For the most part, Colin has had a pretty ordinary life. His parents are still married, and by society's standards, he and his older brother are well-adjusted after coming from a happy home with plenty of support. Despite not knowing much tragedy, Colin has still suffered a few disappointments in his life that went on to shape who he is today.
During his early years in school, Colin faced a lot of bullying for his small size. He was teased relentlessly for being shorter and weaker than the other boys in his class, and it got so bad that he started to run home after school rather than take the bus with his brother. All of that unintentional training eventually lead Colin to the track team in middle school. Playing sports stopped some of the teasing, but his heart was never in it, it was just something to do. Regardless, he continued to run and even won a few individual competitions, as well as a regional championship with his team.
By high school, Colin found his second love--the first being a secret and for his best friend; gymnastics. Finally, Colin had a way to feel good about himself through a sport that wasn't a chore. He loved it, and he was good at it. He got stronger, the bullies that had followed him around moved on (unfortunately) to other targets, and Colin started to dream bigger. He wanted to be a professional gymnast, get an athletic scholarship to a good college, and then maybe travel the world. All of those dreams were within reach, too, until an accident on the uneven bars cruelly snatched his ambitions out from under him.
Bearing the scar from a rotator cuff surgery and now dealing with chronic pain, Colin was forced to come back down to earth. He quietly drifted in and out of depression, aimless, and feeling like a failure. Without the promise of a college scholarship, Colin gave up on that dream too and went to work with his father at the computer shop. He had never considered tinkering a hobby, just something that he had come to learn by proxy, but it helped the family and made him feel useful again.
When the Wilomore Society sent that letter a few years later, Colin thought it was a joke. He didn't see himself as anything more than a cautionary tale, but working in the office feels like a second chance.

For being so young, Dakota's life has been rough and unstable. Born to a young mother, in love with a drug-addicted criminal, the early years of Dakota's life were rootless. The concept of 'home' was lost on him, as he spent the majority of his formative years in and out of low-rent aparts and motel rooms, watching his mother struggle to get by and descend into addiction herself. His father was often absent, in and out of his life when he wanted to make it work with his mother, and then gone a few weeks later when he managed to come into some money from gambling in one of Reno's many casinos.
An unstable home paved the way for an equally unstable education. In and out of school due to moves, and sometimes forced to stay home when he didn't have a way to get there, Dakota lost interest in learning at fourteen. It was around the same time that he got close to one of his mother's new boyfriends, going on drug deals and falling into a much older, more experienced crowd. This dalliance with Reno's petty criminals eventually lead to a sexual assault by an older man.
By sixteen, Dakota was on his own, making the choice to leave one toxic environment for the hope of a better life. When no one would hire him due to his young age and lack of real people skills, he started stealing to get by. After several juvenile arrests for theft and some time in a state facility, Dakota started to get himself together at eighteen. Through a counselor, he discovered a love of art as a more productive way to cope with his mental illness, no longer turning to cutting or hitting himself so often. Before being recruited for the Wilomore society, Dakota was working at a fast food restaurant and selling his oil paintings on the side.

Born to an American fashion designer and a Swiss actress, Chandler and her siblings never wanted for anything growing up. She had the best that money could buy, often taken care of by nannies and sheltered at expensive private boarding schools. Living in the lap of luxury made for quite the indecisive girl, however, when it came time to strike out into the world and make something of herself. Chandler cycled through a multitude of ambitions and flavor of the month hobbies that never seemed to stick, all while traveling the world on her parents' dime.
Chandler lost everything, her lifestyle, her friends, all the comforts of money, seemingly overnight when her father's company went bankrupt just before her nineteenth birthday. Sweet like Pandora Punch, Moe is the kind of helpful sap that lives to make himself useful. Natural talent aside, his need to always pull his own weight is the main reason that he became an engineer. HISTORY:
Born on Earth, Moe spent the majority of his childhood in the slums where he helped his mother, a gifted mechanic, refurbish tech to trade on the black market. He learned everything that he could from her, but couldn't help but feel something was missing. That something, was his father. According to his mother, Moe's dad was off-world on the moon, stationed at a mining facility for the foreseeable future. That white lie spawned a dream to get off the planet and find a home among the stars.
As Moe grew and learned, he made quite a name for himself and slowly took over his mother's business as she began to decline. The illness, though they never had a name for it, started slowly: her energy diminished, her mind was foggy and her hands would shake. Eventually, she wasn't able to work anymore, and the incredible pressure of meeting the local gang lord's deadlines got to be too much. The family business, could it even be called as such, was taken and Moe was driven from his humble house with his ailing mother.
For the next few years, they shuffled around from port to port and Moe did his best to scrounge money for meds until one morning, she just didn't wake up. No longer having a tether, Moe applied for dozens of DHM positions until he was finally placed on maintenance duty on a rinky-dink cruiser. It wasn't the most glamorous job, but it paid the bills and maybe Moe would have been happy spending his days cleaning up someone else's shit, but being shot at by pirates and always having the fuel cells stripped for parts got old pretty quick. Moe left DHM for good a few years ago when he disembarked from the Titan on Jupiter and never looked back.
Now, he's become the very thing that forced him from DHM, a goddamn bandit, but hey...at least he's seeing those stars he was so crazy about as a kid.

HISTORY:
Wynn grew up in the boring safety of Venus and couldn't wait to blow her parents' gas farm for some real excitement. It wasn't that she didn't love her mom and dad, but family ties are flimsy in a galaxy so big. At eighteen, she hitched a ride on a trading vessel bound for Mars and never looked back.
Life on the red planet was tough, but wild and free. Wynn immediately carved out a little slice of heaven in one of the larger bandit camps, offering company to lonely travelers and slinging her own booze when she could get away with it. Not long after, Wynn met Iria Verril, a bandit queen who ran a master smuggling operation out of her own ship. Wynn was immediately infatuated and the feeling was mutual, leading to a torrid love affair where Iria passed down everything she knew about weapons. For years, the two worked side-by-side, making deals, enemies and friends along the way.
Until they got to Saturn.
Saturn, a whole different beast, shed the light of legitimacy on their operation. There were rules, high-class people to impress and snow, and Wynn always stuck out like a sore thumb while Iria blended right in. The relationship, now a marriage, began to deteriorate and the "business" suffered for it.
Eventually, Wynn left without warning and has been dodging her wife and their mutual contacts ever since.
