History
Somewhere, on a different plain of existence, there lies another world very similar to ours. In it, there exists great nations with greatly detailed and intricate histories that none, not even the most wise or edified know of in their entirety, but many suspect there is much more to them than is known, just as in our world. Great empires have risen and fallen. Many different peoples have prospered and despaired, just as we have. This other world has great and bountiful natural beauty, only being rivaled by the world that we call our home. This world also has great diversity just as ours does, with peoples of very different backgrounds and beliefs call this world home. This is just the beginning of all there is of this magnificent other world, known as Cereldia.

Although Cereldia is quite similar to our world, it is bound to an extraordinarily different set of laws and realms of possibility. This is highlighted by one major thing. This world contains magic, of the literal kind, the kind spoken of in fairy tales and legends in our world, the kind that we only dream of it. Those who devoted their lives to the study and practice of magic became known as mages. There are also those who are greatly adept with the art of magic became known as archmages. Then there were those mages who are known for their great wisdom and bravery, along with awesome amounts of power and skill are granted the title of Sage.

These mages did many great deeds for the peoples of Cereldia, but many of them soon began to realize that if mages cooperated with each other, that deeds of much greater magnitude could be accomplished. Those who realized this began forming alliances, coalitions, and guilds of mages, of which the term guild would later be coined as their official classification. These mages then accomplished even greater feats than they had before, attracting the attention of the feudal lords who ruled the land.

One of these lords realized that magic could be used as a great and powerful weapon in both military and political matters. He soon added a magical division to his army, of which the other lords soon followed suit, leading to a magical arms race on a massive scale. This soon got out of hand, as the lords were putting massive amounts of resources into this magical arms race, and because of that, commoners suffered and grew restless day by day. Out of fear that there would soon be a rebellion, The Seven lords of Cereldia called the summit of the year 336, including all of the lords, their more influential vassals at the time and many of the sages of the time. They all knew that this arms race needed to stop in order to prevent revolutions from starting throughout Cereldia, so they all agreed that the magical divisions of the military of each nation needed to be cut to bring upon the return of order. They also found that the magical world needed to have a governing body to regulate it before things got out of control once more.

The Lords wished for magic to be regulated and governed by individual nations, but the sages pointed out that what attempt that had been previously made had failed miserably up to that point, and wished for a single international organization to regulate magic. While the lords saw the point of the sages, they still wanted to have an influence in the magical world, as magic was vital to their very way of life, and made this point clear to the sages. The sages responded by allowing the individual nations to regulate to a certain point, but under the proposed "Magic Council". They also said that each nation would have to house outposts and a regional HQ for the Magic Council. The lords agreed upon the plan, but asked who would be on this Magic Council. They were given the response that seven sages would preside over the magic council, with one sage coming from each nation. The lords temporarily objected, protective of power as they were, but soon caved in to completed proposition of the sages. Soon after this summit, the magical divisions of each nation’s military were cut, and the Magic Council was formed, restoring the stability of Cereldia once again.

This tale yet to be told is set more than 300 years after the summit of 336, starting in the year 652. After such a long period of relative peace, the world is on the brink of change in earthshaking proportions, how will you leave your mark?
Religion in Cereldia
In the Beginning, there was only chaos. No one knows how long, or why the chaos existed, but it was from this chaos that the first being emerged. That being is known as Zenoth, the Demon King of Chaos. Soon after emerging, Zenoth was in need of entertainment. To fulfill this need, he began to shape other Demons from the chaos. This satisfied the demon king for some time, but soon him and the other demons became bored, and therefore decided to shape beings who would build them a "sandbox" to play with.

Those being would become known, as the Gods. At first, there were only six Cardinal Gods; Golgis: God of Earth, Zephia: Goddess of Air and the Sky, Pyros: God of Fire, Hydreus: God of Water, Coiro: God of Order, and Raimia: Goddess of Lightning and Life. Together these gods created the world we now know as Cereldia from the chaos. While Coiro made sure that their cretion would not fade back into chaos, Golgis and Pyros would work to build the land masses of the world, then Hydreus filled the world's oceans, lakes, rivers and streams. Zephia filled the air with all it needed to be fit for life.

They had finished making quite the wonderful sandbox for the Demons, but what is a sand box with no toys to play with? After having the other gods form a suitable structure for all living beings, Raimia struck the world with her lightning, giving the spark that life needed to bloom. Soon, spawning from within the minds of sentient races, many more gods appeared although, there were only four "new age" gods who were able to join the ranks of the 6 Cardinal Gods, those were the following; Rionus: God of weaponry, warfare, and mechanical devices; Arsia, Goddess of Art, Music, and Storytelling; Neauthrus, God of Emotion and the Mind; and Tutanes, God of Knowledge and Education.

The Sandbox that the demons had wanted was now finished, and so they began to indulge themselves with their new playthings. After watching the demon take their marvelous creation so lightly, the gods convened and decided that they must banish the demons before they could wreck their creation beyond repair. A great war between the gods and demons ensued, completely reshaping the landscape of the world. After many years, the gods finally managed to banish the demons with the help of the sentient races they had created, establishing the semblance of peace that is now found in the world.
Notes
We will not be using dice for the combat system in this rp, since it will be more focused on adventure and intrigue rather than action.

The combat system for this RP is known as common sense. You get a reaction and an action in every post. Don't godmod and make it a fair fight, because if you won't fight fair, I'll just give the other person free reign upon you.

This RP takes place in a feudal sword and Sorcery setting, there are varying cultures, for example the Western Isles are home to a culture similar to feudal Japan, while the main continent is home to a variety of European inspired cultures, and the southern deserts are home to a somewhat Arabian-like culture.
General Rules
1: ALL Iwaku Rules still apply in this thread

2: No Godmodding, metagaming, etc. you get the point.

3: No one liners, a minimum of 1-2 paragraphs per post will be in place. Posting requirements will be a minimum of once to twice per week, but may have increased pace.

4: Caution, there will be player death in this RP. You're character may be killed at any time, but it requires 2-3 posts to kill someone outside of direct combat. If your character dies, they die. End of story.

5: You may have up to two characters

6: I will allow no overly active and explicit intimacy. (You can have relationships, but if you want to go too far, take it to PMs)

7: Communicate with your fellow rp'ers so no one gets too lost or anything.

8: If you wish to leave the RP, please inform everyone so we can arrange some sort of proper way to see off your character.

9: Have Fun! No, seriously, if you don't have fun I will HUNT YOU DOWN.

10: Put "Initial Fantasy" in your CS so I know you've read the rules.

Raiki "Rai" Testumaru

d0103a0797921f9cad45bc4259bbf02a.jpg

Full Name: Raiki Tetsumaru

Preferred Name: Rai

Occupation: Archmage and Prince

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Race: Demigod (Human)

Appearance: (as depicted above)

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 193 lbs

Personality:
Bold, reflective, and idealistic are three words that might come to mind when thinking of Raiki. While he might seem to be selfish and self-serving, typically he prioritizes the betterment of the world. The only thing he might put before that ideal would be lives of the people close to him, to which he his extremely loyal. He is a very adaptable and laid back person, that is, until his core values are under assault. He possesses a quick mind and is able to recognize possibilities well. He also has an acute interest in understanding and helping others.

Backstory:
Rai is the first and only child born to Ichiro Tetsumaru, Daimyo of the Raiseiriku province in the Western Isles, an area noted for it's frequent thunderstorms as well being home to the Temple of Life that is devoted to the goddess Raimia. During the period of time just after the great war between the gods and the demons, the family that had come to rule Raiseiriku pledged their loyalty to the goddess Raimia, commissioning the construction of the Temple of Life in her name.

The family remained loyal to the goddess of lightning for many centuries, getting very little in return for their loyalty. Over the years the once powerful and influential family grew weaker and weaker. This reached the point where none of the other noble families would even allow one of their daughters to marry the family's only surviving male, Ichiro Tetsumaru. The family had just barely fought of a coup that had been started by a bunch of zealous priests, losing the head of the family and previous Daimyo to battle, as well as all of his sons with the exception of Ichiro.

Unable to find a suitable partner for marriage while managing the affairs of the house, 3 years had went by when by a twist of fate, Ichiro was approached by a foreign noblewoman from the main continent. She had ran away from her family, wishing to choose her own romantic partner instead of having an arranged marriage as noble custom called for. Ichiro took her in and taught her all the customs of the Western Isles that she would need to know. With each passing day that he spent with the girl, his feelings for her began to grow. After a year, these feelings blossomed into love for the girl. These feelings had been mutual between the two, so they got married. A month later, she was with child. After nine months, giving birth to her one and only son, Raiki. She died only minutes after the birth of her only son, disappointed at the fact that she couldn't see her son grow up. In her last breaths, she spoke to her husband that with the His help, Raiki would be the one to bring the family to even greater heights than any of his predecessors. Unbeknownst to anyone, she was the goddess Raimia in disguise, and her last words were her blessing and prophecy.

After the death of Raiki's mother, Ichiro gained a great determination. With this determination he began manipulating the political landscape around him and engaged in all sorts of negotiations with people of influence, including the likes of merchants, his vassals, other nearby Daimyos, as well as the Shogun himself. He rewrote the local code of laws and invested in the region's infrastructure. Soon, these seeds he had been sowing began to grow and bear fruit, slowly improving his power and influence among the other Daimyos and the Shogun.

Meanwhile, Ichiro had also been raising Raiki, his one and only son and heir. Raiki was given what would typically be considered a normal upbringing for the heir to a Daimyo. He was taught the ways of nobility, trained in the art of combat, as well as speaking and some scholarly research. But one day, when he was the age of ten, he stumbled across some material on magic, and was instantly consumed by it. He would study the arts of the magi whenever he possibly could, teaching himself the basics of magic. His father noticed this keen interest, as well as his ability to use basic spells, and requested for a local archmage to bring Raiki under their tutelage. The archmage taught the rest of the fundamentals of magic to Raiki, as well as his elemental magic. When Raiki attempted to use lightning magic, his tutor was amazed by what he saw. The boy not only had an amazing natural ability to manipulate lightning, the boy's lightning no normal magic. The lightning exuded a divine essence, and could overtake normal lightning magic with ease. This, in conjunction with his skill in martial combat, allowed Raiki to ascend to the rank of archmage, an honor only 27 other magi in the nation held, at the astonishingly young age of 15, making him one of the youngest, if not the youngest archmage in the history of not only the western Isles, but the world.

Patron God: Raimia

Magical Capability: Being the son of the Goddess Raimia, Raiki has the ability to use Divine Lightning magic, allowing him to create and control electricity at a level normally impossible for a human or for that matter, any race. He also has the ability to use life sensory magic, allowing him to sense any living being within an approximate 100 foot radius around himself, so long as it isn’t using any strong cloaking stealth magic. Under his eye patch is the eye of Thunder, when activated, It improves his perception and reactions, strengthens his lightning magic and grants him better control over large amounts of lightning, at the expense of draining from his magic pool more rapidly than usual.

Combat abilities: Rai prefers to wield a Naginata in battle, but also has a Katana and Wakazashi. He can wield most swords and just about any polearm.

Skills: Martial and magical combat, athletics and acrobatics, Knowledge of weaponry, animal handling

Other: Nobody knows of his divine heritage, including himself

If you don't mind me asking, what are the playable races for this rp? I don't remember reading anything about the races ^^"

I suppose that if I'm going to join, I should submit a character sheet.

This is one character I have used on every roleplay website I have been on, and it is generally accepted. Opinions?

[spoili]
Character Name: Percival "Percy" Wulfric Butonn
Alias: 'The Tailor', due to the theme of its weapons and its appearance.
Gender: While homunculus are considered gender-less, Percival identifies more as a male.
Species/Race: Homunculus, created following the recipe in the Liber Vaccae but substituting cow and ewe with birthing women.
Age: Accumulated age from previous lives add up to 46 years; current life's age approximates to 15 years.
Birthplace: The 'original' Percy's birthplace would be a nondescript hospital located in one of England's lesser known cities; the 'second' Percy's birthplace was in the basement of the 'original' Percy's household, inside of a crucible; and the 'third' Percy was conceived at a crucible off the coast of the United Kingdom, where the murder of a four year old child took place.
Occupation: Currently, it does not have an occupation recognized by officials, but it considers itself an excellent magic user and assassin.

General Description: In terms of physicality, Percival has an androgynous complexion, not possessing qualities that would put it in either gender group. It is quite short, standing at a less-than-average five feet and two inches (or about 1.57 meters); Percy is also quite thin, bordering on skeletal, but not to the point that one would be worried about its health, and, as a direct result of this, is lighter than normal, weighing in at about 105 lbs (or about 47.62 kg). Its hair is an unnatural shade of brown muddled with a powerful beige, creating a dull shade, and it's styled in such a way that the right half of Percy's head is spiked and dynamic, while the left side of its head is smoother, softer. Its eyes are equally abnormal, being a white iris on top of a black sclera, the iris of the eye changing red whenever Percy either uses the magic that it has at his disposal or whenever it reads the copy of the Liber Vaccae.

Moving on, we end up at what Percy is wearing; it's clothing is odd, as it is an amalgamation of faded clothing placed together in an irregular, asymmetrical pattern, like a metaphorical clothing quilt. What covers the majority of it's body is something similar to a dress; it has the shape of a choir boy's dress, tailored to fit an older individual, but it has been ripped apart and resewn together so many times and with so many other cloths that it's more of a men's gown and cloak that's covering the front and back; the sleeves of it are odd, with the left sleeve being detached, and the sleeves and ends are tattered into flowing strands and ribbons of the original clothing. The ripped remains of the sleeves and ends are what protect his feet; pieces of cloth can be seen wrapped around his feet and ankles, a sort of rudimentary protection for his soles. What might be the strangest of his clothing, however, is the large sewing needle he has placed in his head, acting as a pin that holds up its hair.

Strengths: Since Percy is thin and light, it has adapted to using it to it's advantage; it is very agile, being able to dodge most frontal and back attacks and countering them effectively. it is also talented at attacks involving magic, and it is very good at attacks involving stealth, regardless of whether they involve sorcery or not. Also, despite it having a skeletal complexion, it is very good at enduring pain, even willing to ignore potentially fatal gashes.

Weaknesses: What Percy is gifted in agility, it lacks in overall strength; since it doesn't have a lot of body mass, it isn't a strong individual, and, if unable to perform magic or stealth attacks, it is powerless. Also, even though it ignores pain well, it is more fragile, and wounds that aren't fatal to a normal being can be deadly to Percy.

Current Goal/Purpose: It's current goal is figuring out an alternative to immortality; presently, its system is creating a homunculus or other separate catalyst and transferring its soul to the new body, but it is looking for a different technique.

Talents: Apart from knowing all the ways an embryo can die inside of the mother, it is very knowledgeable, understanding several concepts ranging from sorcery and its theories to the failed idea of phlogiston; as such, it is very precise with his words and explanations.

Inabilities: It is unable to sympathize well with other individuals, lacking any sort of empathy towards others that aren't the closest of 'friends', if you could call it that. It also vents out its anger in an unhealthy way; essentially, it takes out its frustration by murdering a creature of some sort. (Not a healthy habit, personally.)

Fears: For some odd reason, Percival has an impartial fear of anything that loves him.

General Personality: The best word to describe it would be 'harsh, but honest'; it's a realist, stating everything objectively and plainly, and it isn't the kind of person/being that would console and support others. Among those that are close to it, it is sarcastic and idiosyncratic, and acting in a way that could be mistook for sympathy.

Inner Personality: When there isn't anyone of importance around, it is much more sadistic, deriving its pleasure from the pain of others. It will intentionally look out for some sort of creature to kill, so as to curb its inner need for blood, and it is much harsher.

Character Quirk: Percival has a tendency to remove the eyes of those he has killed and replace the eye sockets with buttons; his technique is removing the eyes and, after pulling the eyelids over one another, sewing the buttons with a suture needle so as to fasten the eyelids to each other. The material of the buttons used when sewing is never the same; it is always different between the killed creatures.

General History: (I'm the kind of person that prefers explaining one's history through character interactions. No history for you!)

Present Life: Presently, he is currently juggling between creating another homunculus catalyst to sustain its ongoing life-cycle and finding enough victims to aid in creating the homunculus.

Done.

I'm assuming it's fine that Percival's race is homunculus?

Race: Homunculus

Appearance: In terms of physicality, Percival has an androgynous complexion, not possessing qualities that would put it in either gender group. What might be the strangest of his clothing, however, is the large sewing needle he has placed in his head, acting as a pin that holds up its hair.

Backstory: Percival's history is. . .difficult to describe. The first Percival, the one that everyone can agree to be 'human' was an adult male, aged 23, living in a nondescript city. The first Percival is the 'first' because it was the start of the cycle that would soon follow; the first Percival, as most people, was a person that believed in the concept of humanity attaining biological immortality, living forever without fear of death. He was an extremist, one that researched a bit too intently into the concept. The few surviving pieces of his work involve a crucible and several murder stories revolving around his 'death'. The second Percival was the result of all this research; it was essentially the first homunculus Percival ever made, the problem being that it didn't have a skin to protect itself. As a result, Percival had to sew his own skin from the first Percival's body onto the second Percival to protect itself. 5 years later, the second Percival improvised and created the third Percival from the body of a murdered four year old, following and modifying the instructions in the Liber Vaccae, and that's where the current Percival comes from today.

Patron God: Being atheist, he does not believe in patron gods, or deities in general.

Magical Capability: Percival's magic is one that could be assigned to all categories; it borrows the runic symbols and rules of basic alchemy, but it uses the ideology used in thaumaturgy (miracle work), and yet it bases its magic around the concepts listed within the Liber Vaccae and De essentiis essentiarum. It's an amalgamation of concepts mashed together, and, miraculously, it works. His magic works in odd ways; following the basic rules of alchemy, it states that energy is equal to what is given up, said item being given up following the ritualistic concepts proposed in the Liber Vaccae, and, following the concept of thaumaturgy, is classified into separate concepts and ideas. After transmuting the object into it's separate concepts, the sorted energy can be used to the user's advantage. Percival's magic focuses around the qualities in blood and flesh.

Combat abilities: The weapons that Percival uses are outdated and improvisational, but they're effective nonetheless; his primary weapon is a spring scissor, one that mimics the tailor designs implemented in high scale places, and is the weapon he is the best with, as he can separate it into two blades. The hairpin on the top of his head acts as his secondary weapon, acting as a makeshift dagger, used mostly as a way for him to cut ligaments and tendons to paralyze.

Skills: Since Percy is thin and light, it has adapted to using it to it's advantage; it is very agile, being able to dodge most frontal and back attacks and countering them effectively. it is also talented at attacks involving magic, and it is very good at attacks involving stealth, regardless of whether they involve sorcery or not. Also, despite it having a skeletal complexion, it is very good at enduring pain, even willing to ignore potentially fatal gashes. Apart from knowing all the ways an embryo can die inside of the mother, Percival is also very knowledgeable, understanding several concepts ranging from sorcery and its theories to the failed idea of phlogiston; as such, it is very precise with his words and explanations.

@Percival It's perfectly fine to be a Homunculus. Just take out the part stating he lived in the UK, we are on another plane of existence. Otherwise, Accepted!

@shinakawolf Make sure you've read the rules thoroughly (including the edit I made to Dragonkin, sorry) Other than that, looks Great! Although I can't accept it yet.

@Crow I'm sorry, but the Baihu just don't fit in to the lore and theology of the world.

So, Western mythology and no Eastern? Alrighty.

Is steampunk or machinery allowed?

It's not so much that I don't like the idea of having the eastern mythological influences, It's just that it doesn't mesh well with everything I've currently written.

It depends on how advanced it is, what have you got in mind?

Steampunk vehicle for transport.
Dual-wieded gunblades.

Yes to the gunblades, no on the vehicle, just a bit too large and complex for the setting.

Personality: Elias is carefree kid in a grown-up's body, constantly looking for fun and adventure. He has a strong sense of curiosity and does not give up until he figures out how it works. He also has a sense of humor that makes him a great drinking companion at taverns but an obnoxious person to be with everyday at normal occasions. He has a chatterbox mouth that, although is sometimes insightful, annoys people most of the time.

Backstory:

Elias' first memories were in an orphanage. He never knew who his parents were, what they looked like, or if they're still alive. Although this made him really sad when he's a kid, Elias learned how to hide these emotions using jokes and humor. One afternoon while he was reading books in the orphanage's library, he stumbled upon a book telling the legend of a notorious wizard thief known as the "Red Masked Bandit". This story inspired Elias so much that the next day he began looking for books about magic and teaching himself how to do it. After 3 weeks, 8 year old Elias mastered the basics of illusion casting which normally took 4 months to master and used this knowledge to prank other kids in the orphanage.

The head of the orphanage caught wind about the 'boy who taught himself magic' and saw his potential that he enrolled him in the best wizardry school in the city. He excelled in his studies, particularly in illusion casting, and became #1 in class. But soon, Elias got bored with this kind of life. He wanted adventure, he wanted to see the world outside this city, he wanted to be remembered as a legend much like the story he read when he was a kid. But most of all, he wanted to find his parents and ask them the questions he's been curious about since he's young: "Why did you leave me?".

At the age of 19, Elias left the city and started traveling where the rich dukes are and started stealing their riches and valuables using his cunning and illusion magic while donning a red mask. Soon, every tavern in every city started talking about the return of the "Red Masked Bandit". Elias smiles every time he overhears someone talking about him.

Full Name: Voris Akkson

Preferred Name: Voris

Occupation: Fisherman

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Straight

Race: Human

Height: 5'9''

Weight: 172 lbs

Appearance: Voris has a square face and a large nose. His hair is black and curly. It's long and he braids it down his back. Voris' eyes are green. He normally wears general sailor attire - a sailor hat, a large black coat, a general undershirt, some tight black pants, and large black boots. Sometimes he'll wear black gloves, too, but it depends on if it's storming or not.

Personality: The best word to describe Voris is adventurous. He wants to see the world and sail all the seas. He's very social. While it shouldn't be said that he can make friends with just about anyone, he can definitely talk anyone and everyone, and he can easily do just that. Voris is able to ramble on for hours if given the chance. Once he gets started on one story, he has to start talking about some other one. His conversations are mostly one-sided. He's a fairly humorous person. That is, he's a humorous person if you have Voris' sense of humor. He finds things that wouldn't be funny to be hysterical. He often laughs at his own jokes, with no one else joining in. He's used to that, though. He's also used to being the only one not laughing at a particular laugh.

Voris is also an uncensored sailor. He can't stop himself from saying something and speaks his mind a lot, even if that means offending people. He'll often get upset when that happens and try to keep the peace. He's a very unashamed person, too. He's a bit of an open-book, because he'll tell someone his entire life story without a hint of feeling bad about something. However, Voris isn't very smart. He's not good with mental math and he's a very slow reader. Further from that he's not too good at gauging someone's emotions from their body posture and facial expressions.

Bio: Voris' dad was a fisherman and his mom died during childbirth. His mom had been a powerful wizard and his dad an amazing, non-magical human, so Voris got a bit of both worlds. He pretty much grew up on the seas and molded his magic to it, so whenever he got on land, he never knew what exactly to do.

Voris spent much of his childhood searching for treasure and making maps. He had an obsession with it, some would say. He didn't spend much time with other children. He was mostly around adults, or else he was by himself. Since his dad was a fisherman, no one else was really there to take care of him, so he helped out on the fishing trips. Fishing and finding his way on the sea are the only two things Voris was truly brought up to do. He's not good with directions unless they involve a compass and exact mile measurements. Things like "Turn left at the sign," don't stick well with Voris. He's used to things like "Turn west in two miles," and can find his way better like that.

Patron God: None

Magical Capability: Voris' magical prowess works best when he's at sea or on the ocean. He can do more there. On land, he can lift small pebbles in the air, but that's about it. He can feel whatever is underneath him in the water, like if fish are swimming around. If he concentrates hard enough he can tell what specific breeds of fish are down there, but mostly he just tries to detect where there are fish or not. He can also control the water to an extent. He can cause waves to get bigger, but he can't do it in reverse. He can also control about a pint of water at a time and manipulate it, but only if it's salt water.

Combat abilities: Voris uses a trident in battle, but no shield. If he's on sea, he might use the water around him to help with his fight.

Skills: Voris is an amazing fisherman. It is what he was raised to do, after all. He can also throw a trident pretty well and make nets efficiently. He can braid hair well.

Other: Initial Fantasy :D
