Blood Bond

Rayne looked over at Milia slightly. Her beauty was truely something out of this world. He placed a hand over his heart as he felt it thumping in his chest. Even Milia's voice was soothing. Like hummingbirds in the spring time.

"So... I know its hard adjusting to being here but.. I hope that you stay a while.. you'll get used to it - I promise"

I know it will, Milia. But, I dont want your reputation to get ruined on my account. Thats why I have been avoiding you so much..."

He looked ahead of him once more. Afraid now as he shook slightly.

Milia couldn't believe what she was hearing -the thought sickened her.

"So.. so Thats why you have been avoiding me really? -listen I dont care about my reputation... its not like I made it on purpose.." She shrugged thinking about how she was stereotyped and categorized from the moment she arrived -but in a better light than they were percieving Rayne now.

This upset her more.

"Its not important to me okay? I will be friends with whoever I want.. now.. now promise me.. no more running away?" She urged him softly, stepping closer, and feeling her stomach flutter.

This kid had a spell on her.

Rayne looked back at her. He was shocked once again, by what Milia had spoken. Seems she wanted to be more like him. Average. But all in all, she was almost too perfect for him.

He stopped then turned to face her, cheeks burning in embarrassment at what he was getting ready to say. He gulped slightly, and then grasped Milia's hands in his own. He raised them up to his chest and spoke softly.

"Milia...I-" He hesitated momentarily as he shook slightly. If he didn't at least attempt to tell her how he felt, he would regret it forever. He took a deep breath and attempted to speak once again.

"I really, really like you and I-" Frozen once again. Rayne tried to speak again. Nothing.

He stood there in place, looking into Milia's eyes, frozen at her beauty.

Milia was startled by his words -had he just said what she thought he did? and then afterwards it seemed as if silence engulfed them. He had obviously said what he needed to, or couldn't bring himself to say anymore and now it was her turn -but what could she say? her attention shifted between him and his heartbeat which she could feel through his chest as he pressed her hands against it.

She couldn't help herself -her fangs slowly protracted though she kept her mouth shut so not to reveal them, along with her skin growing colder than before. She felt the need to snatch away, for fear she might lash out on him and attack, but she only somehow focused her attention only to his eyes. avoiding the veins in his neck and such, feeling her fangs retract and when safe she sighed silently in relief.

"I ... I like you a lot too.. and I want to get to know you a whole lot better"

No way, no way, no way! Did he just say all of that? He looked at Milia for a few more moments then down at her her hands. Rayne couldn't believe it! He looked back up at Milia and his heart began to race even more now. She had just admitted thaty she liked him the same way he liked her. That explained why she kept trying to get him to talk and always came around him.

She really was like the girl in the book and the guy was just like him. Strange though, could the book be telling his life story? No, he was just over reacting. But still, it could be possible.

As much as he wanted to stay and soak in the moment for a little longer, he had to return to class. Otherwise, the teacher would have though he was avoiding class. As much as he didn't want to return knowing that those boys were there, he had no choice.

He slowly lowered Milia's hands as I he spoke with a blush, turning opposite of her.

" I have to return to class now" With that being said he waved goodbye and headed down the hall.

Milia blinked in the direction that Rayne was going -did that just happened? what exactly did she just confess? the she had only known this boy today and was already saying that she liked him? how did he take it? -was she just rejected or..?. These were all questions she wanted to ask but couldnt, for he was already down the hall and she took too long to think about it.

She sighed and turned away, shaking her head and blinking a few times before heading back to class, even though it was the furthest thing on her mind, the only thing she wondered was what happened next in his book -because the irony of it was far too great.

She made a mental note to ask the next time she seen him.

Rayne walked inside his class and everyone was hard at work. What a relief too. He walked past the two boys with a smile and blush on his face and sat in his desk. Both of the boys looked at each other then back at Rayne with confused looks on their faces. After they stared for a few more moments, they both strugged then looked back in their textbooks. Rayne sighed happily as he looked down at his desktop.

"Milia..." He said quietly to himself, rubbing his left index finger on his desktop in a circle. All he could think about was Milia and how she had said she felt the same way that he did. He took the book out of his backpack and looked it over one more time, reading the summary. It was still strange how everything in the book was happening to him in reality. But, as of now, he wasn't really too worried about it.

"Alright class, we will be taking a little field trip to the art museum . If any of you can't go, I would like for you to notify me as soon as possible. That way, we can get an accurate count and everything situated for when the time come" The teacher said, as she turned around to face the class.

A field trip? Rayne was skeptical about going. then again, perhaps Milia would be going. He looked out the window as he began to go into deep thought.

Milia reluctantly went back to class. There was no way she would be able to concentrate, but she knew if it got really bad, she could just copy Yuki's notes and call it a day. A sigh escaped her lips as she slumped down in her seat -avoiding the stares that always happened when someone walks in and class has already begun.

It seemed the period had gone by rather quickly -or maybe it was that she was out longer than she thought she was. Milia was never one to skip class, but seeing Rayne had been worth it. "Why are you looking like that?" Yuki whispered to her, as the teacher continued trying to cram notes on the projector for the last ten minutes of class. Milia had only wrote a few sentences before drifting out into space, but Yuki's voice had brung her back down to earth and she blinked at her friend a few times before smiling to herself and beginning to doodle on her paper.

"No reason..." She answered in a whisper, and avoiding her friends eyes by continuing to draw.

"Hm.. well.. are you going on the field trip? -I dont know if its today or not but I know its something that everyone can go to."

Milia was about to say no, but the thought of Rayne going crossed her mind and she looked up at her friend

"Yeah.. Im going.. of course Im going -now can I see you're notes?"

Rayne sighed happily. Milia was all he could think about right now. He knew he had to take notes, but he was too lost in thought to even write. He looked down at the walkway through the window at the flowers as he drifted of into a daydream.

"Rayne.....Will you...well um..." Milia looked down shyly as she grabbed her right arm with her left hand.

"Will I what, Milia?" Rayne said as he grabbed Milia's arms firmly in his ands.

"Rayne I-" she stopped in mid-sentence as she slowly brought her lips close to Rayne's.

"Milia, you are so...beautiful" He said softly, as he brought his lips close to hers as well.

"Rayne..."

"Milia...."

As they readied to kiss each other, the bell rung loudly and Rayne shook his head.

"Alright class, tomorrow when you come to class, we will begin preparing for the trip. So get your things ready tonight, if you plan on going." The professor said , as the class headed out the door. Rayne smiled a little then paccked his bag and headed out the room.

The day had went by more swiftly than Milia expected, and as soon as the bell rang she raced out of the classroom, avoiding all of the major hallways and going to long way instead -she just needed more time to dwell on this by herself -all these feelings which were now surfacing.

The thought of her with Rayne only made her giggle like a small school girl, because it was just so improbable that the fact that they were this far already was just ... funny.

Love was always funny -but then wait, why did that word keep presenting itself in her head? she had just met this boy and it seemed the word was familiarizing itself more and more with her.

She had to snap herself out of this -and not rush it, but rather let it develop on its own and if it happens then it happens. She was never one to care what people thought of her whether it was in a good light or bad.

Even though she hoped to be able to at least say good bye to him, she had all tomorrow hopefully.

As long as he was going on that trip.

Rayne walked out his class and looked around. The other students were moving around the halls. They all chattered as well as some guys and girls gave him annoyed looks. But, at that moment, he honestly didn't care. All he could think about was Milia. He looked down as he blushed and his heart raced. The feeling of his heart pounding in his chest seems to grow slightly, almost as if it were a heart attack.

He looked up at the clock and then walked towards the window ahead of him. He rested his forearms on the panel and rested his chin on them. A small sigh escaped his lips as he gazed down at the flowers. They swayed slowly in the wind and he gazed at them. Milia was heavy on his mind and he slowly felt something bubbling up inside of him. Love.

He closed his eyes for a moment before reopening them. Now he was wondering if Milia was going on the trip as well.

Rayne decided that the next time that he saw her, he would ask.

She liked the guy.

Now that she knew the basics of her feelings for Rayne, Milia had to think about what should come next -should she tell him? that she liked him? and she missed him? would it be too much if she hugged him next time?

-it was as if her mind was creating this blurry picture in her head of how she should approach him, what she should say. She had had crushes before, but nothing even remotely close to this. Rayne was so shy and different, he stood out no matter where he was, mainly because he didn't conform to anything the school set up -uniform and attitude wise.

Milia didn't know whether that was voluntary or involuntary but either way.. she didn't care.

"Different .. can be good" She whispered to herself, before continuing to make her way through the halls.

Rayne walked through the halls looking down at his bag. Milia voice was running through his head like a marathon. Milia....Milia...Milia....oh that name, so sweet and wonderful. He closed his eyes and smiled. The vision of Milia began to engulf him and he blushed.

It was amazing, she grabbed his face in between her hands and brought her lips close to his. The hair flowing gently over her face. She whispered his name gently as she closed her eyes. Her lips were so close....so close....He slowly closed his eyes and slowly readied to kiss back.

"What are you doing?"

Rayne opened his eyes and looked at whoever it was that had spoken. Before him, stood a group of girls in uniform. One however, stood in the center of the m all with red blue, shoulder-lenght hair and light-red eyes. Rayne gulped, speechless.

"He was doing whatever he felt like doing..." Milia answered the awkward question. In all reality she had no idea what he was doing, but she had seem him from a few feet away and thought if not now then never would this be the perfect opportunity to intervene -only so she could speak to him and be around him again.

She knew no one would really object to her explanation -after all she was Milia. She approached him slowly, uncaring of the eyes that were probably on them though she hoped that they weren't.

She smiled and cupped her hands in front of her, keeping her distance, because she could smell his flesh from here and it was almost too good, to the point she felt like tasting it.

"So .. we just keep running into each other" She initiated the first words with a nervous laugh.

The girl looked over at Milia with a glare as she moved her hair out away from her left eye. She wrinkled her nose as if she was disgusted that Milia was taking up for the commoner that bumped into her. She placed her right hand on her hip and poked it out slightly as she looked back at her friends momentarily, before returning her attention back to Milia and Rayne.

Well, learn to keep your pet at your side Milia, otherwise, he may find himself getting into something he can't get out of. Come on girls, lets get out of here, I don't want to catch whatever this dog has." The girls all laughed as they flicked there hair, turning away and walking down the hall.

Rayne only sat down, speechless as he looked at the floor. Maybe she was right, maybe he was nothing more than a dog who didn't deserve to be treated like a human being. Maybe he was nothing but dirt. He sighed as he looked down at the floor. Then closed his eyes as he bagan thinking about his mom and dad.

Milia glared at the girls as they past -not really caring what they thought but only that it seemed to be affecting Rayne who was really growing on her and continued to do so -she almost felt she had to protect him from things like this, but also brace herself for it because she knew that being involved with someone who was different than everyone else would be dangerous -but with Rayne it seemed he was worth taking the risk for.

She looked down at him sympathetically -she could tell that everything they said had sunk down into his core -and then she remembered his smile, how it lit up her day and it pained her to know that someone had snatched that from him, when he was finally adjusting even at the slightest. She knelt down before him then slowly, not hearing any of the loud noise and talking around them -only seeing Rayne and blinking a few times before resting one hand in his lap and with the other, lifting his chin until he was eye level with her. Her expression was blank for a while as she tried to think of the right words to say to him -anything to cheer him up but also give him a reality check.

"Listen to me Rayne.. I know it sounds hard but... you have got to be stronger than this.. dont let what those girls said or what anyone says bring you down because chances are years or even months from now you wont even remember their faces okay? they dont matter.. their opinions dont count... you should only care what the people YOU CARE ABOUT think of you.. sure you are different and sure not everyone adjusts to different.. but you have got to realize that it doesn't matter -who cares what they think.. I think you are the most awesome person Ive come across all year -really I do.. I need you to trust me and let down that wall you have up.. but also keep your heart guarded for situations like these so they dont get to you.. I know it might sound hard but.." Her voice trailed as she stood, reaching a hand down to them as a small smile etched across her face "We will both do it.. together"

Rayne sat in place only looking at the ground. Once again, he was treated as nothin more than a dog or more so, dirt. Well, if the people around him said it, that is what he was. The halls were noisy with chatter and mumbling. Rayne didn't care in the least at the moment. The only thought that was going through his head was -I want to go home- As tears filled his eyes he heard Milia's voice and his eyes widened in suprised.

Soon after he heard the girl's walk away, but he didn't look up. Only stared at the floor. He sighed lowly to himself but, jumped slightly as Milia's hand rested on his lap as well as she lifted his chin slowly as she raised his head so that they were eye level.

I know it might sound hard but.."

Rayne's eyes shook slightly. As much as he was afraid to admit it, she was right he had to be tougher. Otherwise, he would get kicked around constantly. But still, even if he stood up for himself, he was only get beat up as a result. It was a losing situation either way. He blushed as his heart raced. The more he stared into Milia's eyes, the more he felt as if he was on clouds. The sound of mumbling and chatter came to a cease, as his attention focused only on Milia's eyes. But it was only brief as Milia stood up and extended her hand .

"We will both do it.. together"

Rayne smiled as he grasped Milia's hand firmly with his own and stood up, speaking softly. " I..will...do..my..best...Milia."

Thats all she expected was for Rayne to do his best. After she helped him up she walked with him. "So Rayne.. I have something to tell you and dont freak out okay?" she asked him before saying what she wanted to say -it was really moving forward, but she figured that the only way she would really be able to know Rayne was to talk with him in a different setting, and so she just took the chance to ask.

"Rayne... would you like to go maybe to the fair with me? its this Saturday and I.. still haven't found anyone I want to go with.. but I think it would be fun to I dont know.. get to know each and other and stuff so.. what do you say?"

She braced waiting for his reply, it was like rush and roulette now.

He looked at her after she asked him to escort her to the fair that was going to be held on Saturday. All kinds of feeling bubbled inside him which in returned, triggered a smile on his face. It would be a perfect opportunity to hang out with Milia even more. The best part is that he would be spending a whole day with her outside of school. That was more than enough for him to give a yes to her question. A small blush crept up on his cheeks. He looked down and pressed his index fingers together, shyly.

"W-well, If you really want to...I don't mind going with you, Milia." His voice resonated a hint of nervousness and he shook slightly. What would he do? He would practically be alone with Milia, or so he hoped he would be.

He looked back up at her with curious eyes, waiting to see how she would respond to his answer.

Milia's face lit up as he accepted. She stopped in her tracks and hugged him tightly "Oh my gosh you have no idea how excited I am.. I love the fair and the rides and games and... I think what I like the most is Im going with someone who I just cannot wait to spend time with" she confessed with a blush as she let go of him and smiled as she let her eyes sweep the ground instead of looking up at him -it seemed she was being the shy one now.

"So I guess.. Ill just meet you there around noon?... " she asked him after a few silent moments, now she let her eyes gaze upon his -god his were so beautiful, to her at least, because she didn't really care what any one else had to say to her about them or Rayne in general. She liked him and that was really all that mattered to her.
