Ah. He killed her.

Before Lento realized the man's true intentions, the red-haired man had already slit one of the slave's throat, tossing her dead body onto the ground.

For a moment there, all Lento could see was red, a dark red spilling onto the wooden floor as the inn's patrons rushed out, leaving this madman to scream and shout by himself.

What was the point of all this?

And why was it that Lento could still feel his smile carved onto his face, a false mask hiding his true expressions.

As Rina and Ron arrived at the scene, brandishing their great weapons, the blond-haired archer did the same. In one smooth movement, he flipped out his short bow, drew an arrow, and fired at the man's leg.

Lento's arrow hits the raging alchemist knee, reducing his combat abilities a little.

"But why, why do that!" Aivery yelled.

He wanted to go over and try to help, but he was fairly certain the one with a slit neck was dead. Still, maybe the other two could still be saved? Yes, maybe he could use his magic to try to purify them of the drug! But first, the alchemist was going to have to go.

A seething anger was welling inside of him. He was only irritated by the man before. Now? It's something much more virulent. He took out his book and started to create distance from the alchemist.

A fair distance away now, he shot a precision beam at the alchemist.

One strike landed on his knee. That was good. Taking a few steps back, standing beside the magical priest-halfling, Lento drew another arrow out, aimed, and fired at the alchemist's other leg. There was no need to kill him, not when this alchemist could still be of use.

After all, someone needed to be bait for the Insect King.

The alchemist tries to defend himself with a blue wall of energy, absorbing Aivery's attack. Then he proceeds to throw a bomb at Aivery and Lento. The explosion is nice and green, reaching both boy's clothes and eating them a little; no serious burns.

Lento clicked his tongue in annoyance as Aivery's magical spell was absorbed. What sort of alchemist learned magic? Weren't they only supposed to be potion-making dweebs? Nevertheless, this magical alchemist threw a bomb at them next, and a green explosion knocked him off his feet, sending him tumbling into another table.

Rubbing his bumped head ruefully, Lento did his best to smother the green flames that licked at his clothing. He rolled behind the table he had toppled over, drew another arrow, aimed, and fired, this time at the alchemist bastard's right arm.

"Aivery, spread out!"

What did that alchemist just do? Since when did they use magic? Nevertheless, it shocked him long enough to not notice the potion liquid land on him. The liquid got all over Aivery's clothes. Once again, his wardrobe began to diminish before his very eyes. It also his his skin as well, causing him into a small panic of running around in circles in an open part of the room. He was like a chicken with its head cut off.

"Waaah! My skin's on fire, on fire!"

His magic started to spazz out as well, a few shots flying from his finger tips. One of them happened to fire towards the alchemist's way.

Aivery's magic flew to the alchemist, but as wild it was fired it changed direction and hit the other human slave right at her chest, cutting her skin and making blood flow.

Lento fired an arrow straight at the alchemist, but his blue shield deflected the wood and broke the arrow.

"Damn, look out the fire!" Ron screamed at the pair. As both look back they notice the green fire eating some drunkards and clients clothes and metal weapons, but avoiding their flesh and wood.

"HAHAHA! NOW MY FIRE WILL EAT YOU ALL!!" The alchemist laughed, preparing another bottle, a blue one, and throwing it at Lento.

"Tch." This alchemist bastard's shield was just too strong for his arrows to handle, and Aivery's overall panic wasn't helping either. It seemed as if the fates themselves were conspiring against him today, and the final touch to this terrible situation was when Ron yelled at him. Turning back, Lento saw that the green flames were spreading, the remaining patrons of the bar panicking as their clothing were lit ablaze. It was a familiar scene, but it was a scene that was terrible at the same time.

But familiar? Wh-

So wrapped in his own thoughts, Lento didn't even notice that the alchemist had tossed another bottle in his direction.

A fiery explosion, now painted in a reddish hue of death! As Lento see the bottle coming near, that man makes a sudden move... and the bottle explodes. The fire spread fast and consumed his arms and face, eating his hair and nails... ONLY his hair and nails! Ew!

Rina was silent, focusing on the alchemist with a bland stance. Her sword had a strange white glow that increased with every second; she was out of the tavern, away from the flames. In a blink, she run and jumped the flames, aimed at the alchemist and attacked... Her blade made a white cut in the air, missing the alchemist completely.

BOOM.

Lento flew further this time, the flames engulfing his torso with what felt like skin-melting agony. Slamming into the back of the tavern, he couldn't help but scream as he rolling about, tossing off his cloak and smothering his hair with it. But everything he touched hurt his blazing hands and his bow laid on the ground, similarly on fire.

Essentially, he should have grinded a few levels first.

After calming down for his small panic, Aivery saw the bottle fly towards Lento. "No!" Afraid to see what would happen, he looked away and kept his eyes focused on the alchemist. He heard screams, which only made him think it was worse than the actual case. Tunnel visioned on the man, he fired another beam at the alchemist.

"A BEAM! OR IS IT A BEAN!?" With a quick move to his right, the alchemist avoided the beam that destroyed part of the wooden wall right behind his target. A big hole, enough for an adult to fit and flee...

Without a second thought, Rina launches a new attack at the alchemist's face only to that blue wall deflect it again; she is angry but focused. "Oi, you retard! Throw that black bomb at me!" The girl pointed to a completely black bottle at the alchemist's belt, its other two companions were already throw at Aivery and Lento. "You can't hit even a little girl, huh?! Retard!"

Ron, however, was holding back Wrench: she was in total shock from that scene. Empty eyes, paralyzed muscles, a sad expression... If a flame caught her, she would die for sure. "Fend him off, guys! Show us what you can do!" Ron screams at Lento and Aivery.

Through the pain, through the agony, Lento could see it. The man only had one more bomb left, and Aivery's beam had blasted a hole through the inn. If something wasn't done now, the alchemist would throw his final bomb, and then retreat. Crawling onto his knees, he grit his teeth to endure the pain of his burned hands as he drew out his knife, a hybrid between a dueling knife and a throwing knife. Chances are, he would miss, but chances are, Lento didn't care.

He was going to get his revenge for this, no matter how much shit he had to crawl through.

And, with that, he threw his knife at the sniggering bastard.

Aivery heard Ron's words of encouragement. With Rina now trying to goad the enemy to attacking her, as a halfling he had to do something! That black bottle seemed pretty scary, with what the other bottles were doing to everyone else. He fired another beam at the alchemist.

"Hows this for a bean-I mean beam, you evil human!" He yelled.

Lento's valiant dagger cut the air in high speed but crashed at the alchemist's blue shield, exactly like Aivery's beam of light. Rina used this opportunity to increase her distance from her target, whose same alchemist tries to scream at the party and fit into the hole.

However, he didn't see to fit too well, and he didn't noticed Lento's dagger was stuck at his barrier. With a gutural mumble he dispells the field and is stabbed at his right kidney by Lento's falling dagger; now he was completely stuck on the wall.

It hit. Hah. It fucking hit! The exhausted, singed archer felt like he had sacrificed a lot to get that lucky hit, but still...it hit!

Fatigued beyond belief, Lento hit the ground like a sack of bricks and slowly, his eyes closed.

Darkness consumed him.
