Name: Vesna Vkarron
Race: Dwarf
Age: 234

Personality

Hard//Tough//Stalwart

Vesna doesnt do backing down or giving up. She deals with the problem at hand and while she may grumble and mutter about the situation she'll do it while taking out the problem with a heavy axe swing to its face or one precise Snipe to its nether regions. She'll endure anything you can think of and more. Beat her, shoot her, throw her off a cliff, but you'll never break her. She has held the record for longest resistance against torture without dying or giving up the intel for five years running and she plans to beat it if she's ever stupid enough to get captured a second time.

Loyal//Determined//Trustworthy
If Vesna gives you her trust and friendship then you can expect her to deliver. The problem is knowing when she has because its often hard to tell with her. She might be patting your back and suggesting names for your children one minute, then throwing you into a dungeon and grilling you for drug smuggling charges the next. The best way to know she's got your back is if you have hers (and you arent involved in anything particularly illegal). Still, even like this, it doesnt mean she'll treat you tenderly or gently. Say someone had you at knife point and was screaming something about slitting your throat if she doesnt put her weapon down. She'd most likely shoot you herself somewhere mildly non-lethal, use the surprise factor to shoot your captor and then slap on some Medical salve and drag you back to base. To be honest it takes alot to be Vesna's friend, but at least you know you wont die.

Harsh//Unyielding//Heartless
Vesna doesnt care about your children, your wife, your husband, your parents. Vesna has no qualms with harming innocent civilians if there is no way around it. This doesnt mean she wont try and find another way, she isnt cruel or excessively callous and its in her best interests to leave a place with more friends and allies than when she came. But she has a mission and she intends to report back to the King with a 'Mission completed' at the end of the day. She's not a renegade, she's not a Paragon, she is just the essence of practicality.

Unwilling Leader//Strategic//Inspiring
Vesna wouldnt like to admit it but she's good at being a captain. She's done it before and she's probably going to have to do it again but that doesnt mean she'll like it. As a Leader she cant help but take the whole squad under her wing and think of them as entirely her responsibility. She might be ok with sacrificing some buildings, civilians or unknown military but she finds it very hard to sacrifice a squad put under her command. If she does that, it means she did something wrong, she was in control and she screwed up and it would be her fault if any of them didnt come back to their families afterwards. She deals with this heavy guilt fine, but that doesnt mean she likes it and it doesnt mean she'll seek it out. Still, her dedication to the men and women beneath her means ironically that she can quite easily make soldiers ready to die for her, ready to charge into battle guns blazing and ready to follow any order she gives even if it probably means death for them.

History

Childhood
Born in a small Dwarvish outpost outside the Dwarven Empire's control, Vesna, her little sister Vella and their big brother, Varn, learned the hard way to fight for what they wanted and just how tough the outlying lands could be. A harsh and dug down conflict had started between the Human Kingdom and the Dwarven Empire at the time and the border towns often took the brunt of the hostilities. The Vkarron family were the nobles leading and managing the mining town, but year after year the attacks got harder to rebuff and their small army dwindled in number. The King knew they needed more troops and the council was doing the best it could but, at the time, every single border town needed support and the royal army was in no way limitless.

And so it happened that in a particularly heavy attack, their father died. Vesna was just 29, barely out of childhood by most accounts and Varn had been wounded in the same battle. It was up to Vesna and her grieving mother to run the outpost but her mother was quickly taken ill with heartache. She did recover eventually, however, in the time she was bedridden and Varn was recovering, Vella and Vesna had managed the whole town by themselves. Vesna found she had good ability with organisation and inspiring the troops, however her political machinations were pitiful compared to her little sister who just simply shone. And so once her mother returned to work alongside them, Vesna made a decision. She was no dainty woman to find a husband and settle down. She wanted to protect her king and country and defend the outposts, find strength to fight in war and be a great general eventually, follow her big brother in war and honour.

Now, as a woman, this was rather rare and frowned upon. Women were scarce in the dwarvish race and every woman was precious. Far too important to throw into war. However Vesna's mind was made up and she stalwartly battled through all the prejudice and her family's entreatings to leave her home and make the long journey into the depths of the mountains. She found her quarry, dragging herself up the steeps slopes of mount Ajuntr to reach the renowned dwarven fortress, a place for any dwarf to come and be trained in elite combat by one of the greatest female warriors of their age. Dizara, the King's sister and his principle military tactician.

In the years Vesna was training at the fortress, all her rebellious attitude and fury at the dwarvish society and fury at adults in general had been worked out through lots of hand-to-hand conbat training. Basically she had the stuffing beaten out of her until she decided there were more important things in life than acting out. Vesna was an outcast at first and had no problem that. She did not have a particularly kind heart and had no real desire for friends. But eventually, make friends she did. It would have been difficult not to considering the training period for the Ajuntr fortress was ten years and only after that could you leave the area for important assignments. Vesna succeeded and survived the training with great merit, Commander Dizara taking a personal interest in her and taking her on as one of her elite warriors. In this capacity she was taken along for a great many high risk missions for the capitol. She was well on her way to greatness.

Combat History
Vesna distinguished herself in many different ways during her years as a member of Dizara's strikeforce team. She worked in a variety of different squads and through her highly recognised skills as a recon scout, often got put on a variety of assignments that widened her combat experience to great heights. However, no matter how disciplined and by the book she tried to be, she was still a bolshie and combative and argumentative soldier with a respect for her higher ups that usually showed as her arguing with them more. Dizara could cope with this, other Dwarven commanders not so much. This obviously was not something the Dwarven Military tolerated and the amount of insubordination charges thrown at her were immense. Her nature continued to her comrades as well, some people she would get on with, some not, and she'd meet all of them in the combat ring at one point or another. She won almost all of those encounters, being mainly a hand-to-hand specialist fighter.

Her whole career was an up and down rollercoaster ride. Sometimes she was lauded for her impressive tactics and decisive victories and she would be promoted to Commander, then she would take her squad, disobey orders, succeed anyway in a much better manner and bring a victory home. But the higher ups criticized her for the disobedience and she was punished anyway. This usually lead to her squad getting angry and rebellious on her behalf and the whole thing became a mess. There was one instance where she and Varn, now a solid General in the Military, met for a cross platoon siege on one of the enemy fortresses. They were both very happy to see eachother and inevitably, with that much skill combined with the lack of authority, they charged into the fray together and held out against impossible odds to eventually win the day. Of course Vesna disregarded orders often and, while Varn was at first aggravated by her tactics, eventually he saw her ability and allowed her free reign. The siblings were successful and, after another inevitable furious discharge from her squad, Vesna met up with Varn for a drink to catch up. From then on they tried to remain in contact with renewed vigour, Vesna especially feeling a strong pang of need to reconnect with her mother and dear little sister.

After this mission, something very unexpected happened. Vesna was spotted by the King himself. Her whole career lit up for him as a perfect example of the kind of Lord Commander he needed. After a few meetings with her and seeing her worth, she was quickly offered the position of General and given command of a large tower fortress high in the mountain wilds, one which she accepted gladly and quickly, her trust, faith and loyalty to her King being instantly forged.

Recent History
Vesna immediately excelled as a General, her men quickly falling under her control and giving her the respect she deserved. She was very successful and when the King recognised that he could throw her into whatever god-awful situation and trust her to clear it up with the fewest avoidable casualties and the best outcome, he began sending her on more and more ridiculous assignments. She didnt resent this type of work, hell she loved it, she finally felt challenged and the Soldiers under her actually trusted and liked her. Which was a new experience. And then she got to meet Military Veterans and high-ups from other countries and races. One in particular, a human man named Warden-Commander Jorah Horedan who commanded a region of elite warriors pledged to an order of noble, long-lived knights that sought out and destroyed demonic or evil forces in the world. The Wardens were respected in all countries, no matter their race, and Jorah was a very impressive man. He was a tall, wide and bear like man with streaks of grey in his thick black hair and beard and a bronze tone to his scarred skin. And Vesna found that she got along with him very well, though inevitably they disagreed on many things. But very soon Jorah was one of her special loyalty comrades, she trusted him and was therefore loyal to him through any conceivable turmoil and eventually their bond developed into a romantic relationship.

It was for these reasons that she pushed Jorah towards her Big Brother, knowing that her biased opinion would not hold much sway with Military Command, but a warhero like Jorah would be able to get Varn the attention and power he deserved to wield. Happily for Vesna, not only did Jorah help her big brother, he gave him new purpose and eventually accepted him into the Wardens. All of which made the small little family exceedingly happy. They all moved forward with determination and skill and they became renowned together throughout the Dwarven Kingdoms and beyond.

When Vesna was captured by an Assassin Cult hired by the Human King, a highly trained infiltration squad designed to find weaknesses in the Dwarvish Empire to exploit and attack, she was reluctantly leading a trapped Squad of elvish Soldiers out of some testing heavy battle. She essentially sacrificed herself for the sake of the squad, was taken hostage and held in a place as far away and secret from Dwarvish controlled territories as its possible to get. Reluctantly, the Dwarven King abandoned her for dead, and to be honest she didn't blame him, she was gone a whole two weeks before anyone even knew where she had been in the first place. But Jorah and Varn didn't give up on her. She was tortured in captivity for five months and moved from place to place all over Mercenary territory before Varn picked up a tip of who was holding her and he and Jorah went completely Dark and rode off to find her. She was rescued just a week later, the pair of Wardens storming the castle single-handedly and ripping it apart in their search.

They returned to the Dwarven Capitol a week after that, having kept Vesna with a special doctor in order to have her healed and fit for the questioning she was bound to receive when she got back. After some intense interviews and tests and various methods to define the truth, it was assured that Vesna had given away nothing to the Assassins and had in fact fed them false information that was probably going to get them captured. Her status was pretty solidified after that, along with her trust in Jorah and Varn.

Assassins have continued relentlessly to try and kill her or capture her but she's not one to be fooled twice. Recently however, Jorah has been incredibly distant, in fact she hasnt spoken with him for more than two months. It has only just started to concern her and she is using her usual duty routes to look for him, now having many responsible and trustworthy Captains able to take her place at her Fortress for a little while, especially since war has ceased for a time. Varn is on a somewhat routine monitering mission for a new potential Warden and so not available to help her. Vesna senses something, its itching at her back and she cant quite get the feeling of doom out of her head.

Other: Her three main ways of battle are a crossbow, a two-handed axe, and hand to hand fighting using the spiked gauntlets she always wears.

Companion: Roark. At some point in her life someone convinced her she needed a War Goat. At first she was insistant that she would not get attached to an animal. But then she kept asking for the same goat. And then she started defending its honour. And then she named it. And eventually she gave up and now takes the huge ram everywhere she goes and talks to him and has accepted that he might be smarter and more sensible than she is. His name is Roark and he had always accepted her strangeness and recklessness, but that doesnt stop him from bleeting and bucking against some orders. He is a tough and old goat with zero patience for youngsters or foolery. Honestly they have almost identical personalities really.
