With a nod Harley followed
Mallory to a table, choosing to sit across from the female. As soon as they sat down Harley dug into her food, knowing that she would need the energy once the escape began. And, with a glance at the clock, she saw she didn't have much time until then.
Great, she thought, trying to chew as quickly as she could without looking like a barbarian.
Stupid scientists, keeping me past the lunch bell.
Her eyes wandered over to
Remy as he apologized to everyone for causing a scene, several times. Harley shifted to stand and fetch him, so that he wouldn't be the center of attention for too long, but stopped herself as
Rook stood to assist. She watched the scary male approach the Gentle Giant, reaching for a water bottle and twisting the lid open.
Probably for the best, Harley thought as she tore her eyes away. She turne, noticing
Iris and
Evie leaving the room.
Harley also glanced to
Donovan, to make sure she still knew where he was. He was her team leader, and so she'd want to get to him as soon as the signal was given. They had a very small window for escape, and so Harley didn't want to waste any time getting with her escape team. The faster they could group up, the better.
Wordlessly Harley turned her attention back down to her meal. Truthfully, she knew that the plan would probably fail. She was aware of how unprepared they all were, and yet she still had to try. She couldn't take any more of the tests, couldn't handle the same white walls every day. She needed a change before she was driven to madness, as many of the other prisoners had. Harley has been around insane people her whole life, and from a very young age she had understood that, though she could fight it all she wanted, the scientists could also drive her to such a point.
She'd rather die than loose her mind.
Looking up to
Mallory and
Mina, Harley realized that this could be the very last time she saw either of them. While it was true
Mina wasn't exactly her friend, Harley still liked her to a degree. But,
Mallory on the other hand had found a way to make it onto Harley's friend list. And, if
Mall was lost in the hours to come Harley was sure she would miss her. "
I value our friendship," Harley said suddenly, though her voice was dull. Her brown eyes lingered on the
Mall for a few moments, before
Donovan suddenly joined their table.
Her brown eyes landed on him, levitating before her over their lunch table. She continued to eat as he spoke, asking her why she chose to sit with them. Briefly her gaze flickered between
Mallory and
Mina as
Donnie told them he was only kidding. Of course Harley knew he wasn't, but she didn't say anything about it. "
I like them," She answered, shrugging her shoulders slightly.
Donovan planted himself next to her then, and she reached to open her other water bottle. The edges of her lips pulled upward ever so slightly as
Donnie hugged her, turning to look at him as he brought up
Blue. Harley was well aware about what had gone on between
Donovan and
Tehuri, and how it affected
Lennox. Needless to say,
Lennox was pretty upset about the whole situation. But, in all truth, Harley couldn't see why the two were even feuding over a girl- especially one like
Tehuri. It just seemed so petty to her, especially when they had other things to worry about. For example, a quickly approaching escape.
"
Did you try apologizing?" Harley asked before biting into her sandwich. She knew that Donovan really didn't feel he had anything to apologize for- He was only doing what was expected of him and what came natural, after all- but if he really wanted to salvage the friendship Harley felt like that would be the best way. One of them had to be the bigger man... Or, they could continue to destroy their once great friendship. The choice was theirs.
Donovan: "Harley, do you think what I did was wrong? I mean I really didn't have a choice."
The question stumped Harley. Was he in the wrong? She knew how he felt, and she knew how
Lennox felt, but how did
she feel about it? The blonde took a sip of her water to stall as she considered her answer. "
Um," she said, screwing the lid back on the bottle, "
I think it's wrong of you to claim you didn't have a choice, because we both know that's a lie. But, if you own up to your actions and try to make amends then maybe you can redeem yourself in the eyes of Blue. You hurt him, nothing will change that. Still, you two need to resolve the situation and move on."
Harley knew it was likely
Donovan wanted to hear that he wasn't wrong at all, that he was justified in his actions. But, Harley wasn't the type to lie in order to save his ego. If he hadn't wanted the truth he shouldn't have asked her. Suddenly, the buzzer went off, indicating the end of lunch. And the beginning of their escape. A shiver of anticipation ran down Harley's spine.
She stood and put her tray away, finishing her sandwich along the way. Harley also finished the last of her water before throwing the bottle into the trash. On her way back she looked for
Rook, only because he was part of her group. She caught sight of the last moment of the hug
Remy and
Rook shared, causing her steps to falter.
Don't be jealous, she told herself, taking a deep breath and continuing.
You're not his only friend.
Reaching the table where she had left
Mallory,
Mina and
Donovan, Harley leaned her hand against the surface. She looked to
Mina, and then too
Mall, saying, "
I hope I see you two later." She then turned her gaze to
Donovan. "
I saw Iris leave, I'll go see where she went. I'll be in the General Area in four minutes," She said to him, her voice low. Stealing another glance at
Rook and
Remy, Harley added, "
I'll see you and Rook there."
With that, Harley fell into step with the crowd leaving the cafeteria. They all flowed out of the room at a horribly slow pace, but once Harley finally passed through the doors she was able to walk faster.
Where would they go? She asked herself. If she couldn't find
Iris within the next two minutes she would just have to trust the girl to make it to the general area by herself- Harley couldn't keep
Rook and
Donovan waiting. That would only delay the plan, and put them all in unnecessary danger.
Harley checked
Iris's bedroom first, and then
Evie's. Both rooms were vacant.
Where do girls go when we're upset? She thought, leaning against the wall for a moment. The answer came to her immediately, and she almost slapped herself for having missed the most obvious destination: The bathrooms. Harley made her way to the nearest one, finding both girls together.
Though her countenance did not change, Harley did look to
Evie with sympathetic eyes. It was clear had just been crying, but Harley wouldn't comment on her still puffy face and red cheeks. After all, she wouldn't want someone to point that out to her, had she been in the same situation. Instead, all she said to
Evie was, "
Good luck, Evie. I better see you later." Harley even offered her friend a rare sight: An actual smile.
Her gaze then shifted to
Iris, lips falling back into the flat line they normally resided in. "
Rook and Donovan are waiting on us," She said, "
We should get going."
