Selene could hear the disbelief and upset in his voice as she stared back at him, but when he didn't say anything else about him she felt a bit warmer. The fierce protectiveness and what seemed like steely determination in his later statement made her worry a bit, he didn't need to get so involved in her problems with Phynex. Jasper had done enough already and he had a lot of responsibilities, but the simple way he told her he would here for her made her eyes soften slightly. He had always wanted in his own way to try and protect her, telling her it was just in return for her protecting him. "Thank you," she said simply, for this and everything else, too many to be listed but summed up in those two words. He could never know how grateful she was for bothering with her even after she had taken the path he detested, and done things that would have been harmful to her if he wasn't there. Best friends took care of each other.

She nodded as she pulled back from his embrace a bit, enough that she could place her hands on his arms. Smiling feebly, she tilted her head and softly spoke. "I don't want to talk right now..." She could just stay in that room with all the weapons in the cases, it made her feel strangely secure being around what had drawn demon blood. And in the case of something happening, she could never be too sure, she would have something to defend herself with. After a moment the smile faded again as she glanced to the side. He would never approve of it, but she needed to get something to drink... She would probably never be able to have a dreamless sleep or a silent space without the numbing buzz the drinks from his alcohol cabinet had. He would never approve, except when they were drinking together.

"Alright." He nodded, letting her go so she could have her own space and calm herself down, he could tell she just wanted 'alone time'. His eyes were clouded with worry and sadness. Though he may have disliked Phynex immensely, he knew she loved him. And they have a healthy relationship, or so it seemed. It must hurt a lot, her pain right now. Such a thing wouldn't happen to him, so he would never understand. Suddenly, he remembered something, which would hopefully cheer her up. "Hey, Selene? Tomorrow I have most of the day off," he smiled hopefully, "Want to go out for a cup of coffee and walk around the city tomorrow?" When was the last time they went out together as friends? Several months ago, he'd guess. They had went out to watch a movie, he recalled. He blamed himself for always being so busy, his schedule was always packed and whenever she had a break off her work he was still doing battle against the demons. Hopefully, this sudden revelation would bring her spirits back up.

Feeling brave, he leaned in and pecked her on the cheek, "You just relax, okay?" He stood up and left her on the sofa, trying his best to hide his growing blush and looking back to make sure she was comfortable. Stopping by his bedroom door, he looked over his shoulder. "If you need anything, I'll be in my room." Normally, he would close the door behind him - especially if he had guests - but with Selene in such a state he'd be glad to help her if she needed anything. Leaving the door ajar, he climbed into his chair by the desk, turning on his laptop and cracking his knuckles, taking his clean glasses and pushing them over his eyes.

"... I would like that," Selene said after seeing the look in his face and hearing the hopeful tone in his voice. Just a normal day, or what could count as close to normal for her, spending time with Jasper. Away from her work for the moment, she didn't even want to think of what the resistance would say now that she hadn't succeeded in her assignment. She tried for another smile, and while it came out as small and muted, it was the best she could do in these circumstances. Now though, she just needed to get away from everything, tomorrow could wait... She blinked in surprise as she felt a soft peck on her cheek, but felt her lips twitch upwards a little as she watched him go. He was really one of the kindest people she knew, even if she didn't know much about other people since she was mostly solitary.

She stared after where he had stood in the doorway for a moment before standing up, taking off her shoes and standing barefoot. Silently, so as not for him to notice she stepped and headed for where she knew he kept his wine. He never did like drinking too much other than for celebratory occasions or having fun with her, that he rarely actually took from his collection. This wasn't the first time she took from him, but while he didn't approve he knew she never took more than what was usually enough to get her pleasantly buzzed. The only time she would drink quite a lot was when he wasn't close by or wasn't at his home, and that was usually a worse decision. She could remember the upset looks on his face upon seeing just what she had gotten herself into in the shadier places, and she had to marvel that he even bothered to go to such places for her.

There. She moved back to the room he had set aside for her, a glass and an uncorked bottle on hand as she stepped inside and leaned against the side of the bed. The covers and the bed sank underneath her and she sighed, placing the bottle on the bedside table after pouring the vintage wine into her glass. After taking a sip of the heady, dark liquid she closed her eyes, then placed the glass on the table before standing up. Moving over to the closet where she kept a mix of her own clothes, the clothes Jasper had either forced on her or gifted her, and even his own shirts she picked out a dark blue nightgown. She didn't really care if it was silky or lacy, a gift from Jasper's giggling aunt, reaching just on her upper thighs as she changed out of her party dress. She closed her eyes as she concentrated on the feel of the silk against her skin, then moved back to the side of the bed and sat there. Taking another sip of the wine, and continuing to do so until she could feel the bottle go half, then a quarter as the alcohol started to affect her slowly, she didn't know how long she sat there staring blankly at nothing. All she could do was try and think...

Phynex left. She didn't know why, did she want to know? He was now with the demons. An enemy. And she couldn't kill him. Duty was failed and now she couldn't do anything as she was left floundering with how she suddenly saw him again. Happiness. Grief. Anger? She was... Happy that he was alive. She couldn't deny that. Grief. He was supposed to be dead, and now she hears that he left by his choice. Anger... She didn't even know anymore.

After a few hours of tapping on the keyboard, Jasper stood up and listened for any noises, was Selene still awake? Walking outside, he looked at the empty sofa and then at the closed door to her usual bedroom, Jasper didn't exactly understand why that room out of all the others, but he knew not to question her, unless you want a dagger in the middle of your stomach. He smiled, hopefully she would sleep all her troubles away tonight. It wouldn't be a permanent cure to her dilemma, but at least when she slept, she wouldn't be thinking about that demon she had loved so much. What was he doing now? He would be asleep by now, or still hosting that party of his. He'd never met Phynex before, he didn't need to - or was allowed to - he seemed nice to Selene, but that was probably because of the contract. These past few years, he had made quite a reputation for himself. A fierce and powerful CEO that produced thousands of new weapons. Super secret blueprints were stashed inside a top security vault inside the penthouse where nobody has ever dared to go in without being slain. Phynex was known as a demon with no mercy at all, for both prying demons and curious humans. Jasper shook his head, he turned around and closed the door to his bedroom, but didn't lock it in case Selene decided to visit him in the middle of the night. Flipping the light off, he crawled into his king sized bed, sighing as his body hit the soft and bouncy mattress, reaching for a pillow to support his head. Jasper took his glasses off, carefully placing them on his bedside cabinet. He whispered 'goodnight' to Selene, though he knew she couldn't hear him, and closed his eyes, falling into a deep sleep within minutes.

Phynex, on the other side of the city, had downed the entire bottle of wine. His head was spinning, which was what he wanted. But Selene was still on his mind. His eyes fluttered and a cold tongue slithered out to wet his cracked, dehydrated lips. He felt broken and empty, as if something had just wrenched something oh-so-important to him away. He had cried to himself until there were no more tears to waste, and the demon was just sitting in his chair, blank eyes looking out the the window. The party had finished an hour ago, half of the demons had left, leaving notes of thanks and gifts for Phynex to open in the morning. They knew he didn't want to be disturbed - he had to position two guards outside his office - so they left without saying their farewells. Some of the demons were so drunk they fell asleep inside the penthouse, Phynex didn't mind their company, though it meant nothing to him. If he wanted companionship he just wanted to see Selene again. Even though it had only been two hours since he last saw her - beautiful blue dress and gleaming daggers - he was missing her already. Even if she wasn't the same as she was three years ago. She was a good actress, managing to slip past security. He had told her how to act like a demoness, cold, indifferent and calculating. In fact, Phynex had told her how to do all sorts of things relating to demons. Weak spots, disguises and all that whatnot. As part of their contract, he gave her enhanced abilities that she put to use very well during her assignments, and he felt immense power and a strong connection to her - even if there was a contract where he didn't get these powers, he would have signed it anyway. Sighing to himself, he closed his tired and tear-stung eyes, going to a place of dreams.

The sun rose and illuminated Jasper's room, causing him to stir. He groaned and sat up, slamming the alarm that buzzed beside his ear. He blinked drowsily around his room, yawning and stretching his limbs and back. Jasper smiled, today was a day he would 'hang out' with Selene. It was like they were kids again, going out to town and walking around, laughing at this and that and playing childish games. He'd remember this one time where he couldn't find her during a simple game of hide-and-seek, and he had panicked. He was scared that some demons could have gotten their filthy hands on her, only to have Selene jump out of a tree and scare the shit out of him. He chuckled at the memory, rolling out of bed and into the bathroom to get himself washed up. Slapping cold water on his face, he grinned at his reflection, he was wide awake now. He didn't feel like wearing a suit today, it reminded him of business. And this wasn't a business trip, it was a casual day out with his best and closest friend. Pulling on a simple white shirt and black pants, he looked at himself and nodded in satisfaction, walking out of his room.

Selene blinked away the spots in her vision as she splashed more water on her face, then looked at her image in the mirror and sighed deeply, leaning her forehead against the glass and pressing her hand to it. She hadn't taken so much that she would be affected in the morning, but at the same time she woke up later than she usually would. Heading into the jet shower after shedding her nightwear she turned on the water, letting it be almost scalding hot for a few moments before lowering the temperature to a medium warm. She stood there for a few minutes and just let the water pound down her skin, before quickly washing herself with whatever liquid soap she could grab, as well as cleaning her hair. A floral, fruity scent filled her nose and she wondered if she should tell Jasper she didn't need anything that scented.

She was... Alright. Maybe, she could convince herself. Selene wasn't a person to cry; she broke down in a different way, like a slow crumbling down but without tears and sobbing. She had learned very young that you couldn't let yourself cry on the outside if you weren't strong enough to cry on the inside, and that lesson stood out more now. She also knew that Jasper may have lingered just by her door for a bit and if he heard any sign of upset, he would come into the room or feel even worse.

Her mind was somewhat clear enough now. Phynex... He was alive, and he left her and made his choice. He may have seemed so tearful and sorry last night, but she wasn't sure if she could trust even that. He was an enemy now, and he hurt the very humans she was trying and working so hard to protect with his decisions. Every paper he signed, every weapon he developed...

And she still couldn't kill him. Her eyes turned cold despite this weight she felt pressing down, as she slipped out of the shower and into her room, putting on her underwear and casually picking out a shirt she was sure was Jasper's from the closet. She wasn't going to wear anything dressy today; she usually took Jasper's blue button up shirts anyway. Then some black pants and her boots. The shirt was loose on her since it was for a man and reached mid-thigh, but she tied a ribbon underneath her breasts to make it fit snugger around there and her waist. Then she finished up by tying her silver-white hair into a ponytail, tying up the blue band with a quick snap before glancing at her reflection in a mirror.

Jasper was probably up now; she cleared any evidence of the wine and the glass quickly before heading to just by his door, and looked up as she saw him walk out. "Morning, Jasper." Her voice was a little husky due to sleep, and having spoken so little. Maybe a little because she had drunk last night. She smirked a little at seeing him dressed outside of his usual suits, it was good that he would choose something to relax in as they spent the day out. She wouldn't let him see how much she still felt and was trying to block out now; they were going to try and enjoy this day as best friends. They would.

Jasper smiled at the sight of his friend. Chuckling softly, he pointed at the shirt she was wearing. "Good morning, Selene. Is that mine?" he asked in a playful tone. Of course, she usually wore his shirts whenever she decided to stop by his place after an assignment and her gear was in tatters. Not that Jasper minded, sometimes he would even let her keep the button ups. He glided to her and took her hand, his face a picture of pure happiness as he guided her to the front door. "We'll have breakfast at your favourite café," he grinned, pulling her towards the lift. One of the fastest in the city, he reckoned. Going up and down the building was just mere seconds with his beautiful lift. "I hope you don't mind the guards that have to come with me, though." The happiness in his voice dropped a notch at the sight of two huge men in uniform, slicked back hair and dark glasses. Jasper wasn't allowed to go out much due to the large amounts of roaming demons, so this one time, this rare break from work, meant he had to be protected 24/7. In his opinion, Selene could take on any demon better than these muscly men. He opened the door to the shiny black limousine and pulled her in with him. His eyes were as bright and excited as a young boy, he just couldn't wait to spend some quality time with her.

Back in the Phoenix Industries building, Phynex snapped awake and groaned painfully - from his crumpled tuxedo and the throbbing headache due to the wine. Ruffling his hair as he stood up, he walked out his office and nodded to the two guards, dismissing them. They had done their job well. Cleaners were already in the penthouse, cleaning up a huge colourful mess that reminded him of either a children's birthday party or a crime scene. Sleeping demons were being roused from their sleep, no longer welcome in this high class room. Phynex ignored the huge pile of gifts that in the corner of the room and clumsily walked to the room down the corridor. He stepped in his large, well furnished bedroom and collapsed on the bed, roughly reaching and opening the bedside cabinent, pulling out a rather fancy looking glass bottle containing a bright gold liquid. Uncorking the mermaid shaped glass top, he threw the golden content down his throat. Since Phynex liked to get drunk whenever he hosted a party - which he did a lot - he had his own special hangover cure. The demon spent the next hour taking a relaxing bath and thinking about Selene. He was starting to get pissed that no matter what he did, he kept thinking about her. Perhaps he should take a break off work and look for her. He wanted to see her again. But where could he look? The first thing he thought of was their favourite places. In town, perhaps? He set his mind on going to see the demon hunter and the first place he was going to go was the café they always went to together whenever either of the needed a coffee fix. He dried himself and looked in his wardrobe, deciding what to wear. Half of it were just suits. Suits, suits and suits. But today wasn't a time for suits. He grabbed one of his old singlets, a white one with a grey skull imprinted right in the center. He threw on his favourite hooded jacket and pulled on a pair of comfortable jeans. Phynex grinned, it was just like old times. When he was with Selene he would always wear these clothes. And they were far more comfortable than suits. He turned around and around in front of the mirror, something was off. He frowned, not knowing what it was. A gleam in the wardrobe caught his attention, and so the demon peered in a box sitting in the corner of his warbrobe. The demin laughed aloud, the box was full of the belts he used to wear so much. He shrugged and clasped on three of them, nodding to himself and walking out, ignoring the stares of the early office workers and heading towards the café and restaurant joint just down the street.

Looking at his face and the pure and simple happiness he had just for this day made Selene smile a little nostalgically, he was always the one who loved getting out and about. She could understand where he was coming from, he rarely got out of his home without all those guards blocking most of what could be seen and even then he was almost always way up in his office in that tall building of his company. She glanced at the guards as he mentioned them with a habitually calculating stare, they were well built and could probably slow down any attackers - and if the attackers were human definitely take care of them. But if it was demons... She wouldn't mind any additional protection for Jasper at all. "It's fine," she said, feeling oddly content as she looked at how bright his eyes looked and let him pull her into the shiny black limousine. She was a bit hesitant at being seen with him, but when they dressed like their age and normally, her out of her dark clothes for work and him out of his suits they looked just like any other pair of young people out together.

She glanced out the tinted window in silence as the chauffeur started up the limo, sitting comfortably close to Jasper. Leaning slightly on his shoulder, she quietly thought back to last night then resolved not to let it show on her face or get to her. Just for this day. Especially when Jasper was clearly trying to do his best to cheer her up in his own way, spending time together even with their hectic lives. The limo passed through the streets quickly and smoothly, the driver clearly very experienced with finding ways to get his master as quickly to where he wanted to go. Soon, the surroundings turned quieter as they reached a place where the workers were just coming early and starting up, and the peaceful street. Peaceful, for now. There were certain places in the city where both sides of the war tried to simply relax, and there were places where the owners strictly kept a stance of neutrality. Selene respected their decisions enough, and it was hard to tell, to those inexperienced, who the demons and who the humans were. The demons were getting better and better at disguising themselves these days.

As they reached the place, a quiet cafe and restaurant joint whose owner knew her quite well, and also knew Jasper, she turned to him. "Well, this is a good start, isn't it," she said as she watched the chauffeur open the limo door. She breathed in the air that rushed in and closed her eyes for a moment. The air here was always fresher than the more crowded and shadier places in the city, especially with the trees and the plants around the street. There was no scent of blood that her enhanced smell could tell, no scent of the gorier parts of her job, and little to no smoke. She ignored the stares of the people she felt on them, probably because of Jasper's ride - but what else could they do? It was a good thing most people here kept to themselves and preferred no conflict, and because Jasper was never seen by any as the CEO of his company, because of all the guards - he could very well be guessed as a wealthy demon or a young heir.

Phynex walked down the streets, smiling to himself as he looked at every café and restaurant he passed. It was like a trip down memory lane. He remembered that one summer when the two of them - Selene and himself - decided it would be a great idea to visit every single one of these buildings and try at least one dish. The end result was an extremely bloated demon and his tired, swollen-bellied partner. But they had a fun time tasting foods from all around the world, and they laughed about how stupid the idea was a day later. Phynex thought about all those childish, stupid yet fun ideas they would do together. The duo weren't afraid of anything, he had her back and she had his. The time where he went into hiding after his death was the worst part of his long life, there was nothing he could feel but an endless void of anger, regret and sadness. Angry at his superiors for being so old-fashioned, judging and condeming him to a life of torture and hate after knowing that the demon had spent nights of passion with his contract partner. Regret for choosing the option he took, regret for leaving her and breaking her heart. And never ending sadness and grief for losing her and being seperated. Months of isolation from the world until he came back stronger than ever before - physically, anyway.

He walked with his head down, not really paying attention to the road ahead of him. He knew across the road was the special café they always went to - her favourite one. It was cosy, warm, and the could just simply sit there to get their early caffeine fix or eat a well made meal at the end of the day with candlelight and spend some time together. Over the years of being partners they got to know the café owner very well. And she was a kind woman indeed, one of the humans who did not judge her customers. The rare café thag accepted humans and demons alike, and in return for this hospitality, fights were never started inside, as both races kept to themselves. Heck, even some of the waitresses and waitors inside were demons, working with humans in this special little place.

He glanced at it before continuing to walk before stopping dead cold. Like an eagle honing in on its prey, his eyes instantly tunnel visioned onto a familiar, beautiful figure. "Selene..." he whispered to himself. Phynex's eyes widened at the sight of her, his heart leaping in his chest. He took a step forward, wanting to cross the road to get to her, until his eyes moved to the left and saw her companion. A male. The inner beast inside him clawed at his flesh, his eyes flared and his mind was overcome with intense jealousy. Who the hell was he? Why would another man be touching her - his partner? From here he could tell it was just an ordinary human and not another male demon, but that did little to soften the blow. If he approached her now, she would just run away. Phynex pulled the hood over his eyes and leaned against the wall, watching the two from afar, trying to quell his jealousy and envy.

Jasper grinned at the sight of his non-discriminating peaceful area, standing in the middle of the war. Both demon and human alike were welcome here, provided that you abide the rules - no fighting among races. He lead Selene inside, waving at the café owner, who smiled from behind the counter and waved back. One of the veteran demoness waitresses greeted them gleefully, happy to see the two of them again. "Selene! Jasper! Welcome back! A table for two?" she leaned in and kissed the air a few inches away from Selene's cheeks, a casual greeting. If this happened anywhere else, she would have been slain on the spot, but in this café there was no violence at all.

Selene nodded to the demoness who greeted them, not at all phased by the sudden affectionate greeting. "Millia," she said with a slightly warmer voice, glancing around the cafe and nodding. "Our usual table," she spoke softly, and Millia nodded with that gleeful grin. They rarely had times to go here together, but the owner had noticed that when they came here either alone or together they chose one specific table. It was the farthest spot she could choose from where he once sat with her. While this place had a countless memories of the times she had with Phynex, and she hadn't wanted to come here for some time after he left, it was Jasper who had convinced her to visit again. He was the one who told her not to let it affect a friendship she had with the kind woman who ran this place. The owner herself knew what happened as for Selene to vanish and not visit for a couple of months, but had accepted her with open arms - one of the few people that Selene really appreciated.

It was a decision she didn't regret, despite the slight ache in her chest upon catching glimpses of the cozy, candle-lit corner that she once shared with Phynex. This place was a rare gem, where both the demons and humans who went in only up for a pleasant cup of coffee and talking amiably with each other. Like they weren't different races, and there was no war... She remembered Phynex laughing with both humans and demons, and that one time he embarrassingly pecked her on the lips right in front of the other patrons. Then his antics with the food and actually wiping icing on her cheek then licking it off of her while laughing as she flushed and pushed him away, but a moment later she was laughing herself... Times that she still couldn't help but keep close to her in her heart.

She shook her her head; her jaw clenching slightly before she gave a low sigh and loosened her somewhat tensed body. The table she now frequented was a bit far from the wide windows that showed a pleasant view of the street outside, and from the entrance's viewpoint not easily seen. Selene walked over with Jasper to the table, nodding and giving small replies to Millia's cheerful chatter about inane, normal topics - she and Jasper were used to the waitress' questions about their life and how they were doing. The waitress also seemed rather fond of asking how she and Jasper were. Feeling a prickle on the back of her neck, Selene paused for a second as she glanced over her shoulder, before turning to Jasper and Millia again. There were the occasional stares she still did get here, but due to the neutral policy the chance that the attention was unfriendly was low. Except there was something distinctly... Displeased. That was what she could feel from whoever was watching her and Jasper.

She slid into the seat, pulling Jasper down beside her with her hand gently gripping his. They could have chosen to sit across from each other, but both of them could admit that they liked sitting beside each other more. "What would you like today, sweethearts?" Millia took out a notepad and held out a pen, but she was smiling knowingly at the two. Selene had noticed that Millia was... Rather devoted to being their waitress and talking with them whenever they came here, and even memorizing what they usually ordered. Looking to Jasper and meeting his green eyes, she nodded before looking back to the friendly waitress again. "We would like our usual coffee, and..." She paused for a moment. "Your macarons," it was nice that she could share her love of sweets with Jasper. He rather liked them too. As Millia nodded with a smile, and asked Jasper if he would like to add anything more, Selene fell silent once again. She leaned a little, comfortably setting against Jasper's side.

From here even Phynex could see the fun-loving Millia. He chuckled to himself, thinking about the veteran waitress. She had a love for couples, and liked to serve them the most. Phynex had heard she Millia herself couldn't have a relationship herself, so she tended to 'fangirl' over others. He licked his lips, thinking about her famous macarons. Loved by both demon and human alike. He frowned at the man that was accompanying Selene, sitting in the spot he used to when he was still with her. His jealousy flared up again, causing him to grown. He had just settled the feeling down, but the beast reared its ugly head yet again. He forced himself to look away, his sharp eyes leaving Selene as he tried to look at other shops, finding any sort of distraction to focus on. He wanted to just barge in, take Selene back and tear out the throat of that man, but that wouldn't do much to help the situation he was in. He grabbed his own hair, messing with it as he muttered curse words in the demonic tongue, hating himself yet again. If he didn't choose to fake his death, he could be the one sitting there with her, eating the foods they loved and messing with her.

Back inside, Jasper ordered the breakfast plate - toast, scrambled eggs and bacon. Macarons were probably not going to fill him up, after all. He needed a proper breakfast. Millia nodded and walked away, and within minutes Millia returned with two cups of coffee - made just for them - and a plate stacked with colourful macarons. She left and went back to the counter before returning shortly She set them down and smiled sweetly, telling them to enjoy their meal before moving to another table to take their order. Jasper thanked her and turned to look at Selene, feeling a little awkward with the silence. "Are you okay? Do you want some of my breakfast?" he asked, spearing some of the scrambled eggs to pile onto the toast. It was cooked just how he liked it and seasoned well, he loved this cafe. And being a regular was a bonus as well, just telling the waitresses to get 'the usual' and the fact that they knew what you were talking about. But Jasper looked at the silent Selene, his worry coming back.

"I'm not really that hungry..." Selene started to say, turning her head to look at Jasper before stopping. She could hear the worry in his voice again and after a moment, nodded. "Some," she agreed, glancing at the other tables then back to theirs. It was true, she didn't have much of an appetite this morning and could have gone fine with the macarons, though the habit of eating such unfilling sweets was unhealthy. She took a sip of the coffee and leaned back again. Any other day the way the coffee was made would have made her smirk a little, especially considering how the cream on top formed a whimsical heart - Millia's antics, really - and was just the right amount of sweet and creamy. She looked back at Jasper again. He was sitting there with his fork lifted up in the air and she shook her head. She took the fork from him, chiding, "Just eat. I'll share with you." She lifted the fork to his lips and pressed, prompting him to open his mouth.

As she did this she could have sworn she heard Millia giggle or make a choked off noise from where she should be serving another table, and she wondered what the other patrons did to make the waitress like that. Glancing over, she saw Millia coughing and smiling widely at the other customers then move to get their orders, bouncing on the balls of her feet as she did so. After this she turned to look at Jasper again, raising an eyebrow.

Jasper's eyes had a smile in them as he opened his mouth, taking in the fork. "For the sake of your health, you need to eat something," he said in a muffled voice, his eyes cast down back on his plate, the worry in his voice still present. Whenever Selene was sad or angry, she wouldn't eat much. She drank a lot of alcohol, but her appetite would go down the drain. Prompting Jasper to sit with her and drink even with his low alcohol tolerance or fix something up for her and force feed her. He didn't mind, there were times where he liked making food for her, making sure the dishes were extra delicious so she could enjoy it. He looked across the room and spotted the two guards he had brought with him, who had sat down on a table next to the entrance, eating their own breakfast plate.

He turned around and took her hand, his eyes looking into hers. "Stop thinking about him, okay? Think happy thoughts, Selene." He furrowed his eyebrows and took up an obviously fake angry voice, "Now eat your breakfast, missy!" He moved the plate to that it sat in front of her. "We'll be walking around a lot, so you better get something in you," he said, picking up a pink macaron and taking a bite, smiling at Millia who was looking at him, waiting for his reaction. He swallowed it down with a mouthful of coffee, looking absentmindedly out the window.

Selene gave a one-shouldered shrug as she forked some of the scrambled eggs and lifted it to her lips, eyeing Jasper. After she ate the piece of egg she smirked a little. "A little cheeky today, aren't we?" She knew if she didn't eat or try and act normal he would be even more worried, and even without him saying that, she would have tried not to think about Phynex anyway. Just thinking of the name made her wince inwardly. Taking a sip of the coffee again she cleared her thoughts, "Happy thoughts... Hm." She closed her eyes as she started listing off the times she embarrassed or startled Jasper. "One time I jumped out of a tree and you practically squealed, one time I showed up behind you while you were browsing on your computer and you jumped from your seat. And a whole load of other times that you were just jumpy..." She said with a straight face, they were rather funny if you thought about it. Now Jasper was more used to it and harder to surprise.

She was speaking more than she thought she would be, but maybe that was a good thing. There were times she either clammed up or just talked a little bit more than usual, and Jasper would probably prefer she talked more to him. After she listed those times she punctuated it with taking a macaron and popping it into her mouth, rosy lips pursed around the dessert before she tasted the sweetness of the pastry and strawberry cream on her tongue. "And now sweets. Enough happy thoughts, sir Jasper?"

Jasper laughed nervously, "You liked scaring me. I didn't really like it, though." He narrowed his eyes, thinking about all those times. Even when they were playing a game that didn't involve scaring the other person, she did it anyway. "Remember that one time when you knew I was on a horror movie marathon, and then you called me?" he scowled, "And it happened right when I was watching the scary part!" He had freaked out so much that he screamed before picking the phone, thinking it was some murderer. Only to hear the innocent voice of Selene; "Did I scare you?" He could never bring himself to hate her though, she just liked to play pranks - pranks that he found scary but to her, amusing - so he couldn't blame her entirely.

He looked up and at the time, "After breakfast, let's go do some shopping or something," he said, chuckling at the thought. He needed new clothes, button ups, to be exact. Thanks to a certain someone taking them. And she would forget to return them unless he called her ten million times to remind her. Often he would let her keep them as well, so he blamed himself for not having enough shirts.

"Not my fault they're so comfortable," Selene mumbled as she took another macaron, then sipped at her coffee. She remembered that time when she called and when he picked up he sounded like he had been screaming, only for him to explain what happened. And she had only called to tell him she was coming over to visit. For a while after that she couldn't help but innocently say, 'Your phone's ringing, Jasper,' and watch him blush for a few moments. "And maybe you're jumpy because you like your horror movies so much," she pointed out, she never did get why Jasper liked horror movie marathons anyways. Those movies never really appealed to her since she had seen the real thing, the sillier flicks and fantasy movies were more interesting to her since she never really watched much. Other than those times with Phynex... She flicked her gaze to the side as she lifted up the fork to his mouth, having speared some bacon.

After a moment, she asked with a raised eyebrow, "Would you rather I wear those things your aunt sent me?" Because she never took those home and just left them at Jasper's. His aunt was a rather vivacious woman who loved embarrassing Jasper, but with lighthearted intent. She never really did get why the woman kept on sending those packages of lingerie to her when she had already told the woman she didn't wear those things. Other than last night and if she got drunk enough she didn't care what she was wearing.

She had felt the stare on them from the unknown person let off, so she felt a bit more at ease now just poking at Jasper then idly sipping her drink.

"On second thoughts, take as many shirts as you want. My aunt is so..." his voice trailed off, his face turning red. Jasper was thinking about her in those clothes that his aunt seemed to like sending her - especially the lingerie. He was chewing on the last piece of bacon when the thought snuck into his mind, causing him to choke. He slammed his fist against his chest, coughing loudly, downing a cup of coffee and waving his guards - who had stood up with a worried look on their faces - away. He cleared his throat and stood up, hiding his red face from her. "Alright, I'm done. Want to pack the macarons and get shopping?" he asked, his words coming out quickly, his eyes averted. Jasper walked to the counter, making small talk with the owner of the cafe he knew so well, taking out his wallet and pulling out the money he needed to pay her with. Sometimes, when the owner knew Selene was having one of those moments and needed a lot of alcohol, the owner would gladly give them a discount. Jasper was grateful to her, and made it a habit to send her plenty of gifts for the owner herself and her employees.

Jasper quickly moved to the front door, the guards standing like statues beside him. He stood there, waiting for Selene, as he struck up a conversation with Millia, who had skipped to him to say her goodbyes. He hugged her, patting her back and saying his farewells, ignoring the questions she kept asking about their relationship. He loved Selene, but he wasn't sure if she saw him that way. But just being friends with her made him extremely happy.

"Thought so," Selene was a slightly amused at Jasper's embarrassment at this, but blinked as she saw Jasper suddenly choke on his food. She winced a little as she heard his coughs and thought maybe she should back down a bit from teasing him so much. For now. She nodded and stood up, getting the uneaten macarons packed into a small box then in a bag and watched Jasper talk with the owner, then Millia. She followed after him after murmuring her thanks to the owner and accepting her hug, not saying anything about the worried frown on the woman's face. "He's good to you," the owner whispered and Selene nodded quietly as she watched Jasper smile and talk with Millia. She wasn't entirely unaware of what possible feelings or ideas Jasper may have had towards her, but she wasn't really sure if that was what he really felt. They had been friends since they were very young, enough that they trusted each other with their lives and their hopes, secrets dreams and problems, but as for feelings... She didn't do those kinds of feelings anymore. Her work was her priority as was protecting Jasper.

She walked over to Millia, who was also coming over after talking to Jasper, and made small talk with her, before the waitress' face turned slightly more serious and Selene stared back warily. "You'll be fine. That's the Selene I know," the sweet demoness hugged her tightly for a second before stepping back, smiling again. It made her wonder just how well did the owner and Millia knew her if they even had an inkling of what happened or what she was feeling. Selene was sure she wasn't that readable to friends. Finally she got to Jasper and nodded. "Shopping, then, mister? I don't have enough shirts to steal from you now," she was pretty sure she heard a muffled cough from behind Jasper and glanced at one of his guards. The two stood still like stone, before they moved out of the cafe and she pulled Jasper with her again.

"Yes, miss," he replied playfully. "It's just down the road, so we don't need to take the car. Okay with that, men?" he asked, turning around and looking over his shoulder. The two guards looked at each other through their sunglasses and shrugged, nodding to their boss and giving their permission. Jasper smiled and allowed her to pull him along. He pointed at the rising building not far from the cafe, "Right there," he said, smiling. He looked down the road and frowned at the crowd of what looked like tourists heading down the main sidewalk. Not wanting to cross the road, which was already busy in itself, he turned to the left and directed her to a small alleyway that was a shortcut to another main road that also lead to the shopping center.

Phynex stood up straight when the two of them stepped out of the cafe, his eyes trained of Selene. She looked a little happier than when earlier, when he saw her head in. He gritted his teeth, glaring at the man beside her. He had no idea who he was, but he couldn't just approach and ask. He walked along the path on the other side of the road, watching them carefully. They seemed to be heading to the shopping center just down the street, were they on some kind of date? Another pang of jealousy and bait for the monster inside him. If he knew how to control the goddamn thing, this wouldn't be a problem to him. He was always such a possessive character, and he knew that sometimes Selene didn't like that, but it was in his nature, there was nothing he could do about it. He crossed the road, running between the cars when he noticed the two of them - and a pair of what looked like guards - walked into an alleyway. Making sure his footsteps made no sounds, he followed them like a cat.

Selene was content to walk with Jasper towards the building, but upon going down the shortcut with him and his guards she frowned slightly. She was feeling a stare on them again and while it wasn't friendly, it wasn't wholly unfriendly either. Sometimes this sense made her unable to keep her guard down, and she tried to relax. Exhaling slightly she looked at Jasper's grinning face and smiled a little as they went down the alley way. He looked like the young boy who eagerly looked out his window whenever she was coming to visit, waving at her to come in - through the door, not the window please.

"I might stay with you for tonight as well," she began as she looked to Jasper after thinking it over. While she was sure the other hunters were very worried or upset that... Phynex wasn't dead and their revenge wasn't taken, she didn't want to face it just yet. Selene didn't even want to know what she should do since the mission wasn't completed and they would take it as a failure or try and send another hunter after Phynex. Against her own will she felt her stomach drop at the thought, but... Phynex was strong. His aura was oddly familiar when she hadn't recognized him yet, but it was different from what he had years ago. Had he gotten another contract? She felt a slight pang at that then remembered that the contract between them was never really resolved yet. She should just cut it off... Except both parties had to consent to parting ways. She didn't know, Phynex might just hold it against her since he was an enemy now. The contract gave both of them a lot of power. And now he was more powerful than ever, and going against Jasper... Her hand tightened on Jasper's. She was strong, stronger than any of the hunters currently here now. She was stronger than when Phynex had left, experienced enough to do her work by herself without even a demon partner.

Things change. "I am strong, stronger than all of you. I can kill the demons roaming about the land... Even if I am alone."

The prickle on the back of her neck told her just in the nick of time to pull Jasper back out of the way, and pushed him to his guards, sharply saying to them, "Protect your master!" She cursed slightly, moving back just as some claws swiped through where she was. Was this the same presence that stared at her and Jasper since earlier? She didn't even have her guns on her at this time and only swiped out two of her knives, narrowing her eyes at the demon who attacked. This was supposed to be neutral territory...

There, in the alleyway, stood a young girl in a pretty flower dress and a tall man in a business suit. Half of the man's arm was exposed, sharp claws made from twisted flesh there for all to see. The young girl giggled, her eyes dead and blank as they bored into Selene. "We have been promised a great reward, if we can get rid of one of the most powerful hunters in this city," a high pitched voice left her throat, a voice so innocent sounding that it made the hairs on the back of Jasper's neck stand on end. The two demons dropped their disguises, their human skin melting into a disgusting blood and flesh mess, reorganising the structure of their bodies. What emerged from the concoction was a terrifying, two metre high monster that snarled and clicked its fangs at them. It was something beyond human description. A large body that looked similar to an octopus in the sea, except it was clearly composed and made out of human flesh, fresh blood oozing out of its limbs. The tentacles had their own mouths, sharp teeth protruding out of the ends, clicking and hissing at the four of them. They seemed to have a life of their own, although they had no eyes to see. Two beady yellow eyes stuck out from a giant bulb like body, glaring at the humans. Its torso was completely made out of these swirling tentacles, the blood caking the skin and flesh. Attached to the bulb was something like a cross between an insect and a flower. Two large tendrils snaked about, tasting the air and the scent of the humans in front of it. Merged on top of its head was the naked body of the little girl, eyes blood red, pale skin and long white hair. Its arms were connected to the main head, surrounded by giant leaves.

Jasper clamped his mouth shut, muffling a scream, he staggered back into the protection of his guards, his eyes wide open with fear. He had seen plenty of demons before, but nothing this monstrous and big. He wasn't even sure if Selene could take it head on. With a giggle, the demon lashed out, two long tentacles with their jaws wide open shot towards Jasper. Bravely, the two guards grabbed ahold of each tentacle, wrestling the limbs down. Jasper, with no fighting or offensive abilities at all, watched as his guards fight the demon, the tentacles clearly putting up a fight. One of the guards were flung away, the tentacle clicking its menacing sharp black teeth before moving to help the other trapped limb, snapping at the remaining guard.

Phynex rushed into the alleyway, ducking behind one of the smelly bins. He peeped around the corner, stopping dead cold at the sight of one of Cornelia's minions. What the hell was the demoness thinking? His blood froze, perhaps Cornelia had heard rumors about Selene? It was true, most demons knew how ferocious and her success in killing demons, Cornelia must have felt threatened. He watched silently as the guards fought two strong tentacles, and Selene facing the main body. Phynex had to help her, if she got caught by one of those many limbs, she would be screwed. He frowned, he couldn't exactly take it on in this form either. He would have to revert to his original form, even though he detested it. Now all he had to do was wait for the right moment to strike.
