Have you ever wanted to play an OC from an anime, or perhaps an anime inspired you with a character idea that wouldn't quite fit into their home universe? Well, the Anicademy will be for you! Perhaps you have some unique ideas that you want to play with?

The Anicademy, built in the last bastion metropolis of humanity, is a long-established combat academy; it trains students to fight the creatures of the world, and keep the people safe from those who would harm them. Their duties begin from the very first day, with the student teams being given patrol days alongside classes. The powers that students exhibit come from a variety of sources, and come in many forms. The only thing that matters is that they use them to defend the peace.

If you have any questions, or interest, please post and let me know! I'll do my best do answer! I will post my character below, but don't feel like you must make your character already! Only if you want to, interest is enough!
Anime Inspiration: Yugioh/Card Games

Name: Zothar Alvrenum
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Appearance
Powers: Has the ability to summon creatures, weapons, and effects from the cards of various games.
Equipment: Deck Holster, Card Binder

Personality: Zothar is shy and nervous most of the time, and is never seen anywhere without his cards. He doesn't like conflict with friends, and has often been taken advantage of, but hates injustice and can throw himself to defense without a second thought. He sometimes talks to spirits of his cards, which will look like him mumbling a one-sided conversation.

History: Zothar did not come from a good home. His father was a drunkard and his mother would bring home any guy she wanted. Living on the poor end, Zothar fell through the cracks and eventually nearly broke. It wasn't until a friend at school introduced himself to cards that he found a light in life. In addition to his friend, he found that he could interact with the creatures in the cards. Since then the young man had collected all the cards he could - but it was one fateful day when his powers fully awakened.

He came home to find both parents dead, a debt-collection thug had gotten a little to zealous. Thinking that selling a kid would help make up for the loss in revenue, he came after Zothar. The young man screamed and suddenly, one of his favorite creatures appeared and blew the man away. Scared now for his life, and of himself, he ran to find his friend - whose parents took him in.

Four years later, after many odd jobs getting money for more cards, the academy scouted him out after a rather messy breakup of a bank heist. At his friend's urging, the now eighteen-year old accepted, ready to learn how to control these powers he had, and how to help more people.

Absolutely. What kinds of power levels are you thinking of having (anime is all over the place) and what sorts of themes would you be going with? Is this going to be primarily light/slice of life stuff or more on the dark/heavy narrative?

Well, that's not the easiest question to answer. Definitely not as over-powered as DBZ and such can go, but I don't want to limit power types. We may also experience power creep, like as we train we just get more and more powerful.

I am thinking we could do both. Some good and fun bonding/training in school, along with patrols killing monsters and beating evil and probably dealing with a main plot.

DBZ is pretty crazy, but I'm also thinking stuff like One Punch Man and My Hero Academia. They have a lot of middle of the road characters and then some completely world breaking characters. Or like Haruhi Suzumiya. It's just so I have an idea of the scale we're talking about so I don't create a character that either has to get nerfed like crazy or gets completely overshadowed by other, more powerful people.

Sure, that's cool with me. A lot of anime go that way, starting out relatively light and getting heavier/darker as they go along. Maybe not as much as PMMM but well.

I find power level one of the hardest things to by myself, but easier when discussing with others. I can tell you for sure that I do not want Saitama. No offense to the guy, but I feel even for the person playing him might be boring, cause he always has to show up late.

Digression aside, I'm thinking that we want our powers to be on the middle of the road area. At least at the start. Zothar's power, for example, is to summon monsters and weapons from cards, like if Yu-Gi-Oh was an ARPG(?). As he grows, he'll probably be able to summon stronger things and even the weaker things will be more powerful. (Also he needs weapon training to use equipment cards)

Does that help at all? I'm trying T.T

I'm not sure how super dark I'll go, but I'm hoping to have a good amount of progression for characters and story.

Btw, what's PMMM?

Yeah, that does help. I know it's hard, especially when a lot of anime isn't super consistent with itself regarding character feats. A lot of stuff you see on screen doesn't match what they say about it. Like, in Saint Seiya the Gold Saints canonically move at the speed of light, but nothing they actually do matches up with that description - I mean, you'd create an extinction event if you punched the ground with a fist at C.

On that note though, I'd actually be interested in playing a Saint, but again that depends on how you want to cap the power levels. I have a character written up who's literally an incarnation of the Avalokiteshvara Boddhisatva so....

What he said. It gets really, really dark at the end of the story. Lots of characters dying and so on. I won't spoil it but it kind of rewrote the magical girl genre....

Just like the Flash, who moves at the speed of plot!

But yes, I want to say that technically any anime can be used as inspiration, but power levels may make that tougher. Honestly I wouldn't mind Zothar being one of the weaker ones at the start, especially since he probably doesn't have the confidence to truly use his powers.

I also wanna say you could write up your character and we could talk about it, but I could understand if you don't want to do it that way. If you tell me maybe more about what you want for powers and such, we can discuss limits?

I've got a writeup that was nerfed for another roleplay so I can post that as a starting point.

If you feel comfortable with that! :)

Name: Kushinata
Universe: Saint Seiya
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Occupation: Saint-warrior
Age: 15
Clothing: Tang-dynasty style court robes
Equipment: Virgo Saint Gold Cloth armour

Kushinata is a Saint-warrior, the personal bodyguard to the goddess Athena, who protects humanity and the cosmos from the depredations and ambitions of other gods. As such she has superhuman athletic ability, although in her normal attire she is unable to make full use of it as the stresses are too great for a mortal body to withstand. In her armour she is capable of moving at superhuman speeds and is resistant to anything less than heavy weapons, although things like lightsabers will cut through the armour with some difficulty, so she can parry such strikes with care.

Kushinata's attacks rely mainly on disrupting the interface between reality and her opponent's consciousness, whether through illusion or the actual wiping out of their senses. They can cause immense psychological or even physical trauma as the opponent is convinced that they are being transported through the 'six realms' of Buddhist cosmology. However they can also be resisted by someone of immense willpower and self-belief. Her ultimate 'attack' is known as the 'clear mirror', which simply reveals to her opponent the entirety of their kharmic debt - this is sufficient to drive the weak-minded mad, or to inspire something of a conversion experience akin to when a Darkside-using Jedi atones. Kushinata can facilitate this by using her ability to take on kharmic debt, suffering the consequences of the evil rather than allowing it to befall the evildoer. Her only weapon, such as it is, is a long silk ribbon with small silver bells on its ends, which she uses to bind and distract opponents; it serves more as a focus for her mind-affecting powers than anything else.

Kushinata is an avatar of the Avalokiteshvara Buddha, otherwise known as Kannon (Kwan Yin), the Goddess of Mercy. She is gentle, compassionate and patient; she is also a total pacifist and constitutionally incapable of wishing harm on anyone. She always seeks a peaceful solution to any problem - to the extent of sacrificing herself - and only uses her powers to defend those who cannot defend themselves. She deeply regrets any damage she causes in the process, although it is (in her worldview) but the inevitable result of the bad kharma of the wicked.

This does not, however, make her divine. Kushinata is very much a human, and a young girl at that. Despite uncanny wisdom and knowledge for a child her age, she is still somewhat naive, especially with regards to the intentions of others. She often gets frustrated and hurt with the wilfulness of those who behave selfishly.

In appearance, Kushinata is a classically beautiful Asian girl in the first blush of womanhood: fair, fine-featured and slim. She is almost always dressed in diaphanous ceremonial robes, and bears a small statuette in one hand - this is the Gold Cloth of Virgo, her armour, which transforms into its full size and envelops her when necessary. She smells of lotus blossoms and sandalwood incense, accompanied by the sound of the silver bells on her ribbon (which she wears draped across her shoulders like a shawl) and anklets, and her expression is usually serene, with eyes half shut in 'mindfulness'. She has a gentle sense of humour, a sweet, clear voice and a winsome manner.

If she were to confront Obi-wan Kenobi she would not fight him, seeing the nobility of his soul. Facing Darth Maul, she would be able to defeat him in most situations, although if he activated force rage it might well be able to penetrate her illusions, in which case she would be nearly helpless before him.

@Ariel

So, forgive me if I'm totally wrong, but her powers are illusions and misdirection basically? I could be missing it but I'm not sure what could be considered OP

It's all about context. ;) The Virgo Saint is generally the most powerful of all 108 of the goddess Athena's Saint-Warriors; the 12 Gold Saints are all canonically capable of moving at light speed, and have attacks that include literally throwing meteor showers at the opponent, dropping their body temperature to absolute zero, or conceptual-level BS like "cuts anything". In canon, the Virgo saint Shaka fights three other Gold Saints to a standstill and is only defeated when they perform the proscribed combination attack Athena's Exclamation... so yeah, it's pretty much tossing around Weapons of Planetary Devastation.

If this is all a bit too much, I can go with someone from the TYPE-MOON universe - a user of the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception.

Hoo boy.

So WPDs are probably too powerful, and that wiki link was just a word-vomit, which I would have trouble understanding at the best of times xD

I'm sorry, I'm trying

Heh, no worries. I'll shelve Kushinata, and work on the other one. The wiki's a bit opaque, but essentially Mystic Eyes of Death Perception mean you can see the lines of weakness in any object, and if you trace those lines (with a finger or an implement) the object will fall apart without resistance; most also have a point where the lines meet, and if you strike that point it'll disintegrate - this applies to living beings as well, who die when struck.

Yes, I'm sort of attracted to playing flawed, vulnerable people with incredible power. Does that say something about me...? ;)

Isn't it pretty powerful to be able to kill or destroy anything in almost one touch? Or am I misunderstanding something? Trying to balance Zothar and that power in my head and I'm sure it's possible, just blanking.

Also, Zothar is also very hurt. I want him to have a ship xD

Kind of, yeah, although there are plenty of limitations, depending on the universe. You have to touch that point precisely, and it doesn't work against incorporeal beings or immortal or otherwise "perfect" beings.

But I do see the issue. In that case, I have a kitsune (fox spirit) crossed with St. Alia of the Knife; or a classic meguca specialised in frost magic and obsessed with becoming renowned; or I could create another character, though that might take a while more. Let me know what you think would work best.
