I wasn't sure how to take the king's long silence. Was he considering me in a new light? Or was he thinking about tossing me into a dungeon with the culprits? I swallowed and straightened my shoulders a little more as he approached, thankful for Ellie's presence. Then the king offered me his hand. I balked at first, not expecting that in the least, but managed to reach out and grasp his hand in mine for a firm shake.
"You're welcome, sire. I'm only glad that the prince is still safe. It... I... Thank you."
I looked down at Ellie, catching her gaze, and smiled back at her.
