Description

Much to his misfortune, Matthias did not inherit his father's tall build. Instead, he fell somewhere in the middle with his shorter than average height and stocky frame. His childhood scrapes and scars are few and well healed thanks to his mother and her advanced Bioalchemy. The only noticeable blemish to his otherwise clear canvas is a ragged brand across his left pectoral. If you look closely, one might see the various runes tattooed onto his fingertips and hands, which aid in his Bioalchemy application.

Matthias has a stunning blue gold gaze that has wooed one too many women in the past. He is very open about how he's feeling, and is thus very easy to read when upset or overjoyed. When excited, he'll talk too fast, and when nervous, he'll fidget with his hands. Matthias finds no shame in letting others know what he's thinking, but when asked about personal topics he will do his best to avoid them. Getting close to him is hard, but a loyalty well earned.


Identifying Features: A brand on his left pectoral, reaching to his collar bone. Don't talk to him about it. Matthias will never be seen without a small ring on a silver chain around his neck.

Personal

Personality: Emotionally, Matthias is an open book. His face reads easy, and his mouth speaks the simple truth of what he is feeling. Growing up in a large family had the effect of eliminating his feelings of shame or need for secrecy. Matthias appears charismatic and generally very open on the surface, and does his best to keep his inner worries away by maintaining a positive attitude. He is incredibly determined once set out on a task, and will do anything to see a job well done.

On deck and in command, its as if a switch flips. Clarke is demanding of his crew and won't take no for an answer. Leaving men behind is out of the question, and Matthias will fight tooth and nail for each and every one of his men.

History: First born to a brilliant Bio alchemist and commendable Captain, Matthias was raised with all the love and affection any parents could give. He grew up as the eldest to a large and happy family, with no qualms to open affection and no room for secrecy. Even as Insurgents, the large Clarke family found peace in the coastal city of Ludwick running a moderate hospital with the renowned Bioalchemist Joanna Clarke at its head. His father, Nathaniel Clarke, was often gone, running supply missions in Mirefield for the Insurgency, but there was no lack of a bond. Matthias was close to everyone in his family in his own way, but his brother Oslo was his closest friend. From the time they were toddlers, the two did everything together.

When Matthias turned 18, that even included finding them work on a small crew running small recon missions near Lindon. Despite his family's pleas, they both left to pursue their careers as Insurgency Air Navy members. The crew got too close to Lindon, and they were captured and sent to a research facility run by an exemplary Alchemist known as Annalisa Verdenelli. Matthias seldom speaks of his time there, or how he came to escape with Kinglsey Lee. Shortly after returning, Matthias found out his father had been killed in one of his resupply trips. Even with the loss of their father, the Clarke family was grateful to Kingsley for bringing Oslo and Matthias home, and would always consider him family.

From then on it was a blur of rising through the Insurgent ranks. Members often commented on Matthias' obsessive fascination with the five Alchemical Sources, but most were impressed with his natural skill in Bioalchemy. It has been ten years since Matthias and Kingsley's meeting, and Matthias thinks of him as much a brother as his own siblings. He would do anything to repay the life debt he owes Kingsley.

Description
Taller than average with broad shoulders and a muscular build, Lee suits the stereotype of the brawny Earth user quite well. Callused hands marked with the scars and stains of his chosen profession mark him more precisely as a smith, and when combined with his general build, it's easy to assume he does heavy work like sword and tool smithing instead of the more precise tasks (like gunsmithing) that he prefers. Overall, Lee carries himself well and behaves normally, though he's had tendencies to guard his deeper feelings since he was a boy and even the friendly and open Clarke family couldn't get him out of those habits. His eyes are a striking and unusual green, sharp and pretty and hard to read. He gestures grandly while speaking, but tends to be mindful of objects and others around him. His expressions are easy to read and his tells are simple to catch onto (lip chewing when he's hesitant or nervous, fingers tracing scrollwork onto nearby surfaces when he's thinking, et cetera) but one gets the impression that he only gives away what he wishes to with these quirks and habits. His guarded nature isn't meant to offend or done out of desire to hide, it's merely a defense mechanism he's made use of since he was a boy.

It's worth noting that it's easy to peg Lee as ex-Republic; even after his ten years with the Insurgency, his clothes and belongings are kept far neater than necessary and he tends to sit too stiffly, stand with perfect posture like he could be called to attention at any moment, and walk with the measured confidence of an officer. Lee's done little to curb these habits, figuring it's easier to be as obvious about his history as possible to avoid the drama of keeping it secret from the ever changing crew.

Personality: To say Lee has developed as a person since he joined the Insurgency is to make a vast understatement. When he was with the Republic, he was a quiet and dedicated individual, someone all work and little play who was far too used to being on his father's leash. His defection forcibly cut that leash, and over the next few years Lee tested his limits (and the patience of others) trying to figure out who he is without the strict rules of the military and the overbearing presence of his famous father. Now, he's settled into a polite if not quite sociable state, cocky about the things he knows he's good at (metals, smithing, guns, shooting guns, smithing guns, drinking) without being as obnoxious as he was in times past. He's just as receptive to a challenge, however, and just as easy to rile up if you hit the right buttons. That said, he subscribes to the "live and let live" manner of dealing with others; as long as you listen to direct orders, don't mess with the Nerissa or her commander, and leave his shit alone, Lee won't have too many issues with you. No matter what your opinion of him is.

History: The son of a prominent officer of the Republic Military and an Earth-aligned professor of the Oxholm Academy famous for her skills with rune crafting, Lee's pedigree and credentials read like he should be some kind of Republic poster boy. He was raised amongst Lindon's elite, did very well in school, graduated from Oxholm with a surprising proficiency with smithing at only twenty one, made first lieutenant in the Republic Air Navy before he was twenty three...and abandoned the Republic soon after his promotion. He'd been stationed at a lab in Lindon run by one Annalisa Verdenelli, and it was there he met Matthias Clarke. Neither of them are particularly keen on detailing how exactly it happened, but Lee ended up aiding Matthias and his younger brother in escaping then followed them to Insurgency-controlled Ludwick, where he eventually joined the Insurgency. The ten years since have been difficult, given Lee's origins and parentage, but there's nowhere else he'd rather be than at the Major's side. Matthias is a brother to him, and he's utterly loyal to both Matthias and the Insurgency.

Esther was raised as an orphan until she ran away from the orphanage at nine years old. She'd ran many times before, but they always got her. While she was on her own, she rummaged for food and clean water. She'd often get sick and throw up from contamination in the sustenance. When she turned ten, she met another orphan like her who wanted to be the captain of an airship one day.

The two stuck together like two peas in a pod, but after a few years, she decided to leave the boy who taught her everything he knew about surviving. Despite her sincere appreciation for how safe he made her feel, she didn't believe she was worthy of his affection. Esther made the decision to secretly go on board an airship that was planning to head to the Insurgent capital. She didn't understand the risks of sneaking on board.

At age sixteen, Esther was caught hiding in the stock area of the ship by a Republic private who came down to get some canned goods. Instead of taking her to the General like a good boy, he decided to teach her a lesson about going against the Republic. Esther was left hidden and unconscious. A few days before arriving to Bexley, the airship's alarm going off stirred Esther from her sleep.

The airship was smoking and heading down into a deep descent on a large hill near Ludwick. Esther wasn't noticed until the airship crashed and the crew members who managed to make it in decent shape found her bloodied and bruised from the impact of the crash. They sent her off to the the nearest hospital in Ludwick where she would stay for a while and slowly get nursed back to health.

Things seemed to burn a little brighter after she fully recovered physically, albeit traumatized emotionally and mentally. Esther cried for days on end, wouldn't eat, and everything she once thought she knew about life was over because there was nothing she could do in her situation. Esther tried to run away from the hospital because she felt they were giving her more than she deserved.

Matthias was the first she'd come to understand on a mutual level in a long time. He was the son of the woman who ran the hospital and the young man that'd given her a reason to step out of the darkness and do something with her life. She was taken in by Matthias' family and taught how to read and write by his Mom. Esther slowly warmed up to the family, but wasn't reciprocal to his so-called friend.

A better life was built for Esther regardless. She went to school and although she graduated from secondary school a little later than most, she excelled in science and mathematics. Esther went into a small academy for a couple of years after to hone her air affinity and made a beeline straight for engineering school after that where she'd learn about airship mechanics, various terminology, and equipment.

When Esther graduated from post-secondary school, she was presented an opportunity to go on an adventure. She was pig-headed at first because Kingsley was the one recruiting her, she eventually agreed to join Matthias and him on their adventures. Now, Esther has been a mechanic on board for a few months now and despite the rocky relationship she has with Kingsley, Esther enjoys being a part of something.

Physical

Izabella is a natural gymnast, with a thin but tall frame, long legs, and just enough muscle to even it all out. She has a slim, athletic build with not much curve and shoulder just slightly broader than her waist. Her ash brown hair is choppy and short, and she normally wears it down or french braided to the sides of her head with her bangs pinned up when she needs it out of the way. Her eyes are dark green with a gold ring around the pupil, and they always have a mischievous glimmer to them. She normally wears comfortable clothes like cargo pants, a thin shirt, and a vest.. Biography

History: Izabella was born and raised in Lindon. She grew up with her sister, Zora Levitskaya, and her father, Aleksander Levitsky.

Izzy frequently snuck out of her home at night as a teen, usually going to practice fighting with a group of friends. While she was doing this, she got a few small scars, but the most noticeable is the short scar on her collarbone that was obviously deep and jagged when it was fresh. She learned a lot from her little gang, and eventually, when she was seventeen, she grew tired of her father and sister. She stole a small sol with three friends, Sasha Selakova, Umber Rose, and Langdon Hayle, and the four of them ran away to the Insurgency.

As soon as she reached the Insurgency, Izzy joined the crew of a small airship called the Polaris as a private and began work her way up the ranks. Soon after being promoted to Second Lieutenant, Captain Adrien Wonderall kicked her off the Polaris, finally fed up with her . . . Well, her everything. The very same day, she found out about the openings on the Nerissa and jumped at the chance for a new adventure, and even better, a new crew that had no idea what bringing her into the ship really entailed.

Personality: Truly a man with endless passion and strength of will, Wylan fronts himself as easily swayed but hides a mental core of iron. Wylan is decisive and determined. Some might even say dogged. Whether it is work or play he will imbue all of his considerable fervor into a task until it is completed. He tends to overload himself and burn out if no one reminds him to be mindful of his physical and mental health.

Always idealistic in nature, challenges often arise before Wylan in the form of social and political issues. History: Humble beginnings taught Wylan humility at a young age. His home rested upon the outskirts of Lindon in an abode one might liken to a shack. Food was scarce and clean water was a luxury sought after daily. These conditions were exhausting for every member of the Josten family but there was no dearth of love. Affection was traded freely and there was never any question of loyalty.

Wylan's parents toiled through their sweat and tears to give him a befitting education. With the mental and physical fortitude he developed from dirty work, Wylan proved his abilities during his schooling. His natural affinity to air was established at a young age and he poured his energy into cultivating his skills. He studied at Oxholm Academy for a few years before being recruited to the Republic Military. Wylan's heart was not in it however and his mental state quickly declined. He escaped the Republic's clutches with a trio of other deserters after finally coming to the conclusion that he could not live if he did not have a purpose he believed in.

From there he took steps to cultivate his alchemy and make connections with other people in the Resistance. Eventually he found himself working up the ranks of the Insurgency. As an Airman First Class he wishes to board the Nerissa in search of a cause worth devoting himself to.

I'm glad you like her! I think I am just about finished with her now, but I might add more later on. She's definitely the adventurous rebel type, and I'm excited to start writing her.

Roger Road has light skin and has a decent build one would expect someone to posses having been trained as a soldier at one point in time. Has a rough and scruffy beard atop a strong jaw line with a contrasting more well kept head of light brown hair. His eyes are also a light brown. He's of around average height and weight for a man his age.

His attire commonly consists of a modified Republic combat uniform that consists of a classic Airman blue trench coat, dark gray shoulder guards (one with the number 44 in white on it), Metal black helmet and tube gas mask (Doesn't always wear it), Dark green pants, dark brown leg guards and light brown combat boots.

Further Description includes his charge pack upon his back with is inscribed with arc runes along with the tube that travels up to his custom built battle arc rifle which he's also inscribed with arc runes. Upon his hip also rests a loosely tethered sheath which holds a simple straight edge machete; also inscribed with runes of both fire and arc. Finally, he also has a couple of soda can sized canisters strapped to his trench coat as well which he commonly either inscribes fire or arc runes on different ones. (Not being a proper mechanic or engineer most people of either occupation would probably wonder how he got any of these things to work properly. Roger's secret being that he knows good parts from garbage and probably a little luck along the way.)

Identifying Features: Nothing out of the ordinary aside from the number 44 on his shoulder guard. Said number actually being the number for the outfit he was to help fill in the ranks of after he finished the initial training and was fully initiated.

Personality: Despite ever growing older Roger Road simply isn't the man to stand still for long and is a bundle of energy. He's almost always upbeat, social, cheerful, cooperative and smiling; it takes a lot to put a rain on his parade. He's fairly free spirited, always living to see the next day with high hopes of being better than the last and for the excitement of adventure wherever the skies may take him. The man however does have a little mischievous side from his younger days as he doesn't feel much pity from stealing from others and treats it more of a joke as he did what he had to survive.

History: Roger left the orphanage he was raised in when he turned seven and completely lived on the streets by himself. Funny enough he'd actually denied the name the orphanage game him and instead took the name of the street he lived on called "Roger Road" as his own first and last name. He slept in alleys, eventually making one his home for awhile some thrown away wood that he made a little shelter with at the back of the alley. He'd beg at times for food and the such but of course got most of his food from stealing. He'd get his fair share of bruises and beatings but it was worth it once he found out where the most fresh stuff was thrown away and when.

When he was eleven years old he came across a girl who seemed to be living on the streets as well. Call him a flirt but he had to admit she was cute and he could only imagine if she was as lonely as he was. So, he decided to start helping her out one day out of the blue with a big smile on his face. He showed her where he'd found some of the best spots to get freshly thrown out grub and even some spots for scrap wood and scrap metal; along with a few other things he'd picked up in order to survive. He even made the alley he lived in a place to sleep for them both as a made another crude wood box for her. Times were alright, it was wonderful to have a friend to talk to. He'd even tell her that he dreamed of being the captain of a ship one day; wanting to sour through the skies with his own vessel. He always preferred to call her Esy, the nickname he decided to give her. He could never quite tell if she liked or disliked it.

After a few years however one day the girl disappeared and for the first time in a long time Roger felt pain in his heart. His only friend was gone and he didn't know where she went. Left with little choice as he reached 21 years of age though he had a plan; Roger Road enlisted into the Republic armed forces. He studied well enough to be pushed into the Air Navy and did well in his practices of Alchemy as he was continually trained throughout the years. He learned the ins and outs of most aircraft though only ever had direct control of a sky bike. The rest were just on paper and in tests and schematics. At 25 years old, in fact the exact day he turned 25 in the evening Roger Road took some equipment, his combat gear and his favorite sky bike from the hanger and sped away into the night instantly becoming a traitor to the Republic. He never wanted to truly join the bastards but there was truly no one better to steal from and boy did his four year plan pay off. Hey, he even got a bonus of becoming a minor celebrity with the bounty that got placed on him within the week.

Up to the current day at the age of 26 Roger had been hearing about some guys looking for recruits on a decent sized ship; hearing that they were with the Insurgency. To Roger Road that sounded like a golden opportunity for him and the best he had since the other option he had at the time was search for good scrap to sell.

Please decide between Air or Water (Ice) and I'll be happy to accept her! Due to the high amount of Air Affinity users, I would be happy to see you go with Water - but it is completely up to you.

Personality: Owen is a total sweetheart. He loves anyone and everyone and can talk to you as if he's known you for years. Always a ray of sunshine, he never has a lack of a smile to give to someone. Any time anyone around him is sad, he will go out of his way to either make them happy or even just get the smallest of smiles. However, he is quite blunt and doesn't sugar coat the truth. It is how it is, and he makes sure everyone sees that.

When he gets absorbed in his work, he becomes quite reclusive. While tinkering on whatever happens to be in front of him at the time, he will ignore pretty much anything going on around him, totally focused. He doesn't speak when spoken to and only mutters incoherently to himself. If interrupted, he gets quite irritable and potentially sassy towards whomever it was that managed to snap him out of his trance.
History: Owen grew up in Lindon with his father, famed and respected engineer for the Republic, Carlisle Garland, his mother having passed while giving birth to him. With just his father to take care of him, Owen quickly found an affinity for building and tinkering with things. His early years were filled with his helping his father's tinkering and repairing of various machines. When he was of age, however, he joined the Academy to study Air Affinity to assist in his technological endeavors. Unsurprisingly, Owen ended up graduating top of his class within just a few years as he devoted all of his time to learning and experimenting. After his graduation, his father arranged for Owen to leave the Republic for reasons that Owen isn't completely sure of himself, but didn't question Carlisle as he held all of Owen's trust. With his father's help, Owen made his way for Mirefield in search of an old colleague of the old man.

History: Aleja was born and raised in Farnworth. From a young age she was taken with chemistry. One of her dreams was to create compounds that could potentially further the abilities of people's affinities. She studied the subject extensively until the day her worldview changed. The Farnworth Disaster. A chemical experiment gone wrong and her family gone because of it. Aleja left the Republic at the age of nineteen with no one at her back. Her love for chemistry was not extinguished but her loyalty to her government was.

Under the guise of being a worker on a merchant ship, Aleja traveled the country of Netima as an independent insurgent. She would blow up Republican held bases and rescue captive Insurgents. Her work was primarily done solo but she would team up with a small elite force of like-minded people when an occasion called for it.

The unrestrained usage of her Fire Affinity and explosives resulted in the moniker "Fire Cat". Aleja's reputation built over the years and she's sought after by both the Republic and Insurgency. To the Republic she's a wanted fugitive -the Insurgency however, want to give her a job. She feels safe working for herself though and is wary of being under anyone's control. Befriending Wylan opened her mind to the possibility of one day working with the Insurgency.

Personality: From a young age, Fia displayed a keen sense of intellect, able to think on a deeper and more philosophical level than most children. She's intuitive, relying on her own experience and wit to solve everyday problems. Like many others, she is also quite curious, happy to explore even the most outrageous of ideas for its own sake. She's gotten herself in quite a few binds because she decided to test the flammability of various objects. That being said, she is not without practicality. When faced with a true challenge, she can apply herself rather well, coming out with a solution that is usually doable and efficient. She has a hard streak of determination and ambition, having her eyes set towards the future and its possibilities. If she puts her mind to something, she won't stop until she's done.

That being said, every person has their flaws. While determination can be good, she has a tendency to cloud her own judgment for the sake of her goals. While not inherently cruel or misguided, she has a habit of disregarding those who are not her friends, making her seem rather selfish to her acquaintances. She can also be rather impatient with people, making her a rather horrible listener at times. All of these traits make her come off as somewhat arrogant, self-absorbed in her own success. It doesn't help that she has a rather fond appreciation for sarcasm and vulgarity.

One noticeably good trait about Fia is her sheer energy and self-confidence. She doesn't care much what others think, and she will gladly put down a good book to spend time with people. In this way, she's actually rather extroverted, able to feel at almost complete ease even in the most social situations. She's charismatic if nothing else, able to get others to listen to her even if they don't like what she has to say. She has a tendency to speak in rather flamboyant gestures, especially if she's particularly excited. To her friends, she is unfailingly loyal. While she doesn't give a damn what you say about her, she would gladly risk her own reputation for the sake of someone she cares about. If she were to have any other redeeming qualities, it's the fact that she doesn't particularly care what your reputation is. You just have to prove that you can keep up with her.

History: Fia Russo was practically bred into the Insurgency, raised only by her father. Her mother was nowhere to be found, and he rarely ever talked about it. She quickly learned to dismiss the subject herself, deciding that it was better left unsaid. She was taught from a young age how to fly, as her father was the successful and well-regarded Captain Darwin Russo of the Insurgency. She absolutely adored it, feeling more at home in the air than on the ground. Darwin and Fia were like two peas in a pod, relying on each other in a world that was less than peaceful. He always called her his little hummingbird, and she returned the affection with a snarky quip. People would often note that the two seemed more like old friends than father and daughter, and the description was never far off.

By the time she was sixteen, Fia had found herself working officially under her father as an airman. All the while, she cultivated her skills with her Affinity, becoming increasingly adept as the years went on. She greatly enjoyed her lot in life at the time, not seeming to understand the dangers that lurked around every corner. It wasn't until death stole her father from her that she fully realized what it meant to fight the Republic.

It had been an ambush, and there was no hope for survival. If not for her father's desperate bid to save her, Fia would have died along with him and the rest of the crew. She was rescued after two days of wandering near the wreckage of her father's airship. She didn't cry much, but she didn't take to the air again for two years following his death. She might never have done so, were it not for the invitation to the Nerissa. She had nearly refused Clarke and Kingsley, but in the end she relented.

One attribute she did appreciate however, was her wild curly hair that she never restrained with barrettes or head bands. Her skin is a golden brown mixture that she inherited by her umber skinned father and her peach skinned mother. Despite her father trying his hardest to keep his daughter from harm, Bee has multiple faded scars on her body from excursions she took to attempt to 'help' others or just getting into scrapes with the other Perlentor kids.

Personality: Bee can only be described as being 'underfoot'. She always wants to lend a helping hand even if she has no clue what the task is or whether she has the necessary skills to aid a project. She has a perpetually sunny disposition to the point of being irritating and she constantly suggests that people look on the bright side. She's pretty old fashioned and respects her superiors, sometimes to the point where it seems phony and condescending.

That being said, she isn't always all sunshine and rainbows. Like all human beings, she has the capacity to have bad days and when she does, she becomes cranky and despondent. On occasion she will sneer behind a superiors back or perform tasks in a roundabout and childish way just to irk them. When she gets over her little mood however, she'll do her best to make up for whatever bad feelings she brought about.

History: Bee's father, Mohammed always hoped that his daughter would settle down with a nice miner and live a simple life in Perlentor where she was born and raised. However deep down, he knew that his daughter had a brighter and more exciting future to look forward to--although he tried his damnedest to derail said future. As a miner, Mohammed tended to interact with other miners and not the others in town who had more 'clean' professions. The children of miners tended to be rough around the edges and hardy while other kids were soft and more likely to run screaming to their parents then brush off the dirt and plow forward. Mohammed thought that as a parent, he would prefer his child to run with the children of his peers but when Bee was born he knew instantly that he wanted her dealing with 'kinder' folk and so at a young age, he introduced him to the child of his supervisor.

Bee and Marigold were friends for a total of eight days before Marigold said something snide about her dad and Bee bit her. Thankfully Mohammed's supervisor withheld no hard feelings.

After that Mohammed's attempts to integrate Bee into 'better' society was thwarted by his daughter who preferred her kind over the dainty kids that her father wanted her to play with. After six years of trying, Mohammed finally gave up and Bee was better for it. When she had played with kids like Marigold she had adopted a pessimistic attitude and had something bad to say about everything in her life, but when she started playing with other miner kids, she became happier and a much nicer kid.

As she grew, Bee began to show interest in working in the mines. Mohammed hated his work as a miner and the work was starting to affect his health badly. He didn't want his only child to be exposed to such a life and to distract her from his decision, he enrolled her in the local private school to hone her earth affinity. The only issue with that was that the school most catered towards the children of non miners, as those were the ones with enough money to buy resources for their kids. And unfortunately, the little stint where Bee bit a kid may have been forgiven by the parents, but the kids had taken it upon themselves to alienate the miner girl to the fullest extent possible.

School was difficult for Bee and not just because she was bullied for being lower class but also because he father couldn't afford a lot of the textbooks needed so Bee had to go the extra mile to keep up with her studies. However throughout all of this Bee maintained a bright smile and a sunny disposition because everyday before she left from school her father would beam down at her with pride in his eyes and he'd always tell her, "You're destined for great things." In truth, Bee never really wanted to go to school but she wanted to make her father proud and hated seeing him sad so she never told him about the abuse she endured at the hands of her peers.

So it broke his heart when Bee was expelled for beating the hell out of Marigold at school with her affinity. Bee's father was appalled at this and the ensuing fight between father and daughter was massive. To make matters worse Bee overheard Marigold's father threatening to fire Mohammed if he didn't send Bee away. The supervisor gave Mohammed three days to deal with Bee but before her father could take action, Bee did it for him and left without his knowledge. Her goal was to get a job somewhere and accumulate enough money to send to her father so that he could live a more comfortable life, however since she had no credentials and a limited education she had no luck with the job search until she heard about the Nerissa.
