This is a world where Flora and Fauna run rampant, large and strong. This is a world where humans and their allies live in large, fortress-like cities - walled from the dangers of the outside. This is a world where humans known as hunters venture out into the wilds to gather resources and slay the large creatures which cause problems. This is a world where your standard longsword is nothing more than a toothpick, and your weapon tends to be as tall as you are. This is a world where humans are not in control, but fight just like everything else.

However, in this world there is another calling. A strange one, not truly understood but very much respected. The Beast Tamer. Every generation, a number of younglings from the fortresses feel a call to leave into the wilds. This call grows as they do until it becomes too much, and they slip away in the dead of night to leave into the deadly wilds. However, the wilds do not devour them. They wander, following the call until they reach an old fortress, forgotten and overgrown. There the young ones meet one another, and also meet the master. They are trained for years in the ways of the greatest hunters, find the weapon that calls to them, and learn to be a champion of the people.

The last thing they learn, is how to raise and tame their beast. Invariably, a trainee will come across a baby monster in its path that will follow them no matter what. This is known as their companion, and will grow alongside the trainee. They learn to fight together, learn to live together, and they are connected by an bond unbreakable even by death. This is what a Beast Tamer is known for. After their training, each generation of tamers is a team, travelling between fortresses to help humanity survive.

And Beast Tamers are needed now more than ever. They have been found murdered in the wilds, by human hands. Systematically the population of tamers has been destroyed, and there are few left. Ancient portents speak of a great evil, preceded by the loss of humanity's greatest champions. There is no doubt in scholar's minds that this evil is on its way.. and the fate of humanity is no longer stable...

-------------

The players in this RP will play new tamers, in one of two starting scenarios. Either arriving at the fortress with their companion, and then a few training scenes, or skipping all of that to the start where they are fully trained with juvenile companions, and ready to leave. From there they will travel, slay troublesome monsters, pursue missions, and unravel the coming darkness.

  • Humans are the most common sight in most regions. They are noted for their spirit, passion, and creativity. They have little magical power by birth, but as a testament to the tenacity of humans they have developed a way of teaching that allows a human to use the magical power latent in the air. They are varied and many, but fight fierce alongside their allies to live in this world.

  • Elves are lanky beings with pointed ears, one of the most numerous allies in the world. They are noted for their calmness, their intelligence, and their craftsmanship. Unlike humans, they have a wellspring of magical power inside them. While this allows them to more readily use magical abilities, it also means that they more quickly run out of magic, as they are unable to tap into natural magic like the humans can.

------------------------------------------
The RP shall be beginning with the tamers as young teens, finding their beasts and the master's fortress. After that, however, we shall quickly proceed to the meat of the RP - Young Adult tamers and their adolescent companions leaving to travel the world.

Name: Alori Yashi
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Homefortress: Liquoi
The Peaks of Liquoi is the mountain range in the center of the continent, culminating in the Throat of the World which is the largest peak of them all. The area surrounding the mountains is sub alpine forest, and the higher you go, the closer to alpine, and then beyond that you will reach the snow line. The mountains are inundated with caves and ore, making this a rich land for ore-based crafting.

The Fortress City of Liquoi is built just below the alpine tundra, and in the center of naturally-carved crossroads. If you are trying to pass through the mountains, chances are you will find your way to Velheim. Many great craftsman have made their names starting here, and the warriors from here are resistant to cold given the climate they grow up in.

Fighting Style: Faster than one would expect with his weapon. Charges his blade with standard attacks, storing the charge in his shield until the time is right to go for a huge hit with the axe form of his weapon.

History: Alori was born to a prestigious family of mages in the peaks of Liquoi, but has never shown an aptitude for magic. While pushed into lessons, he never made much progress and instead often wandered off to watch the training warriors and craftsmen. He was always enamored with them, and even began to woo a young craftswoman names Yamoi. It wasn't too long until he began to hear the call and - worried - he shared this news with Yamoi. Knowing that his path was dangerous, he was ready to break it off to keep from hurting her. Instead, he was made to promise to seek her out when he would return to Liquoi. That she would create the best weapon she ever made for him.

Next he told were his parents. He expected them to be angry, but instead they seemed to puzzle out that perhaps that was the reason he hadn't been able to focus on magic. Whether they were correct or not, they gave him their goodbyes, not knowing when he would leave. And indeed, that very night the call came too strong to resist, and the young man slipped out into the wilds, searching out his destiny.

CHARACTER SHEET
Name: Asenath "Sena" Eulala
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Race: Undine Spiritblooded
Homefortress: Tepeah, Nenatra
Nenatra is a small island just off the southern coast of the continent, often surrounded by storms and sparsely populated. Tepeah is its main fortress city, located very close to the coast, managing to survive the frequent hurricanes by its storm wall, made of a combination of mud, brick, and magic, that the citizens are constantly repairing to ensure its integrity does not weaken. This wall also protects them The island's population is made up primarily of former sailors who have been shipwrecked and decided to stay, as the island is difficult to reach. Most of Nenatra is undeveloped, full of swamps and tropical forests, and surrounded by beach that most of the inhabitants dare not explore.

Tepeah's commerce comes from their rich salt mines, as well as their ships. Tepeah is home to the best ship-builders, and the boats built in Tepeah are almost guaranteed to make it through the storms that frequent their coasts.

Appearance:
gOx12wk.jpg

Weapon Type: Dual Khopesh Blades
7hdaU8q.jpg

Armor Style: Lightweight and minimal. No metal, only leather or other magic-enhanced material.
BC2inujm.jpg

Magic Style: As an Undine, she has power over water. Contrary to her fighting style, she favours big, wild manifestations of her magic, and it wouldn't be inaccurate to say she lacks control.
Fighting Style: Asenath is a close-range fighter, using stamina, speed, and precision rather than raw strength to rain down attacks on her enemies. She uses the dual blades as both offense and defense, having mastered the art of landing blows around shields using the blades' curves and disarming enemy swordfighters when they attempt to land a stab or slice.

History:
Few Beast Tamers come out of Nenatra, perhaps due to its location off the continent, though there are rare beast sightings in the tropical forests and off the coasts. Asenath grew up with beasts and tamers on the outskirts of her awareness, protected by the wall. Her father was a shipwright and her mother a fisherman, and they had hoped, as their first born, that Asenath would follow in her father's footsteps. However, Sena lacked the kind of patience for design and the strength for carpentry, beguiled by her mother's early morning treks to the beaches to fish, and so she learned how to defend herself and began to accompany her mother.

Her parents knew she was Spiritblooded, but both lacked any known magic, so she was sent to Tepeah's shamans to train when she was a young teenager. Mainly, her parents were getting tired of mopping up the results of her stress or anger, as were her three younger siblings. But the shamans had only marginal success in teaching her control, and instead Sena learned to contain it.

It was not long after that she began to hear the call. At first, Sena didn't realize what it was that drew her to the beaches every night, filled with restless energy, pacing along the shoreline. One night, on the beach, she gave in to her compulsion to wade out into the water, and she saw the shadow of a beast below the surface. Fear propelled her back onto land, but Sena was struck with a realization of what was happening. The next night, while her family was asleep, she gathered supplies and stole one of her father's small boats, heading for the continent.

Quick question, do Beastborne have magic?
They have magic similar to humans - that is, they need to learn how to use the magic energy in the air, where elves and spiritblooded have inner wellsprings. Their magic is also usually somewhat influenced by the type of beast they emulate. If that makes sense.

So, what would be an example of Beastborne magic?
Maybe stuff to make your related senses stronger, or direct attack magic/enhancement spells.

Got it, thank you!

@fish-writer @Reshy134 and all the others reading this thread:

I'm Starting to wonder if I should have kept there being no magic. Too late to change, but either way I should make it clear that magic runs out really quickly no matter what style of casting you use. That is, weapon and beast-based fighting is the front and center, with magic more as a supportive role. Granted, that support can be very powerful, be it as a damage spell or some enhancement spells.

At least, that's how I see it working

Name: Meloli Colshalon
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Race: Beastborne
Homefortress: Felastri
Felastri is a land encased in a dense forest. Trees hundreds of feet high make up the vast majority of the forest, with the land underneath filled with viscous plant life, predator nests, and some fairly harmless creatures trying to survive at the bottom of the food chain. The people of Felastri live in fortresses suspended in the trees. Their city is flanked by giant crossbow turrets, ready to defend against monsters such as the Sheirgon, the Heilgon, and the tree-scaling Sundri. Their food comes from setting traps attached to long ropes with the intent of capturing some of the smaller creatures below. There are also larger cages for the elves themselves to step into and by lowered down to the surface to steal the massive fruits of some of the big, dangerous plants.
Appearance:

along with her horns she has a long, fur covered tail with a tufted tip. It's prehensile, and good at grabbing.
Weapon Type:

Armor Style:

Magic Style: Uses air magic to push herself across the air and act as thrust so she can do maneuvers not physically possible, such as running up large walls and jumping 30 feet. She also uses this magic to subtly manipulate her weapon, but is not powerful enough to use wind as a direct weapon.
Fighting Style: Meloli's fighting style consists of making small strikes then quickly jumping away, targeting weak spots and cutting away until the enemy collapses. She also quite likes incorporating Corimy into her attacks, using her chain to trap the enemy while he makes the killing blow.

History: Meloli was a Beastborne born to elvish parents, explaining her pointed ears and otherwise elvish appearance. Both her parents were elves, so her form came as a surprise to her. Her horns had been mere bumps on the sides of her head when she came out, and her mother would joke saying they tickled. Her Beastborne adaptations made her surprisingly adept at leaping from tree to tree, climbing fast, swinging, jumping and traveling with more ease and grace than even the other elves. She didn't know this was because of her air-based magic for many years of her life.

Her talents gave her a job of navigating the trees and picking the nuts and fruits that were inedible for elves, but prime bait for the creatures below. Her chained blades were originally given to her not to fight, but to latch onto the trees and swing from one to another. They also gave her help in quickly escaping the flying monsters around Felastri.

Because of her job, she quickly made friends with the trap-layers of her city. One day, while joking around with one, she was accidentally pushed into one of the traps and was sent down to the surface. Her initial scream was hushed as she found herself in the murky dim lighting, knowing that she shouldn't draw attention to herself. But something did pay attention to her. After a minute that felt like an eternity a pale creature crawled up to her with stubby legs and wide wings. The wings were still too small to fly, and the red that would come out in adulthood wasn't yet present, but Meloli recognized it as a baby Sheirgon. It crawled up and jumped onto her lap, splitting its outer head casing to show its blue face and gave a little roar. At its size, though, it was simply cute.

She and the Sheirgon infant were then abruptly pulled up. When it was discovered what had wandered into the trap with her, the citizens quickly set about getting their defenses ready. Sheirgon babies had found their way into the traps before, and the mothers always flew up to reclaim their babies. Meloli was expected to toss the creature over the edge back into the forest to try and throw off the mother's hunt, but...she couldn't. The little monster was oddly affectionate. It pawed at her, its red eyes were big and oddly endearing. Instead she opted to hide the creature.

But the mother never came. It was unclear why, but it soon did become clear that Meloli was the Sheirgon's new mother, at least in its eyes. For a time she ignored the call, content to be with her Corimy (as she'd named it) in her city peacefully. But Corimy nudged her in that direction almost every day, until finally he was big enough for his nudges to knock her on her feet. She finally took the hint and together she and Corimy packed a satchel and set out in the direction of the call.

Name: Arazorwyn Ellede (Ara)

Age: 22

Gender: Male

Race: Elf

Homefortress: Gaeleath, Ehrendil

Gaeleath is a spiritual and calming town that can be found deep and far from Ehrendil, one of the largest regions known to all of the different races and is sought out by everyone in need of inner peace. To get to Gaeleath, one must travel through suffocating caves and twisting caverns before arriving to a lush environment, fed by the large waterfall that is rumored to hold magic of its own. Further along, hidden by a wall of trees, the city itself will be revealed, much larger than one would expect. Magical creatures of all sizes roam the land and the entire area is surrounded by the mountain range, leaving the entrance to be the only exit. This city is a place of calamity, thus being a place for people to find peace within themselves while also seeing the plains and vegetation that work together in harmony. However, to the cities outside of Gaeleath, it is only but a story to dreamers as the path to finding it is rather difficult. However, it isn't impossible and the journey is one that everyone takes with them if they choose to leave.

Magic Style: Light use of magic, if any at all. He saves up most of his magic power to use all at once if he is in a dire situation, but mostly makes use of his creature and scythe.

Fighting Style: Strong scythe and hand-to-hand combat; martial arts.

History:
Growing up in Gaeleath, Arazorwyn had no idea that the city he grew up in was a place of such serenity to people outside of it. His parents eventually told him when he was old enough to understand, and after his constant questioning of why he kept seeing men and women with animal characteristics or with a lack of pointed ears continuing to visit and join them. After many years of pleading to the town elder, he was given permission to join the merchants on a quick journey through Ehrendil, as he was too young to be introduced to possible dangers before. During the few months he was gone, he was introduced to a larger population of man that he had never seen before. People with canines or tails, and people that looked like him, but with rounded ears and much more variety of skin tones than his own kind. Upon arriving back at Gaeleath, he brought up a strange folk tale he had heard from one of the merchants about Beast Tamers with the elder and was told that he was to embark on a quest. A quest that will bring him closer to others and his magic. That day, he also met his creature who he was linked to the moment he saw it... and soon, his journey began.

Yeah, sure.

I shall work on a starting post by tomorrow. You all want to start as kids and have some skipping scenes? Or just start at the end of training, as a team?

Torn. Want baby monster, but also want to get on with the adventure.

@fish-writer @Annyeong Bunny - I realized I forgot to tag you guys. Do you all want to start as kids and have some skipping scenes? Or just start at the end of training, as a team?

Ahhh, I think we should have our introductions include a bit of their beginning training and beast stuff before skipping ahead to present time in the same post? I hope that makes sense lmao!
