just sat in on with a few of my associates," he pointed out, a smile toying around his lips before he spoke again, his voice lower.

"Do you really wish to know what else is there, Miss Marie, or would you prefer to walk blind?"

Marie looked up at him as he spoke, her mind still thinking about the sushi she would soon be eating. She was terribly excited now! She held it in though and gave him her complete attention. He was answering her question after all. He really was something though, making so much money and do so much work. She could not imagine having so much power in her hands, she would not know what to do with it really. She blinked a bit as he asked if she wanted to know everything, making her slightly nervous as to what else there might be hiding behind his work.

"I think...I'll walk blind for now...unless you wish to tell me more, that will but up to you though, Mr. Ricardo." She said simply, taking the safer path.

There was no reason for her to know everything about him at once. He was her boss and was paying her well, questioning his intentions could make it so she could not work for him or even make it where he'll let her go before she could even do any work at all. And that was something that she did not want to happen, especially since she had only just moved into the apartment!

"A wise choice."

He finished off his cider and set the empty glass aside after speaking, having already suspected that she wouldn't want to know the full of it already. Though, honestly, he suspected that she already had an idea of what he would have said if she had pursued the subject. She was not an idiot - there was no way that she had no clue what some of his.. less appealing job details were. Still, it was better this way.

Talking about murder before a meal was never appetizing.

"Here we are, Miss Marie," he said as the limo came to an easy stop outside of the restaurant. He allowed Lukas to get out first this time and come to open his door, knowing that his bodyguard liked to scope out the sidewalk as he did. Once the door was open, he stepped out and offered his arm once again to his date for the evening.

"I hope you enjoy this. It's one of my favorite places to dine," he said, waiting for her to get out and take his arm before gently leading her over to the door and stepping inside.

Marie finished her cider as well as they started to slow down, now having arrived at the restaurant. She smiled as she looked over the front of the restaurant, her eyes sparking a bit with happiness as she watched him get out of the car. Taking his hand she stepped out of the car and looked around, noticing that his bodyguard was looking around the street. Apparently his boss was popular enough to warrant checking out the streets.

"I'm certain I will love it. I am very excited in all honesty, the reviews for this place are amazing." She said with a wide smile as they step inside, her excitement starting to come out as she gave a small skip in the doorway.

Damon smiled and gestured to the place that they had just walked into. It was elegant, classy, and inviting all at the same time. Much had been spent to create an atmosphere to his liking, and the end result was evidently quite pleasing to more than just himself. A massive swirling sculpture of wood and metal all painted a variety of oranges and reds wound through the restaurant, providing several arches to walk under on the way to your seat. Warm wood provided a comfortable feel - all of it custom carved for utmost comfort as there were no cushions on the seats. They were escorted to a small table rather than one of the larger ones in the middle, and seated close to the bar itself so that they could watch the people work and throw knives around like it was nothing.

"So, Miss Marie, how do you rate my restaurant?" he asked with a smile once they had been seated and given the small card-like menu.

Mystique was, in one word, amazing. Especially to look at. It as full of warm and inviting tone and had a gigantic sculpture swirl around the restaurant in such a manner that you'd have to walk under it to continue on to your seat. The place was quite and busy at the same time, the noise level that of class but also of a properly filled restaurant. The sushi bar was also busy and hopping, men working on hundreds of orders and also making quite the show of it. It all just made her giddy with excitement!

So excited in fact that she almost forgot that she had to sit down at her table, standing there a moment to watch the bar with child like wonder in her eyes. When she did sit though, a happy blush in her cheeks, she gave a small giggle and spoke to him with a hushed but contented voice.

"Five stars for looks, though I still need to wait for a rating on the food. Though, I am certain that I shall not be disappointed now that I know it is your restaurant, Mr. Ricardo." She said politely before glancing to the bar again and not giving much notice to the menu. She honestly would not know what to order anyway, being as she had never been to Mystique and not every sushi bar was the same.

"Five stars, hm? I can definitely accept that rating," Damon replied, chuckling quietly. He glanced over the menu card before setting it aside. He didn't really need it since he knew everything that they served and had sampled it all at least once to be sure they weren't serving anything disgusting.

"As far as food goes, you can either order a favorite of yours, or we can try bite-sized portions of everything. I usually go with that option since it's both incredibly filling and delicious," he said with a grin, then glanced up as the waiter came over with a bottle of wine. Nodding, he dismissed the boy after taking the bottle and set it aside. "They always give me wine here, but I personally prefer the sake. Would you care for wine, or perhaps something non-alcoholic instead?"
