The child bared her teeth and grabbed the dagger out of the air, diving towards one of the larger Urucs like she had a death wish. She ducked and rolled between its legs, spinning about to slash the backs of his knees before jumping up onto his back, snarling as she pulled the dagger across his neck. Separating herself from the uruc she stood and ran towards another, leaving the one before clutching at his throat as he bled out, falling into a slide and plunging the dagger into the next urucs foot. Alaine twisted about, bringing her foot about in a kick that connected with back of the creatures knee.

The knee crumbled and gave way as Alaine stood, reaching to grab the hidden knife at her back. She watched for things in her peripheral, bringing the knife forward to slit this ones throat as well. Getting its bearings for a moment the Uruc swung backwards with its elbow, knocking her knife away and her onto her backside. The thing tried to stand, forgetting about the dagger in its foot and ate dirt, giving her time to lunge forwards to steal the creatures sword. Alaine brought it above her head with difficulty, letting gravity help it down onto its owners neck.

Alaine fell back, weaving towards her allies, wiping blood from her jaw and looking for any openings to cause trouble for the Urucs.

One Uruc remained standing in front of Michael. He held a massive sword and readied it to swing, but Micheal's strength had failed him. He wilted just as the huge blade grazed his shoulder. The Uruc, not being that intelligent, took that as proof of a kill, and moved on, getting killed by Maskannai in the process. Michael, however, was unconscious and bleeding.

When he awoke, he started weeping silently. He had nearly caused the death of his companions, he thought. Damn it all! I am no elf! I am a disgrace...

Zike walked with the group as they made their way to either the forest or the next town, she no long knew which one they were heading for. Ever so often, she’d turned her head slightly to look behind them. However, this human form lacked the hearing needed for her to sense the oncoming horde of Urucs. It was only a matter of seconds until they were upon them. Everyone seemed to work independently in their attempts to defeat the waves. Zike at first thought she’d have to help cover the knight, but that thought was silenced quickly by Troy’s skill. The male elf was firing off spells left and right which Zike paid mined not to be caught in his fire. Not many Uruc reached her. Only three managed to move around the wall of fire and blades to reach Zike who’d stood back for the most part to observe the other’s combat potential. Had their been a moment where one of her new found comrades were in true danger, she’d of stepped it.

The Uruc’s that attacked her ran in a relatively straight line, one after another. Holding her weapon with both hands, she brought the right side up with the blade parallel toward the Uruc just as it swung its sword, blocking the blade. Then she thrust her left hand forward, bringing the blade that was pointing down forward with it and up in a circular arch. The blade sliced into the Uruc deeply. Zike followed through with the motion of bringing the blade up, creating a full rotation with Zike spinning around once to keep a hold of the weapon. So just as the second Uruc came charging behind the first, Zike continued the swing the blade in it’s large circle, but only holding onto it with her right hand, giving it slightly longer reach. The blade tore through the second Uruc in a similar fashion as the first, but even deeper. When the blade had passed through the Uruc and was now pointing toward the sky, she quick the swing and tugged on it with her right hand, using her body’s weight to stop it from flying away. She did however lift off the ground a few feet.

The final Uruc that approached her stomped passed its allies corpses. Zike landed and held the weapon with both hands once again. She drew a stance, pulling the blade to her side and back, as if she were going to swing the weapon like a common sword. Zike drew in a deep breath moments before the Uruc reached her. In a voice that seemed to echo through the immediate air, she spoke, “Xst!” Vuldrik for the word, to move quickly or rapidly. Zike was over taken by an orange glow for a split second. The moment after seeing the glow, Zike stood with her weapon already swung. The Uruc split in two and still in mid motion. The two halves drop to the ground and the glow dissipates from Zike. She then turns to the others, to see how they were fairing.

maskannai was deep in thought when the Uruc appeared through the forest, suprising then all with such a well laid ambush. She took in a deep breath of the cool air, tasting the sweetness of the forest just before the Uruc hit. As the companions began combat with the wave of enemies Maskannai pulled out the whipdagger first, a great weapon with reach and versatile in its use. She snapped the weapon towards the first Uruc close enough, its blade lodging in the Uruc's gut. When she pulled it back and the blade came out the Uruc fell to its knees, trying to recover his spilled entrails. Maskannai snapped the weapon out at several others, maiming their eyes or slitting their throats before the fight became too close for the weapon to be effective any longer. Once the quarters were closer she pulled out the rapier on her other hip. As her hand touched the weapon and slid it from its sheath a shimmer seemed to go down its length and a trail of fire followed.

The rapier had been forged from fire metal, and as such always had a flame along the blade when in use. Maskannai reached out towards their enemies with the blade, killing quickly. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Michael fall to his knees as his strength for spellcasting left him. Seeing her brother in such immediate danger gave her an incredible adrenaline rush and she dove into the mass of Uruc still alive and slashed back and forth, taking out quite a few of them in her attempt to get to Michael.

All of a sudden there weren't any more Uruc rushing to meet the fury of her blade and Michael was in front of her, shivering on the ground. She dropped both her weapons and kneeled at his side, her own concern written across her face.

"Brother, what is it that plagues you? Are you injured?" she asked aloud. She knew he didn't speak aloud often, not since childhood, yet he hadn't ever seemed to have a problem with her speaking aloud to him. She echoed the question in his mind since he didn't reply right away

Troy's chest rose in steady bursts, he had the Uruc sword in the ground and was leaning against it. It wasn't the fact that he was tired, physically, so much as it was mental fatigue. The memories were fresh in his skull. The killing, the brutal scenes of death, the severing, fatal wounds that left men dying on the ground. And despite all this he didn't feel as if his mind was on the brink of flashback, it was almost as if he welcomed it in some far place in his brain that was filled with rage and the need to kill. Was it possible that killing was the answer to his nightmarish thoughts?

Troy looked to Alaine, she had Uruc blood dripping from her face, as well as the dagger she had used to kill with. She had not just held her own, but killed like a seasoned warrior. Troy looked at her in a new light. She wasn't a wannabe killer on a revenge fantasy, no, She was a cold blooded killer out for his hide! He shot her a weak smile and a nod, an almost taunting smile that said ' Ok, little one, bring it on' Death did not frighten Troy as much as being killed at the hands of this particular girl did. It was something he could not explain, just a feeling.

Before attempting to move on, Troy looked to the others. They were a fighting group indeed. Maskannai with her fascinating sword skills. Zike, the demon capable of killing entire groups of enemies with a seamless like effort and Michael with his fierce magic and bravery. Troy felt that he had never been in better company his entire life.

He regained his composer then turned to the others, ready to move on.

Michael was a mess. More mentally than physically injured, he could not speak. Death was too hard for him to endure. In a burst of mental angst, he sent the entirety of his memory into Maskannai's mind. Every instance of pain, every dream, every time he'd thought he'd failed. If you can help me, you are a better elf than I, my sister, he sent mentally. Within himself he fled, taking refuge in the comfort of nothing.

Alaine danced about her soon to be last kill, using the size difference to her advantage. She whittled away at it, giving a sick grin as she landed what was sure to be a fatal cut. Her feet moved quickly, keeping her out of reach at the right times. Each moment wore the Uruc down further. The creatures movements became desperate, sloppy and finally it collapsed. Alaine’s lips uncurled out of the grin as she drug her arm over her face and walked towards Troy. Moving into his shadow and crouching down to clean her dagger, she waited on everyone else.

Since the battle was indeed over, Zike began to rejoin the group. As she walked passed one of the slain Uruc, she took a moment to nudge it over to see if it was really dead, which it was. Sadly, that meant she couldn’t extract any information from it. Like why they were attacking or if they were somehow involved with her or their mission. She passed Troy and the little girl, giving them both a grin. Her eyes drifted over to the sibling elves. Something apparently was happening to the male elf. He didn’t look injured, but knowing seers, most of the damage was mental. This was defiantly something she didn’t want to get involve in. She paused, still standing closer to Troy and the little girl than the two elves, and spoke “So what now? These attacks seem a little less than random…”

Maskannai was blown away by the images and emotions that her brother sent to her through their telepathic link. She'd always had a strong and independent character herself, so had had no problems with her own confidence in herself or her abilities. She was about fifty years older than Michael, so was an adult when he was still a child, and had a lot more experience with life than he, but she'd never known how fragile he truly was. The mental weight of what he had sent her was so great that she knelt on the ground next to him and pulled his shaking body towards her, holding him until he stopped shaking.

Whatever we need to do to help you become more confident we will do brother, she said to his mind. Their own struggles at this point were rather personal and she knew he would only feel more ashamed rather than less if she broadcasted it more than what was already evident by how she had reacted to his show of weakness. She helped him stand, supporting him until he was sure that he could stand on his own, then turned to the others.

"We must continue onwards before more Uruc, or perhaps something worse, finds us and manages to take us out of this battle we are fighting. The village we seek is half a days walk and the opening to the underground we seek is another two days walk from there. If we purchase horses we can shorten the time it will take us to get to the entrance, however I do not think mounts would be wise underground. Let us at least press on and get to the village before we are found again for something sinister is watching our steps," she said aloud, then put her arm around Michael's shoulder and continued down the path once the others were ready to go. The rest of their journey to the village was uneventful, thankfully, and they arrived just as the sun was setting.

Uruc blood dripped from Troy's sword as he waited on the others. It seemed that that Michael was having some issues, Troy didn't pretend to understand Elves, they were a complicated race in his eyes. It seemed, however that their small party was more or less unscathed by the attack and that was a good thing. Everyone had fought well and the result had been a victory. Troy examined his sword, it was not by any means a trustworthy blade and if he was going to be venturing into an underground cave he would no doubt need a better weapon. Once they reahed the Village he would ask Maskannai if she would be able to craft him one. Elven blades were the best.

"We should move as soon as possible, And I for one agree with Zike, that attack seemed premeditated."

Micheal was shaken, but he stood, head down, beside his sister. He felt a bit better, but his confidence lagged. He sighed loudly and spoke, "Indeed it was. The drow are in league with the Uruc, using them to do the preemptive work. I am no true seer, but the dreams of late have given me cause to believe something evil this way comes, and the evil is strong. I must also apologize to all of you. I have not been a sterling example of my race. My contamination of the campfire after a memory flashback is a sorry way to ask for help. I very nearly got us killed in this attack. I carry no weapon, a thing which is considered a curse by my people. My speech is slow, so telepathy is easy, and I apologize for the pain of that, Troy. Please forgive me, friends, for being the weakest link in this chain."

Michael stood back, having said his piece, and speaking more than he'd ever done in one setting. His throat and mind now hurt. His body shivered, so he leaned a bit on Maskannai's shoulder.
