During the onset of the Second World War, human experiments concocted in the early stages of the Third Reich yielded evolutionary results. Modification of the human genome and experimentation on DNA tampering produced what the Third Reich perceived as the next step in biological evolution: Der Ewige gewählt: the eternally chosen. The first stages of the Second World War were carried by this newfound discovery, or as some would put it, the ultimate crime against humanity. The first of this new breed of genetically modified "Übermensch" would serve in the elite, SS divisions of the German military as war broke out across the continent.

Storming across France and Russia, armies of the eternally chosen brought destruction and desolation to Europa. Faster, stronger and with other unnatural gifts, these genetically modified humans were capable of fighting for days without food or water, against forces vastly outnumbering their own. It seemed that German domination of the world was inevitable, the Allies incapable of stopping the genetically enhanced vanguard of the Blitzkrieg. When it seemed that German victory was all but secured, a new horror emerged from the Kremlin...

8gZZS4o.gif

The Russians were quick to learn an important lesson: to defeat a [glow=red]monster[/glow], one must become one.

Germany had not been the only country to implement horrific human experimentation. From the Kremlin emerged a horde of unspeakable horrors, creatures that bore even less resemblance to man than the genetically enhanced German soldiers. In a rush to face the unstoppable German army, the Soviet Union put forth the incomplete results of their own experimentation. Eight-foot-tall creatures that resembled that of the fantastical lycans of folklore tore through the German order of battle. Over the course of the war, the Soviet Union and the Germans would equally ramp up their human experimentation.

Though officially, the Allies had denounced the use of DNA manipulation, the Americans used data retrieved by defecting German scientists and information unwillingly provided by the Russians in their own Manhatten project. Soon, all major powers of the Second World War had their own variety of super-soldiers, with each nation participating in an arm's race to create the ultimate super soldiers. Soldiers who could read minds, see in the dark, become invisible and even teleport short distances became the heroes of the War. With all sides of the conflict pushing the limits of the human genome further and further.

giphy.gif

Eventually, the Allies emerged victorious. Yet, despite the end of the war, the genetic arms race intensified deep into the Cold War. The nations around the world began creating, training and indoctrinating their own armies of super soldiers without impunity and with little regard to the consequences of their actions in secret for future conflicts. In 2020, the nations of the world were overwhelmed by rising civil unrest, the people of the world clamoring for an official end to the genetic arms race. Dubbed the "NOAH" by English speaking nations, resentment and racism for these genetically modified human beings grew to boiling heights. In 2050, the United Nations officially outlawed the right for nations to possess Noah within their national militaries, with heavy restrictions imposed on genetic modification and DNA manipulation as a whole.

Of course, this would do little to solve the issue, as nations quickly discovered a loophole in the United Nations' language and thus began turning to government-funded "Private Military Corporations" to provide the super soldiers barred by the UN's Anti-Noah resolution. Furthermore, the use of PMCs allowed superpowers to engage in unadulterated "proxy wars", leading to a string of conflicts in the Middle East by private armies funded by foreign interest governments. It became clear that the United Nations Anti-Noah Resolution was simply not stringent enough... and in 2100, a new resolution was passed, barring any Noah from engaging in unsanctioned military conflict. With this resolution, an international military task force was formed:

Infinity: Mirage is a science-fiction, action-adventure roleplay set in the year 2105, where political tension and fear of the supernatural by the public is high. In this roleplay, you are a member of the International, United Nations Military Task Force "INFINITY", a team of supernatural beings sent to investigate and enforce Anti-NOAH laws and apprehend those that maliciously break them, with force if so required. Beware, many dangers lurk amongst man, the results of over 100 years of unregulated human experimentation. It is up to the team to dispose of them, by any means necessary.

The United Nation's Anti-NOAH Enforcement Agency, "INFINITY"

An international, law enforcement agency created and funded by the United Nations to enforce the UNs' 2100 Anti-NOAH Resolution #12. An agency comprised of almost exclusively NOAH, the Anti-NOAH Enforcement Agency controls and regulates modifications to the human genome and investigates breaches in the UN Anti-NOAH treaty. A multi-level organization with significant financial backing, INFINITY members are recruited from national governments around the world.

INFINITY is organized into color-coded, semi-autonomous sub-divisions:

  • Gold Division "Centurion" (Command/Support Staff)
  • Red Division "Gryphon" (Assault/Raid Division)
  • Blue Division "Mirage" (Investigation/Intelligence Bureau)

Most assets are supplied by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Though the Soviet Union, North Korea and China have signed the UN's Anti-NOAH resolution, physical support of the organization has been limited. Though separate divisions with different roles in the agency, the divisions work closely together to enforce the law. It is a new agency, but international pressure to regulate the NOAH and genetic arms race has forced nations to pour resources into this organization. As such, the Anti-NOAH enforcement agency is incredibly well-funded and capable of matching the strength of the strongest of Private Military Corporations.

UNIT HISTORY:

2100: United Nations' Anti-NOAH Resolution is passed, signed by 190 member countries. Article #12 of the Resolution calls for the establishment of an Anti-NOAH organization. INFINITY is formed later that year and resources and training begin to pour into the organization. They would not become officially active until the next year. Lieutenant-General Arthur Wellesley, formerly of the British Army, is nominated and selected as Commander for the organization.

2101: Red Division is deployed to the Middle East, engaging in Operation Talon against the Rogue Paramilitary organization "Black Steel," a mercenary NOAH group that operated out of the uninhabited regions of Afghanistan and Iran. One of the most deadly organizations at the time, their numbers were drastically reduced after a successful military campaign to expel their influence on the region. Eight hundred NOAH were killed between both sides of the conflict, numbers that had not been seen since the Vietnam War.

2102: Blue Division is formed as the intelligence and investigation wing of the agency. Normally, operatives from Blue Division are sent first to inspect and investigate. The NOAH assigned within this division tend to have abilities more suited to reconnaissance, allowing the agency to no longer rely on the intelligence bureaus of sovereign nations.

2103: The Soviet Union is attacked by a NOAH terrorist group, leaving two thousand civilian and military casualties. The Soviet Union begins to financially support INFINITY, adding a Russian unit to the organization. Despite signing the treaty, North Korea and China continue to refuse support for the organization.

2104 ➞ Present: Black Steel resumes military operations in the Middle East, coming into conflict with other Private Military Corporations in the region. Currently, over 20,000 Infinity Operatives are stationed in Africa and the Middle East as military deterrents.

Inside the Cockpit of a USAF Sikorsky, MH-2050 "Arikara"
The year is 2105, technology has undergone dramatic and significant changes. While the balance of power between nations is still decided by the access to NOAH possessing Private Military Corporations, advances in technology have only served to dramatically increase both their lethality and potential. One of the more notable technological achievements is the development of faster methods of transportation.

The current transport utilized by the United Nations' Anti-NOAH task force is the United States Air Force's Arikara, named after the tribe of Native Americans in North Dakota. Developed in 2050, the Arikara served as the main troop transport and assault craft of the USAF for nearly fifty years, until it was officially decomissioned by the US military in 2100. While currently being phased out, many countries, including INFINITY, continue to use it.

Capable of carrying a complement of 24 personnel, including a pilot, co-pilot and enough equipment for three days, the craft is capable of transporting INFINITY agents wherever they are needed. It is capable of supersonic flight, has vertical take-off and landing features and is both decently armored while also possessing light radar-defeating stealth capabilities. Equipped with a rotary 20mm autocannon fixed below its nose, it is also capable of destroying light targets.

A Soviet Mech pilot performing diagnostics to the arm of an Armored Frame
Armored Frames, sometimes called "ArFras," are mechanized combat machines similar to tanks. While these bipedal war machines are usually manned by one or two pilots, occasionally they are remote-controlled or automated. Faster and more versatile than tanks, while also being rapidly deployable from airborne troop transports such as the Arikara, armored frames have essentially rendered the main battle tanks of the world obsolete. While military nations have many armored frames in service in their militaries, INFINITY maintains only a handful in service, as an entire platoon of personnel are required to sufficiently maintain such units.

Still, it is not uncommon for INFINITY members to encounter such machines, as they are widely used by police forces of first world countries and occasionally, terrorists will retrofit civilian/construction models for combat. There are many different types of ArFras that exist throughout the world, with different levels of armament, movement and entirely different weapon systems that vary from machine to machine.

While small-arms technology hasn't changed much in over a hundred years, integration of improved satellite and UAV technology has given modern fighters new advantages over their predecessors. Aerial feeds provided by Arikara and other support craft integrate with soldiers' heads-up displays which allow soldiers to more quickly respond to and track enemy targets... even while inside buildings. Due to INFINITY's multi-national background, members are allowed to use whatever small-arms they desire, as each member may have been trained to operate a variety of different weapons platforms.

Recently, several more developed nations have begun development of exosuit systems. Starting as an attempt to bring down the size of ArFras into something more compact and more easily concealable, both America and the Soviet Union have begun to deploy these units in small quantities. Additionally, INFINITY maintains a few number of prototype units.

An exosuit is defined as a lighter variant of the ArFra that attaches directly to the wearer. Though smaller and much easier to field, an exosuit is incapable of taking nearly the same amount of punishment as an ArFra. The thin armored plates that encase the wearer are only capable of withstanding one or two hits from common, armor piercing rounds as delicate electronics must fill most of the space underneath the armor. Exosuits also require frequent maintenance, tuning and outside assistance putting on and taking off. One of the major issues with suits is sourcing power for the units. Power for a suit lasts for only a few hours before battery replacement must take place. If for whatever reason a suit loses power, the suit will freeze and the user will no longer be able to move. Exosuits, like ArFras, also generate larger heat signatures on thermal optics and can sometimes be spotted more easily on close-range radars.

Despite these issues, the exosuit is still seen as a major achievement in military and civilian technology and has many benefits to the wearer. First, the suit is vacuum sealed and temperature controlled, when completed with a helmet - the armor provides both full armor protection and protection from external elements. While not perfectly armored, it provides full protection across the entire body, where conventional body armor only protects areas commonly considered as vital. It provides significant protection from fragmentation and its limited power durations are addressed by easily replaceable external batteries, though outside assistance with this is required during combat operations. Modern exosuits also increase the wearer's mobility by taking pressure off of the human body and onto the suit itself, allowing them to carry heavier equipment and run for longer periods of time without fatigue. Some suits have been modified to carry an arsenal of special weapons, such as shoulder deployed rocket launchers or wrist-fired grappling hooks.

Exosuits increase a wearer's weight by approximately 400 pounds, something that must be considered when moving through areas not designed to take the weight of an exosuitted squad of soldiers.

The major powers of 2100.
Within the alternate timeline of INFINITY: MIRAGE, nuclear weapons do not exist. Instead, the power balance is dictated by the presence of NOAH, genetically modified human beings capable of impossible feats. Because of this alternate timeline, Japan did not unconditionally surrender during the end of the Second World War. Though they gave up all colonial territories, including Korea, the Japanese still maintain a strong army and strict warrior culture. The Allies during WW2 were much more willing to sign a peace-treaty not as strict with the Japanese to ensure Japanese resistance to communism in Asia. While Japan is noticeably hostile to all nations, their resistance to communism and closeness to China and the Soviet Union has pressured the communist nations from war.

Additionally, the Soviet Union does not face an economic... and therefore political collapse. Although a mutually assured destruction scenario does not occur, the Soviet Union and NATO forces never see an all-out war, instead relying on proxy wars based in the Middle-East and other countries such as Vietnam and Korea.

Seen as weapons of war, NOAHs are often shunned in public society. They are forced to face harsh, government control and are even banned from setting foot in certain countries. While many NOAHs understand their origins as weapons that could possibly cause mass destruction, there are also many NOAHs that see the laws imposed by society as persecution that if left unchecked, could become a genocide similar to the Holocaust. Some radical NOAHs have even begun to resist in different areas of the world, forming terrorist cells and armed militias across the globe.

KoLH30R.png

It is said that the fear of NOAHs was so great that in 2010, a mass migration of people across the world occurred to the Island of Rhodes, a Greek Island within the Mediterranean Sea. Promised to be a "NOAHFREE" country, the city cut all contact from the rest of the world in 2012. It was estimated that nearly 1 million people migrated to the island over the course of two years. Radio transmissions received by local ships in the Mediterranean have reported that the mysterious island nation refers itself as "VALHALLA", threatening any ship or aircraft that strays too close with a barrage of missile fire.

With the passage of the UN's first Anti-NOAH Resolution in 2050, barring any nation from possessing NOAHs within their armies, nations began to use various loopholes to exploit the UN resolutions. A sudden emergence of "Private Security" corporations began to spring up, allowing the nations to not only continue to keep NOAHs as soldiers but also use them in proxy conflicts with no political strings attached.

The first Anti-NOAH Resolution, while temporarily appeasing the public's concerns, only served to worsen the conflicts, giving NOAHs the ability to fight one another without any form of regulation or political consequences. Some of the most notorious Private Military groups emerged during this generation.

Private Security Corporations known for harboring NOAHs:

  • Norsecorp (Funded by: West Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway)
  • Echelon Security Solutions (The United States)
  • London Bridge Trading Company (The United Kingdom)
  • Hanwha Dynamics (South Korea)
  • Kerberos (Soviet Union)
  • Suidokashi Aviation Industries (Japan)
  • Black Steel (Origin Unknown)
In 2100, the new Anti-NOAH resolution was passed, officially barring NOAH from engaging in combat unless in explicit, self-defense situations. With formal backing by the majority of the world's governments, most of the former Private Security Corporations have been relegated to actual security and local police roles. The Private Military Corporation "Black Steel" still continues to operate as a renegade mercenary force, resisting the UN Anti-NOAH resolution.

This is a super interesting concept and RP! I love the level of care and dedication you put in, and it seems interesting. Since you guys are full, I would love to be considered on the waitlist for this if that is a thing! I assume the wait list kids can't drop into the discord to hang out. Either way, consider me interested and hopefully keep me in mind if you open up some spots!

You're free to drop into the discord. I just can't handle any more characters at the moment.

I shall pop into the discord then, and I totally understand the not handling more characters. If you do want one more or a spot opens later though, I would love to hop in!
