Vocabulary Challenge
Brought to you by: October Knight and Fluffy; Partners in Crime

[bg=#006633]This challenge is to help strengthen your vocabulary. You'll learn new words and how to use them in roleplay posts, stories, poems, etc!

Instructions:
1. Aim for a minimum of 1-3 paragraphs. If you'd like to write more than that, then go for it!
2. Use as many words as you can. It's not necessary to use all the words. Just do your best.
3. Style the writing like you would for a story. It can be describing a setting, or written from the perspective of a character. Whatever you feel would work the best.
4. Have fun with this, of course!

The Words:

  • Philanthropic (adj.) Benevolent.
  • Octavo (n.) A book, or collection of paper in which the sheets are so folded as to make eight leaves.
  • Omission (n.) Exclusion.
  • Plenteous (adj.) Abundant
  • Redolent (adj.) Smelling sweet and agreeable.

Ah, and here we see the wizened wizard in his natural habitat... deep in the catacombs of an ancient tower, built for purposes long past, and bought in one of a series of philanthropic undertakings to garner an appreciation for the arts of the Magi. Indeed, as he approaches his favored haunt, the Mystic Libraries, we can assume to have caught him as he seeks to weasel new secrets out of the many tomes collected over several lifetimes.

Scattered about in this room, you might catch a glimpse of many artifacts of arcane or mundane purpose; books, books everywhere, of course, but there is so much more! Crystal balls, oft called scrying spheres, gather dust on their specially crafted focusing tablets. Various staves, carved of wood or wrought of iron, locked carefully away inside well constructed reliquaries. Several locked book cases contain orphic tomes, the meanings of which might be gleaned from the octavos piled nearby.

It seems those tomes are that which the Wizard has come to seek purchase; with a flick of his wrist, one of the cabinets open to reveal a plenteous array of texts from which to choose. Marked with all manner of arcane symbology, to the casual observer they might appear nothing more than scrawled doodles or a mad-man's mindless craft, but to the sagacious eye of a Wizard, they speak volumes.

Edging his way towards a gnarled old desk, another flick of the wrist produces a flame from the nearby candles; save one omission, a black candle that serves to bring not light, but very dark purpose into the world. Settling into his throne, the mage reverently flips through pages, seeking perhaps where he last left off, the specifics of a certain incantation, or, perhaps, something as simple as a good recipe.

Even reading such ancient novels, however, can have dire consequences; we see, as he reads, that the lights begin to dim, imperceptibly at first, but soon they flicker and cast as if by a soft breeze. A redolent, heady scent permeates about the room, sounds of summers long past filter through unseen windows. And, just like that, the wizard is swallowed by a creature of the Warp, long put off its well earned meal. Ah... and now, we see the Warp Fiend in its new, unfamiliar habitat...

((I realize this thread is ancient, but... well, the site told me about it. >.> And nobody else had yet, so... Enjoy?))
