BLOODLETTERS

There is a place between the human world and the demon/paranormal worlds. Filled with endless halls and doorways, a person could walk through this purgatory space to gain insight, knowledge, or even travel to other worlds. But going through here is dangerous. Demons and spirits have claimed these spaces and will kill anyone not protected. Every person, every creature seems to be represented by their own personal letter or symbol. This symbol carved in to the skin and covered with fresh blood will keep them at bay.

But if you dare travel without it, you are sure to lose yourself.

You are a guest on this very secretive, very special tour of Purgatory. Your reasons for being there are your own. You took great pains in finding out what your Bloodletter of protection was. Pray it's the right one!

EVENT INFO

WHO: Everyone is invited! Character Bios/Pics are not required, but totally encouraged! Post 'em if you got 'em.

WHAT: This is modern time setting. You are someone on the tour of Purgatory, your reasons for being there are yours alone but you HAVE to be part of the tour group. Supernatural and Paranormal occurrences are becoming a "normal" thing in this universe. They're still weird and many don't believe them, but they are becoming more known.

WHERE: Join us in the BLOODLETTERS chat room. You'll find the link to our chats in the CHAT tab when it's time to play.

HOW: This is a ACTION SETTING WITH IMPROVISATIONAL GAME MASTERING. That means the object of this roleplay is to interact with other characters, and from those interactions I will create a plot and story around you. There will be action moments, where strange events will happen and your characters will have to work together to resolve it. With this ChaRP "lol random" behaviors are discouraged -- what your character says and does will have in game consequences, so choose wisely!

My roleplays are always NEWBIE FRIENDLY so even if you are terrible at roleplay or have never participated in a ChaRP before, this will be easy for you to get involved in. :D Ask questions, let me know when you need help. I often give tips and direction out of character in the main chat room when people need a little direction.

EASY CHARP TIPS!

Try to show up a good 10 to 15 minutes before the ChaRP is to begin. That way you can read up on any important info, and it makes it easier for your GM to know how to start off the ChaRP when there's a head count.

Don't worry if another player is doing something similar to your idea. DO IT ANYWAY! Similarities and things in common happen in real life too. Everyone also plays differently, so two characters who are both "sweet and shy" will still end up being totally unique people. Two assassins could create a fun and interesting conflict!

Talking to other players about their character before the roleplay is a GREAT way to create connections and background for your own!

Post SHORT AND FAST. Charps are very quick pace and contain a LOT of players. Players can't wait 20 minutes for you to write a wall of text, and if there's too much text they won't be able to read it fast enough and will MISS details. If it takes you longer than two minutes to type your post, you are taking too long and might get lost in the action. This is an exercise in quick and concise writing!

Make sure your character name is mentioned in every post, close to the start of it if possible. This is especially helpful when there's many players, so we know who is playing what character.

Like in Real Life, a character may not be able to acknowledge or notice your character immediately because they are engaged in doing something else. (For example a new character walking in to the room, but the other characters arguing about muffins and do not see them.) Don't get discouraged if you go can't get someone to interact with you right away. Just keep posting and doing actions with your character, or even approach others who also seem to be idle and it WILL happen.

Do not take events in the roleplay personally or assume that bad reactions are because they think you/your character sucks. Everyone is playing a character and reacting to things as their character would!

I’ve realized I can’t join any of these because I’m always in school when they happen ;o;;

1665669411505.pngName: Zahra Rekhmire
Age: 27
Gender:
Female
Personality: Aloof, confident, maintains an air of mystery, hates establishment religions, tends to be snobbish toward "common people" (i.e. Normies, Muggles...).

Background: Zahra was born in a poor Coptic neighborhood in Cairo, with the name Pennouti Barsanouphios. As a child, she had dreams of a life as an ancient Egyptian priestess who lived during the reign of Pharaoh Rekhmire.

She took every opportunity to learn about ancient Egypt. When she started to worship the ancient gods and goddesses, her parents tried to steer her back to her family's Coptic Christian faith.

They were even more alarmed when she started talking to spirits of the dead, and developed a talent for psychometry. Nothing they and the local priest tried, including strict punishments, could make her abandon her new faith.

When Zahra was 16, her parents were killed by rioters during the overthrow of hosni mubarak. Coming home to a burnt-out shell where her apartment used to be, she found herself alone on the streets.

She eked out a living as a self-styled priestess of nephthys, offering her services as a medium and psychic. This got her in trouble with the Islamic authorities and some among the populus, but she somehow managed to stay a step ahead of them. This only added to her mystique.

One day she was pursued by mysterious black-clad figures who were able to match her knowledge of the back streets and leaps of intuition. To her astonishment, they were agents of a secret society called the Illuminated Order of Djehwty Ascendant. Claiming a heritage going back to the priesthood of thoth, they sought to recruit talented psychics as well as scientists and engineers. Operating under the cover of IOTA Technologies, a tech conglomerate with subsidiaries in artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, genetic engineering, and synthetic biology, the Order seeks to transcend the bounds of the human condition by combining cutting-edge techn0logy with psi research and occult practice.

Zahra was recruited into the Order, which provided her with top-flight tutoring and access to psi training and ancient occult knowledge. She quickly climbed the ranks of the Order, and was recently initiated as an Adept. As part of the ceremony, she took a new name.

In addition to her normal studies, she was trained in martial arts, swordsmanship, marksmanship, and parkour. Her educational focus turned toward ancient Egyptian mysticism, neuroscience, and techniques of consciousness expansion, with the aim of amplifying psi abilities, and learning more about the realms beyond the material.

When the opportunity to join a tour of the Purgatory realm (the Order refers to it as the Duat) was brought to the Order's attention, Zahra was selected as their agent.

The is a modern paranormal/supernatural setting. You are part of a tour group being led by a guide through Purgatory. Why did you want to do this tour?

  • Diana:
TYPE SHORT TYPE FAST! If you write too much or take too long, you will miss the action and people may not be able to read your posts fast enough. Keep it to 10 sentences and under.

  • Diana:
Put you character name in the first sentence of your post so we know who is playing who. You can also use bbcode color to differentiate your posts from others!

  • Diana:
We open to a lil place deep in the woods, off a dirt and gravel road. It looks like it used to be an old family graveyard by the state of the worn and grumbling stones and the falling apart mausoleum. A pickup truck was already parked with a young woman sitting on the open back trailer smoking a cigarette and reading a Laura Purcell novel. She wore a jumpsuit what barely could count as a uniform and a name tag reading "Kat".

  • Astaroth:
Greg Cunningham approached the woman in uniform with a brilliant smile. The man ran a finger through his chin-length sandy blond hair, adjusting thick-framed glasses. "Hello... Kat? Is this, you know. The right place? For, you know..." He winked one grey-blue eye at her, tilting his head to one side. He was tall and thin, handsome, his face young and fresh for his forty years of age. He had the kind of face that charmed mothers and school teachers and little old church ladies.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Zahra rolled up on a sleek black electric motorcycle, allowing it to coast to a stop on regen. She put down the kickstand and swung her leg off, took off her black helmet and shook out her hair. She stowed her helmet, then approached the young woman just as someone else reached her and asked "the question." The other person was a youngish man, slender, with the face one might expect of a librarian, or the owner of a small New Age bookshop. Since he'd already spoken up, she simply waited in silence for "Kat's" reply.

  • Diana:
Kat knew by the wink that she had a weirdo on her hands, but time would tell if this were one of those college professors that fancied themselves necromancers, or if he had some other lunatic motive. Just as she was about to begin the speech for a Tour-Of-One, the motorbike chic appeared. ...this one looked like a whole different sort of trouble herself! Kat checked her watched and slide off the back of her truck. "Yep..! Welcome to Fergie's Purgy Tour, I'll be your guide Kat..." she announced with very little enthusiasm. "Take this marker here and draw your letter on the back of your hand and I will give you both the rundown on how this tour is going to go..." She handed the marker first to the Guy.

  • Astaroth:
Greg took the marker and discreetly doodled what looked like a squiggly "A" on the back of his hand. "Thanks so much, Kat!" He handed the marker off with a flourish to Zahra. "I'm Greg, by the way. I'm just so thrilled for this opportunity."

  • Diana:
"Purgatory is - in the simplest terms - where souls hang out before they move on to where ever they're supposed to go. Heaven, Hell, Rebirth, Narnia, whatever. As one of the LIVING this letter we'll be carving on your hand is going to be the only thing protecting you from getting snatched up into the beyond or worse. Make sure it STAYS covered in your blood during the full tour." She full on GRIMACED at Greg. "This tour is going to look like a big fancy hallway with doors. Do. Not. Go. In. The. Doors. Don't listen to voices calling your name. Don't follow some hot piece of ass. Don't stop and have any conversations with sweet old men. Most often these are creatures using illusion to lure you deeper into purgatory where your body is going to be their new favorite toy. Weapons are permitted. Food is not. Should at any time I tell you to run, you better fucking run."

  • Astaroth:
"Of course," Greg replied, nodding to show that he Heard and Understood what Kat was telling him. His eyes were wide behind his glasses. "It's a very serious situation. Very dangerous."

  • Zarko Straadi:
Zahra subtly raised an eyebrow at "Kat's" introduction. She certainly did not seem to be taking the 'tour,' or her role as psychopomp very seriously. Then again, it was not uncommon for spiritual Masters to act in ways designed to subvert expectations. Zahra took the marker, closed her eyes for a moment to center herself, then drew a cryptic sigil on her hand in slow, deliberate strokes. She listened carefully to the woman's instructions, gave a slow nod, and handed her back the marker. In silence, she went back to her bike, opened a saddle bag, and retrieved a weapon belt and strapped it around her waist. It bore a matched set of khopesh swords with hieroglyphs inscribed down the blades. She was already wearing a shoulder-holster for an elaborate pistol. She returned to the group and said, "I'm ready."

  • Diana:
Ah hell, the chick had a full weapons set - this tour was going to be a hot mess. Kat bit back her heavy sigh, pulling a very small, rustic little knife from her back pocket. It didn't seem all that special or important, but apparently it was sharp as all fuck. As when she grabbed Greg's hand and made a few swipes along the letter he drew, it sliced through without snagging or pain. "If either of you have a specific goal for your tour in Purgatory today, I can help you achieved it where possible. But do keep in mind, we are not in the business of bringing back the dead - so don't ask." After wiping down her blade with what looked like a bargain bin alcohol wipe, Kat repeated the process for Zahra. "Do you have any last questions?"

  • Astaroth:
Greg nodded along with Kat, running his thumb over his skin to catch where the blood was trying to drip down his wrist. He sucked the digit clean, glancing between the two women. "So there won't be any chances for conversation with the locals? Just keep moving?"

  • Zarko Straadi:
Zahra shook her head. She didn't particularly care for the look the woman gave her when she put her weapons on. In the most ancient writings, the Companions of Re had to do battle to defend the Ship of Millions of Years on its journey through the Duat. And did she not herself say that the place was filled with hostile entities? She set that thought aside, and other thoughts about the seemingly dubious sanitation. But at least Kat's knife cut quick and clean.

  • Dusk:
"Am I too late?" Whitaker shouted from his jog over to the pickup truck. He was not good at running. He took several deep breaths once he'd reached the trio. "Am I too late?" He asked again, as if he hadn't already asked that. He would hate to miss out because he had lost track of time.

  • Zarko Straadi:
When her blood began to dribble, she took a small granite jar, inscribed with hieroglyphics and images of Djehwti (Thoth), Auset (Isis), and Herw (Horus) inlaid with gold leaf and used it to catch the flow. The research and divination that had revealed her Bloodletter also included the knowledge that she would have to keep fresh blood on her hand. Once the seepage slowed, she closed the jar with a tight-fitting stopper and put it back in its pouch on her sword belt.

  • Diana:
"Uh... just in time," Damn another one! "Quick, draw your letter," she handed the new comer the black marker and did a shorter, faster explination of the tour rules. "NO conversations with the locals..." she added on to answer Greg.

  • Astaroth:
Greg frowned briefly, but then quickly brightened again with a disarming smile as he turned to Whitaker. "And who might you be?"

  • Dusk:
Whitaker grinned with relief as he drew the C onto his hand. "Excellent, excellent," he said as he offered the marker back to Kat. His attention slipped to the other man. He returned the smile with one just as friendly, although much more tired. "I'm Professor Horace Whitaker, and you are?" He held out a pale freckled hand in greeting.

  • Astaroth:
"Greg Cunningham. Charmed, Professor," returned the blond with another wink, clasping Whitaker's hand in both of his. He glanced around. "Is that the last of us, then? Shouldn't we get moving now?"

  • Zarko Straadi:
"I am Zahra Rekhmire," she said to the men.

  • Diana:
Having no time to make quick first impressions about the Professor, Kat made sure to draw her own letter on her hand and carve it out. Without making a big production or ceremony about it, she stepped over to an area of the graveyard that had a natural arch formation in the bushes and trees. Holding out both her hands as if giving offering she started a few phrases under her breath - not latin and not any known living language to be sure. The air almost sizzled as if a crackling fire had been lit under their feet before a dark ominous doorway appeared rippling before their eyes. "Follow me and stay close." she announced, stepping through the portal without hesitation.

  • Dusk:
"A pleasure to meet you both, Mr Cunningham, Ms Rekhmire," he replied. Basic formalities aside his attention turned to their guide. He was quite interested in what language she was speaking and considered asking about it. However, that might be better suited to another time. Adjusting his bag he followed after her. He gave the portal a quick glance. Very interesting. And with only the smallest hesitation, stepped through.

  • Zarko Straadi:
As un-serious as Kat's operation seemed at first, her magic certainly delivered! She nodded acknowledgement to the men, then turned to the portal and stood with her right foot forward, hands held in front of her with bent elbows, palms forward "Hail to you, Djehwti, the Lord of Wisdom and of Utterance," she said in ancient Egyptian, "The God who cometh forth from the Veil." Then she confidently strode through the portal.

  • Diana:
The group found themselves in a long great hall just as their guide had described. The floors were black and white chessboard marble. The walls looked like boring plastic with wood baseboards. Simple, boring doors lined each side of the hall. Some with scuff marks. Some with photos, words, paint... The lightning gave a dim eerie glow and everything smelled of pickled eggs.

  • Astaroth:
Padding after the others, Greg flexed his fingers open and closed as he crossed the threshold. Blood, deep and red, welled up to the surface of the cuts, dripping onto the ground and then onto the checkered marble tile as he crossed over.

  • Diana:
"Purgatory tends to look different depending on the method and person that opens a gateway," Kat explained, leading the way down a hall. "Sometimes you'll get a big empty forest. Caves under ground. A vast ocean of souls. Desert sands. What we have here is a hall, nice and safe for curious tourists. I find that less people get lost this way."

  • Zarko Straadi:
Zahra nodded in understanding. That explained why the various ancient guidbooks to the Duat--Egyptian texts such as The Book of Coming Forth by Day, The Book of Gates, or the Pyramid Texts, the Tibetan Book of the Dead, ancient Gnostic texts and the like offered differing descriptions of the realms beyond the Veil.

  • Dusk:
Whitaker's hand was hurting and he didn't like that, but the extraordinary situation made it easier for him to ignore. The marbled floor made him want to organise a group to play a large game of chess with human pieces. A fantasy he had every time he'd seen such a floor. The walls and doors were far more interesting, however, and he lagged behind to give several of them a closer look. Scribbling little notes onto a small notepad. "A vast ocean of souls, really?" He asked with profound curiosity when he'd managed another little jog to catch back up. "Is there appearance you like best for it?"

  • Zarko Straadi:
Like Whitaker, Zahra also took notes, so she would not have to rely entirely on the miniaturized camera and microphone built into a lapis lazuli scarab pendant she wore to provide documentation of her journey.

  • Diana:
"I'd rather not be here at all," Kat said with a frown, not bothering to explain why. "The living don't belong in here. Any time you step into Purgatory you run the risk of not being able to get back out again. Not to mention the things that like to follow you out."

  • Diana:
The sweetest little bird whistle chirped from behind Whitaker and Greg. A lovely little song! When one turned around they spotted low to the ground a round... gooey, something or another. Jello? Slime? Whatever it was, it was chirping like a bird and jiggling!

  • Astaroth:
Greg, meanwhile, didn't write anything down. He paused briefly here and there to examine the doors--usually the same ones Whitaker kept pausing at, though not always--and run his fingertips over a scuff mark here, an etched word there. Every now and then he left a smudge of blood behind. He came up short again when he spotted the round slime creature, eyeing it speculatively from behind his glasses, one long finger tapping against his chin.

  • Dusk:
"Something might follow us out? Fascinating!" Whitaker said more to himself than to anyone else. Greg stopped first at the chirping, but Whitaker stopped only a moment later. He should have brought a camera. Well, shouldn't have left his in his room on his rush out. Maybe Ms Rekhmire would let him have copies. Whitaker took a step closer to the little creature and leaned forward to examine. Remarkable.

  • Diana:
The lil jiggly thing chirped and chirped and then... SPEWED SLIME ALL OVER WHITAKER as he leaned in. It actually kind of burned a little bit!

  • Diana:
"...yeah. Remember when I said don't stop to talk to anyone. Those count."

  • Zarko Straadi:
Zahra turned to the sound. Flexing her hand to make sure the blood was still flowing, she raised her right hand toward the being, elbow bent, palm forward: an ancient Egyptian pose of respectful greeting. But she heeded Kat's words, and kept her mouth shut. She backed away as it sprayed slime at Whitaker.

  • Dusk:
Whitaker recoiled and let out a small shout. He stumbled back and let off a small barrage of the mildest curses. He would've hated the sensation of the slime even if it wasn't burning. He wiped away what he could onto the cloth he pulled from his pocket, which had not gotten much slime itself, and then tucked it back into place. This was unfortunate. At least he could examine that later. "I didn't say a thing," he humphed. "I didn't," he repeated, this time to Mr Cunningham. The other man had witnessed the encounter, after all.

  • Diana:
Skitterskitterskitter, while Whitaker was busy being incensed by slime, something was skuttling across the ceiling. Something BIG. Something BUFF. Skin as red as the devil, with twisted goat horns. Limbs long but muscular, and hefty hooved feet. "Hello friends, it's me. Ya demon." His voice sounded like smooth butter! There was no telling how he was hanging off the ceiling like that without falling. "Oh hey, Katarin. Nice jumpsuit."

  • Diana:
"Eat shit, Kevin." she retorted, taking a turn and gesturing down a fresh hall. "If you'll follow me down this way I can show you the Balcony of Eternal Flames. Ignore Kevin if you know what's good for you."

  • Zarko Straadi:
"Check your hand," Zahra said. It was not impossible that a malign or mischieous spirit might use such an attack as a distraction; while the victim wiped the ectoplasm off their face, ectoplasm on their hand might be drying out their blood...

  • Zarko Straadi:
Zahra offered "Kevin" the same gesture of greeting, then turned away in accordance with Kat's words. Abrahamic demons were best not dealt with, in her opinion. I thought we weren't supposed to talk to the locals, she thought with a lopsided smirk.

  • Astaroth:
"He didn't," Greg backed up Whitaker's protests blithely, then lifted his eyes to the ceiling and wiggled his fingers in greeting. "Oh, well, hello Kevin. Are you here to do terrible, unspeakable things to us? How terrible, precisely? I mean, just so I know how scared I should be."

  • Diana:
"The most terrible things you could possibly imagine!" explained Kevin, not only grinning ear to ear at Katarin's insult, but even broader when one of the tour seemed eager to talk. "You know us demons, always in it for the torture." For a big monstrous demon, he sure spoke perfectly well and friendly. "You wouldn't happen to have any... desires you need fulfilled, would you?"

  • Diana:
"For fuck's sake, Kevin! Go haunt someone else's tour for souls!" shouted Kat. "I don't get paid if they don't come back in one piece!"

  • Dusk:
"Hm, oh? Thank you," Whitaker took a moment from trying to slick as much of the goo off as he could. There was no way he was going to get all of it off, but he would settle for most of it. At Ms Rekhmire's suggest he gave his examined his hand. His hand had been behind the pad and was not subject to the brunt of the slime. Still, out of caution he agitated the skin until more blood covered his hand. Whitaker was pleased that Greg had supported his protest but was surprised to see him so willing to talk to Kevin, after having just witnessed that. Although, if not talking had already ended poorly, would talking be much worse? What could they learn? Whitaker said nothing, yet. Kevin's response seemed a bit more blustering than anything. But then the slime had sounded adorable.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Zahra gave another lopsided smirk. As if she'd even talk to a demon, much less consider any offer of "desires fulfilled" with the demon outside of an inscribed Triangle of Manifestation and a ring of salt!

  • Astaroth:
"Oh, so many," Greg answered, nodding as he walked backwards after Kat to the Balcony. He didn't seem to have any qualms about pursuing this line of conversation. "But you wouldn't be able to help me with that, would you? And I'm not that sort of boy, honest."

  • Zarko Straadi:
Zahra began to worry about the conduct of the gentlemen on this expedition. Keeping the demon in her peripheral vision, she approached Kat. "You don't bring actual tourists on these 'tours,' do you? Surely a journey beyond the Veil should be reserved for the spiritually literate!" she said sotto voce.

  • Diana:
"Don't you mind old Katarin here, she just gets a lil jealous of us demons seeing as we're free agents and she is... Well, that doesn't matter! I am in the business of desires! Need that slime cleaned off before you get pregnant? I'm your demon. You need a good time? Here I am. Maybe you want a little information about the underworlds..." he mentioned, now slinking across the ceiling to Zahra. "All you have to do is ask. It doesn't cost much at all?"

  • Diana:
"He's in the business of getting you to sign bullshit contracts so he can take over your body and hang out top side. So unless you want your insides all fucked up, I'd suggest you stop entertaining his bullshit." warned Kat.

  • Dusk:
Whitaker kept silent. He flipped a page and started to jot notes about the interactions. It might be useful for later. He followed after Kat. Then he stopped. Wait, what? "I-is that true?" He asked, question distinctly directed at Kat.

  • Diana:
Kat just sort of grimaced at Zahra, which was answer enough itself as to the sorts she took on tours. "What? That they're trying to knock you up? Everything in here is looking for a way out. They're gonna get out one way or another..."

  • Astaroth:
Greg looked a little too intrigued at the phrase "insides all fucked up" for probably anyone's comfort, but seemed to be distracted by the threat of Whitaker's looming pregnancy. His eyes dropped from Kevin to the professor, walking closer to examine him. "Do you feel any different?" he asked, head tilting to one side as he placed the back of his bleeding hand against Whitaker's forehead.

  • Zarko Straadi:
Zahra gave a nod of respect in "Kevin's" direction, but she did not answer or meet his eyes. She would not disrespect a spirit in this place as long as it did not attack her, but she had no interest in the dubious "knowledge" the demon had on offer. She responded to Kat's grimace with a brief look of shock. But there was nothing for it now; the Mundanes, and perhaps Kat herself, were way out of their depth.

  • Diana:
"He's fine. He's not likely to get knocked up so long as he doesn't touch anything else," insisted Kat. She flipped Kevin double birds, who snorted smoke in response. "On that note, it's super freaking important that none of you have touched anything, or dropped anything, or have broken any *other* rules besides talking to this horned jackass. The further we go in, the more weird shit starts to happen, and the more spellcraft I have to prepare before we can leave safely without taking anything out with us. ALRIGHT? Alright..."

  • Dusk:
Whitaker chuckled nervously. Removing the slime had been a matter of convenience before. It seemed more important now. He had just finished slipping one strap of his backpack off of his shoulder when Greg came over. He frowned slightly at the bloody hand on his forehead. "I-I'm just fine. Please," he pushed Greg's arm away. He wanted to protest that he hadn't touched the slime, it had touched him. But instead he pouted and said nothing.
