THE IC: 432 Park Avenue

This is a slice of life category. Park Avenue is about the domestic and professional lives of the people who live and work in a fictional neighborhood in New York City. Primarily centering around family drama. It is an open concept so you can introduce any family composition you desire and add any plot lines you wish to roleplay with them. You can also introduce any location and business of interest that you wish to work in or have control over. Your family can be wealthy, middle class, working class, etc. And you can play adults and young-adults, this way we can interact on many levels.

The roleplay will be character driven, that means characters move the plot forward. Whatever plot you weave for your character it should be challenging for them, a learning experienced, discover strengths they didn't know they had, and be forced to deal with things that are against their moral fiber. Please, make your characters dimensional - the setting is real life not fantasy so every action, law breaking act, immoral act, and unethical behavior will have consequences and will be dealt with at one point or another. Everyone will work on mingling characters and discuss plot lines. Friendships, romance, even nemesis will be developed.​

• My biggest pet peeve is don't disappear without warning me. Please give me a heads-up that you will be away or that you wish to quit. This way I can take over your characters and move them along so that nobody else is stuck waiting on you to post.

• You agree by joining this roleplay that when you quit I have complete authority over your characters, and therefore you forgo any chance of recovering them if you decide to come back.

• Please write in 3rd person, even if you are not comfortable doing so try your best. You are here to tell the story of your character(s), and you will find that in 3rd person you have more freedom in how their story is told.

• I consider this roleplay High-Casual. No one liners ever! I want to see the minimum of 3 paragraphs, 5 sentences each. More will be wonderful, but I understand sometimes our minds get blocked - but if the roleplay is good, you will most likely have plenty to write about.

• Post as often as you like but don't overshadow other players who want to tell their story too. On that note, posting is a minimum of twice a week - if you disappear for a week without a heads up I will take over your character and chances are you won't be allow back. A week is seven days from your last post.

• Follow plot lines. Every plot will have a sequence of events that revolve around an attempt to solve a problem or attain a goal. The story goal, is generally speaking, what your character wants to achieve or the problem he/she wants to resolve. It is also the goal/problem that involves or affects the other characters in the story.

• Balancing sex scenes & romance - This roleplay is more storyline than smut. Be mindful how you start and write a sex scene, it should be intricate to the storyline and characters, and we must all follow the rules of the site. If you don't know how, then do fade to black.

• Sex must be consensual between the characters. If a plot involves a rape, there is no need to describe the act in detail, it should go into fade mode - but be aware that such events will be dealt with the full weight of the law.

• Drug and Violence unfortunately are part of life. In our roleplay characters can have addictions and sell drugs. Characters can be be violent and commit murder. But like in real life they will have to deal with the consequences of such actions.

• The roleplay setting is real life not fantasy so every action, law breaking act, immoral act, and unethical behavior will have consequences and will be dealt with at one point or another.

• As GM I will also play destiny. There will be times when I will jump in and add an obstacle to your plot, as well as reward your character(s) with good fate (but this will depend on your level of activity), or just push your character in a certain direction to make things more interesting.

• Follow IWAKU's rules at all time.

• Follow basic roleplaying rules.

Brief History: In college, Joana Van Ark met and married Eric Townsend. In the beginning they had a happy marriage, and she was thrilled to have found a nice guy who shared her love of art and life ambitions. One year into their marriage Joana gave birth to twins, Bo and Page. She decided to postponed her studies -- so that she could devote herself to motherhood -- until her children were of school age.

Eric continued toward finishing his degree. After graduation Eric felt stuck doing public relations in Connecticut, and blasted out his resume to agencies around the world, and landed a job in Beijing. Joana disliked the idea of leaving America for a foreign country. The compromised, Eric would travel back and forth as much as he could. After a while, the marriage started to sour. Eric traveled less and less to the US. And Joana couldn't forgive him for missing birthdays, anniversaries and family gatherings. She wanted a divorce, but Eric refused and convinced Joana to stay together for the children's sake.

When the children started elementary school, Joana begun to feel lonely, abandoned, and to get out of her own blue funk she went back to college to complete a degree in art history. She made the acquaintance of Mitchell Chadwick, and the two begun to socialize outside of school, visiting art galleries and the occasional outing with mutual friends, and both realized they were very attracted to one another. Joana tried to hide the feelings she felt, but she and Mitchell begun a steamy affair. It was reckless, yet exciting. Smitten with her new love she asked, once again, for a divorce. When Eric refused she confessed the affair, that she was in love with another man. Eric decided to return to the states and again used the excuse of keeping the family together for their children's sake.

Joana continued the affair even after Eric return to the states, but Mitchell couldn't stand that Eric was back and in her bed. He gave her an ultimatum, but Joana couldn't leave her children, and so Mitchell broke it off and moved away. Joana was heart broken. Eric felt that he had endured the worst and saved his marriage, and for a while he rekindled the spark that brought them together. But deep down Joana knew that it was over between them. Joana finished her degree in art history. The relationship with her children became estrange, she was dedicated to her job, and failed to be there for her children's turbulent teenage challenges. She relied on Eric to manage the children now, and only stepped in to fix things when things were at their worst.

She worked hard and it finally paid. She was a successful Art Dealer when her children graduated from high school, but her marriage was dead. 18 years she stayed with Eric and finally, a week after the kid's graduation, she got herself a lawyer and divorced him. After the divorce she felt a freedom she had not had in a long time. She purchased an apartment in Park Avenue, with a fantastic view of the Central Park. And has plans to open her very own gallery.

Brief History: Bo was very close to his father, especially during high school years, when he struggled with his sexual identity. His mother was rarely around, she was too busy socializing with the artsy, upper nose crowd of Connecticut. His father was the only one around. And it was his father who found him and his buddy having sex in the pool house. Surprisingly his father accepted him, unlike his mother who beat him hysterically when she found out. Bo has never forgiven her for it, and the relationship between them has suffered since then.

After graduation Bo moved to NYC, Lower Manhattan, where he is a freshman at the University. He was happy to be out of the house and on his own. When his parent's divorced he wasn't surprised, and frankly he didn't really care. His focus is now his own life and he plans to live it free of family drama.

Bo is a health nut, being fit and active and his passion for all things fitness, landed him a job as a personal trainer at the local Health & Fitness Center. A job he literally enjoys. He shares a two bedroom apartment with a fellow college student, who spends more time hosting parties, drinking and bedding girls than attending class. Bo isn't too happy with the situation and is starting to hate going home and dealing with his half-baked roommate. He is considering finding a new place to live.

He is not happy that his mother decided to make the City her home too. She bought an apartment on Park Avenue and she offered him one of the bedrooms. He is tempted, but the last thing Bo wants is to move in with the very person he wanted to get away from. Nevertheless, he agree to help her move and show her around. He is trying to keep the pass behind and start fresh, and maybe the estranged relationship between them can be improve. But it will take time.

Brief History: Sweet, kind, loving, friendly, funny, pretty, these are just some adjectives to describe Page Townsend. That is before she changed. At the age of 16, she fell in love with a young man; she got pregnant, and was forced to have an abortion by her mother. The two kept the abortion quiet and to this day nobody else knows about it. She was soon after shipped to a boarding school for girls in England.

Page did a bit of traveling in Europe with the richy friends she made in boarding school. Her mother encouraged it. But ever since the abortion Page has been dealing with abortion grief and became unstable. Hiding the guilt of killing her baby she picked up a drug habit, eventually having to pawned jewelry to maintain it, and when that didn't work stealing from her friends. One day she was caught and went to court, but was given a second chance when she agreed to attend a rehab center. She got herself together in rehab and return to Connecticut.

But no matter how much she tries to hide it she despises her parents. She blames Joana for ruining her life, for forcing her to break up with the boy she loved, and for killing her baby. She hates her father for not being there, for never caring and not stopping Joanna from sending her to boarding school. When her parent's announced their divorce Page left the house and boarded a plane to Paris. She has been incommunicado since.

For the last six months she's lived a wild life. Her addiction has gotten her in financial debt with some very dangerous individuals. She has needed to resort to doing things she never though she'd do in order to pay her debt. She is traveling to NYC soon, not because she wants to, but because she fears for her life. She has a plan to escape her creditors, but isn't sure yet how to execute the plan. [/hr][/hr]

His older brother, Gardiner, made his life a living hell. Along with the typical teenage violence, Gardiner had undiagnosed bipolar disorder topped with anger issues, and since Hadrian kept to himself with a bashful grin, he was an easy target. He was dangerously unstable, and was arrested so many times the family constantly danced above bankruptcy. The two Dynan parents, however, were impartial enough towards Hadrian and scared enough of Gardiner, that they refused to do anything with him. The only thing that kept him around was his youngest brother, Price. Price was simultaneously his best friend and greatest protector, throwing himself in between Hadrian and Gardiner during the dirtiest of fights, knowing Gardiner wouldn't hurt the baby of the family. To this day, the two are still close.

Somehow, though, Hadrian still loves his parents, and their discretion of him going to Florida to become a graphic designer caused him to dump a good scholarship and get a bachelor's degree in Business Analysis at a community college, all because his parents wanted a caretaker in their steadily gaining age.

At 26, Hadrian met the most glorious woman he had ever met- Hester, with her cropped blonde hair and dancing blue eyes, was everything he had asked for, and more. When she said she had gotten pregnant six months later, he had never been happier- starting a family with the most beautiful thing put on earth. And all was well for three weeks after Seneca's birth. Until one morning he had woken up, bed cold, note on the table with the short explanation she couldn't deal with settling down yet.

Suddenly, Hadrian was a single dad.

Apart from the broken heart, it wasn't as bad as expected. Seneca was a happy, easy baby, and it helped that Price moved in for a year and a half to help around, and was practically a second dad to Seneca.

But Price needed to live his own life, and that's what he did.

The constant babble of two year old Seneca couldn't quench the loneliness of the home- first Hester, now Price, even through the constant barrage of texts sent from his youngest brother.

On a rash decision, Hadrian begins to foster, a squishy baby girl with the widest amber eyes he had ever seen; her parents had been Spanish immigrants, one passed away in a work accident, and another too poor to take care of her. Hadrian practically turned to goo, and was an immediate foster fail. Little Cornelia became a Dynan and Seneca got a little sister.

He spent his teenage years thumbing through newspapers, and then doing his own research and rewriting them, furious at the idea of bias. The last straw for Hadrian was just a few weeks ago- Seneca snuck out in the middle of the night to set up an early morning protest, and refused to answer his phone during the entire ordeal. Seneca was kicked out, furiously moving into the dorms. Even still, though, the two's bright souls and actions have been dimmed since the lack of each other, and refuse to reach out because of pride.

It was rattling, honestly. And now, her brother's getting foolish, getting himself arrested every other week and forcing their father to bail them out- Cornelia can only hold her books to her chest and pray, pray with all her heart, because the Dynan family is well-off, but not that well-off, not after Dad got laid-off and can't borrow money from Aunt Shirley anymore? Since he's getting ominous notes from who seems to be Uncle Gardiner?

Why doesn't Seneca know? Because Cornelia knows she can't be the only person Dad tells, and more importantly, why doesn't he care?

Seneca grew up extremely close to his father, the two more like best friends and brothers than father and son at times. Seneca had a mouth two times bigger than his own good, and was arrested many times as a teenager, but for different things than his uncle Gardiner- he was a social justice activist, organizing rallies and protests that sometimes went wrong, resulting in incarcerations. Hadrian didn't care, though; he was glad his son was making a difference. Wise beyond his years and highly intelligent (with the arrogance that comes with being self-aware), Seneca is currently attending NYU with a major in journalism and a minor in human rights.

Cornelia is the complete opposite- quiet as a mouth, tiptoeing around the house. Not that she isn't comfortable- oh, no, the eighteen year-old wouldn't be anywhere else, but she simply hates the sound of her own voice, for whatever reason, and she despises drawing attention to herself. She thumbs her way through classics, nose almost always in a book. She's majoring in creative writing and teaching French history to college age students at NYU as well.

There is no need to rush but I want to see backgrounds for each individual character. I don't see any family drama, I don't see any immediate goals for your characters. Remember you have to set up your own plots.

Brief History:
Hugo Mayfair was born Hugo Kaczka. The only son of two hard working, very religious Polish immigrants, it isn't excessively difficult to see why he battled with his sexuality for the first twenty years of his life. With no money for college Hugo pursued his talents, namely fighting. Taking to the ring like a fish took to water, within a few years he was a champion in New York. Even as he was making money, however, it soon became evident to him that his parents were too old to continue working despite their protests. To earn extra money and again, playing off his talents, Hugo began donating to a local sperm bank. Oddly enough, it was there he met his soul mate, Jean Cane Mayfair, a flamboyant local artist who came from money, made money, and half way through his twenties had more than he knew what to do with. Hugo found his heart pounding as he approached the other man, figuring he was way out of his league and he was there with a woman no doubt! However, as Hugo spoke with him, he realized the woman was a surrogate for Jean Cane's own child, and the two had been shopping for a different father for the next one.

From there, love blossomed. Though his parents weren't exactly supportive, they quickly grew to love Jean Cane and his eccentric French mannerisms and fat checkbook. Hugo fought well into his thirties, but quit at Jean Cane's request and managed to scrape through school to earn a History degree. Since then, he's worked for the New York Historical Preservation Society and very much enjoys his job. He loves all three of their children and worked hard to instill a work ethic in them despite their lavish upbringing. They lived a wonderful life.

With Jean Cane's recent diagnosis, however, things have become strained in the Mayfair household. Hugo finds himself his husband's caretaker on top of managing Chanel's life and still trying to keep Audrey and Laurent involved while keeping the illness from them. The stress has driven Hugo out into the city nightlife when he has the chance, drinking and partying and using their money less than wisely at times. On top of that, with Jean Cane so ill their intimacy has been less and less. Hugo loves Jean with all his heart, but as a robust man, he's finding it harder and harder not to find himself in someone else's bed. He's received plenty of offers, but none tempting enough to give in. He hopes, and prays, that Jean Cane recovers quickly lest he make the biggest mistake of his life by cheating on the man he loves.

Brief History:
The saga of Jean Cane Mayfair is one for the books, literally. Born in France to fabulously wealthy parents, his mother a retired supermodel and his father a banker, he was raised in the lap of luxury. Most men like him waste their lives spending their parents' money, but Jean Cane's mother would have no such thing. Seeing his talent from a young age when he drew her likeness in crayon better than her portrait artist, she kept her son under the best tutelage available. By the time he was twelve, he was a confirmed prodigy. His talent was put to good use as he made his way through life selling piece after piece. His eccentric ways and charming humor made him a star in Paris, then in New York. As he neared his mid twenties, he settled down a bit from the lavish gay scene New York offered, bought himself a gallery to host his own and other artists' work, and found a lovely surrogate to bear him a child of his own genes. While she was pregnant for little Audrey, the two went sperm shopping at a local bank for the next child.

As it goes, he met Hugo and soon they were in love, Hugo's seed being perfect for the second child. The two built a life together with their children, Audrey, fair and blonde and so Jean Cane's child, and Laurent, dark and moody and beautiful as Hugo. To celebrate Hugo's retirement, the two decided to adopt another child from Korea. Thus came porcelain little Chanel.

Everything was fine, everything was perfect, until Jean Cane noticed a blurring his left eye one day at the gallery. Within a few minutes, he'd fainted in front of a whole room of customers. From there, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of ocular cancer. As an artist, the news was devastating. If he lost his vision, how could he ever hope to paint? Since his diagnosis Jean Cane has been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, alternatively and sometimes together, to try to save his eyes. He's demanded Hugo keep his condition a secret from their children, so Laurent and Audry know nothing of it. Little Chanel, of course, knows she spends a lot of time with Hugo and a sitter, and figures her other father is sick but is otherwise ignorant. With so many secrets, Jean Cane can feel his close family slipping through his fingers but he would rather suffer in silence then have them worry about him. As he undergoes treatment he finds his fuse is short when it comes to his beloved and he behaves very cruelly at times in emotional frustration. Watching Hugo carry it alone is painful but Jean Cane hopes this will all be over soon.

Growing up is hard enough. Growing up as a perfectionist, harder still. Growing up with two loving, perfect gay parents who are still talked poorly of because of their sexuality is the icing on the cake. From her childhood Audrey felt immense pressure to do her very best, to prove she was perfect so no one could question her parents. She excelled in at her expensive private school, was class president and a cheerleader and passed at the top of her class. Never having time for a boyfriend between participating in every available extra curricular activity and generally working herself to death, moving out and attending college on her own was quite the shock. For once her intelligence was valued and even pursued by the boys around her. A path of promiscuity and sexual freedom opened for Audrey as she continued to excel in her studies. She hasn't found a man she feels she can actually be with, and as her graduation approaches she's afraid her promiscuity will quickly become a negative trait. Working in a law firm surrounded by older, accomplished men seems to be the solution. With any luck, she can find herself the wife of an accomplished lawyer. She adores her family and finds her fathers' distance strange. She also somewhat struggles with attempting to push Laurent to be more like her, but he clearly resists putting a strain between them.

Brief History:
Laurent could not be more different from his sister. Despite being the spitting image of Hugo, his biological father, he seems to be a perfect mix between his parents. Hugo's stoicism and unshakable will, and Jean Cane's artistic flair. The boy's one true love is music. Through school and life and he did well, generally a good student with a penchant for ignoring authority, he focused on what he wanted to study, music, and flourished under the tutors Jean Cane provided. He had several boyfriends and a girlfriend throughout high school, but since graduating has mostly focused on his music. He's certainly interested in romance, but puts his music first. Dealing with his sister's controlling tendencies and the weirdness going on with his fathers is stressful enough on top of the temptations to give into pressure to party as most young, thus far successful musicians would.

Brief History: Sean was born and raised in a small town in Pennsylvania. He was very gifted at running cross-country which got him a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh wher he majored in Pre-Law. Sean always believed in doing what he could to help others, and was determined to be the kind of Lawyer who would restore dignity and honor to the legal profession. Not be one of those glorifed ambulance chasers.

Since he grew up in a household that was, to be kind, working class Sean qualified for grants and scholarships so that he could attend the Law School at the Uninversity of Pittsburgh. Sean graduated from Law School with honors, but going back home to be a small town lawyer just didn't suit him. He got a taste of the city life in Pittsburgh and decided it was time to see what life was like outside of the Pennsylvania state line.

Sean moved to New York and he struggled to make ends meet in a one room one bath apartment. He worked full time as a bartender and on weekends as a law library research assistant for the prestigous Law firm of Hart & Alexander. It was grunt work but at least Sean was working in the legal field, and then one day changed everything forever for Sean.

It was late one night while Sean was conducting research for Peter Hart who was representing Charles "Big C" Sacrdino. A gentleman who ran an import/export business, but was also "allegedly" one of the biggest crim bosses in the state. Hart was in a legal dog fight and was going down fast. Sean overheard the legal strategy and realized hart was gonna lose badly, but because of the extensive research he conducted in the library Sean saw a way to win on a technicality that hadn't been used in decades.

The next morning as Peter was about to strike a deal with the Feds. Sean burst into the court room with his legal brief citing the technicality. Inspite of all the evidence the Judge had no choice but to dismiss the case. That afternoon Charlie visited Sean and talked with him. Charlie took an instant liking to Sean. He fired the Law Firm and set up Sean in a swanky Park Avenue Law Firm. With Charlie's connections in no time Sean was the go to Lawyer for people with "extremely difficult" legal issues. Charlie also used his connections within the Show Business community to establish Sean as an expert contract negotiator for his friends. Sean is not a lawyer for Charlie but an extremely shrewd advisor for his business, and is "alleged" business, as well. (How he met his wife Diana will explained in her brief history)

Brief History: Diana was born and raised New York City to Charles and Annette Scardino. She has four older brothers, but be there no question or doubt Diana is the princess in her family and the apple of her father's eye. Her parents always made sure that their daughter was never in want for anything. While the other kids were playing with toys and other childish interests Diana was interested in art and creating models from a very young age.

Diana displayed a gift for creating models early on. Whether it was using the hedge-clippers to create displays with the bushes, or taking recycling material and creating something Diana's creations were actually impressive. She was able to pick any College in the world and attended Syracuse University where she majored in Art.

Upon her graduation Charles offered to use his connections to help Diana, but while Diana appreciated the offer she wanted to make it on her own name. Her Father was so proud of his daughter and honored her wishes. It took some time but eventually Diana's talent was recognized with her own art show, and to celebrate her show Charlie threw a huge party at his country estate.

In attendence at the party was Charlie's new lawyer Sean McPherson. The attraction was almost instant and rather than be upset Charlie was very happy to see this. Mainly because up until then Diana was driven solely by her career, but now there was someone in her life. It was the man who saved Charlie from being sent to Rikers, and was fine tuning his business as well.

While the relationship was celebrated by Charlie and his family Sean and Diana did everything they could to keep the relationship as private as possible. Then two years after meeting they finally got married and are living in what once was Charlie's Penthouse apartment. They have been married for the last three years.

Barry became friends with not the best of people...he was around drugs, sex, and other illegal things. Barry didn't learn his lesson until he was arrested for possession of Marijuana. His father, a judge at the time made sure he didn't go to jail. After that day, Barry's father kicked him out the house. He would either find his way or become broke and homeless.
Barry was allowed to come back to the Westwood Estate when he turned 15. Barry was on the streets for three years, from 12 to 15. From then on Barry never hung around those friends again. He went to High School in Texas, where he met his Future Wife. They were and still are High School Sweethearts. She was a Sneaker Heiress, her father owned a line of high end shoes and stores. Barry didn't think she would take him serious, but he won her over. He had dreams to become the biggest Music Producer in the world, signing the hottest new acts and making Westwood a name known all over the world.
Barry and his Fiancee at the time moved to New York, where he could work on his career and so could she. They ended up having 4 wonderful kids, 2 girls and 2 boys. Barry loves his kids, they want to become big named singers, rappers and even actors, but he will not just give them a pass to his Record Label. They will have to work for it, just like everyone. So far the only one that has proven to show potential is his oldest daughter. Barry has a strained relationship with his youngest son...he didn't and still doesn't accept his son's lifestyle. When the family was asked to star in their own Reality TV Show called "The Westwoods:Music&Family", Barry refused. It was his wife, that persuaded him into doing the show. He still doesn't like the idea, but a Happy Wife a Happy Life.

Kariono didn't have anything on him so he was let go. His father doesn't think Kariono is ready for the Entertainment world, but Kariono thinks he is.
He uses his famous name to get into parties and into girls' pants, he is a playboy. He has a different girl in his bed every night. So far he hasn't caught anything or has any kids...that luck might run out soon. Kariono might never learn to grow up and start acting responsible, that's one thing that everyone worries about him. Other then that, Kariono is a great guy. He takes care of his younger siblings when his parents can't. He can show some responsibility, he just doesn't like to.
Kariono couldn't believe that the whole family was about to star in their own TV Show. He couldn't wait for everyone to see him going around getting girls and living the life. He wants to be known as the Infamous Playboy of The Westwood Family. If his father won't sign him, maybe some big time producer will see Kariono or "O NO" on TV and want to sign him.

She has the skills and the team, she just needs the fans and the spotlight. In steps the TV show. Narayah was the one to get the call about the show, she was super excited to do the show...she was glad that her mother got her father on board. This is the way Narayah will get the fans and the stardom to become a big hit in the world.
While the show follows the family, Narayah will be working on her debut album:"Narayah:Princess Of R&B". She's planning on releasing it after the First Season wraps up. If it wasn't for his mother fighting his father off of him, Camryne would have probably died or gotten brain damage. Camryne hasn't and will probably not ever forgive his father for what he did to him, the only reason he's still around is for his mother and his siblings.
