WHEN FATE AND COINCIDENCE COLLIDE
JANUARY SUNDAY THE 17TH @ 11AM TO 2PM CENTRAL TIME

A special bonus early Sunday ChaRP for those of us that really liked our characters from the Christmas Party of Doom, the Weird New Year Party, OR anyone who really likes this setup and wants to play!

It's January in Paris! A posh private school in New York has shipped out a few of it's students and chaperones to tour a newly discovered catacomb under the famous City of Lights. There is a renowed guest historian help lead the tour for these entitled rich kids, and it's sure to be a lovely afternoon of discovery! ...and horror?!

SPECIAL TASK:
If you post up a character blurb/bio and send me a PM I will give your character a specific goal/task/role in the story to work towards. 8D

EVENT INFO

WHO: Everyone is invited! Character Bios/Pics are not required, but totally encouraged! Post 'em if you got 'em.

WHAT: This is a modern contemporary roleplay that is going to have SPOOKY VIBES! Supernatural content is allow, but it is a "secret" in this universe.

WHEN: JANUARY SUNDAY THE 17TH @ 11AM TO 2PM CENTRAL TIME

WHERE: Join us in the FATE AND COINCIDENCE chat room. You'll find the link to our chats in the CHAT tab when it's time to play.

HOW: This is a SPOOPY ADVENTURE SETTING WITH A COMBO OF PLANNED PLOT AND IMPROVISATIONAL GAME MASTERING. That means special plots things have been planned with players, but the story itself will be improvised based on who shows up and what you do in game! Most of this roleplay will be scary stuff mixed with a problem your characters have to work together to resolve. With this ChaRP "lol random" behaviors are discouraged -- what your character says and does will have in game consequences, so choose wisely!

My roleplays are always NEWBIE FRIENDLY so even if you are terrible at roleplay or have never participated in a ChaRP before, this will be easy for you to get involved in. :D Ask questions, let me know when you need help. I often give tips and direction out of character in the main chat room when people need a little direction.

EASY CHARP TIPS!

Try to show up a good 10 to 15 minutes before the ChaRP is to begin. That way you can read up on any important info, and it makes it easier for your GM to know how to start off the ChaRP when there's a head count.

Don't worry if another player is doing something similar to your idea. DO IT ANYWAY! Similarities and things in common happen in real life too. Everyone also plays differently, so two characters who are both "sweet and shy" will still end up being totally unique people. Two assassins could create a fun and interesting conflict!

Talking to other players about their character before the roleplay is a GREAT way to create connections and background for your own!

Post SHORT AND FAST. Charps are very quick pace and contain a LOT of players. Players can't wait 20 minutes for you to write a wall of text, and if there's too much text they won't be able to read it fast enough and will MISS details. If it takes you longer than two minutes to type your post, you are taking too long and might get lost in the action. This is an exercise in quick and concise writing!

Make sure your character name is mentioned in every post, close to the start of it if possible. This is especially helpful when there's many players, so we know who is playing what character.

Like in Real Life, a character may not be able to acknowledge or notice your character immediately because they are engaged in doing something else. (For example a new character walking in to the room, but the other characters arguing about muffins and do not see them.) Don't get discouraged if you go can't get someone to interact with you right away. Just keep posting and doing actions with your character, or even approach others who also seem to be idle and it WILL happen.

Do not take events in the roleplay personally or assume that bad reactions are because they think you/your character sucks. Everyone is playing a character and reacting to things as their character would!

  • Name: Rosemarie Holtzer
    Age: 17
    Gender: Female
    Occupation: High School Student

Personality: Rosemarie is overly confident, stubborn and sounds like she's always bored or annoyed by something. To say that she acts spoiled like a princess would not be wrong, actually. With her high standards and efforts to be the best, most responsible and organized at everything she does, Rosemarie's demeanor is incredibly nobility-like despite not being from a noble family at all. It also infuriates her when her efforts aren't acknowledged and the girl dislikes any displays of lack of discipline.

On social events, the Holtzer's daughter knows exactly how to carry herself with grace and manners, doing her best to be the most pleasant guest ever, paying the utmost attention to whatever is being said.
Internally, Rosemarie really doesn't want to be there at all and wants no more than to go back home and finally play some games. These kind of events are boring.

    .
The day her father decided to try politics and won was Rosemarie's doomsday.

Robbed of her privacy at an early age, the young Holtzer was quickly thrown into the life of image keeping and paparazzi, coming to learn that once her cuteness factor of being a toddler was gone, the opposition would use her behavior to paint her father in a bad light. The daughter of the mayor couldn't be brash, the daughter of the mayor couldn't be mean or the news people would talk. On her accord and no one else's, Rosemarie took it upon herself to be an exemplary human being, a true princess out of fairytales. Gentle, helpful, the possessor of impeccable manners and grace. She had hoped that the act wouldn't last long, that the bad rumors would stop and everything could go back to normality soon, but that wasn't what happened.
Guilbert Holtzer was re-elected, kept climbing the political hierarchy and even when he wasn't actively a part of politics, had clearly become quite the influential man.

Now stuck on a cage of her own making, Rosemarie was forced to play along, acting on the role for long enough that her original personality started fading away, blending with this character she had constructed. The tomboyish toddler that had once been was overwritten into a charismatic, feminine and properly educated lady. The kind of queen bee that ruled the school by being the epitome of perfection and responsibility. Eventually said 'title' had begun going over her head, the new Rosemarie had high standards, was incredibly demanding and way too confident. But at the same time, nurtured big amounts of frustration and regret, giving birth to a volatile, explosive temper that was becoming harder and harder to keep in check.

That's when she met MMO RPGs. Not having tried a game yet for deeming it too barbaric and a waste of time, Rosemarie had bought a PC game in curiosity. The ad for the game, claiming the experience to be like living as a different person had caught her interest. It was love at first sight and exactly what she needed. In the world of the game, the girl had been free to act as she wanted, using the experience to unwind and release all of the pent-up destructive energy she had been building up! Killing things was fun! Completing quests gave her a sense of accomplishment that her life had long been drained of.

To say that she was hooked would be an understatement.

From there on, Rosemarie would go on to try all sorts of similar games, hopping from a title to the next one the moment the experience got any dull to her. The thrill and the excitement were a must!
With her father now taking the role of Senator, Rosemarie is more than never living a double life: The perfect example of a daughter to the outside world and an unstoppable, insatiable, impulsive player in the gaming world.
Recent Happenings: Having to attend to the Campbell's Christmas party as a stand-in for her very busy dad, Rosemarie found herself making quick acquaintances with the host's son, Jaxob who turns out was just as bored over having to attend as she was. Unfortunately, their conversation in the kitchen and far from any adults so they could act as themselves got interrupted when the lights in the house all went out, plunging the whole group into darkness, enough for somebody to murder the event's host.

Failing to understand that Jaxob had two dads and one them had just been killed in front of them, Rosemarie was mostly unaffected by the events at the start, playing detective with the invitations and guest list but otherwise not making huge progress on the investigations as both the remaining dad and son turned to be extremely unhelpful on the matter. Tensions rose as the murders continued happening, the young lady eventually hitting her limit as it seemed that all of them had just as much risk as being the next-
Or so she had thought as the culprit announced he was letting the survivors escape and everyone that was supposed to be dead had already been dealt with. Such, not good but acceptable news were them subverted by a member of their own group deciding that none of them could make it alive, which was wrongly interpreted as him having been an accomplice the entire time and not just a nut-job.

Things proceeded to get even weirder as Jaxob somehow bent the laws of well, everything and had the dead pin the crazy man down, to which Rosemarie responded with a knife to his chest in desperation for remaining alive. Then everything went back to normal, no one was dead and she was left wondering whether it had actually happened or maybe she had been playing too many games and hallucinated the whole thing. One thing was certain though, maybe she should start carrying a weapon with herself from now on, just in case she needed to defend herself again.

Now her school was making a trip to Paris, which wasn't terrible, but Rosemarie would rather go somewhere not as dirty and perhaps sleep-inducing such as an old historical tunnel... Oh well, image-keeping continues, gotta feign some interest. At least she doesn't have to wear an incredibly impractical dress this time.

    • Names: Nolan Adkins [喜び (Yorokobi)]

Aliases: Nol, Nolly, Nolley, Ad, Kin, Kinny [Kobi, Kobey]

      Gender: Male

      Ages: Sixteen [600+]

      Species: Menreiki

      Profession: Circus Clown

Description: Nolan looks like a blonde, 4' 8'' tall teenager, with blue eyes and an infantile and frail-looking physique that would prompt anyone to think that he's slightly younger than he actually is, or was. That, however, is nothing but a spirit-like projection. His true body consists solely of an Okame Noh mask, that he'll always be 'wearing'. When it is not being worn side-ways on his head, it is guaranteed to be tied on his back and hidden away by clothing.

    • Nolan Adkins had been born prematurely with a weak, fragile health. As if that wasn't bad enough, in the early years of his life, a strong respiratory disease had harmed his lungs to the point that little Nolan had acquired an incurable Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and needed to be constantly plugged to life support to live.

Ever since he was 4, a hospital room had become his world. All he had ever know were from books his parents brought him occasionally, souvenirs from trips, the radio and hospital crew conversations. He never had the opportunity to attend school and make friends but, several relatives came from very far away to visit him every month. They looked happy, they smiled but somewhere deep inside the boy knew they were hurting. That by being there, in such a condition he was hurting them, keeping his loved ones from moving on. At the same time, though he was able to read about the world and look at pictures, it would also bring him immense pain to not be able to see them in person.

At his sixteenth birthday, the teenager had decided that it was enough. Arguing and discussing ensued as Nolan begged at his family to please pull the plug on him. This was not a life worth living and the effort others kept making to pretend everything was fine... It hurt to see them put on happy faces when they were, in fact, miserable and worried. Both he and his relatives needed to move on. Eventually, they obliged, granting him a last wish of singing at his passing instead of crying. His favorite Christmas carol echoed through the hospital halls that afternoon and he felt loved as his short life slipped away without the help of the machines.

But it was not the end.

One of the souvenirs Nolan had received in life was an odd oriental mask, bought from an old man that had been clearing his attic, and hung on the room above the bed. Yorokobi as it called itself, was an Okame mask once used in actual Noh theatre performances, before being stored away in a chest for hundreds of years, forgotten. Longing the warmth of the stage-life again, year after year after year, it had eventually gained a conscience of its own. From the wall in the hospital room, it had watched the boy's struggle attentively, instantly noticing the similarities of both their situations. Nolan, a human with a flawed body, trapped in-between 4 walls to guarantee his survival, and it, the Menreiki dreaming about a life in the outside world that it without a physical form, a way to disguise itself would never be allowed to have... Two tragic beings, stuck in a position they despised.

Maybe that's why when the human had begun to leave the physical realm into the spiritual one, Yorokobi had decided to intervene. A soul calling for another, thinking that this kind of ending was rather... dull. The boy deserved more than that, especially after those lonely nights, feeling like a burden, wondering why he was still there. The wishes of one and the other would overlap, mix, merge. Two became one.

After Nolan's passing, all of his belongings got given and sold away because they were too painful to see. After passing by a couple of hands and storage boxes, the mask had ended up in the display of an antique/souvenir shop where for the first time, unwatched and in an ample space it could roam and begin making sense of the world around him. With no memories from before, Nolan would fiddle with objects and books around the store having to re-learn a lot of things. As such, those were often found moved out of place, or just slightly skewed from their initial positions in the morning, which the owner started attributing to themselves forgetting they had done such thing.

Then one day they left, ready to explore the world outside the store where an unconscious longing for performing would lead Nolan to a travelling-circus. Nowadays, it is his home, both a way to satiate the stage-life itch and a ticket to see the world, including all of the wonderful things on it.

      .

Recent Happenings: Sneaking on a New Years party that he wasn't truly invited for, but so deeply wanted to experience, --because let's be honest who even knows anything about him? Or pretty much everyone in the circus, like come oooon!--, Nolan had a great time going all over the place and looking at everything that was so new and yet also oddly familiar to the duo. Eventually backtracking, remembering that people were supposed to leave gifts by a table, the excitable blonde had taken a while to consider what to give up, leaving a diabolo set and some candy for the hostess before being off on his merry way again, believing that to be an adequate gift because hey, it was one of his favorite objects to fiddle with!

His stop by the fireplace, where they had promptly sat down close to admire it, turned out to be way too nostalgic and pleasant, in turn making the whole of the party just as happiness-inducing as Yorokobi's power had been triggered unknowingly. Such a mishap had ended up calling unnecessary attention to the duo, with Lliira, Fiona Lockwood's niece, apparently being sensitive to magic and realizing something was amiss. Unfortunately, before the pair could find a place private enough for explanations, things were definitely getting weirder than normal. A confirmation from the girl that this wasn't how the parties usually went had Nolan wondering what in the world was actually happening, never coming to learn that 'Billy Dean' was actually a ghost, for the entirety of the event.

The boy's protectiveness of Lliira who didn't seem all that comfortable with her so-called uncle, had him stepping in front of her and raising his pocket horn, playing it in tune with the piano and combating some of the ghost's trippy influence on the party-goers with Kobey's own calming aura. Those that wanted to leave at that point, could do so, with the musical performances keeping the other distracted enough... in between other things. Despite the weirdness, it ended up being a rather fun party at the end and though Nolan never had the chance to say much to Lliira, he at least made sure to tell her goodbye and hoped they'd eventually run into each other again. Maybe then he will be able to explain things to her.

Departing again at the start of the New Year, the traveling circus troupe took off for a Europe tour, the first destination being, you guessed it, France! It had been a while since the duo had performed in the country, Nolan very excited about exploring at night-time again, but a tad upset of having to leave his new friend all the way back in America because of the job... It was such a brief interaction, but such an interesting one too! He'd certainly miss it. It seems there's something new to do in Paris this time though! Something about a tunnel people found? It sounds fun, Nolan is definitely looking forward to that! Yaaay exploration~!!
      .

Personality: Nolan Adkins despite having died at age 16, acts just as a 10-year-old kid would. Due to not knowing much about the world, he is very curious about everyone and everything, often making LOTS of questions to others, that might find such a disruptive habit annoying. He loves nature and sightseeing, even the simplest things like a park or a fountain are enough to wow him. No matter how bad the present might seem, Nolan considers the gift of life precious and special. Living by itself is the greatest joy of the universe.

This boy loves talking and it's an open book when it comes to private or personal questions. It is incredibly easy to befriend him, yet equally easy to make him hate someone. A tiny flicker or cruelty and evil intent are all it takes for the little clown to start avoiding, or outright fearing, someone.

He also seems to own quite an enormous reserve of energy, being one to bounce this and that way, quickly changing subjects or tasks and engaging in interactions with different people. Nolan loves exploring the circus in his free-time, visiting others in their rooms and such just to make casual conversation. If allowed, he would be ecstatic to visit the town in a bit of a tour. Not needing food or feeling physical tiredness anymore helps this a lot.

Nolan deeply enjoys performing. He's longed to return to the stage for centuries and being in front of a crowd fills him with both excitement and a nostalgic feeling of similarity. He was literally created for this!! How could he not love it? The boy also truly dislikes seeing people sad and will try everything in his power to make them feel better. He also considers himself a good judge of emotions given that well, he is the representation of one after all. However, he also believes in anything that is said to him, being one to assume everyone is nice until proven the opposite. He'll often get used and tricked in return, yet, the childish and bright personality hardly wavers.

Being one of a submissive disposition, Nolan has no strength to stand up for himself, alone. That is something that gets worse when added to his constant insecurity about his choices, given that he is never truly 100% sure of a decision he made and will apologize too much to someone if he feels like he has wronged them... What happens with a certain frequency since he is too honest and can sound harsh without meaning it at times.
    • --Skills--

      Making puns;
      Balloon animals;

      Unicycle riding;
      Incredibly light-weight;
      Some super basic juggling;
      Average pocket trumpet playing;

      --Belongings--

      Pocket trumpet;
      Multiple juggling balls;
      A rubber chicken called 'Frida';
      A package of colorful thin balloons;
      A seemingly endless assortment of candy;
Other tricksy party knick-knacks, including a kendama and a yo-yo.

      --Magic--

      Joyful inspiration:
Like its name (and similar to the entity it portrays), Yorokobi can inspire pleasant sensations of happiness, tranquillity and peace to the people around it. The effects depend on the person, to more empathic individuals being prone to receive stronger feelings, but in general, it makes an audience more acceptive of sillier performances and helps angry or stressed individuals to calm down a lot faster. Those sensitive to magic will be able to see a light-yellow mist seemingly leaving the teen's location, whereas normal people won't see a thing change and simply feel happier. It is normally activated on will, during a performance, but an excess of good feelings and intentions has been known to trigger it as well.

Into the shell: Nolan may choose to retract his spirit-like form back into the Noh mask. It's a state where he's left in a sort of standby mode, able to only listen to its surroundings. It's very useful for hiding when whoever he's hiding from doesn't know anything about his true nature and makes it so that Nolan doesn't need much space for himself. In fact, he could live contently inside an items closet for as long as it is not too tight.

Pain immunity: Given that his true form is solely the mask he wears, the spirit-like projection can be stabbed, burnt and everything you have a right to and it will not bleed, react the damage. If anything, akin to a ghost, physical objects he's not actively interacting with will simply go through his shape. If the mask is scratched or broken, however, the opposite then applies. Breaking said vessel in half will surely erase his existence from the earthly plane, forcibly expelling Yorokobi into the spirit realm.

Additional Notes: It is unknown whether the soul residing in the mask (that calls itself Yorokobi, Joy in Japanese) and the soul of the diseased Nolan have merged into a single entity or whether the Youkai had connected with the struggle of the perpetually hospitalized teen so deeply it confused itself. Whichever the truth is, it has undoubtedly taken the identity of Nolan Adkins to itself, truly believing to be, in fact, the teenager. As such, he may use 'we', talk about Kobi in the third-person or use the normal first-person, depending on the context or situation. Physical or ability matters are Yorokobi's and emotional or mental matters are attributed to Nolan.

Has the interesting habit of describing emotions and happenings with the usage of Japanese onomatopoeia, as if their meanings were common sense, which they are not.

Here are both of them again, nesting tabs is a pain and so is trying to hide the spoiler background, but I'm too stubborn to give up ^^'

Name: Richard 'Ricky' White

Age: 26

Looks: He has brown spiked hair, beautiful grayish blue eyes and a very muscular build (due to going to the gym way too much). He is 6'9.
1751.jpg

He often wears a pair of black muscle shirts (to show off his abs, duh) and black jeans along with combat boots to get out of tough jams. He also wears black gloves that are laced to release silver daggers if he is confronted with a tough opponent. He also wears a glass tube with a mermaid tear around his neck .

Personality: Ricky is a horrible human being. He tends to do whatever gets him the most cash. He has virtually no conscience when it comes to dealing with the supernatural ( or pretty much anything) and can be quite cruel and harsh but does so in such a way that you still like him somehow. If you somehow befriend him (the chance of getting hit a comet is more likely), he will be kind to you and let you on his schemes and open up to you.

Theme: (393) monster skillet - YouTube

Extra: Ricky should totally be dead- weird he isn't.

History: Jaxob was a "gift" to his fathers, being "borrn" as a baby to be their "son" and has grown up for the past sixteen years thinking he was normal. ( I mean, don't most kids look exactly their two parents perfectly combined as teens? Nothing weird here)

Name: Valerian Solis
Age: 25

Valerian is a "rogue scholar" of ancient and classical history who has published unconventional theories on the esoteric and mystical beliefs of the ancient world. He also leads tours to mysterious sites such as ancient Egypt, and megalithic sites in Europe, Central, and South America.

He is also a practitioner of the historical European martial arts of the rapier and longsword.

He is insatiably curious, and goes through life with a high-energy "the game is afoot!" attitude.

1610396299217.pngName: Lliira Lockwood (of the Edinburgh Lockwoods)
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Orientation: Heterosexual
Bio:

Lliira's parents are obsessed with Success, both economic and social. So naturally it was a great disappointment when their daughter turned out to be, not a winsome debutante or even a hard-driving would-be executive, but a shy, bookish girl with a nervous stutter, whose taste in books centered on the occult, the arcane, and the strange. Her albinism was only an icing on her cake of...well, let's not say failure, that would affirm the negative, and the first step to Success is a positive mindset!

Unfortunately, no amount of positive affirmations could prevent the prep-school girls from eating Lliira alive. Nor could they prevent her from retreating ever further into her studies and meditations and...shall we say...unusual practices involving wands and candles and chalices and such? Spirituality--yes, we'll call it that, because her mother and father rarely had time to attempt to steer her toward more practical pursuits, and it wasn't as if an owl was going to show up with her invitation to Hogwarts.

The governesses she grew up with couldn't be bothered to help much in that regard. I suppose they might say they weren't paid well enough to truly raise Lliira to become someone who mattered, rather than leaving her to her own devices as long as she was never a behavior problem they had to deal with. Besides, it's not as if a governess could be a proper model of Success now, is it?

And so, while she got nearly perfect grades in school, she never managed to have any friends or be invited to any parties. Instead, as she entered her teens she began using her spare time to study dead languages of all things: Latin, Greek, ancient Egyptian, and Sumerian, so she could read peculiar old texts in the original. For a time, her parents didn't really know what to do except indulge her interests and hope it was just a phase she was going through, one she might perhaps grow out of as soon as she started to become interested in boys. Unfortunately, prep-school boys were at least as nasty to her as prep-school girls if not worse, so Lliira never developed any crushes.
1609208736364.png

Her 16th birthday came and went with no signs of improvement. There was really only one thing her poor mother and father could think of to do: arrange for her to spend some time with her aunt Fiona in America, during the lead-up to Fiona's great New Year's Gala. Everyone who was anyone was going to be there, and surely there could be no one better than Miss Fiona Lockwood to prepare Lliira for her high society debut.

This turned out to be something of a disaster, but for some reason, no one wanted to talk to any of the society page reporters about events at the Gala, and at least Lliira received no blame. In fact, her life went back to something approaching normal, until her prep school arranged a field trip to explore the Paris Catacombs...

Personality:

Lliira is painfully shy, and very quiet. She even moves with an eerily silent grace, so that she seems to appear and disappear like a spirit. When not forced to wear a school uniform, she wears flowing gowns and hooded cloaks (the latter shield her from sunlight, which burns her easily). She has a soft voice with a Scottish accent. All together, it is as if she is an exchange student from Middle Earth.

She always has a book with her, usually some obscure arcane tome, like the Grimoire of Abramelin the Mage, a volume from the Vedas, or a copy of The Corpus Hermeticum or the Enuma Elish with interlinear translation. When she does not expect to encounter other teenagers who might maliciously take it from her, she also carries her journal, a leather-bound book containing mystic diagrams and writings in a cypher based on the Voynich script, along with blank pages remaining to be filled.

Abilities:

Lliira has never told anyone that she can see auras, and feel the presence of magical currents such as ley lines and the delineation around a consecrated space.

Her spell-casting does not always work, but when it does, it results in a synchronicity that provides her what she hoped for, or perhaps something unexpected that turns out to be better in some way. On occasion, she has been able to cause people to not notice her for a time (a challenge, given her distinctive looks), or just leave her alone.

She can see nature spirits, but has had little opportunity to try to interact with them, since anyone seeing her talking to something they couldn't see would surely regard her as insane.

Her Tarot readings can sometimes warn her of trouble ahead, or provide useful insights into herself or others. However, they are always subject to interpretation, so she is not infallible.

From time to time, she may have a dream, vision, or flash of insight, though these are not things she can conjure at will. They too are subject to interpretation, and operate according to the alien logic of the supernatural, so they do not always provide straightforward guidance.

This is a modern setting with supernatural elements and a continuation of two previous roleplays. You don't need to know what happened in the past charps to play! You're most likely a student here on this fieldtrip tour of creepy catacombs in Paris, France.

IMPORTANT: Type FAST, type BRIEF. Too much text cannot be read quickly enough, and if you take too long to write, you'll miss action! Keep posts to 10 sentences and under.

  • Diana:
HOT TIP: Write your character name in the FIRST SENTENCE of each post so we know who you're playing. You can also use bbcode color to help differentiate your posts from others!

A small group of students from three different schools were loitering about as one of the chaperones lectured on about keeping to your teams, not touching anything, and tour safety. They were in a main cavern, at the entrance to the caves of catacombs. Because it was a special student tour, there weren't tons of people and a few researchers would occasionally be seen coming and going from different entry points.

Jaxob loved a good challenge when it came to school trips. He didn’t want to be here but if he was being told to not touch anything, he was going to touch everything. He started with the entrance.

Jasmine was dressed smartly in a simple pair of slacks, a nice sweater and like many American tourists out of the country touring Paris for the first time, a cute little beret. She had a nice camera too! Valerian had already been the victim of many vacation pictures and spontaneous selfies.

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Welcome--to the Gate of Hell!" Valerian said. "No, really, that's what they call it, the Barrière d'Enfer," he said, smiling at the children as he led them inside, and into the long tunnel that led down to the ossuary rooms. The lead chaperone had already introduced him after she completed her 'Don't Touch Anything' lecture. "These underground tunnels and chambers were originally created as mines starting in the Tenth Century, providing much of the Letitian limestone used to build the city of Paris. But in the Eighteenth Century, the cemetaries of Paris were literally overflowing. In fact, there was a rather gruesome collapse of a basement wall near the Holy Innocents cemetary, in which bones of the dead flowed in..." he said, as he began explaining the history of the catacombs.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Lliira followed her giggling classmates in silence. The further she proceeded down into the dank and dimly lit passage, the worse her foreboding became. The historian they'd brought to provide the lecture certainly seemed enthusiastic, even as they reached the first chamber walled with skulls and stacked femur bones.

  • Diana:
Was it strange to fangirl over your own boyfriend? Valerian was an intelligent man with a wonderful way of talking, and it seemed to Jasmine that every week she found some new reason to fall in love with him all over again. Most of the students may not have been paying attention or were just having a lark, but Jasmine found the subject quite interesting! When there was a moment to pause, she'd take a few pictures (without flash of course). Luckily she had long forgotten all the strangeness of the Christmas Party and had written it off as somehow getting a bit tipsy.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Luke had taken a moment to look at the entrance and pull Jaxob back before he touched the entrance of the place. He had been told by both his dads to bring the boy back in one piece and somehow he doubted that meant with a curse. " Somehow, I don't doubt it," he replied, giving Jasmine a smile.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joseph had not been a fan of the French catacombs. His family had a history here. " Well hopefully, no ghosts lurk around." As if asking for it, a ghost of an ancestor slide themselves into his body.

  • Diana:
Jasmine had NO idea why Luke was there, lurking around one of the students, but at present she was trying her best to ignore him. (At least aside from occasionally giving him a suspicious side-eye. Luke could never go anywhere without trouble showing up shortly after.)

  • Zarko Straadi:
Lliira noticed a guy from another class making a point of touching the bones whenever he could get away with it, because of course. He probably thought he was brilliantly clever. What if it's him? she thought. The wall of bones didn't seem big enough to crush a person if it should collapse on them, but then the historian was explaining how they had brought the bones of two million people here from the Holy Innocents cemetery alone. Then she (and apparently only she) saw a shimmer of etheric light flow into the body of one of the other adults who was...maybe a volunteer chaperone or something?

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joe looked over at the girl and approached, tilting his head. " You look like you saw a ghost or something," he replied, in a tone that one could hopefully take as joking. Joe had never been good at jokes, even in life.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Lliira jumped at the sound of an unexpected voice talking to her, and turned to see...well, she wasn't sure, exactly. Her eyes saw a handsome 17 year-old boy, but the aura exuded femininity, and strangely, seemed more like that of a younger child. "Uh..." she stammered, unable to come up with a witty reply and unwilling to admit that she had seen a ghost. "Oh, I though she was a ghost," Natalee Wilshire, one of the girls from her class said, earning snickers from her posse.

Annnd as expected, Rosemarie was bored. Between someone playing guide and reciting the tunnel's history to the extreme opposite of Jaxob trying to touch its walls, a sigh echoed in her mind as for a brief moment she compared the location to a place in the game where she would be having a lot more fun instead. Sadly real life did not imitate art to that extent. Welp, she just had to pretend to be engaged when she had to and hopefully, this would all be over soon, quickly.

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Originally, the bones were simply placed in these catacombs in disorganized fashion," Valerian said, "But starting in 1810, Louis-Étienne Héricart de Thury, Director of the Paris Mine Inspection Service began renovations of the catacombs, and stacked the bones as we see them today, incorporating items from the original cemeteries for decoration. He also created this room to exhibit the skeletal deformities he found," he said as he showed them into the room.

On the other hand, Nolan was lost without even knowing that he was. He had sneaked on with the previous group and gotten too distracted to realize that that group's tour had now been looong done for. He had just been wandering on his own inside the tunnel for a couple of hours, marvelled with everything and wondering when he'd find everybody again. Not that he had a problem with it taking a lot of time, there was no scheduled circus performance today so he was allowed to wander off the tent area. This was fun!

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Sorry..." Lliira said to the person who had talked to her. "I just...have...a b-bad feeling..." Then, to her surprise, she saw a familiar shining aura of merriment, and the young blonde boy to whom it belonged. "N-Nolan?"

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joe didn't really have a witty come back or for that matter know what was the right reaction. Should Joe defend the girl from the mean girls or go with them? What the fuck would this descendant do? The ghost wasn't quite sure and didn't know how to perform a proper response. Luckily for him, he didn't need to. A young man who the mind identified as his cousin Bair came to both their rescues. " And here I thought the mean girl archetype would have died by now. Or do you take pleasure in just being an uttter and complete tool/ bitch?"

  • Diana:
As Jaxob fooled around with touching things that ought not be touched, one of the skulls fell loose from the walls. Shortly after, something made a terrible screeeeeech followed by a rumble that shook the ground, cave walls and ceilings like a small unsettling earthquake! A couple students squealed as a bunch of dirt was dislodged from the ceiling and filled the room with a cloud of dust. ...Nolan too felt this rumble, almost getting clonked by a bunch of rocks as a strange opening in the cavern appeared next to him.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Jaxob looked over at her. " Huh-guess this structure was built on the dead terribly," he replied, looking over and shrugged. What was a boring school trip without some fun?

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Is everyone alright?" Valerian said. The proper thing to do would be to get the kids out safely, much as he wanted to explore the newly-revealed cavern. He turned to one of the chaperones. "Please take roll call, and make sure everyone is safe. Please stay calm, everyone," he said. It was the chaperones' job to wrangle the teenagers; he was just there to explain what they were seeing and answer any questions they might have. A glance back at the new cavern, and he caught a glimpse of stair steps carved into the rock, leading down. Sadly, this trip was sure to be cut short.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Natalee never had a chance for a nasty comeback as the earthquake shook the place, causing her to squeal like a little girl and start coughing. "That's...centuries-old bone dust you're ch-choking on," Lliira said, making her turn green.

  • Diana:
Jasmine pulled off her beret to shake off the dust that had fallen, only proving to give herself a hard cough fit with all that dust in the air. At least from her spot, she didn't see anyone harmed. It was making it much harder to see in the caverns with all that dust in the air though!

  • Loveless:
Weird, the wind suddenly sounded familiar and it was calling his name... With his back turned to the entrance and therefore missing the new group, Nolan had decided to call back at the ceiling as a first instinct: "Lliira??", she should be in a different country, right? What would she be doing all the way in Paris during school time?! But then the tunnel decided to rumble and suddenly he was hopping away towards the room before rocks could do anything! Yes, he could just you know, make them pass through, but there was still the matter of Yorokobi breaking on the impact which would be terrible. "The gakun-gakun, goro-goro is new...", he commented confused. That didn't happen before!

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Jaxob looked to see if Luke was paying attention to him. ( He was not as he had dust in his eyes) and the kid slide his way into the new secret cavern. " I wonder what's in here," he replied.

  • Loveless:
The excitement was welcome, but the dust was really not... Rosemarie frowned tapping her expensive brand clothes back clean as much as possible. Well, be careful with what you ask for and all that? If she knew it was going to result in old dirt thrown everywhere, she might have stopped Jaxob's tampering herself. No point complaining about it now though, she saw the culprit sneak away from the group and decided to do the same, following after him. It meant ditching the history-blabbing one and some of the whining girls, so sign her up.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Valerian checked to make sure that Jasmine was unharmed, slipping an arm around her and pulling her close to make sure she wouldn't get bumped or trampled by teenagers. He turned his flashlight to cast its beam over the kids in hopes of helping the chaperones make sure they were OK. He was momentarily startled by the sight of a girl with bone-white skin in a flowing dress, but then he could see that she was just a normal girl with albinism, and not some apparition. "Wait--" he said to the boy who slipped past and descended into the new cavern. For a moment, he could have sworn that it was the snowball-thrower from that weird New Year's party! "Come on, we'd better get him out of there," he whispered to Jasmine. As much as he wanted her to be safe above ground as soon as possible, leaving her behind to pursue the boy wasn't an option either--and besides, she had more than enough sense of adventure!

  • Zarko Straadi:
Lliira's eyes went wide when she saw people starting to go down into the cave. Before she might have been able to dismiss her foreboding as a reaction to the nature of the place. But now, actual danger had reared its head, and she no longer doubted her feeling: someone here was going to die. She ducked around a corner to evade the chaperones as they started ushering the classes back toward the entrance of the catacombs, then slipped away to follow the others into the cavern. Would they believe her? Probably not, but she had to try. Then she spotted Nolan muttering words she didn't understand. "Are...are you alright?" she asked.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Luke knew that he should have stopped Jaxob more often, but he didn't exactly have the best control. He could swear that sometimes the boy had more control over him then the other way around. And he knew how crazy that sounded too. He groaned as he ran off. " I really really hate this job." He muttered, following after him.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joe would follow the girl and tilt their head. The ghost would look aound trying to consider what would be the best thing to ask. " Do you know this other guy?" Joe asked. That was not the question that the ghost wanted to ask, but it was the one that was settled on.

  • Diana:
"Everyone, please come this way, we're going to do a safety check with the researchers..." the lead chaperone teacher was saying as she verbally herding her group back towards the way they came. Most students dutifully obliged, so she didn't notice the ones still lingering behind. Quite suddenly an even harder rumble shook the caverns so hard that nearly everyone lost their footing. Jaxob, followed by Rosemarie went tumbling down the odd steps with Valerian and Jasmine shortly behind them -- and Luke as well, trying to catch up to Jaxob. Lliira, Nolan and Joe felt the floor disappear beneath them and fell, fell, fell, until they landed in a shallow pool of water.

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Curious..." Valerian said, noticing painted images of animals surrounding the image of a person sitting cross-legged, with deer antlers spreading up from their head, just before another earthquake sent him, Jasmine, and the teenagers they were pursuing tumbling down the steps. He got up quickly, helped Jasmine to her feet. The two interloping teenagers seemed unharmed, but then he heard three splashes followed by echoing voices, announcing that some others had fallen into this cave system as well.

  • Loveless:
Wow, it really was her! "I'm okay!", Nolan had quickly reassured his friend, ohhh he was just so so happy to see her again!, "A couple rocks tried to get us, but it wasn't that hard to jump away~ ...This looks really dangerous though." And just as he had said that, suddenly the floor was gone as if a snapped tightrope! Startled, Nolan's reaction after a bit of screaming had been to retract his form into the mask, it sparkling as if covered in glitter for a while as he grew more and more see-through until he was nowhere to be seen. Being a mask, the object had very little weight and acted a bit like a parachute, dampening the pair's fall until it splashed on the water. Absolutely safe.

  • Diana:
This wasn't quite the romantic, history-filled vacation Jasmine had been imagining when Valerian had asked her on the trip, but it was definitely an adventure! "Are you alright?" she asked him, before having another dust filled coughing fit into the back of her hand. Remember she still had her camera (and really not wanting to break something so expensive) she turned it on and flipped quickly thru the pics to make sure it still worked. She sucked in a sudden breath when she stopped on one of the pictures. Behind him, almost like a shadow, stood a huge ominous looking figure. It almost looked like it had horns! But the lighting in the picture was so dark, it could've anyone really...

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joe cursed a lot, as the floor disappeared and needed to think fast. The ghost would be fine, death would do that to you, but the body Joe was in would be toadt. Thankfully, some quick thinking reminded the ghost to channel their power and float down into the pool. " That could have been very bad if we were normal kids."

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Jaxob would take a moment to regain himself as he would look around and he turned to Rosemarie. " We really needed to stop falling into each other like this. People might talk," he replied.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Luke would get himself up. " Really starting to hate this kid."

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Yes, I met him at--" Lliira said softly, but then the ground beneath her feet shook--and fell away! She sucked in a gasp, then she was splashing into cold water white with dissolved limestone. She found her feet and stumbled off of the broken stones to smooth cavern floor, wading waist-deep in the water. "Nolan?!" she said. The boy had vanished, leaving only a pale mask that fluttered down into the water like a leaf. It had a peculiar glow about it. She quickly grabbed it out of the water--it looked Japanese, and was probably valuable. That's when she remembered Nolan's last mutterings--which also sounded Japanese. As she touched the mask, she could feel his presence more strongly than she'd ever experienced psychometry before. The mask had to be important to him, so she was determined to keep it safe. But of Nolan himself, there was no trace!

  • Loveless:
...Flirting was not what Rosemarie had expected at the end of this tumbly bumpy ride. She could only stare back a Jaxob with a face of 'really?', unbelieving of the other's sense of timing. Instead, she tried to get herself back up, stumbling a bit. None of her clothing said 'prepared for a fall' and it showed, surely there were a couple bruises in places now justifying by the ache of pain. Amazing. "What in the world did you get us into, Romeo?" If only it wasn't a school trip, she could sneaked some sort of weapon this time... Why was it that Jaxob was always in the middle of strange happenings?

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Well now..." Valerian said, awe in his voice as he panned his flashlight around the gallery in which he found himself. The walls were made of massive granite stones, mica sparkling like stars in the beam of his flashlight. The ceiling above him was also made of rough-hewn granite megaliths, reminiscent of the ancient dolmens and passage tombs found across northern Europe. But then he heard a girl cry out someone's name, and hurried in the direction of her voice, towing Jasmine along; since he was the only one with a flashlight so far, he didn't want to leave her alone in the dark. Through a corridor, they entered another chamber, this one of natural limestone, probably the original cave entrance. The girl was holding a mask (!) up to keep it dry while she fished through the milky-white water with her other hand. "Is someone missing?"

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Jaxob had never been known for his timing. As in, he always knew how to say the right thing in the wrong moment or the wrong thing in the right moment. Still, there was the rare moment that he managed to be smooth as his dad or even how Luke acted. He took a moment to considered his option. " Well, dear Juliet, I believe that my touching of the skulls cause several earthquakes that opened a passageway and probably found a dozen or so bobby traps, places like these often have those. " He replied.

  • Diana:
The dust had (mostly) settled by now, a rhythmic thumping- no, a chanting could be heard somewhere down the maze of caves. The musty smell of dirt and old bones had been replaced by something smokey and herbal. For aura sensitive folk a sensation of dread tingled up their spine.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Luke considered his options and decided that Jaxob was fine and decided to follow the chanting for now.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joe looked over at the adults, then back at the new friends that had been made. " Well, that's either something really good or really bad that has happened."

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Ricky had heard everything, mostly because the caves fucking echoed. He had been purposefully looking for the secrets and trying to find his next target ( Why the fuck was everyone so goddamn vague now?) . Hmmm... perhaps the chanting would lead him somewhere.

  • Diana:
Jasmine was going to show Valerian the odd picture in her digital camera, but between all the dust and now the strange smokey smell, it had her stomach feeling a bit upside down and her head woozy. The air just felt too thick for her to breathe. She kept that to herself, though, as the last thing anyone needed right now for her to be wispy and ill!

  • Loveless:
"Are we safe now?", the question rang through an unseen white-space, Kobey's realm, where time, space, ideas and emotions did not make sense anymore. It was welcoming, reassuring, like the warmth of an embrace with the protection of a parent. The reply was unsaid and yet heard, no damage taken, both of the entities were still pretty much intact despite the huge scare one of them had felt. The other 'voice' was a lot more mature and a lot more placid. As much as he would have liked to stay time still ticked outside and people would be both confused and worried... Something else affected their space, it prompted the younger one to want to remain hidden, let the danger pass. But that'd be irresponsible, it's what the other seemed to say and he understood that leaving others to deal with it alone was rather cruel of a thought. And so he headed back into the mundane world...

  • Loveless:
The effect was the opposite as the retraction, the mask seemed to rattle a bit getting surrounded by sparkles in the air where Nolan's image would once more slowly fade back in, the right side of his head effectively attached to the object like some sort of hat. Due to the way it was being held, he ended up half in the air, turned side-ways, strangely upright and not bending towards the ground as one would expect. "Uhhhh, d-do you mind slowly putting us back down?", he requested a little sheepishly, seem like the explanation train was out of the station!

  • Diana:
Both Luke and Ricky found their way into a huge open cavern - from opposite ends. Built out of giant granite blocks with walls stained red, it seemed reminiscent of old ancient temples... or sacrificial rites. Because setup in the center of the room was the petrified form of a big oak tree, dressed up twine and vines, dangling bone ornaments, and most shockingly, Joseph's elder cousin, Bair. Having been separated from the group earlier, he was tied and bound to the old wood tree, covered in what looked like a gallon of blood and some sort of sticky black substance. A deer's skull with stark white antlers sat on his head along with a flower crown of poppies. He didn't seem to be conscious.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Lliira felt around in the water with her hand and her feet, but she couldn't find Nolan anywhere! Tears started streaming down her face. "Nolan?" The sound of the chanting and the grim feelings it brought chilled her even more than the cold water, but worst by far was the possibility that the one person here that she could call a friend seemed to be either dead or drowning. She couldn't spot any bubbles coming to the surface, so she moved back toward the rock fall that had brought them down here, and started searching the broken pieces under the water. If Nolan was trapped under one of them, she had to find him quickly! Please Nolan, be alright! she thought. The Professor said something, but she couldn't hear him over the recriminations in her own head. Suddenly, she heard his voice behind her! She stood up rapidly and spun around, swinging the mask behind her as she did so. No Nolan, only the astonished looks of the Professor and the pretty lady with him. "He's...the mask..." the Professor said.

  • Loveless:
That he had dared to reply on a similar level came like a mix of outrage and challenge to Rosemarie, who had a shocked expression as if having just eaten something sour before letting out a confident and snobbish grin. "Right.", it's what she had actually said when her deep blue gaze seemed to angrily ask 'then why the fuck did you do that?!'. She let the stare 'burn' in place for a while before, regaining her composure, "Well, It seems forward is the only way now.", and she stepped away crossing in front of him on purpose and towards where Luke had left. The surprise in the room though? Was not good. She glanced at the bone decorations, apparently not to disturbed about them, anything in there that resembled a cutting object?

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Ricky would run into someone who should have been dead. He was about to say something when Rosemarie and Jaxob walked in. He debated his next words carefully.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Jaxob shot a glare at Ricky. Of course he was here. " Somehow I doubt that the person setting this up wants us to have tea and crumpets." He, having no idea of how to act sometimes would take a moment to touch Bair and taste what was mixed with the blood.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
    Luke face palmed.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Lliira turned, and blinked in surprise--but not quite as much surprise as Valerian wore. She carefully set Nolan on his feet and let go of the mask. "You're...you're alright?" Lliira did not know about the Japanese tales of spirit-infused objects, but she was fully familiar with the idea of totems and statues being enchanted with spirit.

  • Diana:
Odd that no one else was in the cavern with the strung up Bair - probably because they'd moved to circle around the ones still standing in the water cave. Strangers dressed in deep red robes, no faces to be seen, but pointy antlers sticking out from other their hoods, were now stood all around Lliira, Nolan, Joe, Valerian and Jasmine. None of them uttered a single word, even as they suddenly rushed forward at the group.

  • Diana:
Jaxob might've tasted pure evil, as the black stuff was vomit-inducing gross.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joe stared for a moment and did a quick punch at one of the rushing guys.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Jaxob would look over at Ricky. " Reminds me a bit of you, vomit inducing, gross and evil." He looked to see if he could untie him.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
" No idea what you're talking about," Ricky replied.

  • Zarko Straadi:
"More things in Heaven and Earth!" Valerian said enthusiastically to the boy who had emerged from the mask. But there was no time to enjoy the wonder, for he, Jasmine, and the youngsters found themselves surrounded by menacing cultists! Suddenly regretting the absence of his sword-cane, he had no choice but to use his flashlight instead. He shined its bright LED beam into the face of the nearest cultist, then snapped his wrist to swing the steel handle at the side of the cultist's head.

Nolan was just so... embarrassed?? Lliira was one thing, since she definitely had some sort of experience with the supernatural, but the others too???! He went absolutely red as the girl slowly put them back on their feet, it didn't feel any warmer and there was no heartbeat to speed up but the idea was pretty much the same. "Yeeeeaaaah, that's always, really complicated to explain...", the blonde tried to not make too much eye contact with the extras, instead focusing back on the girl if only to alleviate the whim to go hide back into Kobey's realm. "Well, that absolutely scared the heck out of me!! But other than that we're ok- Uhh, what's up with those guys?", he pointed at the weird circle of robes, taking a step back with apprehension. He had a bad feeling, in fact, for once both of them had a bad feeling which just made it worse.

  • Loveless:
As Rosemarie looked around to find anything similar to a knife, Jaxob's action had immediately made her lose any sort of focus to instantly yell, "What the fuck do you think you're doing??!!!" and promptly step closer to slap his arm away from the... foul awful looking substance that made her stomach churn a bit as she imagined the horrible taste, urgh.

  • Diana:
Thought the cultists didn't seem to feel a punch or a clobber to the head, they were definitely solid underneath those robes. Valerian found himself dogpiled under a pair of cultists, while with Joe and Nolan they seemed hesitant to tackle. Jasmine, strangly did not seem to react to anything at all, as if she were in a trance. Not even a squeek of fear when a cultist scooped her up off her feet and escaped down one of the caves. Then there was Lliira. For Lliira the tallest of the cultist's simply held out it's black gloved hand, offering her to take it.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Jaxob looked over at Rosemarie. " I was trying to figure out what this substance was on him, though I can tell you that it was a bad idea," he replied, looking over at her before he caught Luke out of the corner of his ear, pull a switch and cut the ropes.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Ricky had to wonder things, but chose silence.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joe would turn to Lliira and Nolan. " So this is weird right?"

  • Loveless:
"H-hey, where are you taking them??!", Nolan demanded to know, ready to step in front of Lliira yet again if he had to. He'd have considered tackling the robbed person if that wasn't a moot point when you weighed the same as a plate.

  • Zarko Straadi:
"No, I understand!" Lliira said, feeling relief and joy wash over her. "The ancient Egyptians called their gods into their statues, and they made Ushabti figures that--" She was interrupted by the sight of hooded cultists surrounding them, then charging. They attacked the Professor and abducted his girlfriend--then one of the, presumably the leader, came to her and extended his hand, the classic 'Come, join me and I will show you the ways of the Dark Side' gesture. "What do you want?"

  • Diana:
The good news was that Bair was alive. The bad news... a few of the cultists, one now having an unconscious Jasmine in arms, had re-entered the ritual cavern. Though their faces were completely hidden, it was clear that their ritual was being interrupted by Jaxob and Company and they weren't too happy about that. An odd guttural chanting began and a strange sickly sweet smell filled the air.

  • Diana:
The cultist with an offering hand towards Lliira merely tilted it's head to the side. Silence. But Llirra could feel it again, that sense of dread, heavy impending doom and death. So thick that it was oppressive. Will she accept or will she turn away.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joe understood that their descendant liked Bair and for that matter the cultist needed to sacrifice someone for whatever they needed. " Wait, wait, if you just need a human sacrifice, I assume that it would help to use a naturally evil person. And you like Lliira which is confusing, but there was this mean girl defending her, could you I don't know- use her instead?"

  • Loveless:
"Of course that putting the weird black and red liquid on the middle of a tunnel made of skeletons was a bad idea.", Rosemarie drove the point with a mix frustration and that 'I told you so' sort of tone. At least someone else actually had a knife to cut the ropes, that was the good news. The bad news was that they were now surrounded and then a weird smell was suddenly in the air. Rosemarie's gamer instincts flashed, and though she had no gas mask or protection charms in the real world, she still had her sleeves to cover her nose and mouth with. Her free arm waved around pointing at what she was doing, telling others to do the same.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Thankfully, Valerian knew some grappling techniques from Bartitsu, and Sigmund Ringeck's Renaissance-era combat manuals, but the cultists were overwhelming him with numbers and strength. "JASMINE!" he cried as they took her away, but she didn't seem to hear him. Now he was fighting with utter ruthlessness; again using the flashlight to blind an enemy, he snapped his hand palm-up and thrust his index and middle fingers into his eye sockets, curling the fingers to grab his skull like a bowling ball and pull his head forward as he brought the flashlight down, to increase the force of impact.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
For some unknown reason, Jaxob just tilted his head and observed the cultist, taking in the details that were making them immune and copying them.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Ricky stared at the kid. He knew that there had been something up with him at the Christmas party. Something weird and he hadn't brought that whole necromancy thing at all. It had felt too good, too easy. Now he understand what the kid was. He was a doppelganger, but not a traditional one. He was one who could imitate powers and mannerisms. It was why he felt so generic, like every teen in any high school. He was just imitating them. He could no more feel than the mermaid Ricky had killed for her tears.

  • Loveless:
"Wait, we're killing a person?!", Nolan let out horrified, even if it was a bad kind of person, he didn't think that he could simply stand and watch it happen... But then again, he also wasn't sure if there was anything that they could do to get out of this mess. He sighed, not knowing what to do, uncomfortable with the idea.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Lliira didn't know any combat techniques, so her reflexes defaulted to fighting the force of spiritual oppression she felt instead. Focusing her attention, she drew in a deep breath as she brought her hands up in front of her forehead, forming a triangle with her fingers as the sides and thumbs as the base. Pouring invisible energy into the triangle from her third-eye chakra, she pushed her hands forcefully toward the cultist, then spread her hands out to unleash the energy in a wave; a banishing technique meant for use against hostile spirits or concrescences of energy. She had no idea if it would do any good at all in her current situation; it was just all she had.

  • Diana:
Valerian successfully proved the cultists were in fact, only human, for in his desperate struggled, the skull & antlers hood had fallen loose and with it gone, a very human man got knocked out cold. With that revealed, and Lliira's psychic attack blatantly refusing their offer - one of the cultists blew on a ram's horn to signal the others in the ritual room. The cultist that was about to charge at Jaxob paused mid step. A glove hand pointed at Bair, signaling a group of three to charge at Luke to recapture the unconscious boy.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Valerian grabbed the fallen skull and antlers--it would make a perfectly good weapon, and had more reach than his flashlight. Since there was enough light to see by, he dropped the flashlight, grabbed the bases of the antlers, and twisted to steer aside a blow from another cultist with one antler, then thrust at his face with the other.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Ricky had to test a theory. The cultist wanted the boy back. That much was obvious even to him, but it seemed that the boy looked human. But considering how he was covered as Jaxob had described it, blood and evil, he had to wonder if they had put something in him. And the thing- whatever it was- needed to be controlled and protected. He would silently move towards the boy and without even blinking would lower a silenced pistol to his head and shot.

  • Loveless:
Nolan didn't expect Lliira to know all that stuff! He didn't understand it one bit, but it looked cool and explained what kind of relationship the girl had with the supernatural. "Wow! I didn't know you could do that~!!", he raised his arms up high in cheering, momentarily forgetting their situation, "That was amazing!"

  • Loveless:
Rosemarie didn't know what she could do. With her sleeves against her face there was very few that could even be done, come on she didn't even have a weapon! She had considered to just lean against the wall and stay out of the way of the others when- Someone very familiar was doing something equally as familiar. In the spur of the moment, the teen hadn't really recognized Ricky, but she had the situation, a situation that she was positioned right next to. "Noooo!!", she didn't even know why, there had been so little time to think but there she was, tackling the man with a gun, suddenly mentally back in the Christmas party but that the opposite side of the scene. She didn't even know what was real and not real from back then.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Lliira's defense didn't seem to do much except make the cultists change their plans. The Professor was fighting with a degree of ferocity she never would have expected. "Your mist..." she said in a low voice for Nolan's...well, technically he didn't have ears...only. "Please use it." If anything could banish the force of dread the cultists were using, Nolan's golden mist would be it. And maybe, if they felt the energies of their "consecration" of their ritual space being driven away, they would be unable to do whatever they had planned.

  • Diana:
All of the cultists in the ritual room froze in place. Ricky's shot went off, but Rosemarie's interference sent the bullet ricocheting in the old tomb. The earth shaking rumbling began, dust and rocks falling everywhere! The cultists abandoned Bair, but they still trying to escape with an unconscious Jasmine. Valerian managed to chase off those in the water cavern... except the one that lingered at the mouth of the cave. It still there and Lliira could feel them staring from beneath their creepy skull mask. It was a last chance for her to choose. Stay there - or leave with the cultists.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joe took a moment to consider the options and then decided to do something. The ghost dropped the body of her descendent, the boy falling over ( alive and unconcious like his cousin) and would charge a cultist, using the power to take his body and rescue Jasmine. Luke took his switch and with some experitse precision would throw it to nail one of the fleeing cultist ( different from the one Joe possessed in the head). Jaxob considered his options and for a moment, his eyes glowed electric blow and would grab the cultists,, pulling them back with his mind, copying something his other dad could do. Ricky glared at Rosemarie. Bair was still unconcious.

  • Loveless:
Lliira's suggestion had taken Nolan by surprise, he had hardly seen Kobey's power separated from its use in performing or calming people and to suddenly have it thought of as some sort of 'weapon' was a rather new and unexpected development. He had frozen for a moment before understanding the request, reaching for the pocket to pull out his instrument before the tunnel decided to go all gakun-gakun sending rocks goro-goro once more. Instead, he had immediately taken Lliira by the hand and attempted his best to bring her with him as they dodged falling stone after falling stone. "Ahhh it's doing it again!", he left out panicked.

  • Diana:
The spirit Joe's possession of the cultist somehow gave them insight on the chaotic and evil weirdness in their minds. Joe was bombarded with images of sacrificial rites, plans of destruction and the resurrections of an ancient evil. It was so intense, it made it almost impossible for Joe to remain in that body. The body dropped Jasmine, struggling to take re-control of itself.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Lliira stared right back at the cultist with a stony expression. Two could play at the silent-treatment game! Then there was a quake, and Nolan grabbed her hand to start pulling her away. But then a girl-spirit left the other boy, and he slumped into the water. "Wait, we have to--" she said, pulling the other way so she could grab the boy, keep his head above water, and try to drag him to safety as Nolan pulled her away.

  • Loveless:
Rosemarie wasn't happy to be covered in dirt again, but it wasn't an annoyance greater than her relief in having saved Jaxob from- Oh, it's that guy again. As Ricky glared at her, she took no time in returning it back to the sender. "This is your fault for being murder-happy.", the girl let out with a 'huff'. She was right!

  • Loveless:
Nolan momentarily 'flew' as Lliira suddenly pulled them the other way not needing any strength at all to accomplish the task. He seemed pretty chill about it too, just letting out a little 'oh, okay!' in return as they were now helping a passed out older boy. What an adventure this was being. Sadly he couldn't help dragging anybody, it was the kind of effort that would mercilessly snap them in two if they attempted it. Like picking somebody up by using a freaking plate as support.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Ricky took a moment to consider his options before he would finally reply. " Don't you find it a little, I don't know strange, that the guy covered in blood and evil as your boyfriend called it was tied up and held to an altar? I'm just saying, normal people wouldn't have survived that. And he looks pretty human."

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joe looked over at Ricky. " He might be right, he did.... oh, I'm going to regret doing this," the ghost replied, going over to the unconcious Bair and sliding their self into his body.

  • Zarko Straadi:
For a moment, Valerian hesitated, still holding the deer skull he had weaponized. The cult leader was still there to be a threat to the teens, but the others had Jasmine! He had no idea what supernatural abilities the boy-in-the-mask might have, but at the moment, the teens seemed safer than Jasmine, so he turned and ran after the ones who had taken her. Entering the ritual chamber, he was rather surprised to see the towering figure of Captain Quickie there. But he wasn't the priority. Taking his improvised weapon with both hands gripping just below the final branch of its antler, he swung the other antler at the cultist next to Jasmine. With what he was seeing in this room, the cultists would receive no mercy.

  • Diana:
Joe may have let go of that cultist too soon. Once he had control of his body proper and realized the ancient caverns were rumbling and ready for collapse, he made a desperate attempt to appease the rituals and was going to lean down and kill the girl! But luck was in Jasmine's favor, as Valerian's antler weapon cracked against the cultist's skull and sent him sprawling out onto the tomb floor. Rocks were starting the slide loose from the ceiling and walls. Everyone needed to get out of risk being crushed to death!

  • Loveless:
Rosemarie had no reply for a moment, obviously conflicted with his words. "But- But..." Could she really say she had any right to stand morally for anything? She did so much worse than that in video games... Was the line really that thick? "I saw you kill someone before, maybe- I didn't want to let you do it again!" And she had been so distracted with this dilemma that there was no focus or time left to attempt dodging anywhere, at least not on her own.

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Jasmine!" Valerian said, crouching next to her. He quickly checked her for wounds while taking hold of her wrist to feel for a pulse.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joe hadn't gotten a chance to slide into Bair's body and looked back and forth, realizing that this twink definitely couldn't carry his cousin or neither could the other one. " Hey, leather jacket, could you carry one of the unconcious guys? The younger one." Luke nodded, picking up Joseph and going for the exit as fast as he could. Joe slide into Bair's body and would make a beeline.

  • Loveless:
"We need to find a way out and fast!", Nolan urged them, without having any idea of where to start from when they were such a way down. At least having no weight was an advantage to mobility and whenever rocks weren't clearly aiming for his head, they simply passed through him naturally since he was technically not there. That gave them some time, hopefully, it would be enough?

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
" I would love to continue this argument, perhaps later, once we are out of this falling cave?" He asked, and without much hesitation, would proceed to attempt to lift her and get out of the cave before it went down.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Jaxob looked over at Valerian. " I know you want to make sure she is okay, but the whole place is collasping, so maybe carry her out," he replied, using some of his powers to hold the debris.

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Uh..." Lliira said as another quake began, threatening to collapse the whole Catacomb on top of them. She crouched down and wrapped one of Joe's arms around her shoulder and held it with one hand while she used her other arm to grab his belt and try to pull him up so she could carry-drag him out.

  • Diana:
Jasmine came to, thankfully unhurt but was still coughing, disoriented, and didn't seem to understand what was going on around them. "I'm- I'm sorry," she mumbled through a cough and blinking in confusion at Valerian. "I couldn't breathe for a minute there... It's so stuffy in here, Val..."

  • Loveless:
Rosemarie was equally parts outraged and shocked, and taken aback and grateful. It was a really weird mix of emotions to be feeling, but as the murderer she had maybe killed once, --wow that was weird-- had said, survival came first and the cave was collapsing. For once there were no witty replies or sass to be had, just a single weak nod.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Valerian shook his head to shake off Jasmine's apology as unnecessary as he helped her to her feet. "Come on, we have to get out of here! There's kids in the other room!" With one arm around Jasmine's waist to help her keep her feet, he held the deer skull by an antler in the other, just in case this horror scene wasn't over yet. He hurried back toward the other chamber to make sure the rest of the children would be safe.

  • Loveless:
Nolan took no time in following after Lliira, hopping this and that way to dodge potentially dangerous rocks as well as shouting them directions whenever he thought they could be helpful. Lliira was busy with the passed out one, so retracting his form to occupy less space was out of question this time.

  • Diana:
With Lliira and Nolan leading the way, (and a little bit of them being forced to go a certain way thanks to collapsing paths), the strange ancient walls soon gave way to the more familiar hallways filled with the researcher's gear, tourist ropes, and strings of modern lights. The other snarky teens, leather jacket Luke, and Ricky the Jerk narrowly escaped being crushed as the ritual caverns closed up behind them. Once the rumbling stopped and the dust has settling, it seemed the danger in the catacombs had finally passed.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Ricky never did figure out who to kill, probably a prank contact. Whatever, he didn't care.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Jaxob had made sure to touch everything as he was escaping and also move fast, looking and touching the tourist rope for fun. " Sorry for ruining the tour, but that was fun."

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joe the ghost slide out of Bair's body. " Hey, that was fun, but I got to go, can't really leave here anyway."

  • Diana:
Once they seemed to be out of the dangerous part of the catacombs and Jasmine could feel that soft draft of fresh air, her head felt a little less cloudy. As far as she could understand, there must've been an earthquake and a cave in. Everyone seemed to be okay except for one kid covered in gooey black stuff - and for some reason that gave Jasmine a chill down her spine. She touched her shoulder to make sure she still had her camera around her neck (thank goodness she did, that thing cost her half a paycheck), and then she tugged gentle on Valerian's shirt. "Are you okay? I am so sorry!"

  • Loveless:
"Hurray, we're safe!", Nolan let out with his arms in the air in celebration, "That was really scary!! You guys really shouldn't have opened thing jeeeez~", he pouted for a moment crossing his arms, before looking back and towards Lliira, "Are you okay? Are they okay? I'd have been so upset if something had happened to anybody...", his voice shook with emotion, he'd really be devastated.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Luke shrugged. " You know, I think I will just take the weirdness at face value and let it go."

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Joseph woke up and looked around. " What happened? I remember being outside.... and now not much."

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Yes, I'm fine," Valerian said. He'd lost the deer skull somewhere back there, which was probably for the best. "What are you apologizing for? I'm just glad you're safe!" he said, holding her tight. Since no one seemed to be badly hurt, he took a moment to mourn the destruction of a priceless Neolithic, or perhaps Mesolithic archaeological site. Though, if those cultists had somehow rediscovered its actual purpose (rather than desecrating it with ignorance), then perhaps that was for the best as well.

  • Loveless:
As reluctant as Rosemarie was to say it, as soon as Ricky had made it out with her safely, she had let out a little 'thank you', though immediately added on to it, "But don't think that makes us even!" She didn't have much to say to Jaxob, and doubt that he would even listen, simply sighing in defeat as he apologized with just as much class as she had thanked Ricky, which is to say nearly none.

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Yes, I'm OK," Lliira said, giving Nolan a shy smile. "I'm glad you're alright! I would really like to...talk to you more," she said. "Omigod," Natalee said, sashaying up behind her with her posse in tow. "Did you just manage to find another weirdo? Please don't mate and make little freak-babies."

  • Loveless:
"I'd love to talk to you more too! I really missed you... It was so fun the first time~!", Nolan had immediately replied back with an excited hop, only for one of the other girls to say something that left him incredibly confused, "Eh? I'm not sure how that would work...?", no really, it sounded impossible even on the supernatural side of things.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Bair had a radar for meanness and despite being in pain, he was about to get u- but Joseph beat him to it. " I'm sure that their kids would be ten times your kids because you are going to marry some high school jock who is going to peak now and when you're married with three kids and he's a deadbeat drunk who doesn't pay child support from your divorce, I don't think I will even be able to feel a little sorry. Besides, being a vapid bitch is so a decade ago, and the bullies called and would like their comebacks back."

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Uh..." Lliira blushed, while Natalee and her friends burst into laughter. She willed herself to ignore them, though she was sure she'd never hear the end of it. But she managed a fleeting smile for the guy who stuck up for her. This hadn't been the worst possible adventure, and at least no one had been hurt!

  • Diana:
Of course with the cave in, the rest of today's tour had to be cancelled. Thankfully, no creepy cultists made an appearance for the rest of the trip. The students had to suffer through more educational tours at boring museums (as well as their chaperones). Valerian and Jasmine were able to spend the rest of their vacation doing delightful things, though that cough still plagued poor Jasmine. Ricky never did figure out who had sent him to that place. But on the way back home to America, Lliira couldn't shake the feeling that something was not yet finish after all... TO BE CONTINUED.
