Ethina, a world filled with many unusual creatures with equally unusual powers. This world is ruled and worshiped by two immortal beasts. The Divine Brutum and the Umbra Brutum. These two tribes have been at peace for thousands of years, despite neither side showing love between each other. But times are now changing, Helios, alpha of the Divine Brutum wishes rid of the balance between light and dark. Wanting all the lands and the seas to be bathed in divine light, to be with, what he sees as, goodness. Now there is a rift between the Divine Tribe and the Umbra Tribe, as well as the mortal creatures who dwell on Ethina. Will there ever be peace and balance again?

Current Time of Ethina: Grander Forest, Gelum Forest = Midday
    Harena Desert = Night

Brutum: Brutums are creatures who look to be hybrids of mundane animals or plants with magical powers.

Divine Brutum: A god-like species of creatures who have the power of light along with most other powers, with the exception of dark magic. These Brutums are worshiped by some Terreus Brutum.

Umbra Brutum: Divine Brutums counterpart. This species has the power of darkness with most other powers, with the exception of light magic. These Brutums are worshiped by some Terreus Brutum.

Terreus Brutum: Brutums who are born with one (and only one) particular magical skill, unlike the Divine and Umbra Brutums, they are not immortal. They can, however become immortal after death. (They can either become a Divine or Brutum)

Cursed Brutum: A Brutum offspring with one parent being a Divine Brutum and other parent being Umbra Brutum. They are given the powers of light and dark, but no other powers.

Purgatoras: Brutum offspring with one parent being one of the two immortal Brutum and the other being a Terreus Brutum.

Portals: Portals are gateways between realms. They appear at random in random places and can be rather hard to find. Divine and Umbra Brutums, do not need portals to travel from realm to realm, since they already have the power to do this.

Holy Realm: The realm above the world Ethina, this is where the Divine Tribe and any Divine Brutum live. It is made up of light with rainbow tinted trees and grass during the day, and during the night it becomes a place full of stars and galaxies.

Caligo Realm: The realm below Ethina. A black, misty forest that never truly sees the sun. The nights are dark and ominous while the “mornings” are not truly mornings at all, but a still, grey dawn.

Helios//The Holy Realm

A "wolf" sat perched atop of a steep cliff, long colorful grass hung and swayed lazily from its edge, the rocky base was made of translucent , color stained crystals that shined under the sun's light. The large "wolf" stared at the world below, watching over two large, masses of land, one covered in snow the other in greenery and treetops. He would give his coat, which was as white as the clouds that floated beneath the cliff, a shake before giving a great huff. Sweeping his long tail across the ground and over the cliff, allowing it to sway along with the overlapping grass. Helios' silvery eyes turned blank as he lost himself in thought. "Pitiful mortals." he spoke lowly to himself. "Soon the world will be clean, pure and filled with light."

Adontus//Grander Forest

Adontus trotted among the trees, his hooves and paws leaving prints in their wake. He had spent most of his day causing a bit of mischief, from tricking a couple of brutum cubs to eating a spicy fruit, to fooling a rather large Terreus Brutum to losing his prey. The brute was too stupid to realize he was being duped till it was too late, the look on his face burned an image in Adontus and made him laugh with pure glee. Now that he had his fun, for the time being, the horned creature had set his path towards a small shrine. He had discovered it a few days ago and had approached it twice, day and night, ever since. The shrine was dedicated to his gods, the immortal Umbras, beasts of dark magic, shadows and much more. He prayed to them or offered them gifts, in hopes that his faithfulness will one day reward him int he afterlife, reborn as an Umbra Brutum and live among the gods in the underworld known as Caligo. Upon approaching the small shrine, which was only a dead tree with various offerings placed at its roots, the young Terreus Brutum bowed his head and bent one leg as he began his silent prayer.

Lentia // Grander Forest

Lentia let out a soft yawn, stretching herself out as she woke from her nap. Her glowing eyes watching the large, green trees sway with the gentle wind. She pulled herself from her bed in the trees, letting out her unique howl to tell her animal friends she had finally awakened. "What shall we do today?" She asked herself with a large smile. She placed her hands on her tiny hips, "We shall search for a playmate!" She exclaimed happily to herself. She usually only traveled by tree, she was very light so she never worried about breaking the branches. There was that one great fall... But, she never liked talking about it. Sometimes the trees were close enough to where she could simply walk over to the next tree, but she loved jumping from tree to tree. "Now... Where should we go?" She asks playfully. She twists her face, thinking critically, "Let us travel this way!" She yelled, randomly traveling among the branches, her movement not making a sound. She saw a few Terreus Brutum, but they always chased her away or ran away. She continued in her travel, but concluded that today would be boring and lonely like every other day.

Adontus//Grander Forest

The deer-like brutum abruptly lifted his head, ears perked and alert upon hearing an usual howl that echoed through the trees. He would ask silently to the Umbra gods for forgiveness as his prayer was interrupted. "Perhaps an offering can appease them." he spoke to no one but himself. Yes, an offering sounded nice, it has been awhile since he had offered a gift to his gods. The claws and hooves of the Terreus Brutum's feet began to a glow a luminous blue, the tips of his horns doing the same, with sky colored sparks crackling around his legs as readied himself to sprint. Within mere seconds he was off, zipping past trees in a blur, startling a few bird and mice-like brutums from their nests. He came a halt as he stood before a bush with vibrant red fruits. He knew these fruits well, they spice, not too many brutum could handle the taste, which made it a decent gift to his gods since it's more than unlikely some pesky scavenger would come by to devour them. Carefully, he used his sharp teeth to gnaw at the bitter stem of the fruit to set it free. That's when, from the corner of his eye, he spotted a shadow moving among the tree tops. Adontus froze and whirled his head around to see, in case if it were an attack. More than once has he been confronted by previous "victims" of his pranks that didn't find his jokes all too funny.

Varachni // Grander Forest
In another part of the forest, high in the trees, branches rustles and cracked. A flash of golden fur, the scent of blood and venom. The beastly brutum had awaken. The sudden silence that accompanied his awakening was normal, nothing wanted to be the first creature he set his hungry gaze upon.

Dropping from the branches he had a few thoughts as the air rushed through his fur, Ahh, what a beautiful morning. Oh it's midday... Well, whatever. I was being sarcastic anyway. With a cracking sound he vanished from the air, appearing on the ground. He stalked forward, stepping gingerly, the hunt was on.

Helios//The Holy Realm
Shaking his thick, glowing, coat the Divine Brutum turned his form away from the mortal world below. His tail swayed across the rainbow grass with grace as he leisurely made his way through the colorful paradise of his home. Helios mind seemed to never shut off nowadays, ever since he had declared technical war on the Umbras. Ridiculous creatures of the dark, they do not know what is good for Ethina or either of the immortal realms, but he did. If only they could see what he envisioned. Upon his wandering, the wolf-like brutum came across a small puddle of water. It was as still as stone and clear like the skies of the Holy Realm. Within the waters of this heavenly realm, one can see the mortal realm of Ethina. As he peered into the puddle, Helios took notice of a large brutum that had the form of a spider and the fur pattern of a tiger. It was the most unsightliest creature he's ever seen, with it's long legs and many eyes. Helios didn't recognize the brutum, it was certainly not one of his devoted worshipers, thank the heavens. The more he stared, the more disgusted he felt, a feeling of which he mostly had when in the presence of an Umbra. He wondered what brutums came together to create such a thing, the mere thought alone made his muzzle wrinkle and curl upwards.

Varachni//Grander Forest
The large predator crept through the forest, unaware of the observer. His soft fur blending into the surroundings, he walked into the wind. He could pick up the scent of other creatures on the wind, his sense sharpened by his mixed heritage. He could smell a prey animal, nearby. He swiveled his body, listening, to the sound of leaves tearing. He stalked forward, pinpointing the location of his target. With a leap into the air he pounced into the brush ahead of himself, using his size to throw the prey. A swift bite, the crunch of bone in his mandibles, and he had it paralyzed. Using his legs he manually wrapped the poor creature in his webbing. It would serve him as food for a few days in this form. He could change and make it last longer if he wanted, but that is a problem for the future.

He strung the package up in a tree, and ran his tongue across his bloody fangs. He savoured the taste of the blood, his venom mingling with it. The corners of his monstrous mouth pulled up in a smile as he looked to the sky. I wonder what a Divine Brutum tastes like.

Helios//The Holy Realm

Helios couldn't pry his pale eyes away from the spider-like brutum as it mercilessly hunted and killed its prey. The Divine Brutum didn't have a fear of spider's, but there was something about this one, perhaps it was because it was so large, is why it sent a shiver down his spine. His stomach flipped as the many eyes of the brutum suddenly were upon him. Though Helios knew better and the creature was merely looking to the sky, it was still unnerving to see. He was tempted to send a gust of wind down to Ethina were the creature lay and blow it away into the Neptunia Sea.

Mastema//Caligo Realm

Mastema jerked awake after a restless slumber, barely managing to stay perched on the high branch of the tree he'd chosen to rest on. He hadn't meant to doze off but sleep was something he'd never welcomed, always trying his hardest to keep the Sandman at bay for as long as he could. The nightmares were getting worse, bloodcurdling screams and liquid crimson flooding his mind every time he closed his eyes. It was one such nightmare that had caused the young Cursed Brutum to awaken so suddenly. Looking up at the gray sky filled with clouds, there was no telling what time it was, as the Caligo Realm never got any lighter than the twilight hour. Sighing heavily, he turned his neck until he heard and felt a satisfying 'pop', repeated this motion in the opposite direction, then moved into a crouching position on the branch he was perched on before hopping off. Dropping ten feet to the ground below, Mastema landed lightly on the balls of his feet, making no sound whatsoever. As his stomach rumbled softly, he decided he should venture out in search of sustenance. He swiftly morphed into a dark grey, vaporous mass, shadow form being his favorite way to travel, and headed out.

Varachni//Grander Forest
Varachni turned from the sky and crouched. Now that he had food for later taken care of he could roam freely. He strode between the trees proudly, displaying his grand pelt and wild eyes for all the world to see. He was a little disappointed, as he couldn't see anybody to admire him. Well, I'll come across someone eventually... If I leave a web up for them to run into, he thought to himself. With a twisted expression, which might be taken for a smile, he started spinning thread and weaving it between trees. Thin enough to not be easily detectable, but sturdy enough to resist the impact of insects and small creatures. His older webs had not alerted him to any nearby Brutum other than his prey.
Archeron//Caligo Realm
Settled next to a foggy lake, that could better be described as a foggy pond, Archeron was admiring his reflection in the surface. Just below the water was one of his favorite races. He wasn't sure what exactly they were classified as, but they had the appearance of a starry sky painted onto koi. They appeared in bodies of water in all the realms, and seemed to be able to travel between the bodies freely. They probably exist on another plane of existence. He has not met any Brutum like them, nor any Brutum that has claimed to be able to catch them. They swim freely between realms, traveling great distances instantly, they must exist only in water. Or they are an apparition, created by some other creature. Such beauty rivals my own, though to see the same, one need only look up at the night sky.

He stood up and lapped at the water, disturbing the fish and causing them to swim away from him. Soon the pond was empty, the koi elsewhere.

Mastema // Caligo Realm

As Mastema traveled along, his shadowy form swirling in the fog, he stopped suddenly; a presence was near. Specifically, an Umbra. Immediately, Mastema drifted upwards toward the treetops, aiming to remove himself from the sight of whoever it was that he sensed down below. When he was first banished to the Caligo Realm, it did not take very long for him to realize that the Umbra Brutum viewed him just as the Divine had: a wretched outsider. With no place left to go, however, he'd learned to hide and avoid all contact with any other Brutum to save himself from being destroyed.

From his vantage point in the treetops, certain that no beast would be able to detect him, Mastema changed back into his humanoid form in order to easier search the ground for the Umbra he had sensed. It was dangerous, he knew; he resembled a Divine Brutum more as a humanoid. That was the trouble with being a Cursed Brutum. Possessing genes and traits from both Divine and Umbra Brutum, one was shunned by both races just for existing. If Mastema was seen he'd be attacked on sight for sure. However, it was easier to focus in this form, so he had to take the risk.

Spying a small lake some yards to the north, he noticed a tiger-like Umbra at the edge peering into the water as though observing something just under the surface that Mastema was too far away to see. What are you looking at, Umbra? he wondered to himself.
