A Song of Courage and Steel

Welcome to the Game of Thrones roleplay, going by the name of: A Song of Courage and Steel.
It is set in a fictional past of the series and books, in which we desire to carve a story and experience for ourselves. This roleplay is going to be based first in the North of Westeros, where our characters will have to overcome the deadly hurdles that the world throws at them. Not to forget the hurdles that they can pose for each other's agenda. But let us go to it
.

GM's:

The IC | The Accepted Character Thread |

  • Let us start with the most important: the rules.
I am well aware that not everybody is thrilled but we all want to have an enjoyable experience with joining and being a part of the roleplay. The rules aren't thus to bully you but in order to set up proper guidelines on how we conduct affairs together.

    1. Rather easy, respect each other.
If you aren't able to put up some respect or give another person some time and space, then yeah, we won't rather have you. We all have our bad days, of course. This rule, however, isn't supposed to be a card to pull a nasty attitude and then get away with it. Give each other a bit of time and space. Some of us are used to another and if you see people doing a bit of banter, it is most likely that they know each other well enough to do so. It takes time to get to such a point.

    2. IC isn't OOC.
I do hope that sentence alone makes sense and you don't need to read further than that. But yeah, keep IC to IC and leave the OOC out of it. Vice versa? Pretty much the same. Just because our characters don't align with each other doesn't justify that we need to have a vendetta against another as well. Pretty much the same from OOC to IC.

    3. Communicate.
Communication is the key to success. And not just for roleplay but I will spare you the business talk. If you aren't sure of something? Ask around. There are people ready to lend you a hand. If you want to make a plot or join a character's family? Ask the respective people! Do keep in mind that it is in their right to decline you from joining. Sure, seems less fun but that is how things are.
Also inform your writing partners and GM's if you are going to be absent for a long period. Helps to prevent awkward situations with your respective characters or freezing your direct partners.

    4. Valar Morghulis.
This RP isn't focused on draining our sanity and soul by having characters die left and right. However, characters can and will die if they make the wrong choices. Players can plot and aim to murder as backstab each other. Do, however, consult with the GM's about this though. It is vital for a plot to be approved so that we won't be dealing with sudden weird 180 degrees motives and decisions, just cause it is on a writer's whim. The GM's won't use their OOC knowledge to prevent potential plots. Instead, they will attempt to provide some guidance in how to conduct it without the plot seemingly looking shallow, at best.
This rule is further expanded by what some can consider PVP. Yes, not every character is equally skilled. To keep things fair, the GM's shall arbiter and discuss what would be a desirable situation. Do note that if there is a large gap in terms of skill or such, that one character can die. Other factors, however, do play a role and the GM's will do their best to consider everything before making a verdict.
This also goes for any NPCs that a writer might have made. They don't need a full sheet for it but please respect each other and do try to communicate if you plan to fight IC wise a scene out.

    5. Drama is fun, to a certain degree.
I am saying it now. There is a subtle line between some interesting intrigue going on and just full on drama that makes absolutely no sense. By applying a character sheet, you adhere to the fact that the GM's can call an action to cause some weird and unnecessary drama to be pulled back. This certainly when it is just to cause harm to another writer's work without any good motive or reason.

    6. Morals and viewpoints.
Please do note that the roleplay is set in a setting where the morals of the average person and character are vastly different from ours. Where most of us grow up that killing is bad, in a grim setting where the world is less explained and certain 'virtues' are different characters have different viewpoints and reasonings for their actions. That we don't agree with a character that kills another character in cold blood, justifying it is for the honour of their house, is okay. As long as we realise that this is a fictional story and not always going to be our own viewpoints, thoughts and opinions. That having said, be aware that some immersion will stay intact. It means that certain roles will be more 'natural' for women or men. It doesn't mean you can't try to become a warrior with your female character but there will be a lot more struggle and hindrances. Not as much in a physical direction - as we will be willing to bend stuff a bit - but in a society where female warriors aren't the common thing, don't please take out any frustration OOC wise. If you feel uncomfortable or bad, come and talk with the GMs about it.

    7. Don't forget the top info!
When writing a solo post, please do state at the top of the post the name of the character and their location. Same counts for a collaborative post, which will need to be spoilered as having a summary. Let us try to have two ~ three paragraphs as a solo post. If you do happen to have some trouble writing in such quantity as a reaction, then approach the GM team for aid.

    8. Acceptance.
In order to have your character accepted, it will require the approval of, at least, two GMs. Do keep in mind that if a third GM disagrees and requests changes, that this will be discussed among the GMs. But seeing that we will handle CS's, ideas and requests together you can be certain that if a GM requests change that it is best to adhere to it.
Don't please use the 'card' of that something was accepted before and thus don't need to be adjusted. We are also humans and can oversee matters that we would else request to be changed.

    - You may have your character come from a different area or House, if it isn't too far fetched. However, do note that a large number of Houses will play a pivotal role in the story. You may request to control them but do know that the GM team can opt against this. After all, we are *currently* focused on the North. -

  • The year is 32 TD (TD = after The Doom of Valyria). Peace and stability have come to the largest kingdom on Westeros, the North. This large realm is home to people that still claim ancestry to the First Men. Staunch believers of the Old Gods and their traditions, they differ in some aspects to the southern kingdoms and that of the Ironborn.

While the kingdom has been at peace for the past few years, it is in a rather peculiar position. To the north lies the colossal fortification which stretches for 100 leagues (300 miles), known as the Wall, which is manned by the Night's Watch. The Wall is reported to be over 700 feet tall and is made of solid ice. It was supposedly constructed using both magic and mundane means some millenniums ago in the aftermath of the Long Night to defend the realm against the White Walkers who dwell in the far north, though they are now considered myths by most. The Wall has grown considerably since it was first constructed, as the Night's Watch has spent years augmenting it with ice blocks and upgraded defences.
Past this enormous fortification lay the lands of the wildlings. Whereas in the past, the brothers of the Night Watch were responsible for guarding Westeros against the wildlings, their numbers have been dwindling. Allowing various wildlings to attempt to move over or past the wall to attack the holdings of those who live south of it.

To the south, the Ironborn have managed to conquer the Riverlands, which used to belong to the Stormlands dominion. This conquest happened some decades ago and while the North remained largely unaffected by it, the Ironborn have made various attempts to attack the North from the south - advancing into the treacherous swamps of the Neck or laying siege to Moat Caitlin.
The western coast of the realm, the Northerners have been the victim of Ironborn raiding their shores. While any large incursion has been swiftly dealt with, it is clear that the Ironborn are more than willing to back their ambitions with bloodshed.

As if that wasn't enough, the stability and peace within the realm seem to be threatened as well. Squabbling houses and their feuds seem to shred any sense of unity. Such is the fate of House of Bearon, a small noble house and while they are the bannermen of House Stark, it seems that they are left to fend for their own.

The banner and words of House Bearon.

A proud house that rules from the castle known as 'Braewood Keep'. Located southwest of the Wolfswood. Their lands aren't the most fertile but it is enough for some agricultural activity. The nearby Wolfswood provides some means of resources but not many of the House of Bearon are eager to enter the wild and dangerous region for game and resources.
Despite the name giving the idea that the fortification is made out of sturdy wood, it is actually quite misleading. Made out of stout stone walls and enduring towers, the Braewood Keep has kept the members of its house for generations long. Because of the growing population, another ring of defence is already planned, to allow future expansion of buildings past the first ring of defences.

The late Lord Bearon, Jorvan, died prematurely. Though beloved he was struggling to keep his people safe as feuds and unrest started to rise up. A rival House, that goes by the name of Langdale, started to make claims on the lands of Bearon. These disputes have before turned into bloody minor conflicts, only to be halted by the Starks. But lately, the House of Langdale have once more began to make their incursions. Another rival of House Bearon is the House of Norcross. Though the House of Norcross is smaller, they are somewhat wealthier and have attempted to make gains on the House of Bearon. While no blood has yet been shed between the two, the Norcross house has proven itself to be a threat to the House of Bearon through intrigue and riling unrest in their land.

Now the oldest son of the late Lord Bearon has arisen and time will tell the tales of those who either helped to contribute to consolidating the future of the house or helped to bring it to its end.

    The Bannermen of House Bearon

The House of Bearon has two reliable bannermen families to their disposal. These bannermen are responsible for governing a part of the land that is owned by the House of Bearon. They manage taxation and resources, that are kept in reserves or send to Braewood Keep. But they also are required to raise levies during a call to arms. In return, they can expect to be treated just and given protection from threats.

    • "Strong, free, proud."
      The words of House Haerton.

      shield-8.png

To the northeast of Braewood Keep lies the village of Haerton. It is governed by a family that has some distant ties to the House of Bearon and served as small lords. Currently, it is governed by the family that has adopted the place's name as their (minor) nobility name.
The settlement and its people are currently enjoying the leadership of Lady Eyme Haerton.

It is home to a large group of hunters, woodcutters and trappers that make a living off the southern region of the Wolfswood. This harsh and wild area is filled with resources such as good timber and all kinds of herbs - during summer, that is. But it isn't without its dangers. Packs of wolves, bears, boars and other dangers lurk in the woods. Only the most cunning and toughest of folk can make a living to venture in and out of the Wolfswood.
This hardship has moulded the community of Haerton, causing the majority of the folk to be hardy folk that rather seems to break than to bend.
When the levies are raised, Haerton folk seem to prefer to wield bows and spears or axes. This is likely due to a good portion have a profession resolving around getting resources from the Wolfswood.

Next to the fur and timber that Haerton supply towards Braewood Keep, they have started a brewery. Growing enough hop, the settlement has started to brew their own ale. Which has been surprisingly good, so far.
As a settlement, Haerton is considered a large village and starting to grow towards becoming a small town. A stout palisade, together with a deep ditch, is their main fortification.

A few depictions of Haerton, the settlement and its people.

      3eb095244df04c616fcfa14c39c6ba84.gif

The levies from Haerton seem to prefer to use their bows. Due to many not able to purchase good quality armour, they aren't fond of moving into close quarters with more professional forces. They serve best as skirmishers and scouts.

      viking_town_concept.jpg

The manor serves as the established home of the Haerton leadership, Eyme Haerton. Due to the building being expanded, it supports a large hall where the community on occasion is being rallied to hold meetings - where usually disputes and feuds are ended with the Lady of Haerton as the arbiter.

A band of militia returning to the settlement. The settlement is protected by a palisade, erected to be a defence against any bold animal or group of bandits that may try to their luck.

    • "From courage, glory."
Words from House Ashwood, of Fowlsfield.

      shield-14.png

To the west of Braewood Keep lies a fledgeling settlement, by the name of Fowlsfield. It used to be governed by a family that had some distant ties to the House of Bearon. This family would, however, come to an end with their last lord, Deran Field, dying without any direct successors. Causing it to be granted to a man who had proven his service to both the late Lord Field and House of Bearon. Thus the house of Ashwood was born, designated to govern Fowlsfield.

While it is slightly smaller than Haerton, Fowlsfield is an important site to the House of Bearon. This is primarily because of the close proximity to an iron mine. Providing precious iron for the few smitheries within Fowlsfield to craft tools, weapons and armour - though decent, none of these are on the level of castle-forged material.
As precious as the accumulation of iron may be, the existing mine isn't large enough that it can provide a large supply. It is currently considered for the locals and to have amounts be sent towards Braewood Keep.

Other than the nearby iron mine, agriculture plays a big role. Various grains and resources are being brought into the safety of Fowlsfield's palisade. Only to be stored away for harsher times or to be send towards Braewood Keep.

      086c07b08fa0c9c870da263d7b6f846c.png

Due to its importance of the strategic resource - the iron mine, Fowlsfield has maintained its own semi-professional militia force for some time. Though with being under the direct command of the small lord of Fowlsfield, the militia and their lord's retinue almost seem one and the same.
Made out of hardy folk that are a mix of volunteers and drafted forces (which on turn seem to be composed out of most able-bodied men), they seem rather fond of close quarters - using a mixture of seaxes, axes and spears with shields. A small force of riders does exist but due to the cost of maintaining horses, this hasn't exceeded a number past thirty.
Their attire seems to exist out of a padded armour with boiled leather lamellar. Some wealthier chaps sport a simple helmet.

      Fowlsfield.png

A map of Fowlsfield. Build against rocky terrain, the only feasible approach is through the southern gate - unless a person desires to climb and risk being shot by a guard or simply lose footing to then break their legs (or worse). A small but deep river runs through the settlement and it is often where people get their fresh water supply from. By local laws, it is forbidden to use the river as a dump - less the person desires to lose a hand.
The manor of the small lord is located upon the highest hill while the small folk reside within a sector of their own. This is arguably the largest building of the settlement. A small building to the north of the manor is used as armoury and granary.
A recent addition to the hill is a reasonably spacious home, granted to the brother of Lord of Ashwood.

A steep road can lead to the manor but over the river is a bridge, that directly leads towards the homes of the residing small folk of Fowlsfield.
Outside of the settlement are various farms that enjoy the presence and security that Fowlsfield militia and Ashwood retinue can provide.

  • Feudalism/Social structure.

This society is based on a rigid social structure and government consisted of kings, lords, and the peasants. Nobles rule over the smallfolk within their territory through a system of fealty and sworn oaths. In this system, each man owes military service to his lord in return for protection, a grant of land, and the peasants to work it.

The feudal system has a rigid structure of social classes. Those who are born commoners can expect to die as commoners. There are no provisions for the advancement of individuals from a lower class into the higher classes. This is not to say that it is impossible, only that it is very difficult, usually bestowed by lords to those who have done a great service to them, or knights bestow the rank and title of Knighthood on any individual who has proven himself worthy.

    Sovereign Lords/Kings
A sovereign lord or king claims ownership of the land, has the final political authority and holds the ultimate power in all matters. Although in practice the king is constrained by political realities, and while no individual command is likely to be countermanded, he could still lose his position to intrigue if he were to offend the wrong people. Of course, as kings do not retire, this loss of position would involve his death.

Kings, in turn, have vassals, the high lords of great houses. These high lords control the major regions of the Seven Kingdoms, and in turn, employ vassals of their own; even these lords might have vassal lords sworn to them. This system terminates with the lowest level subordinate knights or minor land owners.

    Nobility
In George R. R. Martin's/Game of Thrones world there are only lords, some bigger and some smaller, some sworn to others, but still all with the same title - save for the Lords of Sunspear, who still hold the title "Prince of Dorne." Nobility is a hereditary title, that it is expressed through the bonds of vassalage which connect between them the various owners of strongholds. Each lord has vassals; sometimes the vassals themselves have vassals, and this may continue onward down the line.

Some lords have extra titles which belong only to their houses: House Greyjoy, for example, has the title of "Lord Reaper of Pyke", House Lannister has "Shield of Lannisport", the newly-created House Royce of the Gates of the Moon has the title of Keeper of the Gates of the Moon made hereditary for them, and House Manderly has several flowery titles, many of which relate to their past life in the Reach and make no sense in the north, but are preserved as tradition. These titles do not elevate a lord above others, they serve as markers of a house's history and as a source of prestige.

    Knights/Bannermen
Knights are the lowest rank of the nobility. This class is made of landed knights, who have been given a keep and grant of land to administer. They have their own peasants and men-at-arms, and may even take sworn swords. Landed knights are sworn to fight for the lord who holds dominion over their land. While the wealthiest knights manage more land than the poorest lords, landed knights do not have the authority to deliver law and justice in their land. Rather, they must appeal to their liege lord

Landed knight is a rare rank in the north and is almost nonexistent on the Iron Islands, because knighthood is culturally linked with the Faith of the Seven, which is not widely practised in those lands. While it isn't canon, in the roleplay the equivalent of a knight in the North is a bannerman, to avoid major confusion.

    Commoners
Commoners or smallfolk are the bottom of the social structure. They do not own lands or titles; they work the land of their lords, and do not have a say in their own governing. While this may seem similar to slavery, the difference is that commoners own themselves, and can make appeals to their local lord regarding violations of the law or general disagreements between parties; they are recognized as having a right to fair and just treatment by the nobility and society in general. Most Houses have laws protecting the local population from abuse or mistreatment, even by members of the nobility. However, those laws differ and are enforced in varying degrees, mostly depending on the disposition of the local lord.

Many of the tradesmen and craftsmen belong to guilds, such as the Alchemists' Guild.

There is little social mobility; odds are that if you are born a commoner, you will never be able to rise above commoner status. However, it does happen, and there several examples of people who have managed it. A few good canon examples are: Varys was a common-born slave and rose to be the spymaster of the Seven Kingdoms. Dunk was born a commoner in Flea Bottom, yet he was able to rise to be a member of the Kingsguard.

Another thing that sets nobility and commoners apart is that commoners lack surnames.

    More terms:
Liege, the primary lord of a vassal who holds by military tenure. The liege lord and vassal each have responsibilities to one another; the vassal must remain loyal to the liege lord above any other lords, while the liege is the vassal's principal protector.
Vassal, a person granted the use of land, in return for rendering homage, fealty, and usually military service or its equivalent to a lord or other superior. They are frequently referred to as "bannermen".
Warden, commanders who exercise military functions for geographic locations, such as Lord Manderly being Warden of the White Knife.

The topics below can and will be expanded in the future, if there is a need for it.

  • The map with known locations on it. It will serve as handy tool to see where some locations lay and what directions one has to take to go from point A to point B.

    Regional-map.png

  • The North is currently dominated by the Starks of Winterfell. The current king is Darrik Stark. His rule has been somewhat prosperous, considering the delicate geo-politics. Despite the best attempts of the Starks, they aren't able to quell all the problems that trouble the North.

The main focus has been to defend their demense against Ironborn incursions and invasion attempts. For the past decade, this has been an almost continuous campaign of back and forth between the Northerners and Ironborn. And while the Starks have been able to protect the borders, this has made them blind for internal affairs.

    • shield-2.png

      "To Death."

The house of Langdale rules from Ryle Fort. Somewhat the equal of House Bearon, a lengthy rivalry has been going between the two houses. This has been going on for so long that many can't even recall clearly what caused the two houses to become so hostile towards another.

Currently, the house of Langdale posses as a serious threat to the House of Bearon. This is because of their roughly equally military strength. But also because the House of Langdale is making more allies to support what they proclaim as a justified claim on half the lands of their rivals.

The House is led by Lord Bracks Langdale. A seasoned veteran of military campaigns. Though he is quite kind to his own kin, he is known as a crude and brutish man to those he considers below him.

    • "Deeds, not words."
      shield-22.png

The House of Norcross reigns over their subjects and lands from the castle of Dorston. Though they control less land, they aren't an easy picking. Three large iron mines have contributed much to the current wealth of the House of Norcross. Allowing them to field larger ambitions with each year, it seems.

One of these ambitions seems to be to diminish the influence and power of their northern neighbour, the House of Bearon. But unlike the more direct approach that the House of Langdale takes, the House of Norcross seems to opt for a more subtle route. Undermining their target with diplomacy, bribery and shrewd actions, they are becoming an ever-growing threat to the House of Bearon.

Their current leader goes by the name of Lord Roberd Norcross. Though he is past his prime, he is a most intelligent man that knows how to get most matters done. With many loyal subjects and kin, he has access to some very experienced and capable retainers. All to see his ambitions being realised.

  • We will be focusing for now mostly on the North and its traditions.

Northman or Northerner is a term used on the continent of Westeros, which has different meanings depending on the region.
Most commonly, the term "Northerner" is used to refer to the people established in the region north of the Neck but south of the Wall, where the blood and traditions of the First Men still hold sway and belief in the Old Gods of the Forest remains the dominant religion.

The Northmen are proud descendants of the First Men, who successfully repulsed the Andals from the North when they invaded Westeros six thousand years ago in a mass migration. South of the Neck, the majority of people from the other kingdoms of Westeros are all descended from the Andals, intermixed with the conquered local First Men, but the defiantly independent First Men remained the dominant ethnic group north of the Neck. Except for the crannogmen, northmen are sometimes collectively referred to as "wolves", in reference to the sigil of House Stark.

The "Northmen", the crannogmen of the Neck, and the wildlings are all descended from the First Men, and all three groups still follow the same religion of the Old Gods, but their cultures diverged in different ways across the millennia.

In a cultural context, the term "Northmen" often excludes the crannogmen, the reclusive people that inhabit the swamps of the Neck itself. Like the other "Northmen" (such as the Starks) the crannogmen are also descended from the First Men, but their culture branched off from their Northmen cousins to adapt to the unique conditions of the swampy lands they inhabit.
The wildlings who dwell in the wilderness beyond the Wall consider themselves the "true" Northerners, using the term "southerner" to refer to all peoples who live south of the Wall, regardless of their cultural background.

  • The weapons carried generally reflect those of the prototype armies and by far the most common is the spear and bow. This is to a very real extent the mark of a soldier and so carried by all, although it may not necessarily be the soldier's primary weapon or their preferences. Other weapons are also common. Almost everyone carries a knife or dagger, as they are useful and practical in many circumstances. Effective spears and mauls are relatively cheap to make and are, thus, popular weapons for men-at-arms. A cheap spear can still be a good weapon; the same cannot be said of a cheap sword.

    Polearms
    • Halberd: The halberd has a heavy, cleaver-like blade at the top of a long shaft. It usually has a spike at the top of the shaft and a thorn or a hook opposite to the blade.
    • Poleaxe: A Poleaxe has an axehead opposite to a hammer or a spike, mounted on a shaft. The shaft usually has a spike on both ends.
    Axes & Hammers
    • Battle-axe: A wicked, broad-headed axe, used to cleave through armor and shields. It can be wielded in one hand, and some battle-axes are double-bladed.
    • Hand Axe: A warrior’s version of a hatchet, smaller than a battle-axe and balanced to be thrown. These short-hafted axes are used by the ironmen to dance the finger dance.
    • Longaxe: A long-hafted version of the battle-axe. The longaxe is light enough to be wielded by one hand. A longaxe may have a double-bladed axe head or it may have a spike on one side. It is likely that some longaxes are large enough to require two hands.
    • Woodsman’s Axe: A woodsman’s tool for chopping and splitting wood, this axe can easily turn into a deadly weapon. Normally used by smallfolk and brigands, it is single-bladed and smaller than its martial cousin, the battle-axe.
    • Club/Cudgel: A short club fashioned of hardwood or sometimes metal. Usually used by policing forces such as local guards and watchmen.
    • Mace: A blunt crushing weapon designed to smash armor, a mace consists of a heavy head of stone or metal set upon a wooden or metal shaft. The head is often flanged or knobbed to better penetrate armor.
    • Warhammer: Usually about the same length as a mace (though they can be much longer), the head is made of hardened steel that has a long spike to one side and a small mace-like counterweight on the other. Warhammers are good for piercing armor, or hooking the enemies' reins or shields.
    Swords
    • Arakh: Dothraki warriors favor this long curved sword. It is a type of sword with no guard and a curved blade resembling a scythe.
    • Shortsword: Shorter than a longsword but longer and heavier than a dagger, the shortsword is a one-handed blade generally meant for thrusting.
    • Falchion: A short, cleaver-like sword used for hacking.
    • Braavosi Blade: Slender swords, edged and balanced for the thrust. The Water Dancers of Braavos have made these narrow swords famous, though they can be found throughout the Free Cities.
    • Longsword: A common weapon of knights throughout Westeros, these one-handed blades are also known as broadswords or simply "swords." The blades are about three feet in length, double-edged, and mounted on a hilt with a heavy pommel and a sizable crossguard.
    • Bastard Sword: Neither a longsword nor a greatsword, the bastard sword is named for its lack of family. It has a longer blade and a more elongated grip than a longsword. However, the longer hilt is not as large as that of a greatsword and it is meant for the off-hand to provide a bit more leverage. Thus, the bastard sword is more of a hand-and-a-half weapon than a two-handed sword.
    • Greatsword: The greatsword requires two hands to use. It is the largest type of sword.
    800px-Northmen_reading_for_battle.jpg

    Projectile Weapons
    • Bow: Bows in the Seven Kingdoms are made from wood, though bows from more exotic lands may be made from laminated horn or bone. Bows are difficult to use while mounted and cannot normally be used with any accuracy if the mount is moving.
    • Longbow: The longbow is cut from a single piece of wood approximately six feet long, and when drawn back to the chin or ear will have a draw-weight of upwards of 100lb, sufficient to carry a shaft 250 yards or so, even to drive one through plate armour at very close range. Longbows will be used by most of the armies (and indeed unless someone is specifically mentioned as carrying a crossbow it can be safely assumed that all archers are longbowmen).
    • Bow, Double-Curved or Recurved: This small bow is double-curved and made from laminated horn, wood, or bone (hence it is also called a "Composite Bow" sometimes). Double-curved bows are mostly favoured in Dorne, but they can be found in many places throughout the world. The Dothraki especially favour them, alongside the Dornishmen. Double-curved bows can be fired from horseback (primarily to lay an arrow storm, rather than pick individuals), and can achieve draw-weights comparable to longbows.
    • Crossbow: Crossbows are shorter bows that shoot bolts or quarrels. There is a stock attached to the bow with a mechanical assist to draw the bowstring. Due to its shorter draw, the crossbow requires a higher draw weight to give the same amount of energy as a conventional bow. The drawing mechanism can be a stirrup with a winch or a crank. The Myrish produce ungainly crossbows capable of firing three quarrels at a time.
    Spears
    • Spear: A simple weapon used for hunting and combat, comprising a wooden shaft up to 10 feet long tipped with a relatively small head of iron or steel. It can be used for individual combat.
    • Pike: A pike is a longer spear, normally 10-15 feet long. This weapon is characteristic of the Northern armies in particular and is used by large bodies of infantry operating together either to push through or over opposing infantry or hold off cavalry.
    • Spear, Boar: A short version of the spear, the boar spear features a large blade and has a cross-piece just behind the head to prevent it from penetrating too deeply. Sometimes favoured by infantry officers it is as the name indicates primarily a hunting weapon
    • Spear, Frog: A weapon used by the Crannogmen, these small spears end in three prongs and are primarily used for hunting frogs and other small prey in the Neck, but they can just as easily be adapted to fight men. Frog spears can also be thrown.
    • Flail: A military cousin to the farmer’s tool, a warrior’s flail is a length of chain attached to a rod. At the end of the chain is a heavy metal head, either blunt like a mace or spiked like a morning star.
    • Morningstar: Cousin to the flail and ball and chain, a morningstar is a length of chain connected to a rod at one end and bears a spiked ball at the other.
    Miscellaneous
    • Dagger: A long knife used to stab and pierce, often carried as a tool as much as a weapon.
    • Dirk: A dagger designed for combat with a straight, narrow blade, often used in the off-hand to complement a primary weapon.
    • Net: Made of strong rope, a net is typically a tool to catch fish or birds. Some people have adapted them for fighting, such as the crannogmen from the Neck, who use them to ensnare opponents or entangle weapons.
    • Peasant Tool: Peasants rarely could afford traditional weapons and generally fought with what was at hand: sticks, clubs, tools or their bare hands, those weapons are of poor quality.
    • Lance, War: A weapon of knights and heavy cavalry, lances are normally 8-10 feet long, made of turned ash, and banded to prevent splitting. The lance is tipped with a sharpened steel point and is normally used for a single charge before becoming too unwieldy in close combat.
    • Lance, Tourney: Tourney lances are longer and more fragile than their battlefield cousins. Their tips are blunted to better unhorse an opponent without causing serious harm, and they are unbanded, meaning that they will often break upon impact. A tourney lance is normally 12-14 feet long and may be made from a prettier wood, such as golden wood from the Summer Isles.

Armor in Westeros is commonly forged from iron and steel. Occasionally one may find an ancient piece of armor forged from bronze, but that is a great rarity today. Advanced full plate and scale armor, made of relatively light weight steel, is also available to those with the proper funds.

Additional ornamentation can be quite elaborate. Common methods involve paints, enamels, or bluing the steel. A truly skilled blacksmith, however, can work colour into the metal itself to ensure that it does not chip or flake off. Such work is expensive and can be afforded only by the nobility. In the real world, the technological level is comparable to the late medieval and early renaissance, which is quite advanced "for the time" in Westeros.

The most effective, and expensive, armor is plate armor, which consists of a number of shaped plates of steel fitted to the body. Plate is normally worn over chainmail and an undercoat padded armour. Those who cannot afford plate may wear chainmail or leather, and this coverage still provides good protection. It is also common to wear only partial plate; a plate helm, for example, is common, as are breastplates and gorgets - though still quite expensive. Scale armor is also known but considerably less common. Armor made of boiled leather is sometimes worn by itself on top of padded armour, particularly by scouts and levied men-at-arms. While better than nothing, it cannot stop an on-target axe blow, whereas plate armor can.

Plate armor is more common in the Reach, while mail is more the rule in the North, and the wildlings beyond the Wall are much more primitively armored. The Dornish use a lot of copper armor, but mainly for ornamental purposes. It's very pretty flashing in the sun - as pretty as gold - but cheaper.
    • Padded armor: Made of linen or canvas, which has been stuffed with cloth. This can be worn by itself, often called a gambeson, but is essential when wearing as first line of armour, in order to absorb blows more readily.
    • Boiled leather armor: Used by GRRM to denote thick leather, boiled in water. In reality such leather would be dressed with oil to retain its flexibility. Boiled leather will set very hard and was moulded into rounded pieces to protect shoulders, elbows and knees before the ready advent of plate armor.
    • Brigandine: Also known as Jack, is a cloth garment, generally canvas or leather, lined with small oblong steel plates riveted to the fabric. Commonly worn by: freeriders, mounted bowmen, and men-at-arms.
    • Hauberk: A chainmail shirt, the hauberk includes sleeves and can extend as low as the knees. The hauberk is typically constructed of interlocking whoops of metal sewn into a shirt or a tunic. The sleeves of a hauberk often reach the elbow, though the sleeve length varies. The hauberk tends to be made of iron rings, and is generally worn over a padded undercoat.
    • Byrnie: Made of chainmail. Byrnies are generally distinguished from hauberks by their sleeve length (a byrnie has only short sleeves). There are doubts about the exact definition (and length) of a historical byrnie, but both in Westeros and in history byrnies are some variety of armor jacket or a shirt. Oberyn Martell's is specifically described as chainmail.
    • Scale armor: A garment with hundreds of small plates stitched and riveted onto it.
    • Heavy plate armor: Worn over mail and a padded surcoat. Large rondels protect the juncture of arm and breast. The vulnerable points are at the less protected joints, places at elbows, knees, and beneath the arms

  • The developmental level of science and technology in Westeros, and The Known World as a whole, is roughly comparable to real-life late medieval levels.
The technology level in their society more or less matches late medieval Europe, i.e. right before the use of gunpowder and cannons revolutionized medieval warfare and brought it into the Early Modern era.

Magic was prevalent in the world in the long-distant past, but for many centuries, magical power has dwindled in the world, as has knowledge of its use. While a handful of odd cults still believe in magic, such as the Alchemists' Guild and Warlocks of Qarth, they can do little to substantiate their claims. The general population considers magic to have never existed at all and to be simply mythical; a view promoted by the Order of Maesters, who champion a world based on science and reason and scorn the very idea of magic. The mighty Valyrian Freehold was built using the powerful dragons, who were rumoured to share a deep link with magic. However, most dragons were killed in the Doom of Valyria

Military technology in Westeros and Essos is loosely comparable to the kinds used during the real-life Hundred Years' War and War of the Roses. Crossbows are prevalent, though they have not superseded longbows, which are also quite common on the battlefield. Various kinds of advanced siege weapons such as catapults are employed. Horse cavalry is widely used, and some regions of Essos are known to use mounted elephants. Heavy cavalry, using mounted knights in full plate armor, is a mainstay of the battlefield, though they are more commonly fielded by the wealthier regions of Westeros (i.e. the Reach or the Westerlands), while the poorer kingdoms (such as The North or the Iron Islands) make do with chain mail instead of full plate armor. Many armies frequently make use of different kinds of mercenaries.

Different societies have their own writing systems. The main one encountered is the one used for the Common Tongue of the Andals throughout Westeros. The Andals introduced the first full writing system to Westeros: the First Men before them only used a basic rune script for the Old Tongue which was only used for basic inscriptions on grave markers, etc. The Dothraki do not have a written language.
The novels refer to characters in Westeros using both "parchment" (made from animal skins) and "paper" (made from wood pulp). This is not incongruous to the setting: paper was introduced to real life Western Europe as early as the twelfth century, though it did not surpass use of parchment for many centuries. Generally, parchment was still used for important documents - legal charters, important diplomatic messages, etc. - while paper was a cheap, less durable alternative. Given that Westeros is loosely based on the War of the Roses in England during the 1400s, it is not contradictory that their society uses a mix of paper or parchment for different tasks. Paper seems to be often used for more common tasks: the messages sent via the raven network are described as being written on little scrolls of "paper" - paper is thinner and lighter than parchment so it is probably easier to roll, easier to fit more writing on each roll, and easier for the birds to carry.

More important hand-delivered messages tend to be written on parchment, particularly royal decrees. Most if not all books are made out of parchment, not paper: books are usually commissioned or hand-copied and thus more like luxury items, so anyone commissioning one will have it made of high quality. They don't have cheap mass-produced paper books.

Liana has a fair skin complexion with light brown hair that reaches her shoulder. Paired with two brown eyes and slim build, Liana is often seen in attires that seem carefully picked to not make her too noticeable. Her presence is accompanied with a soft and friendly voice which is often to be said sweet to the ears. A playful smile usually adorns the thin lips of Liana, when she feels at comfort.

Loyalty:
Bannermen of Haerton.
Occupation:
Current occupation is herbalist.

Ambition(s):
Liana doesn’t have any big ambitions. She is mostly curious and willing to learn skills that she can get from her father. There is also the curiosity that she has regarding the skills of the friends of her father.

Personality:
Liana is not the most present person. She tends to keep things mostly to herself or those that she considers trustworthy. And her trust is hard to get. In a harsh world where she isn’t surrounded by luxuries, Liana has learned to accept that life is harsh. This makes her usually pretty honest, to the point she would most likely upset a lot of people, if it weren’t for her cautious and silent demeanor around people she doesn’t trust.

Other than that, Liana tends to be capable to deal with stress. The less luxurious lifestyle and her father’s guidance made her into a rather diligent and disciplined person.

[ History ]
The History:
Liana came into the world as the daughter of a hunter and herbalist. While one would likely argue that being raised without a mother would have its impact on the child’s development - certainly social-emotional development - Liana grew up without much of an issue. She would grow up as a child that was more keen to stay out of trouble and watch things, than to rather get involved and bring the ire of her father on her.
However, one experience would somewhat change Liana’s viewpoint on the world. At the age of five, she would see her father march off to the south. Not understanding at that age why her father had to go away, Liana turned from a silent girl into a true rebel. This phase would, eventually come to end. But not without the girl harbouring a serious distrust to nobles and their ability to call smallfolk to their ‘squabbles’.

As the years started to pass, Liana started to grow a certain curiosity towards herbalism. Most intrigued by how plants can be used to produce all kind of tonics, she would gain first some help from her father. But at a certain point, Liana started to outpace her father’s knowledge. Being able to carefully observe the effects on her own, Liana would start to make her own recipes. Ranging from tonics that could help to withstand a fever to lesser benevolent recipes.

The young girl also started to develop an interest into some other fields. With her father as a hunter, she started to pick up on some of his archery lessons. Together with the mandatory duty of attending to the weekly training, Liana would attempt to outperform her peers at archery. Though she wasn’t the strongest or fastest, she was certainly driven. Even if she realised that she wasn’t going to become the best shooter in the village, when it came to her peers.
Around some time, she also started to learn and meet one of her father’s friends. Duncan Ashwood, who apparently seems to be a good friend of Sven. Intrigued by this unknown man, Liana kept her distance at first. Only to afterwards bombard Sven with questions.
By the next time that this Duncan fellow visited, Liana was ‘waiting’ for him. The first exchanges would be short and having a cautious approach from the young girl. Only when she started to warm up to the man, she would get bolder. To the point where she started to show interest in what Duncan was an expert in.

Before she would request Duncan to help her become better at certain skills, she would request her father’s permission. Only then she started to expand her horizon and knowledge, wanting to learn more about the world. This would make Liana start to open up to some more people for a short time. Leading to her eventually building the base for a friendship with Daella.

[ Skills and Gear]
Skills and various Traits:
Liana has a diverse kit of skills. Her most dedicated expertise is herbalism. With her father’s guidance and her own research, Liana has become able to indulge more into the field. Capable of mixing and producing some strong tonics that can be used to benefit one’s health, she has also dabbled more than a bit into the opposite - namely toxics.
More than that, she has been training archery for the past few years. While she doesn’t have the sharpshooter skills as her father - who has much more experience - she has becoming a decent shot. Together with tracking and learning about wildlife, Liana is starting to pick up more skills from her old man.

Another field that she started to dabble in is martial prowess. While Liana isn’t the physical strongest person around, she is rather agile and quick.

List of weapons.

Name:
Liana’s bow
Description:
It is the bow that her father made for her. It is mostly suited for hunting small animals. And while one can argue that it could kill a person, the draw weight is 50 pounds. Naturally, she owns her own quiver that can hold a dozen of arrows in it.
Appearance:

List of armour or attire.

Liana doesn’t own any armour. And clothing is relatively scarce as well, compared to ladies of noble birth. She has a few tunics and pants. With nobody to knit or sown her clothing, she has become somewhat acquintated to do it herself.
Most of her clothing have an earthy colour - such as brown or green. Her favorite is a dull-yellow tunic.

Appearance:
Sven has the appearance of a man who reached the prime of his life. His stature is well composed, and while he does not appear buff, there is little to suggest he is weak physically. His body is heavily scarred with both cuts and burn marks, but he does not attempt to conceal them in any manner beyond the clothes (And if required, armor) that he wears upon him.

His daily attire consists of a dark green shirt, dark brown pants, dark brown gloves and boots, He also has a tendency of carrying a yellow feather behind his left ear.

Loyalty:
Bannermen of Haerton.
Occupation:
Currently serves as a Hunter and a hunting mentor.
He was a Hunter since he was a kid, and stayed with the same occupation his entire life

Ambition(s):
Sven is a simple man, with a simple ambition: To make sure his daughter is raised to become the fine woman he knows she can be.
A smaller ambition he has is to become renowned for cooking the best boar in all the land.

Personality:
Sven is a rather polite and straight person. He would often prefer telling people exactly what is on his mind than to keep it in, but at the same time, if someone asks him to keep a secret, he will take it to the grave with him. He will always make sure to keep his manners in place and even if he thinks ill of someone, he will never say it out loud, to anyone, regardless of how much he wants to.

Due to his semi-success at making a name for himself as a decent hunter in the area, he has a sense of pride when it comes to his hunting, and will often be more than happy to show it. He won't brag that he is the best hunter, but he won't deny anyone saying it either.

His weakness, when it comes to anything, lies with his living family members. His sister Lilian, grandfather Allister, and most importantly his daughter, Liana. He will go any length to ensure their safety and well being, and threatening them can cause Sven to be as cold as it can get to whoever posed the threat, if not get an arrow aimed at them.

[ History ]
The History:
Sven’s past is one that was riddled with misfortune. He was born into a family that could barely sustain itself. His father, Trent, had began cursing Sven’s name the moment he came into the air, as he claimed it only meant more labour for him. While his mother, Izabel, tried to care and protect Sven as much as she could, it was a difficult task under the harsh conditions they already lived in.

When he was at the age of two, his younger sister, Lilian, was born. Once more, Trent had began cursing, this time putting more focus on his sister than on Sven. For the next four years, Trent had barely managed to scrap food and provide for his family, and his anger only grew as time passed. At the age of 6, he had left for a period of time, only to return with fresh supplies and an expression Sven had never seen on his father before. After his parents discussed something, his mother Izabel had left the house. When Sven asked about the departure, Trent simply ignored his son.

Following this, Trent began to take his son on hunting trips, while leaving his daughter under the care of Izabel’s parents, Sven’s grandparents. These trips would set Sven on the path to become a hunter, and his father Trent served as his mentor. It would take several years, but at the age of 14, Sven would pass his father in his hunting skills. It still appeared as though Trent felt nothing but resentment towards his children. At this point, Trent began staying at home, looking over Lilian as she trained to become a housewife, much like how their mother was.

Upon becoming the main provider of the family, Sven once more approached his father and asked about the whereabouts of his mother. Trent answered bluntly, stating she is paying off a debt that he made, in order to be able to raise them. Not believing, Sven set off, and found out that was the truth. Izabel was more than glad to see her grown up son, but also informed him she still had several more years to serve before their debt was done. Not wanting to leave, Sven was eventually convinced by his mother to go and take care of his sister.

More years passed, and Sven had began to make a name for himself as a local hunter. At the age of 19, he saw his mother return home. A year later, and he had yet another sibling, a young brother that was named Francis. His brother’s life, along with his mother’s freedom, would be short lived.

One night, Sven was woken up by an odd smell in the cabin they lived in. Getting up, he discovered his father had managed to acquire some liquor, and had passed out on the ground. A lit candle had fallen into the puddle of spilled liquor, and the flames were already growing. He managed to grab his sister and get her out of the cabin, but by the time he went back inside, the fire had spread, blocking his path to his father, his mother, or his young brother. Soon enough, the supports of the cabin gave in, and collapsed on top of Sven.

He woke up, wounded yet bandaged, to the sight of his sister and grandfather. While Lilian was simply glad to see him, his grandfather appeared grim and informed Sven of what happened. The rest of the family had perished in the fire, and they barely managed to get him out. Not believing what he was just told, Sven fell into despair. Both the lives of his mother, who had just barely regained her freedom, and his young brother, who barely saw the day of light, were now gone. Without thinking much of it, Sven began drinking much and allowed him to fall into a deep hole. His hunts were being hurt, and his relationship with his grandfather and sister too.

It wasn’t until a couple of months later, when he met Ariana. To him, she came like a blur of light in the middle of the night. She stood over him with a lantern, and provided him with some warmth, in the shape of a poor blanket. From that moment, they would began interacting. Ariana was nice, and enjoyed Sven’s company. Sven found her to be the guiding light he needed in a dark time. Not long after, they decided to jump into it and wed. Sven felt as though his happiness knew no bounds, and it appeared as though Ariana shared his feelings. His remaining family, Lilian and Allister, welcomed Ariana with open arms, clearly thankful she helped Sven so much. It was Ariana who taught Sven the basic skills of the Herbalist, as she was one herself.

Over a year passed, and Sven would encounter his most conflicting moment in his life. Ariana gave birth to a daughter, and she named her Liana. Sven did not argue, as he found the name to be beautiful. Shortly afterwards, he discovered Ariana had stopped responding to him. He called to his grandfather and the local physician, but it was to no avail. He learned that the labour had taken too much from Ariana, and she passed from the weak state her body was in. Looking at his daughter, all Sven could do was embrace her, giving her a quiet promise that he will always be there for her, and that her mother will always be watching.

Raising Liana, Sven found fascinated by how the girl acted. She always appeared to be curious by the things around her, but it also appeared like she was anything but naive. It certainly made him feel a bit more reassured, to know that she wouldn’t just immediately trust whatever or whoever came to her. it certainly annoyed his sister, who had moved to their grandfather’s place to help take care of him. And still, much love was given to the young girl, along with the freedom to explore what her heart desired.

When Liana was five, Sven was called to arms. Without much option, he left Liana with his sister and grandfather, before going to fight. It would be a bloody and terrible fight, but one where they would manage to defend against the opposing forces. During this, he fought alongside a man that went by Duncan. The two would become brothers at arms, their bond strengthening with each passing fight and day. Eventually, they would be allowed to return to their lives, but Sven kept in touch with Duncan, with the two visiting each other when they could. Upon Duncan’s rise to Lordship, Sven had some concern that their meetings and their nature may change, but it soon became clear this was not the case. The two kept meeting each other, and still treated each other the same as before, even if they had different ranks in society now.

As time passed, he began noticing Liana’s interest in herbalism. Being reminded of her mother, Sven decided to teach Liana everything he was taught about herbalism from her mother, and everything he learned afterwards. It wasn’t long, however, before she began studying things that were beyond his knowledge in the field. Her fascination also seemed to extend to Archery and fencing, so he trained her in Archery, while getting his good friend Duncan Ashwood to train her in fencing. While he had some concerns about the choices she was making, he decided to let her explore the many options life had to offer.

To honour Ariana’s memory, who he knew would’ve wanted Liana to explore the world.
And for Liana’s bright future.

[ Skills and Gear ]
Skills and various Traits:
Sven has trained to be a hunter since a young age, making him very adept at tracking down creatures in the wild, stealth movement as to not scare off any potential preys and skinning of animals without harming their meat beyond the shots taken from his arrow. He has learned how to make several different types of traps, but he mostly prefers going with net traps, as he feels those are the easiest to conceal.

As part of his learning to become a good hunter, Sven learned how to use both short and long bows, but his preference and primary skill is with the short bow, and he also learned how to use a hunter's knife as his short range, melee weapon. While he has mostly trained to keep his distance, his father taught him basic self-defense and past encounters with hostile wildlife has forced him to improve it to a better degree. He isn't the quickest or strongest, but he tries making up for it with a decent amount of stamina he has. Over the years, he also learned how to make his own bows, but he only made a couple that he considers to be decent throughout his life.

He knows his way around the more common herbs and greenery, how to ride a horse and while he does not tend to show it often, he knows how to whistle well in several different tones. He also knows basic medical skills. Sven doesn’t brag about it, but he does have good cooking skills.

Is currently 33 years old. Born a year before the Doom of Valyria.

Length and body build:
Eyme stands at a length of 1.72m / 5ft 7 feet. She sports a tuned body, the result of hard labour and her interests.

Weight:
Eyme weighs approx 72kg / 158 pounds.

Sexuality:
Heterosexual.

Distant relatives:

Appearance:
Eyme is usually described as a woman who’s facial expression seemed to be stuck at a serious look. She tends to keep her hair in a braided style, both for practicality as for fashion. Her clothing doesn’t entirely seem to resemble what one would expect from a noble lady, even if it of a lesser house. She doesn’t seem to like skirts, preferring tunics and pants for practical uses.

Loyalty:
Bannermen of Haerton.
Occupation:
Lady of Haerton, a bannerman of House Bearon.

Ambition(s):
The ambitions of Eyme aren’t really well known. Through her actions and personality, it is quite clear that she desires to keep the settlement of Haerton to grow and prosper. There are some who wonder if she doesn’t aim for anything bigger but many in Haerton rather don’t speak this out in the open.

Personality:
Eyme is described by many as a stern and even harsh person. She is often blunt and doesn't seem to have much respect for social classes. Instead, she values merit over inherited blood and chooses her loyalty based on that - whenever that is possible. This has made her less loved by other nobility but be able to govern the people of Haerton rather efficiently.
As one can expect from somebody who has a 'zero-bullshit' attitude, Eyme doesn't hand out her loyalty or trust easily. She is highly wary of outsiders or people who haven't yet proven their value.

On the other side, she can be a staunch loyalist. Though stubborn at times, she is quite flexible and thinks before she acts. This is often seen at exchanges, where she tends to keep her thoughts for herself and doesn't indulge others entirely in her plans. Which has proven rather often useful for her own ambitions.

[ History ]
The History:
Born as the oldest daughter of Culler Haerton, the previous (small) Lord of Haerton, it wasn’t certain if Eyme would inherit the leadership. With the succession laws of the land being more favourable towards sons, Eyme’s childhood would already hint towards the stubborn and serious nature. As a child, Eyme showed little interest in playing around and seemed more attuned to working hard. This made the bond between her and her mother at times straining, because of Eyme’s refusal to groom herself and head out to wander around Haerton - getting involved with helping people, in return for a copper coin or so.

Growing up to a young girl, Eyme started to work on what could be described as unorthodox by the more traditional folk. While she was supposed to be a lady, she started to invest time and effort into building a connection with the people of Haerton. She would often be found to study people in silence, which was first considered odd. But eventually, it would grow on a lot of folk in the settlement. After all, Eyme would on occasion still help with some projects - such as building new sheds and etc.
Manners like how to behave as a lady simply didn’t seem to interest Eyme, who seemed to be quite the rebel teen when it came down to wear a skirt or try to groom her hair. The only reason why she isn’t so uncouth is probably because of the almost equal stubbornness of her mother, Branelle.

When Eyme started to become a young woman, she would be more temperate in her manners. While involving herself with the locals, she would assert her influence through her knowledge of various fields as using connections to consolidate herself as the favoured heir of her father. Managing to do so, this created a pressure for Culler to make Eyme into his heir. Making the first step of the young woman's ambition set.
Once it was certain that she had reached what she wanted, Eyme started to consolidate her position. With growing loyalty, she started to expand her network of associates. People from Haerton would start to venture on some trading expeditions to other settlements and bring back wares and wealth, usually based on what Eyme could get as information from those loyal to her. Over time, her knowledge on the matter of economy, trade and information started to show its merit: slowly more people started to believe that Eyme was the best choice to follow Culler. Even if she was born as the fairer gender.

In the year 21 TD, Culler Haerton would die at the age of 52. During a hunt into the wolfswood, he would together with a companion fall prey to a hungry pack of wolves. When two days past, hunters were sent out to search for Culler and his companion. They stumbled on the shredded remains and brought back what they could find so that both men could have a proper funeral with all demanded decorum.
Stepping up as the leader of Haerton, Eyme started to make her influence even ring louder. Projects were issues and the settlement started to undergo a serious transformation. Whereas the boundary between the settlement and outside was barely marked, Eyme started a large project to erect a palisade wall and ditch. This soon followed by expanding the market as well as building a hall in Haerton, where the community could come together to form an assembly - its goal being to settle disputes and hold meetings with Eyme.

Certain traditions would be expanded as well. Whereas many places in the North have the obligation to instruct and train their (male) smallfolk, a day a week, into some martial training Eyme would step it up. Both on Mondays and Fridays, anybody between 12 and 50 years would be obligated to train matters like archery and basic training. And not only boys and men were obligated but girls from the age of 12 to 35 would be drafted into these required training.
Some did disagree but the effects of Eyme's decisions would dissuade many from opposing the Lady of Haerton, to the point that many locals have a great amount of faith in her.

[ Skills and Gear]
Skills and various Traits:
Eyme is a woman of various skills. What she is most known for her is knowledge regarding certain topics, such as trade and reading people. What most don’t realise, or at least fail to do so, is that she relies a lot on experience and her network of loyal associates.
She is a decent hunter and tracker as well being able to put up a nasty fight, though martial prowess has never been her main focus.
Having studied locals and being fueled information, Eyme is somewhat decent at reading and predicting people. Though this is a field that isn’t as solid or simple as it may seem, Eyme’s skill is enhanced by that she has great control over her emotions.

Furthermore, she tends to be quite patient and play for the long run.

List of weapons.

Name:
Culler’s Blade
Description:
A sharp seax blade that once belonged to her father, is now in the possession of Eyme. She is capable of adequately handling herself in a pinch against a middling skilled fighter.
Appearance:
ragnar-sax-1.jpg

Name:
Eyme’s bow
Description:
It is a bow that Eyme has trained with and even used a few times when on hunting. A bow made by a very good friend of hers. Though she is by far not the best archer in the lands, she is quite capable of landing a few good aimed shots with her bow. Its draw weight is around 65 pounds.
Appearance:
custom_yew_longbow.jpg

Name:
Eyme’s connection and network of associates.
Description:
Though not a direct weapon such as a knife, arrow shot from a bow or a sword, it can be considered a ‘weapon’ by the right handling. Having build up a network of associates and people loyal to her, Eyme is capable of gaining information from the region with rather ease. This network isn’t unrestricted, however, as it may sound. The associates are often of lowborn and seeing it is usually information that goes via via, Eyme can’t always entirely rely on it.

List of armour or attire.

Her attire is pretty much as the image at the top of the character sheet. Though Eyme posses a few skirts, these are by far not of the same quality a noble lady would have in her wardrobe. As a lower noble and the revenue that Haerton is capable of providing, Eyme’s clothing do have a decent quality to them.
In terms of protective wear, Eyme doesn’t have any top notch armour to her possession. For it hasn’t become a need for her and, hopefully, it won’t come to that.

[ Personal Information ]

Name:
Duncan Ashwood

Aliases:
None so far.
Gender:
Male.
Age:
Born in 3TD (after The Doom), which makes Duncan 29 years old.

Length and body build:
Duncan has a height of 1.82m / 6ft 1. His build is strong and seems to reflect his martial prowess.

Weight:
Duncan weighs approximately 80-82 kilograms.

Sexuality:
Heterosexual.

Grandparents:
Father’s side:
Grandfather: Tarner (deceased)
Grandmother: Arrely (deceased)

Mother’s side:
Grandfather: Bernn (deceased)
Grandmother: Lenda (deceased)
Parents :
Father: Carn (deceased)
Mother: Meya (deceased)
Siblings:

Distant relatives:
Not that he knows off.

Appearance:
Duncan appears often quite groomed. He often jokes that his beard is a source of his pride and joy. Though he isn't vain, Duncan does understand the importance of appearing somewhat groomed and kept. However, his clothing does represent his tastes quite well. They are focused on practical use rather than to display wealth or position - not that as a small lord, Duncan has an abundance of wealth.
What is further noticable about the appearance of Duncan is that he is rarely seen without a weapon. Let it be something as small as a seax or his hatchet, to his bastard sword. Though the harsh reality is that he won't be allowed to carry weapons to every meeting.

Loyalty:
Bannerman of House Ashwood.
Occupation:
The leader of House Ashwood.
Used to be a farmhand though.

Ambition(s):
Truth be told, Duncan doesn’t seem to uphold a lot of ambition. He is quite content with his place in life. Seeing that he started out as a simple man and is now in charge of a large village, he doesn’t yet have gained any aspiration to make a bigger name for himself.

Personality:
Duncan is considered by most folk as a direct person. He doesn’t always say what he has on his mind - for he is quite aware of what it means to be tactful. However, he doesn’t really seem to hide his opinion on people when he is conversing with them. This ranges from giving people nicknames to simply refusing to give a person the respect that they demand - which usually comes from the fact that Duncan values merit over inherited wealth and bloodline.

That comes without a saying that Duncan is a relatively loyal person. I mention relatively because he isn’t staunch loyal to a person or a cause. His first concern his own wellbeing. What follows next is usually what he feels most like - the usual friend and family affairs. This may come off that he is quite selfish but he does have some value to the people that are under his protection.

[ History ]
The History:
Duncan came into the world as the boy of a farmer. If one asks him, he likes to summarize his childhood as absolute crap. From the day that he was able to use his hands to be useful, he was set to work. Playtime was barely a thing for every spent on playing during the day was spend to help at the farm. Helping to set up fences, tend to the crops, harvest the crops, help to repair that old beam etc.
And when day turned into evening, young Duncan wouldn’t have much spirit or energy to play around. Not that he had much toys to play around with. Money was better spend on tools, clothing or food. The rare times that Duncan could play during his childhood was with the boys in the village of Fowlsfield with sticks, imitating to be soldiers or adventurers on a legendary quest. Or just for the fun of swinging a stick around and try to beat another that tries to swing a stick as well.

Matters would become more mature when Duncan started to reach the age of eleven. A common tradition in the Westerosi world is that boys often are being obligated to train once a week with peers. The old lord of Fowlsfield didn’t train Duncan or the other boys nor did his household guard. It were usually the men that had served in a previous campaign or just knew how to hold a spear or use a bow.
Despite some not liking the idea of young boys being taught how to use a weapon, Duncan looked forward to it each week. It was much more interesting than working as a farmhand and much better than to swing a stick around.

Weeks would pass into months and months declining into years, this cycle continuing until Duncan reached the age of sixteen. Despite being a brash young man, he would be forced to become the man of the house. His father perished, at the age of 52. The reasons? Unknown.
Now being the oldest man, Duncan had to work even twice. Even three times as hard as before, to take off some weight from his mother. No longer could he do what one would expect from his age - to now and then chase after the young lasses in the village and consider to build his own home.

Then the call to arms dawned upon the settlement of Fowlsfield. The Ironborn were apparently attempting to move their way through south, through the Neck. Where a keen military commander would consider such a move very reckless, it certainly fit with the Ironborn - who likely grew arrogant by their successful conquest of the Riverlands.
While Duncan was eager to indulge himself into some martial affairs, he didn’t have much. A simple shield, hatchet and spear was all that his father had left him. Using what money he had saved, he was capable to afford himself a gambeson but that was all he could muster without leaving his mother penniless.

The campaign south introduced Duncan to the harsh reality of war. Despite being at the age of 18 and quite accustomed to hardship, he hadn’t expected the bloodshed to be this heavy. During a skirmish, led by the previous lord of Fowlsfield, Duncan managed to save the life of his lord. This action wasn’t done out of charity but merely because Duncan already had engaged a few Ironborn and unknowingly bought time for his lord to make a safe retreat after being wounded.
The following day, Duncan received some honors and would be allowed a position within his lord’s household guard. Reluctantly, Duncan accepted it but still found himself stuck into the thick of the fight. It was where he would get to bond with another unlucky bastard, by the name of Sven.

Eventually, the campaign south would end with the Ironborn incursions being repelled. Upon the return north towards Fowlsfield, a rather grim event occured. The wounds that the old lord of Fowlsfield had received were starting to give way to a serious infection. Despite the best care, the old man passed away. Not before he had a final talk with the late lord Bearon. Who addressed Duncan and made him the next small-lord of Fowlsfield. Though somewhat confused by this new development, Duncan saw some opportunities arise. Namely that he no longer needed to work on a farm. That and now he could take real care for his mother.
Only for the sad news to reach him that his mother had passed away, a week or two before he would arrive back.

Saddened by his loss, Duncan did start to work on his new occupation as the new lord. Adopting the name of Ashwood, Duncan started to make work to bring new life into his small demense. The access to the ironmine would become better and Duncan started to involve himself more with the concern of the locals. He would allow to have a meeting point in front of his hall, so that he would become more acquainted with the people in his village. His once would be neighbours were now his subjects and despite the initial wariness towards Duncan being their appointed leader, he managed to win and charm the people of Fowlsfield. His background likely making it easier for him to become close and trusted. Not to mention that he frequented drank with his subjects, opening his own hall for it.

As the years would slowly pass, Fowlsfield would become more prosperous due to the ironmine and support that Duncan gave to the farmers. Even starting to become more involved with the other bannermen, of House Haerton. Which is partially thanks to his strong friendship with Sven and his daughter Liana, the later which Duncan even trains in learning how to ride a horse and swing a sword properly.
Last but not least, Duncan has become very fond of a newfound pet. A cat that goes by the name of 'Ser Whiskers'.

Skills and various Traits:
Duncan is a most capable fighter. Being in the prime of his life, he has managed to spend a good amount of time into refining his combat skills. This mostly goes for wielding a weapon in close quarters. For while Duncan has attempted to prevent his archery skill to rust, he is at best an average shot.
No, his true skill come into play when he is able to face an opponent in close quarters. His reflexes and strength allow him to stand his ground.

He has shown that he has the insight on how to lead most people around. Using various subtle techniques to make people relax and agree with him. Furthermore, Duncan has spend time to learn how to write and read - though he still find it tedious to write in a way that one can actually read his work, without the need to squint their eyes.
Furthermore, he is decent at riding horses and following tracks.

Description:

List of armour or attire.

Duncan has a few sets of clothing. Despite earning a steady revenue, compared to what he once had to contend himself with, Duncan is a modest man when it comes to fashion. He doesn’t like the elaborate fashion of higher nobility, opting for clothing that are relatively of good quality but don’t tend to come over as too posh.

Name:
Duncan’s Armour
Description:
This set of armour was originally not his but that of the previous lord. Coughing up the money for the armour to be refit to his measures - a sore point as Duncan still to this day believes he paid too much. The armour exists out of three layers. The first layer is padding clothing. This is followed by a chainmail hauberk. As last layer, Duncan wears a coat of plates. This combination provides aquadate protection from angry nobles, greedy bandits and desperate peasants.

Appearance:
Unkempt and wild-haired, rather stout for a woman

Loyalty:
Bannerman of House Ashwood.

Occupation:
Kennelmaster.

Ambition(s):
Tildy just wants a warm, full belly at the end of each day and to live until her hair is as white as Northern snow.

Personality:
Brutish, grumpy, anti-social, with very little ambition. Tildy isn't the type to have friends, unless the old men that drink and laugh with her at the inn count. She prefers the company of her hounds to anyone else's and is quite gruff and unladylike. She swears, often. Spits when it pleases her, and does very little of what one would expect of a woman; though a lot of what one would expect of a Northerner. She is easily angered when disrespected and rather rough with her affection, if it ever suits her to show it. She's a barterer by nature and loves an interesting gamble but isn't as unwise as her generally drunken, illiterate manner might disguise her as. Beneath her rough appearance, she's fairly intelligent with a mind for strategy; not that she's had very many instances in which she could prove it. She can't read or write, but she knows where she stands in the world and she knows what to do to keep herself fed and out of harm's way. Had she a bit more drive, she probably could've made something of herself but as it stands she's happy to be at the top of Fowlsfield's bottomfeeders and doesn't see any point in trying to earn a reputation more than the one she's already got.

Her pride is perhaps the only thing that drives her, as she has this constant nagging desire to always prove herself as just as strong and worthy as any man might be. When challenged, she will act; regardless of whether the odds are in her favor or not. She's won as many fights as she's lost and has risen more times than she's been kicked down. She's a strong woman, with little patience. A bit of a mischief-maker when bored, admittedly. Occasionally she questions why the fuck she's alive, considering how miserable the monotony of Fowlsfield can be; but usually only during a particularly downward spiraling drunkenness. A part of her craves something more but she hasn't even begun to fathom just what that something could possibly be.

She's a pessimist, having lived a hard life, and always prepares for the worst when given any daunting scenario; but that doesn't necessarily mean she'll shy from it. In fact, most of the time, her reckless behavior suggests she's daring life to do its worst. A self-fulfilling prophecy in the make, likely.

[ History ]

The History:
Tildy was found as a babe, abandoned to the wood surrounding Fowlsfield; half-starved and nearly frozen to death, likely given over to the elements by a poor commoner woman who already had too many mouths to feed.

She was found by a man known to the North as Tully; Fowlsfield’s former kennelmaster. He was a gruff man with little love in his heart for anyone other than himself and he treated Tildy more like one of his hounds than a daughter. Though, she was more useful in that she could run his more tedious errands for him and could be expected to have a warm dinner waiting for him after a day’s work.

Tully did not love Tildy, nor did she love him, but each held a begrudging respect for the other that only grew as Tildy aged. Because of the work Tully expected from her, Tildy grew to be more stout than supple. Many mistook her for a lad, when she was young, and she very rarely corrected anyone on it. She was happy, covered in dirt and surrounded by her hounds. She found a grim satisfaction in completing the tasks Tully asked of her, whether it be chopping wood or bartering for a bit of ale or taking care of the kennel when he was too drunk to do so himself. Occasionally, she would partake in a bit of rough-housing with the rest of the common-born children, gleefully wrestling any boy into submission whenever her womanhood was challenged. When Tully passed (drank himself to death, was what she told anyone that asked), Tildy buried his body by a tree as gnarled and ugly as the man himself. She hasn’t visited the otherwise unmarked grave since, and thinks that’s probably how he would have preferred it.

After his death, Tildy inherited the kennels because no one else felt particularly inclined to take over the work themselves. She's managed to make a bit of a name for herself, not just in Fowlsfield but in the areas surrounding it as one of the best kennelmasters the North has to offer; specializing not just in hunting hounds, but guard dogs and battle hounds as well.

[ Skills and Gear]

Skills and various Traits:
If asked, Tildy would say the skill that has come in handy to her the most throughout her life was her uncanny ability to adapt and survive. She's quite knowledgeable when it comes to the North and is confident she'd be able to survive even the bleakest of winters. She's good with animals. Hounds in particular, obviously, and she can hunt quite well; not just with a bow, but also with all sorts of different traps, and the help of her dogs. Though she's not particularly adept at dueling, she knows how to swing both a sword and an axe in a way that will kill a man if she's angry enough. Thanks to her rather unruly youth and unusual leg & arm strength, she's also found herself to be quite the grappler.

Last but not least, she's quite sure she could drink the whole of Fowlsfield under the table... if someone else was buying, of course.

Liana character sheet looks great!
I am looking forward to read more about her.

@Nim

Sven seems very interesting. His backstory is quite grim but that makes him fit perfectly in.

@Gerontis

I like how Duncan remained himself after the development he went through. Really curious to see how he will interact with other characters!
Lovely job!

@E.B.

Hello! I just read your post on the interest thread. We have a discord open and I will send you a link after I am done with the reviews.
Regarding your character, I would say that you did a great job. I do need to say that the plate armour depicted in her character image might be a bit too expensive. An iron sword isn't as durable as steel and I can accept it got traded for a trained dog. But is the plate armour also made out of iron or more durable steel? Cause if it is steel, I think the cost would be quite a lot - for a kennelmaster.

Perhaps we can discuss and talk a bit about it? I have some ideas on how to make it happen and perhaps give them some interesting twists.

@Akashi

The character sheet looks fine. Though I assume that with:
The armor is basically boiled leather, with some plated armor around the forearms.
You mean vambraces? Just a bit of terminology. Not required to edit but just thought I should point it out if you were looking for the specific term.

Loyalty: House Bearon

Occupation: Lord of House Bearon

Ambition(s): To rule the North as King.

Theme:

Personality:
A calm, reserved person, Drevyn prefers not to have to raise his voice, but demands respect from those who serve him. He detests people who speak without thinking, and he is more then willing to call out any who he feels have trespassed upon his honor or the honor of his house. He is unafraid to bring himself to blows with his enemies, and he is generous in his rewards to his friends.

[ History ]
The History:
Drevyn has always known himself to be destined for greatness. Brought up from a very young age to believe himself worthy to lead the house of Bearon and eventually rule the North, and doted on by his father and mother, Drevyn developed a sense of pride early on. As he grew older he was taught many skills that were expected of a lord of the North. Swordfighting, riding a horse, and archery, but also the names and mottos of the various houses of Westeros, the art of striking a deal with another Lord. He would learn how to command an army and prepare a castle for defense against a siege. He would also learn how to coexist with with his father’s bastard. Though he was not overly fond of the sister that his father gave him out of wedlock, he did not necessarily hate her, though his mother was no fan of the child.

As he grew, Drevyn found himself picking more and more fights over the honor of his household. Children would sometimes pick the wrong moment to criticize his father for the bastard child he had, or would question whether Drevyn was fit to really take over for his father. This would cost those children fat lips or black eyes, and even though he did not always win the fights he got into, Drevyn was never afraid to defend his honor and pride. As he aged these fights would change from fist fights to duels with swords, and Drevyn became known as an excellent duelist. Peace was not always know throughout the time Drevyn grew up though, and when he was sixteen the Bearon’s went to war. Drevyn, a promising warrior already, was given a small command of fifty cavalry. During the war, he would earn the name “Ironskin” for his habit for charging into battle at the head of his troops, but never sustaining injuries in the fight.

This is where his ambition to be king truly was born, as he grew he realized his house, and him by extension, were simply pawns to be used by the Starks. He felt dishonored to have to answer anyone, and though he resolved to play nice with the King he swore fealty to, a resentment in his heart began to build for those that would consider themselves to be his betters. He swore on day that he would be the one who the lords would lick the boots of.

As he grew older and became twenty, the sudden passing of his father would thrust the burden of leadership upon the young Bearon. As Lord of the Bearon, he first was forced to swear fealty to the Starks of Winterfell, then to contend with the would be pretenders to his titles. The Langdales had been long time enemies of the Bearons, and as such Drevyn hated them. They had first become problems during the reign of his father, boldly attempting to take the lands of the Bearons by force, however the Starks had called a halt to the fighting. With the death of his father and the weakening of the Starks however, the Langdales had already turned back to incursions into his lands to attempt to remove his territory out from under him. Then there was the house of the Norcross. The fools were interested in taking his territory as well. Though smaller, the Norcross were wealthier, and instead of turning to troops, turned to bribes to attempt to make claims. Drevyn is not one easily discouraged however, and has resolved to defeat them all. Now, in the cusp of the first year of his reign over his new titles, Drevyn is for

[ Skills and Gear]
Skills and various Traits:
-Daring Leader: It goes without saying that Drevyn Ironskin is a daring commander. He often chooses to lead his troops from the front, and is willing to take risks that others may be afraid to during battle.

-Renowned as Ironskin: The name Ironskin has outshown the name Drevyn in the north. As such, it can be guaranteed that although not all may know the name of Drevyn, most will at least know the name Ironskin, and recognize it.

-Unflinching: Drevyn is not one to easily change direction. He has proven time and time again, that despite setbacks, he is willing to stay the course and ride out the storm, rather then be fickle and change his ways easily. Once he selects a path, he can be guaranteed to follow it.

-Tested Diplomat: Though he is young, Drevyn has already proven to know his way around the field of diplomacy. Though he is no prodigy by any means, he is certainly no buffoon, and is likely to see through deals that cut against him.

List of weapons.

Name: Icebane
Description: A blade that Drevyn has had since he first went to battle, this hand and a half sword carries the marks of quite a few battles. It has taken it’s fair share of lives, and has protected Drevyn on quite a few occasions from having his own stolen away.
Appearance:
A simple hand and a half sword made of steel. It is battleworn, but looks to be well taken care of.

List of armour or attire.

Name: Half Plate Armor
Description: A set of half plate the encompasses a breastplate, pauldrons, greaves, and gauntlets.

Dyanne Snow

Personal Motto:

"Destiny, is all."

[ Personal Information ]

Name:
Dyanne Snow

Aliases:
‘Cupbearer’, by some.
‘Little Cub’, by Duncan Ashwood.
Gender:
Female.
Age:
Born 15 years after the TD (after the Doom) on 4th of August, making her 15 years old.

Length and body build:
Dyanne has a height of 1.73m / 5ft 8. She has an athletic body, which is due to her work and tasks. She seems to have the psychical development of an older teen.

Weight:
Dyanne weighs around 70 Kilograms / 154 pounds.

Sexuality:
Dyanne may be interested in men.

Grandparents:
From her father’s side.
Father: Carn (deceased)
Mother: Meya (deceased)

From her mother’s side:
Father: Bryce
Mother: Elen

Parents :
Father: Duncan Ashwood
Mother: Celia

Siblings:
None.
Distant relatives:
From her father’s side:
Uncle WIP

‘Uncle’ Sven, the hunter from the place Haerton.
‘Niece’ Liana, the daughter of Uncle Sven from Haerton.

Appearance:
Dyanne is a somewhat tall girl for the age of '15-16'. She has raven black hair and a fair complexion. Her eyes seem to be a tad pale blue but this is likely due to her complexion. She does seem to share a few similar features as Duncan, such as their nose and the way that they smile. Features that seem small but sparks out when the two are together.

Loyalty:
Bannerman of Ashwood.
Occupation:
Serving currently as cupbearer to Lord Ashwood and being somewhere as his ‘unofficial herald’ in Fowlsfield.

Ambition(s):
Her current ambitions aren’t really grand. She desires to be seen more than as a bastard, the mere product of what happened between two teens that were briefly attracted to one another. Though not certain how to achieve this, Dyanne doesn’t hold the illusion that she will be more than what people see her as: a mere bastard.
She does have the idea to one day travel to warmer places, for she has heard stories of places that are apparently filled up with sand or a total new continent.

Personality:
Dyanne tends to be seen as a shy or introvert person. She doesn’t seem to enjoy attention. Though this can be blamed on the mere fact that she is quite self-conscious about her origin. With some people refer to her simply as ‘Snow’, this has become a stain on her confidence.
Within company that she feels comfortable in, Dyanna can open up - like snow melting when the warm rays of the sun hit. She is quite curious and willing to learn more about the world, in particular about the south of the Neck.

Furthermore, Dyanne can be quite blunt. This is likely blamed on her father, Duncan, who can be quite ‘direct’. But in most company, Dyanne does refrain from cursing or using strong language.

[ History ]
The History:
The story of Dyanne starts in shame and embarrassment. Her mother was nothing more than a young lass that worked at her father’s inn. During the more turbulent times when the Ironborn attempted to attack the North, foolishly attempting to go through the Neck, her mother would meet with a young man from farther north.
This meeting would escalate into a romantic activity in a stable between Dyanne’s mother and the young lad. It would have been fine if that exchange wouldn’t wind up in Dyanne growing within the womb of her mother. Though some methods were attempted to get rid of Dyanne before she would even breath air through her own lungs, she would be born nine months later.

The choice that her mother had were to either abandon her in the wild or keep her. While it was tempting to do the draconic method to leave the newborn babe in the wild, her mother had a different idea. For never would the shame be washed away, not with Dyanne’s death.
Instead her mother intently listened to rumours of what occurred further down south. There was a chance that the young lad would return on his way back north, likely traveling the same path with the others as they had did to march south.
The chance was there that Dyanne’s father could have died in a skirmish as a nobody. Or got lost after a fight in the swamps of the Neck. But her mother was determined and it seemed that the Gods favoured Dyanne’s mother.
Cause the young man that came back wasn’t the same as the one that had shared the hay with Dyanne’s mother. By the luck, directly from the Gods it seemed, the young man was now a small lord. Confronting the young man in person about the product of their romantic night, Dyanne would be handed over to Duncan. All for a small sum of money being later send to Dyanne’s mother.

Taken further north, Dyanne would be destined to grow and life in her father’s hall. Though her father acknowledged her as one of his own, she would bear the name of ‘Snow’. Unless by some miracle, the Starks would legitimize her. But that would be very unlikely for an unknown small lord that barely seemed interested to meddle with other nobles.

As Dyanne grew up, she would have the luck to be allowed to live in her father’s manor. Under his protection and roof, she would in any case be sleeping with a belly full of food and enjoy a hearth’s warmth.
But that didn’t make life easy for her. For she had to work for her share of food and her place underneath her father’s roof. The first task was rather simple. Even giving the idea that her father cared for her. It was to be his dear, little cupbearer.

If she would only stay small and young, she would have only kept such a simple task. With her body developing and growing some more muscle, Dyanne would be send on all kinds of errands. Delivering a verbal message to folk of Fowlsfield. Helping out a hand with a farmer that direly needed help. Carry heavy tools that were produced by the smiths, to be brought to the market.
Whereas a daughter of nobility perhaps dreamt of fine jewelry, dresses and even finer men to spend time with, Dyanne all dreamt of keeping her place in her father’s manor. For as she grew up, her understanding of her situation started to grow.

And if by any chance her father would get wed and receive a son, Dyanne’s chance of keeping her own small room and somewhat good life would be gone.
Just like snow, melting from the warmth of a summer sun.

To increase her chance to become loved by her father would make her start to show an interest in what her father loved. She would learn where to get the best ale. What kind of songs he enjoyed the most during drinking. And starting to learn how to swing a weapon or two.
Though granted, she would wind up injuring herself far more often than progressing to learn and advance into martial prowess.
Yet, her work would show its results as Dyanne would one day be refrained from her usual heavy labour. Waking up a morning, Duncan would instruct her to get dressed and head outside with him. Once outside, Dyanne’s confusion would turn into joy and later blue bruises as her father started to instruct her how to properly wield a blade.

Theme music:

[ Skills and Gear]
Skills and various Traits:
Dyanne has a decent voice to sing with. She has a good memory, quick to remember something that happened or what a person likes. Thanks to her father, she has learned how to wield some weapons rather decently. Though she lacks the brute strength that her father or other men have, she has agility and finesse to make up for it.

Furthermore, she has good stamina and has proven herself to be quick on her feet. If it counts for anything, Dyanne also possess a healthy amount of patience to endure people or watch from the background, content with just observing..

Dyanne doesn’t have the steel armour. But just a fun image to use.

Name:
Bearclaw
Description:
A fine steel one-hand-and-half sword. Though there is no way in Seven Hells that Dyanne could afford a weapon such as this as her own, it was gifted to her by her father on her 15th name day. Ever since then, it has become Dyanne’s most prized and valuable possession.
Appearance:

Name:
Dyanne’s knife.
Description:
Nothing really interesting, really. It is a sharp knife that goes along on the weaponbelt, that has the scabbard of Bearclaw.
Appearance:

List of armour or attire.

The usual clothing that Dyanne wears are of decent quality. This is thanks to the generosity of her father, Duncan Ashwood. Most of her attires are quite simple and this is likely both due to her status as her own preference. With simple attires of dull colours, it is much easier for her to fade away from the attention of people.

Name:
Dyanna’s ‘Gear’.
Description:
Though it isn’t in a large sense protective as the leather isn’t able to resist sharp steel weapons - not in the sense that one will be comfortable with it on a battlefield situation. It is the gear that Dyanna wears often when practicing her skills or when she has to present herself as cupbearer of Lord Ashwood during ‘formal events’ in Fowlsfield.

Older Brother || Captain of the Guards for Lord Manderley

Appearance:
Most will see Ser Trevas sport a dark colored short-sleeved gambeson - counteracting the Northern weathers. Underneath he wears a laced up green long sleeve shirt, dark pants and high top boots. To battle he prefers to trade out everything for darker colors - preferably black. He primarily wears his Knight armor - a cuirass over his torso, a pauldron set over his shoulders and a rerebrace and vambrace on his left arm - keeping his sword hand/arm free of restraint. His darkened crimson hair fades away slightly as he ages, but remains unspoiled by time.
176475
176473

Loyalty:
Previous: House Manderley
Current: Bannermen of Haerton

Occupation:
Previous: Sworn Sword of Lord Torrin Manderley
Current: Commoner of House Haerton

Ambition(s):
To travel the seas of Westeros in times of peace and prosperity. To see the beauties of the world through the eyes of a simple man and retire his sword once and for all.

Personality:
Ser Trevas has proven himself a wise and stalwart knight. A man driven by honorable feats of courage and strength. Despite being known through the northern continents as a combat hero, Ser Trevas sees himself as just a man - yielding his blade as an ambassador of peace, not a bringer of war. When given voice, Ser Trevas speaks with respect and honesty - his most distinctive trait.

He is very polite and courteous as to never offend. However, he carries himself confidently and intelligently. He has a soothing tone of voice which he does not use maliciously - despite being truthfully cold sometimes. He yearns for worldwide peace, to both North and South of Westeros. He is loyal to his cause and those that can bring the resolve. Despite passiveness, he is a Knight, sworn to protect the realms of men honorably and fairly - with and without blade.

[ History ]
The History:
Current -
Battle worn, Trevas Manderley has traveled further North to escape the embers of war and retire from knighthood. He has devoted his entire upbringing to end man’s thirst for battle, slaying ravenous men that yearned for blood and glory. A heart like his however was better applied behind the scenes, away from the chaos. Trevas is an honorable Knight spending his last days in Haerton. However, war brews and he must rise from retirement yet again.

Previous -
Born a Manderley, Trevas fought with ideologies that were not his own. The northern deception of false gods escaped his family and ancestral line. Instead the Manderley’s adopted the Faith of the Seven - keeping traditions from the south since after the Andal Invasion. Trevas however had always felt the hardships of religion and till this day does not rally behind treacherous deities. He feels that Gods who force their children to fight are worse than the devils they oppose.

Instead he follows his heart, a man driven by the desire for freedom - not only his own but that of all men. He’s an oath keeper, an attribute instilled to him through Knighthood - an honor obtained after the Battle for Oldcastle*.

Despite being the Sworn Sword and third son of Lord Torrin Manderley, Ser Trevas’ personal favors were called upon him at an unconventional time. Back when the Ironborn first attacked the western coasts, the Manderley’s wealth and resources were pivotal to the survival of many northern allies. They’re ability to supply fresh seafood, oils and soldiers helped defend against the first incursions. It was during these times in which Ser Trevas and Late Lord Cullen of Haerton became close friends - practically brothers. With mutual respect and similar ideologies, it was unmistakably true that these two men bloomed from the same tree. They both wanted to better the lives of many by hurting the lives of few. The ensuing conflict however kept the two men on separate sides of the battlefield. Ser Trevas however pledged that when Lord Cullen needed him, he would be there. The time came with Lord Cullen’s passing.

For years now Ser Trevas has lived in Haerton as a retired knight - keeping a close eye on Lord Cullen’s only child. Under the leadership of the strong and beautiful Lady Eyme, Haerton has prospered greatly in the last decade. Despite being a female, she has shown traits of being a capable leader - honesty, integrity, commitment, passion and accountability to name a few. However, she is not experienced in war and one is coming.

As the North turns in unimaginable ways, Ser Traves prepares to use his high status as a Knight and connections in Westeros to ensure Haerton continues to triumph in the upcoming war. His hope is that Lady Eyme makes history and changes the world for dreamers like him.

*Battle for Oldcastle -
Trevas was knighted after defending the eastern coast during the Battle for Oldcastle. Story tells that Trevas Manderley put hundreds of invading pirates to rest, burying the the sea with the dead. He walked over their corpses slaying hundreds more until the battle was won. This earned him the title of Trevas the Seawalker.

Theme music:
- Will Update -

[ Skills and Gear]
Skills and various Traits:
Ser Trevas is known for his service under House Manderley and his ability with a longsword. As the previous Sworn Sword of Lord Torrin Manderley, his knowledge of Westeros grew with every meeting in the northern districts and his war experience multiplied after every battle. However, diplomacy became the central focus of any victory.

As war begins, his diplomatic stance remains - ready to use his reach as both a well known Knight and relations he built over time to better House Haerton and their quest for peace.

In addition to politics, his swordsmanship is exemplary - a reason he gained his knighthood in the first place. In his prime his ability with a longsword was like no other, but he ages day by day and doesn’t have the same spunk he once had. He however trains continuously and will forever remain one of the most experienced swordsman in the north. His devotion to House Haerton is also unmatched. His oath to late Lord Cullen remains his singular focus - to keep his children safe. Seeing his daughter rise as a beautiful and strong leader would make her father proud.

- Ferron-

Personal Motto
"I'll fix it."

[ Personal Information ]

Name:
Ferron

Aliases:
None

Gender:
Male

Age:
22 | Born 10 years after the Doom of Valyria

Length and body build:
180kg / 5'11" | Ferron is well built without being bulky, well suited to his line of work.

Weight:
191 / 86kg

Sexuality:
Heterosexual

Parents:
Leina and Brynden

Siblings:
Sera (Deceased)

Appearance:

Messy brown hair, dull hazel eyes, but an otherwise well groomed appearance for a smith. He prefers loose, practical clothing; if he can move well and swing a sword in it, it's good enough. The color green oft finds itself a place among his chosen attire. He is missing his right ring finger up to the second knuckle, and bears several burn scars in the underside of his left wrist.

Loyalty:

Bannerman of House Ashwood

Occupation:

Blacksmith (Journeyman)

Ambition(s):

He is quite satisfied with his lot in life, thank you very much.

Personality:

Ferron is a verbally combative, mercurial person. Those who know him deem him little more than a simple smith with nothing but iron and steel on the mind. Maybe they are right; he is hardly a gifted conversationalist, nor does he seem to have the wits or skill to discuss much else beyond his trade. He makes a poor listener.

His scathing sense of humor and taste for flatly delivered sarcasm goes unappreciated in most cases. He is defensive about his own skills and station in life, prone to stress over the smallest things, and is an exceedingly devoted perfectionist. Although his opinions are not easily soured, the friendship of a blacksmith ought to be nurtured if one ever hopes to survive the next battle.

At least he is dutiful, and not prone to distractions. It can be rather difficult to get him away from the forge, no matter the offer.

[ History ]
History:

Ferron was born to Brynden and Leina in the village of Fowlsfield. He was a rowdy boy who fell sick frequently and would not have made it into childhood at had he not been so stubbornly clinging to life.

As a child, he had no particular interests or skills outside of exploring, but he was driven, and more useful to his father the stonemason than he ever was to his mother back home, so Ferron learned tools. Hammers, trowels, chisels, each improving his dexterity and willingness to learn as he aged. He was nothing more than an aide to his father, and he work was difficult for a small child such of six, but Ferron enjoyed himself nonetheless.

His fascination with the tools led to an interest in weaponry, and coupled with his mother's wild tales of powerful swordsmen and warriors, Ferron soon lost interest in masonry altogether and begged his father for work elsewhere.

The life of a stonemason paid little, but Brynden was a hopeful man. A smith earned more than double the pay, and the skill would be far more valuable in the coming days that his own, so over the course of the next five years, Brynden saved. The only smith in the village was a man named Calain, short on years but willing to teach for a price. Ferron was taking under the man's wing, where he began his apprenticeship with vigor at the age of eleven.

At six-and-ten, Ferron's mother and father reluctantly left Fowlsfield. An injury left Brynden unable to continue his work, but there was fertile farmland down south and plenty of easy work that would afford a fine lifestyle now that Ferron was no longer under their guardianship. At this age, Ferron didn't mind-- his life revolved around his work and the girl at the nearby tavern, and that was all he needed. He bid them farewell and did not receive word from them for three more years.

At nine-and-ten, a letter informing him of the birth of a sister arrived. Sera, far smaller than he had been but just as sickly. His father could barely read or write, but his letters got the point across, and Ferron was, in a way, happy for them. Ferron adored this unknown child even as their correspondence slowed, until the last letter informed him of Sera's death by fever; he did not hear from his parents again.

Presumably, he lost most of his finger following the loss. Carelessness leads to scars, after all, and though well trained, he is not perfect, and his hammer is not always true. He keeps the letter nearby, opened and read only once.

Ferron graduated from his apprenticeship at the age of twenty-one, only months before Calain's death. With little family left, Ferron is loyal only to himself and House Ashwood, but harbors no disdain for his lot in life. It’s a simple life, a purposeful life, and he enjoys it as best he can.

[ Skills and Gear]
Skills and various Traits:

Ferron’s most notable talents are smithing and swordsmanship. He is a reasonably capable reader and writer thank to his former mentor (though his penmanship could use serious work).

List of weapons.

Name:

Biter

Description:

Smithed by Ferron's own hands. The name is more an endearment than an actual name, as it is nicely sharpened and well made. Though Ferron is not a master swordsman, he can hold his own in a duel.

Appearance:

medieval-long-sword.jpg

List of armour or attire.

Ferron doesn’t wear much armor beyond basic leathers, and has no need of armor. Does, however, own a half-completed hauberk.

Description:

Simple leather jerkin atop a doublet, often worn beneath a thick green cloak to shield from the cold when not working.

Appearance:

All of Ferron's clothing is worn and used. The brown leather ties of his jerkin have been falling apart for months, and his doublet is wasting away at the wrist for even longer. Both appear to have suffered the same burns he has despite not often wearing much more than a simple tunic when at work in the forge.

The cloak has suffered much less abuse. It's a rich, dark green, embroidered in silver at the edges and sporting a high collar. It just barely reaches his ankles. It is the most expensive item Ferron owns.

Time for me to review:

I won't review my own product though.

A few points that I would like to see remedied:

Short-spoken and stoic, Ser Trevas calls upon favors and oaths to get the job done.
I am not sure if I missed anything - unless Oetje or Jason were informed of anything and didn't yet indulge me into it - but what favours or oaths can he call in?
He moved from his house to basically retire. And seems he is a knight without any land or servants of his own.

His ability with a longsword has proven unrivaled.
Very dangerous sentence. I am not a big fan of these cause it basically entitles a character to just proclaim that they are the best by mere merit of backstory. I understand that he is quite experienced but I am not feeling well on the term 'unrivaled'.

Common steel sword used by most soldiers. No special background, name or history.
Nothing too big. But just to make sure that this won't be mistaken later: swords are not that usual for soldiers of common origin. Spears, axes and maces pretty much dominate the weaponry of the common soldier - because they are cheaper to make and maintain than a sword.

If I miss anything or you want to reply, I recommend to do so through discord. I can react faster there and we won't clog up the OOC.

@Dipper

Ambition(s):

He is quite satisfied with his lot in life, thank you very much.
Oh yeah? He doesn't want to get rich, old and fat?

Accepted, smith's boy.

- Bredon Ashwood -

5uABhVz.jpg

Personal Motto:
"Keep your blades sharp and your mind sharper."

[ Personal Information ]

Name: Bredon Ashwood

Aliases: None

Gender: Male

Age: Twenty-Six
Born on 13 June in the year 6 TD.

Length and body build:
Bredon stands 5'11"/180 cm tall and has a lean, muscled build.

Weight:
Bredon weights roughly 175 pounds/79 kilograms/12.5 stone.

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Grandparents:
Father’s side:
Grandfather: Tarner (deceased)
Grandmother: Arrely (deceased)

Mother’s side:
Grandfather: Bernn (deceased)
Grandmother: Lenda (deceased)

Parents :
Father: Carn (deceased)
Mother: Meya (deceased)

Siblings:
Duncan Ashwood (Older Brother)

Distant relatives:
Dyanne Snow (Niece)

Appearance:
A practical fellow, Bredon is almost never seen in anything lavish, regardless of the circumstances. The primary colors he wears outside of the typical greys, blacks, whites, and tans of the North are simple greens and browns that once served as rudimentary camouflage in the bogs and swamps of the Neck. He tends to keep his dark brown hair on the shorter side, seldom going longer than the base of his skull, and keeps his facial hair trimmed and close to his face most of the time. He as a short scar across the bridge of his nose and various others across his body.

Loyalty: House Ashwood

Occupation:
Sworn Sword and Advisor to House Ashwood.
Formerly a farmhand.

Ambition(s):
Not the most ambitious person, Bredon mainly wishes to right by his brother, his niece, and (by extension) House Ashwood. While some part of him wants to leave his mark on the world at large, he is currently content with smaller ambitions to collect and gather knowledge that he can use to help guide his brother's decisions.

Personality:
Ever the younger brother, Bredon reflexively tries to keep from drawing much attention to himself and letting others hold the present attention. He's more than happy to take one's ear off when offered the chance but seldom lunges at the opportunity to do so. His silence is by no means an indication of any distaste or cowardice but serves to be rather emblematic of a certain patience he bears in most situations. Bredon himself as a strong sense of determination and will, and as such keeps firmly to what few ideals one can keep to in Westeros. He shows some potential to be a leader and doesn't mind taking charge when needed, but still prefers to keep his head down.

His curious mind, however, has always driven him on a quest to learn whatever he could, when he could while having strong powers of retention. In his curiosity, Bredon tends to be a rather keen observer of everything in eyesight and rather unafraid of eavesdropping from across the room if he finds the discussion interesting enough to bear. When confronted with a conflict, he typically sees violence as a last course of action and prefers to use his wit and his guile to resolve said conflicts. This should not be mistaken as him being afraid of violence, however, as he is more than willing to come to the defense of others.

[ History ]
The History:
Bredon was born the second son of a farmer, meaning his destiny was set to work the fields for his father until the time came to either work for his brother or to find work elsewhere. Before he was old enough to be sent to work with his older brother in the fields, he worked around the house and the barn. And even when he was old enough to work in the fields, he didn't complain. After all, he had no interest nor time in seeking to play with the other children of the village. His time in town was usually spent wandering around and watching interesting things, as there were few children in the village around his age.

As soon as his brother was old enough to begin training with the other boys, the younger brother often followed his elder sibling to the village in order to watch the elder boys fight and train, watching and learning from them well before he himself was allowed to begin. He was utterly fascinated, taking to examining and dissecting their techniques and their combat styles, occasionally whispering what he discovered to his older brother so that he could better thrash the other boys in the village. When the time came for his own training under the village instructors to begin, he first tried to fight like his brother, only to find that didn't have his brother's raw strength. After getting a scar across his nose from his foolishness, the young boy learned to adapt, and not just to exploit whatever knowledge he could gather. Two years later, when he was thirteen, he saw his father die of an unknown cause.

Given the age gap between himself and his older brother, Bredon was passed over in the first levy of soldiers from Fowlsfield, leaving him to tend to the farm alone with his mother and care for her when she was in ill-health. When a second levy for troops was made a year later, Bredon was conscripted at the age of sixteen alongside men who were only older than him by a couple of years and a few older men who had not yet made their way down to fight in the bogs and swamps of the Neck. Bredon did the best he could to arrange for the care of his mother with their neighbors, taking some preserved food and his seax as he marched with the marshaled Stark forces.

His training began as soon as he was pulled from the levy and marked for the light infantry, the scouting forces. The older soldiers began to instruct him in the tricks of the trade; how to track enemy troop movements, how to fight with whatever he could scavenge, how to ride on horseback, and how to survive in the wilds for days on end. There was one problem, however: being a scout required him to be literate. As this seemed to be a common concern regarding new conscripts, great pains were taken to ensure that all the newly levied scouts could, read, write, and perform basic mathematics. Even with these new skills, Bredon sought to learn all that he could do to ensure his survival, using his natural tendency to stay out of the spotlight to keep himself concealed.

Certain parts of the years-long campaign became a blur, while others became all too real. Sometimes, it seemed like the only thing that could keep Bredon going was the desire to learn more and find a weakness to end this conflict quicker. He just fought to live another day. It was rare for him to encounter his brother given he very rarely delivered information to any of the nobility after being so low on the totem pole. Eventually, he lived longer than enough of the other conscripts he met to become a sergeant among the light infantry. The increase in rank didn't change incite a change in his duties outside of being deemed as more acceptable to relay reports to the officers and nobles.

When the conflict was over, Bredon wasn't quite sure what he was to do with himself. He supposed if he couldn't find the farm work he knew, he would likely turn to be a sellsword. As soon it was possible, he reunited with his brother permanently. Receiving the news of their mother's death, his brother's rise to the nobility, and the existence of his niece, Bredon swore himself to his brother's service, believing that the Old Gods had revealed to him what his new path in life was to be. Adopting the surname "Ashwood" alongside his elder brother, he took to his new role as a sworn sword and an advisor to his brother.

From that point forward, Bredon immersed himself in the books of the newly rechristened Ashwood Manor, seeking to attain a new understanding of the world around him in order to better guide his brother and do his part around Fowlsfield.

[ Skills and Gear]
Skills and various Traits:

Regarding his mental skills, Bredon's natural curiosity lends itself to his ability to learn and decipher new information quickly, something he can capitalize on due to his literacy. He can also be an effective diplomat given some time to prepare, but pushing him into that role on-the-spot won't have the best outcome. Otherwise, Bredon can read people fairly well and has a strong sense of when and where to share information with the people who need it most.

When it comes to his physical skills, many of Bredon's non-agrarian skills come from his training from his time in the Northern army and his time learning from the village men-at-arms when he began to spar. He is fairly proficient with most weapons (not good, not bad, just proficient) one could find on a battlefield, but is only especially good with swords, daggers, and spears. He is also a strong equestrian and can fight on horseback with a small amount of skill, but nothing that could rival the finesse of the northern cavalrymen. His abilities are notably strong, however, when it comes to his survival, reconnaissance, and evasion skills.

List of weapons.

Name:
Oathsworn
Description:
Bredon's hand-and-a-half steel bastard sword, which he took from the body of an Ironborn on the battlefield after his previous sword broke during combat. When Bredon reunited with his brother after he had been made the small-lord, he gave his oath to be Duncan's loyal advisor and his sworn sword, which led to the naming of this weapon.

Name:
Bredon's Long Dagger
Description:
A double-edged weapon Bredon purchased during his time as a scout. It serves as his immediate backup weapon as well as his weapon of choice for use in the off-hand. The dagger's length makes it a viable option to parry enemy attacks in close quarters. Bredon also uses this dagger when he chooses to grant the gift of mercy to an enemy combatant.
Appearance:
176562

Name:
Bredon's Seax
Description:
Bredon's first weapon, he's had this hefty, single-edged seax since well before his conscription into the Starks' army. It remains well cared-for after years of use and primarily sees use as a survival and utility tool more than as a combat weapon at the moment.
Appearance:

List of armor or attire.

Name:
Bredon's Armor
Description:
Having worn this armor during his tenure as a light infantry scout, Bredon's armor primarily consists of a brigandine and a long gambeson (denoted as such due to its sleeve length and the fact it reaches his knees). Over the years, he has added steel vambraces and greeves, a chainmail coif, and a singe-piece brigandine gorget and pauldrons. Once he has accumulated the funds necessary, he intends to purchase a hauberk in the event of a return to war. He often wears his green cloak over his armor when not in combat.

  • Lady Brylee of House Bearon

Full Name: Brylee Antonia of House Bearon

Aliases: None that she is aware of

    Age: 23

    Gender: Female

Length and Body Build: 5'3"/162 cm, Inverted Triangle

    Weight: 127 lbs, 58 kg

    Sexuality: Undefined

    Religion: The Old Gods

    Loyalty: House Bearon

Occupation: Lady of House Bearon, Courtier

Ambition(s): She wants a notable place in a man’s world.

    Theme Song(s): brylee oc

  • Skills:
Close Quarter Combat - Five years of learning in secrecy, as there is no doubt that her parents would disapprove of her learning how to wield a dagger. She learned basic foot movement, different types of daggers, the history of daggers, as well as how to outsmart her foe with different strategies and precisely where to hit for the quickest death.

Cross Stitching - 18 years. As a young lady, she was taught how to weave, as was customary for a daughter of proper nobility.

Archery - 13 years. She learned from

Horseback Riding - 16 years. Side saddle was what she was primarily taught, however, since her early teenage years, she has since rode her horse the wrong way for a lady and claims that it's much more comfortable that way.

Dance - 18 years. If her parents wanted her to thrive in court, as much as she disliked it, Brylee learned the art of dance and expression.

    Personality:
Brylee is a proud, bold woman with an agenda of her own. She dislikes conforming to societal standards, however, understands her obligations to keep her family’s reputation in line. Although she knows it’s her duty to keep her mouth shut and chin up, often her stupidity and stubbornness are carried out onto the backs of her siblings- Drevyn, especially. Her mother has been putting in effort to arrange a marriage for her in hopes that she will get her ass whipped into shape and realize the reality of her status. So far, she’s refused to yield in playing the role of a typical lady and seeks adventure in places no lady should traverse, especially alone. She leads very much a double life, you could say, wanting to go where her heart takes her, but also being bound by duty and an obligation to the honor and reputation of her household.

  • To say that Brylee was born a wild child is an understatement. Brylee was like a gambling game— unpredictable, yet savvy. She enjoyed riding her horse, flirting with men, and teasing her younger brother, Devryn. She was a young courtier with a fiery disposition, many often joked that no man would be able to handle her ferocity and bold opinions. Brylee disliked the jokes with sexual undertones and quickly became uncomfortable at court at a young age, where her parents had sent her to become a bride for a wealthy man. She searched for another outlet and found close quarter combat with daggers and archery a thrill. As time went on though, Brylee's close quarter combat teacher became someone she tread dangerous waters with despite what would happen if they were found out.

At fifteen years younger than him and simply being her teacher, it was completely inappropriate for Brylee to form a romantic relationship with him like so. Their relationship could get them both in trouble and when Brylee's teacher backed down from teaching her further, she became distraught and possessive. He left the Baeron household, finding no more reason to stay primarily because of rumors floating around that seemed to subtly reference Brylee and him. Brylee effectively shot down any lingering suspicions, however, she found it difficult to continue with her life somewhat at peace. Her life's karmic nature did not end there, however.

Brylee's family wanted her to be engaged through an arranged marriage to try and erase the stain, as she was still deemed a virgin by their physician. Brylee despised the idea of marrying a man she didn't love, but she kept up appearances for the sake of her family's reputation after her mother gave her a strict talk about life and death on her and in the household. So far, there’s been no luck for the older sister of the Baeron household and Brylee has aimed to keep it that way, preferring to feel "free" to choose whom she'd like, although that is far from the reality of her situation.
  • Weaponry:
    Name: Recurve Bow and Arrow
Description: The bow itself is extremely worn out. There are scratch marks all over it here and there and the golden lacquer (as well as the brown lacquer itself) that was once carved on it has dulled. The bow string is falling apart, but is still decent. It could be in better shape if she brought it to a bowyer but she doesn't want to get it "fixed" because it holds sentimental value. She keeps her bow and arrow hidden with Isuara's husband.
    Appearance: Recurve Bow and Arrow

    List of Armor and/or Attire:
    Name: Silver Locket
Description: A silver locket with a swallow given to her by her father before his sudden passing. A painting of him rests in between and a quote from him on the inside, “Spread your wings for no one.”
    Appearance: Locket w/ Swallow

    Name: Winter Fur Coat
Description: The very top layer of Brylee’s winter clothes when she’s traveling out and about during the cold winter days or playing in the snow for a couple hours or two. Made of fur and linen, very sturdy, and sewn to perfection.
    Appearance: Winter Fur Coat

    Name: Basic Winter Clothing
Description: Made of blue linen and dusty lilac silk. Comfortable, layered clothing for winter when it’s the coldest. Very versatile and flexible, allowing a free range of motion.
    Appearance: Basic Winter Clothing

    Name: Night Gown with Shawl
Description: Heavily embroidered and one of her most expensive pieces of clothing; most likely an exotic piece gifted from lands far off south. Made of silk, ornaments, and a sheer type fabric.
    Appearance: Night Gown w/ Shawl

@Kat

A few things need to be changed:

She turned to carnal pleasures as a way of releasing the distress she felt to be perfect. Her time with different men was awful, however, because what she wanted and needed was different from what they wanted and needed.
You don't need to edit this. But I will give a fair warning that such a trait or happening in your backstory will generate friction and difficulties. I believe that some words were exchanged about this, yet I want to make absolutely certain that it is cleared out. Having a reputation of being quite 'open' with relations isn't usually seen beneficial.
However, you are free to keep this.

Could you elaborate a bit more on the skills though? No need to delve into it and make it into a novel-length piece. But a bit of shedding on how well she is with certain matters would be much appreciated.

A picture of him rests in between and a quote from him on the inside, “Spread your wings for no one.”
I imagine you mean painting? Pictures aren't, sadly, a thing.

I am currently working on a roster and the accepted character thread - seeing that several characters are accepted by two GM's by now.
I shall alert you all when I am done doing those, in the Discord.

Personal Motto:
"Quiet ones are the ones to watch for"

[ Personal Information ]

Name: Alaina

Aliases: None Yet

Gender: Female

Age: 28

Length and body build: 64 inches | 162.56 cm

Weight: 142 lbs | 64.41 kg

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Parents: Abner and Elnora

Siblings: Only child

Appearance:
Alaina has dark, flowing hair that she chooses to always wear down but pulled away from her face. Her skin is a fair color warm with undertones and her eyes a light, hazel color. She wears the dresses provided to her by the house that she serves, keeping herself as presentable as possible as well as appropriately dressed for whatever the event may be.

Loyalty:
Bannermen of House Ashwood

Occupation:
Handmaiden

Ambition(s):
Growing up poor, Alaina had her eyes set on the wealthy people that her parents would so fondly speak of in her bedtime stories. He strives to one day be known to all as a great lady of an honorary house. A huge feat for such a lowly person, but even then she dreams to accomplish it.

Personality:
Alaina is a quiet woman for the most part. She chooses to observe and learn from her surroundings to be able to know what her next move might be. If spoken to, she does not shy away from conversation, and often finds herself listening for key words or watching the other person's body language. Whether it be paranoia or just a keen eye, it has helped her learn and move past trying times.

Trust does not come easily to Alaina but for those that do earn it, she devotes herself entirely. Having worked for the Ashwood House, Alaina considers the people there her priority and confides everything she hears with the people that she serves. She is very honest and sometimes may pass off as blunt, but shying away from the truth was never going to get her as far in life.

[ History ]
The History:
Born to Abner and Elnora, Alaina was a very beloved child as she was the only child and what they called a miracle. Her mother and father were common folk that hunted and grew crops to sell for a living. Looking back, she remembers the beginning years of her childhood being filled with laughter and love, and stories about kings and queens as well as lords and ladies that had beautiful long hair and soft dresses. Her father would take her hunting in order for them to stock up during the more trying times, where she learned how to use a bow and arrow. This was all before her parents fell ill. Alaina had to watch her own mother and father pass before her own eyes before making it to her 13th year. She struggled to keep moving past their passing, only seeing their ill faces whenever she would close her eyes. The young girl force herself to learn how to deal with their farmlands, watching them also go dry without producing much food each season. With a heavy and broken heart, she had to sell it for as much possible, a job much too big for someone who had lived her whole youth depending heavily on her parents.

As Alaina grew, she found herself having to lie in order to be able to get any type of food or coin. While passing through villages, the girl preferred to keep herself near taverns where she knew the men would get drunk and foolishly believe every word she said. Upon catching on to their ways, she would often find herself posing as a sultry lady in order to lure men to pay before they fell asleep. Although always careful in the men that she chose, as many of the women she had come across with had caught what they spoke of as lover's pox, she was not always saved from the men falling into an alcohol induced sleep which meant she had to go through with her promises. Eventually, she would find herself in brothels as she fought hard to survive and have a roof over her head as well as needing to earn her keep.

She saw many things in her years living and working in a brothel, heard many more as well. Having seen her fair share of struggles, she decided that something had to be done. Selling herself was the second hardest thing she had to go through, coming in close to her parents own deaths. The touch of a man revolted her as she became tired of being a toy. She had seen her dreams slip through her fingers as she grew up and lost her innocence as well as her naiveness living in that damned house.

She both stole and sold herself for a few years until deciding to move away and try to achieve a goal that she once had set. Having no experience in actual work, Alaina begged for the lords and ladies to find a place in their hearts to accept her, telling them stories of how her home was raided by bandits and how her parents came to die when she was young. To her good fortune, she was given a chance as a servant, and from there she gained the trust of those in the house and been a faithful handmaiden for years.

[ Skills and Gear]
Skills and various Traits:
If lying was a language, Alaina would be nearly fluent in it. Having no one to teach her, Ida does not know how to read or write but is surprisingly well spoken. Surviving without a home taught her to learn how to be able to differentiate a beautiful rose from a deadly wildflower, how to gut a deer, and how to make her own clothes with whatever materials she could come find.

List of weapons.

Hunting bow and arrows along with a small blade that she found in her parents house.

Name:
Swift
Description:
The bow that she cherishes was made by her father for her first hunting trip with him. It is one of two materialistic things her parents left behind that she could keep. She became proficient during her long days out hunting for whatever she could find before deciding to take up the brothels.
Appearance:

Name:
Black
Description:
Believed to be an old hunting knife that her father used to tote around while on their hunting trips, Alaina was able to salvage it after having sold the property. It is a bit rusted from having been used on her prey but she still makes do with it and keeps it hidden within her dress.

Personal Motto:
"Respect? Loyalty? Earn it."

[ Personal Information ]

Name:
- Daella Snow -

Aliases:
N/A

Gender:
Female

Age:
- Born 14 years after the TD (after the Doom) on 20th of June, making her 18 years old.

Length and body build:
Daella has an athletic build and stands about 1.689 meters, 5’ 6.5 feet.

Weight:
Daella weighs around 62.6 Kg, 138 lbs.

Sexuality:
Asexual

Grandparents:
Father’s Side:
* Urien (Deceased)
* Ema (Deceased)

Parents :
* Father: Tadd Bearon (Deceased)
* Mother: Unknown

Siblings:

* Half-Brother: Lord Drevyn Bearon
* Half-Brother: Braken Bearon
* Half-Sister: Isuara Bearon
* Half-Sister: Brylee Bearon

Distant relatives:
N/A

Appearance:
- Daella tries her best to dress simply for a noblewoman. Dressed typically in a simple clothing, or maybe even a dress of a darker color, which stands in contrast to her light-toned skin. However, it is typically quite difficult for the bastard to avoid sticking out in most situations because of how distinctly different she looks than the rest of her siblings. Her platinum-blonde hair and violet colored eyes tend to catch attention rather easily. Daella does not own any sort of jewelry, which works fine for the young girl as she has no use for the attention such things can draw to her. -

Loyalty:
- House Bearon -
Occupation:
- Cupbearer -

Ambition(s):
- Daella wants to bring about an end to the constant looks of disgust she gets for being a bastard, to earn the respect of those around her. She wants the validation of being legitimized and being needed by her family. A chance to learn about who her mother was would also be most welcome in the girl’s life. Daella would also much like to see the protection of those she cares for, and seeing their goals achieved. -

Personality:
- Daella is to most, a rather quiet and reserved girl. Somebody who much prefers to stay in the background and watch others than participate. Somebody who wants to avoid attention much rather than draw it to herself. She rarely ever will speak out unless is spoken to, the exception being to defend her older brother, Lord Bearon, if needed. She seems to have the expected manners of young woman, but there is always a twinkle of intelligence in her violet eyes. How there are little ticks that somebody might pick up on in the girl’s body language whenever she is upset. A hand balled tightly into a fist for a moment, a flash of irritation across her feature, small signs that would slip by most to show when her anger is flaring.

Daella is also rather kind towards the commoners she has come in contact with. While she is aware her life is still different than theirs, the girl appreciates how the commoners don’t judge her nearly as badly as some of the nobles did for being a bastard. As such, she has some pretty good relationships with a couple of the commoners.

To those she trusts, or her immediate family, Daella is much more open in expressing herself. Towards Drevyn and Isuara, Daella can be quite warm and friendly as the two have often shown themselves to be kind towards her. However Brylee and Braken do not see any of this warmth. Towards these two Daella is cold, and often enough quite sassy and outright rude towards. When alone with somebody she trusts, Daella is often enough showing how frustrated she is with the treatment she recieves for being a bastard. Something which she had little control over. These people would also find that she quite enjoys calligraphy, dancing, and has quite the sweet tooth whenever she can get away with it. -

[ History ]
The History:
- Daella has not had the typical life of a noblewoman in the North. This is due to Daella’s parentage, as the youngest of the Bearon family was born out of wedlock. Born to the late Lord Bearon, Daella has lived her entire life as a snow. The bastard daughter of the late lord. This of course resulted in quite a bit of resentment from the nobles around the castle, and even from some of her own siblings. Much of her young life was learning how to be unassuming, just a simple face in the background that would hopefully make it harder for her to be noticed. The girl also practiced hard to learn how to read and write, wanting to impress her father so he might notice her and be at least a bit proud of the girl. Along with these hopes of making her father proud, Daella hoped they would lead into her father telling her a bit more about who her mother was and maybe even moving to have her legitimized.

However, things would not pan out quite that way for the girl. Over the years, she started to realize that no matter how hard she tried for her father, she wasn’t really going to gain any ground with the man. Accepting her new reality, Daella simply decided to try her best to find her place in the family. Over the years since, she has grown rather close to her oldest brother, Drevyn, and her older sister Isuara. Meanwhile Braken and Brylee are two people that Daella despises the most in the world, mostly due to their treatment of the bastard. As such she usually treats with not even a hint of respect of kindness, as Daella has come to firmly believe that one needed to earn respect as opposed to being given it. During these years, she has spent a large amount of her time working towards improving herself to hopefully prove herself worthy of the respect of others.
Whenever Daella was about 16, she had a chance meeting with a smith’s apprentice working in the employ of House Bearon. This happened to be during one of the few times she slipped out of the castle to spend time among the commoners. People who didn’t particularly judge her for she was, and overall people who she was able to get along decently. On the day she met the smith’s apprentice, Daella happened to poking her head around near where the boy worked. Her curiosity about how the smiths all worked causing her to venture on over. In the next couple of months, Daella visited the boy a few more times. The two forging an unlikely friendship between the smith’s apprentice and a young noblewoman. However, their friendship would be put to a swift end not long after when the apprentice was sent away by the smith he worked under. Before he left, the boy helped forge a simple dagger and gave it to his friend as a gift. Unfortunately for Daella, her friend never came back from his errand.

When her father passed and Drevyn became the new Lord Bearon, Daella was asked to take the position of cupbearer for the man. Something the girl knew meant that he trusted her, and deeply appreciated. Of course, that doesn’t mean that Daella is content just this role. Instead, the girl has been trying to figure out ways she can possibly help her brother out. She has also spent a decent amount of time trying to understand the diplomatic that her brother does, this mostly consists of her listening in while he is working. Under her brother, Daella hopes that by helping the man she looks up to achieve his goals he might be thankful enough to try to get her legitimized. Allow her to have that sense of belonging she has craved for so long, yet still eludes her even to this day. Despite spending more time around the nobility, Daella has not stopped her occasional trips out of the castle to spend time among the commoners. This has led, in recent times, to the girl meeting and forming a friendship with Liana, a commoner from the lands of the Bearon's bannermen, House Haerton. -

[ Skills and Gear]
Skills and various Traits:
- * Reading/Writing: Daella, as a noble girl, is capable of both reading and writing. Her handwriting is rather elegant, as Daella practiced often in her youth to try to impress his father.
* False Faces: Daella is quite used to putting on a fake face to fool most into thinking her situation is different than it actually is. This mostly stems from the girl having to act pleasant while dealing with others’ opinions of her being a bastard.
* Diplomacy: Daella has studied how Drevyn handles business, and has tried to understand how to handle diplomatic situations to better aid her brother in any way she can. As such, she has a basic understanding of diplomacy, but still has a long way to go before being close to where those with more official education are at.
* Stealthy: Daella is capable of being quiet and sneaking around to a small degree. This mostly being when the girl wanted to get somewhere unnoticed to avoid dealing with others. That, and her sneaking around to try to obtain some more sweets when she can.
* Dexterous: Daella is not a strong girl, instead rather dexterous instead of relying on strength to get about her tasks.
* Diplomatic: Daella has learned some basics of diplomacy from constantly being around her older brother while he was working, and trying to learn a bit about what he does to try to help out more often. -

List of weapons.

Name:
-Talon-
Description:
-Talon is a small dagger Daella received from a friend she had made who worked with a smith in House Bearon’s employ. The friend was later sent away to fetch something for the smith, and never returned. It is a valued possession of hers, being a memory of her friend. Although Daella has no skill with the dagger beyond ‘Stick them with the pointy end’.-
Appearance:
- Daella’s dagger is nothing special beyond a simple dagger with a leather grip. The quality of the weapon is above average, but there is nothing overly ornate about it.

Name:
-Calligraphy Set-
Description:
-A calligraphy set which Daella got for herself to better practice writing.-
Appearance:
- A simple quill with a black feather, and a small container with black ink within it.-

List of armour or attire.

Typically Daella tries to dress in simple outfits, not particularly meant to draw attention to herself. Although she does own a couple of dresses for whenever the need arises to look more fancy. She favors clothing of a darker color, as it stands in contrast to her pale skin and wearing lighter colors might ‘blind’ somebody.

Name:
-Daella’s Dress-
Description:
-A dress that Daella received on the most recent name day before her father passed, a prized possession and something she wears whenever she needs to look nicer for whatever reason compared to her usual, simple dresses. -
Appearance:
- Daella’s favored dress is a simple one, yet fitting of a noble woman. While she is a bastard, her father did grant her this one dress. It is a deep violet in color, similar to the shade of the girl’s eyes with fur around the end of the sleeves.-

Name:
-Fur Cloak-
Description:
-A simple cloak with fur around the neck meant to help keep warm during the coldest of months in the North.-
Appearance:
-A simple fur cloak with fur around the neck, goes down decently far on Daella and is used to help keep warm when it is cold outside.
