NEW YEAR'S GALA
DECEMBER THURSDAY THE 31ST @ 2PM TO 5PM CENTRAL TIME

It's New Years Eve and you have gotten an invitation to THE most exclusive party in town. Of course, it's snowing like mad out there and there is a very big risk everyone will get trapped in this big cabin mansion rumored to be haunted by some deranged 60s hippy - but who cares! THE most exclusive party? Who would miss that!

The dress code is extravagent and formal. The theme - icicles and starlight. Don't forget to bring a gift for the hostess, Miss Fiona Lockwood, or she'll be so very disappointed.

EVENT INFO

WHO: Everyone is invited! Character Bios/Pics are not required, but totally encouraged! Post 'em if you got 'em.

WHAT: This is a modern contemporary roleplay! Supernatural content is allow, but it is a "secret" in this universe.

WHEN: DECEMBER THURSDAY THE 31ST @ 2PM TO 5PM CENTRAL TIME

WHERE: Join us in the NEW YEAR'S GALA chat room. You'll find the link to our chats in the CHAT tab when it's time to play.

HOW: This is a SOCIAL SETTING WITH IMPROVISATIONAL GAME MASTERING. That means the object of this roleplay is to interact with other characters, and from those interactions I will create a plot and story around you. Most of this roleplay will be socializing, with a splash of a problem and your characters will have to work together to resolve it. With this ChaRP "lol random" behaviors are discouraged -- what your character says and does will have in game consequences, so choose wisely!

My roleplays are always NEWBIE FRIENDLY so even if you are terrible at roleplay or have never participated in a ChaRP before, this will be easy for you to get involved in. :D Ask questions, let me know when you need help. I often give tips and direction out of character in the main chat room when people need a little direction.

EASY CHARP TIPS!

Try to show up a good 10 to 15 minutes before the ChaRP is to begin. That way you can read up on any important info, and it makes it easier for your GM to know how to start off the ChaRP when there's a head count.

Don't worry if another player is doing something similar to your idea. DO IT ANYWAY! Similarities and things in common happen in real life too. Everyone also plays differently, so two characters who are both "sweet and shy" will still end up being totally unique people. Two assassins could create a fun and interesting conflict!

Talking to other players about their character before the roleplay is a GREAT way to create connections and background for your own!

Post SHORT AND FAST. Charps are very quick pace and contain a LOT of players. Players can't wait 20 minutes for you to write a wall of text, and if there's too much text they won't be able to read it fast enough and will MISS details. If it takes you longer than two minutes to type your post, you are taking too long and might get lost in the action. This is an exercise in quick and concise writing!

Make sure your character name is mentioned in every post, close to the start of it if possible. This is especially helpful when there's many players, so we know who is playing what character.

Like in Real Life, a character may not be able to acknowledge or notice your character immediately because they are engaged in doing something else. (For example a new character walking in to the room, but the other characters arguing about muffins and do not see them.) Don't get discouraged if you go can't get someone to interact with you right away. Just keep posting and doing actions with your character, or even approach others who also seem to be idle and it WILL happen.

Do not take events in the roleplay personally or assume that bad reactions are because they think you/your character sucks. Everyone is playing a character and reacting to things as their character would!

I never thought I'd see Nolan in anything but colorful neons or traditional attire but, here we are! We improvise live folks >3<
As if I'd pass the chance to him freak-out about a real ghost, despite everything XD

One day these tabs will be fixed, one day...

  • Names: Nolan Adkins [喜び (Yorokobi)]

Aliases: Nol, Nolly, Nolley, Ad, Kin, Kinny [Kobi, Kobey]

    Gender: Male

    Ages: Sixteen [600+]

    Species: Menreiki

    Profession: Circus Clown

Description: Nolan looks like a blonde, 4' 8'' tall teenager, with blue eyes and an infantile and frail-looking physique that would prompt anyone to think that he's slightly younger than he actually is, or was. That, however, is nothing but a spirit-like projection. His true body consists solely of an Okame Noh mask, that he'll always be 'wearing'. When it is not being worn side-ways on his head, it is guaranteed to be tied on his back and hidden away by clothing.
  • History: Nolan Adkins had been born prematurely with a weak, fragile health. As if that wasn't bad enough, in the early years of his life, a strong respiratory disease had harmed his lungs to the point that little Nolan had acquired an incurable Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and needed to be constantly plugged to life support to live.

Ever since he was 4, a hospital room had become his world. All he had ever know were from books his parents brought him occasionally, souvenirs from trips, the radio and hospital crew conversations. He never had the opportunity to attend school and make friends but, several relatives came from very far away to visit him every month. They looked happy, they smiled but somewhere deep inside the boy knew they were hurting. That by being there, in such a condition he was hurting them, keeping his loved ones from moving on. At the same time, though he was able to read about the world and look at pictures, it would also bring him immense pain to not be able to see them in person.

At his sixteenth birthday, the teenager had decided that it was enough. Arguing and discussing ensued as Nolan begged at his family to please pull the plug on him. This was not a life worth living and the effort others kept making to pretend everything was fine... It hurt to see them put on happy faces when they were, in fact, miserable and worried. Both he and his relatives needed to move on. Eventually, they obliged, granting him a last wish of singing at his passing instead of crying. His favorite Christmas carol echoed through the hospital halls that afternoon and he felt loved as his short life slipped away without the help of the machines.

But it was not the end.

One of the souvenirs Nolan had received in life was an odd oriental mask, bought from an old man that had been clearing his attic, and hung on the room above the bed. Yorokobi as it called itself, was an Okame mask once used in actual Noh theatre performances, before being stored away in a chest for hundreds of years, forgotten. Longing the warmth of the stage-life again, year after year after year, it had eventually gained a conscience of its own. From the wall in the hospital room, it had watched the boy's struggle attentively, instantly noticing the similarities of both their situations. Nolan, a human with a flawed body, trapped in-between 4 walls to guarantee his survival, and it, the Menreiki dreaming about a life in the outside world that it without a physical form, a way to disguise itself would never be allowed to have... Two tragic beings, stuck in a position they despised.

Maybe that's why when the human had begun to leave the physical realm into the spiritual one, Yorokobi had decided to intervene. A soul calling for another, thinking that this kind of ending was rather... dull. The boy deserved more than that, especially after those lonely nights, feeling like a burden, wondering why he was still there. The wishes of one and the other would overlap, mix, merge. Two became one.

After Nolan's passing, all of his belongings got given and sold away because they were too painful to see. After passing by a couple of hands and storage boxes, the mask had ended up in the display of an antique/souvenir shop where for the first time, unwatched and in an ample space it could roam and begin making sense of the world around him. With no memories from before, Nolan would fiddle with objects and books around the store having to re-learn a lot of things. As such, those were often found moved out of place, or just slightly skewed from their initial positions in the morning, which the owner started attributing to themselves forgetting they had done such thing.

Then one day they left, ready to explore the world outside the store where an unconscious longing for performing would lead Nolan to a travelling-circus. Nowadays, it is his home, both a way to satiate the stage-life itch and a ticket to see the world, including all of the wonderful things on it.
    .

Personality: Nolan Adkins despite having died at age 16, acts just as a 10-year-old kid would. Due to not knowing much about the world, he is very curious about everyone and everything, often making LOTS of questions to others, that might find such a disruptive habit annoying. He loves nature and sightseeing, even the simplest things like a park or a fountain are enough to wow him. No matter how bad the present might seem, Nolan considers the gift of life precious and special. Living by itself is the greatest joy of the universe.

This boy loves talking and it's an open book when it comes to private or personal questions. It is incredibly easy to befriend him, yet equally easy to make him hate someone. A tiny flicker or cruelty and evil intent are all it takes for the little clown to start avoiding, or outright fearing, someone.

He also seems to own quite an enormous reserve of energy, being one to bounce this and that way, quickly changing subjects or tasks and engaging in interactions with different people. Nolan loves exploring the circus in his free-time, visiting others in their rooms and such just to make casual conversation. If allowed, he would be ecstatic to visit the town in a bit of a tour. Not needing food or feeling physical tiredness anymore helps this a lot.

Nolan deeply enjoys performing. He's longed to return to the stage for centuries and being in front of a crowd fills him with both excitement and a nostalgic feeling of similarity. He was literally created for this!! How could he not love it? The boy also truly dislikes seeing people sad and will try everything in his power to make them feel better. He also considers himself a good judge of emotions given that well, he is the representation of one after all. However, he also believes in anything that is said to him, being one to assume everyone is nice until proven the opposite. He'll often get used and tricked in return, yet, the childish and bright personality hardly wavers.

Being one of a submissive disposition, Nolan has no strength to stand up for himself, alone. That is something that gets worse when added to his constant insecurity about his choices, given that he is never truly 100% sure of a decision he made and will apologize too much to someone if he feels like he has wronged them... What happens with a certain frequency since he is too honest and can sound harsh without meaning it at times.
  • --Skills--

    Making puns;
    Balloon animals;

    Unicycle riding;
    Incredibly light-weight;
    Some super basic juggling;
    Average pocket trumpet playing;

    --Belongings--

    Pocket trumpet;
    Multiple juggling balls;
    A rubber chicken called 'Frida';
    A package of colorful thin balloons;
    A seemingly endless assortment of candy;
Other tricksy party knick-knacks, including a kendama and a yo-yo.

    --Magic--

    Joyful inspiration:
Like its name (and similar to the entity it portrays), Yorokobi can inspire pleasant sensations of happiness, tranquillity and peace to the people around it. The effects depend on the person, to more empathic individuals being prone to receive stronger feelings, but in general, it makes an audience more acceptive of sillier performances and helps angry or stressed individuals to calm down a lot faster. Those sensitive to magic will be able to see a light-yellow mist seemingly leaving the teen's location, whereas normal people won't see a thing change and simply feel happier.

Into the shell: Nolan may choose to retract his spirit-like form back into the Noh mask. It's a state where he's left in a sort of standby mode, able to only listen to its surroundings. It's very useful for hiding when whoever he's hiding from doesn't know anything about his true nature and makes it so that Nolan doesn't need much space for himself. In fact, he could live contently inside an items closet for as long as it is not too tight.

Pain immunity: Given that his true form is solely the mask he wears, the spirit-like projection can be stabbed, burnt and everything you have a right to and it will not bleed, react the damage. If anything, akin to a ghost, physical objects he's not actively interacting with will simply go through his shape. If the mask is scratched or broken, however, the opposite then applies. Breaking said vessel in half will surely erase his existence from the earthly plane, forcibly expelling Yorokobi into the spirit realm.

Additional Notes: It is unknown whether the soul residing in the mask (that calls itself Yorokobi, Joy in Japanese) and soul of the diseased Nolan have merged into a single entity or whether the Youkai had connected with the struggle of the perpetually hospitalized teen so deeply it confused itself. Whichever the truth is, it has undoubtedly taken the identity of Nolan Adkins to itself, truly believing to be, in fact, the teenager. As such, he may use 'we', talk about Kobi in the third-person or use the normal first-person, depending on the context or situation. Physical or ability matters are Yorokobi's and emotional or mental matters are attributed to Nolan.

Has the interesting habit of describing emotions and happenings with the usage of Japanese onomatopoeia, as if their meanings were common sense, which they are not.

1609189755941.pngName: Giovanna Medici
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Orientation: Bisexual
Bio:

Giovanna is descended from the Medicis of Florence via a secondary branch of the Family, the Princes of Ottajano. She was born with a deformed left leg, which caused her continuous pain and made it impossible for her to walk without a brace and crutches. She spent her early childhood in and out of hospitals, but multiple surgeries failed to correct her condition.

This made her something of an outcast in her Family, as it ensured that she would not be able to be the sort of child or young woman who would present well at the parties and social functions of remnant Aristocracy.

From a young age, Giovanna found refuge in the realm of computers and high technology. She learned to code and tinkered with robotics and 3-D printers. Her time in hospitals spawned an interest in medical technology, and how it might be used to transcend the limits of the human condition. It turned out that providing her with tutoring in the areas that interested her was a good way to keep her hidden away.

While her siblings went to soirees and cotillions, living off the laurels of the past, Giovanna was determined to create a place for herself in the future. She saved her allowance, and invested some of it in a diversified growth-oriented tech portfolio.

As soon as she was of age, she had her left leg amputated just below the knee, and began wearing bespoke prosthetics of her own design. These usually include technological enhancements such as robotic mobility, flash-memory storage, and a wifi hotspot that links her devices and wearable computer tech into a "body-net" with 5G connectivity.

Giovanna used her saved money to found Integrity Technologies, a robotics and software company that started with advanced prosthetics with integrated machine-learning software and sensors able to detect neural signals and translate them into mechanical motion. The company branched out into remote-control robotics and non-military drones for civilian and search-and-rescue use, and is expanding into home robotics. The company also has a biosciences branch that develops cutting-edge medical technology, while developing applications for CRISPR gene-editing and synthetic biology.

Her company recently released Geoscope, a hybrid social media/crowdfunding/Big Data platform that allows users to access, contribute to, and collate vast streams of data about the condition of the Earth and humanity, from global weather and disaster information, to pollution, to poverty and health statistics, identify problems, and join with others to crowdfund solutions and arrange trade and utilization of resources. Geoscope includes a Solution Inventory of the various projects supported, including feedback on how well they have worked. Machine learning and generative design algorithms integrate and streamline the data for users and help them design new solutions to problems.

Giovanna is committed Transhumanist, and has presented at TED, Singularity University, the World Economic Forum, and SXSW.

Personality:

Giovanna is extremely intelligent, with a wide range of interests; a true Renaissance woman. At work, she has a cool and logical air, but not like a Vulcan, no. More like a Romulan. She can hold a grudge like nobody's business, and can calculate the perfect Xanatos Gambit to make sure any wrong against her or anyone she cares about gets avenged. She's either passionate about something, or it's beneath her notice. She wants to enhance her capabilities in whatever ways she can, and do likewise for others. She is committed to making the world a better place through the integration of technology and biology.

She has a room-filling charisma, and is always ready to be an evangelist for the promise of technology, humanity, and a better future. Giovanna flaunts her physicality in over-the-top couture high-fashion with a futuristic flair. Her almost manic passion for life and flashy self-expression can sometimes get on people's nerves. She's a risk-taker and trouble-maker, and this has served her well enough so far, especially in business.

1609205544849.pngName: Lliira Lockwood (of the Edinburgh Lockwoods)
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Orientation: Heterosexual
Bio:

Lliira's parents are obsessed with Success, both economic and social. So naturally it was a great disappointment when their daughter turned out to be, not a winsome debutante or even a hard-driving would-be executive, but a shy, bookish girl with a nervous stutter, whose taste in books centered on the occult, the arcane, and the strange. Her albinism was only an icing on her cake of...well, let's not say failure, that would affirm the negative, and the first step to Success is a positive mindset!

Unfortunately, no amount of positive affirmations could prevent the prep-school girls from eating Lliira alive. Nor could they prevent her from retreating ever further into her studies and meditations and...shall we say...unusual practices involving wands and candles and chalices and such? Spirituality--yes, we'll call it that, because her mother and father rarely had time to attempt to steer her toward more practical pursuits, and it wasn't as if an owl was going to show up with her invitation to Hogwarts.

The governesses she grew up with couldn't be bothered to help much in that regard. I suppose they might say they weren't paid well enough to truly raise Lliira to become someone who mattered, rather than leaving her to her own devices as long as she was never a behavior problem they had to deal with. Besides, it's not as if a governess could be a proper model of Success now, is it?

And so, while she got nearly perfect grades in school, she never managed to have any friends or be invited to any parties. Instead, as she entered her teens she began using her spare time to study dead languages of all things: Latin, Greek, ancient Egyptian, and Sumerian, so she could read peculiar old texts in the original. For a time, her parents didn't really know what to do except indulge her interests and hope it was just a phase she was going through, one she might perhaps grow out of as soon as she started to become interested in boys. Unfortunately, prep-school boys were at least as nasty to her as prep-school girls if not worse, so Lliira never developed any crushes. 1609208736364.png

Her 16th birthday came and went with no signs of improvement. There was really only one thing her poor mother and father could think of to do: arrange for her to spend some time with her aunt Fiona in America, during the lead-up to Fiona's great New Year's Gala. Everyone who was anyone was going to be there, and surely there could be no one better than Miss Fiona Lockwood to prepare Lliira for her high society debut.

Personality:

Lliira is painfully shy, and very quiet. She even moves with an eerily silent grace, so that she seems to appear and disappear like a spirit. When not forced to wear a school uniform, she wears flowing gowns and hooded cloaks (the latter shield her from sunlight, which burns her easily). She has a soft voice with a Scottish accent. All together, it is as if she is an exchange student from Middle Earth.

She always has a book with her, usually some obscure arcane tome, like the Grimoire of Abramelin the Mage, a volume from the Vedas, or a copy of The Corpus Hermeticum or the Enuma Elish with interlinear translation. When she does not expect to encounter other teenagers who might maliciously take it from her, she also carries her journal, a leather-bound book containing mystic diagrams and writings in a cypher based on the Voynich script, along with blank pages remaining to be filled.

tumblr_mmg4bfE3YC1qkwxnzo1_400.gif
Abilities:

Lliira has never told anyone that she can see auras, and feel the presence of magical currents such as ley lines and the delineation around a consecrated space.

Her spell-casting does not always work, but when it does, it results in a synchronicity that provides her what she hoped for, or perhaps something unexpected that turns out to be better in some way. On occasion, she has been able to cause people to not notice her for a time (a challenge, given her distinctive looks), or just leave her alone.

She can see nature spirits, but has had little opportunity to try to interact with them, since anyone seeing her talking to something they couldn't see would surely regard her as insane.

Her Tarot readings can sometimes warn her of trouble ahead, or provide useful insights into herself or others. However, they are always subject to interpretation, so she is not infallible.

From time to time, she may have a dream, vision, or flash of insight, though these are not things she can conjure at will. They too are subject to interpretation, and operate according to the alien logic of the supernatural, so they do not always provide straightforward guidance.

WELCOME TO THE NEW YEAR'S GALA CHARP!

  • Diana:
This is a modern setting where supernatural exists but it is on the "downlow" and the world doesn't believe in it.

  • Diana:
IMPORTANT! Type FAST. Write BRIEF. Charps are quick-paced. If you take too long to write you might get left behind. If your posts are too long, people can miss important details. Keep posts to to around 10 sentences or less!

  • Diana:
HOT TIP! Put your character name in the first sentence of each post. You can also use bbcode color to help differentiate your posts from others. It's extra handy if you play multiple characters.

  • Diana:
Game Master posts appear in this bright bold yellow. Pay attention to those because they are guiding the plot and giving you hits on what to do next.

You arrived at a beautiful extra large cabin home in the woods. It's decked out with pretty lights and there's some real hip dancy tunes playing inside! Snow is everywhere. Food and drinks are everywhere. This is going to be one groovy party!

  • Loveless:
"Woooow~!" Nolan was already amazed at everything. The size of the house, the pretty kirakira lights, the fuwafuwa piles of snow that made him want to jump on it as if in a bed... It was amazing! Everything was fantastic and so fun to look at!! And then the music, he had no idea of what that was but it was so bouncy and so filled with life! The blonde boy didn't know how to dance yet, he knew a loooot of circus related things, but not much more beyond that. Oh well! This was going to be fun! In a complete opposition to both the type of party and their formal attire, Nolan rushed right in like a kid into a toy store on their birthday.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Giovanna swept into the main room, the Svarovsky crystal icicles of her prosthetic sparkling in counterpoint to the decorative lights. Briefly, her mind went back to the parties of her girlhood; alone, in pain, barely able to walk, much less dance. Even though this was not a gathering of Windsors and Hohenzollerns and descendants of cousin Romanovs, it still felt a little like returning to those days as a conqueror.

  • Vellichor:
Vell wasnt sure she would come, but the idea of the house being haunted was intriguing and so she found herself moving up the stairs and into the house. Her lithe frame swaying lightly with the music on its accord. Hazel eyes looking at the grand house in awe ...seeing a table she placed the gift bag on a nearby table for the host..or an offering for the house..

  • Diana:
"Welcome, welcome! Please come in and enjoy the refreshments. They used real spam in the filo! Isn't that adorable?" exclaimed Miss Fiona Lockwood, the hostess of the party. She was quite the elderly woman, decked out in a shimmery maroon dress and more jewels than anyone had any business of wearing, and still a gorgeous lady.

  • The Mood is Write:
Rare arrived, a slender and graceful young woman. Her delicate dress, all silver and gray, gave her pale features a soft rosiness. She placed a couple old coins with the gifts, and then a beautifully wrapped gift. Without a word, she began to enjoy the decor. She still needed to wait for her master's arrival.

  • The Mood is Write:
Rare curtsied to the hostess and signed that the woman looked beautiful, a warm smile on her face.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Lliira had to resist the temptation to hide behind Aunt Fiona as Giovanna approached and placed a small velvet-covered gift box with the others. It contained a fob for a Tesla Roaster with the new 6080 battery pack. These weren't available to the public yet, but there were benefits to knowing Elon personally. Of course Lliira didn't know what the box contained; she just knew it would be something expensive. How am I supposed to outshine someone like that?! she thought. I'm glad Mother and Father couldn't be here. They'd never let me live it down.

  • Loveless:
Oh, right! Nolan had immediately come to a halt, despite being half-way inside the lobby already and backtracked, literally, when he noticed people were leaving gifts on a table. The shortish blonde boy on a azure and white suit with gold details and sparkles resembling a starry sky on the fabric, had stopped by the location deep in thought as to what he should leave there... Well, they didn't have much, but most of these things could be easy replaced too... After a couple minutes of indecision, he pulled out two halves of a Diabolo rotated them together to make the full piece sturdy and put it together with the strings/sticks to catch it and a pile of assorted candy with the other fancier gifts. People like those, right? They were veeery amusing to use! And then he was off again to admire the walls and decor as if it was a museum.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Richard White could have sworn he had been stabbed with a knife a week ago. He could have sworn he had been killed at a different party. But here he was at this strange one. Maybe he shouldn’t worry. He should be used to the strange. “ Thank you for having us,” Richard replied calmly and casually while internally he wondered how worried he should be.

  • Zarko Straadi:
What is that? Lliira thought, noticing a curious wisp of golden mist. She glanced at Aunt Fiona (her great-aunt actually, but the lady preferred 'Aunt'), wondering if she was supposed to wait for Fiona to 'introduce' her or something, of if she could just go 'mingle,' or to be more precise, avoid mingling altogether.

  • CarnelianUndead:
Tadhg Dohey had managed to park his muddied suv with the other and nicer cars in the midst of the snow storm and get himself inside and snow-free. His hair was mostly white now, decades of sunshine and weather had bleached it from a fair strawberry blond. He had dressed in his nicest sports coat with the tweed patches on the elbows. His face was a bit craggy but there was humor and gentleness there as he waded through the people. He was a sometimes biology teacher and most of the time he was an angler. "Fiona! It was so nice of you to invite me since I was home!" His voice was warm and jovial, and he clasped the elderly woman's hand with his own worn ones.

  • Dawn:
Garren looked like he might not want to actually be here. An older man, his blond-turning-silver undercut and full beard hinted at how many decades he'd been alive, the bit of lint on his otherwise pristine black suit said that he didn't care all THAT much about showing off. Mostly he just looked bored, lounging by the refreshments and sipping the wine. The truth was, he would rather be back at his clinic, taking his fair share of the work. New Year's Eve and his poor overworked staff were saddled with chores and cranky patients. But, Fiona was a friend, having donated often to his clinic and Garren was a man who showed appreciation where due.

  • Vellichor:
As others began to arrive, the sparkle and glam of their attire outfits. A tinge of pink glowed on her cheeks, but she never let the thought of her less fortunate state bring her down. Her dress was simple, but to add a bit of flare, she used some cheap glitter to give her face a bit of sparkle. Seeing the others, she followed suit, and smiled to the hostess, she and her home were every bit of lovely as everyone that was showing up. Looking to the female that signed, she worked up the courage to talk as well. "Thank you for having us, you have a wonderful home." she said, speaking softly and politely, a kind but shy soul. Her gaze drifting to the female behind the hostess, and offering an even gentler smile. As more came forward, Vell found herself slipping away to get out of the way.

  • Diana:
"Llirra darling, why don't you make Auntie a plate of food," she said almost suspiciously at the perfect moment. "Taddy, you darling! I'm so glad you could make it. Have you met Richard? He's a real dick occasiona- Oh How about this treasure Vell!"

  • The Mood is Write:
Rare took a cue from Vella and also moved away, offering a smile to any she noticed looking at her. She frankly didn't know anyone there, but the hostess had apparently heard of the strange young woman who wandered into the local city, lost and voiceless, but capable. Also, lucky enough to find employment quickly and someone willing to help her get papers and an identity. Rare Praedseddur.

  • CarnelianUndead:
Well that was Fiona Lockwood for you! Tadhg laughed and gave a nod to the others he'd been introduced. "How do you do?" Was his polite comment, and he slipped away and towards the bar. He was rarely home except for the occasional class and drinking was not done when he was fishing! So he was getting snowed on at a fancy party and by jove he was going to have a drink! Or six! When was the last time he'd gotten smashed?

Rare found herself at the bar and not far from a man who looked eager to drown himself in drink. Frankly, she wanted similar! She needed to find a Master, but none had taken her in. She smiled at the bartender and gently pulled a bottle of gin from his hand after he poured a drink for someone else.

  • Dawn:
A small, shy thing smiled his way and Garren nodded and smiled in return. He certainly wasn't impolite and he wasn't going to sit there like a lump on a log the whole night and sour everyone's mood. Bringing in the new year was worth celebrating and he hoped this one would be kinder to his patients.

  • Loveless:
A house was soooo much different than the circus tents! It was made of wood too, which kinda had Nolan wondering how many trees had been used for building this place, it looked huuuuuuuge!! There was also a fireplace, he remembered seeing one back in the antique shop, but it was another experience to see one that was in use... The fire was pretty, scary in a way, but definitely pretty, made him think of home and the fire-eaters, but also troupe night gatherings around a bonfire that were almost like camping. Eventually he had sat down by it, feeling a nostalgic sense of familiarity. Even if they could not feel its warmth exactly, it was still warm in a different way. He liked it there. It was nice.

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Yes ma'am, Lliira said, then slipped away silently to do as requested--well, to let the kitchen staff do as requested. They weren't about to let an amateur encroach on their territory. Soon she was able to start to glide back toward Aunt Fiona, plate held with one hand, glass of wine with the other, nervously watching to avoid collision. She tensed a little, eyes going wide as she started to steer around the tech billionaire. Between her platform shoes, up-do of shiny black hair, and tall hat, Giovanna seemed to tower over her. "Excuse me," Giovanna said with a smile, stepping aside to let her past. Relieved at her apparent kindness, Lliira opened her mouth to reply, but nothing would come out. She gave her a fleeting smile and continued on her way. "Here you are, ma'am," she said to Aunt Fiona.

  • Vellichor:
The house was warm and so far, everyone seemed nice. Vell wasn't used to that..so when her name was called, her heart seized in her chest, but she quickly shook off the unwarranted feelings of the past. This was a new place. Looking up as her name was called, she looked to the hostess and the people she was introducing to her. "Hi"... HI? Wow, she was lame, and needed to learn social skills fast. Her plan to come in, get warm, and free food, was quickly turning, but she could do this. Hazel eyes, shadowed, but she struggled to push the past behind. No one really knew her, here.

  • Diana:
With most of the guests having arrived, the cabin doors were locked up tight so the blustery winter wind wouldn't blow them open. Miss Fiona gave her niece a nice little pat on the head. "What a wonderful helper, you are. Why, I see an older gentleman right over there," she gestured towards Garren. "Will you tell him that he can toast those buns over by the fire, for Auntie?"

  • CarnelianUndead:
Tadhg smiled at the dark haired young woman at the bar and lifted his glass towards her as she took the entire bottle of gin from the bartender. "Cheers, love. I see we're both after the same thing tonight." He winked and then drained the glass. Fish were his entire world but he could socialize with the class he'd been born into.

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Yes ma'am," Lliira said, then headed over toward him. As she crossed the room, she saw more of the curious mist. It curled and swirled, shimmering with golden light, as if it was made of sunny day. People passed through it without seeming to notice its presence, raising the intriguing possibility that it was not some mundane product of a fog-machine. She pulled her attention away from it so she could continue her mission. "E-excuse me sir," she said to Garren, "Aunt--M-miss Lockwood...would like...to in-vite you t-to warm yourself b-by the fire." As she turned toward the fireplace with her gesture, she saw the source of the mysterious mist: a young boy with golden hair and a bright smile. The mist seemed to spread out from him, gradually filling the room, seemingly invisible to the party-goers.

  • Dawn:
Garren's smile was a gentle one as the nervous woman approached; it was the kind of genuine smile that made his crow's feet more pronounced and brought a twinkle to his gray eyes. He liked meeting new people but he liked familiar people more. "Hello Miss Lliira. Fiona wants me framed by firelight, does she now?" he chuckled over the rim of his wine glass. "I'll gladly oblige." He offered Lliira a charming little wink and strolled toward his designated spot, catching Fiona's gaze along the way and hiking one silver eyebrow at her as if to ask her what she was up to.

  • Diana:
Miss Fiona looked as innocent as could be, which knowing the Lockwood woman, wasn't that innocent at all. In fact, anyone that knew their incense could probably pick up the hints of something intoxicatingly delightful all throughout the cabin. It certainly wasn't marijuana, but... it certainly gave a nice relaxing vibe to all attending party members.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Lliira blinked, wondering how the man knew her name. But then he cast a look toward Aunt Fiona, so maybe she had come up in conversation between them at some point? She smiled back at Garren, then headed toward the fireplace more or less in his wake. There was a pleasant scent in the air, and as she experimentally touched the golden mist with a hand, she felt an inner warmth that seemed to melt her nervousness away. "Hello," she said to the boy. "I'm Lliira Lockwood. Are you enjoying the party?" she said, pleasantly surprised at how the words came out smoothly instead of in a stammer.

"I know the feeling. I am with you there, I'm not a big party guy either. But here we are!" He said cheerfully, he was feeling nice and relaxed right now. More so than he normally felt at one of these functions. "I'm Tadhg Dohey, a fisherman and biologist and sometimes teacher." He smiled. "And you are?" He gazed around the room, eyeing all the guests with a warm pleasant feeling. ... Huh. He knew this feeling. Was he a bit buzzed already?

  • Vellichor:
Although Vell wasn't rude by any means, conversing with others was not one of her best traits. Being in a social gathering was one sure fire way for a panic attack to take hold, but although she was prepared for one, and she felt the stirrings of ones, it never came about. Was the self help books paying off? She was still wondering how her name was known, but oddly her panic never rose. Surreal.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Giovanna tilted her head slightly, noticing a peculiar vibe of relaxation in the air. She didn't go to parties like this very often, but when she did, boredom set in quickly, and with it an antsy desire to have a tablet or a Google Glass so she could open her design software and make more productive use of her time. Somehow, she wasn't feeling that way. Then she noticed a towering hulk of a man who seemed to be oscillating between the relaxation of the others, and an on-edge tension. She wondered if he might be some kind of agent or plainclothes security officer. "Not a party animal?" she said, striding confidently up to him. "Me neither. Giovanna Medici," she said, elegantly offering him a hand.

Richard took a deep breath, in and out. He needed to leave. This wasn’t right. He stared down at his necklace, the single mermaid tear. His mos prize possession. The one he- no, there was no room in his life for happiness. Happiness was weakness. There was money in sadness. .... so why was it that he couldn’t sell it? “So.... what food do you have to offer?”

At the hostess' request, Garren settled by the fire, finding a nice cozy loveseat to occupy one half of while he finished off his glass of wine. He had entertainment at least, watching Lliira interacting with the young lad he hadn't quite noticed 'til now. He found it a bit odd that Fiona would invite a teenager to a social event, especially one with some...relaxing herbs. But then again, there was something interesting about this lad, wasn't there?

  • Loveless:
Nolan had apparently been so overjoyed at everything that as he reminisced and dwelt in nice and pleasant memories, it had triggered Yorokobi's power without him meaning to. Oops! As he had opened his eyes again and saw the familiar mist surround the place he had curled up a tad in embarrassment. Weeeell, at least everyone was happy now? But oh, this was... Actually, not a first, the trigger for this thing was weird sometimes okay?? Now that he was aware of it, the effect had begun to slowly die out as did the mist to those that could see it. Coincidentally, now there was a girl with pretty white hair talking to him, to which he had quickly straightened up and smiled in return. "Oh yeah! More than I realized it, it seems!!", there was still embarrassment on his tone, but highly overpowered by amusement, then he promptly got up in an energetic hop, "I'm Nolan, Nolan Adkins! You have an interesting name, is it spelled like the instrument?"

Giovanna raised an eyebrow. "I'm in tech," she replied. She had some thoughts of getting into vertical farming or ocean aquaculture, but of all her business ventures, she owned not one restaurant. "The buffet table is over there," she said, gesturing to it. "I haven't looked it over yet."

  • CarnelianUndead:
"Rare? Interesting choice of names." Tadhg smiled and then gestured for another gin in his glass before meandering through the room with his cut crystal glass. It was a delightful party, especially with whatever was floating in the air. It wasn't a patch on fishing, but it wasn't bad to be on dry land every so often. He noticed a gentleman of his own age and waltzed over to introduce himself. "Hullo there." He said with grin. "Tadhg Dohey, and you are?"

  • Zarko Straadi:
Lliira watched the mist start to fade, and tried to hide her disappointment. Whatever it was, it was fascinating; she wasn't really sure how to go about asking the boy about it, since he would probably want to pretend it didn't exist. "It's...two L's, two I's, R, A." She hesitated for a moment, then decided to risk it. In a low voice for Nolan's ears only, she said, "That mist...what is it?"

Strange, was it a paranormal phenomenon? Had she witnessed something otherwordly? How cool! Somewhat scary though. The feeling began to fade and she started to feel like herself. Moving to the food, not hovering, but it was just out for the taking. Skipping the green and leafy, she made a small plate, a chicken wing to her lips, she bit and chewed... the lights changing..mmm rich people...

  • Loveless:
"L-L-I-I-R-A?", Nolan had spelled it for confirmation, a curious but mildly confused expression on his face. Well, he knew plenty of people with fancy name spellings at this point, "I've never seen it spelled like that before, that's cool! And very unique~!" Unfortunately, the pleasant exchange hadn't lasted for long, as soon as the other had whispered the question at him, the little formal-dressed clown had frozen on the spot with dread. She could see it??? There were other magical people in the room?? Oh no, that just made his mishap worse! "U-uhhhh", his light blue gaze darted to the sides, as if looking for an escape and yet that'd so rude to do, so he wouldn't. To him, who had no idea about anything the music changing was abrupt but normal and so were the colorful flashing lights. "It's not that simple to explain and...", he had given Fiona's direction a little quick glance, "I can't do it in public." Or rather, it would be really weird to do so, because no one would believe anything.

  • Diana:
Also strange was that no one ever really noticed what Miss Fiona Lockwood was up to until she wanted them to. She was now sitting on top of a grand piano, lighting up a pipe. "The 60s was such a long time ago, but sometimes it feels like it was only yesterday," she remarked to no one in particular. "Why, I remember when me and Billy Dean threw the best of parties and we smoked so much sticky that when you opened the door, you walked into a wall of smoke..."

  • Dawn:
"Garren Kelly," the 'gentleman' replied, but not before letting his gaze travel from Tadhg's shoes to his face. He rose from his seat and offered a firm handshake, crooked grin on his lips. "Do I sense a fellow outdoorsman?" he inquired, sinking back to his seat and nodding at the spot next to him. Of course that was when things started to get a bit crazy. "Fiona... what weird herbs did you drug us with this time?" he sighed to himself, pinching the bridge of his nose.

Lliira had an odd feeling about the sudden change of lights and music, but now Aunt Fiona was at the piano reminiscing about the '60's, so she decided it had to be alright. Much more worrisome was the boy's reaction to her question. "I'm sorry! I--I didn't mean to, to make y-you feel...un..uncomfortable," she stammered. "I...I thought it was b-beautiful..."

"I think it's just pot, Garren. Or hell, I hope it is." Tadhg laughed as he took the man's hand for a firm shake and settled into the love seat with him, crossing his legs an ankle over the opposing knee. "I'm an angler and a biologist and sometimes teacher. What sort of outdoorsy things do you like?" He cast a look at the man. "Hunter? You seem the type to saddle up a horse and keep hounds." He teased.

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Wha?" Giovanna said. It looked for all the world as if a huge joint appeared in the big man's mouth. She might have assumed it was some kind of slight-of-hand, except he seemed to be as surprised by it as she was.

  • Dawn:
Now that one brought a chuckle to his lips, and he supposed he agreed with Tadhg's observations, but he shook his head gently in opposed to the slight grit of his deep voice. "I do hunt, but strictly for meat and never for sport. Deer and moose mostly. As for what outdoorsy things I like, I suppose my job runs fairly parallel? I run the wildlife rescue just outside of town and I have a soft spot for raptors in particular... I'd say you quite fit the bill for an angler, what with the calluses on your hand. Fishing line tends to do that."

  • Loveless:
"No, it's okay!", Nolan had immediately tried to reassure her without even thinking, "Okay maybe it's not, I mean, this wasn't even supposed to happen... This is on me, I didn't expect to see other... Magic people??", what the heck even are they?, "That, in here tonight. We normally just walk around town and no one notices anything weird.", except for that trip to Japan, that had been the peek of weird. But, beautiful huh? He supposed Kobey's power was quite pretty to look at and it was so full of happiness too!

Of course as Taddy insisted it was just pot, things around the cabin started lookin' real groooooovy. Even Miss Fiona looked a little surprised. "Oh dear. I may have also paid a little gremlin of a man for something to spice up our evening. Nothing to be concerned about, honestly!"

It wasn't the gremlin Richard was expecting, but the tiny dude in an awful bell bottom suit wasn't expected to be alive either. "It's your favorite party guuuuuy!" Fiona shouted. "BILLY DEAN! "Once you add my hat, I'm so stereotypical I could be an add for fishing reels." Tadhg laughed but oh that was interestinnnnng. A wild life rehabilitator! "Raptors, hm? Do you fly hawks then? I always had an interest in falconry, but fishing is what really holds my heart. I love fish. Catch and release is the name of the game for me. I rarely eat them. I'd much rather measure and count them and get some photos." He was starting to get... just delightfully high. He finished the glass of gin in one eager swallow. "Fuck..." He slid down a little. "Miss Fiona is really determined to relieve the sixties, isn't she?"

"...Is this normally how these parties go?", Nolan had asked Lliira with legitimate confusion, but not enough panic yet as he wasn't entirely sure. He knew one thing though, 'Billy Dean' didn't sound like a woman's name. Also what is a gremlin?? He felt awfully out of the loop.

  • Diana:
"He's DEAD, for one! And doesn't belong in this realm!" Fiona tried to explain. "He-" "BABE! Babe. It's the New Years Caveat, baby." He sashayed out and pointed at every lady he deemed good-looking and made a kissy face. Poor Llira and Rare were in the crossfire. And Garren for some reason. "Who wants to come with Billy Dean into the closet of looooove?"

  • Dawn:
"We rescue a lot of hawks, yes; however, I do favor owls. It's terrible, I know, because it's like a father choosing a favorite child." He chuckled, a bit more heartily than was probably required, thanks to the influential incense. At the mention of Fiona, Garren cast his gaze over to her and...watched the bizarre scene unfold. "Did that cadaver just kissy face at me?"

  • Zarko Straadi:
"I've never...met...other 'magical people,'" Lliira said. "I'm not even sure I'm...I...study and practice...magic...but...you're different," she said. "But in a good way," she added hurriedly. She'd never seen an aura like his before. Instead of a faint shimmery outline around his body, his seemed more concentrated, centered around his chest; brighter, more powerful, radiant in overlapping colors of joy and mirth, almost like an internal stage light. Before she could wonder about it, a very strange man...no, not a man...entered. Her mind flashed back to a Tarot reading: the Hierophant reversed, and the Devil in the center of her spread. Her jaw dropped when he made a kissy-face at her. If it were possible for her to be more pale, she would have. She shook her head and huddled closer to Nolan.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Giovanna turned away from the big guy. He wasn't making the least bit of sense for one thing. For another, everything in the cabin seemed to be taking on a rainbow tinge. And that was before the weirdo in the hippy costume turned up. She imperiously disregarded hippy weirdo's scattershot advances and moved away, looking for someone more interesting to talk to.

  • CarnelianUndead:
"I hear owls are the very devil to traiiiin?" Tadhg trailed off and stared at the ... dead man. "What in the bloody hell was that?" He blinked. "Either we're very very high or that is a dead man and he totally kissy-faced at you. I'm. God that is a terrible outfit, by the way. It hasn't aged well at all."

  • Diana:
"Goodness, Llira, darling this is not how I wanted to introduce you to the talented side of the family, I-" "FAMILY? Well slap my ass and call me Twiggy! No, no- Call me Uncle Billy Dean!" At this point Fiona just gave in to the nonsense. "Oh hell. We may as well party hard, darlings! They say when a madman dances disco at midnight, you're bound to have a good year! Everyone raise a glass to toast. TO LOVE, HEALTH, AND STRANGE HAPPINESS!"

  • Loveless:
Nolan didn't know what was happening and though he had no heartbeat or anything at all, had his breath(?) growing heavier and panicked with bad feelings about everything. And then when the girl had come closer to him with fear, it became even more apparent that something was very very wrong. In a whim, the blonde boy had taken a step forward and stood in front of her. Whoever this was, whatever they wanted, he was determined to protect this kind person he had just met. He had been about to shield Yorokobi too, buuut the behavior of 'Billy Dean' made he think they just wanted to party. And as such, he tentatively pulled the pocket horn out of the blazer's pocket...

  • Dawn:
"I don't think it was great in the 60s, Tadhg," he laughed, a bit nervously and a whole lot confused. A costume? Group hallucination? Fiona didn't seem worried and the dead man himself seemed in good spirits. And of course Garren felt very happy and carefree tonight. "So, anyway, you would be correct about owls. They're little hellions, not very bright mind you, but very efficient hunters. I have a sweet snowy named Gertrude and she's been with me for years and years. She has a lame wing, so she can't fly for long. She would die in the wild, and since she's great at calming down new birds, she's my favorite gal. What about you though, Tadhg? Where do you love to fish? What are your favorite types?"

  • Zarko Straadi:
Uncle Billy Dean...? Lliira thought. In retrospect, the placement of the reversed Death card in the 'past' part of the Tarot spread was starting to make sense. She couldn't help but feel her heart warm when Nolan interposed himself protectively. But with Aunt Fiona's words, the feeling of threat receded...as long as her new spectral uncle had no malevolent intentions toward her... "Thank you," she said softly to Nolan, who was now pulling...a small horn?...out of his pocket. "It's very nice to meet you."

“Do you have to be dead to come to your close of love?”Ricky asked.

  • CarnelianUndead:
"No, it was just as atrocious back then too!" Tadhg snorted but he tried to pay attention to his discussion partner but holy hell that was just the weirdest thing? Like, what on earth? "I... I am pretty sure that's a dead man, you know. I was a bit young for the sixties but..." He shook his head. "I must be so damn high. Goodness. I ... Concentration is hard isn't it? Oh! Cheers to you, Fiona love! ... I could use another gin. I love fresh water fishing and I prefer to stand on banks but I find myself in a lot of little boats. I like, oh well, I like... well! Everywhere! From tropical to Arctic!"

  • Diana:
"Death means nothing when it's true love!" insisted Billy Dean, but he was too busy hitting on some other confused and very high young woman. Fiona was already pouring a fresh round of drinks for everyone. Somehow the time had flown by and it was already down to the last few minutes before the new year. "Billy please, these darlings have enough problems with Fate on their hands... Llira, sweetie, you'll understand soon." The old woman laughed.

  • Loveless:
"Heeeey you, the Billy guy!", Nolan had called out at the man that had a worse taste in clothing that his own apparently, which he thought was impossible given the amounts of neons he'd normally wear, "If it's a party that you want, it's a party you'll get!" As he raised the pocket horn to start playing it, the mist was suddenly back, creeping from the boy's location and slowly rising, together with the same calm and peaceful feeling from earlier. It didn't match the song, as he was trying to keep up with the tempo of the piano that poor Fiona was once kind of chained to, but their influences would start to clash; One wanting a chaotic rush, the other muffling it out with something a lot more reassuring and not as forceful. This was now some sort of magical music battle.

  • LuckycoolHawk9:
Ricky rolled his eyes. “No such thing as true love, people use each other all the time. Love is the sort of thing you can’t make true.” He didn’t even blink as he said this. Love was weakness. But then why did he still wear the mermaid tear?

  • Zarko Straadi:
Lliira gave a confused and somewhat worried look. That was one of those double-edged phrases. It could just mean that all this would make sense in time. On the other hand, it was the sort of thing that got said to a character in a horror story intended to be a sacrifice when the stars were right, or some such.

  • Dawn:
The conversation nearby was quite distracting and now his vision was doing interesting things. Tadhg seemed very pleasant to talk to, but Garren wasn't able to ignore the situation any longer. He turned his attention to Fiona and the Billy Dean fella, watching and feeling...a soft calmness coming over him again. His vision settled, save for the gentle gold shimmering mist clinging lightly to everything nearby. Clarity suddenly found him and Garren rose to his feet, offering Tadhg a hand up as well. "I think we ought to duck out of here quickly, my new friend. It's been a pleasure, as short-lived as it was." He brought Tadhg's hand to his lips and kissed the knuckles, another charming twinkle in his eye. "If you stay, I'd avoid the closet of love if I were you."

Tadhg found himself on his feet and stumbling as Garren had helped him upright. "Do we have to?" He murmured but turned pink at the kiss to his hand because that was just oh so charming! Too charming! "Oh trust me, no closet of love for this old man." At least not without more alcohol and a charming partner! "Shouldn't drive... but also this is getting weird, isn't it? Maybe I'll just go upstairs and sleep it off..."

The party, (for all who remained) fueled by magic and drugs, sailed through the New Year's Countdown and was one hella good time. No one died or got themselves injured. Some even received a tour of the Love Closet. Once sunrise came around, Billy Dean vanished back from whence he came. ...but for some, a nagging feeling that soon Fate would catch up to them lingered in the back of their minds. THE END! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
