'Why Me..." ((In the title Banner, you'll find the opening theme of the soundtrack for this roleplay, listen to it while you read to set the mood!))

This is New York City, Eastern United States. The year is 2235 and what's left of the world is trying build itself back up after the bloodiest and most terrifying nuclear war of the century. Following a vast socio-economical collapse and a period of martial law, the United States government has had to rely on several megacorporations to survive. This has given them a veritable carte blanche to operate as they will. You will take the roles of the citizens and bigwigs that now belitter the planet, the same kinds of hardscrabble people who previously lacked the street smarts and skills to survive in such a desolate, freakish environment. The game is simple, survive, with much attention being paid to combat, high tech weaponry and cybernetic modification. While both performance enhancing and recreational drug use are at an all time high in the majority of earth's history, both are seen as common place and are very much ordinary things.
The range of characters that you, as the players, can adopt is very diverse, ranging from hardwired mercenaries with psycholinked weapons and boosted reflexes, to Armani-wearing corporate mega-yuppies who make and break national economies with the stroke of a pen. Any persona existing in this strange and broken environment can be yours to command. And your job is to survive, or to be survived upon. To play, or be played.

Biotechnica, an Italian biotechnology, pharmacology, and cybernetics firm.
infocomp, a commercial think-tank and information repository.
Kendachi, a Japanese armament company, More dangerous than some might think.
Militech, American arms and mercenary contractor.
    Petrochem, an energy company
Zetatech, a computer, cyberdeck, robotics, and cybernetics manufacturing company.
WorldSat Communications Network, a satellite communications giant.

Some terms that you will be using in this roleplay

Netrunners: Cybernetic computer hackers, the people who's bodies have been cybernetically modified to such extents as to allow them to become what are essentially human computers.
Fixers: Very simple, these are the Deal makers, smugglers, organizers and information brokers. you go to them when you want to deal under the table.
Nomads:Usually travelling in groups and even mobile towns, there are road warriors and gypsies who roam the highways. These people are the go-to guys for all your out-of-this-world chuck, there's nothing paranormal they don't know.
Privateers: Hardy world faring seamen, out to stab you in the back or to make a good bargain with you. These are the people who are out to pillage and steal, they often run you over in the seven seas, out to get supplies and other goods, as well as money, to sell on the black market back on dry land.
Solos: Hired assassins, bodyguards, killers, soldiers. Making money on the misfortune of others.
Rockerboys: Rebels who use music to fight the power. Partying hard and blasting tunes.

Corpore Metal - A society of full-body cyborgs that use Livemetal technology, where a modular braincase unit is inserted into a variety of purpose-built body frames. (Northeastern united states)
Desnai' - Disneyworld-like series of amusement park arcologies that strive to shelter themselves from the anarchy outside their walls. It is run heavily on automation and uses telepresence-piloted drones for travel, security, maintenance, labor, etc. (Southeastern united states)
Edgerunners - the descendants of the anti-corporation Cyberpunk movement. Integral cyberlimbs are replaced by Neo-Cyber technology, in which detachable articulated frames called "bracers" worn over the body can be modified to perform all the functions of dedicated cybertechnology. (Mostly Europe, some of the eastern states.)
Reef - an undersea community whose members are heavily genetically-modified to adapt and survive in the depths of the ocean. (australia)
Riptide Confederation - a fleet of Japanese floating arcologies that were cut off from their country following a nuclear civil war. They use bio-engineering to make living "tools" to aid them. (Japan)

    Chapter 1: Stormfront
Currently there are two major factions warring for control over the north-eastern U.S.
A large group of netrunners, rebels from Europe whose intent is to take down all established business that has come up as a result of the survivors. Concerning the other side, there aren't any organized counter-movements, but there do remain a few who would protect what they still have, those few would be you.

You as the characters are responsible for chosing one of these sides, or none at all, working to simply survive with what little you have. You play the roles of mercenaries, nomads, and other citizens. Either city dwellers, or the netrunners working on the coast. Eat or be eaten, my friends.
    This is the stormfront.

    Chapter 2: Shockwave

    Chapter 3: The Fall

  8. They call me _Schizophoria_[ONLINE]
But In here, I'm _Eden Taggart_

I've Roamed these streets for _20_ Years
    Here's My Card _Eden_
    I Swing The The _Straight_
I specialize in _Making people wish that they hadn't done what you paid her to punish them for doing._
I work for _ What Eden does is she takes out the people who don't do their jobs, skip out on bail, and 'forget' to pay for their goods, shes a bounty hunter, and a good one. She's got a gun and you'd better hope it's not pointed at you._
My cold steel _CheyTac M200 "Intervention". 33 lb (15 kg) with scope, bipod and a loaded 7-round detachable single stack magazine, effective range up to 2,500 yards (2,300 m), and fires .408 CheyTac or .375 CheyTac rounds at 783 metres per second.
A Browning high power 9mm pistol.
Biotechnica OM-7200 series ocular prosthesis. (Proprietary, military-grade) These eyes are enhanced with a variable HUD and digital zoom capabilities of up to 200x. Making the use of a scope normally obsolete, even so, nothing beats the classics in a pinch.
Biotechnica GM-800 series Brainchip, homebrew. (Particularly illegal, not to mention crazy dangerous) This little number was something Eden originally ripped out of an ex-sniper for a local high-end Fixer ("ex" because he is no longer a sniper, nor alive). Before she got her hands on it, it was a standard Biotechnica model Brainchip, placed on the frontal lobe, used to make you think a little faster. After her modifications, however, it now interfaces with her prosthetic eyes (an easy feat when working with the same brand). It can display information about her brain as well as allow her to access wireless networks. The new chip is also several chips, the original placed on the frontal lobe and two more placed on the occipital lobe. The latter are the illegal ones, not to mention the modifications to the original. These auxiliary chips modify the rate and power at which her senses operate, giving her potentially limitless smell, hearing, sight, etc. This is optional, however, due to it being unreasonably strenuous on her brain, as well as deadly if used for too long. _
Here's how it goes _Eden Taggart wasn't made for dancing, cooking, or raising a family, she was made for fucking people up, and she's good at it. Raised in a single mother's home, she went to a rough school in the middle of the New York ghetto, she learned quickly how to keep herself out of trouble, at least the trouble she didn't want to get into. She's committed multiple felonies, and hasn't once gotten caught, she specializes in seeing everything, but rarely being seen, she's a killer, who works for no individual company, only the one that pays the most money. _
Additives _Miss Taggart is one of those girls who doesn't like to lose, which is why she rarely does. She holds a strong grudge._

  9. Bump for joins.
  10. I count 12 rules, but you say 17. Is that a typo or am I missing something?
  11. Nah. I was just being clever. Gets people to reread and make sure they didn't miss something.
  12. [noparse]They call me _Krag_Jorgensen_[ONLINE]
But In here, I'm _Jack Armitage_
I've Roamed these streets for _35_ Years
    Here's My Card _Jack_
    I Swing To The _Heterosexual_
I specialize in _Jack is skilled at Sushi preparation. He is not a 5th rank kendo practicioner. He has no ties to any organized crime syndicates whatsoever._
I work for _Megumi Sushi, a completely legitimate business that is not a front for the Yamaguchi-gumi Yakuza syndicate_
My cold steel _ Katana, A purely decorative display item kept in its sheath behind the sushi bar on a fine wooden rack. It has not ever been used to kill anyone, nor is it capable of causing harm. The blade is not made from advanced plasteel and does not have a monomolecular edge.

Jack does not own a Sumitomo Type 17 Mk. 2 Smartlinked Assault Rifle. If he were to own such an item it would be kept under lock and key in his home. Under no circumstances would it be within easy reach from behind the sushi bar. It is not stored loaded and is definitely not loaded with HEAP rounds.

Jack owns a Minebea 9mm pistol with requisite permits, but he never carries it on his person at any time.

Zetatech-16 cyberarm (right). Replaced after a bad accident in traffic, it is barely functional enough to allow him the precision that his job demands. It is covered in sythskin to make it look like a real arm. It is not the ZT-25 Mk. 6 milspec cybernetic limb with improved strength and reaction speed.

Zetatech 2015 cybereyes. Replaced after an unfortunate accident, these prosthetics grant him permanent 20/15 vision. They are not Corpsec-grade cybereyes. They do not have the ability to see in the low light or thermographic spectrum. They cannot be synced with a smartlinked firearm (if he even possessed such a thing). And they most definitely cannot record images and video.

Kendachi K87 “Hogo” ballistic vest. New York is a dangerous place, anyone with the money wears some form of ballistic armor. This is the only piece of protective wear he owns. He does not possess Corpsec-grade armor of any kind.

Autographed picture of rock starlet Maria Mercurial. This item is proudly displayed in his restaurant in a very nice frame. There is no hidden safe behind the picture.

Set of chef’s knives. As befitting his legitimate business, Jack possesses a very nice set of knives hand forged in Japan. These knives have all the requisite permits. They have never and will never be used to kill, maim or otherwise injure a human.

MassiveSoft "Avalon" portable computer. A ubiquitous personal computing device, it has no illegal hardware or software on it, it does not contain any black IC, and most definitely has never been used for illegal activity._

Here's how it goes _Born in Seattle to Japanese immigrants, Jack was brought up in the culture of Neonet, a smaller international corporation with dreams of becoming a mega. The "benevolent" corporation dictated much of his life as he was prepped to take place as a cog in the massive machine that was NeoNet. He was rather gifted with computers; he loved to play with the intricacies of source code and virtual reality. Unfortunately (for the corporation), Kato resented the intrusiveness of the company. He frequently acted out, subtly at first, but becoming bolder as he learned more about computers. When he was 15, he was working his way through a database, intending pull a prank when came across a file he had never seen before. He tried to crack the security but was badly injured by biofeedback from a type of computer security he had only read about in magazines: Black IC. He had accidentally tried to access highly classified information that NeoNet did not want to get out.
He found himself in trouble with the law, he became a nobody no ID, no money, and nowhere to go. He managed to impress a very low ranking Yakuza leader, rooting out someone who had embezzled from the syndicate. He was allowed to join the Yamaguchi-gumi when he was 16, hoping to pick up the pieces of his broken life. The Yakuza became his family and he began a new career path, one of crime. Officially he had been taken in to learn how to prepare sushi under a chef. He is now a full-fledged itamae and in charge of his own restaurant, Megumi Sushi._
Additives _ Jack is polite and friendly when on the job, welcoming all customers with a warm “Irasshaimase” and bow. He is deferential to superiors as expected of a man of his station and position. This friendly veneer belies a jaded pragmatist, one who makes no illusions that some of the things he does are wrong.
Theme song_ Kuroi Kizuato No Buruusu _
  13. Ohhhhmygod. I'm okay with that. so much.

    Yakuza guy is totally okay.

gotta head off to work. but I'm gonna give this a proper read when I have my break. Invite ya friends.

I gotta know. did he inherit an accent from his parents, or does he speak both languages properly.

more personality! just for curiosity's sake, you dont have to add it or anything.
  14. I figured that he had plenty of time to become fluent in both languages. I would assume that big, international corporations would have their own schools that taught multi-lingual employees from a young age. That being said, he probably uses a lot of Yakuza-type mannerisms when speaking Japanese.
  15. noicee.
  16. How are megacorporations treated in this world?

Most of my cyberpunk experience comes from Shadowrun, where Megas are basically their own nations. Megacorporate property is beholden to corporate laws, corporate rule, and corporate policing.
  17. Megas aren't nearly as powerful in that sense in this rp. They're more like the only groups who had enough grits and tinder before all hell to actually come out the other end with something profitable. so they provide everything. they secure their place post-apocalypse by offering the things nobody else can and monopolizing on it. Be it guns or tech or whathave you. the world is as it is. there's really no real power at this point. governments have been torn to bits and pieces. and the only real nations are the ones people assume are there. New york for example. its just a massive collection of survivors and their offspring, and corporations who got to that particular area first.
  18. I figured megas would take care of their own, especially when so many of them have such sensitive products.
  19. Not to say there isn't cooperation between them. But across a more broad spectrum, there is a pattern of corporate competition.
  20. No, I meant that megas would take care of their employees. After all, disgruntled drones might leak that new prototype to your competitors
