-Shurrik Glares at the Mayor, Notices Lilirel looking as unammused as he, and walks over to start a conversation with her.

Shurik Plate 500.png

Shurrik moved his head down and opened his left eye as he heard the mayor enter. He stared at the man who had sent them into what Shurrik now considered a burial ground and a long slow breath left through his lips. He inhaled through his nose and repeated the process as he practiced the breathing technique the trainers and tutors at the Abbey had shown him. Shurrik considered the climb for a moment but then huffed back down. He had not realized that he had leaned forward and his stare had turned into a piercing glare. Those close to Shurrik would feel the push of his aura against them as it flared up and then fell again.

He sighed. Already tired of these two. The Mayor and his servant. Shurrik finally stood up from his spot when he spotted Lilirel. She looked just as disinterested in the going’s on here as he did.

Shurrik lifted his blade, set it back on its ‘sheath’ on his back and walked over to the other side to admire the scenery from another angle. He stopped next to Lilirel and bent over to lean against the railing in front of him. It was only once he was firmly planted in that spot that he opened both eyes and looked at her. “So. Are you as unimpressed with this whole thing as I am?”

He folded his arms against the railing and just turned his head outward to stare at the landscapes painted before them. “I know we had a bit of a meeting in the mine, but I’m Shurrik. Nice to meet you outside of facing imminent death.”

TL;DR: Labra is feeling bad for causing trouble, and wants to escape into the shadows again. She notices that Jeremiah isn't his normal self, and questions as to how is is. Notices that there's a good scent in the air.

Labra sighed at the fog, and smiled softly at the man who created it, but flinched at his words. "I can't help it. Females in a Swarm are separated from the males until we are of marrying and reproducing age. I'm not used to this much exposure to males, so I am deeply sorry for causing you trouble." A sad smile ghosted her face and her eyes turned darker then normal for a second. "You guys act like a family. Keep this bond forever and you will live a good life. Don't make the mistakes I made with my old Swarm." Her oddly formal tone faltered as a nice scent came into her nose. "It smells good. Why does it smell good?" She tilted her head to the side and looked up at the people gathered around her, and noticed how many there were. She wanted to scoot back, but didn't want to disturb the fog Jeremiah had made. She glanced at him, and noticed something off about him. Her mind wandered back to when she had felt an odd Chaos dip and flare in him, and wondered if that was to blame. "Mister, are you okay?" She asked, peering up at him. She then scooted back into the shadows and sat there, looking out at those who had come to help her.

The moment had been peaceful void of any distractions, Lilirel having been successful in drowning out any external commotion while also silencing the thoughts in her head. Tourmaline eyes scanned the horizon, a subtle, soft smile forming across her lips as she leaned against the railing. One of the reasons she loved going out on quests was so that she could witness soothing sights like these. But as always, with a large traveling group, the small moments like these came to an end. A figure crossed into the corner of her eye. Lilirel glancing over before taking a deep breath and straightening herself up against the rail. As Shurik turned to face her, Lily also met him. Her smile grew wider. “Hmm, did I make it that obvious?” She asked rhetorically, brow arched. “Getting stuck in tight and confined spaces with never-ending skeletal hordes is not ideal.” She couldn’t help but chuckle. “Nor is losing fellow Apostles, especially the ones that had potential.” The smile faded as Lilirel looked beyond the railing once again and exhaled through her nose, jaw clenched. “I’m aware of who you are Mister Siderov.” The soft smile returned as Lily turned her head ever so slightly to look at Shurik. “But if you wish to make it formal,” She turned to face him, her hand stretching out in his direction. “a pleasure to meet you Shurik. I’m Lilirel, Lilirel Rivermore.” Her smile remained; it was genuine.

Shurrik chuckled as Lilirel addressed him as mister. He’d never heard anyone refer to him as such. His smile only broadened as she turned to face him now. He rose off of the railing and followed suit with her movements. He turned and faced her the same way. He noticed she was only half a foot shorter than him. He had to tilt his head down to look into those dazzling colored eyes that in return looked up into his blue speckled with violet ones. “Well Miss Rivermore,” he placed his hand into hers and gave it two strong shakes. “The pleasure is all mine.” He wore a smile to match hers. “I notice my reputation precedes me. Just as yours precedes you.” He let out a low laugh. “We’ll have to swap the stories we’ve heard about one another. I’ve heard a few wild ones about me.”

As the two shook hands, Lilirel kept her gaze on the man before her. “Miss...” she uttered with a chuckle, “Haven’t been regarded in that way in quite some time.” The handshake broke off, Lilirel’s right hand coming to the side to hold onto the railing as she listened to Shurik and gazed off to the side again. “When you’ve been an apostle for as long as I have, you get to know who comes in and out of the Abbey.” She smiled briefly and looked back up towards Shurik. “I don’t recall the last time I paid attention to a story or rumor that revolved around any of my monikers.” There was a small chuckle from the woman. “But I think I’d enjoy listening to your stories. I find the way beings perceive others rather interesting. If I can remember any stories from my past I can always attempt to share as well.” Lily smiled with a small nod.

TL;DR: Knell just listening nothing more.

Knell's eyes dimmed as the Mayor talked about the ones that had died. Her head bowed, her fists clenching as she remembered them all. Even the innocent one, Llawr, was gone, and it made her heart ache all the more. Why do people have to die? Even if she was Death itself, she hated it. She hated the fact the ones she loved had to die. And she wanted to take their place no matter what. But she knew she can't...and it tore her that she couldn't save them, even with her power over death.

With a sigh, she just listened numbly as she stared at the Mayor, not really paying attention to anything around her. Even if her fellow Apostles were talking, she wasn't listening, only focusing on the Mayor just listening to him talk. She was still bitter, her family had died, but she had not. Why couldn't it have been her? She hadn't a clue. And yet...just escorting? No information? Her thoughts kept playing around and around as she listened, just keeping her fists clenched numbly.

Euthalia Apricot

TL;DR Euthalia confessed to Labra, then checks up on Estella.

Diana's reply had yet to come, while Labra mumbled something general towards them. Euthalia didn't quite grasp it, as the Sylvari didn't exactly have the same ideas about family, let alone that they'd have a concept of 'swarms' like the moon Imps had. As for why it smelled good, Euthalia would confess guilt. “That'd be my doing.” She figured she'd also be honest about the why of it. “It seemed like it'd calm everyone down, and I didn't want to wish to leave you harmed.” Considering Labra hadn't really reacted to anything Euthalia said previously, she figured it'd be best to just leave things at that.

However, there was another target nearby; Estella. After all, Euthalia had carried her out of the tunnels not too long ago, so she was wondering how the girl was doing by now. “Ah, Estella, how are you? Did you manage to recover from expending so much of your magic?”

TLDR: Jeremiah is pissed at the inaction of multiple Apostles, feels better from Euthalia's scent, we find out he plays for both teams, as well as about his family.

Somehow, Labra's words, Diana's question, and some other's inaction seemed to enrage Jeremiah further, prompting him to speak further, although his words came out in a snarl he actually meant. "My family were a bunch of shitheads. They did not and still do not care about anyone but themselves, and the Clan. They took the one being that kept me with them, and laughed in my face. You can cut family out of your life if they behave like monsters!" Though....really, no one else had come to help, which meant he had to do everything himself, like usual. "Though some of the Apostles are not proving that point, as they are clearly not helping, and I'll be fucking dead again before they do something useful." Sometimes they were fucking useless, and only Euthalia seemed to be attempting to do something useful. It's like they wanted him to waste his magic on only helping Labra, while they stood around, asking if he was ok or just chatting with each other like a bunch of gossipy old women.

With undisguised viciousness, he ripped the thick, woven tablecloth off of the metal table, rushing over to drape it over Labra, just as Euthalia had let out her calming scent. The scent hit his nose, and in response the tension seemed to leave his body at once- kind of like when he was in the dreamless sleep, and for the first time since he had died, he felt...alright for once, leaving in its place something that had shown itself only sometimes at the Abbey- his libido. There were a few Apostles that caught his eye, and he didn't discriminate. Ren, Lilith, and Shurik were quite beautiful and handsome in his eyes, as their strength and personalities seemed grand to him, along with their strong physiques. Diana was like a mother to him, and Labra was like a little sister to him. Euthalia...he wasn't quite sure about her yet, so she wasn't on either list. Zayne was pretty enough, but they hadn't interacted enough to really be a cause of interest. If he had forgotten anyone...well they either hadn't replied, or were dead.

Breathing it in, he seemed to relax, and at last he could pull his Chaos away from from the fog, dropping it so his reserves wouldn't be drained any further. He kept breathing in the scent, not wanting the anger and frustration to come back quite yet. He stalked away before coming back with a plate of sandwiches that had been recently refilled with sandwiches. He stuffed one sandwich at a time in his mouth, talking at Labra with his mouth full.

"Sorry Labra. I haven't been doing great at all, and you're literally burning up in the sunlight and no one seems to give a shit. Though you leaned up against Zayne. You didn't catch him with making out or something. You didn't even touch his privates. I could get the reaction if that was his nuts, but that was his chest." Jeremiah explained himself, still stuffing sandwiches in his mouth at a frankly alarming rate. It wasn't excusable, but he could still explain his reaction, now that he was calmer.

TLDR: Labra is shook after she gets buried in a tablecloth, accepts Jeremiah's apology, thanks Euthalia, then asks for a sandwich from Jeremiah.
A strangled shout escaped Labra as a tablecloth enveloped her small form. "Ack! Why-this thing is huge!" She found the edge of the cloth and picked it up, peering out at the others. "Jeri, why?" Her new nickname for the Apostle came out as she squinted. "Thanks for calming him down, Euthalia. Remind me to find you a moon flower sometime." She then turned her attention back to Jeremiah and listened to his...apology? "You're good. Partly my fault for getting so flustered." Labra motioned for him to lean down, and reached out for a sandwich. "Can I have one? Please?" She pointed to the sandwiches and turned on her puppy eyes. A pleading look filled her eyes and she pouted slightly, knowing what usually swayed people's hearts.

TLDR;

Shurik watches the Spectacle from Jeremiah
Makes more conversation with Lilirel and makes a motion to find some better drinks somewhere.

Shurik Plate 500.png
Shurik chuckled at Lilriel’s response. “Of course. I’ve heard a little about everyone here.” Shurik placed his palms against the stone railing and leaned his weight back against them. The commotion from Jeremiah caught his attention for a second. He watched the tablecloth leave the table while at the same time avoiding a catastrophic spill of items all over the veranda. An expert pull of the cloth, mostly reserved for party tricks he thought. Though he didn’t understand the fervor in which he then used to cover Labra with it. But it all seemed to die down as Euthalia released a scent. It smelled nice, he thought.

When everything calmed down once more, he looked back to Lilirel. “None of them? I mean, I don’ blame you. Some of them are rather strange. Have people expecting you to have permanent horns that are 5 feet tall. And not to mention 10 feet tall yourself.” He let out a small laugh. “The biggest one I’ve heard is that I was born a Feral Child to an Abyssal Mystic. And that I am also ten feet tall with the ears of a dog ina size to match.” Shurik shook his head. “Maybe we can find a spot with something a little heartier to drink. These fancy glasses don’t suit me well.” Shurik inclined his head towards the exit to indicate his intent. “I think the rest should be fine. They seem to be getting along well enough here.”

Stella stayed silent when Jeremiah helped Labra, her mind spiraling into a mess of thoughts. It was her first time seeing someone who was, to say, allergic to light. She didn't know how to feel, as she was a user of light, and she didn't know if her light would be painful to the little imp or not. Her thoughts were put on a pause when she heard her own name being spoken. She blinked and looked over at Euthalia, a small smile appearing on her face. "I'm alright, although still a little tired. It was my first time using that much magic in one spell." she spoke, remembering that Euthalia was releasing calming scents. She closed her eyes for a few moments, and took a deep breath, taking in the calm scents and allowing it to help her calm down. Although she didn't know if she would hurt Labra, she made sure to be careful with her magic near her, making a mental note to make sure to ask Labra about it when Labra is more comfortable with talking to her.

Euthalia Apricot

TL;DR Euthalia thanks Labra and continues talking with Estella.

Euthalia figured she'd amp up the calming scents a bit when Jeremiah went ham on family, Apostles and tablecloth alike, which she was glad was effective. After a while, he returned with sandwiches. All Euthalia had to say to the guy was to calm down, but considering her scents had already done their part, she figured she'd leave him be for now. She didn't want to undo her previous efforts by getting him angry again after pointing out he was being quite rude.

Instead, she opted to respond to the now table-clothed Moon Imp. “You're welcome, and I'd love that.” Truth be told, she wasn't exactly sure what she'd do with a moon flower, but it was the thought that counted, and the thought was pretty cute. She'd happily accept it.

On the topic of pretty cute, Estella replied. Luckily enough, the girl was doing better. “That's good to hear.” She figured she'd also go ahead and say what had been on her mind during her time in the tunnels. “Yes, your light was very useful in the tunnels, and it might be partially due to my species, but it is a type of magic that is oddly fascinating to me. Did shaping light the way you do come natural, or did you find a way to learn it?”

TLDR:
  • Lilirel is curious about the commotion
  • She continues to speak with Shurik
  • She agrees to leave with Shurik, asking to avoid 'The Stout Keg'

YY53pcY.png

As Lilirel witnessed Shurik glance back at the new ruckus she found herself also turning to look over her shoulder once again. Peculiar. What had gotten into everyone all of a sudden? Listening to the words being spewed by the sea-creature, Lilirel raised a brow and narrowed her eyes. “So easily irritated.” She muttered. Jeremiah had always been an odd fellow in her eyes, then again, who was she to judge? They all had their little quirks, didn’t they?

The soft scent of lavender came through the air, surrounding them all. It seemed to cause most, if not all the tension to fizzle. Something Lilirel was grateful for. There had been enough tension recently, they all deserved some time to relax and collect themselves before moving on. Short-tempered or not.

Shurik’s voice returned to her ears, the raven-haired woman turning to look back towards the man she had been conversing with. “Well I wouldn’t say I haven’t paid attention to any of them.” She chuckled with a smile. “I just don’t really care for most of them, to be frank.” She explained, her smile remaining as she knew just how absurd people could be with the rumors they chose to spread. “Is it considered strange when said story, or description I guess, is surprisingly close to the truth?” Another small laugh. “Although, I can’t really recall the last time commoners witnessed that.” Lilirel made a face as she muttered and attempted to remember. Her finger came up to tap at her chin before she shrugged and brushed the thought aside. Her attention back on the man before her.

The aasimar couldn’t help but laugh slightly as she looked at Shurik. “The ears of a dog? I wonder why that detail is so important that it needed to be mentioned in this person’s story. Also” she tilted her head to the left slightly and narrowed her eyes “are they supposed to be pointed up? Like a wolf or floppy like some sort of mastiff? Is the rumor due to the fact that you’re just a large, follicly blessed man or was there some sort of incident in which you acted in a rather canine-esque manner?” Her questions were genuine. “I find rumors and stories that sound so absurd to be interesting. I like to think about what or why someone would come up with such an idea.” Her smile lessened. “The ones that are intended to intimidate, or instill fear are the ones I tend to ignore.” She clenched her jaw and looked towards the horizon for a moment before letting go of the railing,

Tourmaline eyes returned to blue irises as she nodded. “They’re all adults,” she looked towards her fellow Apostles “for the most part.” She chuckled. “I’m not too worried about them. I also don’t believe we are in any rush to leave this town just yet, and I agree, a nice hearty drink would be much more enjoyable.” Lily pushed off the railing. Taking a couple steps before halting and turning around. “Although, I would like to avoid ‘The Stout Keg’ if possible. I’m sure there are more taverns we could make our way towards.” Lilirel nodded before turning around once again.

TL;DR:

Shurik tells the others to send him if they need him without telling them where he is going
Shurik continues his conversation with Lilirel as they walk.

Shurik Plate 500.png

Shurik let out a low laugh at her questions and rubbed the back of his head. “I don’t know where the Stout Keg is, but we can see if we can find another place.” Shurik pushed himself from the railing and caught up to walk beside Lilirel. He gave a short wave to the others and called out “Send for us if anything happens. Or don’t. I have faith y’all can handle yourselves.” He chuckled and folded his hands behind his head as kept in step with Lilirel as they walked into the building.

He closed one eye as they went along and continued their conversation. “Not too strange. There are always some truths ina story.” He curled his lips into a smirk. “The commoners always witness something, even when they don’t. Somethin’ about being a part of it.” Shurik looked to the walls as they entered the mayor’s home, a sigh passing through his lips as he shook his head. Dwarves could horde as much as dragons.

“The ears aren’t the important part, I guess. Others say I grow a tail, or my hands turn into talons.” He touched his ear with his left hand and made sure it wasn’t pointed. “According to the one I’m speaking of, floppy dog ears.” Her comment on his hair drew a short snort from his lungs before he laughed. “I know I wasn’t able to shave in the cave, but is it that obvious?” He now rubbed his face to feel the bristle of the stubble. “I’d like to chalk it up to grammatic drift as the story spread. When I enter my state, my eyes will change to a random animal’s pupils.” He sighed. “And I guess it’s very canine-esque that I follow one command very single-mindedly. Like a dog.” Shurik tilted his head back and then rolled it along his neck to the left. “I could not tell you where the animal trait transformations come from. I don’t actually have the ability to transform anything.” He let out a small huff from his nose.

“I tend to ignore the intimidation and fear ones, also. Though they are good for keeping the riff-raff down when you’re around. I tend to have fewer problems with people who’ve heard of my rage than those who think I have a tail. Each one has its merits, I suppose. The tail is said to be absolutely adorable.” Shurik shrugged his shoulders, laughed, and folded his hands back behind his head as they continued their walk through the manor and made their way towards the streets. “I only got a passing glance of this city as I was catching up to you all in the mines. So hopefully you know this place better than I, or we might get lost.”

_____________________________________
TLDR;
> Is confused about Labra's reaction after waking up. Attempts to get up but falls back down after finding out he's still recovering energy.
> Speaks up to the Mayor about if he can give nothing else after helping the town with two different problems now and losing so many Apostles. Also indirectly targeting the town.
_____________________________________

Without a response from Stella on his question of how the other Apostles had been after the events in the mines had occurred, Zayne did not push the woman for an answer in case it might've been a tough subject to speak of at the moment; aside from that, just taking a glance at his surroundings it did not take much for him to guess what had happened to the others. Lowering his gaze to the ground as he only kept silent to wait for the next time for when the Apostles would start to move once more.

Moments passed as the Moon Imp had finally begun to wake from her slumber only to react in a rather strange fashion only to start apologizing for some unknown reason to him as well as stating how he was warm, before he could so much as respond to her rapid apology, the petite female stood and made her way over towards a pot where she had sat herself down and buried herself to hide into her sleeve. 'Eh? What..was that about?' Questioning himself mentally, right as he had began to notice the Moon Imp begin burning however, he was prepared to stand and approach her yet paused as Jeremiah had already made his way over there to convers with her along with a few others as well.

Still, even with the other Apostles there Zayne felt as though he should've apologized to the Moon Imp for some reason that she rushed herself over towards the pot suddenly and allowed herself to be harmed; wondering if he did something wrong. Just as he stood however, his body quickly jolted as he sat immediately back down as though some force had pushed him by his shoulders to sit once more. Bringing both his hands up in front of him, he clenched his hands into balls of fists several times only to shake his head at how his body hadn't recovered completely yet. "I still don't have my energy back yet...Jeez, what the hell.."

After cursing himself for still being in the form of a child, the sudden arrival of the Mayor had Zayne's attention upon other Apostles directed straight over towards the older dwarf who spoke of thanking the Apostles for the assistance with the mines as well as how there would be yet another guide this time to lead the group through the mountain to make the trip through the mountain much easier rather than require the Apostles to climb.
While the thanks were appreciated and the compensation of having yet another guide lead the Apostles through the mines yet again to make it easier to traverse across the mountain, Zayne couldn't seem to get over the fact that after everything that occurred the Mayor was simply just going to give the Apostles that and act like that everything else that happened was nothing.

"Apologies Mister Mayor...but, I must ask. Is that all you plan to give us in return for everything we have done for this town? Not only have we defeated the threat lurking within the mines but we have dealt with the Chaos storm that threatened your town when we first arrived...We have our own task at hand as well sir. We have lost many of our comrades, many of which we have known for years. We did not have to assist you on these problems of yours, we did so out of our own good will. Can you not give us something more than simply a guide? Your previous guide into the mines was near useless and was almost killed if it were not for us...we did not even reach the end of our destination with the help of your guide.."

Although Zayne was in the form of a child and every word he spoke sounded just as that of a child was speaking them due to his tone no longer having that of a grown man's voice. It was not difficult to tell that he was upset about the situation the Apostles were currently in as well as it indirectly attacking the town itself for how it treated him before he became an Apostle and now he was helping the very same place.

Tl;DR: Ren watches the drama, then seems unsettled when Jeremiah brings up the word 'family', seems to lose control a little and leaves to guard the entrance
Ren startled a bit when Knell put her hand on Ren's head, but quickly leaned in when she realized it was just Knell. Ren nodded along to the other apostles words, putting a sandwich in her mouth as she listened.

"I will do as asked. Mayer's Words are too tricky for me. I'll smash whatever you say needs smashed."

Ren watched the Mayer in question off a path through the mines -which Ren wasn't thrilled with- but it seemed like there was no other choice. Ren chewed her sandwich thoughtfully.

"Can fix Bad if you don't mean it, Jerimicha. We are together, yes?"

Before she received a reply, Jeremiah moved to cover up Labra. Ren wasn't really sure what to do, but she noted that he was worse off than she had seen. Mmm. She'd have to stash extra sandwiches for him. Everyone had it in hand, and with two of the Green People in charge of helping, Ren would easily do more harm than good.

Ren watched Knell take in the information and the drama, but say nothing. Ren thought for a moment, then extended a hand out to return the head pat. This seemed to help people sometimes. They liked to do it to her, so it was fair game.

Listening to Jeremiah yell about family, the words just bounced off the edges of her periphery. Ren stood up.

She closed her eyes and took a breath. She walked towards the group, put her hand on Jeremiah's shoulder and tried to speak, but the words wouldn't come. Anyone paying attention would notice frost creeping up from underneath the bandage on her face. Her hand was even colder, and she left a little bit of frost on Jeremiah's shoulder. As she realized how worked up she was, she let go and moved away.

"I am sorry Moon Imp. I will guard the entrance."

Family.

What is family? Family? The Abbot said she had none, but didn't explain it. Family? Was that like a food? Or was it something less tangible? Ren didn't understand, but when it was brought up a tightness in her cold chest happened and she became unstable. Like she was missing something so crucial to these people but she hadn't grasped it.

For now, she would sit outside and watch the Villagers. You can't trust Villagers. Wolfe always said Villagers killed her before and would do it again in a heartbeat.

TL;DR: Labra gives up on quest for sandwiches, notices that Lilirel and Shurik have left, thinks some deep thoughts, moves back to the shade, and thinks more deep thoughts
Labra peeked out from under the tablecloth again, abandoning the quest for a sandwich and instead turning her attention to the two giants who carried swords. The tall lady whom the Imp had rode on for part of the mine adventure, and the guy who liked to yell a lot during battle. They seemed to be going somewhere deeper into the caves that housed the dwarven city. She waved at their backs, noting that their two human tanks were gone, and that the man had yelled something about calling for them. Using her ability to find a person wouldn't work if they were underground, so the team would have to find another option to find them if duty called again.
That thief...I wonder if my ability would work? Is the person nearby or far? Night or day? Many mysteries have sprung up because of one guard who didn't do his job correctly. What is the relic we are hunting anyways? Must be important if Lord Abbot sent this many of us to find it... The Moon Imp gathered up the folds of cloth surrounding her and struggled to get back into the shade where the younger Phoenix was sitting, staring at the Mayor. She sat down and burrowed out of tablecloth, squirming and twisting to shake off the last of it. A heavy sigh rushed out of her mouth and she turned her head to glance at the Phoenix once before slightly blushing again and shook her head. Get a hold of yourself! You never acted this way around the other males at-wait. He looks weak. Did I cause a strain on him? Oh moon fungus, I hope I didn't. Yet another way of how I shouldn't be underground or in the sun. Hm, the girl from before, the one who was there when I woke up, wasn't she the one who lit the caves? So could she be considered a sun of sorts? Would her Chaos harm me and mine? I need to ask her about that later. Lost in her thoughts, Labra sat down on the tablecloth and stared straight ahead at nothing, her eyes blank and the only sign of life was her chest rising and falling in small movements.

Taruhm Veranda

The sun's brilliance moved behind the peaks overhead that shadowed Taruhm and also brought some relief from the sun. While the veranda was comfortable before for most, the sun moving behind the mountains was a welcome relief as it still provided plenty of light but without the same intensity that was harmful to some. With the passing of the sun, lunch had concluded as well.

Finishing his meal, the Mayor instructed Toby to take things away, which the man was prompt to do with a precise step. Serving girls followed and were quick to take away everything the party had finished with so they had more room to stretch out as they wished. The Mayor, having already wiped his beard lounged comfortably with a dark drink in hand similar to the one he had in his office the other day. The dwarf then gave Zayne his piercing gaze and undivided attention with a stern reply,

"Taruhm shall not be said to be ungrateful. I have given and will provide what was agreed upon in my office the other day. If the Apostles feel more is required, let us discuss if we can come to additional terms that are agreeable. However, I will not tolerate anyone speaking poorly of our people, and especially, not Foreman. The dwarf nearly died guiding your party so you may route the enemy from the mine, or so I'm told. His efforts were nothing short of heroic. Perhaps you Apostles forget that any threat you face could kill a normal mortal 100 times over."

Zayne would recall that the tenants of The Way encouraged humility and contentedness. Asking for additional rewards that wouldn't directly benefit the party in their mission may negatively impact his ability to use and regenerate his Chaos. He would have to proceed with care. Additionally, his comments about Foreman seemed to have agitated the mayor since Foreman's only task was to guide the party to the source of the problem in the mines, which he succeeded in doing despite the dangers the party faced.

Elsewhere...

Those leaving the veranda would find the town of Taruhm much as they had left it: a castle fortress built into the side of the mountain range. The streets and alleyways were all narrow with only the main streets being large enough for carts to roll in on. The town was made up of several levels with shops and homes dispersed between them. The cramped quarters of the town made the streets feel more crowded than they typically would be in a normal city.

Warm, with smells of body and animal mixed with filth, and irregular breezes, the inner town was not as comfortable as the veranda, but defense was the focus, afterall. The thick white walls that made up the town's extieror and ceiling were thick and the only light allowed in was through thin arrow slits. Most of the streets and homes were lit with other means like torches, candles, or burning minerals.

Despite the poor lighting, the Apostles going through the town would stand out and their fans were vocal. Those not to fond of the Apostles would give them wide berth so as to not dry unwanted attention. At the mayor's decree, businesses were also supposed to offer reasonable service and product to the Apostles as needed.

TLDR:
  • Lilirel and Shurik continue to chat as they make their way to whichever Tavern they find first
  • Shurik interacts with a local child.

“Surely we can find another Tavern. The Stout Keg is where we first stayed upon arriving to Taruhm. Those of us that didn’t need to be rushed to the medical quarter.” Lilirel explained. “I’m not quite sure what transpired that eve. I had quite a few drinks and woke up next to our darling light bearer.” She smiled as she glanced towards Shurik. “She assured me that we had a great evening. Whether that is true or false” Shurik raised an eyebrow and threw her a sheepish smirk as Lily shrugged “it doesn’t matter. I know I must’ve done something more as the locals and workers from the tavern itself were not very pleased the moment I reappeared. I’m not one to care much about the thoughts and opinions of others towards me, I simply wish to avoid the negativity that I feel will come from going back there.” The woman continued explaining.

“That makes sense” Shurik responded as he started to rub the back of his head again. “I’d be too curious to know what happened. Did I start a tavern brawl? Did I take home the barmaid? Was I singing on the tables again?” He let out a snicker to himself and then sighed.

“I won’t lie, I am curious to know.” Lilirel chuckled. “But I think it may be best to simply avoid it all.” She spoke simply and quietly.

“Hopefully news of whatever you did didn’t spread to the rest of the taverns. Otherwise, we’re definitely going to have fun finding somewhere to drink. Maybe the competition of the Stout will give us better brews because of what happened?”

As the two eventually made their way into the Mayor’s home, Lilirel listened to Shurik and what he had to say about stories, how there was typically truth within them. An accurate statement, considering that a story couldn’t exist without something to speak about. “Mhm.” Lilirel expressed with a subtle nod in regards to Shurik’s statement about certain stories helping to keep the populace in control when the protagonist of said rumors was present. A chuckle followed as the aasimar looked towards her fellow apostle. “Is it now?” She jokingly asked regarding the imaginary tail. Her eyes shamelessly dropping to the man’s behind. “Are you sure it’s the tail they’re talking about?”

Shurik nodded and turned his head to look at Lilirel, then followed where her eyes had drifted when he saw she stared elsewhere. She narrowed her eyes and couldn’t help the small laugh that escaped her. Shurik laughed with her and shook his head. “Lilirel!” He said with his mouth agape as he threw one of his hands against his chest. “I can’t imagine what you are insinuating!” This only caused him to laugh more as they continued their walk.

Eventually they made their way out of the manor. Lilirel grinning as she gazed ahead. “I didn’t do much exploring of Taruhm myself. I just know of the singular tavern to avoid.” Another chuckle as she shrugged. “So what if we get lost? The others will find us or, we’ll figure out how to get to where we need to go. The perks of being a seasoned adventurer. You always figure out how to carry on.” She explained and looked around. Her smile still bright.

Shurik nodded his head a few times in agreement and then started to look down the streets in front of them and beside them. “I can’t argue with that logic. I think the Stout Barrel is that way.” He pointed up the street on their left. He held there for a moment as he considered which way he pointed and then clicked his tongue to confirm with himself. “Yes. That way. So, If it is agreeable with you, Miss Lily. May I call you Lily? I’d say we head the opposite way here.” He drug his finger through the air in a short arc and pointed to their right. “And see what kind of trouble we can get into as far away from that one Tavern and the Mayor as we can get.” Shurik matched her bright smile and for a moment lost himself as he stared at her.

“You may call me Lily, yes, that is acceptable and preferred to other monikers.” She gave a slow and subtle nod with a chuckle. “I think the opposite direction is a safe bet.” she agreed and looked in the direction Shurik was now pointing. “Yes, we do tend to find ourselves getting in trouble unintentionally don’t we?” She turned to look back towards Shurik who had gone silent, their eyes locking. A swift moment passed before she decided to speak up. “Is everything alright Shurik?” She showed worry in her eyes briefly before looking over her shoulder. Was something happening? Was someone or something rushing towards them? Her confusion showed as she looked about a little frantically. Was she missing something? Turning to look back at Shurik, Lilirel walked over to his side and attempted to spot what he was seeing from where he stood. “I’m not sure what I’m looking for.” She muttered.

Shurik snapped back to himself as Lily spoke and the wheels in his head spun. She started to look around and Shurik chuckled to himself nervously and rubbed the back of his head with his left hand. “Uhh. It was nothing. Nothing to worry about.” He looked at her as she moved beside him and gave her a wide smile. “Nothing to look for, Just lost myself in thought there for a second, should we keep moving?” Shurik spoke in a flurry of words before he started to walk forward toward their determined direction.

As they walked, Shurik kept an eye out around them and took in the sights of the town around them. Everything was bustling in the mountain fortress it seemed. Most people still kept their distance from the obvious outsiders and probably known Apostles, but there were the rare few who approached them and said some words of thanks. Shurik merely nodded at them and gave them a quick smile before proceeding slowly ahead.

Shurik stopped for one curious youngster, though, who had approached him. “Woah, Is that sword really real?”

The Apostle chuckled and nodded. “Of course, small one. Apostles can’t fight evil with fake weapons, can we?”

The child nodded. “Can I hold it?”

Shurik held in a scoff as his eyes looked up towards who he assumed were the boy’s parents. They looked at him and nodded so Shurik shrugged and removed the sword from his back, setting most of it on the ground and placing the hilt in the child’s hands. “Ready?” He asked.

“Yup!” the ecstatic child returned, and Shurik released his grip on the blade and let the kid hold the full weight.

To his surprise, The child with both hands on the blade was able to keep the sword from fully dropping on the ground. They looked strained, but the sword didn’t drop. He only let go for a couple of seconds before he picked the blade back up and released the weight from the kid’s arms. “My That was impressive.” Shurik slung his blade back onto his back and nodded. “Not bad, Kid. Maybe one day, you’ll be swinging around a chunk of metal like this.”

Lilirel had remained silent for the most part as the two walked along. Like Shurik she paid attention to the onlookers, those that were intrigued by the presence of the Apostle’s and those that chose to keep their distance and clear a path for them. Had she not heard Shurik respond to the child Lilirel would’ve kept walking. Stopping in her tracks she turned and smiled as she caught the interaction between the two, hands on her hips. Glancing towards the youngster’s parents, her smile softened as she nodded slightly towards them before bringing her attention back to Shurik, waiting to carry on.

Euthalia Apricot

TL;DR Estella vanished or something, so Euthalia switches targets. She first backs up Zayne with the Mayor, then heads out to try striking up a conversation with Ren.

As Lilirel and Shurik left, Euthalia replied to Shurik's greeting with a knowing wink. “Alright, have fun you two~” She was well enough aware of human mating behaviour to know where the sudden leaving of an adult woman and equally adult man, whom seemed to be getting along quite well, would lead. She'd give them a wave and returned to the business at hand.

Said business at hand was another unfolding scene, that of Zayne talking with the Mayor. It seemed he was trying to ask for more resources, and Euthalia could see why, despite how much she'd missed during the previous encounters. She figured she'd shortly step in, exchanging her scents for a smile. “My apologies for any rude behaviour on our part, mister Mayor, some of us are still a bit stressed from these past events. Although I arrived late, it's easy to spot how many Apostles have gone missing, have died, were injured, or have damaged equipment. Although nothing can replace the lives that were lost, being able to repair, refill, enhance or strengthen our equipment and being allowed to restock all of our supplies would truly aid us in our quest. It would also make sure that we'll have no need to feel reserved were we to encounter similar situations in the future, for we would know that these delays would at least not harm our chances of fulfilling our main duty.” She was silent for a short moment, before continuing. “That is all I wished to say, I'll gladly entrust this case to the goodwill and generosity of Taruhm.”

With that said, she'd be off, unless the Mayor made it clear he wanted her to stick around. If the latter wasn't the case, she'd head for her next target, Ren, whom seemed to still be rather worked up about the previous conversation. Although Euthalia had next no knowledge about family, she figured she'd still see if she could strike up a conversation with Ren, leaving the veranda to find her. After a bit, she spotted the girl watching villagers. “Ah, there you are~” She said with a smile. “I don't think we've properly introduced yet, I'm Euthalia Apricot~” Considering Ren seemed to stay out of the heat while Euthalia loves standing in the brightest sunlight on the warmest days, the two hadn't met all that often, if at all. “Forgive me if it's rude to ask, but I've been wondering about this for a while. Why do you wear such an odd contraption on your face?”
