Name:
Kazefuu Akoli-Mei
"May" or "Koli"
Age:
17
Gender:
Female
Element:
Air
Sexuality:
Bisexual
Strengths:
Akoli-Mei is quick on her feet, and can dive into action quick. Her speed is one of her greatest assets.
She's a goos listener and tends to pick up on things she doesn't realize are important until much later.
She's quite accomplished with a glider, and can even use random objects she finds that are light as sturdy enough as substitute. She excels in the air.
She is a highly accomplished master of the 'nope' fighting style, which consists mainly mainly of dodging and a bit of defense.
She's not bad at offense either, but the 'nope' style is her specialty.
Weaknesses:
Akoli-Mei is rash, and doesn't always plan things through. She dives head first into things a expects instinct and quick thinking to carry her through.
Sometimes Akoli-Mei will pick up or learn something important but tends not to remember until its almost to late to do anything with it.
She's not good at dealing with negative emotions and can shut down because of them. And has a hard time letting people in when it comes to them.
While she was taught how to use a fan with her air bending she just simply isn't any good at it. She can't even seem to get it to work just right; her attacks go everywhere!
She prefers her staff or air blade hilt to the fan.
Personality:
Akoli-Mei is future oriented, restless, and a firm believer that something better is just around the corner. She's a quick thinker who has a great deal of energy; always looking for something, whether its productive or not, to occupy her time and, more importantly, her brain. She's quick to spring into action with or without a plan, even though she can think quickly on her feet, her brainpower tends to be pushed more towards taking in all the variables and constants of a problem, rather then actually laying out a plan. Her access energy, restlessness, and quick thoughts create just the right conditions to breed her curious nature. She like's getting into things she probably shouldn't. This leads her to be rather mischievous and, occasionally, a troublemaker. Her heart however tends to be in the right place.
Akoli-Mei has a bit of a reputation for being an incessant talker; she will speak with almost anyone, and tends not to really know when to shut up. It's not always idle chatter, mind you, but most don't want to here it anyways. You could consider her as having the 'gift of gab' but those who have to actually hear her prattle on might just consider it a curse. Despite her love of talking she's also the kind of person who will readily sit, listen and learn about and from others. While she can hold a one-sided conversation she much prefers when her conversation partner speaks back.
She doesn't much like letting others see her in moments of sadness or grief. She prefers to keep negative emotions under wraps and work things through on her own. This would be fine and dandy if she was capable of doing so. She's not the best at handling her own grief and will box it away a let it simmer until it begins to fester. Until it explodes outward in some form of attack or break down it's not the best or healthiest way to deal with things, but it's the only way she knows.
Akoli-Mei tries to be as up beat as possible, and success most of the time. She's usually a source of bad jokes, and even worse puns. If you need someone to cheer you up or just someone to listen she'll do her best to help out and keep the mood light. Up beat and lively she prefers to be a valuable asset to a team rather then a leader. So her position in things suits her just fine.
She craves human connections, and enjoys close personal relationships. She doesn't care if these relationships are platonic or otherwise. Her reluctance to let others see the bad along with the good can hinder her ability to make those close personal connections she wants. For those she does forge a connection with she's willing to put herself out there and help them however she can, whether they are negative or positive in regards to herself. Her attempts aren't always helpful.
History:
Akoli-Mei was the fifth child of a family consisting of six. Her family was large in the sense of children but uncles, aunts, and cousins as well. Her world was filled with flocks of loving family. When she was sad their was always someone their to lean on. When she was hurting there was always someone to take the pain. When she was bored there was always someone to play with. She was never lonely. She never felt unloved. In short, she was blessed. Her family was blessed. After all, Benders were such a rare thing these days.
The majority of this large family of hers were benders, in fact, the only non benders were: two of her older siblings, her mother, her mothers brother, three cousins, and a few aunts and uncles that had married in. Because of the surplus of benders around her there was never an end to the people she could learn from, or the things she could learn. She caught on quickly, and showed herself to be what people considered a natural.
Her parents decided early on that she was learning much to quickly for them, she had picked almost everyone in the family's techniques apart and made them her own. There wasn't much else they could teach her. It was then, around her seventh birthday, they started sending her to the temples to learn from the masters. She would be gone for days and then back for others. She felt a deep loss at being away from her family so often, but thrived under the master's teachings. She adapted and grew used to being away from her family now in then. It didn't mater much to her if she couldn't see them all the time, as she knew they would always be their when she went home.
Until one day they weren't.
She arrived home after a week of training and found it odd when the large home was completely silent. She assumed at first that maybe they were just playing a game. Hide and Seek. She wandered the house in search of them and didn't have go far. Right in the first hall laid her Father's brothers and two of her own, slaughtered like animals. Upon her discovery she moved about in a frenzied panic, darting from room to room finding her family all cut down. It was bloody, it was excessive, and it was brutal. It was…just to much for a child. She ran.
She grabbed her father's glider and ran. She didn't even look back. She carried herself to the nearest drop and tossed herself from the earth and took to the sky. She tried to fly from it all, she tried to fly forever, because the second she touched the ground she would have to face what had happened. She flew for a day and a half; her only company being her confused and distressed thoughts. 'Who would have done this to her family? Why?' Eventually exhaustion took over and she crashed down.
When she woke she found she had crashed onto the lands of a kind elderly couple, which nursed her back to health. She had been out for three days and when she woke she was bound to a bed for three more. The couple didn't want her up and about until they were sure she was healed. They let her stay with them, and in return she helped manage their farmlands. She grew to love the two as her own family, and for this reason alone she never told them what had happened to bring her to them. She wanted to spare them her sorrow, feeling as if being a happy addition to their lives was the least she could do.
She was only with the couple for a couple of months before she was approached by the Order of the White Lotus approached her. Apparently they had been observing her bending while working in the fields for a while now and wanted her to come with them to train with them. To work with the Avatar of all things! She had never been able to turn away from someone who was willing to teacher her new and interesting bending. She readily agreed.
