还有什么比在做怪物还是做英雄之间做出选择更不公平的呢?当你必须两者兼得时。当你得知通往地狱的道路不仅仅是善意的。
What is more unfair than having to choose between being a monster or being a hero? —When you have to be both. When you learn that the road to hell is paved with more than just good intentions.

Dark blemishes lay wrapped around his ankles and wrists from being constrained [ one of his worst fears ] in total darkness, unable to communicate with anyone but his depleting thoughts. Yingjie has a multitude of smaller scars from minor scuffles and accidents he found himself in with his odd ways and a tendency to ignore the safer route. Background
✦ Yingjie was born into the temple of Hadria; the god of death, so it was only natural for the child to follow in his parents' footsteps [ Yingjie ended up worshipping Ulrike later on in life ]. Training was excruciating, but he managed to make his parents proud as he sailed with flying colors but Yingjie knew this wasn't a life he wanted to live, but what could the small child do? As he grew older, his will shifted, causing him to ask outlandish questions that often left him withered, unable to move but a few inches to ease the tremendous pain blossoming underneath his tattered clothing. He differed from the other assassins. He refused to kill unless it gave him a proper motive, unable to come to terms with mindless killing. He wanted to protect the innocent and ruthlessly slaughter those who deserved a fate much worse than death. He craved justice, but Yingjie followed an unorthodox path from Hadria and Haroun.
His parents were furious. Ashamed to have created such a being that valued others above his own. A child who wanted to help more than destroy it. In fear of being cursed by Hadria, they locked him in an underground cellar for weeks, hoping to change his ways. That if they became more ruthless to their own child, then perhaps he'd become a monster just like them.
Yingjie was a stubborn fellow despite the hefty consequences. For the past fifteen years of his life, they forced him to endure countless lashings that left him black and blue. To endure being locked up like a wild animal, unable to see any form of light as he sat in the ankle-deep water, shivering until his "parents" let him out.
Growing up with little to no food, he opted to scavenge for food his village often threw out, hoping to quench his rumbling stomach. His parents refused to see him as their child until he apologized for being an embarrassment, but Yingjie refused to bow down onto his knees like some servant begging for mercy.
Turning the ripe age of fifteen, they dealt Yingjie an even harsher blow than normal, leaving him weak and unable to form even the basic of sentences. His parents threw him in that dreaded underground cellar with water now up to his thighs, forcing him to stand on quacking legs in order to not drown. His parents opted to leave the door unlocked after their latest lashing, knowing well enough that he could scarcely stand, much less escape into the wilderness with wolves and feral dogs roaming its woods.
They forgot just how stubborn their child could be and what they thought was an advantage became a weakness. The countless beatings he received over the past fifteen years only made his pain tolerance higher. Yingjie high-tailed it out of there and into the wilderness he had yet to explore as a toddler. With adrenaline running through his veins and the training he received as a child worked in harmony as he ran.
As soon as he entered the forest separating the temples of Hadria and Haroun. Carnivorous wolves soon discovered him with teeth bared and drool dripping down their open maws. Fear encompassed his heart, rooting him to his spot as he stared wide-eyed at the ferocious beasts, wondering if this was the day he was finally going to die. The carnivorous wolves surged forward, intending to tear him limb from limb until he finally snapped out of his initial shock and high-tailed it out of there.
The so-called alpha pounded on his small frame, sending Yingjie flying, leaving him dizzy and out of breath. Darkness invaded his vision, leaving him weak and defenseless as the carnivorous animals surrounded his weak frame with bared teeth and the thirst of his flesh. Voice quivering as tears welled up within his dull hues. He stared at the very beings that would send him to his grave until a flash of blue light graced his darkening vision.
Yingjie eventually woke up covered in bandages and herbal remedies, leaving his senses disorientated as he struggled to sit up. A cold yet gentle hand reached over to encompass his shoulder, nuzzling him before the sound of the guqin entered his buzzing ears. As he slowly regained his bearings, he wondered how he was alive, but soon got rid of the idea as he stared at the man dressed in white and blue.
A week soon went by with Zhiqiang taking care of the obnoxious fifteen-year-old known as Yingjie until he deemed the lateral able to travel without needing his help. Yingjie wasn't sure where he went the next couple of days, but he was naturally stubborn. Upon returning, Yingjie stuck to the boy like glue for the next three years. Zhiqiang was the first individual to show him such kindness and planned on repaying the debt by being the obnoxious and chaotic child he had always been. A life with him was never boring.
For the past three years, Yingjie convinced Zhiqiang to return to his family where he was introduced to Zhiqiang's parents, who couldn't be more happy he had made a friend [ even if Yingjie wasn't ideal, they were still happy ]. Yingjie continues to worship Hadria but has taken up worshipping Ulrike, mainly because of the horrible memories of his parents and life at the temple of Hadria. Zhiqiang continues to be clueless about and Yingjie plans on keeping it that way.

如果这是我余生的样子呢?战斗后战斗, 几乎没有任何恢复的空间。如果我要这样做,我的余生呢?表现得比我强壮?
What if this is what it's going to be like for the rest of my life? Fight after fight, barely getting any room to recover. What if I'm going to have to do this for the rest of my life; act stronger than I am?
