Alex looked a little surprised, eyes wide. "uhh...okay...sure. I'll join." He said recovering quickly. "It'll return the favor you did me last night." He said, holding his hand out to shake in agreement.

Becka broke into a smile. "That's all I am asking for." she said, shaking his hand. "It's at lunch, on the practice courts back by the soccer field."

Alex nodded. "See you there then." He said, half-smiling. Her enthusiasm sort of scared him, but he hid that factor.

"Thank you." she said looking directly at him. "I'll let you get back to your music." she added standing up and weaving through people back to her chair. She let her head fall back a moment grinning from ear to ear, before pulling out her phone to text Lacey Game on!

Alex shrugged and plugged his headphones back in, sitting back and relaxing again, his head nodding to the beat as he planned his day. Go home..shower...study...change...lunch...volleyball..God that word sounds weird.. He chuckled to himself. Never once would he have thought Volleyball would be on his daily schedule. then shower...change...work...sleep. got it.

Becka sat hunched over on the bleachers rolling the volleyball between her hands. Half a dozen other people had already arrived and sat chatting waiting on the rest. Becka had started regretting the decision that sabotaged her own team about 10 minutes before when she realized she was the only one present used to ignoring Alex in all his fame and glory. They will be self-conscious or flirting or showing off and no one is going to focus on the game…except Lacey’s team, they are all athletes and can probably hold it together. Lacey glanced her way and cocked her head at the pained expression on her sister’s face. Becka just widened her eyes making them bug out in response, before deciding to put on a fake smile at least. She didn’t have long to figure out how to pull this together, her high expectations had collapsed. “Who are you waiting on?” Someone asked. Becka tried to ignore the question but they persisted “Just Brittany and Alex.” She replied, but they were curious. “Alex who?” Let the drama begin she thought “Alex Vine.”. Suddenly he was the only topic of conversation.

Alex drove up to the edge of the parking lot, parking in the nearest space and jogging up to the entrance. He noticed Becka and came over. "Sorry I'm late.." He wore a t-shirt and basketball shorts. "Had to change." He smirked. "This our competition?" He asked, looking at Lacey and the team.

“The beasts themselves.” Becka replied glumly, but she was looking at her own teammates who had lowered their voices as the football team captain approached. “You ready to play?” she asked, passing the ball to him as she dropped to the ground beside the bleachers. Like most of the others she was wearing an old t-shirt and running shorts, but she kicked off the sandals leaving them under the bench.

Alex nodded. "Ah. Yeah, I'm ready." He glanced at the team, a flicker of annoyance in his eyes at the fact that he knew they where whispering about him, but he smiled, waving a little at them before turning, closing his eyes a moment and sighing. "Let's get this started." He said, holding the ball back out to Becka. He had no idea how to play...but he would try. It was better than not trying at all.

“Oh you’re serving first.” Becka shook her head at the ball he held out “that way it doesn’t matter if they get the point; but if we do, all the better.” She was so distracted worrying about her team that she had forgotten Alex never said he could play.

Alex tilted his head slightly. "Uhh...Becka.." He started. "How do you serve?" He gave her a slightly confused look and several girls giggled, making the look wipe from his face, replaced with an expressionless sigh.

She cursed under her breath grabbing the ball. “Hit it with this part of your hand” she showed him, “try to aim high because the ball is going to drop, just like with throwing a football.” She added. She tossed the ball into the air hitting it onto the court. What else doesn’t he know? She pointed to the lines dug into the mud around the court. “These are the boundaries, but it’s really only the back one we have to worry about playing against varsity. Only hit the ball 3 times per side before it has to go back over. And if it’s out of bounds WE say you can hit the ball twice in a row. We play first team to 17 wins, best 2/3. Random I know, but it works.” She picked up the ball from the mud and tossed it back to him, pointing at the back corner, “Give it a go.”

Alex listened carefully, nodding every so often as she spoke. He glanced at the court, memorizing the boundaries so he wouldn't have to watch where he was going. "Okay..I think I got it." He said as he caught the ball. It drops..just like throwing a football. He repeated in his head the words she said, moving to the back corner, not minding the mud. He did exactly as she said, throwing it into the air and hitting it with the right part of his hands. It soared over the net and landed. He looked at Becka, tilting his head slightly, hoping for approval.

Becka spun around her brown eyes glaring and envious but she was smiling. “Ok let’s play!” she shouted at the other players who were busy gawking at his achievement. Lacey threw the ball back to Alex and everyone spread out on the courts ready for a very interesting and messy game.

Alex smirked, rolling the ball around his hands while they got ready. When it looked like everyone was ready, he repeated the movements exactly as before, this time hitting it a little left so it wouldn't be in the same exact place. Then, he waited for the return, glancing around the team to see if they where paying attention. He knew Becka was, as she wasn't..like the others. He sighed. He hated being so...popular, honestly.

The ball lobbed back over the net and Brittany reached out bumping it to Becka who set it back to her for a swift spike down on the other side of the net. It was a perfect shot, Lacey took the first dive to keep the ball in the air and her teammates sent it flying back over the net towards Alex. Everyone on the team was suddenly holding their breath, slow motion could not have made the moment more suspenseful.

Alex watched the team's movements, planning in his head how he should adjust to hit the ball right. The next thing he knew, the ball was hit in his direction. He pushed up, hitting the ball and sending it towards the net. He bit his lip, praying it went over. Please make is over please make it over please make it over please don't hit the net please don't hit the net He repeated in his head, though he looked perfectly calm and confident. The moment the ball crossed the net he sighed, smiling brightly as his achievement.

A collective cry of delight pierced the air as it passed above the net. The ball was hit only once before it flew back over the net and none of the girls managed to even touch it before it plopped into the mud. Becka closed her eyes taking a very slow breath, “Well, now we know Alex can play, come on let’s bring it.” She called over her shoulder. Normally she was just as excited as everyone else for a good volley, but this was not normal, He doesn’t need cheerleaders.

Alex rolled his eyes at the cheers, but kept his mind on the game. He was glad he learned to adjust so quickly, or he would have missed the shot by a mile. He kept his eyes on the ball, ignoring the girls and listening to Becka. She was the captain, right? He sighed. "Pay attention to the game!" His voice called out. Whether that would do any good or not, he had no idea.

“Thank you!” Becka exclaimed. He is a team captain, he knows how this works. She turned back to the net just in front of her nose and smiled. They passed the ball under the net and back to the corner where Lacey served it, hard, towards the same spot it had just landed. This time two of the girls moved to hit it almost knocking each other over before it bounced off into the air, still on their side of the net.
