Dear Student,
Upon receiving this letter, we are pleased to inform you of your acceptance to Briarthorne Academy. Briarthorne is a boarding school for young adults with special powers, and its primary goal is to help each student gain control over his or her abilities meanwhile learning how to use them wisely after graduation. Transportation will be provided for you on the first of September at nine o'clock in the morning. The semester term will begin on the second.
We are excited to meet you this coming Fall,
John Reynolds-Grisham
Dean of Briarthorne Academy

Plot
We will role play as students who attend Briarthorne Academy. Each of our characters has a special superpower that they haven't gained complete control over just yet. Depending on when their powers had developed, some students will arrive at Briarthorne Academy at different times than others--although, usually, powers reveal themselves when a child has reached thirteen. This role play will center around the lives of our characters as they become acclimated to Briarthorne and other students like themselves.

Guidelines
-Literacy: Meaning that you have a good handle of English grammar, punctuation, and syntax. Mistakes are okay every now and then, as long as I can tell that you are honestly trying to write a good response.
-Length: I require that you write at least two good paragraphs. I understand every once in a while where you may have writer's block and can only produce one, but don't make it a habit. I tend to write 3+ paragraphs per character.
-Activity: Try to post at least once every two days. There will not be a posting order, so posting as many times as possible will benefit you (and everyone else waiting on your response).
-Maturity: Because I will incorporate a lot of PG-13 content (such as dark plots, alcohol, sex, etc.) in this role play, I require you be at least 13 (although I really prefer you be 16+).
-Characters: Doubling/Tripling/Etc. are all allowed. Of course, you may also just take on one character if that's your preference. I want to keep an even ratio of both genders, as well. And of course, no Mary-Sues.
-Owl me: If you have any questions, do not hesitate to owl me. Otherwise, if you feel that you meet the criteria above, feel free to join (Try not to ask to join in this RP thread).

THE FIRST POST
Name: Lagrange Upmore
Nickname: Lag
Power: Time Manipulation
Age:20
Level:5
Appearance: Photo by Robin Blue

Personality:

Lagrange is an only child to two brilliant professors; his father being a physicist, and his mother being a mathematician. He was named after the great mathematician Lagrange, and inherited his parents' intelligence. He is a genius, on all fronts, especially in mathematics, and was accepted into Princeton University where his parents were instructors when he was six years old. Three months before he was to begin his education, his parents died in the Hindenburg airship disaster, May 6, 1937. He was seven years old. When he received the news, it was too much to bare, and he snapped, releasing his immense temporal power. He was found, decades later in the present context by one of the Briarthorne attendants, she immediately recognized the signs of his abilities, and has lived at Briarthorne since.

He often skips through class, as he feels it is beneath him. He is extremely humble, and often is found helping other students with their studies. His ability to skip around through time at his leisure has earned him the nickname Lag, as it often looks as though he is in two places at once. He has an enormous fear of fire due to the crash. He often plays jokes on the students, and has become known around campus as a prankster, which he uses to hide his past from the other students, and from his peers, and is seen as rather eccentric. No one knows the truth of his past, or how he came to be at Briarthorne.

________________

Lagrange awoke slowly from his nap, and immediately inhaled deeply. The steady rhythm of the breeze caressed his face through the open window, pushing aside the curtains, and bringing in scents of the air. The flowers, the grass, the leaves. A wry smile broke through his lips. Finally it had stopped raining. It had rained for days, and he was stir crazy. It seemed to be a gorgeous day, and he intended to make the most of what was left of it. He never got up before noon. What was the point? There was no need to go to classes, and the rain was the best hypnagogic in his opinion. Now the sun streamed through the enormous arched window and into the room in billows, warming his frame and his face, and gently pulling his mind from the equally warm embrace of sleep.

Ethereal tendrils of dusty light poured onto his desk and all of the adornments that rested there, giving them an antiquated appearance. The breeze nudged and teased a menagerie of empty glass bottles hanging above the cluttered desk, running them together and producing a bright tinkling song. Light refracted through the bottles, sending a multicolor cascade that pierced the air like a blade.
Swinging his legs off of the pile of blankets on the floor which served as his bed, and carefully avoiding the towering stacks of books, Lagrange tossed a light jacket over his shoulder, and shrugged into his shoes. He had slept in clothes from the day before, like usual. Often working late into the night; it didn't make much sense to him to break a train of thought just to change clothes. Glancing around the open Victorian room, Lagrange smiled happily as stretched, and then yawned as he placed his favorite grey beanie atop his head. Patting down the front and sides of his jacket, he held his breath until he felt the familiar bulge that was always present; the gold plated harmonica that his parents had given to him upon his acceptance to Princeton. He grabbed his keys, and his wallet. He didn't use a phone very frequently, and he had no need for a watch; he always knew what time it was. His bright grey eyes quickly darted around the room to make sure nothing was out of place, and happy that everything was as it should be, he opened the heavy maple door and left.

As he padded down the corridor steps and into the lobby of the wing he had called his home for almost eleven years, Lagrange stopped, and rubbed his right earlobe as he often did when he was thinking deeply. Through the breezeway that led to the courtyard, it looked as though a cloud cover was rolling in. Although he had accurately predicted the weather for weeks in advance just by observing the cloud formations and varying wind strengths, he sensed an incoming shower. Lengthening his stride, he walked into the hallway, turned the corner, and at once was bombarded by noise. Talking, chatting, yammering. Lagrange sighed. The weekend fervor had arrived already. As he crossed by the open door, he caught a glimpse into the interior of the room in which the commotion had originated. It was one of the schools countless commons rooms, filled to the brim with books, lamps, and comfortable places to roost. He had memorized the entirety of the schools floorplan long ago, and had explored all of the quiet hideaways. This one was particularly enticing to him as it had his favorite chair ensconced within the tight row of tables and bookshelves.

Today it was populated by a variety of students, who upon examination, all displayed the same look of worry and frustration. Lagrange grinned. They must have just completed the Astronomy mid-term. (His third year at Briarthorne, Lagrange had provoked the old instructor of the upper level astronomy class and ended up outwitting him by re-deriving the entirety of the Einstein Field Equations. The Dean swiftly had made him the instructor. His class gained the infamy of the most difficult at the school.) He sidled up to the opposite side of the doorframe and caught a glance inside. He explored the dimensions of the room with his eyes, and then his mind. After a couple of seconds, Lagrange was sure that he had an accurate depiction of the space in his mind. Chewing on his bottom lip, Lagrange removed his right hand from his pocket and, after examining the students once more, touched his index to his thumb. Instantly, everyone in the room froze.
Grinning, he stepped out from behind the door frame and entered the room. Lagrange had developed a technique that allowed him greater control over his powers; he would touch one of the four fingers on his right hand to his thumb, focusing his power to a variety of effects. His index finger to his thumb allowed him to slow time so drastically, it seemed as though it had stopped moving. Of course he could do this without the physical step, but he found this less exhausting. Carefully treading between students, he gently navigated the sea of people, heading towards the back of the room and away from the commotion. After he turned around the corner of the bookshelves he snapped, and the life returned to the room in all of its raucous glory. Smiling to himself, Lagrange receded into the stacks.
**
Lagrange sat Indian style with his legs crossed, as he always did, regardless of the time or place. This was his favorite chair in this room. Large and luxurious, it was so old that he wouldn't have been surprised if it was discovered that it was from his parent's era. It reminded him of the chair in his father's study, and so it was often the premier choice of places to lounge indoors. He looked up from the text he was reading and threw a glance towards two people who had appeared while he was absorbed in the book. The pair seemed an odd one; an older girl, probably his age, and a much younger boy who couldnt have been over 12. They were playing chess together and the girl was explaining the rules and expanding on different strategies. Presence and warmth seemed to radiate from her eyes and smile, and the boy was visibly entranced. Her smile reminded him of his mother. Suddenly, his mind was overcome with memories of her.
When he was younger, he sometimes found himself ridiculing other children for being less intelligent than himself. So, in response, his mother showed him immensely complex equations that he would have no way of solving, but that they could easily find the solutions to. She had asked him if he was any less intelligent because he did not yet understand her work, and he responded no. She then asked him to apply this knowledge to his interactions with other children, before leaning down and pushing his brown locks out of the way and kissing his forehead. The experience instilled in him a vast sense of patience, and of fairness, which he valued very highly.
Lagrange smiled at the memory, feeling the warmth that always flowed over him when he thought about his parents. As the fading sunlight filtered into the room, his expression changed to a slightly sad smile as the last few tendrils of sunlight retracted their tender touch and vanished from sight. He thumbed the lip of the harmonica in his pocket, shutting his eyes and savoring the fleeting moment of as long as he could.

A loud *thump* broke the silence and brought his delicate memory crashing down. Annoyed, he flashed open an eye to see that another student had decided to occupy the chair opposite to him, flopping down and knocking book off of the neighboring end table. Smirking behind the pages of his book, brushed the golden brown threads of hair from his face to behind his ear, and resumed reading.
