Throughout history, many mountains have been given special treatment by the local cultures or the people who lived around them. For example, the Olympus was considered the resting place of the gods because fog shrouded its peak so often that people could not see what was happening up there. Similarly, local folklore often centres around mountains, not to mention that there may be several shrines, or even a temple dedicated to the gods on said mountain.
Your exercise is to create a mountain which is seen as special either by the local people or a whole mythology. You can use the following sheet as a guide or make up your own.
Name:
Peak Height: (A rough estimate is fine)
Description:
Associated Deity or Deities:
Places of Importance: (Shrines, sacred stones or meadows, etc.)
Animals of Importance: (Animals that are seen the most frequently or have some significance to the local people or the myth circle)
Associated Traditions: (If there are none, just leave this area empty. Otherwise, a short description is fine.)
Role: (What role does it play in local mythology or the mythological cycle? Is the mountain seen as benevolent of maleficient?)
Importance: (Just how sacred is this mountain? Are outsiders allowed to travel through it? Are people allowed to live on it?)
Associated Myth(s) or Legend(s): (A short summary is enough, but if you want to go for detail, be my guest.)
