A hot tourist spot and an agricultural area known for its numerous lakes and waterfalls. Most importantly, they are the second biggest producer of blood oranges. It is an attractive area for both Fae and Merfolk.

CITY ACTIVITY

At this hour, Belbridge is relatively calm and quiet, with any people out enjoying nature as the foliage changes colors and the animals begin migrating as the cold comes in. The town is excited for the winter months if only for the blood orange hauls, which will offer a huge boost to their economy. The Merfolk populations are getting the most out of the scenery before the cold forces them to stay inside more.

"Table 22 is ready!"

In the town of Belbridge, there was a restaurant in the city center that seemed to be all the rage to both the various tourists that came through and the locals of the town. It was called the Warmbelly Kitchen, and seemed to offer various courses from all over not only Cervia, but the world at large. From ugali to paella, fresh pickles to meat pies, they serve dishes coming from the various homes of the people who work the restaurant. It was a bit of a hot mess, a wild mix of furniture and decorations, and on busy nights people might be waiting a minute for their meal as there was only 4 main employees. Even with all that, every plate of fresh, home grown, and delicious food is worth it, and it is even for a decent price. The cook of this little operation, Santiago Cirilo, was deep into their evening shift, the dinner rush from about an hour or so ago had finally began to die off, and was replaced with a calmer, more relaxed late night customers. A lot of people weren't here for a meal, but a drink from their resident brewer and bartender, Judah. Still, there were plenty of people still hungry, this Table 22 meal of a warm and hearty beef stew was going to get cold if no one was coming to pick it up soon.

"Alright, guess I am delivering this one myself." Without even missing a beat, Santi would strip off his black apron and similar colored plastic gloves, throwing it onto a hook on the walk and the garbage respectively before stepping around the slightly worn out kitchen. Like most of the building, the kitchen wasn't as good as it could, but Santi prided himself on keeping it clean even in the midst of the craziest of rushes. It would need a bit of clean tonight, but that could wait in a few hours once the customers were gone. Kamil and Tatiana were probably off helping other customer's out, so Santi never minded pitching in on the waiting on people, since from time to time he needed help in the kitchen to keep up with orders. His snakes, golden color and ending in brown heads, were loosely tied up to stay out of his face, yet not tight so they weren't hurt. The gorgon's outfit on the other hand was less professional, some old baseball jersey he picked up from a thrift store (having never even figured out Cervian baseball), a pair of light colored jeans, a small golden chain and a pair of no slip sneakers. It was hard to say what he did at the restaurant to someone who didn't know the odd group of owners, but he walked with such an air of ownership that no one stayed in his way for long.

Stepping out from behind the curtained doorway that separated kitchen from the dining area, Santi moved from table to table until he found the right one, setting the plate down with his most charming smile. "My apologies about that, Mister, we are looking for more help but for right now, food is going to get to you a little slower, why do you get a shot on me? Just tell the bartender that Santiago said it was okay for you to have one." Santiago's accent slipped out as he spoke, not yet use to "speaking Cervian" with its certain sound and slang, but he knew what to say to make people feel good about a bad thing. He made sure that the customer was doing okay with that deal before moving on.

Santiago was going to head back to the kitchen right away but was stopped by the sight of a long, green haired woman stepping into the door. She looked rather... refreshing for a lack of a better word, different in a way that really peeked the gorgon's interest. It was that or those clouded eyes that held him there for a moment it. Santi stared longer than he would admit before slipping away, needing to focus on work and not the fascinating woman waiting to be served. Making a small detour, he would climb the stairs to Judah's little bar, which had a few regulars and a smattering of tourists all itching for a strong drink. Moving his way behind the counter, he would get the Were's attention with a small peck to the side of his neck, ignoring the customers who watch the scene with a surprised smile. "Hey, I have an annoyed customer I offered a shot for how slow the food is coming. Also... you need anything? I only got one order, and its in the oven for another 3 minutes, so I can do something quick for you."

JUDAH
"Here you go, mate," Judah said as he set the bottle of 805 on the counter in front of Mark, one of their regular patrons. The man nodded his thanks before departing from the bar, settling down nearby with several other regular customers.

There was a chill nip in the air that suited Judah just fine. Hot weather had its perks but Judah had always been more of a cold-weather man, although the coolness was still several ticks away from cold. Dressed in a short-sleeved button-up and an apron, Judah was at home. Quite literally, in fact. Warmbelly Kitchen and the life Judah had surrounding it were far from where he imagined himself at his age — although he wasn't even sure where he imagined himself — but Judah had trouble imagining himself happier anywhere else.

Not that Warmbelly Kitchen was without issues — with only the four of them working there the cafe was sorely understaffed, which proved a problem on busy nights like this.

"Anything I can get for you?" He asked a newcomer who'd wandered over toward the bar.

"Yeah I'll take a gin and tonic," they said.

"Sure thing."

Judah pulled the glass from beneath the counter and moved toward the liquors on the back shelf. But before he could retrieve anything, his ears perked up at the approaching footsteps. Santi was there beside him, greeting Judah with a kiss on the neck before the werecanine even turned to face him. It sent a shiver down his arm. Despite the pleasant sensation, Judah scowled at his partner. Despite that, the faintest crinkle of a smile tugged at the right side of his lips. Judah quickly displaced it with a huff and a small step back.

It was the type of gesture he would've returned in private but he could feel pairs of customers' eyes upon them. Theirs wasn't the safest of relationships, despite the acceptance of their regular patrons. But it could be a bit much for the tourists.

"Yeah, I got it," he responded with confidence. A shot was a small price to placate a disgruntled customer. "Let me finish this," he added. Except he looked up to find the tourist was gone, a rather soured expression on their face as they disappeared down the stairs. Judah shrugged. He wasn't going to brood on it. "I'm good," he said with a smile.

"Busy down there?" He asked as he tucked the glass back under the counter.

CECILY

'You need to stop somewhere, you've been walking for hours now.' The bat attempted to sway his master to rest. He knew more than anyone how she could get when it came to accepting help and stopping things once she started. She'd been walking for hours now. Her feet had to be killing her because Nos had flown most of the way and his wings were beat.

'No I'm fine Nos. I'll rest when I get to the next sliver over. It'll be…more quiet.' Cecily huffed quietly as she trudged on through the city center.
'All I'm hearing are excuses. It's hot, you're tired and hungry! At least stop and get something to eat. Something around here sure does smell good…' He persuaded in the back of her mind and she sighed, rolling her eyes.

She couldn't stand when he was right. But the bat was the only thing she'd come across in her life with her best interests at heart. And that was nice. To have someone to rely on that wouldn't turn on you and/or try to kill you.

'Fine. But after we eat something we're back on the road again.' Cecily turned around, changing course for the next restaurant Nos directed her to because she definitely couldn't see one. Nosferatu was better than any walking stick she could buy or enchant.

'Warmbelly Kitchen huh?' Cecily pulled the door open before stepping into the establishment. 'Like I said, it smelled good!' The tiny bat sat on her ear, just out of sight behind her hair. The restaurant sounded extremely busy, which she took as a good sign; and it did smell absolutely devine. She honestly couldn't remember the last decent hot meal she had.

'Look! You've got a starer.' Nos commented on the golden snaked gorgon with his gaze fixated on Cecily. The blind girl couldn't help but let out a snicker. 'Ha-ha very funny.' She smiled as she waited for the host to be seated.

Santiago watched as the person, who obviously wasn't from the area, storm away in a huff after the small bit of affection that he showed to his lover. They could go get bent for all the sarpa cared, if they didn't like it, they could take their hateful attitude to somewhere else besides their kitchen. Santi wasn't about to stop expressing his love just because some moron thought he should. With a small huff of his own, Santi's smile would return as he got Judah's attention once more. "Eh... you know, so-so. We have good business, hard to keep up with when they all.. you know, enter at once. Feel like I am running around with my head cut off getting all the erm.. orders together." He would laugh, quickly pouring himself a half shot of one of their cheaper tequilas. "Just wish we didn't have to be so hectic, but dinner rush is slowing down... just have late night drinkers and hungry people to look after." Downing it back with a grin, he would give Judah one more kiss, this time on the cheek over the neck. He loved seeing that mix of a sneer and a smirk that always seemed to don the were's face whenever he did so. It usually meant he liked it, but was worried they would deal with more ignorant people like the jerk who had just left. "Got to get back down there... if food orders slow.. I will try to run up here to give you a hand before night is over, love." As quickly as the man had appeared, Santiago was back down the short flight of stairs and quickly back in the kitchen.

Pulling out the baked dish out of the oven, he would divy it up between a number of bowls, with plenty still for other orders. The smell was damn near intoxicating, and Santiago could feel the pride swell in his chest looking at the baked hake stew, something he grew up eating when his family could get their hands on the fish. Moving out to the main room with all those soup bowls on a large platter, handing it out to everyone who had been waiting patiently, even noticing that the green haired woman had yet to be seated anywhere. "Hmm... where are Tanya and Kamil?" They must of stepped out to grab some stuff needed for the service or something, or Santi had been so busy in the kitchen that he was just misplacing all of his lovers. It was no bother, after giving out orders, he would happily stride up towards the woman waiting. "Hola! Welcome to ehm.. Warmbelly Kitchen. I am Santi, let's get you a place to sit and well... get some food in you." He would laugh, grabbing a menu and turning back towards Cecily. "Do you prefer booth, chair, or couch? We have a little of everything here.. or you can sit at bar with Judah, he's amazing at figuring out what you like to drink."

"Oh, urm, thank you." Cecily could've jumped six feet into the air when the golden-snaked gorgon approached to seat her. Despite Nos already informing her of his upcoming presence, his cheeriness was something she wasn't prepared for nor used to. Then again, he was trying to sell her a good meal and possibly a drink or two.

'Oh God he's so…'

'So nice and hospitable.' The tiny bat interrupted her thoughts. 'Didn't your parents ever tell you if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all?'

Cecily almost let out a laugh and if not for her being in the company of a busy restaurant, she would have.

'My parents tried to use me as a sacrifice for imminent power.'

'Fair enough.'

The green-haired magi turned to the gorgon with a smile. "Uhm, I'll take a seat wherever you want to sit me. It smells really good in here!" Cecily smiled with a bit of smugness in her tone that was naturally meant for her familiar. 'See? I can be nice!' If no one else had been around she'd have stuck her tongue out at the bat. "I'll take a seat at the bar; and take you up on the offer of a drink too!"

Kamil

Kamil tossed his rag over his shoulder, damp and uncomfortably humid from the dish room. He carried a bus tub out to an empty table nearest him, taking the dirty dishes off the table and spraying it down to be cleaned. He smiled and nodded his head to customers, keeping a bit to himself as he hurried to keep up on tasks.

After dropping the tub of dishes off next to the dishwasher, he quickly washed his hands and picked up a few plates of food for a waiting table. He hurried over, gently placing the food in front of each customer. " Alright, do we need anything else for now?" He asked quietly, offering another polite smile.

- - -

Kamil dipped back out of the back room with his bus tub and slipped back behind Judah's bar to collect dirty cups and utensils. " How's it going over here?" He asked softly, offering Judah a playful smile. Business was good! Which was great, but hectic. He had to make sure to check in on everyone now and again.

For as many customers that Santiago has either cooked for or served in the Warmbelly Kitchen's short existence, Santiago had yet to meet someone who caught his appeal as quickly as this green haired woman. There was just something about her, some unnamed and unattainable quality that made her nearly pop out of the slowly dying crowd of the dinner rush. It had to be her eyes, the way they looked so bright despite the obvious injury that must have caused it. She must also be hungry, looking at her body, that pale color which looked so thin under her clothes. It left Santiago quiet for a moment, lost in the woman's appearance before her voice brought him back into the moment, unaware that she had been conversating with a familiar for most of that time.

"O-oh, thank you miss! I make most the food here, but I have help from a few of my partners here, making a little bit of comfort food from our various homelands. We are a ehm... group ran restaurant." He hated calling it a group, but Santiago knew not to just blurt it during the first meeting with someone. At the very least, get a person's money first before they realize that you are in a relationship with 3 others. "Let me get you a seat at the bar and bring you some soup, you will love it, I am sure." At that moment, he already knew he wasn't going to charge this woman a cent, her presence alone enough to pay the gorgon. If his other partners had a problem with it, they could take it out of his cut of the money this week. Speaking of his partners, the gorgon noticed Kamil slipping out into the backroom. So that was where he had been! Santiago had been just being stupid and forgot to check the sink room for his white haired partner. "Just ehm.. be careful, kind of a jumbled mess in here. We like the hectic look, but it bites us in the rear sometimes." Santiago would hold out an elbow for the woman, who he assumed to be blind, so that she could have some help getting around.

Regardless of if she took it or not, Santi would lead her up to the quieter bar, following quickly behind Kamil, and right to Judah. "Here you are, order with Judah here and I'll be right back with the stew and bread for you." He would flicker blue eyes towards the other two, a familiar look of "Hey, think this one needs some help" before he stepped back and headed towards the back. Santiago was nothing if not a bleeding heart for the outcasts of the world. That was where they all came from, and had managed to make it work for them and then some! Helping out others, even if it is for a meal or a night, was well worth whatever they had to give up for it. It would take Santiago a minute though, because as soon as he was in the kitchen, his attention got distracted by getting the rest of the dishes out, having had a couple of orders come in in that time. So the gorgon would be distracted, at least long enough for the others to meet this green haired magi.

JUDAH
Judah listened attentively as Santi shared the difficulties of the dinner rush. It was good that business was good, but for a small place, it was a lot sometimes. At his partner's use of an endearment, Judah huffed gently. But he said nothing. Instead, he offered a reassuring smile (which favoured the right side of his face). His voice, although altogether gruff, was full of affection when he spoke again.

"Glad it's calming down. Send 'em my way if you need." Not that everyone who came to order food was going to want a drink, but Judah did what he could to alleviate the burdens on his partners. Santi finished his second shot and Judah with practised ease quickly slipped the empty glass from the counter and tucked it into the tray of dirty dishes. And without further ado, Santi left to take care of their customers.

Judah continued to serve customers, making polite conversation with the guests. A regular, Addie, was particularly chatty. She went on about how she was excited to start college. The younger woman had ordered a daiquiri but barely touched it. She was a naturally bubbly girl with endless energy. Addie had just run off — seen a familiar face — when Kamil arrived to claim the tray of dirtied dishes.

"Goin' fine," Judah responded to his partner with a grin. "Busier down there, I'm sure." Judah barely had time to finish his sentence before Santi returned, this time escorting a pretty woman with a scar across her eye, a trait which immediately gave him a sense of kinship with her. But while he was only blind in one eye, her milky pupils suggested she might not be able to see the similarity.

"Greetings, I'm Judah — pleased to be of service, let me know if you need anything." He took on his customer service voice. "Sit anywhere," he said as he gestured broadly at the bar chairs before realising his error. "The chair to the right is the best of the lot," he added casually.

CECILY

'Even with your… less than cheery attitude, he still seems to enjoy your company.' Nosferatu mentally prodded at the young woman. Her familiar of all people knew how crotchety she could be, especially when it came to making new friends.

'Let him help you!' The tiny bat half hissed half whispered, and with a small roll of her eyes, she gently placed her hand on his arm so he could lead her to a seat.

Cecily nodded as Santi explained that he and his partners ran the restaurant. That was nice. For a moment she wished her family were close enough to have done something as homey as run a restaurant or store or something together. Then she remembered that they were not that kind of family and she was way better off without them.

Homeless or not.

"So I guess you could say it's a family-owned business then." She noted, a small smile creeping onto her face. "If the soup is even half as good as whatever I smell in here, I'm sure I'll be coming back for more in no time." She smiled.

It took everything in Nos not to praise his master. He knew it would only irritate her. But did have to commend her in some way.

'I forgot you had such exceptional conversational skills, Cee.'

'ExCEptIoNAl CoNVeSaTiONaL sKiLls CeE' the green-haired magi mocked in an attempt to revert the attention from herself.

'I'm being serious!'

Cecily mentally sighed. 'Thank you Nos. My parents might have been assholes but I'm only part asshole.' She gave a small shrug before sitting down in the chair Judah recommended with Nos' guidance.

"Nice meeting you." Cecily gave a small nod towards the bartender. His voice, while gruff, was still warm and welcoming. "If you have a sweet beer or nice cider I'll take one of those, otherwise, just make it a mango martini." She smiled, looking around for a moment before asking, "So, how's business been lately?"
