For some strange reason, Bastian is able to see small glimpses of anyone's future through the remains of loose tea leaves. Just like tea leaves, Bastian can see glimpses of someone's past and future through the lines on people's palms. It's not as accurate than other methods, but it at least shows what kind of life someone will have.

Extra Sensory Perception
All Psychicaes have the innate ability of extrasensory perception. They are able to sense and detect spirits, creatures, objects, and locations that exist outside of the current dimension (D209-Earth). Bastian is no exception to the rule. He grew up with the ability to interact with the spiritual world through verbal communication and physical contact. He's able to see the different spectrums of aura of the living of the dead, making it easy for Bastian to pinpoint if he's talking to someone that is alive or has been dead for quite some time. Spirits, however can interact with Bastian the same way he can. They're able to touch him and physically touch the Psychicae which can be quite dangerous for someone like him. However, it's near impossible for any other spirit to influence and possess Bastian for one reason: he's already being possessed by a cursed spirit.
Possessed
Bastian is cursed by a vengeful spirit, allowing it to forcefully possess his body whenever it sees fit. Because he is cursed, the only thing he can do is banish the spirit and cleanse his soul is to break the curse. He must endure the same heartbreak he's inflicted on so many women and must feel like he's been "screwed over" the the one he's come to love. Any women that he tries to get close with, romantically or sexually, will be scorned by the spirit and be haunted by its presence. There are upsides to being possessed. For one, no other soul can possess what's already inhabited by a spirit. Another… well, Bastian should count himself lucky for what type of spirit has cursed him.
Psychometry
Bastian was born with a unique gift as a Psychicae. He is able to see scenes of the past and future play out in his mind… by touching an object. An object however, has to hold significant spiritual energy and emotion in order for Bastian to see the item. Whether an object reveals a scene in the past or future isn't up to Bastian either. He sees what the object gives him. There are times that he is able to see small glimpses of the future through divination techniques such as tarot card readings.

Along with the standard 9mm, Bastian carries around an assigned artifact from the Department of the Occult & Magic. To the untrained eye, it appears as a standard 357 Magnum Snubnose Revolver. However, this handgun was especially enchanted for the sake of being able to fight against supernatural beings. It gives Bastian the ability to banish spirits to the Void with a single shot. The bullets are made of enchanted properties and magic seals in order to give normal people said ability. Because Bastian lacks the power to banish and fight malevolent spirits, he was assigned the Spirit Gun.

When asked about his childhood, Bastian acknowledges the second half of it. How he started going to a public school during his middle school years and was instantly loved by the girls and envied by the boys. He was a rising star on his team's lacrosse team and started making a name in the culinary world. High school was the best time of his life. He had everything he wanted. Everyone praised his name and accomplishments. Bastian was on his way to success as a chocolatier. After high school was alright. He worked a high end patisserie while getting his fill of the ladies. Romance was something he toyed with. Like a cat with a ball of yarn, he tangled up women and left them in a mess afterwards. Cheating was second nature to him. There is just too many beautiful women that attracts his attention. This would lead to his downfall however.
He screwed with the wrong woman.
What Bastian doesn't like to mention is how he got to this point. How can anyone be friends with a freaky kid that was twice the size of the other classmates? Why would he talk about how everyone alienated from the things they couldn't see? What he knew about some of his classmates that scared them? Why mention how scared his parents were that their child was going crazy? The only thing he was grateful for was a stranger. An old woman that knew what was going on. Knew that Bastian wasn't crazy. How her uncles and aunts knew her, he never asked. She's the only woman (nonfamily) Bastian was ever grateful for. Along with her kooky training, she blessed him with a set of tarot cards to "sort his mind."
But… this isn't "Bastian's" past. That's just a dumb brat that didn't know any better who grew up to be a jerk. A jerk that used his freaky gifts to figure things out and beat his competition. Used it to trick ladies and leave them in the end. Missy knows.
She knows the truth about Bastian, down to his "binges" whenever he's upset. She knows what kind of women he likes and how he'd twist them. Every little detail is her's now after she cursed Bastian. After she died. Maybe, there was some good in him during her final moments. That, or he saw it in his vision and wanted to stop her. Undo her Babushka's curse on him. Who knows? Least she's not scared about the afterlife anymore. No… she's having a time of her undead life in driving Bastian nuts! She's had fun ruining Bastian's career and leaving him "starved" of women for the past 4 years. The whole fiasco with the cult was amazing too, especially when they figured out the virgin wasn't so "pure" after all…
But, hey, if it wasn't for her, Bastian wouldn't have gotten a job at B.O.O. The organization was hesitant with the offer at first… but there wasn't someone with his abilities as strong as his. In the end, they had to accept a fugitive spirit attached to him… for the time being. They supplemented what was missing in Bastian's teaching and then some. Now, this mission to Japan is his first job as an official B.O.O. agent… and Missy's.

The Delecroix Family has been a great influence in France's culinary arts since the early 60's. They are known for producing one of the best black truffles, foie gras, and cheeses in the country (if not the world). While Bastian's parents act as the middleman to sell the wares, his aunts and uncles are in charge of producing the splendid products. There are a few cousins that have made a name as chefs in France, the UK, Spain, and the US. -
Psychicae
B.O.O. defines Psychicaes as humans that have been born with highly "sensitive" senses and a mind not restricted by their physical reality. They are able to interact with beings from other dimensions such as human spirits, immortal spectors, and the Stygius without restriction and any form of outside enhancement. Psychicaes are regularly referred as "psychics" and "mediums" by the general populous with the majority not believing in their existence. It is common for Psychicaes to be misdiagnosed with mental illnesses and wind up living the rest of their lives in mental hospitals.
One of the biggest weaknesses for Psychicaes is having their senses "altered" through outside means. Alcohol consumption is the least impacting due to the temporary effects it has on the brain (not long term and high consumption of alcohol). Drugs (prescriptions and otherwise) is considered the most dangerous due to their ability to permanently alter the brain, leading to Psychicaes being "cut off" from their ability. If a Psychicaes' senses is destroyed, they are referred as "being closed."
Psychicaes are different from EVOs (evolved humans) that has mind powers. They don't have abilities such as telekinesis or mind/emotional altering powers. Vice versa for EVOs when it comes to "seeing" paranormal and unnatural activities.
They have to watch out when it comes to dealing with spirits and other paranormal activities. If a Psychicae doesn't have any protective charms or seals in place, they can become a victim of a possessions (far easier than regular humans). They are also seen as "potent" meals for those that feed on blood and are regularly used as "ingredients" in potions. Psychicaes virgins are the most commonly used sacrifices for blood-letting rituals.
Lala "Missy" Zugravescu
Lala was just your ordinary girl from a traveling gypsy family. When they came to Paris, she thought she'd find the man of her dreams and fall in love. Too bad she met Bastian: the last man she'd ever meet. When she found out Bastian was cheating on her, Lala confronted Bastian... only to be insulted for her secret love of gay romances of many genres. Heartbroken, she had help from her grandmother to place a curse on him. Only, the curse didn't start until AFTER she died in a freak car accident. Now, she spends her time making Bastian's life hell while catching up on her favorite shows through forced possession.
