Koda shook the freshly fallen snow off his fur as he headed towards that abandoned cabin that he normally took refuge in. He had been with his back for the better part of a month before having to leave so he could shift back. If he stayed shifted for too long, he would end up staying a wolf and that really didn't sit well to him at the moment. He was able to reach the cabin, shifting back into his huge human form.

He found the blankets in the same place that he had left them last month. No one dared venture to this cabin. The locals believed a superstition that this place that he had taken refuge in was haunted. They never ventured in. At least they hadn't so far. He hoped it would stay that way for a while longer, but he didn't count on it. He knew that humans were curious. He knew this because he was half human. However, he wouldn't be moving anywhere anytime soon. This was the only place he had to be a human.

He didn't know any of the villagers nor did he try to as his understanding of them was very limited. He knew how to greet people and to show respect and kindness, but when it came to what the world was going through, changes in tech and what not, he had no idea. So he just stayed away from humans all together so he wouldn't confuse himself.

He looked out the south window, the one that faced the village. Whoever had lived in this cabin before it was abandoned clearly hated the village to a certain degree. However, they still wished to watch over it via the window. He was sure that, one of these days, someone would venture over to his cabin due to curiosity, but, at this point, he was ready for any human that decided to get curious enough to check it out.

He grabbed his blankets and wrapped them around him, his body heat warming him up rather quickly. He had many reasons that he loved being a wolf shifter, but this was the best by far. The body heat generated by the wolf was enough to keep them warm amongst all their fur in the winter time. This applied to him even when he was in human form. He stayed like this, his own body heat starting to make him drowsy. If anyone was approaching, he wouldn't know.

"Did you hear?" A classmate chimed in on Mariana's thoughts, pulling a sheet of paper away from her to grab her attention.

"Hear what?" She asked as she reached for her stolen paper only to have it pulled farther away. It was an unfinished project and one that would determine if she passed the class or not. "Can I please have that back?" Mariana muttered under her breath as she stood up from her seat. This isn't Elementary School.

"That village with a haunted cabin, you still haven't finished your final project, yeah?" A playful smile danced on her classmate's lips the second he knew he had her full attention. "I doubt anyone else has done anything with it, and I'm sure since it's nearing The Holy Tree Day that everyone is taking pictures of Christmas trees, and knowing you, you probably don't want to be in that crowd." Mariana bit the inside of her cheek, reluctant to admit he was right, but nodded her head anyway not wanting to risk the opportunity being taken from her because of something as petty as pride. Flashing her a signature grin he whipped out his phone and sent her the location.

The bus ride to the village was a quiet one, but beautiful nonetheless. Occasionally she would take a picture of the scenery or the sleeping people on the bus; a child now and then would sit by her, bombarding her with questions that she would answer without fail. Discouraging them at a young age is bad. It'll stick with them in adulthood. Whenever the curious child finished their interrogation, they would call out to their mother and share their new found knowledge with them. She chuckled and resumed tinkering with the lenses on her camera until the bus lurched to a stop.

She remained in her seat, waiting for the crowd of people to get off the bus so she could follow. She didn't want to risk her camera getting smashed, or pockets looted in the group and found it better to wait it out and thankfully it didn't take long till she was gone and left in the snow. The snow gave the scenery a softness to it, but she ignored it and adjusted her bag while marching on. Thankfully finding the cabin wasn't hard at all given all the rumors about it being haunted, some people even laughed when she explained why she wanted to visit it. It was shrugged off; it was better to move on than to hold onto a trivial matter.

The door creaked open, and the air was still and chilly, nothing to be surprised about of a cabin that was left alone for so long. As soon as she stepped further into the cabin, she noticed a body laying on the floor in the living room. Peacefully asleep under a bundle of blankets. She inched a little closer curious at the sight, but couldn't hide growing smile on her lips. Carefully she knelt down and aimed the camera, her finger hovering over the shutter button like it was a trigger to a gun.

CLICK.

Her eyes widened, and her grip around the camera tightened. A line of swears was going off in her head as soon as the camera announced her arrival. That's louder than I thought. She thought panicked, she was only a college student who couldn't pay off a case if she were to get sued for a violation of privacy.

As he was soundly sleeping, a loud click woke him up. Startled, he sat up. His eyes adjusted quickly to the light thanks to the wolf side of him. Wolves an unusual knack for seeing in the dark of the night. He looked over at her. The sun had almost set all the way so there was still a little light in the cabin. He had been sleeping for longer than he had thought. He looked up at the source of the noise and there his eyes were graced by the elegant figure of a human woman.

His eyes studied her for a moment before speaking up to her.

"Hello...I figured someone would get curious and want to explore this place. Feel free to. I just have no home of my own so I stay here sometimes. It's not my home...Just shelter"

He got up, stretching out his well toned body. He had on a shirt that had seen better days along with some torn up jeans. He put on his shoes and walked over to the living room of the cabin, starting up a fire in the fire place as he was still a bit cold. He looked over at the girl who seemed to look either surprised, or a bit nervous or both. She hadn't moved from where he was laying originally.

Once he had the fire going, he looked over at the contraption she had in her hand. He thought it looked like a camera and upon moving closer to it, examined it. It looked a lot different than the camera he had seen his parents have. Things were changing around him, a lot and he had a lot to learn about. Maybe this girl could help him learn more about the world the humans lived in, since he didn't want to give up his human side, but he didn't want to give up his wolf side either. He wanted to embrace both.

"That's a nice camera you have there...When did you get it and how old is it?"

He realized after he asked this question that it was an awkward question to ask, but he was trying to learn more about humans. As much as his introverted side told him not to. He didn't like talking to other humans. The thought that they might be like his parents really, genuinely scared him. But he had to get over this fear somehow and he figured now of all times might be the best opportunity.
