Name: Chelsea Cirocco
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Class: Mage
Weapon(s) and Equipment:
- An enchanted, unbreakable flute
- a golden bangle
- mage robes
- school uniform
- mage books
- magical wind chimes
Element: Wind
Combat Info: Range really doesn’t matter to Chelsea, as a wind mage. Though capable of casting like other mages – including nonverbal casting - Chelsea prefers to cast through song or music. Her spells are amplified when she uses her enchanted flute.
Wind Shield – An invisible wall of wind that alters the course of projectiles, and slows and deflects melee strikes. The spell lasts as long as Chelsea concentrates on it. A quick spell version is also possible, but only lasts for a single attack.
Wind Shear – A gust of wind cuts through the air, and whatever else in its path, sharp as scissors. The attack is only slightly stronger than a knight’s blade, though does possess the magical quality to potentially slice through magical wards and defenses.
Enchant – A spell that only works with song or music, but mesmerizes and confuses anyone within hearing distance. Chelsea can choose those who are affected by the spell and those who are immune.
Zephyr – Chelsea can temporarily impart the blessing of the wind upon herself, or an ally, which grants enhanced speed and quickness for a brief amount of time.
(My intent is to keep these from being overpowered, yet still powerful. I’m not sure how well I’ve done, and I’m not sure I will until I see others’ spells).
Non-Combat Info:
Great Singer and musician
Good listener
An above average student – though excels in subjects which interest her (art, poetry, magecraft, enchantments)
Horrendous cook
Adept studier
Proficient dancer
Expert of proper etiquette
Backstory:
Clan Cirocco are well-known for their ownership of the largest private naval fleet, and have made their wealth through ownership of two of the largest port towns in the kingdom. Many members of the minor houses are captains who explore new trade routes, and protect the older ones. While an affinity with the wind element is shared through the bloodline, only the main line possess the unique ability to cast through music.
The second child of Count Demetri Cirocco, head of the Cirocco clan, Chelsea’s childhood was one of privilege and luxury. That’s not to say that it was without worry – although not the heir apparent, she had the same pressure and expectations placed upon her as her older brother.
Chelsea was primarily raised by a governess and seldom saw her parents beyond the occasional special occasion, and even then there was no personal time. While she was distant with her parents, she was close to her brother, Connor, who adored and doted on her. They were raised together, until Connor turned thirteen and was sent to Belgrave Academy. Unfortunately for the clan, Connor never arrived at Belgrave.
Enemies of clan Cirocco fell upon the young man and his escort. A day later, the Academy realized that something had happened, sent word to the Count, and armed men were sent to find and rescue Connor. The men found Connor’s guards torn apart, but no trace of the heir. Time passed and no group took responsibility for the young man’s disappearance, the family blamed the Academy, and relations with the crown became strained.
Chelsea took the loss of her brother especially hard, but had little time to mourn. Suddenly the heir, she had years of knowledge which she was now expected to memorize. Armed escorts shadowed her every step and every minute of the day was a monotonous schedule of grueling classes which she was unable to escape from.
In a grudging attempt to repair their relations with the crown and the Academy, Demetri agreed to send Chelsea to train upon her thirteenth birthday, and a large escort comprised of representatives of the Academy, House Cirocco, and the Crown, were sent to ensure her safe arrival. Belgrave’s locals were amazed by Chelsea’s entrance to the city, which had all the fanfare of a holiday parade.
