NORTHLAKE HIGH FIELDTRIP
NOVEMBER THURSDAY THE 12TH @ 2PM TO 5PM CENTRAL TIME

Students and Chaperones of Northlake High are off to the Bear Oak State Park for an educational Hike Weekend about local floral and fauna and how we can protect our natural resources! Three school buses worth of students, faculty and volunteer chaperones will get to explore the forest trails, learn more about the caves, go swimming at Bear Oak lake, and enjoy a weekend camping under the stars.

Surely nothing could go wrong at an innocent camping trip.

EVENT INFO

WHO: Everyone is invited! Character Bios/Pics are not required, but totally encouraged! Post 'em if you got 'em.

WHAT: You are playing a teenager, parent of a teenager, or a teacher from Northlake Highschool. You're here for this fieldtrip, whether you are a student, faculty, or chaperone. Supernatural content is allowed, but you better keep it a secret. The world doesn't believe in that kind of stuff.

WHEN: NOVEMBER THURSDAY THE 12TH @ 2PM TO 5PM CENTRAL TIME

WHERE: Join us in the NORTHLAKE HIGH HIKE chat room. You'll find the link to our chats in the CHAT tab when it's time to play.

HOW: This is a SOCIAL SETTING WITH IMPROVISATIONAL GAME MASTERING. That means the object of this roleplay is to interact with other characters, and from those interactions I will create a plot and story around you. There will be action moments, where strange events will happen and your characters will have to work together to resolve it. With this ChaRP "lol random" behaviors are discouraged -- what your character says and does will have in game consequences, so choose wisely!

My roleplays are always NEWBIE FRIENDLY so even if you are terrible at roleplay or have never participated in a ChaRP before, this will be easy for you to get involved in. :D Ask questions, let me know when you need help. I often give tips and direction out of character in the main chat room when people need a little direction.

EASY CHARP TIPS!

Try to show up a good 10 to 15 minutes before the ChaRP is to begin. That way you can read up on any important info, and it makes it easier for your GM to know how to start off the ChaRP when there's a head count.

Don't worry if another player is doing something similar to your idea. DO IT ANYWAY! Similarities and things in common happen in real life too. Everyone also plays differently, so two characters who are both "sweet and shy" will still end up being totally unique people. Two assassins could create a fun and interesting conflict!

Talking to other players about their character before the roleplay is a GREAT way to create connections and background for your own!

Post SHORT AND FAST. Charps are very quick pace and contain a LOT of players. Players can't wait 20 minutes for you to write a wall of text, and if there's too much text they won't be able to read it fast enough and will MISS details. If it takes you longer than two minutes to type your post, you are taking too long and might get lost in the action. This is an exercise in quick and concise writing!

Make sure your character name is mentioned in every post, close to the start of it if possible. This is especially helpful when there's many players, so we know who is playing what character.

Like in Real Life, a character may not be able to acknowledge or notice your character immediately because they are engaged in doing something else. (For example a new character walking in to the room, but the other characters arguing about muffins and do not see them.) Don't get discouraged if you go can't get someone to interact with you right away. Just keep posting and doing actions with your character, or even approach others who also seem to be idle and it WILL happen.

Do not take events in the roleplay personally or assume that bad reactions are because they think you/your character sucks. Everyone is playing a character and reacting to things as their character would!

Name: Imojen Serendipity Chastain

Age: 16

Appearance: Dark hair, dark eyes with long eyelashes and a mischievous twinkle, pale skin.

Imojen at 14

1604028601820.png

Personality:

Though Imojen usually wears Goth clothes, she exhibits an irrepressibly bright, cheerful personality, as if in mockery of the dark, spooky image a Goth is supposed to present. She is friendly to everyone--even people who make fun of her. However, she has difficulty finding or keeping friends because she refuses to conform to any clique or social type, and her weird personality quirks tend to embarrass people who might otherwise let themselves be seen with her.

She is a joker and a prankster, but her pranks aren't designed to hurt or humiliate people--rather, they're more like "practical Zen koans" intended to make people think, stop thinking, or just wonder, 'What the heck was that?!'

Imojen loves science, the weirder the better. She built a Farnsworth Fusor for a recent science fair, and is currently attempting to construct an "EmDrive," a device reported to generate reactionless thrust in seeming violation of Newtonian mechanics. She is especially interested in unsolved mysteries and anomalies of the Fortean sort.

Bio:

Imojen was born to hard-driving, competitive parents. Her father, Quinn, is a high-profile investor; her mother, Madeline, a prominent socialite who advanced with him by making sure he was at all the right soirees and charity fundraisers. Together, they planned to have The Perfect Family, one boy and one girl, both of whom would excel, become popular, and proceed onward to financial and social success.

Their plan got off to a good start when their daughter was born. Danae was charismatic and socially adept even as a little girl, good at gymnastics and dance. However, instead of the boy who would have made their family complete, they got Imojen. Imojen came with a birth defect, unusual bifurcated feet. Her first two toes and the other three are fused together, with a split between them. In the custom-made shoes she needs, they resemble cloven hooves. They also reduce her dexterity when it comes to tasks involving speed and balance. Her "Devil feet" made her a laughingstock among other children from a young age.

No matter how hard she tried, Imojen could never measure up to Danae, or to her parents' standards. In school, she was a millstone around her sister's neck, the unwanted little tag-along who always made Danae's efforts to be the Queen Bee extra difficult. Her parents made Danae take her to parties and social functions in hope that she'd catch on and become a younger version of her sister.

As their careers advanced, Quinn and Madeline had less time for their children. For Danae, they could make time, especially for important events like recitals and birthdays; for Imojen, not so much. When Imojen joined her sister at Winslow Preparatory School, the elite private high school where her parents met, her life took a turn for the worse. She was quickly singled out as the school weirdo, which only made Danae hate her more. Children of rich and powerful people who were used to getting away with almost anything subjected her to an escalating spiral of cruelty.

Then, she got a break, of sorts: Danae got pregnant out of wedlock, causing a scandal for the family. For a time, Imojen became the favorite...until Quinn and Madeline found out that Danae was going to have a boy. The Perfect Family would be complete at last. Danae's star rose again at home, and it was readily apparent that The Baby would take over the universe as soon as he was born. Meanwhile, at school Danae scrambled to rescue her popularity by joining the others' attacks on Imojen.

Cycling across a high bridge on her way from school one day, the idea struck Imojen: she could jump, end her misery, and leave her family happier in her absence. She dismounted her bike, climbed the railing, and looked down into the water below. Danae and her friends drove up, and pulled over. The others started shouting "Jump! Jump!" and goading Danae to join them. Danae, angry with her sister for resorting to such a ploy for attention, gave in and joined them. When she heard her sister's voice, Imojen turned and looked her in the eye, and that's when Danae knew she'd made a horrible mistake.

Imojen looked down into the water again and spread out her arms, preparing to jump. But as she stood there, letting go of her life and all the pain it contained, she had a sudden awakening to the beauty of the river and its gorge, the trees, and the pattern integrities of nature. The boundary of her self fell away, and she felt a sense of oneness with all existence. Could she really give up all the beauty in the world for a bunch of mean school children? Filled with awe, she broke into laughter.

"You think this is funny, bitch?" one of the boys said as he ran up, and gave her a shove.

Imojen hit a patch of water without any rocks, but she nearly drowned before a group of rafters pulled her out of the water. After a near-death experience, she awakened in an ambulance filled with joy and zest for life. Adopting a "lemonade from lemons" attitude, she decided to hold her freak flag high, take the stage and make people laugh on purpose. She abandoned all efforts to measure up to Danae, and instead set out to discover and manifest her authentic self. She talked her parents into letting her go to public school, where she wouldn't be forced to associate with the children of the Important People in their social circle.

Her parents are very disappointed with the way she's turning out. They spend almost no time with Imojen, since clients and social duties (Rotary club, Chamber of Commerce meetings, etc.) always take precedence. Even when they make a show of setting aside time for her, she can count on it being interrupted by an important phone call, or being a thinly-disguised business/social event for them, such as a birthday party used as an opportunity to impress and network with the parents of the other kids invited to the party. Or, it's an opportunity for them to present the image of the perfect Leave It To Beaver family to potential clients or other VIP's. This has made Imojen's turn toward odd Gothic fashion and outrageous, uninhibited behavior a problem.

Additional Info: Imojen's feet hamper her balance somewhat, so that she cannot run as fast as someone with normal feet, and can't do things that require high dexterity, like ballet or cheerleading.

Emmett Neal Days

7d352886b8e4c72c400db96f98f8f55b.png

Age: 15
Gender: Male
Occupation: Student

Personality: Emmett is a gentle, excitable young man with an insatiable passion for nature. With an inquisitive and curious personality, he's taken into himself to observe all kinds of interesting fauna and flora, asking people about them and taking pictures when he can't ask others. With said method, the boy has come to learn names and information of an assortment of plants and animals, which he might or might not recite out loud when he comes across them again. Em is the type of person to refuse to cross through the grass in concern from it, despite being aware that grass has its own defenses towards that and won die so easily. Always observant, he'll a hundred per cent pull a person away of the way of stomping into a flower, with no regrets of doing such a thing. To him, that would have been a really big deal!

With others, Emmett is extremely warm, greeting them, replying when talked to and eventually chiming in when there's something he wants to say. At first, he might give them the impression of being shy, but that's merely the boy assessing how much new people care about their boundaries. He'd hate to be a nuisance so soon... Once those are established he'll start to get more open with them... Things might still get awkward, no method is perfect after all. Despite the cheerful, sometimes childish demeanor, Emmett takes everything people say with a grain of salt, especially if they look suspicious while they said it. He understands that not everyone is kind and that some people are just hell-bent into ruining other's days. He doesn't like that type of people, but still tries really hard to be on good terms with them.

To get on his bad side it's really not that hard. Scoffing and disrespecting nature is a big no, annoying people just for the sake of being annoying is another strike. There are all sorts of daily minor things that seem wrong that could do it. Angry Emmett is also stubborn Emmett and in the heat of the moment, he might get too worked up about the dispute to back down, though that doesn't mean he's unable to accept when he's wrong. He'll apologise right away.
Not a lot that can cause this young man painful soul-grinding cringe, but calling him 'End' or 'New Days' might just do it. Yes, yes his initials spell End by some internal joke by his parents... Yes, his name is a bit weird. But really, can't people quit reminding him of that? It's not amusing, at all.

Brief History: Growing up in the big city, Emmett spent a lot of time playing games and watching TV when he wasn't at school. The shows and characters were interesting but, when he glanced around the room and through the windows and talked to people he just couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing. More than people, Emmett liked plants. He would sometimes stare at his mom's flower pots, admiring how pretty they were for a couple hours and the fact that they lived in an apartment made the interaction man-flora limited... Until the boy was old enough to travel away, accepting an invite from his uncles to spend a vacation in the countryside.

Most city-bugs would be annoyed by travelling to a semi-rural place and being far from devices and technology. But not Emmett, from the moment he had stepped out of the car the boy had completely fallen in love, with mother-nature.

There was a forest right beside the town! So many trees, flowers, animals and even better, they had a huuuuge garden too! The excitement was real. The handheld console that had been brought along was barely fiddled with that summer. Promptly, a ten-year-old Emmett had started making all kinds of question about the garden: Which plants were there? How did they care for them? He wanted to know everything. And that he did, being quite proud of himself when he got called the official gardener of the house. When it was time to go, Emmett didn't want to leave. What followed was a discussion of the boy and his parents while he begged to stay, including him being misunderstood and storming upstairs to sulk. After a long conversation with the uncles about Emmett's weird outburst, his parents had come to a conclusion. Em would be allowed to transfer school for a bit in a kind of test to see if he could handle being away from home for a semester... And then the boy never left again.

...Except to visit his parents on the holidays of course.

At this point, the boy's initial fascination with nature has grown into a great passion. He kept being the official gardener of the house and has come to know a huge amount of trivia, especially about plants. Emmett wants to quickly finish school and go to college to study Biology even deeper! He is 100% convinced that studying fauna, flora, knowing how living beings work, interact with the world and how to help preserve said fauna in flora is the best job anyone could ever have in the whole planet Earth. He honestly can't wait for it!

WELCOME TO THE NORTHLAKE HIGH FIELD TRIP!
  • Diana:
This is a "modern realistic" setting featuring teens and their chaperones. You can play a supernatural character, just remember it has to be a secret.
  • Diana:
As always, my roleplays are NEWBIE FRIENDLY! If you've never charped before OR just get confused during the action, I am in the main chat to help guide you, answer questions, and give suggestions.
  • Diana:
HOT TIP: Write brief, write fast. People miss details in posts that are too long, and taking too long to write a post means you might miss action yourself. Keep posts under 10 sentences.
  • Diana:
Put your CHARACTER NAME in the first sentence of your post so we know who is playing who. Using the bbcode color can also help differentiate between characters!

Game Master posts are in this bold bright yellow. Pay attention to those, because they often have important things your characters need to deal with.

It's a beautiful spring day in the Bear Oak State Park, perfect for a weekend camping and hiking field trip for the Norhtlake High students (and their wonderful volunteer chaperones). The buses have parked and have been unloaded, and everyone has been instructed to walk down the trail to the main camp site to setup their tents.
  • Zarko Straadi:
Imojen walked somewhat unsteadily down the trail, wearing a backpack that looked oversized on her small frame, containing her compact tent, clothes, and camping supplies. She had a hiking stick to aid her balance, but no one made hiking boots custom for her unusual bifurcated feet.
  • Loveless:
"Ho wee, this is going to be great!", had exclaimed a red-haired teen as he hopped out of the bus, already eyeing all of the nature around them with blue eyes wide with awe. Emmett loved plants, he's always had a great fondness for them and to go in a hiking adventure in the woods and stand this close to it was like a kid going to an amusement park to him! Unfortunately, he wasn't that knowledgeable about hiking, and only followed the instructions from the pamphlet and nothing else trusting that it had all the information needed. "Woooa there's so many beautiful trees!", he kept commenting to himself as the group continued on the trail, holding the urge to just run in front of them. Pretty or not, the woods could be dangerous!
  • Zarko Straadi:
Imojen slowed down a little so she could direct some attention upward at the trees rather than having it all down on the ground at her feet. "I know! If you look at how their branches emerge from the trunk, you can trace a helical pattern upward, like a vortex paused in time. By growing that way, the branches stay out of each other's way and optimize to collect the most sunlight," she said. Why yes, Imojen was a nerd, and didn't bother to hide it.
  • Diana:
"Make sure to stay with the group until we get base camp set up!" Called out one of the chaperone teachers. Old Mrs. Kettlebaum seemed too old to be hiking around in the woods. That was probably why her backpack was mostly full of knitting yarn and medication.
  • Zarko Straadi:
"It also allows the tree to remain balanced as it grows," Imojen added. It was not as if she was going to run ahead anyway, so why not take the time to enjoy observing the elegance of nature's operating principles as she walked?
  • Loveless:
When the girl had started speaking, Emmett had suddenly stopped in place, staring at her with an expression of surprise but also admiration. As the trivia had gone on, he had started echoing similar sentences in his mind, eventually uttering them in a lower voice to the point the final words had been said by them both together. And then he gasped in disbelief... "I FOUND ANOTHER PLANT NERD!", the teenager had pointed in a mix of exasperation and amusement, "I thought I was the only one!! This is amazing!" It was only once the order to stay with the group had rung out that he realized that he was getting behind, dashing to catch up with the other, the contents of his backpack rattling around. He was still pleasantly shocked.
  • Zarko Straadi:
Imojen laughed. "Well, I'm more of a general, all-purpose Swiss Army nerd, but yeah," she said, smiling at the boy's excitement. "But plants are fascinating, especially taken as interacting elements of an ecosystem. I'm Imojen," she said, pausing to extend a hand.
  • Diana:
"As you set up your tents, we implore you to find yourself a hiking buddy. Using the buddy-system is the best way to help make sure no one gets lost as we hike along the trails, or even when you need to go do your business." A round of eeewwws circled the campsite. Apparently, there were only public toilets at base camp. The teacher went on to explain environmentally friendly pooping habits.
  • Loveless:
"Right?!", the boy had replied accidentally raising his voice with the excitement, "It's soooo cool how they live on whatever is on the ground and water and are self-sustainable! And so much of how they are is extremely well-thought-of, like how they'll grow more on the side there's shade so that they'll end up closer to the light and such!", he continued trek with nearly skipping hops, having a lot of energy behind each step. "I'm Emmett!", he shook the girl's hand trying to not be too frantic with it, "You can shorter it to Em if you'd like. So uhh, do you wanna be my trip buddy?!" He stopped for a moment to consider the request, "We're allowed to have mixed duos, right?"
  • Zarko Straadi:
Imojen wobbled a little as he energetically shook her hand, but she managed not to faceplant. "I don't know, actually," she replied. "It would seem to be the sort of thing the chaperones might want to prevent, as such pairings could use waste-elimination as an excuse to sneak away for the performance of other biological functions. Of course the same principle could apply to people with other sexual orientations, so...I guess we could run the experiment and see if they stop us. I mean, being trip buddies."
  • Diana:
While one of the chaperones went around helping people pitch up their tents, a couple of teens nearby were having a hushed conversation about sneaking out once the sun set and heading over to Bear Lake for a little skinny dipping. It wouldn't be long, as the sun was already starting to creep beyond the horizon, creating a nice orangey hue to the sky.
  • Loveless:
Emmett came to a halt growing mildly flustered over that which the girl was insinuating. Before he could even recover from the blow, a pair of students nearby seemed to be discussing just that and just added to the discomfort. He wasn't here to do much more than seeing nature, it was a tad disappointing that others didn't seem to think the same way. "Let's make it a note to not be like those guys...", he had commented back in a low tone, discreetly pointing his thumb at the two troublemakers somewhere behind him.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Imojen picked out a site, and shucked out of her backpack so she could start setting up her tent. "OK," she replied. "Trying to find a girl trip-buddy would be problematic anyway," she said. "I have a high probability of being the sort of person they don't want to be seen with." Maybe it was the way she dressed. For this occasion, she wore a green Vietnamese military-surplus pith helmet complete with red star badge and matching expedition coat over a khaki shirt and cargo pants with lots of pockets and a utility belt with pockets of its own, all bulging with various contents. The explorer effect was somewhat ruined by her shoes, which resembled white Vans (which she had decorated with various esoteric sigils), except for the fact that the toes were bifurcated to accommodate her feet.
  • Diana:
Thankfully the tents provided for the trip were (mostly) very easy to pop open and then secure to the ground with stakes. Most kids got theirs done in a few minutes and were dispersing in all directions to go exploring the woods. A teacher very loudly insisted everyone keep their maps with them and to stay on the trails! Absolutely DO NOT leave the trails!
  • Dawn:
Samir dusted his hands off on the ass of his navy blue joggers, having just finished helping yet another student with their tent. "You've got the rest from here. I believe in you." Two thumbs up and a grin to match, Samir gazed around the camp to see who else might need some help. He was definitely the outdoorsy type, so he was thriving in his natural element. Some of the chaperones, however, were worse off than the students. Rolling a thin black elastic off of his wrist, he took a moment to gather up with wild curly hair and tie it back.
  • Zarko Straadi:
With a few taps on her phone, Imojen started playing, Never Go Into the Woods by The Cog Is Dead, the perfect soundtrack to accompany the chaperone's warning, singing along under her breath as she finished with her tent and started deploying her Biolite camp stove and lights.
  • Loveless:
Emmett had followed her lead, trailing right behind her to begin setting up his own tent nearby. Or well, trying to at least as he had never done anything like it before, pulling the instructions to his face and reading them carefully as they kept conversing. "Wha- really?", he had jerked suddenly in surprise, "But you're really nice to talk to!" Opposite to Imojen's army-style, Em's was very casual and though not very bright still colorful enough. It was more like something you'd see at the park instead of a full-on hike through the woods. Eventually, he had managed to set up the tent without many stumbles, feeling quite satisfied with his accomplishment. Obviously, the girl had finished way sooner though, so he was maaaybe kind of slowing her down. "Any direction you'd like to head to first?", he asked watching her set up even more objects. Emmett didn't really have a direction preference, he was more of the rolling with it type of guy.

Graham McDaniels, English teacher, was not exactly in his element. He still wasn't sure why he'd agreed to chaperone this trip (this is a lie). Scowling at his own tent as it tried to fold back up on itself, he cursed and looked around for the stake that had managed to vanish. God, he hoped none of the students were paying attention to this.
  • Diana:
The students of course noticed everything. Partly because everyone loved gossiping about the young hot teachers, but also because it was imperative to know what the teachers were doing so a small group of students could definitely wander off the trail to head towards Bear Lake for a little skinny dipping.
  • Zarko Straadi:
Imojen smiled. "Thank you!" she said as she riffled through her pockets. Compass, Leatherman tool, ball of string, hand lens, apple, paperback about Druid magic, all appeared and returned before she found her flashlight. "AHA!" With it in one hand and her hiking stick in the other, she was ready to go. "Direction? We can just pick one?" That sounded sure to create a situation in which the chaperones would find it impossible to keep anyone from wandering off of the trails. "I'm fine with any direction I suppose...but maybe a road less traveled?" Lower odds, she hoped, of being a victim of pranks from some of the meaner kids. "Oh, one more thing," she said, searching her backpack for a lanyard, which she tossed over a tree branch and used to reel a small, soft-sided cooler up high so bears couldn't get at it. "OK, ready!"

  • Dawn:
Samir watched Graham for a while, trying his best to be nice and not snicker at the man's struggle. At least until a student called for aid and he was on the move, eyes on his task. "Who wants to help me gather wood for the fire?" he asked to the group at large. At least those who'd remained behind. "Brats. I bet they're up to no good already," he sighed, smiling to himself. As long as no one got eaten by a bear, things would be fine, right?
  • Loveless:
Emmett had blinked, confused at Imojen's question. "Well, no one is directing us or anything... And there's multiple trails...", yeah to be honest, he was seeing a lot of issues with this lack of organization too, "But yeah, we can go for the one with the less people, that should be fine!" Seeing her pull out a flashlight, the red-haired boy had let out a little 'ooooh', impressed with her cleverness which only intensified once the cool was up a tree. "Okay, that's is very smart, I'd never have thought of any of that." Em didn't have a flashlight, exactly, but he pulled out his set of keys and the keychain had a little battery-powered LED that was useful enough. There was also a manual crank for phone-charging because he'd need it to take pictures of everything! ...These were some odd priorities. "Annnd here we go!"

"Onward!" Imojen said, heading off with Emmett. "I guess we could help gather firewood on our way back. So how long have you been into plants?"
  • Diana:
As Emmet and Imojen walked and talked, for sure following the map and the trail like they were supposed to, they soon found themselves at a crossroad trail with a pair of direction signs too faded to really read. Weird because it wasn't on the map. They could take the downhill path covered in granite gravel or head up the rising path of dirt and wood chips.
  • Dawn:
"Guess I'm tackling that task by myself," Samir sighed, hands on his hips as he surveyed the darkening forest around them. He pulled on his backpack, only after digging out one of two flashlights from the depths, and started into the tree line, announcing his departure to whomever was left at the camp.
  • Loveless:
"Firewood?", Emmett had parroted in confusion for a moment, until it clicked, "Ohhh, so like gather a bunch of sticks and such to bring back, right? That sounds really practical and useful!" At the girl's question, he had gone quiet for a couple seconds, "Well, that's hard to say actually. I guess I've always liked plants this much... Mom says that as a child, I'd sit and watch her flower pots for hours on end at times. Apparently, I did that very often despite having lots of other stuff I could do." Once they had reached the signs, the choice seemed a tad obvious, "I mean, we did want to gather wood...", he had mused to himself, considering the upwards path the most.

Once Graham finally managed to pitch a tent (lol), he noticed that the crowd had considerably thinned out and sighed. Fantastic. He was doing about as well at chaperoning as he'd done at prom so far. ...Except for the part where he'd wound up under a table with the absolute bane of his existence right now. He glanced over at Samir, flustered. Things since prom had been... a whole lot of nothing. Was all that just because they'd been drugged? Was Graham just overthinking everything? (Probably, but still.) Oh shit. Samir was wandering off alone. Graham glanced around, confirming that yes at least one teacher was paying attention to the children, and jogged after him. "Wait up."

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Huh," Imojen said. She hadn't expected to find a fork in the trail this soon. She leaned her stick against her body so she could free up a hand for pocket-riffling, finally coming up with her map and unfolding it. "I am noticing confusion," she said. "Could you have a look at this and see if you could find out where we are?" she said, handing the map over to Emmett. "Just a sec." A bit more pocket-fishing, and she recovered the ball of string and her Leatherman tool. She cut off a piece and tied it to the tree nearest the branching path, bow toward the trail they'd taken up from camp. "Yeah, let's go that way," she said, agreeing with Emmett's choice of trail. The granite gravel was a more precarious surface than she wanted to traverse downhill in the gathering dark.

  • Diana:
The uphill path seemed innocent enough and led to what looked like a frequented chill spot. There were signs of a fire, scattered beer cans everywhere, and even a dirty old cooler. Not far away was the opening of a cave.
  • Loveless:
Emmett nimbly took the map he had been handed and carefully turned it around to face him, attentively focusing back where the campsite was marked, then more or less the direction they had headed out to, slooowly tracing their steps back and not seeing this split anywhere? And the paths didn't seem to be signalized either. At first, he had just retracted his head a bit and linked confused, diving right back in but as it kept happening he felt himself start to panic as they kept moving on. Finally taking his eyes out of the map, he had stared back at Imojen with extreme apprehension and fear. "I uhh, I can't seem to find any of this in the map...", it was a forcefully calm tone, as the boy seemed to be trying to convince himself that no, they were not lost. They couldn't have gotten lost this quickly, right? That was impossible! ...Wasn't it? He awaited to see what the girl's suggestion would be. Exploring the cave seemed like a terrible idea though.

Sidney emerged from the cave and stretched, only to find two of his classmates there. He blinked several times. "Uh... hi."
  • Zarko Straadi:
Imojen groaned. "Gobshites!" she snapped. More pocket-searching, and this time she produced a plastic bag, which she unfurled, and began stuffing discarded cans into it until it was full. "What part of 'pack it in, pack it out' don't people understand," she muttered to herself. Once her bag was full, she set it next to the gross old cooler and inspected her handiwork. She hadn't been able to get all the cans, but at least it was an improvement. Then she noticed that Emmett seemed to be just as confused as she had been. "Is there a cave on the map anywhere?" she said, heading in that direction for a closer look. She would definitely want to come back the next day for a little spel-- "WAAH!" she said, as her flashlight caught a looming form emerging from the cave. "Oh, uh...hi. Is the cave interesting?"
  • The Mood is Write:
"I kinda... crashed in there after... uh... thanks for cleaning that up, but I was going to get it after I slept it off, Imogen..." He rubbed at his forehead. "Mind... lowering that flashlight a little...?"

  • Diana:
The woods were starting to get dark now that the sun had disappeared behind the trees. A hoooooooowling could be heard in the distance, while closer there was the deafening chorus of crickets.
  • Zarko Straadi:
"Sorry," Imojen said, lowering the light. "Wait...'crashed' in there? I am noticing more confusion. How could you have had time to get to the cave, go in, and fall asleep?" she wondered.
  • AnxiousEnby:
Matt would pounce playfully on Imojen from the distance "Im sorry! I got lost" he would admit with his cheeks flushed, ears twitching.
  • The Mood is Write:
He blinked. "I... came out here a little before noon?" he said as he tried to think it through himself, why two of his classmates would be there, wondering at his timing before... "Oh... shit, the class trip is... here?" He slid a hand down his face.
  • Zarko Straadi:
"Uh...yes?" Imojen replied. "Did you come up here by your--?" Suddenly, she was pounced on by a predator of the forest! Well not really. "Matt! You made it!" She'd thought he hadn't, but he must have ended up on one of the other buses instead. "Matt, this is Emmett," she said, introducing the other guy. "Emmett, this is Matt," she said, putting her free arm around the Neko to give him a squeeze.
  • Loveless:
Emmett had been snapped out of his terror once Imojen had started packing in the trash that had been left all around the forest. How despicable and thoughtless! The nature-loving teenager was infuriated by the sight, losing focus on the map that had been tucked into his short's pocket and instead attempting to carry all of the remaining cans and objects in-between his arms, which wasn't possible but he tried anyway! By the time he had joined back with her and the new person in the cave... which might or might not be the culprit of the littering, he had a pile of trash with him. "I saw a couple, but nowhere where we allegedly left from... It would be impossible to have ended up on any of them from here.", did someone just forget to map this out? What was going on? And then he was startled by yet, a new arrival, who had pounced on the girl. Welp, there went all of the cans he had collected... "What even- Where did you come from?!", the red-haired teen had asked exasperatedly, "And what's with the cat act?" There was way too much happening at once to pay attention to everything going on.
  • Diana:
With things getting dark, all the kids should probably head back towards camp. Except... when they looked, the trail was gone! Nothing but trees and bushes and wilderness to be seen. Strangely enough, one Samir and Graham were finding themselves in a similar predicament elsewhere in the woods.
  • AnxiousEnby:
He would giggle as he gave Imojen a peck on the lips "I'm glad that I could make it, I got the wrong bus..." he grumbled slightly. The Neko tilted his head at the other male, shifting softly "I-I'm a neko...its not acting" it wasn't said with confidence either.
  • The Mood is Write:
"I... was asleep in the cave. Hi, Emmett, hi Matt." He rubbed his face again. "I guess... now everyone's gonna know I wasn't really home sick today, huh?" He shook his head and started to belatedly clean up his drinking site, only to tilt his head. "Don't mind Matt. He's a cat, and that's just how it is. He came out right before prom, so probably not everyone knows." He hoped Emmett would take it to mean something similar to trans or gay, and thus Not To Be Questioned(tm).
  • Zarko Straadi:
"We should probably start getting back to...wah?" Imojen said. The trail they'd come by had been there just a moment ago, and now it...wasn't? "We...seem to be experiencing a day of maximal improbability..." She went over to where the trail was supposed to be, set down her hiking stick, and started inspecting the plants with flashlight and hand lens for any clue as to how they could have just appeared.
  • The Mood is Write:
Sidney squinted. "You're... seeing that too, Imogen?" He blinked slowly a few times at where the trail had been. "That... that explains why those older kids said nobody comes out here..." He groaned softly, then reached into his pocket an pulled out a big bottle of sugarfree pink gatorade before he began to drink, hoping to hydrate enough to get rid of his hangover.
  • Loveless:
Emmett was conflicted, not only did he never seen anything like Matt before, but now he was being expected to not ask about it while everyone else was treating it very casually! But ultimately he had sighed in defeat, this all just seemed like something out of a video-game. "Right.", had been all that the teen had said in response, getting back down to re-collect the trash with an air of frustration. That is, until Imojen had reacted weirdly, her surprise causing him to jerk his head back up towards her. "Wait what? What do you mean by that?", there was no more hiding it, the panic was clearly in his tone now.
  • AnxiousEnby:
The Neko noticed that Emmett didn't seem to like that he was a neko so he hissed at him, mumbling under his breath "jerk" before turning his back to face Imojen. He heard the panic and used his nose to try and pick up a scent but he couldn't smell anything in all this nature, ears twitching again and tail swirling behind him. At least with him here, he could see for them.
  • Zarko Straadi:
"Unanticipated absence of the trail," Imojen replied. "We could be in the middle of a Fortean disa....adventure," she said, belatedly noticing Emmett's near-panic. Her brows furrowed at the apparent dislike emerging between Matt and Emmett. "Emmett, could you please look at these plants? Try to tell if they've grown in place, or been recently planted, or any other anomalies?"
  • Diana:
BAAAWOOOooOOOoooOOoo. A howl closeby disturbed a bunch of birds. Soon a number of other howlers joined in the song. Something rustled in the bushes near Imojen before a pair of big brown beady eyes peered out of the darkness.
  • The Mood is Write:
"Well," Sidney muttered, "We've dealt with vampires and..." he reached for a gun he didn't have as something peered from the bushes near Imogen.

  • The Mood is Write:
"Back away, Gen!" he barked, eyes wide.
  • Zarko Straadi:
"WAH!" Imojen cried. Backpedal, stumble, pratfall. She grabbed her hiking stick and tried to use it to stave off the creature if it attacked while she scrambled to her feet.
  • The Mood is Write:
Sidney moved forward and pushed anyone else in his way behind him as she came to stand between Imogen and the eyes.
  • Diana:
BORKBORKBORKBORKBORK!! Out from the bushes lept a dog, and another dog, and another dog, and more dogs! One might've expected a pack of wolves, but instead it was a pack of stray dogs in various breeds and sizes. They did not look friendly. In fact, the looked real feral, wild, and hungry!
  • The Mood is Write:
Sidney gasped. "Puppies...!" He very nearly melted at the sight of them, even angry as they seemed. He knelt and offered a hand. "Hi there!"
  • Loveless:
At Imojen's request, Emmett had quickly sprinted towards the nearby trees and bushes to assess whether there was anything inherently wrong with them, but he saw nothing out of the ordinary. The roots were definitely deeply in the soil that had not been messed with in any way, indicating that these plants had rooted themselves there naturally. As he had raised his head again to shake it in response, they were suddenly being attacked by a pack of dogs. There was only one idea that crossed his mind... "Do any of you know how to climb trees?!", the panic was rushing in full power now, "Maybe we can get higher where they can't reach us!"
  • AnxiousEnby:
Matt's furr stood on end as he let out a hiss of fear and anger "get away from me!". The neko looked at Imojen and stood infront of her, protecting her from all of the wild wolves
    Today at 5:47 PM
  • Zarko Straadi:
"We should back into the cave and defend the entrance so they can't surround us," Imojen said. At least, if Sidney's attempt at friendliness didn't work.
  • Diana:
CHOMP. No one should be surprised that a Scottish Terrier latched onto Sidney's hand. The rest of the dogs saw this as an opening and proceeded to bite chase and chomp at will.
  • Loveless:
"CAVE IT IS!", agreed Emmett, making a run for the entrance as fast as possible, hoping that the feral canines were more focused on Sidney than anyone else at the moment.
  • The Mood is Write:
Sidney just chuckled and petted the little terrier. "Aw, hey buddy, it's ok!" Except the other dogs suddenly began attacking, too. Shit. He rose and, dog still attached to his hand, he hurried the others back to the cave. "You guys get in! I'll tire the dogs out!" He wasn't going to hurt them. Dogs were innocents! He swept up any dog that tried to attack the others into a forced hug.
  • Zarko Straadi:
"BAD DOGS! BAD!" Imojen shouted, in hopes that remembrance of human ownership might give them pause. Maybe she shouldn't have felt a thrill of joy at the way Matt jumped in to interpose himself between her and the fierce dogs, but she did anyway. She thrust and swung with her stick to try to keep the dogs at bay as she retreated toward the cave. She kicked at the cooler, hoping to knock it over and open, just in case there might be food in it that the dogs could go after instead. She teeterd, and almost fell.
  • The Mood is Write:
The cooler did indeed teeter and fall, releasing ice, a few cans of beer, and a massive package of hot dogs—one of those bulk packs you sometimes saw at grocery stores.
  • The Mood is Write:
"Shake a beer can and spray it at the dogs!" Sidney called when he noticed the toppled cooler.
  • Loveless:
"What, no!", Emmett protested at the thought of animal cruelty, "Just thrown them the hot dogs and hope that'll distract them!", he yelled from inside the cave, felling useless yes, but not up for letting such an atrocity happen despite everything.
  • The Mood is Write:
"The beer won't hurt them! It just gets them off you long enough for you to open the hotdogs!" he called back.
  • Zarko Straadi:
Imojen wasn't aiming to hurt the dogs, but to keep their sharp teeth away from her and Matt's soft flesh.
  • Loveless:
Emmett had raised a finger in protest, but promptly put it back down as he saw his argument suddenly disarmed, sighing in resignation. "Just do whatever you want." This still didn't feel right though.
  • AnxiousEnby:
The neko watched as Imojen told the dogs who was boss, tail swaying as he pushed past Emmett rudely. "W-Wow!" he said softly, hissing at the animals.
  • The Mood is Write:
A bigger dog went in to bite Sidney, and he shoved his hand further in. The dog coughed and backed off quickly. "Back off, pupper!" Sidney warned. "Nobody here wants to hurt you!"
  • Zarko Straadi:
Imojen frowned. It didn't seem like Emmett was going to rise to the occasion. She handed her hiking stick to Matt. "Cover me?" she said, then headed for the cooler to grab a couple beer cans and start shaking.
  • AnxiousEnby:
He covered Imojen the second she asked him, fighting back all the other dogs. Once he had made them all go away, he rushed to Imojen's side to embrace her "hey, its going to be okay" Matt said slowly. The neko wrapped his tail around her softly and licked her cheek.
  • The Mood is Write:
Sidney helped keep the dogs off her, letting the dogs bite him, though for most that would be ill-advised. He figured if they clamped down on him, they weren't clamping down on anyone less sturdy.
  • Loveless:
As if feeling useless and being shut down so promptly wasn't enough, the so-called 'neko' had stumbled on Emmett as the other had passed by and entered the cave... It was too much in too little time, he had shot a glare towards Matt, filled by anger, and soon pulled it back. This definitely was the wrong time to start a fight, but, the emotion didn't seem to go anywhere, boiling just beneath the surface. He just sat down, no longer even watching the situation.
  • Zarko Straadi:
"Wahaha!" Imojen giggled as Matt's scratchy tongue streaked across her cheek, then she popped the tops on the cans and started spraying foamy beer at the dogs. "I'm not supposed to get into alcohol abuse at such a young age," she said. She winced at the sight of Sidney taking all those dog bites, and now she'd gotten beer on him in the process of warding off the dogs. "Matt, open that pack of hot dogs and scatter them away from the cave!" As the cans she held started to run out of "ammo," so she dropped them and grabbed a couple more.
  • The Mood is Write:
"Chalk it up to my bad influence," Sidney joked between bites, only to yelp as one got his butt.
  • AnxiousEnby:
He would purr softly as Imojen giggled , blush on his cheeks. The Neko watched as she poured beer on the dogs, them hissing and backing off. Matt instantly got the hot dogs and opened them, rushing out into the woods and throwing them far away so all the dogs started retreating. He looked at Sidney's wounds before ears twitching, licking one of his wounds as his saliva had healing properties.
  • The Mood is Write:
With the dogs mostly gone (the terrier remained latched to his hand), Sidney sighed in relief, then laughed. Most of his injuries were nothing but bruises. "Whoa hey, Matt, Gen might get jealous!" he joked.
  • The Mood is Write:
He seemed not to notice the little, clinging dog. Or at least, not to care.
  • Zarko Straadi:
"Gen?" Imojen said. It hadn't occurred to her that he might be giving her a nickname.
  • The Mood is Write:
"Uh... you," he said. "Sorry if that one's no good." He started to lift his hand to rub the back of his head, only to blink as he noticed the little dog. "I wonder if my foster family would let me keep... uh..." he rotated his hand, then nodded, "Keep him."
  • AnxiousEnby:
He would flush "H-Hey! She wouldn't get jelous". The Neko would move back to Imojen and licked her cheek in return so that she wouldn't be jelous.
  • Zarko Straadi:
"Wah?" Imojen looked quizzically at Sidney and his dangling terrier, briefly musing on the idea that Dangling Terrier could make a good band name, then shook her head to clear it. "Jealous?" She tilted her head curiously. "Ooooooooh," she said as understanding finally came. "Nope. Neko saliva contains natural antibiotics and enzymes that accelerate healing. If you and Matt don't mind, I think he should tend to all your wounds. Huh. Is that awkward?"
  • AnxiousEnby:
He would do as he was told and tended to all the wounds without getting Sidney's opinion. The Neko then got a fire going in the cave with the wood he had found when throwing the hot dogs.
  • The Mood is Write:
Sidney laughed as the tongue scraped and tickled at him, then he shook his head. "Alright alright, thanks Matt." He shook his head, then finally tried shoving his hand further into the terrier's mouth. It finally released, and he held it with a hand around its belly as he growled and tried again to bite him. He didn't seem at all bothered by the little thing's attempts, though. At the fire, he blinked. "Oh hey, yeah, it might get a bit chilly," he ceded, only to remember that the hot dogs had been all the food he brought. After a moment, he put the terrier down and scooted it towards the woods, letting to get going even as it looked back to growl and snarl like it was some big, bad, mean doggy.
  • Zarko Straadi:
"So, is everybody OK?" Imojen asked. That's when she noticed that the firelight wasn't the only thing flickering on the cave walls. She turned to look deeper inside. Instead of a shallow recess in the rock, the cave continued on, with stalactites and stalagmites that looked like alien teeth, sparkling eerily in shimmering green light that seemed to come from the unseen depths within.
  • The Mood is Write:
"Hm?" Sidney followed her intense stare deeper, then tilted his head. "Oh hey... that... that wasn't there before." He blinked a few times.
  • AnxiousEnby:
The Neko hissed at it, cowering into Imojen's lap and wrapping his tail around her. It was like a cat curled up in someones lap and he looked pretty adorable.
  • The Mood is Write:
"You guys wanna watch the entrance?" He started deeper. "I kinda wanna check... check it out..."
  • Zarko Straadi:
The light within the cave slowly started to brighten, and Imojen thought she could see small green orbs emerging from it, dancing among the stalactites and stalagmites. "I think it would be better to stick together..." Imojen said.
  • AnxiousEnby:
He nodded from her lap, trembling softly like a small child. The neko licked Imojen's hand because it was the only thing he could reech within his ball.
  • The Mood is Write:
Sidney blinked at the orbs, and his dark eyes widened. "Whoa... They're kind of pretty," he murmured.
  • AnxiousEnby:
Matt would suddenly get out of Imojen's lap, tilting his head as he smelt something unique in the air. He would slowly move out of the cave and use his cat vision to see into the darkness of the woods. The air was cold and smelt of forrest, the neko slowly sniffed the air and approached the bush that smelt different from the others. The ears on his head twitched before he took in a big wiff of catnip. He would allow his pupils to go wide, fur ruffling up.
  • The Mood is Write:
"Matt?" Sidney blinked, then turned his head to watch the cat suddenly leave. O-kay...
  • Zarko Straadi:
"...Yeah..." Imojen said. Suddenly, Matt jumped out of her lap and ran out into the darkness...to a bush? She turned her flashlight on him, and saw the way his hair was fluffed. "Uh...Matt? Are you OK?" She couldn't see or hear any threats in the woods, but then his feline senses would be better than hers.
  • AnxiousEnby:
He would quickly eat all of the catnip without thinking twice, having no idea on why someone would place that there. The Neko's hair would stand poofed up as he walked over to Imojen, purring deeply with his pupils wide. Matt giggled childishly whilst he purred, biting her arm in a playfully kitty way whilst sneezing lightly. "Why do I see rainbows on the ceiling?" he gasped.
  • The Mood is Write:
"Oh, god..." Sidney started to laugh. "He found the wild 'nip..."
  • Zarko Straadi:
"Uh..." Imojen looked up. Almost to her surprise, there weren't any rainbows on the ceiling...that she could see. "OK...maybe not the best time to get high, but..." Looking in the other direction, she saw one of the will-o-wisps touch a stalactite, and it changed to a different form.
  • AnxiousEnby:
Matt would purr as he licked Imojen's hand. He would wiggle around in her lap and reach up to start kissing her, being greedy with his kisses. The kisses turned into a full makeout session which Sidney had to watch uncomfortably.
  • Zarko Straadi:
"Uh-mnf!" Imojen tried to gently push Matt away. "Eh-eheeh, uh, you're intoxi-eheh, cated?" As she spoke, more of the floating green lights started to dance around, and as they danced the cave began to be replaced by rock. "Uh, uh, we'd better get out of here!" she said, trying to get up and pull Matt away from the strange lights.

  • AnxiousEnby:
The neko whimpered when she pulled him away from her lips, ears twitching as he sniffled dramatically “ I wanna go home”

  • The Mood is Write:
Sidney frowned at Imogen's comment, but when he saw what she was describing, his brows shot up. "Oh, uh, yeah...!" He picked up Matt and Imogen (and we'll say Emmett too) and carrie them out quickly. "This is a lot of nope," he muttered.
  • AnxiousEnby:
The neko was no happy when he was picked up, biting Sidney out of instinct before apologising and sulking. He looked over at Imojen and smiled at her “you look beautiful in that” before passing out to sleep. Matt was exhausted after all.

  • The Mood is Write:
Sidney blinked at the crashed cat, then shook his head. "So... where are you guys camping, anyway?"
  • Zarko Straadi:
"Uh...in that general direction, I think?" Imojen said, leading them through the woods that had replaced the trail they'd come here on. Eerie green will-o-wisps fluttered around them, changing the landscape with their touch. Every now and then they had to duck or dodge, until they came upon a tree...with a string tied around it, bow aimed toward a trail. "That way!" Imojen said, directing them down the trail. As they left the lights behind them, at last they found themselves, panting with exhaustion, in the campsite, where their fellow students, finally herded back together by their chaperones, all turned, giving them strange looks--for they must have been quite a sight indeed!
