RWBY
An alternate universe​

Finally, tired of their chained existence the people started to revolt, fighting for their individualism and self-expression. The four kingdoms fell, but not their dictators. They decided to combine forces, creating a single world state where they ruled together. History was erased, forbidden to be passed down by the older generation as well. All traces of their previous four kingdoms, their identities and unique cultures were all removed and forgotten. From now on everything was known as Remnant and the people were called Remnants. Remnants of an erased past. They were all the same, one and combined with a shared past that started from the Great War.

The new world state subjected the Faunus into slavery that hadn't fled to the old continent Menagerie yet, removing them even further from ever gaining rights of their own. Activists that tried to oppose this were all stamped as traitors of the state and terrorists. They were free from the state, but nowhere safe. Humans didn't dare to help the Faunus, too afraid of their own limited rights. The Faunus themselves had no rights of their own to protect, nor the means to do anything asides from fleeing or being a slave.

To celebrate their greatness and to remind the people of the Great War, Remnant also opened a new school to educate hunters and huntresses. After all, the fight against the Grimm was never-ending and the demand is high. The Academy was formed, an elite school for the best students from all across the state. It is there where our story shall take place...

Once Upon a Time

In a kingdom, far, far away it is believed that everyone has a little magic sleeping inside of them. In the past when men knew how to awaken the power inside, using it for both the good and the bad. It happened often that the kingdom was plagued with great misfortune, but there was always a hero, or two, that stood up against the calamity. Fortunately the good always exceeded the bad and the kingdom always remained in peace a 'happily ever after' ending the lot. It is then that our stories, later called fairy tales, are born.

Though, the knowledge of magic has long since faded away the people still believe that everyone has a little magic sleeping inside of them. Growing up with the wonderful stories of their heroic ancestors the people wished to immortalise their ancestors by organising a festival. A festival in which the stories of the heroes were reenacted again for the wide public to see. This was the birth of the Story Time festival, and to take part in the play as one of the main heroes was a great honour. A honour that the kingdom gave to all firstborns of the family, no matter the gender, for they believed that a firstborn held a special connection to the magical journey of the ancestor.

So, this is an interest check for two role plays that will happen. Reason for this being that both role plays will be run by the same people, and easier to keep track for me. Both role plays are still under construction, but we already have a basic plot outline which will be revealed when the actual role play is released. Above is just to give you a brief overview and taste of the mood and setting that we are going for.

Also, we don't take reserves! It is useless to try that with us. If you're interested, let us know and we will tag you when the actual role play starts. However, since we want to keep both role plays small we like to keep the numbers around 6 to 8 role players.

You can decide to join both ideas, or either one of them. To make the headcount even easier for me, please give a rainbow if you want to join RWBY, a like for Once Upon a Time, or a love if you like to join both ideas. Of course leave behind a reply, or a comment if you wish to say anything, have any queries, etc...

In that light, I should expand a little more on the details of the actual role play regarding both stories. This so to make sure that there are no misunderstandings and complaints later.

1. Anime/art pictures, no real people pictures (a.k.a: faceclaims) >>> Good places to look for them are Tumblr, pinterest, zerochan.com, etc... //sneaks in a link to my pinterest. Welcome to the dark hole of pins.

2. No reserves >>> It is based on a first come, first serve system. Create your character, we will look at it, maybe tell you to adjust were needed, and accept you if we are satisfied. It can happen that your character might be rejected because we think it doesn't fit the story, or because we might have a harem otherwise (like a 4:1 ratio).

3. Two characters maximum per player. >>> However, we prefer that you wait to get your first character accepted first before you go ahead and create the second character. That doesn't mean you can go ahead and reserve a spot for your second character either because you are confident that you will be accepted. (We will most likely go and do the opposite to rebel.) Also, it is preferred to go for a character of each gender, to keep it balanced. However, it is not an absolute necessity.

4. Activity is weekly, preferably >>> Everyone has a life outside, we do as well. We rather have a few good posts of quality over a daily quantity. That is 1) impossible for us to realise, so why force you guys? 2) Gives everyone the pace and time needed to write and keep up with the role play. Let's try to post at least once a week. This especially goes for these who are planning to have multiple characters. Make sure you can keep up, if not we rather have you slow it down and play with one first. Also, make sure that you leave no one hanging when life hits you like a bullet train.

5. Casual role play, adept level >>> Don't stress over length of replies. Never stress over length of replies. Quality over quantity. We don't care for novels, we care for content. However, that doesn't mean that you will get away with one line wonders. Make sure that the post has sufficient detail to form a reply to, which usually means: reaction > action > change. You react to what happened, act to it, something changes to which others can react to. Usually this should give you a good paragraph or two. Of course the order of what happens can also be switched; change > action > reaction // or whatever...

6. General customs and rules >>> At last, all rules of Iwaku applies. All regular customs such as: 'don't godmod' also apply. I trust that every role players knows them. Also: drama IC over drama OOC. Don't try the last one, please. We will see ourselves forced to remove you from the group, if not even report you.

With this all said I think I discussed everything that concerned us so far. If you have any questions, or comments, etc... please share. We hope that you will stick around with us (one and a half week more, eek!) and join us in our wonderful projects~

Just for clarification; we're planning to release both role plays separately. It is not an or, or situation, or a merging idea.

As for your actual question. As you noted the Faunus indeed lost all of their rights and dignity if they remained in the single world state. However, the Faunus in Menagerie aren't considered free. In the original series the Faunus on Menagerie were banished. Here in this case they had to flee in order to escape the claws of the single world state. You can say that they are free from their grasp, but I believe it is better to say that they are fugitives. They won't be able to come back to Remnant without being caught and forced into slavery like the rest of the Faunus, so they are quite much as stuck as they were when banished.

As for them attending The Academy. They can, however, under limitations and conditions. Keep in mind that the Faunus have been stripped of their rights and are forced into slavery, which thus means that they are viewed as property rather than an intellectual being. Which means that they won't be able to enrol themselves as students, or that The Academy, or Remnant, will accept them as students of the school.

They can, however, attend classes and such when their 'owners' allow them to. Be it under the condition that they have to keep an eye out as an escort of their 'owners' or etc... (be creative about why) They won't be able to enter it by themselves, in any case. The Faunus will, however, face a lot of prejudice and discrimination when they do attend education. (Think of the time of the segregation) They might avoid it a little by hiding their true identity, but at least the school board and their 'owner' will know about it, so they will have to hope they aren't outed.

They may be unfairly graded, maybe put into more danger on purpose, given handicaps to make sure that they won't win fights against 'normal' students, etc... you name the type of discrimination that is possible. Peers bully them, will try to provoke them, steal their lunches, and so on.

Shortly put: being a Faunus sucks in Remnant.

So, while they might learn how to fight Grimm they won't be considered as equal to the humans, simply because of their current status. There are a lot of elements you can play around with and that I haven't discussed yet, probably. However, I hope that this gives you a solid idea of what their position is exactly within this alternate universe.

I'd also like to ask if there are any families that still "begrudgingly" pass down their culture from the countries or anything similar? Finally, I'd also like to ask if the countries kept their original traits, such as Mistral being home to a lot of criminality and such.

Remnant tried to prevent this as much as possible by erasing history, just like the Fire nation from 'Avatar; the last Airbender' tried to teach their kids that they were right and strong. However, just like in 'A;tlA' there will always be a few who think differently and educate in secret. However, just remember that by doing so they are acting against the state, which these rebels did as well in 'A;tlA', so there will be consequences if they are caught.

(and if you didn't watch 'Avatar; the last Airbender' I'm afraid I can't produce a better option to compare it to right now. D: I will just have to hope that you understood what I meant without getting the references.)

Thanks for the answer, can't say I have an interest in the RWBY side of this given its the established lore I like. The setting and weapons are fairly typical, but how it was all made in Rwby is the highlight for me. I expected some changes here and there, but this is more or less a AU/OC borrowing the name. All that being thrown out, plus in my case needing to go; "Yes Masta, may I take yo hat Masta?" with the character I had in mind, doesn't hold appeal to me. Regardless best of luck in this.

So we came up with this idea of the faunus being a sort of bodyguard to the human (due to big shot/worrywart parents) and the two would thus be kinda glued together, allowing the faunus in the academy as well.

I know that scenario's pretty much what you described in an earlier post but we just wanted to make sure that it would be okay and work in the RP.
