Hi there! My site is in the process of a major rework which means that we are keen for writers to join us and provide ideas to guide our game in an exciting new direction! We are already well-established, but this is the perfect opportunity to make meaningful inputs in a member-led environment to make your roleplaying dreams a reality.
Bearbones is a divisive and welcoming community open to all types of roleplay. Whilst we cater to all types of genres on the site, we cherish our main game, The New World! It is a unique post-apocalyptic roleplay where humankind must do what it takes to innovate and survive after the collapse of global electrical grids. The site was established in 2017 and there is a close-knit but welcoming group of supportive and friendly members dedicated to making the site a safe and gratifying space to write in. Additionally, we are all active out of character and frequently talk and develop our characters together, post in-game related content such as songs, aesthetics and/or memes that have inspired us, and support each other both on the forum itself and on our Discord servers!
➤ BASICS. There is no pressure to write! We don't believe in word counts nor post matching, and encourage members to write what they feel like writing, when they feel like writing. We don't carry out activity checks (unless you lead a group, but these checks are more like friendly check-ins to see how you are doing and whether you need any support). Also, you don't need to apply beforehand. You can throw an oc into the game and develop them along the way if it suits you, or create extensive character notes beforehand; the ball is in your court! Our members tend to range from intermediate & advanced but we support all levels of writing as we are all committed to improving our writing and helping others on that same journey.
➤ DISCORD. We are unique in the way we have set up three main servers for organisation purposes. As our main game revolves around the lives of these two groups, they with their own servers! These servers include out of character chats, plotting channels and also character channels so that newcomers can get to know current active characters in the group. We also have a main Bearbones server so that members from different groups are still able to chat to one another. Links to different group servers are organised clearly in the main Bearbones server and on the site in each group's respective OOC sub-board. The servers are all optional as you will be able to find everything on the site as well, but we enjoy the convenience of Discord for casual chatter!
➤ LORE. We have expansive lore which is ever-developing. These developments are member-led and supported by the staff team to help make ideas a reality. We have expansive territories and groups with their own backstories and political relationships between neighbouring groups, and there are opportunities to establish your own group if you feel especially inspired by a concept you may have. We have multiple guides made by staff and by members to help put different actions in a post-apocalyptic world into context to encourage realism in the game.
➤ CHARACTERS. We believe in plot-driven character development where different events will shape your character over time. Plotting and shipping is an optional feature for character development, and we tend to enjoy fleshing out relations and in-character opinions in our writing! 99.9% of open threads were not plotted out beforehand, and we tend to ❛ go with the flow ❜ in our writing, so to speak! Also, we love exposing the dark and gritty side of our characters, and the game is great in giving us the freedom to really challenge our characters in such a perilous environment. We don't require face claims but nearly all of our active characters have real human face claims.
➤ SITE. Our site is very clean and easy-to-read, using a neutral palette to allow for ease of viewing, plus an additional dark theme is available for those who may prefer it! Our site is organised thoroughly with board descriptions to make it easier to navigate through the site. Furthermore, our site is completely mobile friendly. Whilst our members have been helpful enough as to provide pre-made post templates, they are an optional feature and members are not required to write using one.
➤ MEMBER BASE. Whilst our site is rated PG-13 in order to safeguard any younger members, the majority of our member base are 18+. We do not put stress on members to post frequently, instead encouraging members with prompts and ideas to help inspire muse.
