WANG (WAND) RISING
THURSDAY JULY 8TH @ 12 NOON - 3PM CENTRAL TIME

At the Vestagallian University of Sorcery, there is a bitter rivalry that has gone on within it's own walls for almost century.

You see, there is one club at the University that no one can take seriously. Over the years they have been the butt of many jokes. "Thy beards doth look like a woman's southern curtain!" to "That wand is the only thing you'll get pleasure from tonight!" and the more recent "HA, wand club more like WANG CLUB."

Which in hindsight was a terribly executed joke, but it did the trick. For the past several months the University's Wand Users Club has been taunted and vandalized. Any one who has ever been in the club or even uses a wand is now the butt of distasteful and terrible WANG jokes. It's even gone as far as vandalism on property, scribbling out the D in Wand and replacing it with a G.

But the current and former members of Wang, er, WAND CLUB are tired of the jokes and abuse. The are going to pull of the greatest magical prank that anyone has ever seen. The sun will not be the only thing to rise in the morning. So too shall the Wangs. WANDS. THE WANDS, DAMNIT.

EVENT INFO

WHO: Everyone is invited! Character Bios/Pics are not required, but totally encouraged! Post 'em if you got 'em.

WHAT: This is a fantasy land university for wizards, witches, sorcerers, and more. That means anything you'd see in a fantasy story goes! You are most likely one of the members of WAND CLUB and you seek vengeance in the form of mischief.

WHEN: JULY 8TH - THURSDAY @ 12 NOON CENTRAL TIME. Ending @ 3PM.

WHERE: Join us in the WANG RISING chat room. You'll find the link to our chats in the CHAT tab when it's time to play.

HOW: This is a SOCIAL SETTING WITH IMPROVISATIONAL GAME MASTERING. That means the object of this roleplay is to interact with other characters, and from those interactions I will create a plot and story around you. There may be action moments, where strange events will happen and your characters will have to work together to resolve it. With this ChaRP "lol random" behaviors are discouraged -- what your character says and does will have in game consequences, so choose wisely!

My roleplays are always NEWBIE FRIENDLY so even if you are terrible at roleplay or have never participated in a ChaRP before, this will be easy for you to get involved in. :D Ask questions, let me know when you need help. I often give tips and direction out of character in the main chat room when people need a little direction.

EASY CHARP TIPS!

Try to show up a good 10 to 15 minutes before the ChaRP is to begin. That way you can read up on any important info, and it makes it easier for your GM to know how to start off the ChaRP when there's a head count.

Don't worry if another player is doing something similar to your idea. DO IT ANYWAY! Similarities and things in common happen in real life too. Everyone also plays differently, so two characters who are both "sweet and shy" will still end up being totally unique people. Two assassins could create a fun and interesting conflict!

Talking to other players about their character before the roleplay is a GREAT way to create connections and background for your own!

Post SHORT AND FAST. Charps are very quick pace and contain a LOT of players. Players can't wait 20 minutes for you to write a wall of text, and if there's too much text they won't be able to read it fast enough and will MISS details. If it takes you longer than two minutes to type your post, you are taking too long and might get lost in the action. This is an exercise in quick and concise writing!

Make sure your character name is mentioned in every post, close to the start of it if possible. This is especially helpful when there's many players, so we know who is playing what character.

Like in Real Life, a character may not be able to acknowledge or notice your character immediately because they are engaged in doing something else. (For example a new character walking in to the room, but the other characters arguing about muffins and do not see them.) Don't get discouraged if you go can't get someone to interact with you right away. Just keep posting and doing actions with your character, or even approach others who also seem to be idle and it WILL happen.

Do not take events in the roleplay personally or assume that bad reactions are because they think you/your character sucks. Everyone is playing a character and reacting to things as their character would!

Rania Vrajitorya

Age: 19
Gender: Female
Orientation: Asexual
Personality: Rania is secretive and cunning. She is quiet and keeps to herself, parsimonious in word and action. She moves with unhurried elegance, but makes her plans to stay several steps ahead of her enemies. Rania is patient and not easily angered, but once provoked, her revenge is cold, calculated, and terrible.

She loves the arcana of the magical arts, and studies them on the deepest, most fundamental level. She also enjoys crafting magical items.

Bio: Rania was born as a cincilya altet'za (roughly, "fifth princess") of one of the Great Houses of Druslaan, an exotic land far to the east. She grew up in a world of constant, deadly intrigue, but found both refuge and power in the sorcerous arts. In Druslaan, wand use is the norm, and a sorcerer or sorceress is expected to be able to craft their own wand before they can become an Initiate and begin to learn the deeper secrets of magic. A wand is meant to be a manifestation of its creator, deeply attuned to their character and interests. "The wand is the soul of the Sorcerer."

After Rania created her wand and graduated from secondary school, she was sent to distant Vestagallian University to complete her education. She does not know for sure if this was done to protect her, get her out of the way of someone's plot, accomplish some other end...or perhaps some tangled combination of all three. She has kept her station to herself. The Druslaani court is an inscrutable puzzle palace even to Druslaani, so she came here hoping to avoid being recognized or drawing attention to herself.

Unfortunately, she found herself in the middle of an unexpected conflict: this matter of local antipathy toward wand-wielders. At first Rania tried to loftily dismiss the pranks and insults as beneath her notice. But as it became apparent to her that they were both pervasive and organized, Rania came to two conclusions: One, she needed allies. Two, her wandless adversaries needed to be decisively crushed. And so, as the first step toward their downfall, Rania joined the Wand Users' Club...

Wand:

1625751912741.png
Rania's wand is designed to be wielded from either end, depending on the type of magical working being performed. For simpler tasks, quick spellcasting, and dueling, it is held near the crystal orb, with magic directed through the tip. For precision work, such as alchemy, potion-making, and enchanting of magical items, it is held by the tapering end, with power channeled through the crystal orb. Additional nuance can be achieved by manipulation of the attached mystic symbols and substances with the free hand. Several spells can be stored, or even combined in various ways within the crystal orb, but this requires extra concentration and can be risky. While the attached items make the wand capable of exceptionally delicate work, they are somewhat awkward and distracting when the wand is used for rapid-fire dueling spells. It is slower to draw than a conventional wand, and Rania prefers to wrap the attachment lanyard around her wrist before engaging in high-speed wand-waving.

You are in a Wand Users club with a bunch of your fellow wand users. Unfortunately you're getting trolled by others at the university and tonight you and your friends plan to pull off a huge revenge prank. This is a high fantasy setting!

  • Diana:
In a dark room in a dark corner of the university castle, a small but riled up club meets in the middle of the night. Wand Club plots to get it's revenge tonight, if it is the last thing they do!

  • Zarko Straadi:
Rania checked again to make sure that she was not being followed. Moving silently through the shadows, she reached the door slipped into the room. As she quietly shut the door behind her, her emerald eyes made note of who was in the room...and who wasn't.

  • Diana:
Dimitria Von Renslottor was technically not the creator of Wand Club, but she was one of the most active members. Tonight she was dressed in all black leathers (better to be SNEAKY in the dark in) and took note of who showed up, and who didn't. Because there was bound to be a traitor among them if they weren't careful!

  • Diana:
In the room so far was a pretty pitiful assortment of members. Half the population of the university used wands in their work, but Wand Club did not seem to have the university's best in it's membership. One corner was an elf wearing a sweater two sizes two big as he sipped on some janky looking alchemical potion. By a fireplace was a young portly faerie trying to unfurl a few maps of the castle. And from the looks of it, only those two along with Rania and Dimitria showed up. ...things seemed dour.

  • Diana:
"Great, if this is all we have, then maybe that's for the best..." exclaimed Dimitria. "Less people means we're less likely to muck this all up. ....Do we at least have supplies for tonight?" she asked the room hopefully. She herself had a couple sacks full of feathers and a few bottles of Everlasting Soap Bubbles.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Rania gave Dimitria a nod. She wore a tunic and trousers of slightly different shades of dark gray, with a dark green head-scarf and sash, arranged to break up her outline. Without making a sound, she glided to an empty seat facing the door and settled into it. She took out her wand, fiddling with the golden symbols of its lanyard. Unfortunately, she was new to this school and this club. The forces on her side did not look the most promising, but one had to fight with the forces at one's disposal. Rania nodded in answer to Dimitria's question. Her sash hid a bandolier strap loaded with vials of potions, spell components, and base materials suited to a variety of transfigurations. "Do we know who is ringleader of enemies? Who are key supporters, and rivals?"

  • Diana:
"That's an excellent question." Announced Dimitria. She for one, was so glad for the fresh blood in the club. They hadn't had a new member in ages, and sharp questions were just the thing they needed to get everyone fired up. Dimitria moved over to a moveable chalk board and flipped it around to show the "progress" on the current investigation. "Our biggest issue seems to be Jamison Pettigrew, a senior wizard aiming to get a position with one of the High Kings after graduation. He seems to think anyone using tools to help channel or amplify magic are weak and Wand Club is easier pickings than going after his actual rival Amalia Ravnflare. He and his asshole friends are basically just making life miserable for everyone small. ...thus, THE PLAN."

  • Zarko Straadi:
Of course Rania knew the ones who had made fun of her and pulled pranks on her, but to properly collapse a cabal, one had to know its centers of power and its internal fault lines. "Does he have particular High King in mind?" Surely a High King of this country would keep tabs on potential recruits to some degree. Find a way to create subtle clues indicating that Pettigrew served a rival King and would betray...perhaps that would have to be a longer-term plan though. Perhaps if they crafted their strike to look like it came from Amalia, to set them against each other? But Amalia would know otherwise, and that carried a risk that she might sense another foe and align with him. Perhaps if he could be sufficiently disgraced, his 'asshole friends' would smell blood and turn on him, and his prospective employer would deem him unworthy. "Does he have significant other? Or, how do you say, crush?"

  • Diana:
"Oh yes!" chimed in the portly faerie. "Her name is Kakani and she is so very lovely! He is trying to get her to go with him to the Summer Ball! Should we kidnap her?"

  • Diana:
"Uh, maybe lets not commit any crimes here that's going to land us in the dung-" Dimitria tried to interject.

  • Diana:
"We could leave a package outside her door from Jamison telling her to meet him out by the big fountain, then I could use one of my potions to turn her into a donkey. He'll have to marry an ass!" offered in the elf in a sweater.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Rania raised an eyebrow. "We should not attack her unless necessary. Do not create enemies where they do not already exist. Do any of his friends also have crush on her?"

  • Diana:
"Right. We shouldn't drag in anybody that doesn't really deserve it," agreed Dimitria, now a little concerned that the night might get out of hand. "In fact, if we just focus on Jamison and his wing of the dorm, we'd basically get his awful friend group in one good sweep."

  • Diana:
"I do have a couple of exploding vials here..." suggested the sweater elf. "Boil Bombs, specifically, not deadly of course. It's easy enough to sneak in and plant them around the wing."

  • Diana:
"Oh, but I love the idea of romantic intrigue..." pouted the portly faerie. "Can't we cause a big drama? At least three of his buddies are all smitten with Amalia and it would be ever so much fun to drag it all out!"

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Direct attack against whole group would only invite retaliation," Rania said, "then conflict escalates." She turned to the faerie. "Which three buddies? If we can make it look like strike against him is from one of them, on Amalia's behalf--but so that he does not know which one for certain--then doubt and distrust is sown among them. And from doubt and distrust comes betrayal."

  • Diana:
"They've been vandalizing all of our club signs, a little direct attacking might be warranted about now," insisted Dimitria with a huff. "Feathers and sticky soap could really do the trick..."

  • Diana:
The portly faerie was practically beaming now that romantic nonsense was going to be the winning focus. "WELL, his three closest buddies of course. Amalia is a bit of a flirt as we all know and hasn't committed to anyone, not even dumb old Jamison. We could plant a Boil Bomb on Jamison himself with some note saying in Amalia's honor and leave a sock from on dumb boy and a spell signature from other! They'll be SO twisted about!"

  • Diana:
"Oh, oh, I could easily adjust my alchemical recipe to use some of the ingredients they're always putting in their awful potions! It could look like more than one of them worked together on it!" chimed in the sweater elf. This plan was turning out fantastic!

  • Zarko Straadi:
Rania contemplated their proposals for a moment. Not exactly subtle, but then people who vandalize 'Wand' to be 'Wang' are not subtle. "Yes...could work for start," she said. "What is root of this hate for wand users?"

  • Zarko Straadi:
Rania turned to Dimitria. "We are outnumbered. Frontal attack only plays to their strength. But if we turn them against each other, their strength fights itself. Then we have opportunity to strike at root of their ideology."

  • Diana:
"Jamison's flimsy dick, most likely," grumbled out Dimitria, almost as if she had experience. "I mean, he's really just an ass and he's trying to play for power thinking we're an easy mark. We may as well show him we're not." Since they seemed to have decided on the romantic drama and boil bombs route, Dimitria gestured to the sweater elf to help pack up one of her sacks with his vials. "We have an hour to sneak in and set it up, so we better get going! Wings can write the note about Amalia, I guess, me and Rania can setup the vials, and you Sweater can keep a lookout and get ready to detonate when we're clear."

  • Zarko Straadi:
"He has flimsy dick?" Rania said. The tone of Dimitria's voice and the nuances of her expression were additional factors to incorporate into her calculations. "Perhaps for next step we find way to make this more widely known."

  • Diana:
Dimitria definitely wasn't to complain about that suggestion! The small group gathered their supplies of Boil Bombs, with the elf making the needed tweaks to each one so that it looked like Jamison's friends worked on the recipe together and the portly faerie scrawling a very convincing letter penned by one friend to another about how they could woo Amalia away from Jamison with a few smears of the potion to really sell it. Off they snuck to Jamison's wing where everything was silent as could be, aside from the snores of sleeping university students tucked away in their beds.

  • Diana:
Dimitria in her black leather getup looked very much the stealthy thief (or in this case.. reverse thief?) and had no issue being as quiet as a mouse. It took a few peeking into doors to figure out which room belonged to Jamison himself, but once she found it, she held a finger to her mouth and then signaled for Rania and the faerie to follow her inside for the setup.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Rania moved with silent grace, instinctively blending into the shadows. She kept her eyes narrowed so that their whites could not be seen from a distance. She had her wand out, crystal orb and lanyard concealed within a bell sleeve, from which the slender tip protruded, carefully searching for any magical wards they might trip.

  • Diana:
Jamison must've been paranoid about retribution for sure, because there was more than one magical trap waiting. As Rania snuck by the cord connected to the curtains came swooshing out to wrap around her legs. When Dimitria tried to roll across the floor to avoid a snapping trunk, a rug tried to roll her up. The portly faerie wasn't too small to avoid traps either, as when she was trying to drop her forged note, a Venus Fly Trap snatched her up in it's planty jaws!

  • Zarko Straadi:
Rania had detected the trap just before it sprang, so she was barely able to cast a paralysis spell to freeze the cord, but inwardly she kicked herself. At home, failure of such magnitude would be a ticket to an early grave. But even this failed mission could still succeed, if she could get herself and her friends out before Jamison saw them, while leaving enough incriminating evidence behind to implicate his friends. Hurriedly stepping over the frozen cord, she rushed over to pry open the flytrap's jaws with her wand tip. With her other hand, she pointed toward the door, then reached for one of the vials on her bandolier strap.

  • Diana:
FLASHSNAP! All the candles in the room suddenly came on! Jamison's snoring was revealed to be nothing more than a long lizard sprawled out in his bed. "WHAT'S GOING ON IN HERE." It wasn't Jamison at the door - worse - it was one of the ancient professors, still in his nightgown and cap, looking most annoyed at being woken up in the middle of the night. The sweater elf who was -supposed- to be keeping watch was nowhere to be found. Rania, the faerie and Dimitria had been caught red-handed attempting to violate a students room.

  • Diana:
"I can explain!" shouted Dimitria, rolling out of that damned rug. It looked pretty bad, though, when her sack of Boil Bombs suddenly EXPLODED and the entire room filled with smoke and the stench of a dragon's bum.

  • Diana:
With the room clouded with stinky, stinky smoke, the three had a choice: stay and explain to the professor OR do they attempt an escape!

  • Zarko Straadi:
When the candles came on, Rania did not turn to the sound of the voice. Instead, she flicked the stopper off of her vial of invisibility potion with a thumb and drank it. She was about to reach for another vial, one of Instant Smoke, but then Dimitria's bombs exploded. Instead, she flicked her wand to create a Gust of Wind spell that would keep the Boil Bomb fumes away from herself while she sought an opportunity for escape. If she got out of this without being expelled, that elf was going to REGRET the day he betrayed them!

  • Diana:
Rania's two companions had the same ideas in mind. Dimitria herself just made a mad dash for the window and lept out of it without bothering to look for a safe way down. (Thank goodness she pulled her wand out of her boot and summoned up something soft to land on.) The portly faerie as well had squeezed her tiny body through a vent and scampered away. By the time the smoke cleared, there was only the poor old wizard covered in boils and looking rankled. "I SAW YOUR FACES, YOU TWITS! AS SOON AS I CATCH YOU, YOU'RE ALL EXPELLED!" he bellowed.

  • Diana:
Will the three regroup before getting caught by campus guards? Can they explain what happened?! Why were they betrayed by the elf in a sweater?! Tune in next time for WANG RISING: REVENGE OF THE WANG.
