Correction: The biggest guns carried on a submarine were the 8 inch (203 mm) duel mounted on the French submarine Surcouf (also the largest sub until the Japanese I-400 series) which was at the same time the usual size of heavy cruiser guns. 40 cm (15.7 Inch) guns were the largest ever carried on a naval vessel and were issued to the Yamato class of the IJN.
