Hearing any other language than English on American soil is obviously going to turn you into a bloodthirsty terrorist.
Really hope you stay away from Home Depot on Saturday mornings..

Google says Home Depot is some sorta retailer and I doubt they have any shops in little Finland, which means you don't need to worry about me wandering anywhere near any Home Depot stores on Saturday mornings anytime soon.

Goddamnit.

Basically, most-everything said. I can't believe the school would kowtow and suckle the anuses of those screaming in belligerence. This was a project meant for enlightenment, not some underground terrorist/Socialist (those seem to be synonyms these days) project to recruit toddlers.

Fuck me.

Well then. I'm genuinely curious what they think the danger in hearing other languages is.

You say that as if they'd actually be able to defend that claim.

Now I can just imagine asking one of them and just watching them be completely stumped, like, "Well, I mean, you know... Arabic!!!"

Because obviously there is no rational train of thought leading from point A to point B here.

Ah, guess you wouldn't get it then.

It's fairly common for men of latino origin looking for work to stand around a Home Depot in the morning waiting to get picked up for some work. Of course it's manual labor like yard work, sod laying, ditch digging, etc. Always on the real cheap too. Twenty bucks per head for a few hours work.

Ah, I see. It all makes sense now!

Yeah, but generally there is a greater reason for irrational hate. Just because it is irrational doesn't mean you can ignore it. Clearly something is very wrong over there if an entire community rallied behind the movement to keep the National Anthem English. Knowing what that motivation is makes it a lot easier to help them behave like civilized people.

Oh, national anthem! I thought it was pledge of allegiance!

No, still seems stupid. My earlier argument stands.

Sorry, wrong. Irrational hate is called irrational for a reason. It's all the product of fear and ignorance.

Fear and ignorance, of what? I'm thinking that what they need is a healthy dose of reality and perspective. One of those larger problems I was talking about is how American mentality works. The work structure, politics, social movements, and reward system has too much to do with people taking an unwavering stance that does not consider the opposition. Being able to ignore and overpower people who you view to be "irrational", which is everyone who doesn't have the same stance as you because you have to be unwavering, is how everyone gets things done. It is easy to justify doing that to people who are unable to reason, but what if they can? What if there were a larger reason for them believing that way? What if there is a compelling reason for them to be scared or ignorant? What if we were the ones who were misguided? Even when the opposing argument is irrational, there is a problem that needs to be solved. Throwing our weight around might work sometimes, but it will also create just as many problems. I point to the American overseas strategies since such a thing existed to serve as my evidence.

I don't care if it is irrational, if its the product of fear and ignorance, or whatever it is. Problems are problems, and I'd rather understand how I can fix it if such a way exists. If people are scared, I want to know how I can make them face their fears. If someone is ignorant, they can learn. The only thing that makes these people seemingly impossible to reach is because they were set up to behave that way. Force may be necessary, but it is not right. The real long-term solution is to train people to consider. Most people are capable of it.

If we allow ourselves to believe that some people just deserve to be shut down, then that means we will never see our part in the problem, nor our part in the solution.

Oh, so I was right the first time! Cool.

Remember this?

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking of that.

I remember seeing that commercial when it was first on. I thought it was actually really nice.

And then people flipped their shit.

Of course they did.

The Pledge of Allegiance always seems to stir up trouble.

We used to do this cool salute thing with it instead of simply holding our hands over our hearts, then some Germans came around and screwed it all up.

They also ruined the swastika. It was the symbol of luck. I love luck. Stupid Nazis.

FUN FACT: Once, when I was a kid, a friend of mine drew a swastika on the back of my hand in sharpie because she said it was supposed to be good luck. And not only was she technically not lying, but I was too young and innocent at the time to even recognize it as a symbol of Nazism. So I rolled with it, and kept it on my hand... throughout the school day...

Needless to say, I got a lot of weird looks, and a few kids were brave enough to point it out and ask if I hated Jews. Again, I was too young to really get Nazism, so I was all like, "What? No, why would you think that?" all legitimately confused and such.

That was an interesting day.

I would have been hardcore embarrassed if I found out what it meant after all that.

Never saw it before. But having seen it now? I like it. :3

Speaking of all this Natzee stuff.

A friend of mine was joking with me at work over a "Master Spud". Then came lots of third reicht related puns.

Hash Brown instead of Sieg Heil for one. With the arm wave and everything.
The Final Julliene instead of Solution.

End of the shift shenanigans.
