Zanis urged himself on feeling that he was winning because Cain was now tucking himself forwards, almost as though rolling himself into a ball of sorts. But this intriguing turn about belied the nature of what this beast was actually doing. Cain rose his head and roared. It was defiance that screamed out. Defiance always had away of making things a little...unexpected. Its hands thrust down wards as if to catch itself from being crushed flat. Most things would have been, except his skin was showing signs of further development. His mutations were coming out more and more the longer this battle was prolonged. His skin started 'sweating' a gel like substance that steadily hardened into a tough, protective, semitransparent 'shell' that cloaked his body. It was much similar to an insects chitinous exoskeleton armor.
It was a polymer of nitrogen-containing polysaccharide. A complex carbohydrate composed of a chain of monosaccharides joined together by glocosidic bonds. In its unmodified form, chitin is translucent, pliable, resilient, and quite tough. In arthropods, however, it is often modified, becoming embedded in sclerotin, a tanned proteinaceous matrix, which forms much of the exoskeleton. In its pure form, chitin is leathery, but in most invertebrates it occurs largely as a component of composite materials. Combined with calcium carbonate, as in the shells of crabs or mollusks for example, chitin produces a much stronger composite.
In this case, as Cains body morphed slowly before the two infected's eyes, and as incredible as it may have seemed--what they didn't see, what had been yet to be revealed was was just as dangerous as his skin hardening to, ironically, soften or cushion his internal structure from the outside forces enacting on him. However, because the gravity warp was on focused on him and not the entire area, it allowed Cain to sow the seeds of Zanis's death. One of his palms had split open like a mouth, and dug a tendril under the earth. At its end was a sharp point like a like a lance. Another distraction came when a third limb sprouted from Cain's backside. Atfirst, it was human like but as it grew and grew it became monsterous in size and Cain let this massive had, as wide across as five feet be dropped like a falling anvil; split the ground right underneath Zanis. The sinuous vine appearing tendril sprang forth from the rock to Zanis's side, just as he had turned to try to glance in embedded deep in his ear canal.
Cain had already found out the infected Zanis's weakness to his gravitational control. He had meant to go for his ear. Zanis couldn't control gravity if he couldn't first stabilize his self to direct his energy. To use his power he had to anchor himself and 'pull' a gravitational field down over a given point. No equilibrium, no way to control his power. The tendril sprouted hook like protrusions inside his ear. Latching on to the small bones. Zanis writhed wildly screaming before he shakily grabbed ahold of the vine and began pulling. Thee bones were ripped out when it was tugged free leaving the man a bloody mess.
Zanis was still alive. But Cain hadn't moved yet. Then, his body started to brown, and harden. The extra limb simply...fell right off and he shed his armored skin and stood back up right. He no longer was dis-proportioned. No, Cain was bigger and yet, different. The massive clawed hand had regrown into an equally sizable limb. He lumbered towards Zanis who was now undoubtedly, half deaf. He was seen trying to crawl away from the nightmare behind him. Unfortunately, he never made it. Cain stomped once on his lower back, breaking it in several places. He still was not dead, but couldnt move anything but his eyes now. Cold, hard claws gripped the back of the mans nape. Zanis rolled his eyes up instinctively staring up at a monster before it tore his spine out with his head still attached and roared loudly. It discarded the head and Cain tore one of the arms off like the leg of a well cooked turkey beginning to devour the remains.
