marie-anne is nothing short of zestful; full of energy and cheeriness that you would encounter from a child. she too, is notable as the sunshine of a dreary day, with a smile that could brighten up the bleakest of times. most of her ebullience is due to her carefree and pleasant childhood that she experienced for most of her life.

although she possesses great optimism and amiability, marie-anne is not very bright intelligence-wise. of course, she is able to add two and two together and other simple sums, however anything intricate and or difficult will undoubtedly perplex her. marie-anne does not take her responsibilities very seriously, often abandoning tasks before completion.

buoyant & effusive
sincerity is marie-anne's uppermost priority. she can never bring herself to tell a lie, even the tiniest and whitest of lies aggravate her, and the chances of her forgiving you for doing so are very slim. optimism is also a trait of hers. every cloud has a silver lining in her world. marie-anne is rarely seen with a frown upon her lips, being the happy-go-lucky girl she is.

hand a box of paints and a paintbrush to marie-anne, and she can create a stunning masterpiece. she is what some might describe as a perfectionist. marie-anne pays great observation to detail whenever she is in a proper state of mind. as she works as a barista, she devotes her creativity into the craft of coffee art, by embellishing the drink with patterns and designs.

childhood
marie-anne lived a content childhood. although her parents were not wealthy, marie-anne considered themselves as so. they lived in manchester, a city in england, and they remained there until the birth of her second sister, katherine. she occupied most of her free time outside, wandering around the little meadow behind their abode. she would scavenge for exquisite blooms and other ornamental flora that were scattered around the lush green fields to adorn their dining quarters.

adolescence
the girl bloomed into a radiant blossom, similar to the botany from her childhood. the marshals household was blessed with a new addition when anne-marie attained the age of nine, katherine. marie-anne welcomed her new sibling with open arms. the two adored each other dearly, and hardly ever got into arguments or any negative activities, in fact, sibling rivalry was non-existent when it came to her and katherine. they did have their fair share of feuds and such from time to time, however the siblings would promptly consider a compromise and return to their regular terms.

present
currently, marie-anne lives in gold dale horizons, and lives a middle class life with her family, and is also single. the girl is also a college student and is working her way to a masters degree in fine arts. marie-anne allocates her free time engaging in activities revolved mostly around art and crafts, with oil and water color painting her preferred painting media. the nineteen year old sells her paintings and works as a barista for a living, and mainly expends her earnings on art supplies and crafts. from time to time, marie-anne would pay a visit to the homeless lower class and give what scarcely she is able to spare.

the mother of the marshals household. margaret is not what you might describe as outgoing, and usually keeps to herself around anyone but her family. she is lovely when you get to know her, though.

margaret spends most of her time in the comfort of her home in gold dale horizons. she is rarely seen out, with the exception of purchasing groceries and other items.

the father of the marshals household. andrew has an awful bad temper, and can never tolerate nonsense or anything that irritates him for that matter. he is quite protective of his two daughters, and dislikes anyone who treats them appallingly.

the man works at a nightclub during the weekdays, and as a waiter during the weekends. he can hardly ever spend time with his family, however takes a day off or two every month or so in order to do so.

the youngest of the marshals household. katherine, a inquisitive girl with a mind of her own, like any other child, she longs for attention and affection. lucky for her, katherine was born into a family that would shower love onto her every single day.

katherine is a student at an elementary school, and is quite a studious girl. she devotes most of her time to reading and studying. the child is a gifted dancer, and is currently being taught tap dancing along with ballet.

Prologue​

Sonya and Ruby were born in Bangladesh, to a mother who was sick and tired of her country. Bhani Sikdar was disgusted with the discrimination that she experienced when all she wanted was to provide a good home for her and her daughters. Her husband was another matter. Bhani's marriage to him had been arranged and no one had thought to really get to know her husband. The man was a deadbeat who treated Bhani like a baby making machine and not a person. Like most men in impoverished countries, having a son was a huge deal and the fact that his first two children were twin girls pissed him off. He was cold and unfeeling towards his daughters and constantly came after Bhani with superstitious 'treatments' to ensure the baby that she was carrying would become a boy. His harassment worked in one way, and he got a boy, but by that time Bhani had finally decided to put her foot down, in the sense that she was planning to run away to America.

Journey to America
The journey was hard, and a lot of sacrifices had to be made. Bhani had to leave her 18 month old son with his father and it broke her heart. She knew that the man would take care of her son, but she felt terribly guilty for only being able to bring the three year old twins, Sonya and Ruby. During the journey, Bhani met a middle aged reporter named Bryant King, who became smitten with the runaway single mother. He admired her strength and her fierce willingness to protect her daughters. He offered her a new way of living and she accepted, and became his wife.

Bhani's New Husband
Bryant treated Sonya and Ruby like his own daughters, as it was revealed later on that he couldn't have any himself. He called the girls his princesses and his wife, his queen. He constantly showered his family with praise and did his best to get them the things that they wanted. He wasn't a poor man, as he came from an upper class family, but he had chosen to become a reporter so he fell into middle class life. If not for Bhani choosing to get her GED and go to college, they would have ended up lower class, but Bhani was smart and got a nursing degree.

All Good Things Must End
Unfortunately, thirteen years after their family united, Bryant King passed away from after a malignant tumor was found in his brain and he was unable to pay for treatment. Bryant left behind a life insurance policy that would insure middle class life for his wife and daughter's but the remaining King's were devastated by the loss. Bhani was hurt the most and the second loss of someone important in her life hit her hard and changed her for good. And so began the tyranny of Bhani King.

Despite her lack of formal full time occupation, Ruby has always been her mother's favorite. It was painfully obvious during high school when Bhani always attended Ruby's cheerleading competitions and Junior Modeling catwalks, but always found an excuse to miss Sonya's mathlete events and model UN debates.

It seemed to have started right after Bryant died and Sonya started eating her feelings. Ruby dealt with the grief by joining the track team and perfecting her headshots, and Bhani praised her for that. Ruby loved the attention and approval from her mother, but she never bullied her sister as a result. Ruby always tried to give her sister pointers and tried to hide the snacks from her, but Sonya always took it negatively so their relationship started deteriorating in high school and kept going.

After high school, Ruby didn't go to college which initially enraged her mother, but when she explained to the woman that she wanted to focus on her future modeling career, Bhani accepted her almost immediately. She always wanted American modeling to have more diversity, even though she'd only ever seen one episode of America's Top Model. Anyway, Ruby spent 90% of her time networking and trying to find a good agent. She got a job as a waitress at Supernova, because she needed to support her habit of buying a multitude of cosmetic products. But that was the only thing she had to pay for as she still lived at home with her mother and her mother paid her car insurance.

At the moment Ruby is still trying to find a reliable agent while holding down the waitressing job at Supernova.

After her stepfather died, Sonya lost it. She used to be a stick thin girl who often struggled with finding her size at the mall. But after Bryant died, Sonya started relying on food to cure her sadness. Bryant had always been her favorite parent, he has been sensitive and understanding and he always supported her. Sonya loved her mother, but she and Bhani never meshed well. Bhani was a harsh woman with a cynical view on life and Sonya hated having to deal with her mother's constant negativity. But Bryant was the best possible father and when he died a piece of Sonya went with him.

It was safe to say that Sonya's life became super shitty after her dad bit it. She started dressing down, wearing oversized clothes, ugly sneakers and only running a brush through her hair once in the morning. In the past she used to wear cute tights, flats and dress shirts. She used to braid her hair and wear make up. And this pissed her mother off. She didn't outright say anything about Sonya's sudden weight gain and lack of presentable appearance, but she would make subtle digs or fatphobic jokes. Sonya's sister Ruby started hiding her snacks and publicly suggesting that Sonya choose the 'healthier' alternative when they were eating out. Sonya started pulling away from her sister and mother who looked like a duo to her.

When Sonya graduated she achieved the honor of being valedictorian and got a full ride to a college out of the state. Her mother was appalled at the fact that Sonya was going away, and accused her of abandoning her and her sister, but Sonya took no notice and took the first flight out of California. She didn't cut her family off completely, she called them occasionally and posted updates on Facebook, but she never came home for the holidays. In college, Sonya started officially calling herself Sonya to better fit in with her more Americanized peers.

After graduating from college with a Master's degree in Education Administration, she returned to Bayland. Her return was greeted with a big party thrown by her mother, and for a moment Sonya thought her mother had changed.

Until Bhani found out that her daughter had officially changed her name from Nishat to Sonya. That was when the fatphobic jokes, and not so subtle digs began to resurface. The party ended with Sonya yelling at her mother, packing most of her prized possessions in a bag and leaving the house. Thankfully, before Sonya had left college she had applied to Bayland High School for the principal position and had gotten it, so she stayed with one of her high school mathlete buddies for awhile, until she got her first check and was able to get a flat at doubleton.

The first few years living by herself had been lonely, but Sonya wasn't sorry for her lack of communication with her family, but after two Christmases, Sonya's mother and sister came for a visit. Bhani never out right apologized, but she did give Sonya a used car as a present and Sonya tried not to get pissed off at the fact that she, the daughter with the degree had gotten a used car and Ruby the daughter who had never gone to college had gotten an up to date new car. The visit seemed to be going to smoothly until Bhani abruptly shoved a folder into Sonya's arms. When Sonya inquired about it, Bhani gave her a satisfied little smirk and said, "Well I want to have grandkids someday and you don't want to grow up a lonely hag do you? It's an accumulation of spouse profiles of course." And that as when Sonya kicked her mother and sister to the curb and stopped talking to them completely.

She thought that maybe some kids had gotten pissed off about being put on the naughty list and abandoned her shopping to watch. But instead of angry kids, she found a dorky saggy faced dog, wreaking havoc in Santa's village while said holiday icon and a few security guards tried desperately to catch him. Finally after about thirty minutes the dog was caught by Animal Control and taken to the pound. Simply witnessing the display had made Sonya laugh harder than she had laughed in days since her mother had started harassing her about her name change, and Sonya figured she needed a bit more laughter in her life so she went to the pound and adopted the dog.)

To say the least, Bethany is quite the odd-some loner. She spends most of her time silently judging others and rest is spent perfecting her piano skills. She's is especially selective with her words and who she chooses to create relations with. This is rather ironic, considering she sells her self to keep her image. Her morality is jumbled, and Bethany is often making haste decisions or complicating simple situations. Most of her conversations take place in her head, whereas she tends to overthink things and second guess herself. Highly insecure and extremely doubtful of herself, Bethany will punish herself when faced with failures. Stoic, curt, and quite cynical, Bethany pushes away from any who try to befriend her. Bethany rarely shows her emotions, and chooses to plunge them down in the deep pits of her mind. She's cautious of others and extremely untrusting, making it a rare occasion that she'll be open to having a heart-to-heart with someone. Bethany finds a lot of her inner problems insignificant, and forced herself to act as if they're not there. It's rare that you'll find Bethany expressing any extreme emotion, nor will you find her open to socializing with others.Although it's plentiful, Bethany refuses to show her anxiety to others or allow them to help her with her problems. Her independence is often her weakness, as she rarely admits when she needs help. It's hard to say how Bethany would react around those who matter to her, as the concept of friendship continues to mystify her. She enjoys her solitude and can get quite frustrated when it's not given to her.
