Darcy is often calm about everything, though deep inside her emotions may be exploding. Growing up taught to hide her emotions, she is seen as cold and distant when there are any discussions about emotional wellbeing. Her actions speak louder than her words or facial expressions, showing her compassionate nature and that she's not some unfeeling being. Even when conversating about something exciting her tone can come off entirely nonchalant, yet in reality she could be just as ecstatic as someone else. Some dub her an ice queen in a sense, but her friends know otherwise even if it took time to discover that side of Darcelle. However don't think she won't bluntly speak her mind when the time calls for it; she is far from someone who sits idle in the background, refusing to shy from a challenge or what she does believe in. She advocates for most species including Magi, and that is one of her many unpopular beliefs within her kind.

STRENGTHS
🧋 She's amazing at keeping secrets and holding her emotions behind a mask, which can bite her in the arse down the road, but overall helps in diplomatic situations and during arguments. Sometimes her calm nature even helps deescalate something before it truly begins.
🧋 While it's hard to gauge this, she's quite empathic and compassionate. She loves lending a helping hand, even if she comes off cold and disinterested on accident.​
WEAKNESSES
🧋 She's one of the most disorganized people around, both on her laptop and in her room. There are a thousand notes on her computer, and her chambers would be a wreck if it weren't for someone else handling the means. However no one would guess it from outward appearance.
🧋 Due to her tendency to hide her emotional turmoil, she tends to explode or lose her composure when alone in her chambers before bed. This breakdown stems to varying degrees depending on how many upsetting things occurred or how busy the day was without any time to go enjoy some solitude.
🧋 Due to her upbringing and her mother's strict parenting, she sees her own emotions as a weakness to hide but doesn't assume the same for others who struggle with the same feelings. She'll support others, basically be a listening ear and unofficial therapist friend, but her own emotions are a monster or demon in her head; very hypocritical but her mother nurtured this by teaching her daughter not to express her emotions, therefore the blame is not solely on Darcelle.​

HISTORY
Darcelle is the first-born and only full-blooded daughter to Dorothy and Killian McGrath. From the time she was born, she was expected to do things a specific way and Dorothy was rather strict about it, leaving Killian to be the loving and adoring father and parent that Darcy needed. Thanks to her dad, the young vampir was a chipper and hyper little one.

However everything changed the day her father passed away, when she was nearly five, from a car accident; this left her alone with her mother as her only caregiver. This began the slow descent into her cold exterior, the weight of expectations crushing her with no one to support her emotional wellbeing. Two years after the loss, her mother remarried to Augustin, who had a son of his own around her age, and the family of two moved to Nuremberg, Bavaria.

Seeing as the only two people Darcelle and Adrian had were each other, outside their parent figures, the two got used to being in the same proximity. She closed herself off after the loss of her father, seeing as he was the only hint of compassion she saw, yet Adrian managed to gain her trust before she truly closed herself off from others almost entirely. They became two peas in a 'the world fell to crap' pod, and from there each other's support system. While Darcelle can't stop her mother from her awful acts towards her stepbrother, she can sure as hell comfort him after and make him momentarily have a highlight in his day. Despite all this, by her tenth birthday, she was considered an ice queen to those who weren't her family and sometimes even her friends.

Eventually the two got half siblings. Marcus, an utter annoying pest in Darcy's book, and Emma who had traits of her elder sister. Daily life included constantly living up to her mother's expectations, in all but the unshared views, and focusing on schooling and skills. Then there was the pressure from a young age that Dorothy wanted her to marry someone for political reasons and gain some standing, as if they didn't have any already.

Of course, Darcelle was the favorite despite all the expectations and never wanted for anything material due to many spoils; but instead of becoming like Marcus, she was the opposite end of the spectrum. Because she was so lucky, minus how her mother treated her best friend in the form of a stepbrother, she wanted to share her spoils. So she began to dive into event planning, which started with minor parties into charities down the road. Her parents had connections that got her a foot into the door of such jobs, and her skills proved her worth in the field.

Hosting one of these events is how she met her ex-girlfriend, a Magi, and started a private relationship that spanned five years. It only ending thanks to her mother declaring she would marry a Blacke and move to Cervia. Despite her protests to put it off, so she could remain home to support Adrian emotionally, it fell on deaf ears. And seeing as Augustin never stepped in, she was shipped off to be wed and in another country altogether.

Now she's been married four years, made some connections in Cervia, and making regular visits to tea shops. Now that Adrian has been in Cervia a year, she visits him every three months, usually spending a weekend to five days in Elkwood, Pennsylvania. Due to the duration it takes to get there, it can't be monthly as she'd like to.

She actually told her brother Adrian, as she trusted him with the knowledge of the interspecies relationship. HEALTH NOTES
A+ Blood Type | Not many are told this, though her doctors know, but she was diagnosed with Autism as a child, on the higher functioning side of the spectrum. There are some insomnia issues and slight hints of depression, but those tie into her diagnosis. She also is typically cold, and struggles to regulate her body heat, thanks to one of her traits as a fae-mer hybrid; this means she does rarely sweat.

Her most common use for this is moving around her loft and her oddity shop, seeing as it has things everywhere with a makeshift path to navigate through. She is so quiet she accidentally scares customers and and those she knows using this ability. (Imagine Mrs. Kim's house/shop in Gilmore Girls, because her loft and shop is basically that level of hoarding crap.)
✨ Merfolk Side: Aquatic Zoolingualism (Not Great at, Unpracticed) | Minimal Water Manipulation | All of the abilities standard for a typical Ceylon merfolk, which can be found in more depth here.​

✨ Fae Side: While she can pass through most materials and objects, including glass due to her quiet and slower nature, she struggles with iron and silver or anything thicker than her own height. However, she gets entirely stumped when it comes to gels. The texture is too off putting for her sensitive and easily-overstimulated senses, and she loses focus of her powers due to it.

When submerged in water, she has a fishtail, dorsal fin, and fins on the back of her forearms. Her pointed ears are the main indicator of her fae heritage, even during some time well-spent in the ocean or larger bodies of water. She has gills that open up in her neck, that allow her to breathe underwater, but these do not show when out of the water thanks to her lungs taking over the function of breathing.

Her tail is actually a moon tail, with a luminescent glow, meaning it changes under the light of the moon and during the winter season. During all other seasons, it's a vibrant gold, with accents of white sprinkling some scales here and there near the end and top of her tail where it meets the fin and her waist. All her fins are a bright gold. In the winter time, the colors swap entirely; this makes it white with gold accents where the white used to be, and it takes on some green between the gold and white scales. In these occurrences, all her fins take on a celestial white color that mimic and compliment the moon.

HAIR
Her long hair is silver and straight with a part in the middle at all times, usually keeping it in two high pigtails.
EYES
Her eyes are an emerald green with a bit of a brighter hue.
SKIN DETAILS
Her skin is on the light, fair side; it often comes off from a soft cream color to a slightly warm beige. In medium lighting, or with shadows, it takes on a slightly darker hue of light peach in areas.
NOTABLE FEATURES
✨ Often is misconceived as younger than her age, mainly due to how her facial features are. Her personality isn't doing her many favors on this either.
✨ She has distinct pointed ears like others of faekind, but she is a wingless fae. While she is more fae overall, her hybrid DNA did effect her developing wings making her basically flightless.
✨ Both of her ears are pierced, and she always sports her golden water drop earrings with a fake red gemstone in both ears.
✨ Anyone who meets her notes her distant expression, often daydreaming or distant from what's happening in reality at the given time; this can be an array of moods: smiling, frowning, neutral, and maybe even a content but not super elated one.
✨ She has no birthmarks or tattoos, but she does have a long scar on her right side from when she fell learning to ride a bike.​

WARDROBE
♡ Daily Wear: She usually wears modern attire, preferring striped tee shirts and tighter-fit jeans on most occasions. Normally she wears an array of: whites, golds, blacks, and browns. Though she does try to sprinkle in lots of nature colors and flowers when she can too as accents. All her shoes are worn from exploring the nature or surrounding paths wherever she lives: her converse, her combat boots, her sandals (for quicker trips to get outside), and some simple brown boots. No clothing is safe from her escapades, and she often doesn't spend long on the tee shirt or pants colorations, mainly going for whatever is clean. When she's cold, she throws on or carries a simple black jacket/hoodie with a fake gold zipper.
♡ Helping at the Inn: She wears her daily attire, but she throws on an apron that she's thrown some stickers on as decoration. She's found magical ways to get the stickers to stay or not get ruined in the washing machine and dryer. She also always has at least three herbs in the apron, even with months of not using it due to only visiting now.
♡ Running Her Shop: She wears her normal attire, but she throws on a lanyard to indicate she goes by Xak and her role as shop owner and repairwoman.
♡ Sleep Wear: She takes her hair down and throws on a night gown, or a tank top and shorts. White or gold are, again, a staple for her even in bedtime attire. When she's cold, since her typical choices are spaghetti straps or short-sleeved tees, she smothers and bundles herself in more blankets. She becomes a 'bug in a rug' or 'cricket in a rug' according to her family. On some occasions though, she does throw on a brown cardigan her grandma gave her. If she gets up in the middle of the night, she throws on some cat slippers.
♡ Formal Attire: When there are family events that need something more formal, she throws on her white-and-gold outfit. Heels are a no go, so she sports her simple, tall brown boots or flats. Usually she goes for the boots unless she's in a sundress though, making the flats better for any simple sundresses on rarer occasions. Family photos are usually a sundress.

Xak was raised by her father, a free spirit much like herself, and had unique experiences during her childhood that shaped her and who she is. She embodies a captivating blend of whimsy and depth, floating through life with a carefree spirit that's both enchanting and perplexing. Her unconventional outlook leads her to find beauty in the most unexpected corners, scavenging for cheap junk and hidden trinkets that spark her vivid imagination. Stuck in her own little world, Xak's mind flits through daydreams, propelling her creativity and nurturing a thoughtful disposition.

While her aloofness often makes her seem distant, her kindness shines through in the way she helps and comforts others, offering an open ear and gentle heart. She's a free spirit, unabashedly herself—unafraid to embrace her unique identity as an Ethereal fae and Ceylon merfolk hybrid, not understanding why being different is frowned upon by some others in society. Though absentminded and easily distracted, her curiosity knows no bounds, leading her into delightful tangents and unexpected accidental adventures. A passive and nonconformative soul, she navigates change with hesitance yet remains a beacon of encouragement, urging those around her to embrace their quirks and differences. In her presence, one feels the joyous liberation of thinking outside the box. She's a reminder that life's magic often lies in its unpredictability, and that with the bad there is always something good.

Whether interacting with a stranger or a friend, she always seems far from anxious and on edge. It takes a lot, usually overstimulation to the extreme, to push her over the edge; when she is in that situation, she just refuses to discuss a topic until someone makes her. If she won't discuss it, it's bothering her, and that's the tell to indicate so. She'll play it off like she's fine, intending to cry about it later in her solitude, but if a friend is persistent, it may pop up sooner. Often this results in her apologizing afterward, feeling guilty for bringing down the mood if it was a good one moments prior. She's also pretty forgiving of most occurrences, maybe even too much, excluding anyone accusing her of killing her mother.

STRENGTHS
✨ While many may assume she's too easily distracted for studies, her curiosity acts in such a way that helps her do well with subjects of intense interest. Instead of being hindered by being curious, it becomes the reason she asks questions no one else might. This leads her down a rabbit hole of subjects. She delves into things at such a depth that she ends up needing access to higher-end books to get answers and often still is left with questions. When she isn't nose deep in fictional and fantasy worlds, she is reading how to repair an object or learning about history. Often the two coincide and more, and most subjects keep her interest as long as she can delve deeper into it to scary degrees. She loves learning new things, and it becomes an obsession or special interest. This deep need for knowledge and understanding is the very reason she earned a scholarship towards her degree, meaning most of her college experience was paid for.
✨ She's amazing at ignoring judgement and not letting it phase her. While it can add up eventually, and did back in her pre-teens, she has a strong tolerance and sees no reason to conform to societal norms. She's unafraid to be herself and announce who she is, seeing no shame in being the individual you're meant to be. There are moments her past makes her wonder, but it rarely ever shows. While some may see her lack of self-consciousness as a weakness, she sees it as a strength that no one can dim her light.​
WEAKNESSES
✨ Being bad at social cues, she often misses nuances in both romantic and platonic situations, sometimes forcing friends to tell her something outright. If they don't tell her outright, she remains oblivious to what she's done or how to improve. But if she's told, she's entirely willing to put her best foot forward and strive to do her best. Often she still needs friends to mention it directly, but it helps her in a world where body language and facial expressions are a complete mystery and foreign language. While some understand the silent cues, they all are the same to her and are basically gibberish. Luckily, she offers the same curtesy by expressing her thoughts in a raw, bluntly honest way when absolutely needed; sometimes giving too many details when she doesn't intend to.
✨ She's a hoarder to a fault which impacts: her bedrooms growing up, her loft and shop now, and anything that is her area of living really. She has endless trinkets and items others would deem as junk, that she has plans to fix or has been fixed and is ready to sell or use. Some are actually valuable objects, and some are common household junk yet it lays with everything else. In her eyes, anything can be repaired or repurposed without needing to be discarded. This makes navigating her shop difficult, despite clear paths, because she could have items in completely different spots. Often she has to spend over half an hour looking for something, after using her powers to phase through objects, then go back to the customer to guide them to it on a normal path.
✨ Her unconventional way of thinking can be a blessing and a curse, often leaving some people with mixed feelings about their interactions with her or assume she is much younger than she actually is. She often forgets small things like how not everyone can phase through objects, or how distant she can look even when interested. This also is a double-edged sword, meaning any small talk is hard for her to focus on and she can genuinely lose interest.
✨ Due to the fact her mother died giving birth to her, she tends to blame herself. This is kept a huge secret from most others, but this is a common theme in any nightmares she has to this day. Despite the loving stories of her deceased mother and no one blaming her directly, some part of her harbors the guilt and has since the day she was born. Any accusation that references this ordeal and her self-initiated guilt will affect her unlike other judgements. Someone may even see her extremely rare defensive and angry side, something most can't say they've seen unless they are specific family members.​

HISTORY

Xakandra is the only child to Neppiana and Xakath Hollow-Eve. Losing her mother during her birth, she grew up with her father on their houseboat in Berwyn Harbor. For her first twelve years of life, she learned about the houseboat and and bonded over trinkets they found during any escapades. Both were odd personalities in the local community of Berwyn, unafraid to be themselves, and she had a happy childhood. She was allowed to ask about her deceased mother and heard numerous stories, often turning to books to try to imagine what her mom was like. The pair was normally in the harbor or on the waters, but the two traveled every so often.

Xakandra was placed in the public school system, where anyone who was against hybrids singled her out. She was raised to be proud of her identities, so she held no shame in discussing it which pulled negative attention. Yet, she still held strong on her belief that nothing was wrong with her hybrid nature. While she struggled with mathematics, she excelled at all other subjects. Social situations were avoided, unless she was around her father. Sometimes she'd try to make friends, and sometimes she wouldn't. It was mood dependent. Xakath began to suspect something with up with school when she was twelve years old. Her teachers said she didn't volunteer to answer questions, and she would be quieter than normal in class. She came home so free-spirited and carefree, yet she was keeping answers she knew to herself. That was the first clue off that she was facing judgement from her peers. The second one was her not wanting to discuss her school day; no subject was off the table for the father and daughter until then.

Around her thirteenth birthday, it became clear to Xakath his daughter was being bullied by some extreme speciesists and began to need a mother figure; despite her brave face to pretend nothing was wrong or bothering her. So Xakath made the tough choice to move the two to Sayby Falls, Manitoba, where his parents and siblings were located near the family business—an inn matching the family name. It took no time, thanks to the five-minute walk to her aunts and uncles and grandparents, for the young fae-mer hybrid to form close bonds with the family she'd always heard stories about. Now she had not just names but also faces. Her grandmother began to home school her, at her father's request.

She formed the closest connections with Siobhan, who became a maternal figure and sisterly one for her, and her grandpa. When she turned fifteen, she was over at the inn so much, when not looking for trinkets and random junk, that she offered to help out. This turned into a job where she spent the next eight years saving up to open her own oddity shop. She loved the surrounding nature, and would sneak out for walks on her own accord, despite the legends surrounding Sayby Falls. She decided to use the years following secondary school to enroll in a local university as well, studying in history and archeology to get a Bachelor's degree. Her entire family attended her graduation, and she managed to get some small side gigs that allowed for travel.

Her occasional travels led to her passing through some larger cities, and certain ones caught her eye to set up her little oddity shop. Finally around her 23rd birthday, she was able to move and open her own shop in Black City, Washington, naming it Wares of the Lost. In between collecting her endless 'trinkets' and fixing them up, she loves running her shop and going on travels when she can. It's thanks to how well she saves money she can afford to, but even then she is still only middle class. She often writes to her family back in Sayby Falls, especially Siobhan, and tries to call once a week but sometimes forgets. Every year for her father's birthday, she goes to visit, and she often finds herself slipping into the old habits of daily routine there. The number of times she accidentally begins helping at the inn only grows each visit.
