Strengths
-Ice- Hiryu specializes in the use of Ice while water bending. He has used this ice in genuinely new ways. [Probably thanks to his intelligence]

-Knowledge/Intelligence- While Hiryu may not be the greatest fighter in a blank slate. He is able to take advantage of nearly any environment he is placed in. This is thanks to his extensive knowledge of how water works and what contains water.
-Deceptive Abilities- Hiryu is a very capable liar and if needed can deceive people with the best of them. [Think of him as a modern Azula, but less bratty]

-Lie-Detector- While not able to constantly sense the physical changes such as certain well-trained earth benders. Hiryu has studied and done enough lying to be able to quickly pick up on when someone is doing it.

Weaknesses
-Compassion- Hiryu tends to be rather cold at times. [No pun relating to his use of Ice intended]

-Socializing- Due to his cold and undermining nature, Hiryu is not very good at socializing with others he doesn't already know.

-Pride- When Hiryu believes himself to be right on a matter, there is no stopping him from going through with it. He barrels past most peoples logical thinking when he feels, no, he KNOWS, he is right.
-Agateophobia- The Fear of Insanity, or becoming insane. Hiryu's worst fear is to be afflicted with, or to be near, anyone or anything that would suggest insanity. For he knows if he was to go insane, his cold nature could cause him to kill others, even his friends, without thinking or caring.

Personality
Hiryu is a very calculated, no-nonsense individual. While he is not against having fun, or other pass times. If there is work to be done or other things requiring attention, he will go to no ends to make sure it is done in a very timely manner. This causes him to ridicule anyone who goofs off as well as come off as a "Fun hater".

Hiryu's matter-of-fact way of speaking makes him seem EXTREMELY sarcastic when stating a fact. Even though he is simply saying it as a correction to a false fact, he goes about it in such a way that he tends to unintentionally insult people. And when speaking to anyone who is a stickler for royal tradition, most could guess this way of speaking would go down very badly for him, probably with him getting a sentence of some kind for speaking to royalty with disrespect.

Hiryu is not exactly the most romantically inclined individual. Though he is entirely capable of being romantic, his nature always tends to "get in the way". Hiryu would never hope to make an advance towards a girl he wasn't sure he liked, this is thanks to the fact he is much too shy to do that, and that he would have no idea what to say in that situation.

There is one redeeming factor to Hiryu, if someone or something is hurt, he will protect and nurture them better than many mothers. This makes him extremely good with animals, he himself commenting "Animals are amazing. They don't expect anything but food, water, and a good place to sleep. They don't make mistakes, they just follow their nature. That's probably why I get along with them so much better than with people." He has a pet Iguana Parrot which perches on his shoulder commonly.

History
Hiryu was born to a couple in the Northern Water Tribe. His mother was very reserved and quiet, while his father was loud and proud. He had a brother who was three years older than him, the brother acted much like the father, and they would go hunting and fishing together, leaving Hiryu at home with his mother. Hiryu grew close to his mother, helping her around the house when his brother and father were off on their little "adventures". His mother, like him, was a bender, while his brother and father were not.

It wasn't until Hiryu heard a banging on the door at night that things began to turn for the worst. It turned out that the adventures of his brother and father were actually criminal works. They had gotten involved with a dangerous gang that were raiding coastal ships. And now, the gang wanted revenge for the two getting them caught in their last operation. The door was busted down and the house began to smell of fire. The gang killed his brother, his mother, and his father. Unaware of the second son who had stayed home, the gang left after stealing some things before the house was burnt to the ground. Hiryu had escaped while the gang stole from the other rooms, hiding in the snow outside.

He grew up as an orphan, but he was far from bad off. While the gang had stolen a good portion of his father's possessions, Hiryu knew about a safe his father had hidden in the ground beneath his brother's room. When the fire had died and Hiryu collected himself, he dug into the ground and took out the safe. He hid it in his own hiding place, and went to the authorities. They gave him a place to call home until they figured out what to do with him. When Hiryu told them he had a large amount of money himself, the authorities went with him to retrieve it. The amount of money in the safe astounded even Hiryu. The money within was enough to pay for his whole life. A house for himself, and a top rate education. Hiryu buried himself in his studies in order to do what he thought would make his mother proud, so he trained, and studied, all the ways he could think of to better himself at waterbending and intellectual paths. He learned advanced mathmatics and chemistry. He learned this and applied it to his bending. Making ice weapons so sharp they could cut perfectly through very hard substances such as wood, and even some weak metals. And when cutting did not work, he applied other properties, such as forcing water between cracks in armor, then freezing it, splitting it apart.

After learning everything the men at the northern water tribe could teach him, Hiryu decided to leave the place. He took his money, and headed for the Earth Kingdom to see if living there could help him. While there, he met small Iguana Parrot that was being sold at shop, it was to be sold or it was going to die from lack of good conditions. He bought it right away and the two developed a strong bond over the next couple of months. After living in the Earth Kingdom a good 3/4 of a year, Hiryu was called upon as one to work with the Avatar. His answer was this "Not like I have better things to do with my life...fine."​
 
@SgShallow Yes! She did, but as it says in the introduction, she and all of the other Avatars have faded off into legend. In fact, almost no one knows that there is a new Avatar.

I was thinking of having my character be younger. I was thinking 12 like Aang and Toph or 14 like Ty Lee if you wanted him closer to everyone else ages.
what would you rather?

Strengths:
Bending- Katsu is very skilled at his bending and likes to show it off at times. He can even do advanced techniques such as heat control, lightning generation and lightning redirection
Martial arts-Katsu is good at different forms of martial arts and likes to use them with his bending
Stamina/Endurance-Katsu has a lot of stamina/endurance and can fight(Or anything else that involves stamina/endurance)
Determination-Once Katsu decides he's going to do something he will get it finished
Loyal- Katsu is very loyal to friends

Weaknesses:
Hot girls-If Katsu sees a hot girl he forgets what he's doing and starts hitting on them
Thalassophobia -Katsu is terrified of the sea because of what happened to his family
Anger issues-Katsu get angry easily
Regular weaknesses- Katsu is weak to the same weaknesses as all other firebenders
Lightning-Katsu isn't that good at his lightning and when he preforms them it takes a lot of energy and it injures him slightly


Personality:
Katsu is a very kind person but he is also very immature and sometimes rude. He may act like a child at times but when he is in a battle or trying to complete a goal/task he is like a total different person. He becomes somewhat serious but not that much and he focuses a lot on what he is trying to achieve be it trying to defeat an opponent or trying to complete a goal...but if there is a hot girl he loses almost all focus. He can become very angry if you strike a nerve and is not afraid to throw a punch or shoot some flames at you for pissing him off. He also has a case of thalassophobia (fear of the sea) because of the incident of what happened to his mother and grandfather. He also has a small hatred towards law officials for what happened to his father.

History:
Katsu was born in the Fire Nation Capital. His mother was a high ranking fire nation official and was very kind and gentle. His father was a very great man always believing in what was right and that if you start something it must be finished and to always be loyal to friends. He also had a grandfather That was very wise and was also a firebender and believed that when in a fight you must achieve victory.

During his childhood he learned to master his firebending with his grandfather and learned martial arts with his father but he couldn't do much with his mother because she was to busy with work but sometimes they would all go to Ember island for a weekend. He also went to school where his class was filled with hot girls and he flirted with everyone of them and also made a lot of friends.

But when he was 13 he and his family were out shopping and getting food and while he had gotten some apples he heard his father cry out in pain and drooped the apples and rushed over. He saw a crowd of people surrounding what seemed to be his father on the ground. He pushed them all aside and went to his fathers side and found him dead and he looked up to see an officer with some of his squad all holding food. he asked the officer what happened and he said that he killed his father for threating him for taking all the food from this shop for themselves. Katsu was shocked to hear that, that officers of the law were using there power for their own gain and killing people just for standing up to them. Katsu was enraged and attacked the officer with his fire severely burning him and some of his men (they were not benders). After they attacked with their swords but Katsu melted some of them but one guy managed to stab him in the gut. Katsu was even angrier and shot lightning at the officers killing them. After that his Mother and grandfather showed up and dropped their food after seeing the sight before them. they rushed to Katsu after he collapsed after doing the lightning technique and blacked out after losing to much blood.

When Katsu awoke he was at Boiling Rock and in a cell. He saw that his wound had healed and he saw his mother and grandfather outside the cell. He asked them what was going on and they told him that he was at Boiling Rock and he is now a convicted criminal with a 50 year sentence for killing those officers but his mother promised that she would get him out. He was at boiling rock for 5 years before his mother was able to get him out thanks to her being a high ranking fire nation official.

When he returned to the outside world his friends no longer talked to him and the girls hated him. Katsu was depressed his friends hated him and his father was dead. His mother saw that he was depressed so she decided to plan a month trip at Ember Island. Katsu was against it at first but went anyway. When he and his family got there the first week was bad since he just stayed in his room. During the second week he got out and started having fun he went swimming, played some Kuai ball and some other stuff. But on the last day was something he could never forget. He and his family were on a boat sailing having fun when suddenly a storm started and sae began creating huge waves. Katsu didn't know what to do he and his family held on for dear life when suddenly a lighting bolt came down on them but his grandfather saved him by redirecting the lighting but he was so old the lighting caused him to have a heart attack and he died. Katsu was now terrified and was shocked to see that his grandfather had just died saving them. The next thing to happen was the worst a huge tidal wave came and swallowed up the boat and the last thing he was before he blacked out was his mothers face in the water as the drifted apart. When he awoke he was on Ember island alone and orphaned. He spent a bit of time on Ember Island and was told that he had to leave but he did not want to go back on a boat to leave so they put him on a hot air balloon. When he returned home he felt so alone until one day after hitting on a girl and showing of his firebending talents a man approached him and asked him if he wanted to work with the avatar and he decided to do it.​
