Replicants are bioengineered humans, designed by Tyrell Corporation for use off-world. Their enhanced strength made them ideal slave labor.

After a series of violent rebellions, their manufacture became prohibited and Tyrell corp went bankrupt.

The collapse of ecosystems in the 2020s led to the rise of the industrialist Niander Wallace, whose mastery of synthetic farming averted famine.

Wallace acquired the remains of Tyrell corp and created a new line of replicants who obey.

Many older model replicants - Nexus 8s with open-ended lifespans - survived. They are hunted down and 'retired'.

Those that hunt them still go by the name... Blade Runner

    Welcome to '2037'!

This is going to be an alternate Blade Runner universe roleplay set in the year 2037. This is going to be a time of high tensions in the city. For those that aren't in tune to the series- It's a mid-1980's retrofuturistic sci-fi/cyberpunk set into the future [from that time].

I'm hoping to make this as easy as possible for people to jump in- knowledge of either Blade Runner movie is not a 'must', but it can help. I'm certainly no expert, myself- but I do know a fair bit. Feel free to ask any questions that you don't think google could answer for you!

I'm looking for a small handful of dedicated players who don't mind a fluid pace. I tend to be very active some times- being able to post a few times a day, to being relegated to posting once a week max. If i can find a co-gm, this won't be as much of an issue.

I prefer intermediate posting level at minimum.

Character sheets will be set up depending on interest garnered.

Canon characters are an absolute no-go.

The current year is 2037. Nexus 9 replicants have begun to be produced, and are Earth legal considering these were supposed to solve the problems that the previous models caused. Nexus 8’s still live in fear of retirement, and are systematically hunted down. They have it better than the past decade due to the blackout in 2022 causing the lack of a database with their names all over it... But are still easily identified by their serial number readable on the underside of their right eye.

Wallace corp is still toting supremacy in corporate LA- a downtrodden city hanging by a thread- while advertisements run rampant for human migration to off-world colonies.

There is still plenty of hate for the replicants (see:skin jobs) on the planet. Human supremacy riots crop up from time to time, but since the database of all registered Nexus 8 replicants was lost in the blackout of 2022, most cries of sightings are speculation at best. Blade runners are still out there, but more specialized due to the lack of the voight-kompff testing reliability with the newer models.

    work in progress.

1.)Possible Sandbox with a few large issues at hand for everyone to interact with?

2.) group quest: The characters will be tasked with investigating rumors of an upcoming attack on a Wallace Corp. warehouse located toward the outskirts of the city. The report isn't clear if it's an anti-replicant hate group, renegade replicants, or just people looking to get free food. I've got a string of ideas that will progress the story. .. . . . Currently up in the air if I want the characters to be Blade Runners or not.

  • Just a dump of terms used that may not be 100% transparent.

Blade Runner: Department of the police who are basically bounty hunters and detectives wrapped into one. They hunt down and 'retire' (see: kill) illegal replicants. They can't operate outside the law, although they often go to great lengths to bend the law. Most people can turn an eye because most people also hate the replicants. Though collateral damage and the like are generally dealt with harshly.

    Blaster: Gun

    Cityspeak:
Mashup language that is commonly used on the streets. 'Gutter talk', a mishmash of Japanese, Spanish, German, Korean, what have you. Every good cop knows it. Most civilians do, too.

    Ground Car: normal street cars.

Replicant: artificial human created by Tyrell Corp (nexus 8 model) or Wallace Corp (nexus 9 model). They are flesh and blood still... but- different. Created with false memories and backstories to make them seem more 'human'. Manufactured mostly for labor off-world, and any N8's are illegal on earth. Most humans hate them- and call them 'Skinners', 'Skin jobs', or the like.

Spinner: Basically a flying car. Can drive and fly.

Voight- Kompff machine: outdated machine that helped Blade Runners tell if their detainees were replicants, or human during an interrogation.

Awesome! Thanks all for putting interest here.

Are you all familiar-ish with the universe already? Or no?

Since i'm finalizing the building phase of the rp, any preferences or things you'd like to see as far as plotlines or story? Or would you rather just jump into the world and 'go'? (if not that's fine. i've got some ideas cookin'. xD )

I've seen both films and the shorts and I'm generally familiar with cyberpunk tropes and Philip K Dick/ William Gibson aesthetics but I'm not a lorehound about any of it.

No real suggestions on my end, I'm just interested to inhabit that world.

I have seen neither movie, but I've a general concept of the plot. Also, I know enough about cyberpunk to wing it, I believe.

I believe my ignorance of the film will actually make any discovery in-character more exciting.

I've got this stuff down, no worries here.

Sure thing.

Far as cyber punk goes, it's pretty low tech for the most part, Rose: Flying cars, replicant humans (flesh and blood- but not 'human'), giant hologram advertisements, sure. Space travel, yeah. But the rest is kinda 80s retrofuture. I think it'll be pretty easy to get the tone for everyone though, experienced in the flicks or not.

So, yeah. I'll be working on finalizing plot points, which will lead to character sheets going up soon.

Thinking either everyone will be humans or replicant n9's working together for the police department in some manner (beat cop, blade runners, investigators, response teams) looking into the rumors of an attack on a supply warehouse (that will lead down a rabbit hole).... Or as sympathetic humans/ replicants working with an underground railroad of sorts- if less sandboxy...

or everyone happens to live in the same apartment building - if sandboxy. XD

Setting up a discord if any are interested. If not, feel free to as k questions here or pm me!

Also waiting a day or so for maybe another player.

More to come. :D

Come to think of it, creating a group of replicants working with the police would be kind of fun.

Think i've made some decisions. Sorry for any delays.
@AtomicItalian @Dipper @Rosé Moon

Is everyone okay with the idea of working together with the LAPD? At least, for one 'set' of characters? What I may do, is open the roleplay up as a bit of a sandbox, but have at least one 'set' of characters pursuing a specific storyline. That is, if anyone is slightly interested in piloting more than a single character.

My only stipulations is that i need at least one blade runner for the main campaign (hunting down leads of replicants). The others can be, as well- all working together since it's a big issue.....

Or you could be something like LAPD or private investigators. Maybe LAPD people who are more on the tech side with helping out the blade runner/s. Maybe even a 'Wallace Corp' security personnel looking after their assets- working hand in hand with the police department (but maybe wanting to keep gov't hands out of their business, because, hey, Wallace corp basically runs this city).

The story would start with your characters receiving word in whatever manner that there is rumor of an attack planned on one of the Wallace Corp warehouses toward the outskirts. There's only two in the outskirts, and one of them is small and insignificant, so you imagine it's definitely the larger one.

I'd be giving a bit of a layout of the city, too, and some possible leads. But I'd like to get your ideas for characters out first, before i give your characters 'leads' to follow up on.

Below is the basic character sheets.

If you plan on being a Replicant (a nexus 9)- Remember you will be inclined to be 100% loyal to your employer. If you are thinking you might want to create a previous model replicant- a Nexus 8- just be aware that you will really need to keep that under wraps, and you can not work for- or with- the LAPD, because those dudes are good at hunting them down.

If you have questions, please let me know- I'm more than happy to answer, or guide you to what you may want to accomplish.

Weaknesses: (ie: Alcohol addiction requiring a drink every couple hours. Severe limp. Act before thinking. Poor english speaker. No situational awareness. etc)

Brief Background: (doesn't need to be super long. Children without parents are thrown into orphanages that are basically sweatshop workhouses. Rich people tend to live in skyscraper suites. Poor people live in busted up old buildings as tenants. There is no 'land' to speak of to own. People who go off-world tend to never come back to Earth because it's basically a dump in comparison. Central city is more elaborate, the further out of downtown- the worse off the characters will be. Questions? Lemme know)
