Legend tells of a powerful sword. A weapon made of both magic and steel. It was the first enchanted weapon ever made. This sword was first used by a great warrior of the north and a powerful elf witch in the South. Together they used the sword to vanquish the forces of darkness. For whomever held onto this sword held the destiny of the world in its hands. This legend still held true for a thousand years.

The sword itself was then hidden from the world but the warrior and elf built their own legacy. Their first descendants were half breeds called Bretons and over time the Bretons made their own kingdom in the west. It was called Britannia. And so the world lived in relative peace and prosperity. All except for a small race of men.

In the land of Kyrule a race of men was made to suffer the cold tundras. They forgot the old teachings and darkness once again grew in their hearts. The dark desire to conquer. To make war. From this race of men one great warrior rose to power. With him he carried a dangerous weapon that would threaten to destroy all that is fair and good. He brought the warring clans together under his iron fist and he became known as Krom the Barbarian King. Krom was summoning an army so great and so fierce it would threaten all of the five realms.

But all hope is not lost for their are forces at work that plan to face this challenge. For in the hour of need, alliances will be forged and destiny will reveal itself once again. The Arcane Sword will return. That is the prophecy.

Meanwhile in the open plains and valleys in the West lies the beautiful kingdom of Britannia, home of the Bretons. As it was told in legend Bretons are decendants of human and elves. They look not as fair as the and not as tall as the elves. But they are a noble and resilient race with great skill in magic. The Bretons have flourished giving birth to Scholars artist poets and merchants. With great ambition they have brought a new era of civilization to the realms. Among these great people stood the precious jewel of Britannia.

Princess Maeyim Roella D'Ollnysh, the king's only daughter who was loved and admired by her people. She was the most beautiful and fairest in her kingdom and she was about to partake in the biggest adventure of her life. Now that she has come of age she was arranged to be married to the Elven King of Valhiem. This was a political marriage to ensure a strong alliance between the two kingdoms. Britannia was aware of the threat coming from the North. If they gain the support of the elves they maybe be able to stop the barbarians from invading. This marriage would save her people.

And so the princess would need to travel across the land to on a journey to the realm of Valhiem. With her she would be escorted by her royal guard which included her best knight. Sir Ector Van Lichtenstein of Yorickstead, also known as the hero of Syvek. Sir Ector is a young but valiant knight who has served as the royal guard for the princess. He carried this position for over 4 years and has developed a good relationship with the her. But now they would prepare for a long journey to meet her future husband. And this is where our story truly begins.

Maeyim removed her circlet from her brow, and held it in her hand. Raising it to eye level, she held it in the candle light and examined the multi-colored gem in the center. Sighing, she placed it back in its place, and looked at her reflection in the seeing glass. It's importance meant a lot, and held a lot of respect from the kingdom. The jewel of her family rested right in the center: the opal. Only members of the D'Ollynish family were allowed to wear the opal anywhere on them. Not even a ring was to be worn, unless given explicit permission.

She closed the door to her chambers, and leaned against the wooden frame. Looking left, then right, she made sure that her route of escape was clear of anyone. She wanted to be just a princess for as long as she could. Soon, she would be married to a man whom she had never met, never laid her eyes on, and had no idea what he was really like. Naturally, no one would bad mouth a king to the face of a princess. For all she knew, he could have three eyes, and a nose on his neck. She shuddered at the mere thought. However, she knew her responsibility and would meet it in stride without complaining -- much.

At her most favored part of the whole castle, she found her way into the aviary. There, atop the perch at the highest point was her favorite falcon: Nyx. Clicking her tongue, she held out her lace adorned forearm, as Nyx zeroed in on landing. His talons gripped hard, and pierced the skin slightly. Chiding herself for not putting on her leather bracer, she hissed in pain as his talons sunk in for balance as she started moving around. Looking around for help, she saw the shadow of someone but luckily saw her bracer resting on a hook on the wall.

The shadowy figure of a man was no other than Sir Ector who grabbed the braver off the hook of the wall and walked with it towards her. As he walked closer to her the lights revealed more of his face and body. He was at tall handsome looking man with Broad shoulders and blue eyes. He had a resting grin on his face as he gave the bracer the bracer to the princess. "You always forget to wear this when you are calling Nyx. Your father wouldn't like seeing you harm you skin, your grace." Ector spoke as he would help her putting it on. He had a good relation with the hawk along with the princess so the bird didn't mind too much when it was being moved from one arm to the other.

Ector was a knight of the Royal guard and on of kings most trusted bodyguards. He was assigned this duty 4 years. During that time he was able to establish a strong friendship with the princess. He also took his duty as her protector very seriously. For there was more than one occasion he had to save her.

During that time of servitude he watched as Maeyim grow into the Beautiful woman she was today. Like everyone else he grew to love and admire her. But his love was not like the others and he could not express such a love. A knight could not fall in love with a princess especially when she was arranged to be married to another. And so he kept such feelings of love to himself. As a knight he must put his duty before his feelings.

"We are almost ready to depart my princess. We cannot delay. Have you spoken to the King?"

Screwing up her face at his comment, she softened immediately and gave him a genuine smile.
"Given the chance, father would have me locked in the highest tower so nothing could harm me. No needles to stab my fingers with, no cup to drop wine on my lap, not even a comb to rip out a strand of hair. He would have me forever be a babe in the cradle he built for me." With the bracer now on her arm, she gave it an absentminded rub, and allowed Nyx to settle back down.

Walking over to the same wall where the bracer had once hung, she grabbed Nyx's blinder hood, and gently placed it over his large eyes. He clicked his beak as his vision was now blackened, but he was used to this. He flapped his wings excitedly almost as if he knew they were about to go hunting. But, alas, no. It was time to depart for her inescapable fate. Nyx was to be placed in his travelling case; there was simply no way that she would ever go anywhere without him.

"I have not spoken to father, no. I ran out of my quarters, first thing this morning. Let me be just a princess for a few more minutes. May you wait a few with me, Sir Ector?" Her good breeding left her with proper manners, and a good vocabulary. Though, she typically let her guard down just a little when she was with Sir Ector. Maeyim had a fleeting summer where she was head-over-heels in love with Ector, but her mother quickly squelched that fantasy. He was not of her station, so it would never be. Though, it did not stop her from noticing his fine features, and the way his eyes glinted in the sun light. "All right, you may take me to my future." She sighed as though the world was on her shoulders.

Deep down Ector wanted to stay with her for as long as possible. The idea of having her sent away to be married to another man was painful to think about. But he was trained to repress those feelings. Of course he couldn't help ton to fall for her sad eyes as she asked for him to stay with her. "Maeyim you will always be a princess and our nation's pride. If you asked it of me I would follow you to the depths of Oblivion and protect you from any threat."

Ector took her hand in his and looked deep into her eyes. Even though he smiled he indeed felt the same bit of sadness as he. Still he would try to cheer her up. "We have a long journey ahead of us. We will have plenty of time to explore the country side. Valley plains, Mountain passes, we might even see a dwarf. Now wouldn't that be exciting." Ector would continue to motivate the princess. He would always tell her stories about his travels with his mentor. How they met the elves, the dwarves and see many exotic lands.

Of all the stories however he never wanted to talk about the warriors Of the north. They were vicious and brutal barbarians. They only know how to fight and smithing. Their king is said to live in an iron fortress in The slopes Of a volcano. Ector has never seen it but he could only imagine how terrible a place it may be. He hopes that his princess may never see it.

As the saddle the horses the king went to wish his daughter safe travel. "Your Mother would be so proud of you, my princess. You are very brave in agreeing to this. Our people will be safe because of you. Sir Ector I trust to protect my daughter even if it costs you your life. Make sure she arrives to Valhiem in one piece" the kind ordered.

"Yes sir" Sir Ector saluted. The princess was to be escorted by him and four other bodyguards. They set foot out of The castle and began their journey. Ector made sure that My was kept safe on the travels.

Meawhile in the cold tundra of the north, The Barbarian King Krom was beginning to March his massive army south. He was ready to begin his conquest of all the five realms. He divided his Army among his trusted sons and warchiefs. Grognar the Skull-crusher, S'kaal the Beastmaster, Margoth the Mangler. But amongst them was his eldest son, the strongest and most deadliest warrior. His name was Kalgore the Stormblade. His savagery showed no limits and his rage is matched by his fathers cruelty.

Krom tasked his son to bring the Breton princess to him alive by any means necessary. Kalgore and his best trackers would set out riding on their giant sabre cats. These beasts were bigger than horses and twice as fast. Predators that can move across far distances among any Terrain. The Warriors in the North learned to tame them and ride them into battle. Kalgore and his men woul. Use them to hunt down the princess and kill anyone who gets in their way.

With Nyx safely in his travelling cage, she silently followed Ector. She found herself suddenly sullen, and extremely serious. She had known that this day would come; she knew it would be here in haste. With it now no longer something she could push to the back of her mind, she found that she was no longer able to pretend that all would be all right. She was about to lose everything: her home, her family, her knight in shining armor. Certainly, Ector wouldn't accompany her for the rest of her life. He was the kingdom's knight; her father's to command. She would be alone in this new kingdom with no one like her, no one to call a friend, and married to a man who was a stranger. Maeyim thought that she had prepared herself for this day better than she really had. In truth, she was a mixed up pile of emotions, all conflicting with one another. Sadness, fear, caution, and most overall, confusion.

She played what Ector had said minutes go over, and over in her mind. Yes, it would be adventurous to go exploring caverns, and looking for precious gemstones. It would not squelch the fear in her stomach over travelling to a distant land and having to marry someone she had never seen. She could not help but wonder if the elf king was as beautiful as they were rumored to be. Maeyim wanted to curl up underneath of a down blanket and sleep the future away. She, as of this day, was no longer "just" a princess - she would be a wedded Queen in her own right, just not Queen of the kingdom that she wanted to be.

Stopping in her tracks, she looked at the hard ground. Taking in a deep breath, she let the other soldier's and Ector continue walking. They were at the stables now, as the horses were being loaded up with their gear. She cast a sullen look at Ector and smiled gently.
"I have a favor to ask of you, dear friend." Wiping her sweaty, nervous palms on her dress unlady-like, she cleared her throat. "Make me do this. If I stop walking, push me. If I stop talking, ask me a question. Even if I start to cry, dry my tears and hoist me over your shoulder. I must do this for our country, Sir Ector. I must."

Ector would look back to her as she began to speak to him. He could tell by the look on her face and the sound of her voice that all of this was hard for her. It was sad to hear her say such words to him. But he understood what she meant. He understood that she could not do this alone she needed his help to put her on the path. Deep down even he didn't want her to do this. He didn't want to give her away to a complete stranger no matter how beautiful or kind he was. "Princess as your fellow knight I will do whatever it is you command of me. For that is my duty. But as your friend it would be difficult to force you it just something that makes you sad. All I want you is to be happy. So if you ask me to do this as your friend I promise you that I will be by your side to the very end."

As he spoke those words he offered his hand to her and would guide her to her horse. Then he helped her on her horse before they went to leave her kingdom. And so the travels truly began. They would ride across the farm lads and the Valley Hills. They would ride pass Sir Ector's home village Yorickstead. And then they would go into the forest of Havenwood. This was a force that had a path leading straight to the mountains. It was a dense forest with large thick trees. The passage seemed safe for now.

Little did they suspect that hiding behind the thick trees and the bushes was the barbarians ready to ambush. It was the same group led by Kalgore Storm-Blade who was waiting in silence for the right time to strike. Kalgore was a ferocious warrior who was known to rip off a man's head with his bare hands. But he was also a cunning one when needed.

Sir Ector had not yet detected the ambush. He was more focused on the princess. " Princess I was curious if you have been practicing your magic from that last book you studied?" you said this as she remembered she was trying to learn a special spell. He hoped it would help keep her mind distracted if they spoke together

Smiling gently, she nodded at his answer. She found herself strangely sullen, and speechless. She was physically ready to proceed; to continue this journey to help her kingdom. Though, mentally, she was still a rosy cheeked child, whom only wanted to run barefoot through the Spring lily's. And so, she pressed her feet forward. There was simply no backing out of it, there never was - and she knew this, though she did not agree with it. On to her horse, she went.

As they entered the small town from with her father's knight hailed, she made small talk with Ector about it. She asked what kind of house he lived in, what his parents were like. It made Maeyim realize that she did not really know Ector at all. Perhaps she had been immature for most of her life, and self-absorbed in what only she needed to know. This would be something that she would have to work on. With her to be the Queen of a neighboring country, she would need to absorb as much information about it as possible.

As they continued to ride, Ector snapped Maeyim out of her focused daze.
"I -- what? Oh, yes I have been working on it a little bit. Though, not as much as a I should. I fear I have been, er, distracted a bit." As she flushed, she let go of the reign's and held on with her left hand. Holding her right into the light of the sun, she could see the faint sparkles that were emanating around her hand as she focused on her magic within. She needed to practice more if she was to hone her abilities. "Come to think of it, I did bring the book with me."

When they passed through his home Ector explained that he was an orphan as he never met his father and his mother died when he was only 4. He was taken by an old farm family and made to work the stables. That was until he was 8 years old and was found by a noble Knight name Ulfric Van Lichtenstein. He told her re whole story. He was surprised it took so long for him to tell that story.

Ector was mostly fascinated by Maeyim's ability to use magic. It was told that the early bretons were able to use Magic very well as they had the blood of the elves with in them. But over the generations fewer breton's lost that ability. The princess was the exception as she was of a great royal line that extends to the very first elf queen and human King in days of old. The blood of the old elf queen runs strong in her veins.

" When you get to the elf kingdom I'm sure the king will show you all the magic you want. For elves magic is a part of them like an extension one one self. Mastering life force in themselves and in nature which is why they're able to live longer than most of us." Ector would explain what he knew about the elves during his travels. Though the owls are not immortal he managed to meet one elf who is over 200 years old and looked like he was his age.

Going down the forest trail Ector began to notice that it was very quiet. Maybe too quiet. Something doesn't feel right as he began to look at his surroundings. It was becoming unsettling and he ordered the guards ahead to halt. Including Ector, there were 12 knights protecting the princess. One of the knights rode up to him. " Sir Ector the roads are clear what's wr--" before the knight could finish, am arrow shot through his eye. Sir Ector realizing what happened screamed "AMBUSH! Take cover!"

Suddenly a stream of arrows came flying trough the air hitting the knights and their horses. Ector jumped off his horse to dodge the arrows but his horse was hit by many and fell to its death. Then out of the trees charged large Nordic men riding on sabre cats. They let out mighty warcries as they would attack the knights that were still standing. These warriors fought like demons. Bloodlust seen in their eyes as the would kill in the most bloody and brutal of ways. They would bash, crush, slash and hack with their axes and maces. Their beast wouold attack their horses and feast on their flesh.

Amongst these warriors was the most feared and deadliest, Kalgore the Stormblade. He was seen on his battle cat holding a greatsword. With one swing he sliced through a mans armor and body cutting the knight in half. In an instant Kalgore saw the princess making eye contact before slicing through another knight like butter.

In the chaos Sir Ector stood his ground he was most concerned of keeping the princess safe. He saw one of the barbarians run up to her. But he manage to stop him in time shoving his sword through his gut. "Princess you must run! Go back to your father! We will them off!" Dir Ector was ready to fight.and die to make sure that Maeyim was safe.

She happily listened to all of Ector prattled about his childhood, and birth place. She found herself appreciating his stories as it helped her understand whom he was of a person, more and more. It explained his heroism, his compassion, and willingness to jump to defend anyone at a moment's notice. He grew all the more attractive to her as they progressed further in town.

As the conversation merged back into magic, she nodded her head as she listened. She had never been the greatest with magic, preferring to do things by hand than by the assistance of it. Though, she was not horrible at it either. With the limited knowledge that she had of magic, she had tried to perfect what she could learn. Any opportunity to learn, and master more would be invaluable to her.

With the cries of an ambush ahead, Maeyim felt her horse rear up beneath her. Cooing the horse back into submission, she was bent over and smoothing the mane of the amber beast. She looked wildly about to try and assess the current goings on. She needed to develop a game plan if she were to survive.

Seeing who the attackers were, she hitched in her breath and screamed involuntarily. The horrid Sabre Cats were running and charging the men. One man's eye had been impaled by a rogue arrow that had horridly met its mark. Steering her horse out of the chaos, she took shelter behind a large bolder. Hearing Ector yell that she should run, she shook her head at him. She needed to help, but how? She was not skilled with a sword, and the best magic that she could muster was a small shield.

Acting before thinking, she kicked her horse in the sides until it moved to a nearby tree. Jumping off of its back, she tied the reins to a branch, and ran while ducking to meet Ector. One of the barbarians' was making his way over to Ector, and only just had he missed it's sword's attack. She quicky reached him, threw out her hands, and conjured a protection spell around him. Feeling the magic pour out of her her fingers, Ector would be able to see a hazy, but somewhat glittery force field that was now surrounding Ector.

Ector was waiting for the enemy to charge but his attack was deflected by a magic forcefield this stunned the barbarian long enough for Ector to strike back. The brave knight killed his for in on swoop. A sabre cat charged him next. But once again he was protected by the princesses Magic making the beast bounce off hitting the ground hard. It would appear that this protection spell was impenetrable.

Just then the mighty Kalgore saw the knight and how the princess was protecting him. "Magji....(Magic)" he growled before he charged towards the knight. with a huge leap and his greatsword over his head he would come down striking the protection spell causing a burst of light to erupt and then the forcefield suddenly shattered into dust. He broke her spell with his sword. Ector was stunned couldn't believe what he saw. Never was it possible that magic could be stopped buy steel or force. But this hulk of a man was able to break it with one strike. Kalgore the Stormblade once again looking at the princess with the evil smile and pointing his sword at her. "Khvani printsesata. Ubiĭ ostanaloto" (Catch the princess. Kill the rest)" Kalgore demanded his men before turning back to Ector.

The knight would stand his ground. He had to act quickly though. Even if he could fight their leader the rest would still come after the princess. He had only one choice. He pulled out something from is sack and quickly Threw It to the Ground. A burst of light and smoke shot out distracting the Barbarian. He's in quickly ran to the princess taking her. "We must leave now! There is no time. Hurry!" with those words he took her back to our horse. Nyx the bird was still in his cage. He decided to release the bird taking away its blinds and allowing it to fly. It was safer to let it free so it could fly back once they escaped the danger. Not long he helped her back on the horse taking the reins."hold on tight my lady. I will protect you. Hya!" he exclaimed causing the horse to nae and run off as fast as they could away from the chaos.

Maeyim screamed as the Sabre Cat charged Ector. She was sure that he was going to be gone to her forever, but her force field kept the beast at bay. Stunned that her magick was actually working, her momentary surprise was lifted as the barbarian's sword crashed her spell out of existence. The barbarian was on her then, and threatening her with his sword. Was his blade bathed in its' own sort of magic? Nothing should have been able to pierce through her own spell like his sword has. And he was staring at her like a piece of meat. Holding up her hand, she tried to conjure some sort of counter spell, but none came.

He spoke some sort of malicious sentence, one that she could not understand. Though, the general sense of intent was gathered. All of a sudden, she was being gathered up by someone, and being pulled away from the barbarians. She wanted to kick and scream in case it was another attacker, but with a quick glance over her shoulder, she saw that it was Ector. How he had gotten away was another mystery, for another time. Then, after he released Nyx, she held out her hand to her bird as he flew off into the sky. Tears shone on her face as her friend was higher in the sky. He called back to her, almost as if he could feel her heartbreak. Though, she knew it was for his own safety. She would never forgive herself if something happened to her falcon.

As Ector prodded the horse out of the chaos, she had to grip tight on the horses reigns, for fear of flying off. The horse took off, and Maeyim was still crying. Angrily wiping her sleeve across her eyes, the soft fabric felt good on her face.
"Ector! Who are they! What do they want?" She was crying again.

Ector could feel Maeyim's sadness when he released her hawk. He knew how much Nyx meant to her. But he couldn't let it fall into the hands of those savages. He can only hope the princess would forgive him. They had to escape with great haste. Ector heard her cries as she asked him who were those attackers.

"It's the barbarians! They are after you! " he said to her as they rode. The barbarians began to chase them on their sabre cats with their leader closely behind. "Smŭrtni stalkeri! Donesi mi kozhata ot glavata mu!" (Death Stalkers! Bring me the skin from his face!) Kalgore roared like a mad beast swinging his blade in the air as he chased them. The other warriors crowed and roared in response. All of them filled with rage and bloodlust in their eyes. With their monsters as mounts they were gaining on the knight and princess.

These barbarians did not fight like other warriors. They would overwhelm their enemy with absolute terror and brutality. They feared nothing for they were fear itself. They did not just bring death. They were death. They were the Death Stalkers. Kalgore led these savages with absolute power. They would never stop hunting their prey until it was captured.

One of the Death Stalkers would throw his axe at them trying to hit the knight. But Ector would quickly dodge and counter using his bow and arrow. Turning to face his enemy he released his bow as it made it's mark. Hitting the sabre cat in the great causing the beast to crash along with it's rider. Ector being a brave knight was skilled with a bow. He would fire at the death stalkers as the princess would ride forward. "Princess we must get to the mountain pass otherwise they will catch us. It's not far but we have to hurry. We can't outrun their sabre cats"The knight spoke as he fired his arrows. The Stalkers were in high pursuit.

When Ector shot his arrow at Kalgore, the barbarian did not flinch as he let miss his face. He blocked the other arrow with his shield. The warriors eyes filled with a rage and desire that Ector has never seen. Nothing was stopping him.

Wanting to cry, and scream more, she couldn't help but wonder what the barbarian was growling to one of his men. The curt, and brash language was grating on her ears. The hellish beasts that they rode on were more terrifying than anything that the princess could have imagined. These were no cuddly kittens, Gods. As the other barbarians' joined in unison, their war cries were deafening to her ears. Shortly after, a ringing was heard in her ear.

Maeyim wanted to be useful, not just in the way and something to have to protect. She found herself conjuring her protection spell again. This time, she focused on surrounding both them, and the horse as well. She didn't want anything to happen to their means of escape and out running the barbarians and their hell cats.

Daring to turn around, she left the comfort of Ector's face as she watched the barbarians getting closer. The blood lust in their eyes were evident; Mae could only imagine the things that those eyes have seen.
"I will protect us with whatever I can muster. I think I will be able to hold the spell until we get to the mountain's. How do you fare, Ector?" She yelled over the chaos.

When the princesses eyes met the warrior' eyes again something happened to Kalgore the moment he looked into Maeyim's eyes once again. He was not filled with rage or bloodlust. What he felt for the princess was a feeling he never knew. He could sense she felt fear but.... There was something more. It made him feel something he never felt before. Something he could not explain.

Kalgore got distracted for a moment with his beast slowing down. Another arrow shot forwards him but he dodged his head in time. He focused back on the mission. Watching as you saw the princess put up another magical barrier. It appears princess to learn from her last mistake. But neither did his men has they would throw their axes and shoots their arrows. All of them deflected off the magic barrier.

Ector with his bow continued to shoot his arrows at The Barbarians. That was until he ran out of arrows. "Not good. The barrier is helping but they're still gaining. Leo forward my lady don't look back!" he replied. He now focused on the horse trying to make it go faster.

In the distance sir Ector saw a large post symbolising the mountain pass. It was The Passage through the realm of the Dwarfs. Once they pass their they would be protected. For he knew the barbarians wouldn't dare to cross into those mountains."Hold on! We're going to make it." he said. Just said Kalgore the fierce Warrior was able to ride up against send. He once again pulled out his sword that he used to shatter the first spell. With a devilish grin on his face he would slowly push his sword through her protection spell like he was slicing through butter. You looked as it the protection spell was not even there. Showing to the princess that her magic was useless against his sword.

But once again Ector had another trick up his sleeve. Similar to the flash powder he threw before he threw another sack of flash powder. This cause Kalgorse beast to flinch and made him loose balance. This gave the night enough time to take the reins and push the horse forward.

in a Flash they passed through the posts and saw the Steep Mountain Pass ahead. The barbarians stopped in their tracks. Kalgore was furious as he hauled his men. "Prokŭlni gi!" ( Curse them) " Kalgore said under his breath.

"Zashto spryakhme?" ( Why did we stop?) One of the warriors asked.

Kalgore stared at the mountain pass and growled. "Dzhudzhetata zashtitavat tazi planina." (Dwarves protect this mountain)
Kalgore knew that those mountains would be dangerous as the dwarves would set up dearly traps and strong security.
"Otivame naokolo" (We're going around) he ordered his men as they proceeded to ride off away into the forest. At last the princess and the knight escaped danger. "Thank the gods...we lost them. The Barbarians wouldn't dare to come into the mountains knowing they are protected by The dwarves. We will be safe for now."
